really well and people are commenting on

instagramming about it and all that

stuff

people's feeds and so people were coming

in last night saying what is this show

what is what is happening here and so we

had then we would have people answering

the question and so all this global

community right now is really cool so

help her and failed and he is wondering

why it failed and he's actually

questioning his own faith

and his own religion wondering if maybe

he's missing something and wondering why

it didn't work

wondering why she couldn't be healed and

in fact he actually said in episode 1

the only person the only one who could

have healed her was God himself

only God himself could have healed her

well now she's been healed is he gonna

find out about that and if he does

what's he gonna do and when he does

there's a scene between him and Mary

Magdalene that contains my favorite line

in the entire series I hope you'll know

afterwards we'll talk about it we'll

I really love the ending of that episode

for a couple reasons number one I love

that we show the different Shabbat

dinners and I'll talk about that with

our guests in just a moment but I love

that we show the contrast between all

these different Shabbat dinners and

which one does Jesus show up at probably

the one that people wouldn't have

expected but then we also wanted to give

an ending just at the very end that

teased you for the next episodes and

kept the story going and showed some of

the some of the challenges that I Simon

was facing and some of the decisions

that he was making that were actually

quite controversial and quite

potentially disastrous now it is said

from a friend of mine that he said in

most Jesus projects there's only three

disciples there's Simon Peter who's the

most famous one there's Judas because

he's the betrayer and everyone knows

that Judas is and then there's the other

ten disciples and the other ten

disciples all seem to have the same

personality they all look the same and

they're just kind of monolithic and it

was very important to us in this show to

make sure that each of the disciples had

their own distinct personalities it's

why we put Matthew on the Asperger's

syndrome it's why we have given you know

we've introduced you in Episode two here

to Thaddeus and little James and they've

got their own personalities and we've as

you'll see throughout the rest of the

season we have given each of the

disciples distinct personalities so that

it will feel more human and real now the

key to that is great actors and I want

to introduce you to Noah James who comes

who's going to join us right now who

plays the part of Andrew now one of the

things that that makes Noah so

interesting about the show is first of

all as you know him you know him as

Andrew and the brilliant performance

that he gives it as Andrew and how

because of his performance the role of

Andrew started to grow as the season

went on but what you may not know some

of you do is that Noah didn't actually

audition for Andrew and I actually never

heard him read for Andrew before I cast

him he read for Simon and he read for

Matthew two completely different

characters

and another secret that many people

don't know is that in the Shepherd which

is the pilot episode of this whole show

the Christmas short film about the birth

of Christ

Noah auditioned for the lead role in the

shepherd and I loved him and thought he

was brilliant but I went a different

direction and I said to myself I want to

work with that guy and so Noah

here we are it's been about three years

three and a half years since you

auditioned for the shepherd and so you

have auditioned every time for me right

exactly you've auditioned three times

for me and none of them worked you

didn't get any advice but you could you

could say that you're you're batting 250

basically you're 1 for 4 but landed on

the right yeah I think we landed on the

right roll what is it um you know you I

know you and I've talked about this

before but there's right now so many

people who are watching who haven't seen

any of our previous videos talk about

what about the role of Andrew actually

appealed to you even though you were

auditioning for other roles and doing a

good job but I think you've told me you

actually knew you weren't quite right

for those what is it about Andrew that

connects with you personally yeah you

know when I came in for the audition for

Simon well first of all you were like

Noah it's so good to see you but I had

never met you before that was just off

the tape from the shepherd so I thought

you thought I was someone else I like

didn't think I was belonging and what

you were telling me but that made the

connection huh

you have you have made the connection

from the shepherd you have not made the

connection so as I was auditioning for

Simon you I we actually had a little bit

of a conversation afterwards and I said

you know I think it would be kind of

hard to cast me as Simon I don't know

that that's really where I fit and you

were like yeah yeah I agree

and then um but I had I have thought

when I read through the script I loved

the script and I loved the shepherd I

just thought it was so moving and when I

read the first episode of The Chosen I

really connected to Andrew in the first

the fight scene in Episode one you know

the other brother like watching kind of

making the moves and coaching Simon from

the sidelines and I really loved the

kind of intellectual you know sensible

brother and then the brother kind of

quick to action and so I thought that

would be fun to to play and then when

you mentioned in my third time I think

coming in and and seeing you you

mentioned you were thinking about me for

Andrew and I was like let me stop right

there I think that would be great yeah

right then I had even said to you when

you first came in I although I we didn't

cast you in any of the roles you had to

audition for I said to you you're going

to be in this show so that had to be at

least feel somewhat good but I know on

the other hand you never know if people

are full of it in this business and so

it was at times where people have been

like get ready to book a ticket to New

York you know your gut and then like you

never hear and you're like I thought I

was supposed to book a ticket so for me

I did take that as oh that's obviously a

good thing to hear but I didn't quite

know until it was you know until I heard

officially and then I was ecstatic right

so um we don't talk typically about our

own personal connections to the stories

and whatnot but I but it hasn't been a

secret that you you are of Jewish origin

but that you weren't over overly

familiar with the New Testament when you

started this show has there been

anything in your research you know as an

actor you're typically going to do

research for your character and when

it's based on someone who really lived

and the story of Andrew there's not a

ton about him in the Gospels but there

is tons of historical information about

him has has reading about him helped you

and your in your preparation for the

scenes and for season 1 and what have

you found about Andrew that that has

been interesting or resonant for you so

I've spoken about this before but but

it's it's it's the best answer really to

this question which is

I'll try not to get emotional as I

talked about this uh it's when Andrew it

said there was a lot of differing

historical you know it's not quite known

the way Andrew died but what is sort of

commonly understood or said is that when

Andrew was martyred that he asked to not

they were going to crucify him on the

cross as Jesus was and Andrew asked he

didn't think himself worthy to be

crucified the same way that Jesus was

and so he asked for the cross to be put

on its side like that as an X which is

you see it now in Andrews like the flag

of st. Andrew or something you see that

the cross sometimes like that and that

was very moving to me and and it just it

struck a chord with especially in this

first the first four episodes you know

there's a lot of burden on Andrew on

Simon on most of the characters in the

show and there's this weight emotional

negative weight of how can I get through

it and I think we all may you know

connect to that at this present moment

and then not to spoil anything not to

give anything away there's a moment when

that burden is released in a very

powerful way and then Andrew shifts a

little bit and changes and becomes more

light of spirit more you know open and

and and fun in a way and and is able to

kind of live life without constantly

looking behind the shoulder and thinking

about the taxes and everything and and

that journey to me is just really

powerful and I wanted to bring as much

of myself as I could to to that to that

to the wrong that's a beautiful way of

putting it I don't actually think we've

discussed that explicitly you and I that

the notion of the burden being being

being lifted that's really beautiful

we've talked a lot about how Andrew

in the first couple episodes that we've

already seen is so loyal and committed

he loves his brother even though he he's

driving him crazy but he's so committed

to doing the right thing at all times

and so when Jesus comes along again

spoiler alert when Andrus meets Jesus

and coming up in Episode four he now

shifts his you know he's got something

else to pour his commitment into and as

we'll see episode 4 is into two nights

from now and then 5 6 7

you see andrew is the moment Jesus says

anything like hey why don't you go do

this Simon is always like I think I got

a better way Andrews like yep

whatever you say he is on it immediately

which is a really cool thing but but I

did want to ask a lot of people even

were commenting in the chat about how

much they loved your performance and how

you and Shahar work so well together you

and shard never met each other he's

actually originally he's actually from

Israel what's that been like just

working with Shahar as brothers even

though you didn't know each other how

did you find that chemistry quickly I am

so thankful that Shahar is my partner in

crime than this I'm so he's so gracious

of spirit he's so willing to play our

first day on set you know I remember we

were acting the scene well again not

spoil anything but one of the scenes

from episode 4 and you know in between

he'd come up to me and be like how is

this going am i you know giving you what

you needed or whatever and and we we

sort of developed this camaraderie that

most of our scenes are together and so

we would you know even the scene in

episode 1 I was telling my girlfriend

yesterday as we were watching that I

bump into to Lilith at the time and

Shahar and I would go back behind the

building and we'd be like okay how many

more takes and what are we betting and

then we'd like that is gonna be four

takes Fon takes chars I I think five on

my for 10 takes later we're like we both

lost enjoyed spending time together and

then as the scenes kind of grew and

we're with

learn more of the disciples we all the

connection that we have is just it's

really special and it's watching this

live stream again it's it makes me miss

everyone especially in this time when

you know I'm not leaving my apartment

you know we have a group chat together

and we we just love each other I mean

really we just all we just all love

working together and and finding out

about each other's lives and it's a it's

a special group

well we'll close with this I just want I

did this with Liz last night but I want

to give you this opportunity right now

in this time where we are all stuck in

our homes

we're in such a desperate need of

getting ready for bed making food

building a fire dressing a wound

stretching out his aches and pains from

a long day at work and then of course as

group of children come across him come

across him out in the middle of nowhere

where his campsite is and they don't

know who he is they don't know if he's a

criminal they don't know what his deal

is but they want to figure it out and

Jesus and in many ways we get a preview

of his ministry by seeing how he

interacts with these children it's a

very special episode if you or kids have

not watched episodes 1 & 2 they could

watch this episode and they don't have

to have seen the previous two episodes

for it to make sense but this is a note

night I am in tears writing this the

Chosin has helped our 12 year old

adopted daughter understand Jesus you

know I'm an adopted son myself and I

wasn't expecting the show to appeal to

younger kids and I didn't expect that

her 12 year old adopted daughter

understand Jesus in a way nothing else

has she lived in an orphanage for three

years taking care of her younger sister

who we also adopted in a country that

doesn't value children with special

needs since joining our family at six

she has struggled with attachment so

afraid that she isn't good enough for us

to keep her my son had the same

struggles in his first couple years of

this a common thing with children who

have suffered from trauma abuse and

neglect children from hard places often

have lost multiple

caregivers and struggle accepting love

and understanding that God loves them

the other night at bedtime our daughter

said to me jesus loves me so much and he

will always love me and she told me how

much she loves Jesus and how she can't

wait to meet him someday she has gone to

church we've read her Bible to her we

talked so much about God and his love

for her but nothing has had the impact

for a twelve-year-old like the chosen

has she has seen Jesus in a way that

relates to her in a deep way we are so

thankful for this series and so grateful

that our daughter is understanding in a

much deeper way who Jesus is and how big

his love is for her a precious girl who

felt so unloved finally knows deep

within that she is loved thank you to

all involved with the chosen that's from

Amy you helped make that happen episode

3 the season that you're watching now
