John Dudley the first Jew
Cumberland was born in 1504 there

unclear John Dudley's father was Edmund
Dudley who had been a counselor to King
Henry the seventh Edmund Dudley would be

in 1510 when John was only six years old
his mother was Elizabeth gray and
together they had four children three
sons John and rude and Jerome and a
daughter Elizabeth after the death of
her husband she was fortunate enough to
remarry and her second husband was a

befitting his station he would have been
taught to read and write mathematics and
Sciences would have been part of his
lessons as well as horsemanship and
swordsmanship at the age of 15 years
John Dudley traveled with his guardian
sir Guilford to the parlor of cali where
he served for the next few years taking
part in Cardinal Wolsey his diplomatic
voyages between 1521 and 1527 he was
also knighted by Charles Brandon for his
first military engagement in 1523 the
invasion of France in 1524 he was made a
knight of the body and in 1534 was made
master of the tower armory making him
wholly responsible for King Henry the
eighth's body armor throughout his life
John Dudley would be given many awards
and advancements he was present for the
christenings of both Elizabeth and
Edward he was appointed vice admiral in
1537 and took naval matters very
seriously he would master of the horse
for both Anne of Cleves and Catherine
Howard he was granted his grandfather's
title of I cut line in 1542 as appear in
1543 he then became Lord Admiral and a
knight of the Garter John Dudley would
also be admitted
the Privy Council he created the Council
of marine causes his Lord Admiral making
the English naval administration the
greatest and most effectual in Europe
having attained such a high standing
over his long years at court John Dudley
through his machinations after Henry the
eighth's death and his son Edward the
6th succeeded him being aware that not
only was he a minor but a sickly youth
as well John Dudley became the Earl of
Warwick when it would seem or Duke of
Somerset became Lord Protector as time
progressed and rebellion sat down the
players in this power struggle continued
to manipulate each other in a series of
political manoeuvres Dudley was
appointed Lord President of the Council
with the authority to debar councillors
and appoint new ones Dudley would also
have his sights set on the Dukedom which
would be awarded to him on October the
11th 1551 with summer suits
participation he was appointed Duke of
Northumberland within the week Somerset
was arrested charged with treason he was
acquitted but fell guilty of felony he
was executed of January the 22nd 1552 as
summer said no longer presented a
problem Dudley was at liberty to place
particular men into the roles most
suited to dudleys plans by Henry the
eighth's own hand his daughters could
not inherit the throne should Edward
died that being the case and ended his
defense he supported the young king in
his decision to have Lady Jane Grey
become queen this was the case and after
Edward's death Jane was proclaimed Queen
unfortunately Dudley was unable to
secure Mary from contesting this after
many deaths in battle the Privy Council
decided to give in to marry and
proclaimed her queen it would be Lord
Arundel who had come to arrest Dudley
and take him to the tower where he
awaited execution during this time
Dudley requested the services of the
priest to confess the returning to his
childhood faith has been seen as his way
of protecting his family from Queen
Mary's Roth on August the 22nd 1553 a
