The truth about what happened to Maria's accomplice

in the fake kidnapping of Shogo Ogata is still shrouded in mystery.

In order to get the 200 million back from Yokoji

Maria went as far as using Yokoji's daughter.

Maria!

He files for divorce.

We are over.

Kohei finally has his hands on the 200 million yen.

At the same time Soma is investigating a lead

that the night before his death, Ogata met with a woman

with a Band-aid on her ring finger.

Was it Maria who killed Ogata?

Meanwhile, Anna is secretly meeting

with the Mochizuki's neighbour Kazuki Kujirai

I HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL YOU REGARDING THE KIDNAPPING

It was you, right?

You killed Shogo Ogata.

What are you talking about?

I heard it all the night before he died.

What are you doing?

I'm going to free you from him, Maria.

I will kill him and end all of this.

He said that the kidnapping, everything, it was all my fault.

You should just say that you helped me at my request.

Sshh!

That night I realized

that Maria planned the kidnapping plot herself.

You would've been much happier with me, I'm sure of it.

That night I saw you. You were following after Ogata.

Yuki!

I'm going to follow them.

You were after the 200 million yen ransom, right?

So you teamed up with your love, Kohei.

And when you tried to steal the money

you ended up killing Ogata.

And what if I did?

I would blackmail you into giving me the money.

Well that's very unfortunate

because I didn't kill Ogata.

I don't have any money either.

Wait, did you...

It will be better for you if you don't make a scene.

If you do, we'll be going straight to the police.

YOU HAVE A NEW MESSAGE FROM KOHEI

KOHEI - I HAVE THE 200 MILLION. I'M HEADING TO YOURS NOW...

I have the 200 million.

I'm heading to yours now.

Prepare your passport and wait for me.

Come on.

ANNA KITAZATO

SORRY, I JUST SAW THIS NOW

WOW, 200 MILLION! BUT I'M NOT FEELING WELL TODAY.

I'LL BE IN TOUCH TOMORROW.

DON'T BULLSHIT ME!

I KNOW YOU ARE WITH SOME GUY RIGHT NOW.

What the hell are you doing here?

She doesn't want to see you at the moment.

Who do you think you are talking to me like that?

I could say the same about you.

You bastard!

Lay a finger on me and I'll go to the cops.

Something tells me you wouldn't want this getting out.

I won't forget this.

KUJIRAI

Ouch.

A hit with a stun gun and a blanket for an apology.

He was unable to say...

what was in his heart.

DIVORCE REGISTRATION PAPERS

This is Maria.

I have something I would like to ask you.

This is my payback for your phone.

Don't worry there are no sleeping pills in it.

Would you mind if I came in?

What do you want?

At great pains

I have come directly to give you a message.

Kohei is all yours.

Huh?

And don't worry about the shop either.

I hope you are happy for many years to come.

ANNA

Hello, Kohei.

What the hell do you want now?

What has gotten into you?

Hey, quit the bullshit.

Kohei?

I'm taking all of the money.

Enjoy yourself with your new man.

You fucking slut.

I think you have the wrong end of the stick.

Damn it!

It was never on the cards for me

to stay with Kohei forever.

It all began seven years ago.

FOOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ROOM

I made it through university thanks to a scholarship.

I first encountered her while working as an intern.

It's Maria!

She always looks so pretty.

She's rich, beautiful and even her personality is great.

She's perfect.

The CEO's daughter was gifted a job in the office.

It was her.

This will be your first time...

She was beautiful and rich.

She was guaranteed to be happy from birth.

I hated her so much it almost killed me.

They all look so delicious.

In order to survive

she learned how to deal with men from a young age.

Men are so simple.

When I see a weak woman who appears admirable

I instantly make them a friend.

I set a small trap for that woman.

I'm so sorry.

I thought that if hot coffee was spilled on her brand name suit

in front of a group of men, she'd demand my head on a plate.

Don't worry about it at all.

I was just worried some of it might have gotten on you.

Are you okay?

I'm fine.

That's good to hear.

Out of the way.

- Here, please take this. - Thank you so much.

- Please use this too. - Thank you very much.

Her actions belied my expectations.

It was then

black blemishes developed on my heart.

Blemishes I'd never get rid of.

I told myself that one day I'd rip

the mask off this womans face.

But this sheltered woman, left the company after marriage.

A number of years later

I heard rumors, she'd inherited her parents' fortune.

We now occupied different worlds.

It was just when I'd given up on her

that he came into my life.

Are you Anna Kitazato?

Yes.

I'm surprised. You are so pretty.

- What do you want with me? - I'm sorry.

Well, I am looking to open a new restaurant.

I want to have an outdoor terrace.

What do you think?

Kohei seemed really motivated by the idea of making his restaurant.

The inside would look like this.

But I don't know what to do about the menu.

I heard from my wife that she knows

a really great intern who could help with that.

I became his business partner.

Of course, I was charmed by the idea of running a café.

And I liked Kohei too.

But that wasn't me true aim.

My primary aim for getting involved in the café was to get close to her.

Ehm...

Please look after my husband.

Her name was Mochizuki Maria.

She was the only woman ever

that I felt like I had lost to.

Getting close to Kohei was easy.

I developed a relationship with him.

And I devised a plan to poison her

in order to get our hands on the inheritance.

That woman would be killed by the man that she loved.

It got me all excited just thinking about it.

But I lost our second battle too.

The masked witch snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

I want to beat her.

I want to see her wrapt with regret.

Damn it!

Please take pity on me.

Thank you for your assistance.

But now

she has told me I can have Kohei.

A thought came back to mind.

I don't need your sloppy seconds.

All I did was use Kohei as a tool

in order to make you suffer.

There is no value left to Kohei

after she has thrown him away.

I may have to think of another way to get to her.

A new plan to rip off her mask

and have her bow to her knees before me.

Thanks to those who made this food.

Achieving this goal was the only thing...

giving my life meaning.

It was my only way forward.

...not bad.

KOHEI HAS HIS MONEY AND FREEDOM COULD AN UNLIKELY PAIRING STOP HIM?

She had an accomplice.

- Kumagai and I. - What?

Are you being serious?

You did it, right?

I love my husband more than anyone.

N 31?

I can trust you, right?

I want you to make more poison.

Who do you plan on using this on?

You're going to kill them?

I have to do it.

Hello?

Yesterday evening, I received a request from your wife Maria

to act as her lawyer in divorce proceedings.

She is saying she would like a divorce.

What?

She does not require any financial support .

However, moving forward

it will be necessary to discuss the allocation of assets

such as the house and lands, cars, ownership of the shop

and any refunds from the cancellation of insurances.

What's wrong?

Do you have a problem with what I said?

No, nothing in particular.

There is one stipulation however.

You are requested not to go abroad

or anywhere far, until the conclusion of the divorce.

If you do not adhere to this condition

we will pursue another approach.

The injury to Maria's neck

will take about one week to heal.

IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 10 DAYS TO HEAL

It would appear as though she was assaulted with a stun gun.

It's a clear case of grievous bodily harm

If you break your promise

Maria says that she will press charges.

I trust that is understood?

That is all that I have to tell you.

Ehm...

Why...

Why has Maria so readily accepted the idea of divorce?

You were after her money, cheated on her

and even committed acts of violence.

Who wouldn't want to divorce someone like that?

Please excuse me.

I'll bring home a cake today.

Aww, you make me so happy.

What kind of cake do you want Yuki?

Hmm, well I'm happy

what whatever you think looks delicious.

Sounds good.

- Good morning. - Good morning.

Good morning.

Okay, I better get going.

Hey...

Kazu.

Where were you last night?

That time is mine to do with as I please.

Your right. Sorry.

But you should be at work now.

You should smile.

I'll see you later.

THIS GUY IS CHEATING WITH ANNA KITAZATO.

THIS GUY IS CHEATING WITH ANNA KITAZATO.

Why don't you get out here?

I know you were following me this whole time.

You should eat it.

I mean, I'm sure you grew up poor.

Who the hell are you?

I am exactly what you see right now.

Do you want some tea? I've already drank half of it though.

No.

At the Kujirai household I'm a sales consultant

at senior management level in a big foreign firm.

But here I am making money under the table.

Could that be because you were let go

in a corporate downsizing move and can't tell your wife?

No, no.

I've always been a handyman.

A handyman?

Although for the last number of years

I've just been a rental husband.

What the heck are you talking about?

I am not really married to Yuki Kejirai.

It's a completely make-believe relationship.

What?

It's like I'm a host

purchased with money.

In my job, I'm surrounded by old ladies.

Why would you do that?

For vanity. It's all for vanity.

Hello.

Hello.

She is surrounded by happy couples

so she would hate being seen to be a lonely middle-aged woman.

She actually has a lot of property

so she used to have a lot of power.

But two years ago, she was found to be evading tax

so it all got taken on penalties.

Lately, she is paying me late every month.

But then just as I was thinking

of giving up on the rented husband life

I saw a massive chance to make 200 million.

Kohei was the 200 million at the moment.

What?

I got an e-mail from Kohei yesterday.

He said that he got the 200 million

and wanted to escape with you.

I'M GOING TO YOUR HOUSE ANNA. WAIT THERE WITH YOUR PASSPORT.

So then, to prevent him from escaping with you

I showed him me bringing you home.

- How about we team up? - What?

I feel like we might be similar kinds of people.

You are my type too.

Someone pretty but with a dark side.

And what would you do if we teamed up?

Hmm...that's a good question.

You think I'd pick some guy

I just met over Kohei?

Well to be honest

I don't think you're satisfied with that guy.

He's better than you.

What the hell am I playing at?

NOT FOR EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION

If you call yourself an expert act like one.

I like this way

with you using taxes to do the investigating.

But why are you

looking into Maria Mochizuki's path?

She's your sister in law, right?

I was just interested.

Do you have something on her?

- What? - Well, it seems as though

the guys from Division 1 have their eyes on her too.

What do you mean?

I better get going.

Little Yone!

Who helped you out when there was that little incident with Harana

from the Trasport Division in the North Arakawa Precinct?

Who the hell was it?

Welcome, please take any free seat.

These two dishes are ready.

Okay!

Is this how you do this dessert?

Eh, I guess it's okay...

You need to be more confident when you speak.

You're the head chef now.

Got it!

Please take this to the customer.

- Of course. - Here you are.

I'm so sorry.

I got the order wrong. They wanted the pasta lunch.

No way? That's going to take some time.

- I'm really sorry. - Just relax.

Take this to them as an apology.

Okay, thank you very much.

Harako, make sure to smile, smile.

Okay.

Two galettes please.

Roger!

It has been such a great help to have you Maria.

Ryuta, you are doing great as a manager.

No, no, not at all.

Welcome.

We have uncovered that Shogo Ogata visited

a family restaurant a couple of hours before he dies.

The problems started after that.

Another person visited the same place...

later on, this woman.

According to the staff

she spent about 30 minutes talking to Shogo Ogata.

The staff remembered a particular feature of the woman.

There was a Band-aid

on the ring finger of her left hand.

So it seems like

you met with Shogo Ogata on that night.

We also had another interesting piece of eye witness evidence.

It was from the baseball field where the ransom exchange took place.

On that day

in the stands at first base

there was a woman wearing a black cap with white gloves

who had a big cooler box.

I finally figured it out.

There are about 219 staff

working on this case.

But the truth is...

they are all at the mercy

of a housewife messing around with some silly prank.

Maria Mochizuki...

you are the criminal.

During the kidnapping incident

you used and tricked Ogata

in order to get revenge against your cheating husband.

That is just all...

in your imagination inspector.

And in any case, if I did plan my own kidnapping

would that be a massive crime?

How dare you?

Do you know how much time we--

You are correct.

You are no fool.

You can't be charged with extortion

for having your husband steal your money.

You're aware that at worst

you'd get a suspended sentence

for obstructing business through fraud.

However, a man

called Shogo Ogata has now lost his life.

And I'll make sure you're punished accordingly.

Do you believe that I killed Mr. Ogata?

You made him write a suicide note, right?

To make it look like suicide. Then you asked him to disappear.

Could you pretend to have killed yourself?

Huh?

Write a suicide note and then disappear for a little bit.

If the plan goes well

I will give all of the money to you Ogata.

Understood.

If it helps you, Maria.

After you made him send that suicide note to the central

investigation office, you killed Ogata yourself.

You wanted him to take the fall for everything

while playing the role of the heroine in the tragedy.

There goes...

that imagination again inspector.

For now, right?

But I will uncover the truth.

However

it takes a really incredible person to take over a restaurant

once run by the husband who betrayed them and his lover.

Well, I love my husband more than anyone.

This is a seasonal fruit tart and pistachio mousse.

Which should I choose?

Let's share them both.

Sounds good. I'll bring us some tea.

Hey...

Yes?

This morning I saw this

in the mailbox.

THIS MAN IS CHEATING WITH ANNA KITASATO.

Oh...

Is this Kohei's way of getting back at me?

Is it true?

Are you jealous?

Of course not. What are you saying?

Of course. You couldn't be.

Sorry.

But don't worry. I won't cause you any trouble.

YOKOJI INVESTIGATION AGENCY

What is wrong with me?

I had the money

but now I feel this emptiness.

So, you were betrayed by Anna

and abandoned by Maria?

So you came to me out of loneliness.

All we did yesterday was steal and be stolen from.

Huh?

So it was you?

No, the circumstances have changed.

The police realized that Maria planned the kidnapping.

- What? - In that case

the secret 200 million that was always concealed from view

is now out in the open.

It is too risky to steal it now.

But this is bad right

that they know about the trick kidnapping?

It won't be considered a crime so it's not a big deal.

The problem is the death of Shogo Ogata.

They will try to find the perp.

I'm sure that it was Maria.

Do you think?

I looked at the investigation documents

and there's no way Maria could drop Ogata

from a window alone if he was brandishing a knife.

So who did?

Let's think about it this way.

Maria had another accomplice.

No way?

Do you know the guy that acted as Maria's home tutor?

Home tutor?

That guy

was fired by the Asakura's

when she was in high school

and was ordered never

to see Maria again.

HISAO KOGURE

So where is this Kogure guy?

After looking him up it seems like he's running

a bar in Naka Meguro.

HISAO KOGURE

Good evening.

Where is Kogure?

Seems he has gone abroad to purchase cigars.

So we struck out?

Oh, I meant to say the sign you have out front fell over.

- Thank you for letting me know. - No problem.

W-Wait!

- What the hell are you doing? - Look out for me!

He's coming back.

- It was fine. - Oh, was it?

I guess someone must have stood it back up. Right?

I guess so.

Did you find something?

Here.

NOVEMBER 31 HISAO KOGURE

It seems to be a wine bar that has shut up shop.

CLOSED NOVEMBER 31

So why does it matter?

How can you not get it?

Look! Here... and here.

N31?

So does this mean Kogure is wrapped up in everything?

I found this too.

The backdrop shows that it was taken here.

This place opened five years ago

so this means that Maria

was meeting her old home tutor here

and kept it a secret from her husband.

This was despite her parents forbidding it.

Huh?

But what does it all mean?

Something must have happened between them

when she was a high schooler.

Her parents found out about it and separated the two of them.

But even after that

they continued to have secret rendezvous.

How could she?

So she was betraying me all along?

Didn't I tell you?

Anything is possible in a marriage?

And don't forget, you were unfaithful too.

So I guess you are like two peas in a pod.

Although even your lover betrayed you.

ANNA KITASATO I WANT TO MEET YOU

What could you want from me after everything?

Kohei, you have got it all wrong.

Last night, that guy contacted me

saying that he knew all about the incident.

He drugged me with sleeping pills.

What?

He's after the 200 million.

How does he know about the money?

It seems as though he overheard you and Maria fighting.

Where is the money now?

You got it, right?

I can trust you, right?

Of course you can.

I would never betray you Kohei.

Never!

I'm so glad to hear that.

I was so worried about how I could cope alone.

There's no need to worry about that anymore.

Sorry.

That's incredible.

But we can't take off with this money anymore.

What?

It seems as though the cops have found out about Maria's

false kidnapping.

If it all comes out this goes back to Maria.

No way.

I guess it'll all come down

to what I get in the divorce settlement.

The divorce settlement?

I am thinking about divorcing Maria.

What?

I can't cope with being with her anymore.

And she was cheating on me first.

With this guy.

Maria did that?

His name is Kogure. He used to be Maria's home tutor.

Kohei is all yours.

It's from Maria.

Can we go for tea, just the two of us?

I'll be waiting at the café.

Why would she send you a message like that?

Perfect timing.

This cocoa is just about finished.

I made it strong so why don't we have it with some ice?

Sorry for this morning.

It was wrong of me to spring that on you.

Why did you say I could have Kohei?

I thought that if I said that to you

you could be more honest with your true feelings.

Deep down you don't really love Kohei, right?

You don't plan on being with him for the rest of your life, right?

What are you trying to say?

The reason I invited you here

is because there is something I really wanted you to hear.

What is it?

You killed Ogata.

Wasn't that you?

No, I didn't do it.

I know.

The person who actually did the deed

was your beloved Kogure, right?

You are the one

who doesn't really love Kohei, right?

You actually wanted to be with Kogure

who was ripped away from you in high school.

But then your parents died in an unexpected accident

and there was no-one standing in your way anymore.

The stage was set for you

to be with Kogure free from any barriers.

But because of your money

there was no way Kohei would be separated from you.

What's more

his lover went so far as to plan to poison you.

So that's why you hatched a crazy scheme.

So, in other words

your aim is to divorce Kohei

and to be with Kogure.

How do you know...

about Kogure?

I heard it from Kohei.

Is that so?

So then all I can do is ask you something.

I want you to make some new poison.

Increase the amount of adoxin

and make a poison that kills instantly.

What do you want to use it for?

I will...

kill Kohei.

It is obvious.

That man destroyed my pride

over these past six fruitless years.

And then after all that

I was attacked with a stun gun and he stole the 200 million yen.

Of course, I wouldn't ask you to do it for free.

I'll give you the 200 million and the rights to the café.

The masked witch finally showed her true colors.

Don't worry. I'm happy.

I really wanted to see your dark underbelly this whole time.

But I won't be tricked by you.

All you want to do is use me.

You will pin everything on me

and you'll take all of the money for yourself.

You don't need to worry.

I have a 200 million yen life assurance policy on Kohei.

I'm the beneficiary.

CONTRACT LIFE ASSURANCE

PAYOUT ON DEATH 200,000,000 JPY

BENEFICIARY - MARIA MOCHIZUKI

This is Kohei's suicide note.

SUICIDE NOTE

This letter has his prints on it

and includes a confession to the murder of Ogata

and some allusions to the idea of suicide.

Leave the placement of the suicide note to me and Kogure.

What I'm saying is that if Kohei dies, I get 200 million more yen.

And we can pin everything on Kohei too.

We would have a partnership of equals

where neither could attack the weaknesses of the other.

What do you think?

I think this would be good for you.

You...

really are a vicious monster.

I could say the same about you.

Okay. Let's work together.

You should go home and look into Maria.

What do you mean?

Look for evidence of the affair.

You will have to separate money out in the divorce, right?

Kohei?

What are you thinking coming here?

Maria is closing the café so it's okay.

- Really. - I made a big discovery.

I know what she really wants.

Leave the placement of the suicide note to me and Kogure.

What I'm saying is that if Kohei dies

I get 200 million more yen.

And...

we can pin everything on Kohei too.

This can't be happening.

You really are a vicious monster.

I could say the same about you.

Okay. Let's work together.

Of course I was lying.

If I wasn't there's no way I'd let you hear this.

I guess so.

That makes sense.

MARIA YOU HAVE A NEW MESSAGE

Before we start the formal negotations

let's meet together and chat.

Why don't we have dinner tomorrow at home?

What is she up to?

The date written on the suicide note was tomorrow.

Huh?

She plans on poisoning you at dinner tomorrow?

That's crazy.

We need to bring this to the cops.

That would be useless.

She's just saying that she is going to kill you.

But we can't go on like this.

Why don't you get her first?

Maria thinks that I am working with her.

This is the perfect chance.

I guess it is.

You have to get her before she gets you.

Yeah.

I have to do it.

I had never planned

on spending my life with Kohei.

I just wanted to annihilate her.

When you think about it

I have spent so much time

and risked so much on this one goal.

APRIL 24, 2016 KOHEI MOCHIZUKI

But I don't regret any of it.

She was a bigger prey

than I had ever imagined.

And I felt great about the evidence I had.

No matter what we you look at it

I was currently the one

in control of this game.

How great?

Let's stick with it to the very end.

Until her very end.

Please stop your foolishness?

You're a slave I bought with money.

How much of this would it take to kill him?

It would be almost instantaneous.

We will use this at tonight's dinner.

All I have to do is poison the food.

Ingesting adoxin.

Was this what it felt like on our first date?

You'll come home, right?

Of course.

These are pictures of a woman fleeing from the scene

where Shogo Ogata was murdered.

Do these belong to Maria Mochizuki?

You'll get your hands on Kohei's 200 million

and this café

Bye bye, Maria.
