What am I missing?

What am I missing?

Come on. Think, damn it.

Hey.

- You still up? - Was I talking out loud again?

Sorry.

Why don't you come to bed?

Because I'm failing.

He's beating me.

This is a bad one, huh?

Worst I've ever seen.

Worse than the strangler.

Even so, you need rest.

Pharaoh's already planned his next attack.

He's teasing me with a clue about what it is.

- What clue? - I don't know.

Something to do with the number 7-2-9.

729. $7.29.

I don't know what it means, but it means something.

Rogue.

You're exhausted.

That's what the coffee's for.

I see I'm gonna have to break out the big guns.

Go…

to…

bed.

Unfair.

You're gonna kill yourself, you know that?

It's the only way to save his next victims.

But you couldn't even save me.

Hey. Morning.

- Were we supposed to meet? - No. I…

I just wanted to bounce some things off you before I go to work.

Okay.

Is it cheat day or something?

No. Sometimes…

processed sugar helps me think.

Why are you here?

Think I figured something out.

Does it have anything to do with the number 7-2-9?

No…

I was thinking about the different weapons Pharaoh's deployed for all the attacks,

like the murder hornets, the pathogens he used on the looksmaxxers,

- the bacteria he put in the eye drops. - And?

Well, all three of those are illegal to possess inside the United States.

I'm thinking…

he's using a smuggler.

A smuggler?

I went into a few online forums, made a couple posts.

The first, I was just looking for exotic insects,

and in the other,

I was looking for different kinds of deadly bacteria.

But the interesting part

is I got tons of handles for different smugglers on the dark web,

but only three names are repeated on both posts.

So you're telling me that you took confidential information

from an active investigation and put it on the Internet?

Whoa, no. It's not like that.

What if Pharaoh was on one of the forums himself?

You could have just tipped him off that we're onto him.

Do you realize you might have jeopardized this entire investigation?

So damn stupid.

Not you, me.

For indulging your little cop fantasy.

Yeah, I…

- I gotta get to my real job, so… - Ryan…

- Ryan, I didn't mean it that way, okay? - No, you did.

And you know what?

I think you're right, you know?

See you.

Nice.

All right, you guys, the eagle has landed.

Jack from reception just texted.

Somebody pulled into the manager spot.

The new supervisor.

What do we know? What does she drive?

A minivan.

That sounds promising.

Family oriented, practical.

Just please don't let her be psycho.

Yeah.

Hello. Good morning, everyone.

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.

My name is Dr. Marcia Zellner,

and I will be your new call center manager.

Welcome aboard, Doctor. It's good to have you.

- Please, call me Marcia. - Okay.

And you must be Cammie Raleigh.

How'd you know?

I had the privilege of reading all of your personnel files,

and you have multiple commendations for leadership.

So when all of your peers gathered around your desk, I just suspected.

And when you spoke first, I knew.

Look, I know that all of you have been under

a lot of strain with this mysterious new criminal, the Pharaoh,

who is just tormenting Nashville.

I have a PhD in clinical psychology and crisis management,

and I promise you that I am going to cultivate

a culture where your mental health and wellness is the top priority.

So don't think of me as a boss. Just think of me as a friend.

Moment of truth.

- What? - Well, what if there are side effects?

Well, all medications have side effects.

Look at this.

This is like the War and Peace of adverse effects.

So if it doesn't work, then you stop taking it.

Look, you wanna know something?

I admire you for doing this.

For taking a shot?

Yeah, for taking a risk.

And to improve your health, it's just…

um…

I mean, if I'm honest, I actually…

I kinda think it's sexy.

Hmm!

Was that all I had to do?

It's all you ever have to do.

I'm so glad this bed divorce is over.

- Mmm. - Come with me.

Well, hold on.

- Who says we need a bed? - Oh.

Oh, my God, it's been so long since we've done this.

Far too long.

Open up.

I see y'all.

God, y'all have no shame.

There could be kids out here for all you know.

You've got to be kidding me.

Dix, you know you shouldn't be here.

Yeah, well, you gave me no choice 'cause you ain't been answering my calls.

Well, let her in.

What can I do for you, Dix?

I need to talk about this tour with the woman who owns my contract.

This humiliation tour you want to send me on,

playing every Podunk and ass-crack in North America.

There's some midsize cities in there too.

I mean, Milwaukee is a fine town.

Yeah, but look at these venues. Empty.

We ain't sold 100 tickets between 'em.

- Hmm. - God, I know that you know jack

about the music business.

But any self-respecting label would cancel with numbers like these.

Hmm.

Don, please just speak some sense into this woman.

She's the boss.

I am telling you,

there ain't no point in going through with this except to punish me.

Well, I mean, that's not exactly a downside for me,

but either way, it's in your contract.

- So let's go. - Whatever.

Have a nice flight.

Everyone, Metro has an important update about the Pharaoh.

Detective, the floor's all yours.

Thank you, Doctor.

We believe the Pharaoh's next attack is imminent

and that it's going to be related to the number 7-2-9.

We've looked into addresses, grid coordinates, license plates,

but we haven't gotten anything concrete so far.

If any of you receive a call

or come across the number 7-2-9 in any configuration,

I don't care how farfetched, call me.

And in the meantime,

you need to keep an eye out around here too.

You think we're in danger?

Pharaoh called 911 to threaten anyone who tries to stop him,

which is literally your job.

So yes.

With Pharaoh, everything's on the table.

We now invite all Group A passengers on Keystar Flight 729 to Milwaukee.

All Group A passengers can now board.

Does that thing come with headphones?

I didn't bring any.

- Well, did you bring any parents? - No.

I'm Danny. I'm going to sailing camp in Milwaukee.

My parents say I spend too much time staring at screens,

so I need dedicated outdoor time.

Yeah. All right, I ain't doing this.

- Um, ma'am, what are you doing? - Hmm?

Oh. Relax. It ain't real.

It's just… smokeless. It helps calm the nerves.

That's not what I meant.

It's a $120 upgrade fee to change to these seats.

But this plane is empty.

I'm sorry, it's airline policy.

Heck, you know what? This is why everybody hates the airlines.

God, y'all use your policies to grind folks to dust,

and I, for one, will not be ground.

- Hell yeah. Fight the power. - See?

I ain't the only one.

Ma'am, we can't take off until every passenger is in their ticketed seat.

Just shut up and go back to your seat, you Karen.

Excuse me, I am not a Karen.

I am Dixie Bennings, who has sung with Faith and Dolly,

and don't nobody tell me to shut up or stick me in some crappy seat.

I don't care who you are.

If you don't get up, I'll have the police escort you off the plane.

Fine. But you know what?

This is all going in my Yelp review.

God.

This is stupid.

- Hey. - What?

Are you the same Dixie that sang "Hey, Lady B"?

My first officer went to the bathroom and all hell broke loose.

Cobras?

so you need to get back on the ground immediately.

It'll take us about 20 minutes to circle around.

Hey, Captain, if I may, I have one idea.

If you can lower the cabin temperature, it could send the snakes into brumation.

You know, Stanley, the last thing your nervous system needs is more caffeine.

You might wanna try this.

Got peppermint tea for energy.

And chamomile for serotonin.

It will soothe your mind.

That's very thoughtful, Marcia. Thanks.

Mm-hmm. You know, I just…

I wanted to check in with all of you after that call, see how you were feeling.

We're getting through it.

You know, Lorna, you promising that mother

that you would tell her family that she loved them?

That really choked me up.

And, Stanley, you praying with that caller?

It gave me chills.

It came from the heart.

Yeah.

- We get invested around here. - We do.

It's who we are.

Well, it shouldn't be.

Wait, what?

When you involve yourself emotionally...

praying, crying, oversharing...

you open yourself up to all kinds of problems.

It's called empathy and rapport.

It's called cortisol and hypertension.

The more you identify with the caller,

the more your body produces stress hormones,

which can cloud your judgment and also cause numerous physical ailments.

Like indigestion, cardiac issues, and even strokes.

So what do you suggest we do? This isn't customer service, it's 911.

This is the worst moment of our callers' lives.

But it should not be the worst moment of your lives.

It is simply unsustainable.

It's part of my job to make that decision.

What does that mean?

It's my duty to evaluate your mental fitness

and determine if you have

what it takes to handle these trying circumstances.

And what if you determine that we can't?

I think you know the answer to that question.

She doesn't seem so friendly anymore.

- Ready to go? - Yep.

Thinking Roddy's or Clem's?

Let's do Roddy's. It's more quiet. We can talk.

I like that.

- Rogue? - Hey.

I was hoping I could talk to Ryan in private.

Yeah, anything you want to say to me, you can say in front of my dad.

That's fair.

I wanted to apologize for going off on you.

You're under a lot of pressure.

- I get it. It's okay. - No, you don't.

Not really.

The Staten Island Strangler killed my wife.

What?

In the podcast, they...

I wouldn't let 'em put it in the podcast 'cause it was too painful.

And it was all my fault.

Sorry to hear that.

I'm sure it wasn't your fault.

Yeah, it was.

He told me himself.

The Strangler?

Chloe and I were separated.

My obsession with the case is what caused the split.

He called me from her phone…

so that I could hear her die.

Said it was my fault because I couldn't catch him.

Damn.

Anyway, I take it personally when I can't solve a case,

because every day I don't, more people get hurt.

And the last thing you need is some wannabe detective

slowing you down with half-assed theories.

My sleuthing days are done.

That would be too bad.

Because you're pretty damn good at it.

What do you mean?

Your instinct to go after smugglers to find Pharaoh?

- Spot-on. - You got something?

The crate Pharaoh used to smuggle the snakes onto the plane.

It was inspected by a USDA Agent Duncan.

He put in the log that he personally searched it,

vouched that it was only flowers.

- You think he could be Pharaoh? - Or assisting him.

Either way, this could change everything.

So why don't you have him in cuffs right now?

Because he's in a coma.

He went to the ER for a venomous snake bite two hours

before the plane took off.

- Is he gonna wake up? - Hopefully, in the next few hours.

I was wondering if you'd like to go with me to interview him.

Me?

- Uh, why me? - 'Cause you earned it.

I got plans tonight. I can't.

Well, it was worth a shot.

- Night, fellas. - Good night.

Hold on.

Ryan.

- You should go. - No, no, I'm not gonna bail on you.

You're not bailing on me.

- Go. - Yeah?

- Go on. - Thank you.

- Captain. - Detective.

One that I am honored to share with you all here tonight.

It's called "Hey, Lady B"!

She's performing the diss track?

- Did you know she was doing it? - No idea.

I guess some of y'all heard the YouTubes, huh?

Now I know y'all been wondering who this song is about,

but I was threatened with a lawsuit, so I kept my mouth shut.
