-Well, we voted.

“From California”

-All we can do now is pray.

-Hey there, darlin.

I can help you check in right here.

-Oh okay.

-I need to see your ID.

-Step to the table and they’ll take care of you.

(ID scan beep)

How are you?

-Is 821 Thomas Drive still your current address?

-Mhm

-Alrighty. Here you go.

You can join the line.

-Thank you.

-Vote wisely.

-You can go right to the table, ma'am.

-Keep your eyes out for any funny business.

Who knows what they're going to try this time?

-Oh, yeah.

-Hey, I'm sorry.

You can't have your phone out in here.

If you could just put that away, please.

-How else are we supposed to tell you all are running things by the book.

-Well, the book says, no photos allowed within 100ft of the polling location.

So, if you could just put that away-

Or, I can get the sheriff if you prefer.

-Fascist.

-Just step to the table, ma'am.

(gum bubble pop)

-Fine.

-Should learn to treat ladies with more respect.

-I'll do that, sir. Just please step the table.

-Sorry.

Do you need one?

-How sweet of you, but no.

My vote is locked and loaded.

First time?

-Uh yeah. How could you tell?

-You can always tell when it's someone's first time.

You know who you're going to vote for, or

you're just gonna wing it when you get up there?

-I think so. I think... Think so?

Good luck girl.

-Okay, ma’am, can you step right to the table and they'll take care of you.

-Thanks.

- Hi. - Hey. How are you?

-Good, thanks.

-Good. What's your name?

-Ana Rodriguez.

-All right, great. Got you right here.

So, this is going to be the code that you enter when the screen prompts you

and Betty here will take care of your ballot. Okay?

-Thanks.

-Oh, got your code?

Wonderful. Here's your ballot.

When you get up there, just follow the prompts on the screen.

Oh, and, it's a touchscreen, by the way.

Throws me off every time.

Right over there.

-Okay.

-What do you mean I can't vote?

-I'm sorry, sir, but the address I have on

my computer is not the same as the address on your ID card.

-He's been living in this county where he's registered at for almost two years now.

-Okay, there's no need for a tone.

I am certain we can get this worked out.

I-I just need a minute. Okay?

-You know, these rules are only in place to protect the voting process. Okay?

-This is discrimination and voter suppression.

-Listen, lady, I've never had issues before.

Why are you hassling me now?

-I'm not hassling you, sir.

-Sir, please, just be patient.

We're going to take care of this for you right away.

-Looks like we have a future vote on our hands.

-We better.

-Everybody.

I need you to stop what you're doing.

This building is going under temporary lockdown.

All voting operations must cease

and will resume as soon as this location is cleared.

-Not uh.

-You in a gray hat.

Hey, gray hat boy.

Step away from the voting machines.

-You can't come in here and stop us from voting, man.

I know my rights.

-Oh, really?

We absolutely can.

Not to worry. You get back to voting directly.

-Sir, please step away,

have a seat and await further instructions.

-Are we in danger?

-Excuse me. Is there any more information you can give me?

Is-is this an active shooter situation?

-Oh, dear.

-I can assure you, no one is in any immediate danger.

Situation is currently being handled by the proper authorities.

But tell me something, are you in charge here?

- Yes, sir. - Okay.

I need you to keep everyone calm

while we conduct a brief investigation of the premise.

Can you do that for me?

-Yes, sir.

- My man. - I can keep everybody in line.

-Also, I need to lock these doors.

Can I see your keys for a few minutes.

-Yeah.

-No way. Uh-uh.

You can't lock us all in here.

-Sir. This is for your own safety.

-Excuse me, sir, how long do you think this will take?

-Now we can have this thing as smooth as clockwork

or it can be a car accident.

With full cooperation,

everybody will be home for supper.

-You can't force us to stay in here.

You can't stop democracy.

-Oh, hell no, seriously, you're gonna lock us in here with these people?

No offense. Just-

-I promised my mom I'd be home for dinner.

It's taco night.

-Uh, Sheriff, we've already voted, so can we just slip out before you-

-I’m afraid not, ma'am. Everyone, just have a seat.

-We have a right to know why you're keeping us here.

-Don’t worry. I’ll handle this.

You just go take care of whatever you need to do, all right?

-Alright. For your own safety, my deputy,

will be standing right outside that door.

No one in and no one out.

-All right, everybody, you heard the man.

If you're currently standing in a voting machine, please step away.

You'll be able to continue voting as soon as we're given the ‘All Clear’.

-Here we go.

-We have chairs around the room.

Make yourselves comfortable.

Uh Volunteers.

If you could all come over here and talk to me for a minute.

Since this is kind of unusual circumstances,

you want a little more privacy?

- Yeah. - Okay.

Well, the chairs are over there,

and maybe you can probably just sit right behind those tables.

Okay?

Okay.

Okay. Well this is-This is strange.

-Hi my Kelly Beans!

So, I've got a crazy sitch happening.

Okay. We're not really supposed to have our phones.

But, you guys are not gonna believe this.

Our voting center just went into lockdown.

Like, is this real?

-We should keep politics out of the conversation.

-Yeah. No. No political talk.

- Any certain topics? - Just keep everything civil.

-I'm not really sure how much longer we're going to be in here.

And, we still have to deal with this stupid issue with Keshawn’s registration.

Voter suppression is really you guys, and we are witnessing it firsthand.

-Okay.

Thanks, guys. Go back to your stations.

All right. Personally, I don't trust any of these people.

A bunch of Bible-thumping, right-wingers.

Say hi to the people, Kay.

Hashtag red county.

-Like I said, I knew what was gonna happen.

I can't trust any of these people.

-Nope.

I can believe it. I can believe it.

I can believe it.

-Excuse me, while we're waiting.

Let's get his registration figured out.

-Uh, sure. Why don't you just bring your chairs over here?

Okay.

-I don't trust none of them.

Surrounded by a bunch of Demon-crats.

-It’s okay, babe.

We're watching them.

No way they're going to pull anything with us here.

We prepared for this.

-Would you like to sit with us?

We don't bite.

-Oh. Thank you.

That's very sweet. Um...

Would kind of like a minute by myself.

-It's okay.

Well, if you change your mind, will be happy to chat.

-Thank you.

-So, what made you decide

to volunteer as a poll worker, huh?

You're so young.

I'm used to seeing a bunch of old fuddy-duddies like myself.

(Laughing)

-Well, I guess it's sort of part of it.

Um...

I used to hate politics, but when I was in college,

I started to recognize that all of our current representatives

don't actually represent American demographics.

Basically, I just really think it's important that more young people

get involved.

And, what better way than to lead by example?

-You're very bright.

I think my generation could learn something from you kids.

-Aww

-Hey, it looks like we got it figured out.

You should be good to vote as soon as we're back up and running.

Now, I do recommend you getting your ID updated as soon as you get a chance.

This way you won't have to go through all this again.

-Thanks, man. I'm sorry we were short with you.

It’s just this is kind of bullshit happens so often.

It's like I got to live prep to fight for myself, you know?

Can't say I know what that's like, but, um-

you know, as an Army vet,

past trauma can really take a toll on you.

-Army?

-Mhm.

-Marines.

Just finished my six-year contract.

-Oh. No kidding.

-Yeah.

-Sorry I get so much disrespect.

You know, vets aren't appreciated in this country like we used to be.

-Damn straight.

-Well, I thank both of you for your service.

I don't have the stomach for it personally, but-

-Yeah.

-We got it settled, so he's going to get to vote.

Nice try though.

-Did you honestly come all the way over here just to attack me?

-Your generation is so entitled.

-Voting is our right, whether you like it or not, Karen.

-I'm not having this conversation with you.

Did you get it fixed?

Good. - Let it go, Elsa.

-Fucking bitch.

-Got a question?

-Uh. Well, uh, I was wondering if, uh-

-It's okay. Spit it out.

-Well, could I ask you something?

It's probably not appropriate.

-Ohh, please do tell.

I'm a fan of inappropriate.

-Who are you voting for?

-No one’s posting about anything popping off yet.

You know, I would bet my life that this election is going to be

just like the last one.

-No way. Not uh.

No. We're holding them accountable this time.

And, the Right president's going to be up in the White House.

-All right, all right.

-Can we help you?

-Oh, Well, that is a personal question, especially here.

Why do you ask?

-To be perfectly honest, uh...

I don't know who I'm going to vote for.

You know, I've gone back and forth about it a lot.

And, I hear these things, and... I don't know.

I just want to make the wrong decision.

-Honey, it is precious that you are so concerned with this,

but don't stress so much. Right?

It's not like one vote is going to alter the outcome.

-Hey.

Hate to butt in.

-Oh, Couldn't tell.

-But -Y'all don't really believe that, do you?

That the election was stolen?

- Yeah. - That's what happened.

And it won't happen again.

-No.

-Tell that to the judges that threw out over 70 court cases.

If anybody's cheating, it's the Right

with their voter suppression, gerrymandering and voter intimidation.

I mean, which side led the insurrection on the Capitol?

Huh?

Hey. Those people were patriots trying to protect their land from being taken.

-More like sore losers.

-Watch your mouth.

-Just ignore them, baby. They're liberals.

- Right. - But, every vote counts.

Okay. Especially now, who you vote for in this election

could have a major impact on where we go from here.

-She’s right, you know. Voting is an important part of being an American.

I was just telling my son that we have to make sure that our voices are heard.

-Oh, I don't disagree.

I just don't want this kid to have a freak-out over it.

This is going to be your first of many elections to come.

-You know, no one knows if the candidate they vote for will be a good president.

You just make the best choice based on your options.

Then, see how they do as president.

And, in four years, you do it again.

It's an ever changing thing.

(Kelly laughs)

-Y’all think something’s funny?

-We’re not talking to you, man.

-All right, well, I see you two.

Uh huh.

Just know we're watching everything that goes down in here.

-Everything.

-Oh, You have eyeballs.

Wow. Good for you.

-Mmm, yeah.

Y'all think you're so high and mighty, don't ya?

Well, guess what.

Y'all ain't gonna win this time.

The storm is coming.

Brace yourselves.

-What are you talking about, Billy Bob?

-Don't talk to me like I'm some dumb redneck.

The name's Jimmy, and you know what I'm talking about.

This election is going to be different than the last one.

-And, why do you think that, huh?

(laughing)

-Your side's going to lose.

We're going to make sure that.

Yep.

You know, the very fact that you're so concerned about voting puts

you way ahead of most-most kids your age.

You know, it won't be long before you can vote to.

-My side?

You don't know me.

-Oh yeah I do.

I know your kind.

-My kind?

Did you just do “you people” me?

-Oh, here we go.

-Are you really going full racist right now?

- No. - He's talking about the Democrats.

-Okay, sweetie.

You just go on thinking your crazy conspiracy

theories and propaganda that you're lying, right-wing media feeds you.

-Maybe we should say something.

Politics. We don't want this to get ugly.

-I got it. Okay, everybody.

Uh. This has neither the time and

certainly not the place to be discussing politics.

We can all talk, but let's keep it civil.

You know? Try to avoid sensitive topics.

We're all neighbors.

Lord says to “love thy neighbor.”

-Okay. Sorry.

You're asking us not to talk about sensitive topics,

and yet you and your little speech with a God-plug.

How is that not sensitive or political?

-God's not political.

-God may not be, but his followers sure are.

-Religion is just as bad as politics.

-Yeah, I know. Thank you. Okay, okay. Okay. See that?

That's exactly what I'm talking about.

Let's, uh-

Let's stick to topics like, you know, I don't know your-

your hobbies. Your kids.

Jobs.

(nervous laughter)

Can we all do that?

(chair pushes back)

-How can you say those things about Christians?

Christians are good people.

-Tanya. Tanya. You're leader here.

I need you not to engage.

-No, sir.

-I will not back down when it comes to defending my Lord.

-Tanya.

I-I think Pete's right.

We should lead by example.

-Yeah.

Isn't that what Jesus would do?

-Now, we shouldn't lump any one group of people together.

Everyone is different.

I like your idea, Pete.

We are part of the community, and I think we should get to know each other.

Hmm?

-That's just fine.

-Maybe make some friends?

(cheerful laughter)

Oh, I'll go first.

Hello, everyone.

My name is Betty. Betty wisher.

-Hi, Betty.

-I'm 72-years-young and I grew up in Tennessee,

but I live here now to be close to my kids and grandkids.

Umm.

I'm retired, but I feel like it's important

to stay active, so I volunteer at several organizations.

I really believe in giving back to my community.

-Oh. That's great.

I love that.

How many grandkids do you have?

-I have eight.

(laughter)

The older ones have discovered the Great British Baking Show.

And I bake, so I'm teaching them some.

And, oh, have y’all seen that? Have you seen it?

Oh, I just love how even though they're in competition,

they are so polite and wholesome to each other.

Isn't that great?

-I love that show.

We actually traveled to London last year.

They have so much history and culture. And, I-

-And stolen artifacts from colonization

and a bunch of do nothing royals to just happen to win the birth lottery.

-Well, it's

considerably safer than it is here, so they must be doing something right.

-All right.

The UK has some wonderful qualities and not such a great past.

Now, that that's settled, I'll go.

Betty, if you're finished sharing?

-Oh, go right ahead.

That's pretty much all there is to me.

-Well, my name is Roger.

-What's up, Roger?

-I'm a single dad to two beautiful girls, Rhoda and Ramona.

My wife passed from cancer about three years ago.

Her name was Rhonda.

Roger, Rhonda, Rhoda, and Ramona.

Anyway, umm... I coached my girls’ soccer team.

And, I just joined a gardening club,

and I just harvested my first cucumbers

and they were amazing.

It actually gets my girls to eat vegetables now.

-Those were some mighty fine cucumbers, Roger.

-Mighty fine.

-Thanks, Pete.

-You garden?

Oh, that is wonderful.

I always wanted to, but I just end up killing everything I touch.

(laughing)

Honestly, I just don't really have the time to devote to it.

I mean, (exasperated exhale)

I've got four kids.

(laughing)

I am the president of the PTA at the elementary school.

And, I volunteer at my church and-

community events.

I really feel like

I've been so blessed to get to be a stay-at-home mom, and

I kind of feel like it's my job to plug in

and give back as much as I can.

Especially now, when so many people are really hurting. It-

It's just heartbreaking.

Oh! Oh.

(laughing)

I'm Tanya, by the way.

(big exhale)

Who's next?

This is fun.

-Oh, so sorry.

- It’s okay. - Uh Hi, everyone. I'm Ben.

I'm a senior. I can't wait to graduate.

I’m waiting to hear back from some schools I applied to.

I really want to get into Cal Arts and move to California.

I want to be an illustrator.

Maybe get into animation. Stuff like that.

That's amazing.

Yeah, uh-Fingers crossed, I don't know if

my grades are good enough to get in, but um-

Yeah.

Just excited to be here.

-It is this sweet boy's first time voting.

He's a voting virgin.

-Yay.

-Yeah. It's true.

-If you want to make this country better, don't vote Blue.

-Hey, hey, hey, hey.

Don't tell them who to vote for.

It's his choice.

-He seems like a smart kid.

Eh, except for the Californian nonsense.

Other than that, I’m sure he'll make the right choice.

(patriotic fife music plays)

-How about nobody talks about who they're going to vote for?

Okay?

No one's going to change anybody's mind.

So, let's just move on.

-Thank you. Thank you, Roger. Uh-

Can everyone please just refrain from talking politics while here?

Okay?

Okay, great. I didn't expect to get to know

everybody coming here to vote today, but, umm-

unusual circumstances.

So, here we are.

My name's Pete.

I'm a combat veteran.

I've got some kids, but they're all grown up now and living their own lives. And,

Uh. Well, oh, as for hobbies,

I'd like to go shooting on the weekends.

Yeah.

Not much more to tell, I guess.

Um.

Just a simple man leading a simple life.

-What you shooting?

-You name it, I've got it.

Do you shoot?

-Yes, sir.

We got a concealed handgun licenses.

You know, some AR’s. Obviously. Rifles.

Shotguns.

We're ready for whatever happens.

-Okay. I'm sorry.

What exactly do you think is going to happen?

What? Are you going to fight the government

or you just preparing for some fictional zombie apocalypse?

(laughing)

-Well, let's just say if there ever comes a day

where we got to fight enemies, foreign or domestic, we're ready to do so.

You shoot a gun, kid?

-I’ve played a lot of CoD.

-Oh, yeah?

You any good?

-I'm not bad. I stream sometimes.

- Oh, yeah. - Nice.

-You like Call of Duty, you’d love the real thing.

-Oh, okay. No. We're averaging just about two mass shootings per day in the US.

Over 40,000 people die here from gun violence every year.

It is the leading cause of death for kids and teens in this country.

And, this doesn't happen in other first world countries.

This is uniquely a USA problem.

-Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

All those mass shootings that's just a result of mental health issues, not guns.

-Yeah, and it don't matter anyway.

As a 2A says, “Thou shalt not be infringed.”

I'll buy up every gun I can because I can.

And, no amount of liberal crybabies are going to stop it.

-Well, you're missing the part about “well-regulated” but go off.

No amount of children's bodies are going to stop you.

Guns before kids. Got it.

-We care about kids.

You know, and to say that we don't,

is just manipulative and wrong.

When you grow up with your food coming from

whatever you're able to hunt.

Okay, you build an appreciation for them.

I mean, I literally would not have eaten if it weren't for guns.

They're an important tool.

-Okay. And, how many deer did you hunt with an AR-15?

None.

Those guns are not made for hunting animals.

They are made for killing people.

(music stops)

I mean, does anyone else agree with me on this?

-We agree with you.

They shouldn't be legal for civilian use. - Your side’s screwed

if shit hits the fan.

(Keshawn laughs)

-If you don't think liberals have guns, then you're in for a rude awakening

if shit ever does “hit the fan.” (patriotic music plays)

I mean, we're all for stricter gun laws, but I grew up around guns as well.

And, I'm also well aware that there are people in this world

who, if got the chance, we shoot me down right where I stand.

So, while it is my right,

you better believe I'm strapped.

And, more and more liberals are arming themselves

every single day.

-Well, I’ll be.

We got some in common then.

-My husband always slept

with a cute little .38 right on his bedside table.

I felt a little safer knowing that we could defend ourselves, if we had to.

-If you take the proper training and you learn to use them safely,

they're not that dangerous.

Okay? I mean, I got my first .22

when I was eight years old, and I got my boy his when he turned eight.

If you just treat them with reverence and respect, okay, you'll be just fine.

(music stops)

-Uh-uh.

It's not that easy.

Kids get a hold of their parent’s guns that they thought were secure,

and then they go and they shoot up schools with it.

I'm a teacher.

And, we do active shooter drills multiple times a year.

Did any of y'all grow up with those?

-I've done them since kindergarten.

No cap. They're pretty scary.

You see?

Kids that young shouldn't have to learn these things.

I fear for my life every day when we're at school.

I fear for my son's life.

Sometimes, you know, I'm-

I'm grateful that he's deaf.

Because,

God forbid, if he ever were in an active shooter situation, then he-

he wouldn't have to hear the screams

and the gunshots.

-It does seem like it's a problem that's just getting worse, and

something needs to be fixed.

-Oh, come on, kid, don't listen to them.

Look, imagine you're walking down the street and you get attacked.

You gonna wanna protect yourself, right?

Yeah, well, these bleeding hearts

want to take away your rights and have you dyin’ in the street.

-Please don't manipulate the guy with fear mongering.

-Don't take away our right to bear arms.

-Okay, Moms for Liberty.

Let's not act like anyone's trying to take your guns.

So dramatic.

(sarcastic laugh)

-Well, I got just about all you pegged.

-Yep.

-What do you mean, dear?

-I know how you all vote.

-Who cares? We all had

you two pegged from the minute we first laid (police radio chatter)

eyes on you.

-Yeah, that's right, because we ain't ashamed.

We were loud and proud.

-Clearly.

-You see, kid, Democrats try to act all secretive-like about the politics,

but they're easy to spot when you know what to look for.

-Imagine how pathetic it is to spend every waking moment wearing

your political party on your sleeve, just looking for ways to get triggered.

Your life is your political party, isn't it?

-Ha! You're one to talk.

Look at you. You got black power written all over you.

-It's just a black shirt.

-Okay, okay, okay, okay.

I've let it slip into too much political talk, but that’s on me.

All right.

But, from now on, no more.

Okay? I don’t want to have to break up any fights.

All right, let's just stick

to our individual conversations till we hear back from the deputy.

(drumming starts)

Okay?

Come on.

(drumming music plays)

(bubble gum pops)

(drumming music plays)

(drumming music ends)

-What are you working on?

-It's my dissertation for my grad program.

-Oh.

What's it about?

-Exploring the cultural construction of gender and sexuality

across different societies.

-Wow. And, here I am drawing pretty pictures.

(laughing)

-Well, I can't draw to save my life.

So, that's really cool.

-No, But, like,

you're, like, actually contributing to humankind, you know?

Sounds important.

-It’s very important, dear.

But, art is just as important.

For, what is life without art, huh?

-Hey, girl.

What's your name?

-My name is Hailey.

-Hailey.

You know that colleges are the liberal haven for brainwashing.

-Yeah.

-You drink the Kool-Aid yet?

-Getting an education and learning to think for yourself

Is not brainwashing.

-Education is the best way to better one's

economic situation.

(big breath inhale)

Such a bitter berry.

Anyways, what are you studying?

-Cultural anthropology with an undergrad in psychology and poli sci.

- Wow, that's really impressive. - Wow, such a smarty pants.

-I really enjoy learning about people,

how our brains work, how we interact with others and our surroundings.

One thing I've learned through all of my research is that so many societies fail

when the people in power get the citizens to turn against each other.

-That's easy for you to say with your big education.

Well, guess what?

We done our own research too.

-Going down the rabbit hole of memes and common threads only bolster

what you already believe is not doing your own research.

-Everyone is in their own echo chambers thanks to social media.

Okay.

It happens on both sides.

-Stupid algorithms.

Yeah, you can't trust MSM.

It's all bought and paid for by liberals.

And, if you watch, you're all sheep.

-Okay, the problem is any for-profit media channels who will always be

in the interest of profit over truth.

-And, what we're supposed to go to government funded news?

Yeah, right. We can really trust that.

Right?

It's just there's no incentive for reporting the news

without an extreme bias or viewpoint anymore.

If one person says it's raining outside and another person says it's clear

a journalist job is not to give both sides an equal forum.

Their job should be to open a window and report what the weather really is.

But, that doesn't get ratings or clicks.

-Just because you went to college, you think you're so much better than us.

- Yeah. - She's just telling us about herself.

-No need to turn it into a personal attack.

-No, no. It's okay, Betty. I'm used to harassment.

-Umm, it is not okay.

Nobody should have to put up with harassment.

You know, I have, like, 800,000 followers, and

you’d be amazed at the power of one live stream.

-Do it, Blondie.

-Don't tempt me.

- You know, that's funny because you've done nothing but harass us.

-We're only intolerant of intolerant people.

-A.K.A. you.

-How about we all turn down the temperature?

If we can have a calm conversation and listen to one another.

Maybe we can find common ground and-and all get along.

-Roger, I got this, okay?

-It's my job.

-Well, you're not doing your job.

You don't get involved until it's already out of control.

-Well, how are they going to r-respect my authority if you keep undermining me?

-Undermining you?

-Well (awkward laugh)

I would just like to take this opportunity

to invite everyone to one of my establishments.

-Thank you.

Here you go, sweetie.

You? Um-No? Okay.

All right.

For you.

Oh, Betty.

There you go.

I love the colors. It's giving. Yes, yes.

My name is Luke.

But, you get to know me, you can call me Lucky.

I own several bars and other businesses.

Um.

Yeah? Okay.

-Thank you.

-You may have heard of some of them.

Lucky’s?

(music stops)

Here you go. (patriotic music starts)

Oh, Tanya, I see you over there.

I love this cape.

(flamboyantly exclaims)

Lady’s nights are on Thursday,

so, girls, come on down for half of shots.

(flamboyantly exclaims)

And we do a pretty mean brunch

on Sundays with bottomless momo’s.

Delish.

And, I don't want to brag, but I have managed to win

“Best Bar in town” for three years straight now.

And, uh, those cards bring those in

for a free appetizer Monday through Thursday before four.

-Good for you, dear.

But, you know, having a good work

and family life balance is important, too.

Don't you think? Hmm?

-Oh, well, I don't have much of a family life.

No kids.

Surprise, surprise.

(Jimmy laughing)

-Cause he's gay.

-Babe, your ‘dumb-ass’ is showing.

-Plenty of gay men and women have children.

There's no reason he couldn't if he wanted to.

-And, here we go with the child grooming.

(patriotic music continues)

-You know, don't turn anything

I've said into a political rant because I just can't with these parties.

(patriotic music stops)

-So, you're not with either party?

-Oh, I never said that.

All right, I promise I'm not so easy to pin down, Honey.

Plenty of men can back me up on that.

-Libertarian?

-Maybe.

-No way.

-Why can't I be libertarian?

-Because you're-the way you are.

I know a lot of libertarians.

You are not their kind.

-Mmmmm Yes, Mr. World traveler.

(awkward laughter)

Well, that's reductive as shit.

Okay. And, I promise that my values and beliefs would surprise you, sweetie.

(air kiss noise)

Really?

You know. I could see myself having drinks with you.

-Well, come on down to Lucky's.

First one's on me.

-All right.

-Has anyone heard about the town that went completely libertarian and all the bears?

-Is this a gay joke?

-What? No.

It's a true story.

There's a book on it called ‘A Libertarian Walks into a Bear.’

You should check it out.

-So, it is a gay joke.

-It happened in Grafton, New Hampshire.

A group of libertarians took over a small town as sort of a social experiment.

It was called the ‘Free Town Project.’

And, it was a haven for libertarian ideals.

But, this is an already small town, and they slashed their minor yearly budget

by more than half.

-Trim the fat. That's just being fiscally responsible.

Yeah, it sounds nice, right?

Well, with no one maintaining the town.

Potholes started forming that weren't being fixed.

Domestic dispute started to rise and violent crime spiked.

And, then the townspeople had to go without heat.

They had a dream for their ideal town

that quickly turned into a nightmare

because their private sector failed to replace public services.

(ominous drumming)

The town went feral, and that's when all the bears started coming.

At first, they were just hanging out in people's front patios

and yards during broad daylight.

And, then they started eating their chickens and livestock and their pets.

It was mind boggling how the bears became so uncharacteristically

aggressive and indifferent and unafraid.

The conclusion was because of the lack of zoning, sanitation,

and other basic government services, the libertarians were incapable of dealing

with their problem.

So, sure I get it.

Libertarianism sounds great on paper, but not when put into practice.

-Just like communism.

-Sounds like they took the right to bear arms a little too literally.

-Damn.

That's a good one.

Libertarianism is

basically anarchy with a polite facade.

-No. Libertarianism is a social contract with enforcement by a free market

competition on violence.

Anarchy is just a lack of a social contract.

-Well, I never claimed to be a libertarian either.

Just that the possibility is there.

I don't like being put into any one box.

I'm a complex motherfucker.

-Hey, please don't use that language in here.

That's an exceptionally offensive word to God.

-Yes, please.

Thank you, Pete.

-Oh. I'm sorry. Is this God in the room with you right now?

Because I have a few choice words for him

if he is.

-Come on, man. Have some respect. Damn.

What can't you respect another man's religion?

He's not saying you got to believe. Just be polite.

Why is it always that way with you liberals?

-Woah-ho-ho-ho-ho. Fine.

I am a proud gay man and a proud conservative.

And, there are a ton of us.

-Dozens, I'm sure.

-For me, it's all about taxes. Okay?

Simple as that.

-Okay. What about civil rights?

-There are a lot of LGB people who admire the conservative ways.

You would be surprised.

And, uh, we hate shit beer too. Just like you.

And, we make the best mix drinks ever, honey.

-Good for you.

Way to be proud of who you are.

-Thank you.

-Babe, I can see myself being friends with this guy.

(annoyed grunt)

-Excuse me. Luke?

Uh. Or, do you prefer to be called Lucky?

-You call me whatever you want.

-I found it interesting that you used LGB.

-Sorry, I didn't use LGBTQ.

-Actually, the preferred acronym to be more inclusive is LGBTQIA+.

-Oh my god.

-I'm just curious as to why you stopped at B.

-What difference does it make?

-I think a big difference.

Sexuality is such a wide spectrum that includes

lots of different types of people,

and you have to make room at the table to have conversations for trans people

and anyone else who feel their voices aren't being heard.

-Yeah, but why do they all have to be lumped into the same category?

-Oh, so you're deliberately leaving them out of the conversation?

-Look, they are their own group of people who can speak up for themselves.

I am not trans, so I don't feel a need to speak up for them.

-I'm trans. So, what you don't want to be lumped into the same group is me.

It's not a disease you can catch.

-Oh, my dear, I had no idea.

Thank you for sharing that.

Hey, I think it's just great.

-I don't have a problem with you being trans,

but I think they should be two separate communities.

LGB is all about sexuality.

When you start adding all the other letters

and gender identities, the messages get cloudy.

You fight for your rights and I'll fight for mine.

-They're intrinsically linked.

That's why we're grouped together.

We have to all fight to stop the hate and discrimination towards us all.

-Let's just add more letters so that everyone can be included.

Let's just make it LGBTQIA-

W-T-F F-M-L 010011.

-0011?

-We don't want to forget about those who identify as robots.

I mean, this is ridiculous.

-Oh my god, you are such an asshole.

You're no better than them.

-Oh, no. Do not put me in with the Clampetts. Ugh.

No. I mean, w-what are you?

Sponsored by Bud Light.

-I genuinely want to understand why you identify as conservative

when they clearly don't support your lifestyle

and are actively trying to take away your rights as a queer person.

-I will admit,

there are a lot of people on the right who do not agree with my lifestyle,

but I will not get behind the progressive’s approach to our nation's economy.

Capitalism is the definition of the American dream.

No other country has a free market like ours.

-Well that's for sure. Other people aren't

treated like slaves by the CEOs and said the 1%.

-Excuse me.

You really shouldn't interrupt people.

It makes you look ugly.

-Baby, you’re beautiful.

-A market free from strict government regulation breeds healthy competition,

and competition is the best way to make sure that our country stays free.

People use their dollars to keep their companies in check.

-You make our country sound like a two-bit stripper, my guy.

-Money makes the world go round will.

-You will always be considered less than by voting conservative.

-The party is way more accepting of gays than ever before.

(drumming starts)

-Yeah, as long as you don't talk about it openly, right?

Keep everything in the closet.

(drumming continues)

-It is people

like you on the Left that make it so hard for people like me

on the Right to want to be part of your side.

It is so much harder these days to come out as conservative,

especially to other LGB people, than it is to come out as gay.

-Oh my God.

Look here, everybody, look who came out of the political closet.

Good for you.

-Hailey. Stop it!

He-he's sharing something that's very personal to him.

-You need to be open and accepting of his point of view.

-She's right though.

Their party is rolling back groups of people's rights,

undoing all of the civil progress our country has made over the last decade.

Like that.

-Thank you.

-Well, with us being lumped together with them,

our rights are more endangered than they used to be.

-Oh my god, shut up. Seriously!

-Well, It's women's rights too.

Today's women already have less rights than the previous generation

ever since they overturned Roe v Wade.

-Thank God.

Thank God for states’ rights.

-And if you don't think gay marriage will be next, you are fucking delusional.

-Maybe I'm okay with that.

We had all the rights that married couples did with civil unions.

-Oh my god.

-Hey, man. I-I-you know,

I'm glad you're on the Right side and all, but I'll be honest, man, I don't get it.

Like why you do what you do.

It's-

weird. It's strange. It's disgusting, frankly.

It's abomination to God.

-Jimmy, your outfit is an abomination to God.

And weird and strange mean, the exact same thing.

Okay, okay, okay. All right. All right. All right.

He's not an abomination.

Okay?

(patriotic fife music plays)

Look, I-I-I'm about as conservative as they come.

Always have been.

Okay? But, I do see how the Republican leadership

treats people of their persuasion.

Okay?

And I fe-and I feel that if a party wants to be relevant

to future generations, then we need to

embrace the gay community

with

open arms.

-Thanks, Pete.

See, plenty of good people on their side.

-Come on. You’re military.

You know? Don't ask, don't tell. - Yeah

-Why do you care?

-Wha... It’s not copacetic with our values.

-I just

-Oh, wait.

One of your kids go gay?

-Go gay?!

-Was it one of your boys?

It was. Wasn’t it?

Shit, man.

I'm sorry.

That must be embarrassing.

- Hey! - Get his ass, Pete!

-Let him go!

- Let go! - Let him go!

Let's keep this civil!

-Get his ass, Pete!

-Keep politics out of the conversation.

-We can't not talk about politics. It’s happening.

You're an embarrassment

to the Republican Party.

(taunting laugh) - No.

Now, it's people like you to give the party a bad name.

Okay. And, I don't have to like his lifestyle choices,

but that doesn't mean they should be treated any less

than anybody else. Wow.

-Oh man. Wow.

And I'm the embarrassment?

You're just a RINO.

-Pete.

-No. (taunting laugh)

You know. You act all bad and tough.

But, I bet you've never served in the military, have you?

Never even faced any real combat.

You know?

I bet you're one of those...

Gravy Seals.

(Keshawn exclaims)

(laughing)

- Bruh. - You know, dresses up like a soldier

with his buddies and goes into the woods

and does drills for some make pretend war that you think is going to happen.

It's not.

It's people like you

who give gun owners a bad name

when you shoot yourself in the foot

because you don't know how to properly use a firearm.

(laughs)

How many toes you got left?

-Hey, man.

We're on the same side.

It's us versus them.

(foot slam)

You think you know so much about us, tough guy?

All you've done is make assumptions about people.

I bet you can't even remember a single person's name.

Just party you affiliate them with.

-Oh, go off Barbie.

Everybody else is.

-Case in point.

My name is Kelly.

-Isn't Kelly Barbie's little sister's name?

-What? No.

(fife music playing)

(people laugh)

(fife music continues)

(Luke laughs)

-Yes.

Yes it is.

Oh, my god. The little, blonde, baby doll.

(fife music continues)

-Oh, whatever.

My name is Kelly, and I'm a social media influencer.

-Of course you are.

Some of you may have seen my videos

if your algorithm isn't some cozy echo chamber.

I use my platform to help people and promote social and environmental change.

And, I think some of you who lean a little bit more conservative

can appreciate the fact that I'm a self-made entrepreneur.

I know some of y'all are going to call me “woke” like it's some kind of insult, but

I'm fighting for everyone's rights, not just my own interests.

How can we call ourselves the land of the free when we're not all equal?

All we're asking for is that everybody has the same rights

to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Sometimes that means more government.

Sometimes that means less.

-Wait.

So you

want less government?

-In some regards?

Absolutely.

Like the right to religious freedom for everyone

or I don't know, the right to make decisions about my own body.

The government shouldn't be in our bedrooms

or saying that they know more than doctors.

-Right.

So, the government shouldn't be pushing vaccines on me, right?

Because my body, m-my choice.

-A phrase co-opted from the pro-choice movement.

But okay. Yes,

-Except...

your rights end where that baby's begins.

-What rights?

They don't have a Social Security Number, they can't be claimed as dependents,

you can't take out a life insurance policy on them.

How can you say that your rights end?

If the pregnancy endangers the life of the mother,

her rights as an already living, breathing, constitutionally recognized human

come first.

-Listen, have you ever seen a 4D sonogram?

It's beautiful.

The only difference between

a preborn baby and what you would consider alive baby

is location.

Life begins at conception.

And, when you take a life that is called murder.

-They should keep their legs crossed.

(ominous music builds)

-Tanya.

Tanya. There's no consensus.

Even in the church, when life begins.

Now, I'm a Christian, but I believe that in certain cases,

abortions necessary.

And, Kelly is right.

That decision should be between a woman and her doctor.

-You cannot trust doctors.

-No. No.

God has already made the decision to create that life.

Killing a baby is... A fetus.

-Killing a baby is wrong.

I-i-it it goes against God.

And, if you don't want it,

You can give it up for adoption.

-Oh, are you willing to adopt?

Because the foster and adoption systems are overloaded and underfunded.

And they could really use your help.

-I have my own children.

When you have your own children, you will understand.

-And, once you lose a child you desperately wanted to

fatal fetal anomalies, you'll understand.

-I'm pro-life, and I agree with Kelly.

-I know what I am talking about!

-Oh, you've had an abortion.

Haven't you?

(drumming starts)

-Yes.

Yes.

I was young

and I was scared. And, I was stupid.

I was in college, and I knew my parents would never accept it.

-White woman tears.

-Shut up.

-I regret that decision

every single day of my life.

And, I have to do

whatever I can to make sure that no other woman

ever makes my mistake.

-You're not alone, honey.

You're not alone.

You’re not the only one. I lost a baby too.

I’m sorry.

My third pregnancy ended in a miscarriage,

but it required medical intervention.

Otherwise, I would have gone septic.

-I sympathize.

I do.

But, see, you both had that choice.

If something like that happens to me or her

or any woman in this room.

According to our state, we don't have that choice.

-A medical emergency is not a choice.

-Even if it comes from rape.

Or, if you desperately wanted that baby,

it doesn't matter.

-Every. Single. Day.

I think about what my baby, my man would have grown up to be.

The family he would have. Th-

The ripples that one life makes...

-Your guilt can't govern the country.

-You have no idea

what it is like to think about what your child would have grown up to be.

How he could have contributed to the world, and to know,

that you took the chance of life away from him.

It is just wrong.

God would nev-

-You can't use your god to dictate what other people can and can't do

in the eyes of the government.

It's the First Amendment.

Separation of church and state.

Freedom of religion and freedom from religion.

(exclaiming)

-You are a heathenistic brat!

You are all going to Hell!

-Can I say something?

-Has she been here the whole time?

-Sweetie, we are going to be walking out of here

with the hottest tea I've had in a long time.

-’Bout time, she said something.

-People should come before politics.

-Well, I think both sides care about people, right?

-It all comes down to how each side cares about people.

Care to elaborate, miss um?

-Ana.

Hi.

Um.

Well, I see it every day.

I'm a nurse.

And, when there's a bunch of red tape that we have to work around,

we can’t provide the care people need

and people die.

-Agreed. I'm all about small government.

-No government

that tells people what they can and can't do with their bodies is small.

-Ana, I agree with you.

We have to get rid of all the red tape.

We need universal health care.

-How could you want that?

Come on, that's socialism.

(patriotic fife music plays)

You want the government's death panels deciding who lives and who dies?

What about all the tax increases?

You know, and good luck getting in to actually see your doctor.

You’d probably die in the waiting room.

Come on, man.

And, son,

Universal health care will actually kill and

cost more than everyone will have you believe.

-This is already happening in our current system?

The cost of health insurance per month is out of control,

and they can still deny paying out for any arbitrary reason they like.

They are the death panels.

And, it can already take months to see a doctor

due to how fewer people are entering the medical profession

due to the exorbitant cost of medical school.

(music stops)

Cut out the middleman.

Pay a little more in taxes.

Guaranteed health care.

Actually save money.

And, we have got to regulate

the cost of health care.

I'm still paying off the cost of my wife's cancer treatments

three years after she passed.

For treatments that the insurance company tried to deny.

Bunch of bloodsuckers.

-I'm sorry about your wife.

Okay? You don't deserve any of that.

But, the government already steals enough of our money through taxes.

-Oh

But you're okay with the CEOs of insurance companies

making billions... - No

-Off the sick and the dying?

-Look, socialism is a slippery slope, okay?

No, just-just look at Venezuela.

-Damn communists.

-They were once the wealthiest country in South America.

Then when they were taken over by dictators Chavez and Maduro

promising all these social programs which got them elected,

Venezuela nationalized the agricultural sector, robbing

millions and millions of acres of land from rightful owners.

Then the government

realized it was incapable of running these thousands of businesses,

which caused food production to drop by 75%,

while the population increased by 33%.

A-and, then, the country's implementation of its welfare programs

to address illiteracy and-and poverty and health care

was so expensive

it forced them to print more and more money

just to pay for everything, which led to inflation so high

the people couldn't afford to live there anymore.

So, after 20 years of their social experiment,

the only thing that it proved was that free things come at a high price.

-I think your argument, while true, is disingenuous.

You’re leaving out the cronyism, the country's overreliance on oil,

and the corruption in the leadership that led to the country's fall.

There are plenty of countries thriving under democratic socialism.

That's different than dictator led socialism, and that's what we want.

We want to support the working class and the less fortunate.

I mean, even Jesus wasn't socialist.

Stop it.

Do not use the name of my Lord Jesus to promote communism.

-Oh my god.

-Okay, we want that too.

But, people should be able to help themselves.

Okay? If you just hand out things, people are going to be lazy.

-You do know your VA benefits are a socialist program, right?

-Yeah, and I earned those fighting for this country.

You know, nobody wants to work for anything anymore.

-Yes, Pete. Preach.

Love the flannel.

-And...

you've got caravans

of illegals coming to this country taking jobs from real Americans.

Are we supposed to pay for them, too?

-Wow.

-Damn Hispanics.

-You know, my dad's from Mexico.

And, he immigrated here legally

and has been a contributing member of this country ever since.

He worked hard to provide me a better life than the one he had growing up.

And, you... you'd be surprised to find out

he's very conservative.

Not all immigrants are coming here looking for handouts.

Or, are the drug dealers or rapists the media makes them out to be.

We're proud people who would break our backs

to get the best out of life for our families.

Come on.

-It can be very hard to immigrate into this country.

It was for me.

-Where are you from?

-You know me as Roger.

But, my real name is Mohammed.

I-I moved to this country from Liberia as a boy and lived

for many years as Mohammed.

The week after 9/11, I dropped Mohammed.

-Mohammed's a great name.

-So...

I mean, I never knew I mean, we've been neighbors.

And, you've always been Roger.

For, what, nine years?

-Ten.

-And, all those cookouts and dinners over

and you never once bothered to tell me who you really are?

-It doesn't make a difference. I'm still me.

-But, there's a whole layer of deception now.

-How you’re looking at me now?

That's exactly how I've been looked at my whole life in this country.

Whenever people hear my real name or find out that I'm a Muslim.

-Wait a minute, what?!

You're Muslim too?!

And, I thought you were just, like, not religious.

Wh-But, now I come to find out that you believe

in things that actively want to hurt America?

-No. That's not true.

-Your people are terrorists, and they've killed many Americans.

-America's hands aren't clean either my friend.

-An eye for an eye, I guess.

-Don't say things like that.

What has changed?

Nothing.

-You’re just as bad as every other racist in this country.

-I'm not a racist.

-Sure doesn't sound like it.

-His name, his religion, and his skin color

have nothing to do with if he's a good person or not.

It's about who you are on the inside, man.

-Nah. Nah, man.

Pete’s right.

That's the kind of thing their people are doing.

They're coming over here

and they're trying to change our country from a Christian nation to a Muslim one.

-This country was founded on religious freedom.

-This country was founded on Christian values.

Ever heard of ‘In God We Trust?’

-Actually, that wasn't added until the 1950s.

-Christian values are supposed to be inclusive.

Jesus tells us to love everyone.

There are plenty of verses in the New Testament

that command us to ‘love thy neighbor.’

None of them say with conditions. Hmm?

It’s people like you who have turned away from the true meaning of Christ.

And, I don't blame you.

I don't blame you at all.

It's the leaders that have led you astray.

False prophets who stoke fear for profit.

-You got to respect churches’ business game though.

I mean, all that money without having to pay taxes.

I thought about turning a Lucky's into a church.

It was going to be ‘Sippin’ with Jesus on Sundays.’

-Okay, but then they'd go and influence

government policy with their tax free money.

It's a scam.

-That's true. Any church that advocates

for a political party or candidate or policy should have to pay a hefty tax.

-Oh, okay. Okay.

Do any of you believe in God?

-I believe he goes by a different name.

-I don't need religion to know how to be a good person.

-Oh

Okay. So, what do you think happens after you die?

-Religion is good to make the immoral moral and make them believe it's their choice.

These people don't do good things unless they're rewarded for it.

I call them After-lifers.

-After-lifers?

-Yeah.

They believe a life on earth is bad.

Death is good. And, being dead is the best.

- What? - It's honestly a death cult.

-Okay. How can someone with so much knowledge be so ignorant?

-Okay, well, I'd rather spend my time on Earth making it the best that it can be.

-It's also a big reason why many people who are devoutly religious don't care

about protecting the environment.

-Oh, sweet Jesus, I will pray

for the salvation of all of your souls. God.

-Can't convince anybody of anything.

I love God with all my heart.

Religion can be a great thing for the world,

but I can see the other side's point of view too, because I've almost

left the church many times seeing what it's become.

But, I ha-I have to stay.

I have to stay to just love people as the Lord calls us to do.

I love all of you.

All of you.

As God's children. We are all his sheep.

But, some have lost their way.

(gum bubble popping)

-You’re a wolf in sheep's clothing.

-Oh, sweetheart.

I can see, you've got a lot of fear and pain.

What's your name, dear?

(chair squeak)

-I'm Amber.

-That's a pretty name. Who are you, Amber?

-I'm a corrections officer.

-Oof!

No wonder you're so tough.

-Oh, that's a very hard job.

I'm sure it must be physically and emotionally demanding.

But...

who's the real Amber?

Who are you?

Not just your job.

-Well.

I'm pissed off.

I had a tough childhood.

We didn't have a lot of money.

And, my parents were deadbeats.

Dad was around sometimes.

Mom was always there, but she was

high on something.

You may think I'm tough, but it's because I had to be.

I wanted to do better.

I had to do better.

So, I pulled myself out.

By myself.

With nobody to help me.

I was given no advantages. Ever.

-Yeah, but your opportunities

weren't exponentially more limited just because the color of your skin.

-And, this is what I'm talking about.

I get so mad

when people say that I have white privilege.

What? So, my life and my hard work mean nothing because I'm white.

Okay.

You are not the only one that had to struggle.

-I can't even get job interviews.

And, I'm a veteran.

But, being black automatically makes me a thug, right?

-Crime is higher in black neighborhoods.

-I have a lot of African-Americans in my prison.

-Man, I can't even talk to y'all.

I gave six years of my life to the military.

Six years!

Just to be treated like this.

-Please.

Share your experience with us.

-I don't even see the point.

It's not like no one's going to change their ways.

-It never hurts to speak your peace.

-Babe...

Tell them.

-For me, being black

means your whole life is defined by the color of your skin.

By both people who don't like you for it, and those

who go out of their way to prove that they're not racist.

It always comes down to my skin color.

I always have to prove to people who I am, and

I...

am sick of it.

I'm done trying to prove to people that I'm a good man.

I know who I am.

-Honey, I promise. I don't see color.

And, that's how it should be.

-You seem like a nice lady,

but that does not help.

Just sweep it under the rug.

Don't talk about the black experience.

Don't acknowledge the systemic oppression that my people and minorities in general

go through on a daily basis in this country

where we are supposed to be treated free and equally.

Just... just don't talk about it.

-Oh, dear.

That was insensitive.

My apologies.

-S-see? And,

that's just a small taste of what it's like being black in America.

What it's like to be constantly harassed by the police.

-Just don't break the law and you'll be fine.

-What?

Why should my brothers be choked to death over a pack of cigarets.

We're being murdered in the streets

by the very police who are sworn in to protect all of us.

-Well, I've seen those videos. He looked like he was resisting arrest.

(ominous patriotic music starts)

-So, he deserved to die?

Is that what you're saying, Pete?

Huh?

Say something, Pete!

You seen a fuckin’ video?

He was calling for his mama.

Calling for his kids.

He was saying over and over how he couldn't breathe.

And, that pig continued

to press his knee into his neck with no regard for his fucking life.

You seen the fucking video.

Let that would’ve been one of your kids.

Black man, kneeling on your fuckin’ kid’s neck in front of the whole fucking world.

How would you feel? Resisting arrest?

What kind of shit is that?

How are you going to say some shit like that?

You seen the fucking video?

What you talking about?

Resisting arrest?

(ominous drumming)

-Come on, man. Really?

There's just no win with you people.

Yeah, I said “you people.” Just be happy with what you got.

-Yeah.

-Man.

Fuck that.

And, you say you pissed off.

Shit. We've been pissed off and fighting for hundreds of years,

and we will continue to fight for hundreds more.

I've been fighting my whole life.

I fought to graduate high school.

I fought to support my mom and my sisters. Shit.

I joined the Marines and fought for this ungrateful ass country.

And, now, I fight for my rights

just like the many great black men before me.

Change is coming.

You just gonna have to accept it.

Or...

you can leave.

Your choice.

-That was so hot.

-Hey, man.

Uh.

Just wanted to say your experience is really similar to mine.

I mean, I know it's not the same because I'm not black, but,

Uh..

You know, I get treated differently, too.

And, uh...

Oh, I don't mean to say, like, I know what it's like to walk in your shoes,

and we're probably not even the same size.

I mean, we’re definitely not the same size,

but, I mean, look at you.

But, uh..

-Boy You funny as hell.

Listen.

Don't ever let other people make you feel less than.

You're worthy.

Remember that.

-Thanks man.

-You seem like you got a good head on your shoulders, man.

Hey, hey, let me get you a game of tag before you leave, man.

I’m tryin’ to hop on that Call of Duty. I'm a b-beast on a that game, boy.

All right. - All right.

(Keshawn laughs)

-Does anyone else kind of really like lockdown right now?

-I’d like it a lot better

if we could go and vote already.

-I mean, like, what else have we been

able to sit down with all these few points and just talk it out?

-It's a great opportunity for all of us.

-See what can happen when people just sit down and talk without

turn into name-calling and violence.

-Every time I go to vote, I wonder

what the point of views were of the people in line next to me.

Now, we get to find out.

Everyone has such interesting lives.

-Seriously?

Nothing's changed.

We’re just wastin’ our time until they let us out of here.

-No telling we’ll even be able to vote.

-That's right.

And, they're getting way with

stealing another election right in front of us.

-We can't vote either.

-You're here inside.

Y-you'll get a chance to vote. Just trust the process.

-Trust the process?

Come on, Pete.

What process?

I mean, look, I didn't come here to make friends,

hold hands, sing ‘Kumbaya.’

Let's be real here.

We're going to go back to our pathetic lives, hating each other.

-He's right.

-Thanks, Jimmy.

-Hey, that's not true.

-Democrat. (sound of fireworks go off)

-What?

-You're a dumb Democrat.

-Hey, who the fuck you talking to?

-Angry, racist Democrat.

Gender-confused Democrat.

Stray-too-far-from-the-flock Democrat.

Gun-hating Democrat.

-Unfortunately, I didn't vote Democrat. But now I'm wishing I had.

-Yeah, sure you are, Democrat.

Foreign Democrat.

Old-fashioned Republican.

A little too lenient on the gays for my liking, but...

Now, my kind of woman... Republican.

Now, you should be a Democrat,

but get some sense into you, Republican.

I'm hopeful you'll make the right choice

and be Republican, but all that California nonsense.

You know, just don't do it.

And, there's some hope for you yet.

Now... I'm not so sure about you yet.

What? Do you get off people out like that?

-You hick-ass, piece of shit.

-It doesn't get much more political than that.

Are you really going to let him talk to all of us like this?

-How dare you question my faith.

I'm more religious than you'll ever be.

-You make it impossible for peace.

You make it impossible for people to coexist.

-Look how mad they all get. (laughs)

A bunch of snowflakes. (laughs)

-Oh, and it just pisses you all off, doesn’t it? (laughing)

-You don't care about anybody.

You think you're so intimidating with all your guns and you're F-350?

-You’re such a piece of Republican shit?

I bet you wouldn't care if kids died.

-Oh, bless your heart.

(maniacal laughing)

-Hmm.

Worse than a group of drag queens

fighting with the last bottle of glitter.

(yelling)

-Stop! stop.

Everybody stop talking for a second.

(fireworks and music fade out)

This is exactly what he wants.

His raising the temperature.

So, let's just all cool it.

Okay? (deep breath inhale and exhale)

Take a breath.

Before things escalate to a place

there's no coming back from.

All right, now.

Jimmy.

Tell me.

Why do you lash out with such vitriol

for other points of view?

(chair squeak) - You know,

everyone here has had a chance to speak their piece.

But...

not once has any of you asked for me to share.

Now, what is that, huh?

-You shared plenty.

-No, no.

He's right.

-Please.

There's no place for bigots in civil discussions.

-Keshawn, please.

We need to give everyone a chance to speak their piece.

Right?

Please go ahead.

-See and that's what I'm talking about.

(chair legs bang on floor)

It just goes to show that people like me are getting left behind in this world.

Now, I come from generations of men who helped build this country-

- Generations of racists. - To make it the greatest.

Only to be forgotten about.

You know, I didn't go to college.

I didn't serve in the military.

Thank God, I know my way around an engine.

Otherwise, I'd be out on the streets

or in prison or dead in a ditch somewhere.

But...

I know a thing or two

about what's going on here in America.

I come from small town where as a kid, everybody knew everyone.

And, you wouldn't walk down the street without a wave and a smile.

People had jobs.

People had purpose.

Now?

Our small towns are left penniless.

Our young men are dying of opioids.

People are leaving by the truckloads.

There's no more smiles and waves from people on the streets.

Only looks of fear of their country leaving them behind.

And the big cities...

Big cities. They write us small town folk off as a bunch of dumb hicks.

Won't even listen to what we find important.

Well, our opinions matter too. Damn it.

We have values, traditions, morals that are lost on today's youth.

But, we ain't going down without a fight.

I believe we're all serving God's will, even if you don't believe in Him.

He has a purpose for you.

And, there will come a day when we'll be asked to fight in his Holiest of wars

for the soul of this country.

I hope you all answer the call when that day comes.

I know I will.

-Well, thank you for sharing.

Has everybody shared?

-Excuse me.

Uh, can I say something?

Does anybody else hear how crazy this dude sounds?

This dude cannot stand minorities having a spotlight for two seconds.

-While I do agree with you, Keyshawn, I-I do,

He does bring up some valid concerns that this country is facing.

And, in a very poignant way, I might add.

All of these issues are very important

to people on the right side and absolutely need to be addressed.

-Thank you.

-I'm sorry, but is that not a result of your beloved capitalism?

I mean, people go where the jobs are.

So, these big corporations are taking the jobs away

from rural America and shipping them off to these cheaper countries.

And, as automation increases,

it’s only becoming more and more of a problem for these small towns.

Just another way that the Republican policymakers are screwing the average Joe.

-Damn.

That was sexy.

-I'm sorry, but no, you're wrong.

If you cut taxes for corporations, they'll bring manufacturing back

to America, which will then create more jobs in rural communities.

You-You give money to the corporations who will then disperse

it amongst the workforce, creating more jobs.

Hey, Reaganomics 101.

-Reagan. Really?

Don't walk me down that trail unless you want to go on a long hike.

-I am sick and tired of all these libs

constantly whining and foot stomping.

-And, I'm sick of conservatives always clutching their pearls.

-I have spent the last hour hearing each side

spew talking points that you can find right on your party's websites,

But, no one is actually listening to one another.

No one wants to understand the other side.

Except for maybe Ben here,

who is genuinely curious about what each party has to offer.

But you both. You just want to win.

You're all treating politics like it's a team sport.

It's not.

-I don't listen to white supremacists.

-Oh, Bravo.

Black power. Right?

“Yo man, the white man’s bring me down.”

Get over yourself.

-Bringing the extra salt and butter, I can see.

Cute. Everyone, get out your popcorn.

-Whether you like it or not, black lives do matter.

-And, I'm the racist.

All lives matter.

BLM is a racist group.

I puts black people o’er everybody else, and claims that they're

always the victims of pseudo racism.

-Pseudo? That's a big word for you.

-Bitch. Shut up.

Racism is just a convenient thing

that black people use when they don't get their own way.

All right. It's like waving around a magic wand in hopes that they get what they want.

-You two do know that what you're saying right

now is, in fact, extremely racist, right?

-Okay, okay!

Everybody, just calm down now.

-Nah, tell them to shut the fuck up.

-Hey, hey, knock it off, okay?

-Man. Whose side are you on?

They need to know what they say is not cool.

-Shut up, nigger.

-What did you call me?

-Babe, just drop it.

-No, no, no.

-No, no, no.

- Hey. Hey. - What did you... Hey!

You're a soldier, okay?

It's your responsibility not to act out in violence.

-Man. You heard what he called me.

-Be the bigger man.

-Wasn’t talking to you.

-But, it was a reference to me.

So, please share with the class.

-Jimmy, please

acknowledge that what you said is hurtful and offensive to Keshawn.

-All right.

(ominous drumming)

I said...

you...

are...

a...

nigg... Hey!

-Keshawn!

-Oh shit.

-A little help.

- Jimmy! - All right, all right.

Come on, come on, come on. - A little help!

Come on, come on. Break it up!

Break it up. Break it up.

-Naw man, move.

-Come on, man.

-You stupid-(grunting)

-Break it up, guys. Come on.

Come on.

(impact and glass breaking)

-You mother f... Come on, guys, come on.

-They're fighting.

Can you please get in here?

Help! Hurry!

(Jimmy laughs)

-Get down on the ground!

Get down on the ground! Sir!

Sir!

Get down!

-Sir! Why are you pointing a gun at me?

He was fighting too.

Point it at his redneck ass.

(Ben moans in pain)

-Can someone check on him?

- Come on. (Ben continues to moan) - It's okay. It's okay. Let me look.

-Damn, man.

-Looks like neither one of us will be voting today.

(explosion outside)

Radio-”All units, code four at 4730 Crystal Springs Avenue.”

(radio beeps)

-Everybody remain calm!

Stay where you are.

Sir, can you handle this?

-Yes, sir. Yes, yes.

-Yo, yo!

You just gonna leave me handcuffed without locking up this asshole to?!

Wow!

What the fuck?

-You alright?

Just a bump in the head. Are you okay?

- Yes. - What's your name?

- Ben. - How old are you?

- Eighteen. - Eighteen?

-Yeah. Can I get some water?

-Are you sure you can sit?

- Yeah. - Yeah?

- Yeah. - Okay.

-Yeah, I’m good.

-All right. Easy there. Okay?

(live stream begins notification beeps)

-Hi, my patriotic lovelies.

We are still in lockdown at these polls.

We've been in lockdown for over an hour now, and we've not been able

to continue voting. Something seriously F’d up is going on.

Keshawn was just attacked by a racist bigot.

And, of course, the cops arrested him. Oh.

Say ‘Hi’ babe!

-Hey.

-Two guys got in a fight.

But, other than that, nothing's changed.

No, he was scared, but he's fine.

He's fine.

And, hopefully we'll be out of here soon.

-Oh, my god! Thank you guys for a million followers!

-Let's go!

-But, seriously, you guys.

You guys are literally witnessing here

firsthand the turmoil that our country is coming to.

I mean, there's just no words to describe the amount of-

-Slow.

Take a breath.

What's your name again?

-Ben.

And, how old are you again, Ben?

-I’m eighteen.

-All right.

(Ben deeply exhales)

-Yeah. Drink some water. It's fine.

And, then we'll sit down. Are you okay? You sure you're okay?

-Yeah. I know we're hungry.

Cameron was saying he wanted pizza so I can-

Yeah. I’ll pick up the, uh, the pineapple and pepperoni.

Oh, he'll be happy.

He'll be happy with that.

You-(phone signal failing) Hello?

(inaudible voice on phone cuts out)

-What is this world coming to, you guys?

Oh, what the hell?

I lost phone signal.

What the F-, you guys?

-No luck here either.

-What do you think is going on out there?

-I don't know, but it can't be good.

- Do you want to sit down? - How's he doing?

-Can I sit down?

-He wants to sit down.

- Okay. - We’re just gonna-

-We're lucky to have a nurse.

You know what? Oh my God.

- Oh. Oh! - Ben. Ben. Careful Ben.

-Ohhh -Ben, careful. He's having a seizure.

Can someone call 9-1-1?

-Yes, yes.

- Okay. - Of course.

- What do we do? - I just have to-

-The phone’s not working.

-We just have to let him ride it out. Okay. Come on, Ben.

All right. - There’s no signal.

-What?

-Someone call 9-1-1.

- Ben! - We’re trying!

-Do something!

-The phone’s are out!

-Okay, everybody.

Space. Please. Everybody. It’s too much.

Come on, Ben. Let him ride it out.

-It's okay, it's okay.

It's gonna be okay.

-Try 9-1-1.

Keep trying.

Keep trying. Again. - We’re trying.

(power shuts off)

(scared yelling)

-Calm down. Calm down, everybody.

-No no no.

(phone flashlight clicks on) No no no!

Ben. Ben!

Ben, please. Come on, come on. Ben.

Stay with us, Ben.

Come on.

(sound of heart beating)

Ben, please.

Come on, Ben. Come on.

-Oh my god. This can’t be happening.

-Oh my God.

-Ana, say something. Is he breathing?

(heart stops beating)

-He’s gone.

-Oh, what?

-How? How? He just-

-He just hit his head, right? And-

And, now he's dead?

-Good Heavens. (Hailey crying)

- Come on. - He's just a kid.

- I know. - I couldn’t help him.

-You did all you could do.

(Ana cries) It's beyond our control.

(Ana crying)

It’s okay. Come on.

-Oh god. He's just a kid.

-You did everything you could.

You did everything you... I'm sorry, Ben.

I'm sorry.

-It's all right. It's beyond our control.

It's beyond our control.

It's going to be okay.

It’s gonna be okay.

It's going to be all right.

It’s all right.

(Keshawn strains)

-Fuuuck!

Look what you did, man.

-He didn't do shit.

-No, no. You threw the first punch, amigo. Makes it your fault.

-Get the fuck outta here, man.

-If you weren't such a racist piece of shit.

-He threw the first punch.

-That's right.

-Would you do something? (inaudible yelling)

-No, no, no, no, no. You threw the first punch.

Exactly.

Keshawn did throw the first punch. All right? He's military.

He should have held restraint.

-What are you talking about? A kid is dead.

What is wrong with you?

-We all saw. He was obviously trying to get Keshawn to hit first.

-You know what you was doing. (Hailey crying)

-Some people are-

-What the fuck are you talking about?

Get me out of these cuffs, dawg.

-Well, thank God they’re on.

-Look. The police are going to get here.

They're going to want to know what happened.

All right? We sh-we need to tell the exact story.

-There's a hell of a lot more to it than that.

I know I saw Jimmy shove Ben causing him to hit his head.

-You had to go and make this a whole thing. And, now, a boy is dead.

-Just get this situation under control.

-You know what? I’m getting fed up with

telling me what I need to be doing.

All right.

I'm in charge of this polling station.

All right? You got it?

(Roger mockingly laughing) - Do I got it?

How's that going for you so far, pal?

(Luke yells)

(emergency lights kick on)

-All right.

Enough.

No more political talk. No more religion.

No more talking. Period.

All right? Y-you-

You've got an innocent kid killed today, for Christ's sakes.

From now on, you're going to sit quietly.

You're not going to say a word.

Does everybody understand that?

-You’re lucky I’ve got these on.

I’ll beat the red off your neck.

-Come on, man. I’d like to see you try, boy. Come on.

Come on. I’ll whoop you worse than your ancestors.

-Baby killers? We are not baby killers.

We care about people and their right! - That’s just how you people think.

(inaudible yelling) Straight people put us and trans people into

into the same category and I hate it!

-How dare you call yourself a Christian! (music starts)

-You are filled with so much hate. (more yelling)

“Amazing grace” (yelling in background)

“how sweet the sound” (yelling in background)

“that saved a wretch like me.” (yelling in background)

“I once was lost”

“but now I’m found.”

“Was blind, but now, I see.”

“Now, I see.”

(ominous music continues playing)

(eerie woman’s voice sings)

(everyone yells)

-You're all evil.

None of you should even have the right to vote!

-Okay. Just-just put the gun down.

-They’re are taking everything that is great about this country and-

-And what?

-And...

-Just trying to make it a little bit more fair?

- Ain't nothing fair about our life. - Everywhere we go, people look at us with

With hatred for our faith.

For our values.

This country is so twisted

because of people like you! (yelling in fear)

-No, no, no, no, no.

-That it's more okay to be like,

whatever you are than it is to be a Christian.

-No, no.

-I mean, what even are you, anyways?

Are you male or female?

I guess it depends on the day.

-How dare you talk to another human being like that?

-And, you?

You call yourself a Christian?!

-Put the gun down. (Hailey crying)

-Amber. Please.

Would Jesus ever use a gun on another person?

(loud gun shot)

(everyone yells)

-Where? Where is it? Where is it?

-Oh my god. Betty. No.

(Keshawn yelling in pain)

(Amber crying)

-Holy shit, baby. You actually shot him.

-I’ve never shot anyone before.

(gun shot)

-Oh shit.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.

Oh, shit. Oh, shit.

Baby?!

What the fuck?

-Get down on the ground! All of you!

(yelling)

Now! Get down on the ground!

You get away from the body!

I'm not going to tell you again.

Get away from the body!

Is she dead?

Can someone check if she's dead?

-I'm a nurse. I-I can check.

-Go.

Things are getting out of control.

All over the city.

All over the country.

Because of people like you.

This is just an election.

-Shes’ dead.

-Um...

I got a 1033.

Shots fired.

I need immediate assistance to 1110 Sumter Avenue.

Uh... Shots fired.

Shooter is down.

We have one man shot on the ground.

He's alive. Uh... - There's another boy who

died from a seizure over there.

-Multiple casualties.

Send all units and Emergency assistance to-

(gun shot)

(everyone yelling)

Officer down.

Send all units!

No, no, no. Please.

No, no, no, no... - You killed my wife.

-Help!

No, no, no, no. Don’t!

(gun shot)

(gun shot)

(gun shot)

(yelling in fear)

-What did you do?

-All right.

You heard him.

It's happening all over the country. This is it.

- This is the start. - No.

-S-s-stop. stop.

-No. He killed a cop.

(door locks)

- Pete. - He’s defending his ground.

-He murdered a cop.

-Defending himself.

-He just lost his wife.

-What are you saying?

-This is our time.

This is our time to rise up and take this country back.

You with me?

(eerie fife music plays)

-Don't do it.

(drumming starts)

-I love this country.

And, things have gotten out of control for far too long.

M-maybe now's the time to take it back.
