Episode 16 So? What's your reason for telling me this?

What changes if Royal Consort Sook is my mother?

You still don't know?

Baek Dae Gil, you are not Baek Man Geum's child.

What in the world...

The current king. Your father is not Baek Man Geum.

It's the current king.

This nation's monarch.

The monarch is my father?

Father?

What happened?

How did it become like this?

Have you forgotten?

My relationship with you ended on that night.

It's not over!

How can you start and end it on your terms alone?

I have now just found my path.

Is killing people

your path?

Making sure that there aren't any more injust actions

So that none is cornered and trampled again.

Getting rid of all the evil people in this world, this is my work.

How

did this happen? Who made you like this?

You're the one made me this way.

What?

Are you crazy? How can you say my father's the king?

It's the truth. You are Yeong Soo, the 6-month premature baby who was kicked out of the palace.

That's your real name.

Then, what does that make my father, Baek Man Geum?

Don't test my patience.

The prince named Yeong Soo born in the year of Gyeyu (1693) on the 6th day of the 10th month became ill and died.

That is how it's recorded in the Royal Secretariat's journal, so it is not to be doubted.

[ Seungjeongwon Ilgi - Joseon Royal Secretariat's Diaries ]

That night, if I hadn't met you,

I wouldn't have known it was my teacher who killed my father.

If I hadn't met you that night, I would have died and disappeared.

I wouldn't have been shaken either.

How can there be such faulty logic?

Then, how can you wear such an expression

in front of a murderer?

If we meet again,

I will arrest you and pin your crime.

If we meet again, please arrest me without faltering.

At that time, the man I once served as my teacher,

he will be gone and dead as well.

Seol Im! Our Seol Im is here. How are you? Are you hurt?

Grandpa, were you worried?

Don't even speak of it. Dae Gil was dragged to the police bureau.

Gramps, about Dae Gil. He caught Dog Blade and shed his wrongful accusation.

Is that true?

- Of course.- Aigo.

That's a relief. Such a relief!

But, your face doesn't look good.

I am a gambler indeed.

But I'm quite the master among face readers as well.

Who ever said such thing as you having the fate of the Grand White Tiger Kill?

Grand White Tiger Kill: most inauspicious fate courting savagery deaths to those around.

Though you are talented, your face courts a peach evil (of lust).

What?

Rather than the evils of lust, perhaps it's the Grand White Tiger Kill.

That mean wench Mother Hwanggu played a joke on you to put a nail in a tender heart.

That rotten wench.

What?

Some stagehorse evil or some peach evil.

Those talks exist in the pillars of fate but they cannot be read by physiognomy.

Actually, our Seol Im has quite a nice countenance.

Are you telling the truth?

Of course. Though your countenance isn't as good as our Dae Gil's.

Still, it's a countenance that does not lack anywhere.

What about Dae Gil's?

He has the face to become a king. The monarch!

What?

Want to know why? Oh, but why is that rascal taking so long?

Born from the same womb, hence you and Prince Yeoning are brothers.

Hyungnim. (Brother)

Raise your head.

That person is my biological father?

You've shed the wrongful accusation,

but the promise of returning by the hour of Hae was not kept.

The criminal you had to catch alive... You made him even die.

So the two of you will have to pay for that consequence.

What will you do? Will you receive the punishment or listen to me?

Please cast your order, Your Majesty.

Lee In Jwa met that traitor from Jeong clan, did you say?

Then, what do you think would happen? What do you think you would need to do?

You two go capture Lee In jwa.

Father,

Last time, when an assassin intruded and you knew Lee In Jwa's provocation

but you did not do any action.

It was not the right time then.

He already lost at the moment he sent the inexperienced girl named Dam Seo.

But, it's different now.

Dog Blade is dead and Lee In Jwa also knows the identity of the mastermind with the name Jeong.

So he has ample energy now.

One should not show its ferocious canine teeth easily to a beast with horn.

That is a logic of the world.

But what will happen when that horn continues to grow?

If a tiger lets his guards off and gets slugged by those horns, in order to not die...

What needs to be done?

Bite it, pull it, and rip it apart to get rid of that horn.

Right now... that time has come.

How much did you hear?

All of it. I heard everything.

If you heard everything, then...

Hyungnim... that I'm your hyungnim.

Even so, I can't call you Hyungnim.

This is the palace, and I am the Prince by birth.

Are you alright? Have you been freed from the false charges?Royal Consort Sook of the Choi Clan

Is this truly

Mo... Mother.

I'm sorry.

I should have found you sooner.

Please forgive me.

Your foolish mother... please forgive your foolish mother.

It's still... very confusing.

At another time... I will come see you again.

Why didn't you answer?

Didn't Mother ask for forgiveness?

When you don't know what's going on, you shouldn't be demanding.

The mother that I thought was dead is alive.

And the brother that knew the truth kept his mouth shut.

That is... that is... because I wasn't prepared to accept it yet.

I feel the same way.

If Your Highness feels that way about gaining a hyung,

then how do you think I feel about gaining Your Highness brother and mother?

I need time, and a lot of it.

Where are you going?

A personal matter is a personal matter but a royal command is a royal command.

A clansman of Jeong will annihilate the Joseon of Lee.

That can't be. Not as long as I, Lee In Jwa, am here.

Jeonggamnok (Records of Jeonggam).

My Liege, two eunuchs that guard the king have gone missing since yesterday.

But I've been told they have entered the palace with accompanying Kim Che Geon just now.

Eunuchs brought Kim Che Geon?

So the king has secretly summoned Kim Che Geon. The king has.

Lee In Jwa, meeting like this won't benefit either of us.

If the two of us meet, then the present king will draw his sword.

If he knows I and the Jeong clansman are in contact...

The present king won't stay still.

Has the king already drawn his sword? Has there been any word from Mother Hwanggu, yet?

Hurry.

The king.

The king is going to draw his sword.

I will mobilize at my will and Mu Myeong, you confirm the movements of the police bureau.

And go to Wolhyanggak to check on the development of the various ministers.

Yes, My Liege.

Boss Hong, do you know where Baek Dae Gil's house is?

It won't be that hard to find it.

Watch closely Baek Dae Gil's house. See if there is any suspicious activity.

Will do.

That tiger brother is back?

- Then I should ...- Warrior Hwang.

You have someone else to meet.

Oh my.

Hey, he's coming.

So, things went well? How did it go?

I owe my life to you again. Thank you.

Ah, I'm hungry.

Oh, you're hungry? I'll get it ready in a moment.

Why aren't you eating? You're just going to watch?

We already ate a lot.

Just how much did you eat?

Normally, in a relationship between a man and a woman,

before you fart, you belch first.

Next time, you should just fart as well.

Oh, Grandfather!

I know you're happy to see me, but do you have to fling the spoon before I even sit down?

You should serve food at the dinner table, isn't that right?

Master!

Every time you wrap something up, another spoon is added.

So this person is

You mean he is the master who made you mature?

- Yes. He fed me, gave the place to sleep, saved me, and... - cooked for you.

Cook... No, that's not it.

Eat slowly! You look like you are eating the white rice for the first time in your life.

It's right for the first time. Since you went down, it's the first time.

It's bothersome. You had to cook the rice and make the side dishes.

Then, what have you eaten?

Well... Fish, rabbit...

something like that...

Master. If you don't have a place to go, you may live with us together.

Please do so. I'll cook the warm meals every day.

No, thanks. Hey, I have a house and wife and kids so don't worry about me.

By the way, you punk, you're really fast.

As soon as you came down the mountain, you just got a girl first.

It's not like that.

Because our Dae Gil is really handsome,

even women from 10 ri (about 2.5 miles) away would know it somehow.

I'm telling that's not it.

What do you mean that's not it? It looks like that's it.

Why did you hit me?

Because you deserve being hit so you got hit.

By the way, it's really delicious.

- Is it delicious? - Yeah. It is.

If Kim Che Geon came back, I'm sure he'd look for Baek Dae Gil first.

Watch carefully if there is any slight suspicion in them.

I don't see any suspicious sign.

Make yourself familiar with the face of man named Kim Jeong Yeol and his house.

Make sure to be cautious to avoid being seen.

What's a matter?

It's just my unnecessary mistake.

Then, I'm leaving.

Excuse me.

Has Mother Hwanggu come back yet?

She left a while ago.

Has she come back yet?

My Liege, there is no sign of movements at all.

There is no sign of movement at all?

Yes.

How about your side?

Well, they were eating, laughing, talking... They looked like having a good time.

Is it the rosebay flower? It's really pretty.

We also call it azalea.

There is a legend that, after the emperor of Qing Dynasty lost his country by his ministers' treason,

he turned into a little cuckoo bird.

So, this azalea also symbolizes the king's tears of blood.

Are you planning on making him shed tears of blood?

The wine made with the azaleas atop Mount Mokmyeon

is indeed like none other.

I will invite you over sometime.

Warrior Hwang, did you check the man named Kim Jeong Yeol's movements?

That man looks feeling unwell.

Do you have to pluck such a man's neck once for all?

That man is the very traitor Jeong who'd ruin the Lee dynasty.

If that man stabs me in the back,

you... slash his neck.

But, if Jeong Hee Ryang holds my hand tonight

right away tomorrow,

this Joseon will be upside down.

At the hour of Sul ( 7pm - 9pm) when the azalea wine is being made,

follow the scent of flowers.

The way to come here was very good.

Why are you standing like this?

Ah, I think I got lost and came to a wrong house.

No.

You came to the right place.

Lee In Jwa! You... are over now.

You two go capture Lee In jwa.

Your Majesty. May I speak one word?

What is it?

I seemed like I met the traitor Jeong.

Two of them met and seemed to agree a secret meeting.

So?

Since they are very shrewd,

if we approach them after letting their guards off,

we can capture Lee In Jwa and Jeong as well.

Also, except Your Majesty, Prince Yeoning, Eunuchs and me,

none should know this fact.

I'm not sure if the traitor Jeong escaped shrewdly,

Lee In Jwa, you... are over now.

Your Majesty, we failed to capture the traitor Jeong.

But we arrested Lee In Jwa and his ring.

How did his face look?

I mean his stares.

Did he keep his composure?

Once I look at you in there, I feel somehow bad.

I don't need your sympathy.

So, enjoy yourself.

Right. As soon as the sun rises, you criminal interrogation will start.

Anything you'd like to say in advance?

Your Highness.

What exactly are the crimes you have us imprisoned for?

Actually, I may have to stay up all night for that cause.

Since the crimes are not just one or two.

You suit this place well.

Then, see you tomorrow.

My life was back from the dead anyway.

I'll just sleep here.

My Liege, what happens now?

Don't worry.

Even if the skies collapse, there will be a hole left.

Don't let. your guards down. That Hwang Jin Gi,

can burst out of here if he wanted to.

That won't happen.

Lee In Jwa has not given up.

If he leaves like this, he will lose everything inevitably.

He will not leave this place unless he's released on an innocent verdict.

A day like today, I'd like to have a cup of wine.

But I have many matters to tend to tomorrow morning.

We'll meet again then.

You've finally put that Lee In Jwa who's caused you to grind your teeth every night in jail.

Do you feel more relaxed?

I think what you said was true, Master.

If life's goal was simply a revenge against him,

it would have been too lonely.

Due to the heart feeling so empty.

But, Master...

you knew it all from the start, right?

About what?

Me. Who I am.

You resemble him.

You resemble that someone I know.

Is that important?

As I taught you, if there's one thing I realized,

it's that you are

someone even without me,

would have come to this somehow.

That's enough so don't worry about it.

Since nothing will change anyway.

Father...

I am doing a good job, right?

Sister!

Lord Lee In Jwa was captured.

Your Highness, Lee In Jwa was arrested and has been imprisoned.

Lee In Jwa was arrested?

What was the crime?

Crime of treason.

The king is mobilizing personally.

Hwang Jin Gi who once worked in the Office of Declaration.

For the crime of royal prison escape and attempted murder,

interference with a government official in the execution of his duties.

Mu Myeong of lowest class origin with 9th junior ranking as a Nangcheong officer.

Crime of murder by poisoning and intimidation and blackmail.

Mother Hwanggu.

True name as Jeong Yong Seon. Bribery and conspiracy.

And...

Lee In Jwa.

Your Highness, if a crime becomes real just by your sticking some crime name to it,

how will the people of this nation survive?

You committed too many crimes.

So I've made a special preparation.

First, crime of murder and murder instigation.

Second, crime of bribery assignment.

Third, crime of moral violation

and delusion to the world and deception to the people.

Fourth, crime of contempt to foundation of state (heir to throne).

Fifth...

crime of plotting treason

with the traitor of Jeongchoong Year.

How is it?

The subject is missing. Only names of crime.

Would you give me a chance to counter-argue

against those charges of crime?

Go ahead and say your counter-argue if you have them.

First, the crime of murder and murder instigation.

Chief of chartered merchants, Swindler Golsa and Dog Blade.

That I killed them,

or that I commissioned their murders. Have you the proof?

Second. Bribery assignment.

In bribery, if someone gives it, someone receives it.

So someone gave a bribe,

and where in the world is the one who received the bribe?

Third.

Moral violation and delusion to the world and deception to the people, did you say?

Those who gamble, those who smoke, those who drink.

If those become absent,

then the gambling dens, the wine, and the tobacco will disappear.

Have a look outside.

You can pin anyone with that crime besides just me.

Fourth. Foundation of state (heir to throne)?

I committed contempt against the Crown Prince?

His Royal Highness and I go way back.

He is my disciple in baduk.

What exactly is the crime of me listening to his worries?

Your attempt to meet the traitor of clansman Jeong.

How do you explain that?

I tried to find the man who stirred a treason some 20 years ago.

And hand his head to His Majesty was my intention actually.

But thanks to your arresting of me,.

I lost my golden opportunity, didn't I?

What did you say?!

You.

What's with the useless yakking?

Huh?

Long time no see, baduk teacher.

I am deeply embarrassed of my appearance, Your Majesty.

Who is it?

That traitor of Jeong clan.

Jeong Nam Sok. Jeong Joong Taek. Jeong Hyeon Seok.

Jeong Seok Ho, Jeong Gwon Yu, Jeong Seung Gyu.

Jeong Hae Soo, Jeong Yeong Cheol.

If we should call out all the Jeong's across the eight provinces, it will take all night.

Would you still like to hear it, Your Majesty?

On midday in two days, have this man killed by dismemberment.

Your Majesty, but what about the royal interrogation?

Royal interrogation? What is the use of the likes of that on a traitor?

You're finished.

Treason?

Then, it isn't?

Lee In Jwa made contact with that grand traitor Jeong.

Even that alone makes him a grand traitor.

But to say it isn't a treason?

Why, are you complicit in Lee In Jwa's activities?

It isn't treason, of course.

What did you just say?

Your Majesty, what happened overnight was not treason by final means.

Where in the world is a treason absent of swords drawn?

Did that man pull out a sword?

You're...

able to say that after seeing this painting?

Though it's not that I don't know the meaning of that painting, it is really only a painting.

Though an ill-intent is there, we are not to know who painted it.

Why, you're...

What are you doing right now!

Whether it's a treason or not, how is that so important?

I cast the order. I did!

You should be out looking for the traitor Jeong

but see that pitiful way you talk!

The offenders will be beheaded in two days at the noon hour (11:00 - 1:00 pm).

You guys mobilize wittingly or else you will not be spared.

Did you comprehend that?

Yes, Your Majesty.

Hwon.

Yes, Royal Father.

Hwon, massage my shoulders.

Prince Yeonryeong (Lee Hwon, Sukjong's 6th son)Yes.

Royal Father.

But what's the identity of that man called Baek Dae Gil?

How did you find out?

Everyone's speaking rampantly about him.

Is that so?

As I heard, he seems to be a gambler, but some say he's Kim Che Geon's disciple too.

And yesterday he arrested the traitor Lee In Jwa.

That's really nothing so you needn't worry about it.

Yes, Royal Father.

I heard the news from overnight.

It's your lot. This, the Sangju gambling den and Busanpo gambling den.

And this is Jeolla Province, Gwangju.

This, Choongcheong Province.

I'll ask you for the funds as they become needed. You manage the rest, Yeon Hwa.

Alright. We'll do that.

I'm sorry.

For misunderstanding you as the one that killed my father and for despising you.

It's all in the past. Forget them.

Thank you. I'll repay this favor slowly.

What's the reason?

What do you mean?

Your putting out your hand to Lee In Jwa.

I was only speaking up out of fear that the truth would be disdained.

And not the case of you clutching onto Lee In Jwa's hand which he stretched out to you?

An affluence of greed will court calamity.

And how have you, who speak of such, not been able to shed your affluence of greed?

Shall we speak more frankly?

The crown prince has no heir nor is his health well.

However, do you wonder why I have chosen him over you?

I will not watch the plight of a water maid's child seated on the royal throne.

I cannot bear to see such lowborns soil the royal court.

Are you finished?

I have not spoken wrong though.

Then, I shall...

In two days, was it?

Your Highness, I am fine like this,

but how is it that you're looking nearly dead?

Thankfully, before my life is up, I will be able to witness it.

The image of your head dropping.

Your Highness, I do not see your life longer than mine, actually.

Your Highness, do you have the time to spend that short life of yours in this vain?

Why in vain?

To see you locked up in jail like this, I feel as though my ailment is healed.

I will walk out of here alive.

So you wench can watch from the afterlife.

Your two sons waging their swords at each other's hearts.

I will surely make that happen.

Lee In Jwa,

you are really worse than a beast.

My sons are not animals. They have human bloods.

Mark my words. With a smiling face, I will watch your head go flying.

Will see about that, Your Highness.

You.

What do you want?

Get me some paper and ink with writing brush.

If I'm not careful, I can lose my life.

I'll give you 1,000 nyangs.

Since everything is chaotic, for the time being, don't accept any customers, understood?

Yes, Ma'am.

Noonim! (Older sister)

What is it?

I was told that if I delivered this letter that I would get 1,000 nyangs.

Why did you shield him?

When you are someone who's not been affiliated with Lee In Jwa.

We are all Soron, so would my inkling be different than yours?

I just held a different sword.

But why then...

Yi-Yi-Je-Yi.

Attack the barbarian with a barbarian?

Weren't you ministers wanting to cut off ties with Lee In Jwa as well?

That man is always overweening so it is not a thought unconsidered.

Hence, I have gathered you here today.

If I can survive from here, I will give you my everything.

I will give you the sword in my grasp to you.

Is it a knife sharper than you?

Jeongchoong Year, the head of the revolt, Master Jeong.

Lee In Jwa is no longer with hope.

Then?

A dull knife should be thrown away for a new knife.

These were prepared by Lord Lee In Jwa.

I have some very regrettable news to you, My Lord.

The situation has it that not only will the gold nuggets not work, not even the grandpa of all gold nuggets will do.

Even if I push enough money for them to live well the rest of their lives on.

My, isn't this Yeon Hwa.

You've worked hard.

Have you been well?

Everyone's turning their heads not wanting to be involved.

I wasn't going to say this too.

But since I need to live too, I'm going to have to take it back.

My gambling den.

So Boss Hong Mae turned her back on you too?

How fascinating. Now that I am in jail,

it's become quite easy to decipher which cards should be trashed and which are to keep.

Hey! Where are you going?

Before Lee In Jwa dies, I have something to ask him.

Ask what now?

My father. Why he killed him.

Yeon Hwa, why are you here?

From now on, we'll be seeing each other often in this house.

Don't cause trouble and come back after seeing his fae only.

But you guys are too much. How is it that no one besides me works in this house?

At least get some food for me or something.

In this house, you take it,

and find the food and that's the owner of the food.

No one excepts you works, you said? Why you little young rascal.

I'm entering the palace starting tomorrow.

Entering the palace?

Like you said, I need to work too, right?

Good. One less to feed.

You're here.

How does it feel?

So, you still haven't had any change of mind?

I'm the one who put you locked up in here. Why are we asking about the likes of that again?

Consort Sook abandoned you and your younger brother was born a prince and lives in luxury. Don't you feel wronged?

Look here, Lee In Jwa.

Even if you talk a hundred or a thousand times, I have no desire to be on your side whatsoever.

So you came to bid me farewell?

If I could, I'd love to curse your head off.

But I've grown some sense too now.

Wouldn't I have a hidden card?

I don't know what you're trying to scheme now.

He's alive.

Your father, Baek Man Geum is alive.

Why?

Because your head's about to drop, you're getting desperate?

Go and confirm it.

With your two eyes, personally confirm Baek Man Geum's corpse.

You should hurry. One more day and I'll be dead and gone too.

So your father, Baek Man Geum, you'll never find either.

Hey, kid! What the heck are you doing?

He's gone crazy.

That rascal is doing this to his father's tomb. This is bad.

Don't lie. You think I'd be tricked again?

Now you also know it, right?

Only I was sincere with you.

The one who truly wished for you to overcome your fate and to become a great tiger

is none other than me, Lee In Jwa.

Save me. Then I will have you meet your father Baek Man Geum.

Hey, kid! What is this you're doing!

Are you crazy?

Baek Dae Gil, only you can save me.

Save me.

Save this Lee In Jwa, I said.
