Tell me. Why did I tell you to take care of this flower?

I...

You wanted me to find the murderer quickly.

Since you understand, then you must know

that the one who decides if the flowers live or die is not the flower itself, but me.

Then tell me. I flogged you a few days ago and told you to reflect upon that.

Did you figure out how to investigate Princess Shuncheng's murder?

If you didn't think of anything, I have an idea for you.

Right now, other than the murderer, no one knows that the princess died of poisoning.

The simplest way is

for you to become the bait to lure the snake out.

I want you to spread the rumor that the princess died of poisoning,

but the culprit hasn't been found.

And you were tasked with investigating this matter throughout the manor.

This will get the attention of the culprit and scare him.

They will then want to...

Get rid of me...

How about it?

Commander! Commander, please spare me! I know I was wrong!

I don't want to die yet! Please spare my life!

You won't do it?

Fine! I won't force you then either.

Commander, please spare me!

I know I was wrong! Please don't torture it anymore.

It's just a plant. What good does it do to torture it?

I said, as long as the flower's alive, you're alive.

When the flower withers, you must die.

Let me send you to your mistress earlier.

Commander, please spare my life!

Commander, if you want to torture something, please torture me!

No, no! Let me torture myself.

I'll hit myself. It's all my fault. It's all my fault.

Please don't pick at it anymore. If you pick at it some more, it really will die!

Will you be the bait or not?

I agree! I agree!

I will...

Since you volunteered to be bait,

then hurry up and do it. I'll wait for good news from you.

I will go now.

I'll take my leave.

The female servants serving wine at the banquet have all been questioned.

On the day of the banquet, the wine passed through many hands.

When the poison entered the wine, it couldn't be determined anymore.

The culprit dared to do something at the banquet,

must be because they wanted there to be a lot of people.

We don't have a place to begin our investigation.

Older Brother, I still have one thing I don't understand.

What?

I heard from Sheng Anhuai that you let the doctor serving Princess Shuncheng investigate this matter.

However, you also suspect that the doctor to be the culprit.

I can't figure out what you want to do here.

No matter if he intentionally assisted the murderer or unintentionally became an accomplice,

the culprit borrowed his hands to kill the princess.

Now, he's deliberately trying to find the culprit in the manor.

If you were the murderer, wouldn't you be in a hurry to kill him?

He's in the light, we're in the dark.

If the fish catches the bait, then we can definitely catch the fish.

However, the life of that doctor...

Tian Qi, even if he's not the real murderer,

he still indirectly caused the death of the princess.

I'm sacrificing him to find the true culprit.

On one hand, I can give an answer to the emperor.

On the other, it will prove that he's very loyal.

In time, I will give him a glorious funeral and generously compensate his family.

What? Are you grieving over a little doctor you have never met?

Older Brother, you are a person who does great things, so you must have thought it through.

However, even though I've never met this doctor,

but if he really is an innocent bystander,

I hope you will spare his life.

Okay.

After so many years, you haven't changed one bit. It's good.

Older Brother, if you don't have anything else, I will take my leave.

[Commander's Manor]

[Painted Beams Pavilion]

Commander, please don't be sad.

However, because you and the princess were never actually married,

in a couple of days, the princess' family will take her back for funeral rites.

Thank you for telling me.

Right now, all the ministers are writing

to ask the emperor to find the murderer.

The emperor is helpless, so he asked me to stop by.

We hope the commander can find the culprit within one month

in order to placate these troublesome mouths.

Thank you, Head Eunuch, for stopping by.

Even if the emperor didn't ask, I will definitely find the culprit

to bring peace to Princess Shuncheng's spirit.

Then, the one-month deadline...

Please help me deliver my message.

I hereby promise. Before a month is over, no matter who the culprit is,

I will make them pay with their life.

The emperor need not be troubled by the matters at Ji Manor one bit.

Then I am assured.

I'll return with this message for the emperor.

Sheng Anhuai, please escort Eunuch Zhuang out.

Yes. Please, Eunuch Zhuang.

One month.

Looks like I must force them harder.

Madam Shu,

I toast you.

Madam Shu, have you heard some rumors lately?

Are you talking about the rumors that Princess Shuncheng did not die by accident,

but by murder?

I have heard about this.

Not only this, the imperial doctor who came as part of her dowry is trying to investigate.

He went to Cousin's place and got a beating in order to get the chance to investigate her death.

To think that there's someone so evil in the manor...

I can't sleep peacefully at night.

I'm afraid their next target might be me.

Madam Shu shouldn't need to worry.

The evildoer targeted Princess Shuncheng

because there was a clear gain in that.

There's nothing to gain from targeting you.

If that is so, then I can be at ease.

However, you said there's a clear gain.

What is there to gain from killing Princess Shuncheng?

That evildoer must want to ruin Cousin.

If Princess Shuncheng dies, the emperor will be mad at Cousin and give him a hard time.

Madam, why do you look at my little sister like that?

I was just thinking that your little sister's crush on the commander is known to everyone.

If there really is a gain, then the miss' gain...

Madam Shu, please do not wrongly accuse me!

How could I hurt my cousin for my own gain?

Ning'er, don't be rude.

Brother, she defamed me first!

Apologies, Young Master. I misspoke.

I did not mean it that way.

Madam Shu, please don't be upset by my sister.

She's been spoiled from birth.

However, Ning'er is very innocent and kind.

This kind of evil thing is not something she'd be able to do.

That's true.

I will go check on my sister.

Timing and Subtitles brought you by the Cutie-Patootie Team @viki.com

Madam has entered the manor for a while now.

When Uncle suddenly passed away that year,

he didn't leave any sons or daughters for you.

If it were someone else,

they definitely wouldn't have been able to endure it.

But Madame Shu is still living well.

I would like to know what faith you relied on to continue to live?

Based on what you said,

my unfortunate life was saved by the old Master Ji.

That's how I managed to escape being taken advantage of by mountain bandits.

I'm still very grateful that he let me stay in the manor that year

and allowed me to live peacefully.

Even if we don't have any sons or daughters,

it's still better than wandering out there homeless.

With this kind of great kindness,

how could I moan and groan every day?

You are extremely right. I'm leaving now.

I will bring my younger sister on another day to offer our apologies.

This Ning'er, if she had half of my intelligence and judgment,

she would have already won over my Cousin Huang a long time ago.

I know you all look down on me because of my leg disability.

Looking down on me, right?

Just wait and see.

Commander, it's getting late. Why don't you go ahead and rest?

Is the fireworks festival a few days from now?

Yes. They must be rehearsing for the firework display.

Commander Ji, why do you remember this festival for the common people?

Because...

there is a girl

who loved watching the sky full of fireworks.

Slow down!

Brother Huang, quickly. It's about to start.

You're the only person who's ever stepped on me.

Look, they're so pretty!

Wow. Aren't they so pretty?

Brother, next year will you come to Zhao'er house

and accompany me to watch the fireworks?

Okay. Let's watch together again next year.

It's a promise then. Let's cross our pinkies and never change for a hundred years.

Let's cross our pinkies and never change for a hundred years.

Whoever changes, is a scoundrel.

Look! It's just like a flower.

I love looking at fireworks. Look.

Zhao'er, where are you now?

While I hope you didn't die with Lord Shen,

I'm afraid if you are still alive, you're living a vagabond's life.

I'm sorry.

The tragedy of your family was because of me.

If it weren't for me...

Commander Ji, your wound ruptured again.

I'll go summon Doctor Ding right now.

No need.

Tell Tian Qi to come here and change my medication.

Yes.

Commander Ji, Doctor Tian is here.

Commander Ji, let me apply the medication for you.

Stretch out your hand.

You are not the one who's injured. Why are you wincing?

I feel pain just looking at this.

Commander, if it's painful for you, don't bear with it. I will understand.

It's just applying medication, yet you talk so much.

Commander, I personally concocted this medication.

It's very effective for these kinds of flesh wounds.

But when I apply this, it'll be extremely very painful.

But when I apply this one, it won't hurt that much.

However, the effect is rather mild.

Commander, which would you like to use?

Of course, the one which is most effective. I'm a man.

Would I scream like a girl in pain?

Yes, that's right. I'm applying the medication now.

Commander, see. I told you it would be very painful.

Are you applying medication or poison?!

Why does it hurt that much?

I will blow on it, and it won't hurt anymore.

Don't be afraid. I will blow on it and it won't hurt anymore.

Does it still hurt?

Does it still hurt?

What are you doing?

To answer your question, it's a tradition of mine.

When I injured myself when I was young, my father would blow on it like this, too.

He said it wouldn't hurt anymore after blowing on it a bit.

What's with the blowing? It's so girly.

As a man, to do this is perverted.

Didn't you scream like a girl just now?

You even said you were not afraid of pain.

What did you say?

I said that I have never met anyone whom after using my medication

could tolerate such pain like you did.

You are very brave. I admire you.

Admire you.

Okay.

Leave now that you have applied the medication.

Commander.

After coating with this medicinal powder, when the wound has dried,

it will turn into a scab and gradually heal.

For the time being, don't let it come into contact with water or use any strength.

I'm leaving now. Leaving now.

Why did I think of Zhao'er when I saw him just now?

Sorry, I'm really sorry.

I came late.

Brother... Brother...

Why didn't you come to save us?

Zhao'er!

Commander, you are awake.

I will tell the doctor to brew a calming soup and bring it over.

Rest again after taking it. After all, you only slept for just two hours.

No need.

It's just an old sickness.

The calming soup won't be effective.

In any case, I can't sleep.

Help me with my clothes and join me to look at the night scenery.

Yes.

Before this pot of azaleas wither,

I hope you can find princess' murderer,

or else I will send you to meet your mistress.

With you as the bait, we can lure the snake out from its hole.

By the looks of it,

to the commander my life means nothing.

If I continue to investigate this,

the murderer will definitely eliminate me.

But if I don't investigate this,

Commander Ji will eliminate me.

Why don't I escape first

and hide for a few days?

Timing and Subtitles brought you by the Cutie-Patootie Team @viki.com

No, this won't do.

Before I take revenge, I cannot leave Ji Manor.

I must

survive. Understand?

Zhao'er, no matter what happens next,

you must remember my words.

You must survive.

Understand?

Father. Mother.

You must be good. No matter what you see, don't make any sounds.

Understand?

Hurry up!

- Go in. - Use this to cover.

- Who directed you to do this? - No need for you to know.

You must survive.

I... I must be hungry. How did I make myself so hungry I cried? Seriously.

I... I'm going back now to have a proper meal.

I will have a good sleep later.

I will be a better Tian Qi tomorrow.

What's the big deal?

I'm starving. I'm going to go eat.

It's Chun Hua!

Chun Hua?

- Go away! - Trying to leave?

Chun Hua, I've asked you out several times

and you keep hiding from me.

Are you looking down on me?

Move! Let go!

- Release me. - How dare you?!

Who are you?

It's not important who I am.

What's more important is who this woman is. Do you know who she is?

She's the woman whom Commander Ji fancies.

You are doomed!

Commander Ji fancies Chun Hua?

How is this possible?

Why not? Do you know who I am?

I'm the physician of Ji Manor... Ding Zhi.

His Majesty sent me here to take care of Commander Ji.

Thanks to the commander's trust, I've become his confidant.

Once in a while, I check his health and listen to his concerns.

So what Commander Ji is thinking, I know very well.

Commander Ji personally told you that he likes Chun Hua?

Yes. Of course.

Commander Ji even secretly sent me to help nurse her health.

I say, you guys. You are doomed, you know?

You even dared to touch Commander Ji's woman?

Do you think that I would believe what you say?

Who in this manor doesn't know that Commander Ji doesn't get close to any women?

You said that Commander Ji fancies Chun Hua?

Could it be that you fancy Chun Hua instead?

You dare to snatch her away from me? Buddies.

- Beat him up! - Wait!

Look, Brothers. The color of the moon is so beautiful tonight.

- It's so round... - Cut the crap. Beat him up!

How dare you?!

Commander Ji, you are here.

I haven't been back to the manor for more than a few days

and you have already broken the rules to this extent?!

Since when can you

bully the physician and a servant in this manor?

- Sheng Anhuai. - I'm here.

How should we handle this?

Flog the main culprit fifty times.

The rest will be flogged thirty times. Follow me to receive your punishment!

- Yes. - Yes. - Yes.

Get up.

Yes.

God, you must protect me.

Commander Ji didn't hear my nonsense did he?

As for you,

escort the woman whom I fancy back safely.

Since I fancy her,

if she loses a strand of her hair,

I'll blame it on you!

Commander Ji.

Doctor Tian.

Doctor Tian, you said that Commander Ji fancies me? Is it true?

You... You must be dreaming.

I'm one step closer to death now.

What did you say?

Forget it. I couldn't stand to watch a woman being taken advantage of

but I can't beat them physically.

I could only think of this strategy to use against them.

I don't know how Commander Ji will deal with me.

Forget it. I will escort you back lest someone bullies you again.

Let's go.

Didn't Master say that he will send me out from this manor after the deed is done?

Commander Ji is investigating who the murderer is right now.

- What if-? - That day, Master wanted you to frame Doctor Tian by offending Commander Ji,

so he could be accused on the spot and publicly dealt with.

He can then be planted as the murderer of Princess Shuncheng.

But how did you handle this task?

I...

Doctor Tian argued his way out, and Commander Ji spared him.

I couldn't do anything about it.

Master has to save me.

What if someone finds out I poisoned her? Master will be in trouble, too.

Don't worry. Master still thinks Tian Qi is the best scapegoat.

If Tian Qi is the murderer, no one will be skeptical and suspect Master.

Keep quiet and lie low in the manor for these coming days.

Live as usual. Once Tian Qi is dead, Master will arrange for you to leave here.

Go back now.

[Ji]

Tian Qi, you can do it. Be brave and go.

Older Brother, I'm going to pluck herbs for Commander Ji. I will be back soon.

You need the Ji badge to leave and enter.

Look at this brain of mine.

I forgot to bring it. I left in a hurry.

Can you make an exception?

I will be back very soon.

You should know I'm a doctor for the commander.

Doctor Tian, Commander Ji has ordered that

whoever wants to leave, they need to show the Ji badge to verify this.

Don't give us a hard time.

If you insist on leaving the manor,

I will take you to Commander Ji to verify this with him.

No need. I merely need to go back to look for it. Right?

It's such a minor matter. Why should we trouble Commander Ji?

I'm leaving. You both are working hard, working hard.

I'm leaving now. Sorry for the trouble.

Why is Ji Manor becoming more and more strict?

Looks like

I can only take that path.

Wang Wang, look at the nice food I brought for you.

Come here.

Come here now. If I can't leave by the normal way,

can't I go this way instead?

Another day, I will create a thousand Ji badges and wear them.

Enjoy your food. Be good.

Isn't that the girl in the painting?

I have been looking for many days without any news

and I found her now?

You're here.

Hurry, come in.

The person that Young Master is looking for,

she's a girl from Wan Hong Brothel?

Timing and Subtitles brought you by the Cutie-Patootie Team @viki.com

Young Master, I found her.

Which family is she from?

Wang Hong Brothel.

What kind of place is that?

It's a famous brothel known for its prostitutes in the city.

How is this possible?

Did you find the wrong place?

I personally witnessed her stepping into the Wang Hong Brothel.

The owner of the brothel seems to be very close to her.

How could it be like this?

Do you want me to bring her here from the brothel?

No need.

Hand this to her.

I'm returning it to the owner.

Yes.

Aunt Hong, what good prescription did you concoct now?

Don't mind what I did.

Come, tell me. Why are you back?

Of course, it's because I miss you.

If not for the misfortune of my family,

you would have been able to do what you like and practice medicine everywhere,

instead of having to be here.

What are you talking about?

With my good looks in this country, only here will my gift not be wasted.

Moreover, you didn't stop me from doing what I like to do. Right?

What's in your bag?

I snuck out. These are clothes that I wear in the manor.

What's wrong?

Don't you know someone left something in there?

What do you think is in my bag?

There's poison in it.

Auntie Hong.

This poison is known as Deadly Cure.

I recognized it because my senior brother,

who was also your father, developed this.

Other people don't know the formula for this.

My father developed this?

Aunt Hong, I didn't. I didn't harm anyone.

I didn't kill Princess Shuncheng. Believe me.

Moreover, I definitely wouldn't use my father's medicine to harm anyone.

I know. I know this.

This person placed this in your waist belt to frame you.

You must get rid of this drug first. Understand?

I will.

[Painted Beams Pavilion]

This Deadly Cure originated from Shen Qingyun.

After his death, no one knows its formula.

Someone used this to poison Princess Shuncheng.

Where did this murderer get this from?

Could this be related to the descendants of the Shen family?

Are you referring to Zhao'er?

I don't dare to draw any conclusions.

It's just that this murder has had strings attached.

I fear it's not that simple.

It can't be Zhao'er.

The Shen family only saved people and never harmed anyone.

If Zhao'er is still alive, she's definitely a kind person.

Doctor Shen used this prescription to save the plague victims

and used the poison to attack the disease.

He saved thousands of plague victims that year.

Doctor Shen was the physician in my manor.

The Deadly Cure is also a possession of Ji Manor.

The murderer must have known about its origins

and wanted Ji Manor to be unable to give an explanation in self-defense.

That's why Deadly Cure was used.

If Doctor Shen knew that this was used to harm others,

he would be heartbroken.

I will never tolerate this.

We must uncover the mastermind behind the murder.

Older Brother, don't worry. I will investigate it thoroughly.

Commander Ji,

please review these.

[Tian Qi's waist belt is hiding something]

Brother, this note...

This is suspicious. I'm going to investigate who placed this in the official documents.

No need.

The murderer must have prepared thoroughly. He's not afraid to be investigated.

But this note did leak some information.

I fear this murderer can't wait for Tian Qi to be the scapegoat.

After waiting for so long, this fish

has taken the bait.

Next, I'm going to hook this big fish.

Young Master.

Young Master, why didn't you dine with Commander Ji before you left?

Older Brother is very busy. I didn't want to annoy him.

How can you say this? Commander Ji is extremely happy that you are back.

Even if you didn't tell me, I already know. Okay, go back and serve him.

Goodbye, Young Master.

Who's that person?

He's Commander Ji's younger brother.

He has the title of the Great Brave Marquis.

Parrot? (T/N: marquis and parrot sound alike)

What nonsense are you spouting? What parrot?!

He's the Great Marquis.

Sorry, sorry! I said the wrong thing. Wrong thing.

You still have the mood to joke? Seriously.

By saying that, Commander Ji asked to see me because...

You will find out soon.

Commander Ji, Doctor Tian is here.
