[THEME MUSIC PLAYING]

The plane! The plane!

[GIRLS GIGGLING]

-Good morning, boss. -Good morning, Tattoo.

Let's go.

[WOMEN GIGGLING]

Smiles, everyone. Smiles.

[BAND PLAYS]

Mr. Charlie Rowlands and his daughter, Jeanie.

Mr. Rowlands was once on the threshold of becoming

America's finest country-western singer.

Which one has the fantasy, boss?

As a matter of fact, both, Tattoo.

The father wants his daughter to become

the superstar he never was,

so he has arranged to take her on a sentimental journey

to the scenes of his youth,

when he was just starting out as a performer.

How come he didn't become a star?

His young wife died.

He was forced to give up singing, find steady work,

and raise their three children.

What about the young lady? What's her fantasy?

ROARKE: Ah, for the moment, that must remain confidential.

Not even Mr. Rowlands knows about it.

But I can tell you this much,

Miss Rowlands does not wish to become a superstar.

And unless both fantasies work to perfection,

a beautiful father and daughter relationship

may very well be destroyed.

The brooding young man is Mr. David Tabori, an accountant.

The lovely lady with him is his wife, Elizabeth.

He looks like he's worried about something, boss.

Correct, Tattoo. He is tormented by a recurring nightmare

that gives him no rest.

With a pretty lady like that, he should be very happy.

She tries, Tattoo.

But how can a man be happy when he has recurring dreams of terror

and his wife is in that same dream, threatened by unknown dangers?

What's his fantasy? To sleep without dreaming?

His fantasy is to understand the meaning of the nightmare

and resolve it before a stark tragedy takes place.

My dear guests, I am Mr. Roarke, your host.

Welcome to Fantasy Island.

[♪♪♪♪♪]

[♪♪♪♪♪]

I do not believe it. This place looks great!

I mean it hasn't changed a speck in 20 years.

You know, some real important performers got their start right there.

Jeanie, what are you doing?

I like the way the shadows fell across the road.

Well, hon, you're here to sing, not make pictures.

You know, Mr. Roarke,

when old Charlie Rowlands was singing behind them doors,

I was singing for beer and grits.

Not this little lady. She's gonna be singing

for bucks, and I mean big bucks.

Well, every man is entitled to his dreams, Mr. Rowlands.

However, he must also live with his realities.

[CHUCKLES] I love the way you talk.

That's real fancy.

Thank you, Mr. Rowlands.

Well, uh, so long.

And thanks a bunch for everything.

You're very welcome. Miss Rowlands.

Hon, when I am talking to Mr. Roarke

about your career in music,

do you think you could put that camera away?

Sorry, Dad.

Oh, it's all right.

Come on. I'm gonna show you a time

that you will never, ever, ever forget.

[BAND PLAYING COUNTRY MUSIC]

[CHEERING]

[INAUDIBLE]

[CHEERING AND CLAPPING]

Charlie? Charlie Rowlands, is that you?

[CHUCKLES] Good lord! Lottie McFadden!

Heavens!

You look prettier than a prairie full of wildflowers in the springtime, hon.

And you look as handsome as one of them male models

in a department store catalog.

Let me look at you.

Well, I put on a pound or two here and there, but then, who hasn't?

[BOTH CHUCKLE]

Jeanie, I want you to meet

my longtime and dear, dear friend, Lottie McFadden.

Lottie, this is my daughter, Jeanie. Also my pride and joy.

Hi, Jeanie.

Ma'am, I have heard so much about you.

This is some place you have here.

Oh, it's nothing special, Jeanie.

But it is the best one east or west of the Mississippi.

Come on, you two, belly up to the bar.

-Drinks are on the house. -Right!

DAVID: Eight months... Been going on for eight months,

the same horrible recurring nightmare.

What can you tell me about these nightmares?

Some specifics.

Well, uh, when it starts...

I'm in darkness,

and I hear breathing.

Heavy, labored breathing.

And there's a strange sound to it.

Maybe it's even my own. I have no idea.

An animal cries out.

Elizabeth appears. I see a cave.

[JINGLING]

Please continue, Mr. Tabori.

She's... repulsed...

by the sight of me

or whatever it is.

David.

I know she's in danger, and I want to yell out,

"Get away! Run! Run!"

But I have no voice.

And then it happens.

She moves forward...

and a hairy...

claw

darts out and grabs her.

Then the nightmare ends and I wake up,

and I find myself in the attic, locked in.

You sent me this picture of a flower.

I don't know what it means,

but it's the only tangible clue I have.

You see, that flower keeps appearing in my dream.

A month ago, I saw it in a magazine,

and I've been desperate to find one like that ever since.

Don't ask me why. I don't know.

I see.

Can you help him, Mr. Roarke?

Help us?

I will do what I can, Mrs. Tabori.

Right now, I can't be more specific than that.

LOTTIE: Hey, everybody, listen up!

Now I know you've all been looking forward

to hearing Charlie sing, and I'm just so sure that as--

Wait. Now, hold on, Lottie.

Now, Charlie, you hold on.

Tomorrow night is our big hoedown,

and you're gonna be the star of the show,

just like the good old days.

Lottie, I can't do it.

Why not?

Folks, I haven't sung in years,

and I haven't even picked up a guitar.

I busted this thing up in a logging accident.

Oh, Charlie, I'm sorry. I just didn't know.

Oh, no! Don't be sorry. Be glad.

I've got a brand-new star for you.

My little daughter Jeanie

has got the sweetest voice this side of Nashville.

She sings better than I ever did.

Jeanie? Jeanie?

I've been telling all these folks how good you sing.

Why don't you give 'em a sample?

Dad, please!

Look, ma'am, he means well, but I'm not all that good.

Now don't go modest on me.

Listen, she's a little bit shy,

but I'm telling you, she's gonna be right up there

with Loretta Lynn and the rest of 'em.

It's okay, Jeanie, if you wanna beg off for tonight.

Um... How about standing in for your daddy tomorrow night?

Oh, no. No.

[SIGHS]

Well, yes, ma'am, I'd be right happy

to sing for you.

[CHUCKLES] I'm telling you, this Fantasy Island is a hoot.

Thanks to Mr. Roarke, everything's coming up roses.

I'll get it.

-Oh, Mr. Roarke. -Mr. Tabori.

-Come in. -Thank you.

-Ah, Mrs. Tabori. -ELIZABETH: Hello.

This, uh, picture you gave me...

Mmm-hmm.

It is an exotic species called the Lykos Orchid.

It is found in only one place in the world,

the jungles of Central Africa.

David's never been to Africa.

Indeed.

Um, please, please sit down.

Thank you.

I am not certain of the flower's significance yet.

However, I have ordered a few samples flown here.

It may take some time.

Meanwhile, there are a few other details I must look into.

Forgive me, Mrs. Tabori.

May I talk to your husband alone?

Why, yes, of course.

It'll actually give me a little bit more time

to touch up my makeup.

Oh, well, thank you.

How much does your wife know, Mr. Tabori?

Well, uh, just what I've told you.

These nightmares...

you experience them with each full moon.

Am I correct?

Yes. But how did you know?

No matter.

The important thing is

there will be a full moon tonight.

What are you trying to tell me?

Mr. Tabori, you consume enormous amounts of water.

Your dreams contain an animal with hairy hands.

I have a feeling that you have already done some research

on lycanthropy.

What are you talking about?

Lycanthropy, the fear of turning into a beast.

The source of the legend of the, um...

werewolf.

Mr. Roarke, I came here for help,

not ridiculous fairy tales.

It was a hypothetical suggestion.

Farfetched, I agree.

I suggest you and your wife enjoy the luau this evening.

Will you excuse me?

We will get to the bottom of it.

Somehow.

He suspects. Possibly, he already knows.

Yes. Alert your patrol, but say nothing about a werewolf.

Just say there may be some difficulty

around the Tabori bungalow tonight.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

I am so glad we came.

It's beautiful here. Mr. Roarke is right.

-You're beautiful. -Hmm. Really?

Now, when did that errant thought enter your mind?

I haven't been much of a husband lately, have I?

Well, I'm sorry, darling. I... I was just teasing.

Oh, it's true.

Half of me is here, and the other half is caught up

-in God knows what. -[SIGHS]

Well, half a David is better than no David at all.

I love you, Liz.

I love you so much that what I'm doing to you rips at my guts

even more than that thing that happens to me at night.

I'm your wife, David.

Your good times are mine and your bad times are also.

And you know something? For the first time in weeks,

I feel g--

[SHUDDERING]

What's wrong?

David?

[BREATHING HEAVILY]

[GROANS]

David?

David?

[GASPS]

-Mrs. Tabori. -Mr. Roarke.

I was just looking for David.

We were dancing and then he suddenly ran off.

[DISTANT HOWLING]

That sounds like a... A wolf.

There are no wolves on Fantasy Island, Mrs. Tabori.

[HOWLING CONTINUES]

[GROWLING]

[GROWLING]

May I have a print?

Mr. Roarke! I thought I was alone.

Oh, you were. In a very special world

from the expression on your face.

Just relaxing. Night photography is a real challenge.

Miss Rowlands, have you told your father how you feel?

How I feel?

Right now, he's inside the Ole Island Opry explaining to his friends

that music is your life.

And here you are, photographing flowers.

I was just relaxing. I'm a little nervous.

Miss Rowlands, that camera hasn't left your hands since you arrived.

But your guitar has, hasn't it?

Please, sit down.

Your love is photography, not music.

Have you told my father that?

No. But you must at a certain point.

Oh, sure. I'll just march up to him and say,

"Papa, forget your dreams. You got a raw deal out of life,

and you sacrificed a lot for me and my two brothers.

But see, Papa, I got this real feeling for pictures

the way that you had for music.

[SIGHING] And so, what I did, without telling you,

was I sent some of my work to the best photography school

in the world to try for a scholarship,

because it isn't just a hobby like you keep wanting to believe."

What about the concert?

Will you do it?

I have to. I'm Charlie Rowlands' daughter.

Just hang a guitar on me and away I go.

But you're a better photographer

because that's where your heart is.

And yet, you will hurt yourself rather than hurt your father.

I brought him here to make him happy, Mr. Roarke.

I just have to do it.

What's that?

Notification that you have won a scholarship

to the National Academy of Photographic Arts.

Oh!

Charlie, we have a very selective crowd nowadays.

I mean, last month, we had Mac Davis,

and before that, Glen Campbell and Dolly Parton.

[SIGHS] I've only got your word

that Jeanie can turn my audience on.

Would you just listen to old Charlie?

He rushed straight to the bedroom and locked himself in.

Tell me the words. Give me the way to say it to her.

to my body,

my soul.

This... This thing that haunted my sleep,

this animal,

it's me.

No.

No, it's... It's impossible!

It can't happen!

Mr. Tabori, your name was once Tabortoch.

You are a direct descendant of Antoine Tabortoch,

a legendary werewolf

who roamed the foothills of the Romanian Alps.

But your obsession with that flower, the Lykos Orchid,

is instinctive.

"Lykos" is Greek for "wolf."

It is believed that the orchid also draws its life

from the moon,

and therefore is the only known cure.

The orchid. You said you'd get it for me.

Yes. But it requires time.

And until then, what?

Another night? More killing?

Oh, darling, I'll stay with you.

No. Don't you see, Liz?

I don't want to harm you, the love I feel for you.

Please, don't let me destroy that.

Your husband is right. We will keep him here in this room.

I suggest that you be locked in one hour before sunset.

Alone.

And make certain that he does not get out

before I return with the Lykos Orchid.

I have posted two guards outside,

just in case.

Who's gonna run it?

Sam Hagen will take care of everything.

He had been courting Lottie for years,

hoping to get the job.

Mr. Roarke, what can we say to someone

who saved both our lives?

Seeing you as you are now, looking so well and happy

is all the thanks I need.

You both look wonderful. Did you resolve your problems?

Oh, yes.

Mr. Roarke, if I could only be sure

that David's nightmare will never return.

Indeed you can.

The strength of your love for each other

drove out all the evil.

As long as you remain together,

you will have only pleasant dreams from this day forward.

Goodbye.

Again, thank you.

-Bye-bye. -Bye.

-Boss. -Yes?

He was not a werewolf.

Indeed. And how did you reach that conclusion?

Because werewolves don't exist.

Oh, I see.

Are you saying that being a werewolf

was all in Mr. Tabori's mind?

Exactly.

Boss, what are you looking at?

[GASPS] Boss, my hand!

What?

I... I'm turning into a... A...

A werewolf?

Impossible. It's all in your mind.
