=Episode 15=

Haoyu,

I'm heading to work.

(Lu Hui)

(Lucky Beauty Yu)

(Lu Hui)

Wait,

before the divorce,

Dad was already dating Yu Meng.

Dr. Kang.

The lab budget approval

has been stalled.

I urged for times,

and was told

it's because of you.

You promised me

your internal power struggles

wouldn't affect my lab.

What is this about?

I haven't gotten

any approval documents.

Could there be

a misunderstanding?

Don't worry.

I'll check with Finance.

Before the funds arrive,

the lab

will halt all the development.

I'll get to it now.

Come in.

Why hold up

the lab budget approval?

It's you?

A wise bird chooses its perch.

You should understand that, Ms. Yu.

Give me the lab budget approval.

I'm signing it right now.

Ms. Yu, you might not know

that Finance

has procedures.

One at a time.

First come, first served,

right?

You need to approve

Jinghua's production increase first

before we process

the lab budget.

Fine.

Lecturing me on procedures, are you?

Either give me the approval,

or

(Resignation Form)

sign this and get lost now.

Mr. Di,

should we process Dr. Kang's approval

first?

No need.

Company funds are tight now.

Jinghua gets top priority.

By the way,

as your instructions,

(Resignation Form)

for the sake of the company,

I completely offended Ms. Yu

this time.

She wants to fire me.

Don't worry.

You report

directly to me.

Okay.

I'm out then.

I'm truly sorry,

Dr. Kang.

Please give me some time.

Is everything ready?

Remember,

push Yu Meng until she completely breaks down.

Meng is in a dilemma.

Can you give her a bit more time?

We'll definitely be grateful.

I'm hungry.

I'll make you something to eat.

What do you usually eat?

Takeout.

Let's go.

Where to?

When did you grab this?

I thought Chestnut would like it.

(Anpanman Cookies)

Eat up.

School is about to over.

Let's pick up Chestnut.

Sure.

As for Yu Meng,

I saw her

arguing with Wu Heng.

She's trying hard

to resolve it.

I can give her more time,

but at the office,

I have to show my attitude.

Your acting was pretty convincing.

I thank you for her.

Look at you.

Hit a wall again?

Di Liren sent Wu Heng

to the Finance

to replace Mr. Dong.

And he cut off

the funding for the lab.

I have the signing authority,

but if Finance disapproves,

I can't do anything.

Di Liren doesn't

hide anymore,

and plays it straight.

Exactly.

I even used a resignation letter

to force Wu Heng.

I knew Wu Heng wouldn't sign it,

and Di Liren

would protect him.

But I had to

show Dr. Kang

my determination to resolve this.

What did Liu Zi say?

She definitely defends me.

She should've talked

to Kang Long.

Your signing authority becomes useless now.

I think Di Liren wants

to tell you this.

Whatever.

I don't care

about him anymore.

All I want right now is to get

the test results for Jinghua.

The test results

will take at least three days.

You must keep your composure.

Chips, five yuan.

Scan here to pay.

Right, and a Coke.

Two yuan.

You...

I don't want it.

(Jiali, Pay Us Back) Jiali, pay us back!

Jiali, pay us back!

Jiali, pay us back!

Excuse me.

Jiali, pay us back!

Jiali, pay us back!

Ma'am.

What's going on here?

You're that Ms. Yu!

Pay us back!

You're holding our payments!

What do you mean?

What payments?

If you don't pay the factory,

and the factory won't pay us.

How are us small vendors

supposed to survive?

Pay us now,

or you won't go.

Ma'am, let's talk this out.

Don't touch me!

I've got nothing to lose anyway!

You make us do this!

Put the knife down,

please.

Pay us first!

Put the knife down first.

Let me go.

I'll take you upstairs

to pay you.

I'm not going with you.

Everyone's here.

I need them to witness this.

You make the call.

Ma'am,

listen to me.

Security already called the police.

The police will arrive soon.

I won't withhold your money.

Just put the knife down.

Let me go.

I'll take you upstairs

to pay you,

okay?

If I'm lying to you,

you can come every day.

Let go!

- What are you doing? - Hey, what are you doing?

- Don't move! - Don't move!

Be careful.

Did he think I would give up

the signing authority over this?

Never.

Di Liren is so shameless.

He's more despicable

than I imagined.

Just let your imagination run

even wilder with him.

How is it?

Are you okay?

It stinks.

The smell still lingers.

Smell this.

I'll pass.

Take this first.

Don't collapse before

the real deal begins.

What's this?

I'd like some too.

What for?

Get to the point.

Right. Meng,

the test results...

Keep your voice down.

The test results are out.

(Test Report)

The key active ingredient,

hydroxytyrosol,

wasn't detected at all.

And preservatives exceeded the limit.

That's so outrageous.

It's the product

Jiali is promoting hard.

Can this report

put Di Liren and Han Guang

behind bars?

No.

Private testing carries

little legal weight.

Besides,

this report can only be a lead,

not a proof of guilt.

Di Liren can claim

the sample got tampered.

We need stronger evidence

to prove Di Liren

is related to this.

Bai,

your clothes fit well.

Meng,

is your work

that dangerous?

Not at all.

It was just today.

And you ran into it.

Harry,

about today,

thank you.

Meng,

I'm sorry.

What's this about?

Why apologize?

I have a friend.

His parents are

quite in love,

but he just discovered

his dad started another family

with a new identity.

His parents kept it from him

probably to protect him.

Did your friend

never notice

any signs?

A while ago,

his parents even

talked about emigration.

What does he think?

He just wants the truth.

But is knowing the truth good?

You have to know,

in any relationship,

once trust is broken,

it can never go back to how it was.

What if that truth

is tied to his future plans,

his hopes and dreams

that he never gives up?

Once he learns

the truth,

his dreams might be

shattered.

Knowing the truth

is more important than

chasing dreams.

Really?

Do you want to come to Jiali

and be my assistant?

This way.

Ding,

this is my new assistant,

Harry.

Get him onboarded with HR.

You're the guy who blocked that dirty water

for Meng, right?

Yes.

This is...

This is my new assistant,

Harry.

Honey,

why didn't I know

you needed an assistant?

Harry doesn't seem

to have a media background.

I could find you someone

more qualified

and experienced.

Mr. Di,

during the livestream that day,

you praised Harry

for being quick-witted

and smart.

So I think

he is a better fit

for my assistant.

Harry,

want to be my assistant?

I may not have a media background,

but

I'd love to learn from Meng.

Good luck with your job.

By the way, Meng,

Mr. Tian is waiting

for you in the office.

At such a critical moment,

with such a huge mess,

that'd ruin Jiali's reputation.

I'm sorry, Mr. Tian.

I'll handle this.

You insisted on handling it,

so things lost control.

Jiali contains

our years of hard work.

If you feel

overwhelmed,

hand your signing authority

over to Liren.

Mr. Tian.

Enough.

Don't come

for a while.

Go home and get some rest.

Liren will take care of

everything from now on.

(The situation has changed. Send it now.)

(Jinghua's Test Report)

I received an anonymous email.

It's Jinghua's test report.

I got it too.

Me too.

There is a problem with Jinghua.

Mr. Di is in charge of Jinghua.

Could he be...

No way.

He's never done this.

I just received

an anonymous email

with a Jinghua's test report.

I wonder if you received it.

It says we faked Jinghua's ingredients,

and its preservatives exceeded.

I know there are many rumors

about Jinghua lately.

But today,

I want to make a formal statement.

All of these

are completely

unfounded rumors.

To prove our innocence,

Jiali will conduct

a full internal inspection

regarding Jinghua.

If we find any issues,

we'll hold them accountable.

Mr. Di

is in charge of Jinghua.

Right.

Exactly.

Right.

Mr. Di is in charge of Jinghua.

So this is very likely

a tactic used by

our competitors

to smear Jiali or Mr. Di.

I believe

Mr. Di is innocent.

- So do we. - So do we.

Without definitive proof,

we can't suspect

any of our own people.

But to uncover the truth,

Mr. Di must

cooperate with

the investigation.

Without definitive proof,

we can't suspect

any of our own people.

But to uncover the truth,

Mr. Dong

must

step down for now.

(General Manager, Han Guang) What is going on?

How did our company

receive this test report too?

I'll handle it.

It's all taken care of.

I don't care how you handle it,

but don't forget,

tomorrow is the deadline.

Relax.

Meet at the usual place.

Hello?

Yu Meng hired Haoyu.

Han Guang is pressing me.

Now,

you must stand united with me.

Let's get rid of her.

To get rid of Yu Meng,

we have to use Jinghua.

I'll keep Han Guang in check.

You transfer me the money.

Have you spent that money

on investments or real estate?

Are you sure

you can keep him in check?

This is our only option now.

Let me think.

You weren't the liaison with Jiali,

nor did you sign the contract.

And you're not the direct head

of the factory.

If anything goes wrong,

you're just a victim.

Keep a close eye on Jiali.

Whenever things change,

cut ties with them.

Okay, understood.

Mr. Di.

Hey,

who are you?

Wrong room?

If you're Han Guang,

I'm in the right room.

Who are you?

We haven't met,

but you should know me.

I know

all about you and Di Liren.

Every time you wire money to Di Liren,

the account ending in 304

is mine.

Who are you to him?

It doesn't matter.

What matters

is you need Di Liren's money,

and his money is with me.

Here,

cakes!

Thank you.

What's wrong?

Eat up.

I don't think Di Liren

would wait around to die.

I agree.

He must be plotting,

but we don't know

what it is yet.

Let me share

some great news!

I just landed

a brand deal with a high pay.

Look, the deposit just came in.

Nice!

You're great!

That's a lot of money.

I'm rich now.

Sorry, I'm late.

Traffic jams.

Mr. Di.

Well, well.

You have an advisor hidden.

But you still

found her, didn't you?

Where were you?

How to help you.

It's settled.

I'm off now.

This is freshly brewed.

It takes time

for tea to reveal its sweet aftertaste.

Why are you here?

If you want money from me,

I need to know what's going on first.

The top priority right now

is keeping Haoyu in check.

We can't let him stay

by Yu Meng's side.

(What if your parents hide a lot from you?)

Thursday,

you'll go to Beijing for a follow-up.

(I've decided. I'll look into it myself first.) Right.

But I feel like

I've recovered well.

I don't need to go

to Beijing anymore.

Maybe

we can

go to a local hospital.

No way.

You were treated

in Beijing.

Dr. Zhou knows

your medical history.

I only trust

him.

If you refuse,

I'll escort you to Beijing.

Don't.

Don't trouble yourself.

I'll go.

That's my son.

I've booked your flight.

Give these records

to Dr. Zhou.

If the test results

are good,

I have a task for you.

A task?

What task?

Remember

our old house

back in Xiaocheng?

I bought it back.

I remember how reluctant

you were to leave there.

I thought to myself,

when I could manage it,

I'd buy that house

back.

It just so happened the owner

put it on the market,

so I bought it.

That way, the three of us

can have a home

when we go back.

All it needs now is renovation.

Maybe

you could go back

and take care of it.

That's a huge project.

But

I need inspiration

to take it on.

Otherwise,

it'll ruin my reputation,

right?

True.

I'll pack your things first.

Okay.

Call me when you arrive.

Don't worry.

I'll call you every day.

Eat properly, okay?

Go.

I'm leaving.

Go on.

Drive safe, sir.

Hello?

Did Haoyu leave?

Just left.

You get the hang of it.

Cut the flattery.

I'm telling you,

even if we can't leave unscathed

and must fight to the death,

I can accept that.

But I can't let

her to use Haoyu again.

The life Haoyu has now

is the life

he was always meant to have.

He can't go back

to that old life anymore.

Alright.

This time,

I have a permanent solution.

Even if she wants

to go against us,

she won't have the power.

(Wuyou Moving) Excuse me.

Excuse me.

What are you doing?

Ms. Yu,

right?

We're from Wuyou Moving Company.

Happy to be of service.

Moving company?

No one needs to move here.

Building 8, right?

Check if this is

your number and address.

Just a moment.

Sure.

(Di Liren)

The info is right,

but I'd like to know

who ordered this.

It's okay then.

Where should we

start moving?

Let's go in.

Come on.

I never ordered a move.

Don't go in.

Security, stop them!

Stop right there!

Stop it.

Get out!

Get out!

What is going on here?

Ms. Yu,

we normally don't provide

night service.

We only came

at this hour

after confirming

with you.

You can't go back on your word.

Ms. Yu,

maybe check if your family

ordered this.

I make all the decisions.

No one needs to move.

If you really don't want to move, fine.

As we're already here,

you need to pay us.

In the dead of night,

why moving out?

Did she go bankrupt?

Meng,

why are you suddenly moving?

I'm not. Everyone,

they made a mistake.

Why do I need to pay you?

Go ask whoever placed the order.

Trying to blackmail me?

Get lost,

or I'll call the cops.

Call them then, Ms. Yu.

We came here for an order,

completely legally.

Anyway, it's 100 yuan per man,

600 for the truck.

Pay us now,

or we won't leave.

We'll have to wait here.

Wait right here.

We're not leaving.

Wait here.

Sit down and wait.

(Di Liren)

Hello, honey?

Did you call the movers?

What movers?

Someone hired movers,

and a bunch of men came.

You didn't call

to tell me that?

I wanted to tell you

that Jinghua's test report is out.

I'm afraid you'll worry,

so I forwarded it right away.

(Jinghua's Test Report)

(Pass)

You really have your ways.

As long as we align

on the Jinghua project,

who could possibly find fault with it?

Luckily, you notified

Lin Qiang in time

to swap out the test samples,

or it'd cause trouble.

But why did you call the movers

to your house

at this hour?

Aim for where it hurts most.

I can't let her keep

stirring up trouble.

If she becomes

someone with mental illness,

who would ever believe

anything she says?

Liren,

I heard rumors

that Jiali went bankrupt,

you and Meng

tried to skip town in the middle of the night.

This is a misunderstanding.

See what you've done.

Meng asked me

to hire the movers.

Alright.

Don't mention this again.

Checked Dad's temperature

and blood pressure?

All normal.

Here's the report.

By the way,

Meng left behind the meds

from her psychiatry visit.

Psychiatry?

(Lithium Carbonate Tablets)

What's up with her?

Nothing.

What happened?

Tell me the truth.

Ms. Hui,

go fetch some hot water.

Okay.

Meng does have

an issue in that area.

It's my fault

for neglecting her.

She was fine.

Why would she have this issue?

I thought she was just

throwing some temper.

Then Dad fell ill.

One day, I worked late

and came a bit late.

But Meng caused a scene

right here,

smashing things

and throwing chairs.

She insisted I cheated on her,

and asked Dad to fire me,

so she could be the chairman.

What?

That's ridiculous!

Yu is still sick.

Ms. Hui used to be a nurse.

She noticed something's off

and told me to get her checked out.

Then we learned

she is indeed sick.

But Meng refuses to take her meds

and denies being sick.

Multiple times now,

she denied things she'd said

and forgot things she'd done.

I...

With my relationship with Yu,

Meng is like a daughter to me.

I won't just stand by.

I'll talk to her.

But she doesn't want

others to know

about her condition.

Don't worry.

I understand.

Mr. Tian,

if you didn't ask me to come

to talk about work,

then...

Just have a meal

and unwind.

What?

Can't we?

Of course, we can.

How is your mom doing lately?

Pretty good.

We video call every day,

and she's much better now.

Well, human

needs rest.

I think you should

go to keep her company.

Surrounded

by mountains and waters,

you could reset

your body and mind.

You might not

even need the meds.

Meds?

What meds?

Well,

you young people nowadays

are getting into wellness,

taking all those

supplements by the handful.

Mr. Tian,

did someone

tell you something?

No.

I just remembered

that my family

went to New Zealand last year.

Let me show you some photos.

Look.

The scenery there is gorgeous.

I really think

you should take your mom on a trip.

Well,

I'll send

our itinerary last year

to you.

Thank you.

But lately,

I don't have the time.

What is it, Mom?

Did you go for your follow-up today?

What did Dr. Zhou say?

Don't worry.

Everything looks fine.

Look.

I just stepped out.

Look.

Good.

I also asked Dr. Zhou

to give you a full physical checkup.

Just do it.

Don't rush back.

I'll book your return ticket later.

Alright, got it.

I want to stay

a bit longer.

Mr. Tian asked me out suddenly.

Di Liren must have

told him something.

Looks like he's terrified

I'll take back my signing authority,

so he's trying hard to stop me.

We need to change our approach.

What other excuse do you have

to return to Jiali?

And Harry?

Why no news

on Harry lately?

In Beijing for a follow-up.

He even sent me

his medical records.

To be honest,

with him gone,

I worry Lu Hui

might run off with my money anytime.

Once Lu Hui runs,

Di Liren will vanish immediately.

Now I suspect

they might have

a disagreement on this.

How so?

I'm in a good mood. No need to pay.

It's on me.

Before this,

I understood why Di Liren

wanted to gamble.

If he could take over Jiali,

he could siphon off more money.

But I didn't expect

your dad to give the signing authority to you,

which put him on the back foot.

His best move right now

is to flee with money.

Yet,

he hasn't.

Maybe Lu Hui is the one

who wants to flee,

not Di Liren.

He's far more ambitious.

Then what exactly is he after?

Jiali's equity?

Whatever he's after,

we can only focus on

what's at hand.

Only by digging into Jinghua

can we get leverage on him.

On one hand,

I need to find a way

to get back to the company.

On the other hand,

I need to figure out

how Han Guang and Di Liren

managed to rig

this test.

I must take back

the real test report.

Who else is involved in

the production process

and might know

the adulteration?

The OEM factory head.

Mr. Di,

our factory suffered a lot of loss.

You can't just brush this off.

We'll have plenty of chances to cooperate.

I'll offer more profit next time.

How about that?

Let's have a toast.

To you and Mr. Han.

Waiter.

Open the other bottle too.

I'm so sorry.

Traffic was terrible today,

so I'm late.

Why are you here?

Honey,

you're treating to apologize,

yet with no good wine.

Once I heard it,

I hurried home

and grabbed two nice bottles.

Mr. Han.

And this is...

This is Guangsili'er

OEM factory head,

Lin Qiang.

Hello,

Mr. Lin.

So it's you who audited our books.

Look at the mess you caused.

Not only is my entire factory

living in fear,

our other partners

are getting paranoid now.

Some even canceled their orders!

Do you know

how much loss we suffer?

Mr. Lin,

don't get agitated.

Tell me

the desired solution.

Compensate us!

Compensate you?

Sure.

How much?

However,

I hope you

think this through.

Can you really afford

Jiali's compensation?

Demanding quality testing

for our products

is in accordance with the contract.

If you insist,

I can submit a request

to the board.

But whether the board agrees

to pay,

or suspends

our partnership

over this,

that's out of my hands.

Mr. Lin,

no need for that.

I brought you here

just to introduce you to Mr. Di.

The Jinghua matter

is in the past.

If you insist on

compensation,

it'll hurt our trust.

Are you really going to go after Meng?

Besides,

Meng did nothing wrong.

We're all trying

to ensure the product's quality.

Mr. Han is right.

Meng meant well.

If we had let it slide,

and word leaked out,

the damage to both our brands

would've been much worse.

Ms. Yu,

I drank a bit too much,

and spoke out of turn.

I apologize.

I'm sorry.

I'll finish this pot.

Alright, Mr. Lin.

Meng is like my own sister.

She won't blame you.

Make sure

to watch your words.

Anyway,

the sender of that email

is the one who should be held liable.

Good point.

Where did he get

the samples,

and where were they tested?

Did he do all this

with ulterior motives

just to extort us?

We have no idea.

It's worth digging into.

I don't think so.

Right now,

we don't have any evidence.

Digging into it might cause a stir.

As

a content creator,

it will backfire online.

Meng, I know you're kind.

But whoever

smeared our product's quality

must have bad intentions.

I'm not being kind,

but considering the big picture.

If this person

truly intended to smear us,

why sent

an internal email?

He could've

publicized it.

Just because we don't know

what he wants,

we need to track him down.

Honey,

you're so objecting,

do you

know who it is?

Hello, everyone.

I'm today's Emotional Detective.

Today,

our submission

comes from a lady.

Let me read her story first.

She says

she's been married for three years.

When she first met him...

(Someone's knocking?)

(Go check it out.)

(So noisy.)

Wait a second.

I'll go check.

Who is it?

Police.

You're Liu Bai, right?

We're investigating a case.

Please come with us.

(What's going on?)

(Where did Host go?)

(Rumor says he got arrested!)

(Really?)

(That's huge!)

In such a fun live stream,

he got arrested just like that.

It's just the beginning.

I'm not just making the whole company

think she's crazy.

I'm also going to get rid of

those around her.

Dong Jun,

Liu Bai, and Liu Zi.

I want her to end up

with no one but me.

Luckily, I'm

on your side.

Mr. Chen,

hello.

This is Di Liren.

We spoke earlier.

I got it.

Thank you then.

Meng.

What's with him?

Three days in criminal detention.

Di Liren has pressed charges.

That scumbag!

Wait,

I knew Di Liren

might go to the police,

so I had Jiao Xu

close every legal loophole.

What charges did he press?

Extortion.

How do you know?

The lawyer Di Liren hired

is from our firm.

I just knew it.

He hired from your firm?

Then you couldn't

represent Liu Bai.

Right.

Criminal case

isn't my specialty anyway,

I can refer you to one.

You read that email

carefully, didn't you?

Liu Bai never took money from him.

Why would it

be extortion?

Remember that deal

Liu Bai took earlier?

What about it?

It wasn't a real deal.

The money wired to him

was from a Di Liren's account.

Now Di Liren insists

he was extorted.

And he provided

surveillance footage of Liu Bai following him,

claiming Liu Bai demanded

hush money,

disguised as a deal payment.

Shameless!

Calm down.

We walked into a trap,

but we still

have plenty of room

for defense.

Three angles in cases like this.

First,

prove it's a real business deal.

Contracts

and chat logs

can prove the payment

isn't hush money.

Second,

challenge their evidence.

Can they prove

that you showed

any threats?

Third, expose their motive.
