Episode 9

The time isn't ripe, but they can restrict the actions of Wei.

At least, they let you go.

That is good too.

If I can shake off the Kingdom of Chen from the Kingdom of Wei,

At least, I still have a reason to live on.

Ah Ning, you must remember,

Hold it in.

Only when you can hold it in can you do something great.

When can we go back?

We cannot leave yet.

To pacify the people of the Kingdom of Wei, the King of Chen has suggested a marriage between the kingdoms.

The one who marries our princess will become our Kingdom of Wei's generalissimo.

Then who is marrying?

Yes, that is the big problem.

The lords are suggesting Princess Ping.

She's only twelve years old!

Those old lords! To maintain their position, who cares what age the princess is?

I have to stay here for now to prepare to welcome the princess's husband.

The kingdom is finished,

yet the princess's days still cannot be like a normal person's.

Riches and fortune. In the end, they are all useless.

-Father.-Come, sit.

Yes, Father.

You have come just in time.

The king's decree to make you the generalissimo has come.

Father, I cannot marry this princess.

You must marry her!

Father, you know that I have promised to marry Qiqi!

You promised that if I helped you hide news of the eldest prince, I would be able to marry Qiqi!

I have already betrayed my friend.

Father, do you want me to be one who doesn't keep my words in love too?

An'er, you have been my pride since childhood!

In martial arts and intelligence, no one could compare to you!

The most important thing is that you have a loyal heart.

But...I cannot believe

that what makes my head hurt most is also your loyalty!

Loyalty is the foundation of being someone's vassal.

Isn't this what you've told me since childhood?

Wrong!

Loyalty is the wrong idea that rulers created to make their vassals sell their lives to them!

As the king's subject, you should know how to read a situation.

Since it's like that, I cannot marry the princess even more so!

Because I want to marry Qiqi!

I want to live for myself!

Isn't this what you mean Father?

Very good.

An'er. Since you listen to my lessons so well, then I will give you another one tomorrow!

Come! Tie up that girl in the villa!

Father! Didn't you promise me that you'd never hurt her?

I've never been a person to keep my promises!

Father,

I'm begging you!

Just take it as my begging!

She is your weakness!

As long as someone finds out that weakness, they will use it!

I would, and so would others!

Today, let me take care of this weakness for you!

Wait!

I...will take the Kingdom of Wei's princess as my wife.

Shen An, if you knew I was the one who saved you,

Would you still treat me like this? Or would you hate me even more?

What should I do?

Shen An, why is it that even if you are near me,

I still feel that we are worlds apart and unable to meet?

What to do?

What should I do?

Ah Ning! Get ready, come back to Cui Sha Palace with me.

Didn't you say that you have to stay here to deal with the princess's marriage?

Something has happened!

I never thought that Princess Ping would be just like her older sister.

The minute she heard she was to be married to General Shen, she hung herself that very night.

Thankfully she was found early, so nothing happened.

No one dares to force her now.

I have to hurry back to discuss with the other lords.

The Kingdom of Chen's escorts will be departing soon.

Big brother, who did you say the princess had to be married to?

Shen An! The one you defeated!

I've heard that though he is strict,

But he is still a loyal person.

If he is the generalissimo of the Kingdom of Wei, it won't be a bad thing.

Okay, let's not talk now. Hurry and get ready.

We'll set off in a bit.

Ning'er.

What's wrong?

Big brother, if the princess isn't willing to marry,

I...

I am willing to do it for her!

Ah Ning, what are you saying?

Miss Liu.

Miss Liu, hurry and eat dinner. It's going to get cold.

Miss Liu, are you waiting for the young lord?

You really do love him very much.

But...the young lord is very busy.

He cannot come eat with you every night.

Don't wait, hurry and eat.

Miss Liu, I'm going to say a few more words.

This place is not the same as a regular household.

Even though you saved the young lord,

but just that cannot hold his heart forever.

Just waiting for him is useless too.

When the days stretch long, gratitude will fade.

Also, with people like our young lord who rank high,

Three wives and four concubines is very normal.

If you don't play any games of the heart or manipulate anything,

in the future, how can you rise over them all?

If you don't believe me,

I will go now.

Miss Liu, do you have any other orders?

What should I do?

If you trust me,

I am willing to give you some more hints.

To be the young lord's wife,

the most important thing is to know when to back off.

Someone innocent and naive like you,

no one will listen to you here besides the young lord.

This is your weakness.

But it is also your strength.

It's because Young Master will take pity.

Thus, you must make good use of this pity.

Qiqi.

What should I do with you?

Do you know,

when I wake up from my dreams,

everything in my head is thinking of you.

Qiqi,

There's something I want to tell you.

I am not a person who goes back on my word.

I promised to marry you, so I definitely will.

It's just...

I'm afraid we must postpone our wedding.

I have to marry the princess of the Kingdom of Wei.

Qiqi! I have no choice.

I am your Shen An

but at the same time, I'm also the Generalissimo of Wei kingdom.

I'm a citizen of Chen kingdom.

This is my responsibility.

I must listen.

Even though I do not love her,

I don't even know who she is,

but I must marry her.

Qiqi, I hope you can understand.

Someone like you who is innocent and naive,

In the household, no one but the young lord will listen to you.

This is your weakness.

It is also your strength.

Because the young lord will take pity with you.

So, you must make good use of this pity.

I know this is very cruel.

In my heart, there is only you.

For you, I can take any sufferings.

as long as I am in your heart,

even if I have to be a concubine, I'm willing.

It is my fortune to have a concubine like you.

Qiqi, I will not forsake you in this life.

Ah Ning.

I heard the maids say that you didn't sleep all night.

I couldn't fall asleep, so I didn't.

Ah Ning, I know you are hardheaded.

Tell me. You want to get married in the princess's place,

is there another reason why?

What reason do you think there would be?

You wouldn't be wanting to secretly assassinate him, would you?

If I kill him, will the Kingdom of Wei not be finished?

Big Brother, I've thought things through long ago.

There's no point in having brute courage.

But this is for your entire life!

You don't need to say anything.

My heart has been decided.

Actually, I've already sent a letter

to the generalissimo's home.

I think that not long from now,

the entire Kingdom of Wei will know that I am going to be married in the princess's place.

-Isn't this pretty great?-You-!

I can't understand you anymore, Ah Ning!

Big Brother, I do not feel like I'm being forced. Really.

According to the Heavens, the king has ordered,

Generalissimo Shen An, courtesy name Bozhou

is a virtuous, wise

and loyal official of Chen,

who has scored multiple military achievements.

He is to be given a dukedom of the secondary rank,

he will be the generalissimo of the Kingdom of Wei!

Shen An, I'm not sure how I should start.

I will become your wife.

But before this happens,

I hope you know

I was not forced.

I wonder if you still remember the battle three months ago.

You were injured by the wandering flame, so I sent you to be healed.

Even though it was only a few day's time,

But you and I already made a promise as deep as the ocean.

My heart has never changed.

But I wonder if your heart has changed at all.

In my letter, this jade piece is a pair.

You are half of the pair.

And I am the other half. If your heart has not changed,

On the day of our wedding,

Please put the full jade piece on me.

If you've changed your mind,

Then just return the piece to me.

I will then understand what you mean.

I will shoulder all the shame,

But I will not force you to marry me.

General.

Give this to Shen An.

Remember, personally hand it to him.

Yes!

Young lord, Song Ning of the Kingdom of Wei has sent you a letter.

She said it had to be personally delivered to you.

-Let him come in.-Yes.

Please come in.

General, your letter.

-Take him to get his reward.-Yes.-Thank you, General.

Please.

Young lord! Young lord!

This is terrible! Miss Liu hurt her foot!

Where is she? Hurry and take me there.

Qiqi.

Let me take a look.

How could you be so uncareful?

Spraining your ankle just by playing with a shuttle.

Come.

Come!

Thankfully, you didn't twist it too badly.

The bone should be fine. I'll go bring you some medicine.

Qiqi,

this medicine is good for taking down swelling.

It's very helpful. I'm just afraid that it'll hurt.

So I'm putting on some cooling ointment for you first.

It will be more comfortable this way.

What is this?

This is the marriage gifts from the general's household.

Has General Shen given me a letter?

-You can leave.-Yes.

It's good if he doesn't have one for me either.

At least it's not a rejection.

Ah Ning, tomorrow is the day of the wedding.

Have you thought things through? You can still turn back now.

Big Brother, I've already thought things through. I will not regret it.

Zhen'er, I'm sorry.

I'll go accompany you very soon.

But now I have my own personal thoughts.

I want to love. Now I can go to be beside the one I love.

Even if I'll be condemned,

I still want to try.

Zhen'er, I know you hate the Kingdom of Chen

they forsook you. If I marry the general of the Kingdom of Chen,

I will have forsaken you as well.

But Zhen'er, please forgive me.

I have no way of stopping myself.

Please bless me.

If you are watching over me from below.

I've finally waited until you arrived.

Song Ning,

Do you know how long I've waited?

Husband, I am handing myself to you.

I'm leaving myself well in your hands.

You must treasure me.

Shen An.

Do you know who should've originally sat on this marriage bed?

I heard that you were the one to propose marriage to me?

Why?

Did you know that if no one could marry from your country,

then I would have no need to go through with this marriage?

Song Ning, why did you have to do this?

Is it because I was your enemy on the battlefield?

Or was it on the day you tried to do an assassination, I blocked your sword?

Could it be that you didn't investigate before

that I already had a fiancee?

But you said you wanted to marry me!

I am still someone's vassal.

They used Qiqi's life to force me to do this.

But, I don't hope to gain anything from you.

I'm also asking

that you do not ask for anything from me.

I have never wanted to ask for anything from you!

-I just-!-That's good then.

Shen An!

Could it be that you have never...have never-?

Song Ning,

No matter what wrongs have happened between us before,

that is all the past.

I hope you can understand

that between us, nothing ever started,

and there will never be a future.

Come come come! Let us go congratulate General Shen,

on becoming the Kingdom of Wei's Generalissimo! Let us drink!

Good! Good! Drink!

Good, let us have another cup!

Congratulations!

Drink! Let's have another cup!

General Song, now the kingdoms of Wei and Chen are one family!

An'er has just risen to his position.

In the future, he will still need you to take good care of him.

An'er, General Song is not only your fellow lord,

he is also your brother in law.

You and Song Ning are also united in matrimony.

Our family is affection upon affection!

Come! Let us drink this cup!

Generalissimo Shen,

I will have to leave my younger sister to you from now on.

I hope that you can take good care of her. I will drink first.

I still have things to do. I will leave first.

-Our mansion hasn't been so festive in a long time!-Yes!

The young lord is going to be the generalissimo of the Kingdom of Wei!

Of course all the lords of the court will have to come greet him.

If the young lord goes to the Kingdom of Wei, then of course the young madam will have to go too!

She is of the Kingdom of Wei!

Then that is hard to say! The young madam has married here for three months already,

The young lord has never gone to her room even once!

You cannot say rash things!

How would I dare? Go ask people in the back villa.

Who doesn't know that the young lord likes the girl in the villa?

If the king hadn't arranged the marriage, she would have become our young madam long ago!

-Hello young madam!-Hello young madam!

Is what they say true?

Young madam, don't listen to their nonsense.

All the maids in the front mansion

all like to spread rumors.

I am Shen An of the Kingdom of Chen.

I...want to take you as my wife.

I hope you can understand,

That between us,

Nothing ever started,

And we will have no future.

Young madam. I didn't know that you were here.

Are you looking for this?

Precisely.

The couple of us were kicking this around with Miss Liu over there.

It flew too high and flew over here.

I didn't scare you, did I?

Miss Liu?

The one living in the villa?

Yes.

I like kicking this too. Let us kick it together.

Come!

Come, let us go again!

It's you?

You are here too?

Looks like Shen An really isn't someone who forsakes those who help.

Where is your father?

Am I very scary?

Why are you so afraid of me?

Isn't this my jade piece?

Why is it with you?

Why is it with you?

-Let go!-What are you doing?

Qiqi,

are you okay?

Song Ning, what are you doing?

Qiqi?

You are Liu Qiqi?

This is Qiqi's jade piece.

What are you taking it for?

How could it be Qiqi's?

Did you not read the letter I sent you?

Did you forget that it's the symbol I left you?

Have you forgotten what happened in the open country on snow mountain?

You dare to talk about the open country?

During the battle on the open country, our 50,000 soldiers

were all killed under your wandering flame!

Even though my country took over the Kingdom of Wei in the end,

But this bloody grudge, I will never forget it!

If Qiqi didn't save me on the snow mountain,

I'm afraid I'd just be a ghost on the battlefield right now!

Then would I still have the fortune of marrying you?

How could it be that she saved you?

I was the one who saved you!

Do you know what you're saying?

Song Ning,

You are the one who used wandering flame to harm me!

The girl who saved me used skills learnt from ancient writings. Do you understand?

The one who saved me was highly skilled in medicine.

And she couldn't talk, that was Qiqi!

Don't think that just because Qiqi can't talk,

that I will listen to what you say!

Qiqi, let's go.

Tell him the truth!

Have you made enough of a fuss?

Everyone stop!

Shen An! Is that how you treat my little sister?

Elder General,

Is this the way of our countries being united?

Shen An! Hurry and apologize!

I'm not wrong. I won't apologize!

Let's go.

Come back with me.

I won't leave.

Ah Ning! If I didn't see with my own eyes,

I wouldn't know that you were spending your days here this way!

Ah Ning! Even if Shen An is now the Kingdom of Wei's generalissimo,

We don't need to submit to him!

Now under my hands, there are 10,000 soldiers.

Even if I can't change the situation completely,

it won't be hard

to make his position unstable.

Big brother, this is a family issue.

Don't drag the country into this.

Your marriage was originally a country matter!

He shouldn't treat you this way!

If I didn't make a move today,

His sword might have gone into your body!

Ah Ning, I can only watch over you temporarily.

I cannot watch over you for life!

If you insist on being together with him,

how can I be at ease?

Big brother, I understand that you are worried about me.

I will only continue to say this.

I chose this type of life.

You still have the power to retaliate!

Even if our Song family loses our lord status,

gets dragged down, as long as you say you want to leave,

I will immediately take you away!

Ah Ning,

you like him, right?

That's why you married him.

Don't think that I couldn't see anything.

Ah Ning, I know you best.

Even if you care for your people,

you still would not marry a stranger for this reason.

Besides, he is a person we have a grudge against.

The days that you went missing,

you were together with him, right?

So you always knew.

Or else, do you think I would have agreed

to let you marry in place of the princess?

I originally thought

that you would be happy this way.

But I was wrong.

Shen An put a sword to you for another woman.

He doesn't have you in his heart.

He was just misunderstanding me.

Misunderstanding?

Ah Ning, even if this misunderstanding wasn't there,

would you be happy?

He has no heart towards you!

Do you have any guarantee that you can make him love you?

I don't know.

I really don't know.

Ah Ning,

You must remember, don't force yourself anymore.

No matter what time it is, as long as you want to leave,

I will immediately take you away!

Qiqi.

I didn't protect you well.

This won't happen anymore.

No! It was my fault.

I shouldn't have argued with the young madam.

Don't say that. She was the one who was wrong.

In th future, I won't let you suffer at all.

What's wrong? You're afraid of Song Ning?

She must hate me for stealing your heart.

You don't need to worry. She is just the young madam by name.

To me, you are the most important.

This...wouldn't be very good, would it?

Don't worry. Leave everything to me.

Take good care of her. If you need anything, just tell the housekeeper.

Yes, Young Master.

Young Master.

Old Master is looking for you.

How is she?

Qiqi was shocked.

Do you only see that mute?

I was asking about Song Ning.

What about her?

You are clueless. Even though you and Song Ning don't have any feelings for each other,

you shouldn't have done that in front of her.

Do you know how many people are eyeing the post of the Generalissimo of Wei kingdom?

But before you even do anything, news about a clash between you two has already spread!

I'm afraid that someone will take advantage of this situation and make a big deal out of it!

The court has always been against me.

Even if what happened today didn't occur, do you think things would go smoothly?

But you shouldn't have let Song Yan see that!

He is a military lord of the Kingdom of Wei.

Under his hands, he has 10,000 soldiers!

If he were to revolt against you, the first person he won't let off will be His Highness.

Father. I only know how to fight in battles.

I don't yearn for the post of the Generalissimo.

The person I want to marry is also not Song Ning.

Whatever I can do is already beyond the boundary.

Please don't force me again.

Bastard.

Will you be happy only if I forced her to leave?

Isn't this so?

Since things are like this, I can only ask that you forgive me.

In the future, I will not be able to be filial again.

I will take Qiqi out of this mansion.

Please ask the king to give my generalissimo position to another person!

You!

Father, please take care.

Qiqi?

Who told you to bring Miss Qiqi here?

It was me.

Leave.

Qiqi. Why are you doing this?

This is between my father and I. Don't get involved.

Miss Liu is an understanding person.

Everything is because of me.

Don't become a criminal because of me!

Qiqi, don't do this.

Qiqi, don't do this.

Qiqi.

Enough, I will yield to you.

Remember my words. Apologise to Song Ning immediately.

Young Master. It's late. What's the matter?

Where is Song Ning?

Madam is in the house.

Young Master, did you drink?

You are the only one in my life.

I will never regret.

Miss, do you agree to it?

I'm here to apologise to you.

Are you happy now?

I didn't tell you to do this.

It's true that you did not. You just made me look bad in front of everyone.

Song Ning. Why do you hate me so much?

You don't like to see me and Liu Qiqi getting along?

I'm not. Why would I do that?

You didn't? Why then?

It can't be that you like me.

What if I say yes?

Do you think I would believe you?

Song Ning. If you didn't use the Wandering Flames to burn me, perhaps...

Perhaps what?

Never mind.

I'm here today to admit my mistake.

From now on, we will have no associations.

Don't go bother Liu Qiqi anymore.

You are here because of her.

Remember this.

Shen An.

Why don't you believe me? Why don't you think..

Looks like you really like me.

I...

You must spent a lot of time thinking about this

to marry on behalf of your Princess.

You want to represent Qiqi now?

I didn't.

Since you want to be Mrs Shen that much,

fine. I will grant your wish today.

I'm telling you this not for you to behave this way to me.

Then since you would rather die,

Why must you still force yourself to marry me?

You really don't understand?
