make sense of this.

How does the instrument work?

How do such unearthly sounds come out of a simple string in the wind?

Let's see here.

Any taught string will vibrate freely at a certain fundamental frequency, but it

also vibrates at every multiple of that frequency.

That is to say, a string will vibrate at a certain speed when you pluck it.

But it is at that same time vibrating twice as fast and three times as fast

and four times as fast and so on.

The harmonic series.

These numbers and their relationships are the basis of all conceptions of

harmony. But if we keep going up the numbers and multiplying, things stop

sounding so harmonious.

Nature is our model for beauty, but our modelers can only follow its forms so

far.

simple multiple numbers in a simple string continue to delight and baffle

our ears the harmonic series just a simple series of numbers being a natural

property it should be less surprising how nature can reveal itself to us take

a taut string outside in the wind and if the speed of a long gust of wind blowing

through that string comes close to any of those harmonic numbers then that

harmonic will vibrate without anyone or anything touching it.

Well, without anything but air touching it.

And while we humans have a preference for the lower numbers of the harmonic

series, the wind has no such clivity.

The lower harmonics we find so familiar mix with the alien sounds of the upper

multiples.

The sound of the wind on a string, not of our world, and yet wholly of this

earth's nature.

But to find its implications for musical practice, what does this mean for the

musician?

What are the aesthetic possibilities?

Can simple properties of the universe be arranged for a human?

The instrument is called the Aeolian harp, named for Aeolus, the Greek god of

wind.

Its origins are likewise semi-mythical.

One oral account traces the phenomenon back to prehistoric Greece with the

story of a shepherd stretching strings of goat intestines out to dry on a windy

seaside cliff.

Gusts of wind caused these long strings of goat gut to vibrate, producing

otherworldly sounds from what was, for the shepherd, everyday material. So,

with the help of the god Aeolus and his wind, some lonely Grecian shepherd

discovered that strings could produce sound at all.

At least that's how the story goes.

That the Aeolian harp was the original lyre and the lute.

and the guitar and the violin and the piano and the harpsichord.

All other stringed instruments came from that first experience of nature and

physics.

I feel like going to work today.

Fuck. Good morning.

Good morning, baby.

You gonna have a good day?

Yes, you are. You're gonna have a great day.

Again? Guess I forgot again.

I'd rather not go to sleep listening to all this spooky shit.

I know.

I'm sorry.

Well, you can pay the electric bill this month.

I'll turn off everything tonight.

I gotta go to work.

I'll see you later.

See you later.

Hair looks nice.

That red sweater.

Yeah.

Have a good day. You too. Yeah.

And honestly, I'll be frank with you.

I think Revolver makes the best security systems on the market.

At least in America.

ADT, Guard Dog, CPI.

Sure, they make decent alarms.

But Revolver alarms comes with added security.

The security that the men and women installing, surveilling, and dispatching

to your home care just as much about your property as they do theirs.

That's why, sir, madam, I believe I'm the right fit for the head of sales

division.

Because with a product this good, it practically sells itself.

Wow. That was pretty good.

How long did it take you to write all that?

The writing part is easy. It's all in the delivery.

You know, bigwigs and upper management, they care about passion more than they

do all that technical baloney.

That's why I'm the right fit.

Sure, I don't have a degree, but I've been selling alarms for almost eight

years, Ollie.

They'll see how strongly I feel about this product.

Yeah, well, I am sure that speech will impress them.

Gee, thanks, Ollie.

I worked really hard on it, too, man.

Yeah, it shows. I think they'll love it.

Enough of all this work talk, man. How about you, me, and at least hit up a

Dave & Buster's sometime soon?

Man, I got a power card that's burning a hole in my pocket.

Pictures and burgers on me, man.

It sounds like fun, but I think I actually have plans coming up. Oh, yeah?

What kind of fucking plans?

Well, I saw this flyer the other night, and I think I'm about to be playing an

open mic.

Where? At Bingo's.

Bingo's? Hell yeah, man!

That's the big time, Ollie. Best mozzarella sticks in town, too. Good

job, bud.

Hey, it's not that big of a deal, bro. It's just open mics. Yes, it is. You

think I started here as magic?

Hell no. I had to work my way up.

That's the kind of attitude you need to maintain.

I'll look your obstacles in the eye and say, fuck you. I'll conquer you. I'll

conquer life.

You're going to rock that place down, man.

You know, it's kind of embarrassing, but what kind of music do you play?

It's like weird experimentalist type stuff. It's probably boring. Listen, if

you do any requests.

Play something by the Eagles. You know, heartache tonight instantly gets me

going, man.

Best-selling band of all time, Ollie. Did you know that, Brian?

Yes, sir.

Oliver, how you doing? I'm doing well. How are you?

Good. Good to see you. Good to see you, too.

Go ahead and take a seat. Sure.

As long as you have a work of genius for me.

Well, a new piece I've been composing.

Hopefully I can get some opinions from you.

Hope to help.

So how are the students this semester?

Adequate.

Some really talented musicians, but most just want to become goddamn DJs.

So, don't worry.

You're still my favorite pupil of all time. Are you?

You know, the older I get, the less and less I understand what they're talking

about or what they're listening to.

My God, I've become what I used to hate.

Well, hopefully this will inspire you.

Open your mind a bit.

You're talented, but no one's that talented, I'm afraid.

Now that's a throwback. You know how I roll.

Well, you are the only person I think I can trust to give me an honest critique.

Well, I'm flat.

It was thought-provoking.

That's it?

What were you trying to say with it? I guess I'm just curious.

I don't know. I wanted it to feel like a science

lecture, right? Like describing the fabric of the universe through music.

showing how every note is a physical property of the universe.

And you want to keep it simple so that people can listen and understand.

Exactly.

Who is your audience for this exactly?

Well, I'm actually planning on playing an open mic tomorrow night.

An open mic night?

You got any place in mind?

There's this bar downtown.

They do music and comedy on the weekends, so...

Bingoes. Bingoes. Yes, exactly.

Oliver, I like what you have here. Yeah.

I just want you to manage your hopes in a healthy way.

Do you understand?

Hey.

So, you want me to come with you to the show tonight?

Not really.

I think it might make me a little nervous if you're there.

Okay, cool.

And what are you going to play?

I'm not sure yet.

Well, don't play anything too weird.

I bet when Philip Glass first got on stage, they probably thought it was a

little weird.

You're not Philip Glass.

I mean... Thank you.

Just saying.

You know, maybe your music is a bit out there for some people.

I like your songs, you know that.

Yeah, well, they're free to hate it, but at least I have a captive audience.

They might run you out of there like Frankenstein's monster.

Well, that's a reaction.

Look, I just want to go and try once, publicly.

Maybe someone will like it.

Well, I just think, I mean, it should help you to have realistic expectations,

that's all.

Don't you want enough money to start a family soon?

Maybe save for retirement?

Afford a new car?

How did a talk about an open mic become a talk about money?

Because we're not getting any younger, Oliver.

You don't like your job now.

That's fine. There's other prospects.

But don't you want a career?

I don't want you putting all your eggs in one basket, okay?

Maybe, just maybe, we can start focusing on our future.

Something more manageable, you know?

Together.

Great. Well, when you start paying my half of the rent, then you can start

telling me what my career goal should be.

We can keep this civil.

You just want me to be some middle manager office type dude.

No, I want to be able to afford a house eventually.

Okay, so I'm going to go downtown now and go get me a degree in accounting and

payroll.

Hi. Hi, I'm Oliver Russell.

I'm a musician.

I do like weird experimental-ish type stuff.

Some of my influences are people like Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk

and Philip Glass, who you may have heard of.

So I borrow from ancient Greek musical theory, Pythagoras mainly.

Hell yeah, Oliver!

I love you, buddy!

Rock and roll!

Sorry. Sorry about that.

So the piece I just played is one of my original pieces.

It's called Movement of the Heavenly Spheres.

So I'm going to play one more.

Peace for you guys tonight.

It's called Silence in B Minor.

Fuck me.

Come on, motherfucker. Please come on.

Please work.

God damn it, yes.

Alright.

Alright, fuck it. Let's just go with this.

Damn, this shit's boring.

Hey! Play something better!

How much do you think he

paid for all that equipment?

Yeah, honestly.

He's wasting his money. He needs to get a fucking real job.

You got this, Ollie.

How many Instagram followers you got?

Less than 100.

I bet no one likes this.

Not even his mom.

Nice job, you beggars.

Fuck off, man.

Make shit somewhere else.

That's okay.

I understand.

I will uphold your arm.

Hey, what did you say about my friend?

Let me tell you one thing. That man back there? Yeah.

Yeah, that man that you were insulting?

That's my friend.

He's a good guy.

But me?

I'm not like him.

I'm fucking crazy.

And I will kill you.

What? Calm down, dude.

This ain't that serious.

Jesus Christ, bro. If I decide to beat you down...

On the corner here.

On the concrete.

Nothing that we can need right now. Look at them. Look at them.

I can tell.

But you know what?

I'm going to let you go.

Because some of us have to be productive members of society tomorrow.

Nothing you little fuckers know nothing about.

Just remember.

What you going to do, man? What you going to do?

What are you gonna do?

Shut your mouth.

Just remember, that guy you were picking on has more goodness and talent and

drive than any of you little future french fry serving motherfuckers.

Have a good night.

Sorry I didn't come tonight.

It's fine.

No, I shouldn't have been there.

It's probably best you didn't.

Listen, I know it may seem like I don't support your dreams, but I really do.

I just get so worked up and frustrated

about everything. You know, work and bills and...

And I get even more frustrated because, like, everybody else is just going

around and doing whatever. And I'm sitting here worried all the time.

Yeah.

Yeah, it's okay.

And I'm sorry, too.

I don't know. I just, I get so fucking sensitive sometimes.

And I work so hard.

asking for much just something just something

when we're both long gone that someone here will know

i existed i don't know what the hell i was

thinking going up there tonight

Playing in a dumb bar with a bunch of dumb drunks. It's not your audience.

You know, you gotta play to your crowd.

Yeah.

You're right.

I gotta get up early tomorrow.

Yeah, you head on in. I'll be in there later.

You gonna be okay?

Yeah.

Are you sure?

Yes.

Yeah, he's such a good friend.

Leaving me in the fucking dirt.

Yeah, let's go to the bar and

listen to some fucking music.

I got a song.

What's up?

You like my singing?

Dude, I'm fucking happy you're here.

I've had the worst night.

I just need someone to talk to.

That's all I need.

One guy punched me in the face and all my friends left.

He didn't leave his friend, no.

That blonde guy stayed with his friends till the end, dude.

You got a minute?

Dude, I... Come here, bro.

Come here.

Come here. It's all right.

Eh.

See? Dude, you know, the strangers are the nicest part.

of this town. Dude,

this world's crazy.

You just gotta keep going no matter what.

Hey, sorry I'm late here. I had some things to take care of.

You alright, man?

You're looking kind of sick.

I just checked my email this morning.

Upper management said I wasn't qualified for the director of sales manager

position. I am so sorry.

Fuck. Fuck all of it.

Eight years I've been here.

Went above and beyond every day.

Taking everything they've done with me.

Pay cuts.

Shortening our lunch breaks.

Taking our PTO.

For what?

Huh?

I don't have anything, Oliver.

Nobody either.

I mean, my work is my life.

They won't even let me prove it, brother.

Fuck them.

Come on, Gary. Like, that is not true.

You are...

Great salesman you can outsell anybody in management.

I mean hell look at how many more alarms you sell in me

If

revolver doesn't value

you and see you as their best fucking employee then another company will

believe me

Maybe you're right.

I mean, between me and you, CPI has far better response times.

Half our dispatchers here don't even care about customer satisfaction.

All they want is their paychecks.

They don't care.

Not like me and you, brother.

We're old school.

I bet you could start your own alarm company, and this place would be out of

business in a week.

Absolutely.

Damn, Wally.

That's actually not a bad idea.

You know?

I mean, who knows more about the biz than me, right?

I doubt anyone.

You really think so?

Absolutely not.

That's smart.

No lip.

Quality cake.

Innovation.

Genius, Gary.

So, Oliver, uh, uh, we gotta address the elephant in the room, man. That is?

I know your concert didn't go as planned the other night.

But, uh, I just want you to know, man, you're talented as fuck.

Fuck those drunk idiots, right?

Yeah, you're right.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

No problem, bro.

Did you make any more those flyers

So baby, cops said no one in

the neighborhood saw this guy.

Did you get a good look at him?

I told you no.

It was big. It was scary. I don't know. I just know it moved like it was a

shadow.

I don't know, okay? I don't know.

Okay.

Okay.

Look, let's see what we're going to do.

I'm going to take off tomorrow and you can take off tomorrow.

I said I don't want to be here. I don't want to be here. I don't want to be

here. I just... Will you stay in the room with me tonight?

Please? Of course, baby.

Baby, come here.

Elise. Elise.

What the hell are you doing?

Elise, stop.

Do not worry. We're going to find him soon.

It's too fat and too slow to have gotten too far.

I know.

I just keep thinking about that man.

Like, why would somebody even do that to us?

I don't know. It could be unrelated, maybe.

But we will increase that reward.

We've got a couple hundred in our emergency fund.

All right.

I'm going to get going.

Okay.

Hey, babe?

yes can you do me a favor can you come straight home from work yeah i don't

want to be here by myself okay i will

oh you want me to carry you to work today you can

come on

hello

Is this the owner of the home?

Hell no, my name's Bess. Um, can I speak with him?

Yeah, hold on one sec.

Hello, Mr.

Smith. This is Oliver Russell.

I work with homeowners like you to help you feel safer at home.

Harvey! Hey, man, thanks for calling.

Yes, yes, yes, you are all set up for Thursday.

Yes, we got you the A-List series, and we have you set up for...

9 a.m., man. I cannot wait to see you.

Yes, sir. No, no, thank you.

Thank you.

Now, you have a great one. All right.

You too now. Bye-bye.

Yo, Alan.

What we doing for lunch?

Brought mine from home.

Come on. That's a shame, man. I heard that new A-Rab place down the street

makes a mean cabal.

I was going to treat you.

I think someone stole my dog.

Stole your dog?

Yeah. It's so random.

He never runs away.

Man, someone broke into the house last night. Chased after Elise and chased her

into the street. What the hell, Oliver? Is she okay?

Did she call the police?

Yeah, she's alright.

We called the cops.

They didn't find anybody.

But I swear, it's like someone is after us.

Hold on.

God damn, Oliver.

You got any enemies at all?

No neighbors that don't like you?

Of course you don't. No, I mean, we keep to ourselves.

You got security cameras?

No.

Look, I'm gonna come by Saturday morning and do an install.

I keep some inventory at my house.

Jesus, Oliver.

A man's gotta feel safe in his own home.

You know I got your back, right?

Three out of three, mounted and ready.

I'll come back in the morning for an hour or so and run the lines up through

the ceiling, but they're ready to go, man.

Now, these are the AD3001s, A-series, best you can get. It

gives you panoramic coverage all over your yard, and you can even install an

app on your phone to get coverage that way, too.

Thanks, Gary.

No problem, buddy. I have to give you some money or something, man. There's no

way I can let you... Money? From you?

Ollie, you're my best friend, man.

But I tell you what.

You can take that money and invest in a business for me and you.

All right.

It's beer 30.

Think I can get a brewski from you, bro?

That I can do.

Hell yeah, buddy.

Sir. Thanks.

Cheers. Cheers.

So good.

You're lying.

So, I didn't want to say anything, but those cameras can only do so

much. Yeah, that's why I keep a baseball bat by the bed now.

I think you're going to need a little something more.

Some fucking maniac decides he wants to break in, you hold on to that.

And if this fucker's ready for round two, you shut him down quick like the

Clintons would.

Gary, I cannot take that.

Come on, why not?

Dude, I don't have that in me.

Plus, if Elise saw this shit, she'd fucking flip.

Aw, geez, Oliver.

I respect the hell out of that, man.

You stick by your principles.

pacifism and all.

But, uh, if that's something that decides he wants to try it again, don't

bother calling 911.

You call me, because I ain't no damn Democrat.

You thought any more about our, uh, business idea?

Well, yeah, about that... It's a foolproof plan, Oliver.

I'm basically a fucking encyclopedia of the business.

With your smarts, we could be the next SimpliSafe.

Hell, even ADT.

We just need some capital, but we'll get that later, right?

Gary, that is a really big... I know you're focused on your music career

right now, but let's be genuine here.

Music business these days, I'm just saying, people want to feel safe.

Alarm systems sell.

I'm not saying you gotta quit playing music altogether.

Just put it on the back burner for now.

Oh, soupy, soupy, soupy.

Mom.

Mommy. Mommy, come on, you gotta eat supper now.

Come on, Mom.

I didn't hear you come home, son.

I went out for a bit.

With your friends?

Yeah, with Oliver.

You look tired, Mommy. Did you fall asleep?

Yes. I was watching a movie and I guess I dozed off.

You need anything?

Did you take your medicine tonight?

No. That big bottle.

This one?

Yes, it makes me not so hungry.

Okay.

I'll call the doctor Monday for you, okay?

Thank you, honey.

I gotta get up early in the morning.

Okay, honey.

If you need anything, you ring this bell, and I'll come running, okay, Mom?

Put it right here.

Okay, son.

I'm gonna leave the door open for you, okay?

Okay, I love you.

Sweet dreams.

Damn, this guy's smart.

Be the best you can be, Gary.

Oh, you're gonna go far, dude.

You're gonna go so far.

I gotta say, Oliver, you're a genius.

You're my best friend too, bud.

What a smart guy.

He'll be rolling in dough, man.

Selling his lawn.

What the fuck is that?

Let me check it out.

Hey bud,

you're trespassing.

What the fuck is that?

Hey, I'm warning you now.

I'll tell you right now, you're trespassing.

Motherfucker don't want to listen, huh?

I got something for you, cousin.

I'm going to show you something, bitch.

Let me show you what Gary's about.

I'm going to fuck with old Gary, boy.

That's all right. I got you.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. Safety first, motherfucker.

Yeah, what now, you trespassing son of a bitch?

I will fucking shoot you!

I warned you!

You couldn't sleep in again?

No. I have a tutoring session at the school this morning.

But I shouldn't be gone too long.

Okay.

You want me to make you some breakfast?

Oh, no, babe.

I can grab something on my way, on the way to school.

Whatever. Love you.

You know what?

I'm gonna put out some more flyers today.

Damn, Gary.

Let me go, man.

Come on, man, please.

My mom's not going to find me out here.

Please, buddy.

Not like this.

Oh, hold up.

Have I ever told you the story of this building?

Follow me.

I was nervous.

Pulled it together.

And somehow we sounded good.

You know, honestly, every time we perform in here, we do well.

No, it's like there's something about this place, something transcendent.

Yeah?

What are you thinking?

I'm thinking that that's all the past now.

It's time to move forward.

Why don't you go ahead and...

it's no big deal or anything i just want to just take a little time just be here

it's been a while you know okay all right i guess i'll see you at home

I'm from upper management.

Oh.

Well, what can I do for you, sir?

It's a shame what happened to your co-worker.

It is. A shame?

Yes.

Have you found someone to fill in his old job?

We've decided to terminate the cold calling sector.

Calling randomized numbers from a phone book doesn't have the outcomes that...

We've instead opted to initiate a technology marketing division.

Focusing our efforts on online advertising will yield encouraging

results.

But what would happen with my job?

We took the liberty of recovering your resume, and upon looking at your sales

numbers over your duration here at the company, thought that you would make an

excellent candidate for the vice president of this new department.

Wow.

That sounds...

Great.

The council meets weekly.

I will tell them of this conversation.

There will, of course, be a large salary increase and far more responsibility.

Upper management often likes candidates to send a letter of interest.

Clarify in detail why you deserve this promotion.

Explain and describe your loyalty, your passion.

Your eagerness to grow old here.

Why, Revolver Security Solutions and its continued growth is the number one focus

of your life here on out.

Okay, um... Okay, I can do that.

See that this letter is done within a week.

They're eager to have this position filled.

They are not meant to be kept waiting.

Okay, I will.

Yes.

Oh my gosh, Oliver!

Baby, that's great news!

You're excited, right?

You're not going to take the job for me.

I'm so sorry, Elise.

It's just not what I want to do.

I know my open mic didn't go well, but I figure... You figured what?

What are you going to do?

I'm thinking of putting my music online.

No, I'm serious. I think I could find my niche that way.

I know my music isn't for everyone, but there are communities... Jesus Christ!

Oliver! What? I pay $250 a month in health care.

We have... taken a vacation in over two years and we barely have that much money

in savings baby this is an opportunity for us we could get out of this hole

and right now you're just you're being selfish at least

it's just not what i was meant to do oh and i was meant to work 50 hours a week

right

And then come back home for two more hours and do emailing and grading and

planning, right?

You know what?

Why is it that you are the only one that gets to follow your dreams?

I do work.

Grow up.

Oliver Russell, how you doing? I'm so sorry.

It's okay. What can I help you with?

So I'm still working on that piece I told you about, right?

But I have like a question, like more than a technical question.

It's just, I don't know who else I could come to with a question like this.

Sounds grim.

No, well, actually, this is going to make me sound like a lunatic.

No judgment.

Consider this a judgment-free zone.

Okay, I don't even know where to start.

Okay, so lately I've been reading like esoteric type stuff, right? That sounds

not out of the ordinary for you. So Pythagoras thought the movement of the

planets made music, right?

That certain chords and notes could heal people.

That music has the power to transcend our physical existence into the realm of

the spiritual.

Do you think any of those thoughts could actually be true?

Oliver, you know I'm not in the habit of telling people what to believe. You know

that. I know. I know. Me either.

But this is going to sound crazy.

Judgment-free zone.

Lately, when I've been playing music, things have a tendency

to go...

Like my music is cursed for something.

Like I have opened up a portal into another world.

Supernatural, I guess.

I don't want to get into the specifics, but let's just say it's a feeling that I

have that my music is hurting people.

You're laying a lot on me here.

I know. I'm sorry.

I don't know who else to come to.

Oliver, this is not really my area of expertise.

I can say something, though. You sound stressed. Maybe you should talk. I'm not

crazy, Professor.

I'm not calling you crazy.

I'm your friend, Oliver.

Oliver, I respect you and your talent. You work hard, and you got a lot going

on. Yeah.

But maybe you just need someone to talk to. I'm not crazy, Professor.

Listen, I respect you and your talent, but we all have moments like this. Maybe

you just need somebody to talk to you. Is there anything wrong with that?

Hey, babe.

Yeah.

Listen, this storm is really bad. I'm going to be home a little later than I

expected. I'm still going to be home just a little later than I thought,

okay? All right?

Okay. Bye-bye.

I know you're not exactly thrilled about taking this promotion, but just, I don't

know.

Happy that you're doing something to finally bring income in?

I mean, we do want to have kids, right?

College is so expensive, and we're going to need a bigger house.

Definitely can't do one vehicle anymore.

You received my memo.

Good.

Yeah.

Why are you up here?

I smoke my pipe here.

It allows me to focus while still maintaining my presence on property,

which I believe is important for company morale.

We all have our regular meditations.

It's necessary.

I also think that residing on the absolute top of the building serves as a

metaphor.

Watching over my employees.

Like the keeper of the lighthouse.

A beacon.

So you wanted to see me?

Until your promotion is finalized, I feel it's essential to maintain a

daily correspondence with you, Oliver.

The humming of these machines.

It's breathtaking.

When I was an infant, my mother would place me on the washing machine to fall

asleep. It would rock me.

I do believe that is why I, to this day, have such an affinity for lodge

machinery.

Deliciously maternal.

Everything should run as smooth as these.

There's a beauty in such things.

Why I require my company to run as it does.

Everything in its place.

Every gear lubricated, tightened.

I hope you, Oliver, can help support my dream.

Sure. I'll do the best I can.

I trust in you.

If you're smart, which I know you are, you will seize this opportunity.

Make Revolver Security Solutions your life, your reason for getting out of

bed.

If you give your all, you will be satisfied.

You can finally live a fulfilled life.

Be my gear.

Thank you. Thank you for the chance.

You're welcome, Oliver.

Meet me again tomorrow at the same time and place for our day-to-day meeting.

We must establish rapport.

Are you not hungry?

How was your day?

Every day.

Every day we have the same issues.

Can we not have one night, one dinner, where we don't talk about money or bills

or some of that other shit I find so goddamn uninteresting? Okay, okay.

Some of it. Maybe this for a change.

Maybe you ask me about something I actually care about.

Hey, Oliver, how's that new concerto coming along?

Hey, Oliver, how's that new line?

And that new song you wrote, Sound, could you play it for me after dinner?

Maybe because I don't care.

What?

It's true.

It is so true. I'm so over this.

I don't care about your music.

I've never really liked it to begin with, I mean, for being honest.

In the beginning, you know, my boyfriend, we're dating, he maybe plays

the guitar.

and listen to you say things like that to me.

I'm gonna go outside and I'm gonna cool it down.

You're tardy.

Yeah, well, I was on a call and it went a little long.

There are no justifications for tardiness from here on out, Mr. Russell.

Whether it be in service of our customers or not, do I make myself

clear?

Yes, you do.

Do you have something for me?

My letter of interest.

The board will be very interested in what you have written.

Yeah, well, thank you, and anything you need from me till then.

I'll warn you now, Mr. Oliver.

The board is thorough.

We scrutinize these letters with unparalleled consideration.

We remain uncertain of your total devotion to our founding principles.

Then termination may follow.

It is said to take a man... One million hours to gain an expertise in a given

field.

Life is much too short for competing intentions.

I expect you to feel the same.

That will be all for today.

Leave.

to upper management.

I, Oliver Russell, have decided to explore the fundamental meanings of the

universe.

To create art that shall drive the rest of history.

By doing my work, I will push humanity forward.

The future of our civilization hangs in the balance of this choice.

I will no longer be tethered to the shackles of pedestrian responsibilities.

Instead, I will do what I was created to do. Thank you for this remarkable

opportunity. My deepest love and thanks.

Oliver Russell.

You don't talk.

Are you coming home?

Are you coming home?

Alright. Alright.

That's fine.

That's fine.

I promise.

Thank you.

Should I go in there?

No.

My man will spare you the sight.

Tomorrow, you will be remembered.

She will be forgotten.

What happens next?

You invited me in.

You seek your purpose, as we are all meant to do.

I'm sorry it had to happen this way.

You masterpiece.

Play your soul away, bro.

It's nice. I like the music. It's good.

I live next door. You remember me, right?

I haven't been able to sleep for days. I don't know what time it is. You all

haven't stopped at all.

What's going on?

Where were we?
