Be careful.
I said, careful.
I'm not digging a ditch.
Yeah, Dr. Ulrich.
Forgive me.
You think I'm crazy, don't you?
No, doctor.
Yes, you do.
And you're not alone.
For as long as I've been doing this, people have been calling me a fool or
worse.
The hammer of Thor, the ultimate weapon against giants, monsters, and all other
enemies of the gods and men.
It's a myth, right?
Wrong. The hammer exists, I assure you.
Here.
With the angle good, can you see the hammer?
Yeah. Shoot the whole roll.
Every publication in the world will want a copy.
I've saved them all wrong.
Every last one of them.
In 1564, Nostradamus predicted the destruction of Earth in three terrifying
waves. The first wave is here.
My name is Cade Foster.
These are my journals.
They killed my wife, framed me for murder.
Now I run, but I don't hide.
With the prophecies of Nostradamus as my guide, I seek them.
I hunt them.
I will stop the first wave.
Quatrain 17, century 4.
Through the ancient north it shall pass, ship to ship the power of powers.
All strength to those who unearth it.
Joined together will earth itself be consumed.
Gua Intelligence Communique, intercepted by the Raven Nation, mentioned an all
-powerful weapon the Gua have spent years searching for, and now are close
to finding.
A search of archaeological dig sites turned up an excavation of a Viking
settlement in Nova Scotia.
Crossing the border into Canada was a risk.
I just hope it was all worth it.
They crash him, we trash him.
Where do you want me to put it?
Three rows down, take a right.
You got it.
Bishop, I have a bone to pick, and I demand to be heard. This is not what we
agreed to.
I can tell you right now, Channing's a problem. I don't like him.
No, it's more than that. I don't trust him.
I wish you'd told me this before the Foundation flew him in.
First class.
This could be the most important archaeological site in history, and it's
filled with broken-down public transport vehicles and amateurs.
Channing's just not what I expected.
Which was what, exactly?
Old school emeritus professor, charter member of the Archaeological Society.
A gentleman, a scholar, not some high-tech hotshot. So he hasn't invited
you for tea.
We hired Channing for his expertise, not his social skills.
This is my project, Bishop.
Something I've been working toward for the last 20 years, and none of you would
even be here if it weren't for me.
And you wouldn't be here without the Foundation's money.
What's the matter, Spider?
Afraid he'll find the hammer before you do?
Like that protege of yours tried to... What was her name?
Eldridge. And she failed.
Disappeared, in fact.
And I didn't trust her, either.
Shining.
Shining!
There you are, Doctor.
I've been getting readings in this quadrant that look quite promising.
You're not digging what I told you to dig.
Sorry, Spidell.
No idea you are to approve every move.
Just one of the many things that you have no idea about.
Excuse me, Doctor.
Here are those files you asked for.
Well, at least there's one person around here who knows how to follow orders.
Excellent work, thank you, Jane.
Very lucky to have you with us. Why, thank you, sir.
I'm just grateful for a chance to work with Dr. Sam Spidell.
It's a real opportunity.
Careful, Jane, or your lips might become permanently attached to Spidell's ass.
Do I detect a note of jealousy, Edward?
Spidell, please.
The guy's a joke.
This whole operation's a joke.
You don't believe in the hammer, Thor?
Oh, give me a break.
It's like the Golden Fleece, the Fountain of Bute, the Holy Grail.
There's a reason these things are still myths. They don't exist.
Then how did the Vikings travel thousands of miles in what's basically a
big rowboat?
They rowed?
Yeah, well, Sprite Hell's convinced us through some special power of the
hammer. Look, I'm the first guy to believe the unbelievable.
But we know that the Guas started sending the first wave in the 1940s.
There's never been any indication that they even knew about Earth before this.
Well, live and learn, Eddie.
Dammit, where's Foster?
We're the only one risking our asses out here.
Loud and clear.
We'll get a move on.
It's not nice to keep her waiting.
Jordan, I'm almost there.
Talk me in. I'm coming up on the south side of the camp.
The big tent is the command center.
Bishop, the dig supervisor, keeps all the records in there.
If there's any hard evidence that this dig is Gua, that's where it would be.
What about security?
There's an armed guard posted at the main site.
He's not a problem.
I saw the lead man and Ash go out in the yard, so watch your back.
Show me.
Oh,
come on,
doctor. It's a joke.
A happy dig is a successful dig. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. Bishop?
I'll be happy when we are successful.
Touché. Well said.
No hard feelings. Bye now.
Break's over.
Everybody back to work.
She's heading straight for the...
There he is.
Jordan,
I found something.
Jordan, you there?
Yeah, Kate, I'm here.
What is it?
What'd you find?
Yo, stop right there!
What do you mean, you're moving the dig?
While pursuing the intruder, Mr. Ash noticed something that indicates we've
been digging in the wrong place.
He can't even do his job, now you want him to do mine? This is my call.
Well, this is my dig, Bishop.
Not anymore.
I'm taking over.
Get out of the door.
Mark it.
Oh! I am booked.
Foster must have got out.
If they'd caught him, they'd bring him back here.
It was weird, Eddie.
One minute we're talking, then nothing like static.
It shouldn't be. We're a quick and steady art.
I think he might have found something in Bishop's tent.
So what do we do now?
Without Foster here, we're screwed.
We keep our cover.
We keep moving forward.
No disrespect, Jordan, but Foster's a straw that stirs a drink.
I don't think we can do this without him.
We're a team, Eddie.
The sum of the parts is greater than the whole. Remember that.
Oh, where'd you learn that? Sun suits are the war.
Call him in the Times.
Ask April.
Ask April?
Advice for the love line?
Okay, let's assume Foster's out.
Until we hear from him, we keep moving forward.
Something's up.
You spy, Del. Something's always up, especially around you.
I'll go check it out.
I'll keep an eye on Bishop.
You're moving the dig?
No, not me, Bishop.
He's taking over.
He seems to think the head of security knows something more about where to find
the hammer than I do.
Really?
I thought I heard gunfire.
Oh, ash.
Got somebody snooping around.
Good Lord. Anyone hit?
Apparently not.
Then he saw some sort of energy field in another part of the yard.
Energy field?
Well, that would be consistent with your theories of the hammer's physical
properties. Yes, but the main camp was here. Why would something as valuable as
the hammer be someplace else?
That's a good question.
Unless maybe there were two camps.
Like that dig of yours in Gotland. Where was that?
Sanda or Maru? That's correct.
Sanda. Maru.
Which one?
Sanda.
Although Maru was quite close.
Sanda and Maru are hundreds of miles apart.
Close, but so far.
It's all a state of mind, really.
It's a fascinating sight.
Perhaps I should lend a hand.
I bring good news, Mavis. I expect nothing less.
We have seen the signs.
It may be finally within our grasp.
To use a human name, the Hammer of Thor.
Strange. They gave their god of thunder's name to something so uniquely
gore.
Thunder's an appropriate image when they see its true power.
This must be it, Eddie.
The Gwa weapon, the power of powers.
Damn it, where the hell is Foster?
He would have contacted us by now.
Damn straight.
Look, until we reach him, this is you and me. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're a team.
The sum makes more than the whole of the part.
Just listen to dear old April.
Okay.
So what are we going to do? There's only one thing we can do.
Make sure we get the hammer or whatever the heck it is before Bishop does.
That's it?
That's the plan?
Do you have a better idea?
We can do this, Eddie.
With or without Foster.
We have to.
Now, come on.
The findings are promising, I'll admit it.
In judging from the artifacts we found so far, I'd say that the settlement was
built around the year 1000.
Right around the time Leif Erikson sailed west from Iceland.
Well, common wisdom is he only made it as far south as you found it.
But their legends suggest that Leif sent a ship ahead.
A special ship that could move magically through time, through space.
A ship powered by the hammer.
Legends also say they were punished by the gods.
Jealous of the Vikings' power, they sent a bolt of fire down from the sky to
strike the hammer, which of course led to the decline of the Vikings.
Dr. Spidell, you might want to look at this.
I'm getting some amazing subsurface electromagnetic activity.
Well, maybe Bishop was right after all. Over here!
Here!
You know, these readings really are strange.
The only time I've seen electromagnetic activity like this is in quantum
pockets.
Here comes trouble.
We need to talk, Dr.
Chan.
At your service, as always. You can drop the act.
I just had his office on the phone.
The real Charles Channing is on a dig in Libya.
I assure you, sir, I didn't trust him from the start. Let's go inside.
You can tell us all about it. You too.
I've noticed these two getting mighty chummy lately.
Take your time.
We're in no hurry.
Mr. Ash is just getting warmed up.
Okay, okay.
So I'm not chanting.
But I know more about antiquities than this guy or any other egghead
archaeologist. Especially when it comes to knowing what things are worth on the
open market.
You're a treasure hunter.
You call it science.
But you're in this rack for the same things that I am.
The buzz, the cash, and a little graveside groupie to share it with.
How dare you drag Dr.
Spydell down to your level?
That's enough.
Leave us.
All of you.
I want to talk to him alone.
Why don't you tell me who you really are?
Name's Cutter.
Jake Cutter.
Used to broker stolen antiquities for other people.
Lately, I found it's more profitable to cut out the middleman.
The intruder who was here yesterday, you two working together?
Oh, no, my friend. I work alone.
Less people to split the money with.
Or get rid of.
You know what I mean?
Doesn't really matter.
Because either way, I'm gonna have to get rid of you.
You know what I mean.
They found it.
Spidell says he found the hammer.
Tie him up.
If he tries to escape, kill him.
Finally, after all these years.
Give me some pictures of this.
Haha.
I'm running for the answer.
He's dead.
Jonas!
Eddie!
Huh?
Jonas!
Is anybody out there?
Spinal?
Okay, buddy.
Hand it over.
Oh, what? You gonna shoot me?
No. They will.
Stop!
Him! Channing! Whatever his name is! He's the one who's got it!
Find him!
Why did you take the hammer?
I just... I looked for so long. It's been my life.
And now he has it. Or was that your plan?
No, no, no, no, I swear it. The hammer's my vindication.
Years of being a laughingstock, of having no respect. Well, that's over
now.
You're right, Spydell.
The hammer's been unearthed. Your life's fulfilled.
Complete.
That's why it's over.
Yeah, Jordan, I got it. I got the hammer.
You took it from Spidell? Yeah.
Now all we gotta do is hook up and get the hell out of Dodge.
It's not that simple.
I saw Foster.
Where? Where we found the hammer.
Foster's here? In the bus yard?
I don't know where he is.
All I know is Spidell unearthed the hammer. Flash bulbs went off and
something happened with the hammer.
I mean, Foster was there, but he wasn't.
Are you all right? No.
I'm not all right.
Eddie, something happened to Foster.
I think he's in pain.
So, uh, the light did something to the hammer.
And then you saw Foster?
An image of him, like a ghost.
As if he was stuck between here and someplace else.
Doesn't make sense.
Before the radio cut out, Foster said he found something.
Do you think he could have been talking about the hammer?
How can that be? I got the hammer. At least I think I do.
I got the hammer.
Except one edge looks incomplete.
Broken. Eddie, what was that quatrain again?
All strength comes to those who unearth it.
Joined together will earth itself be consumed.
Joined together.
If the hammer was in two parts... Then maybe Foster's got the other part.
And maybe he got consumed.
Eddie, you gotta study this thing.
Figure out what makes it tick.
It's not the most optimal working conditions. The Guar are crawling all
over the place.
Leave them to me.
What have we got here?
Let's see what'll happen when we can do some juice.
Come on, baby.
Let that current flow.
Okay, Gua.
Answers.
How many Gua on the premises?
I'll lose no sleep over killing you.
Five. Who?
Bishop, myself, and the guards.
I want to know about the hammer.
Goodbye. Wait.
It's an exploration device.
The only one of its kind.
Built a millennia ago by our empiricists.
They use it to visit this planet at the dawn of your civilization.
It's now a weapon that will doom your race to extinction.
How does it work?
Allows us to bend the space-time continuum.
During a great storm that preceded your ice age, the device was lost to us.
But the Vikings found it.
Used it to travel.
Until another storm broke it into two pieces.
Legends are true.
Just when I was starting to get interested.
Jordan? Eddie?
Hang in there, buddy.
We're going to get you back.
Don't know where I am.
If you can hear me. Yeah, man.
Right here.
They have it.
When they have two becomes one.
Foster, man.
Trapped him.
Foster.
Use the power against it.
Together. Hold on.
You can do it.
No, Foster. Wait.
Wait.
This doesn't concern you.
Who's gonna blink?
Oh, I think you are.
Don't just stand there. Find him.
It's not a Viking hammer at all.
It's guar.
That's why you had Spidell help you find the site.
He served his purpose well before he died.
If you're not Spidell's assistant, then who are you?
I'm a friend of subject 117.
That's who was in my tent?
He almost had your half of the hammer.
So it was 117 who was caught by the hammer.
How about a deal?
You tell me about the hammer.
I'll tell you about 117.
I can read you like a book.
The Vikings?
They were nothing but scavengers who found something we left behind.
Something more powerful than they could ever understand.
How did 117 learn about this operation?
Nostradamus foretold it.
Just like he foretells your defeat.
The hammer was an exploratory device.
Why does Mabus want it?
How do you know about Mabus?
It's my turn, remember?
The device moves corporeal beings great distances in an instant.
Like armies.
A tool of exploration used as a weapon of mass warfare.
Sounds pretty wah to me.
How many followers does 117 have?
A hundred million.
Maybe two hundred.
You're lying.
No matter.
Still not enough.
How does the device work?
When the two parts are joined...
It creates an energy field that can overcome time and space, creating
portals in the fabric of the universe.
So how could Foster, or an army, disappear?
A disruption of the field can cause the two separated halves of the device to
act in unpredictable, erratic ways.
When the pieces are separated, the portals open just one way, at diminished
power. So that's why the Vikings' reign ended after the Hammer split.
Exactly. When joined, however, the device has power to open and close
portals freely.
Power beyond imagination.
Power. Use it against them.
Together. What about Channing? I assume he's an ally of 117.
Channing's a moron. A treasure hunter with a two-digit IQ.
One last question.
Getting tired of this?
If the hammer creates entry and exit portals in time and space, what happens
to people trapped in between?
Worried about 117?
You can survive indefinitely. Oh, that is, if you can stand the low temperature
and pressure.
Otherwise, you slowly freeze to death.
I'm tired now.
Time for you to go
I'll
make this relatively painless You can die
knowing you were at the forefront of our slaughter
Put down the axe.
That is if you want a chance of getting your precious hammer back.
So you are working together.
That's right, Buck.
And the deal's real simple.
You get the hammer, I get the girl. I mean woman.
Eddie, no!
You think I'll let you leave here alive?
Bet your ass.
If me and the senorita aren't riding into the sunset in five minutes, I'm
gonna blow your hammer to kingdom come.
The hammer is indestructible.
Maybe. But it's gonna be in a lot of pieces.
The girl!
Now!
Found it. Put it down now or I blow it sky high.
A keychain.
Nice try.
Take them outside and kill them.
You know who I am?
Eddie Nambulous.
A.K.A. Crazy Eddie.
Mr. Paranoid Times. Cade Foster's right-hand man.
And this lovely lady is Jordan Radcliffe.
See if those names mean anything to Mavis.
Take them to the main site.
Watch them closely.
I'm afraid we're going to lose Foster.
Mabus, we have both parts of the device.
Join them together.
Bring it to me.
There's something else.
Tell me.
I have also captured two humans.
A woman named Radcliffe, a man named Nambulous.
They claim to be associates of 117.
117. I have sensed his presence there.
He was caught in the medial vortex and may not still be alive.
What's your will? Use the device.
Bring them to me.
Let them kneel before me as the power of powers is restored.
prophecy is fulfilled the power of powers is once again
It's good to have you back, buddy.
It wasn't the same without you.
How'd you do it?
How'd you get me the hell out?
Just a little advice from Ask April.
As far as I can figure, this hammer is some sort of trans-dimensional
remolecularization device.
I'm going to shut it. Basically, it has the potential to move matter
instantaneously through space.
Like a Viking ship. Or a spaceship.
Or an invading army.
See, every time some sort of energy was applied to the hammer, you would
reappear. But it was malfunctioning due to the split.
And you could see me?
Yeah. You look like a ghost.
Could you see anything from in there?
No.
I don't know.
After Jordan got Bishop to disclose the hammer's malfunction, I figured the only
way to open the portal was to have these two pieces made whole again.
Nice work, Eddie.
Actually, Foster gave me the idea.
You should find a way to use the power against them.
Hammer together, and us as a team.
See, I knew that the guards would find our half, and then I figured that,
knowing who we were, they would let us stick around until they joined the two
pieces together.
And so that's what we did.
Together, as always.
It's a huge risk, Eddie. I had to take it, man. You're our leader.
We need you.
Of course, even if you did get out, I had no idea what was going to happen
next.
That was your plan?
It worked.
For now.
The hammer's still out there somewhere.
And I guarantee you, if Mavis doesn't already possess it, he's doing
everything in his power to get it back.
There are moments when your resolve is weakened.
When you feel helpless to fight something so much more powerful than
you.
Trapped in the rift created by the hammer, I couldn't help Jordan and Eddie
against the Gwa.
I'm grateful that they fought to the bitter end and never give up.
I owe them my life.
The Gua have always evaluated humans in their individual capacity for
resistance.
But as Jordan said, the team is stronger than its individual parts.
That by working together, we can rise up and stop this invasion.
The second wave grows closer every day.
Should I ever lose my life in this battle, there will be others to fight
on, just as strong.
Until we finally defeat the Gua.
