No!

Lady! Lady...

Detective, the real criminal...

Are you okay?

Let's get out of here first. Let's leave quickly.

Detective... the real criminal... over there...

It's not important right now who the real criminal is!

Detective... false charges...

- So... - Don't worry about it.

I will save you. Just trust me. Just trust me.

She'll be okay, right?

Gather up your strength. You're strong.

You'll be okay. Be strong.

Seol Ok!

How badly is she hurt?

Her life isn't in danger, right?

What do we do...?

Come on! Come back to your senses...

What's with you? What's happened to her!

- I'm sorry. - Sorry? You think sorry will take care of this?!

What are you doing, Oppa! Mom's going to faint!

Oh, I...

Mother!

Seol Ok!

- Episode 16 -

Sit down. I'll give you some tea.

I'm welcoming you back to your rightful place.

Seo Hyeon Soo...

Did she die?

I'm sick and tired of it. Let's stop talking about that.

I waited for her for 17 years. It's because I'm worn out.

I want to know if she died.

Did you order for that to happen?

No matter what, the statue of limitations has run out.

Even if I tell you the truth--

I guess it won't be any use.

Who's Ms. Yoo Seol Ok's guardian?

How is she?

We've removed the bullet.

It was next to the aorta, so it would have been lethal had it been 1 mm closer.

She's past the critical stage, right?

Because she lost a lot of blood, we'll have to wait and see.

Mother.

Lady, don't misunderstand just because I'm watching you like this.

I'm not looking at you because I like you.

It's because it's the last time. Since I won't be able to see you anymore.

I'm not interested in the truth anymore. And I want to break away from the past, too.

So you forget me, too.

I can't watch you be in danger anymore.

And I'm sorry... for what happened to your parents.

I really wanted to catch the culprit for you...

But this is as far as we'll go.

Make sure to live well. I'm leaving.

- Seol Ok! - Sister-in-Law.

Seol Ok... it's me.

Teacher... Teacher, I'm here.

What about Detective Ha?

He's busy, so he couldn't come.

What is he so busy with that he doesn't even visit once?

(Especially) When she became like this because she was trying to clear his name.

I don't know. These days, I can't even get in touch with him either.

[Director Ha Wan Seung]

You're working hard.

I quit the police and came here. Of course, I should work hard.

Wow, are you the same Ha Wan Seung I used to know?

I realized you need power in order to protect what you like.

So, that's why you're going on a blind date with the Minister of Justice's daughter?

Why? You have feelings left for me?

I'll leave first. I have a meeting outside.

Oh, why would you carry these all by yourself? You should have called me!

It's okay. I can do at least this much now.

Be careful. Don't make me have to look after you again.

Running a lunch box shop and making porridge to feed you while you were ill,

do you know how much I've aged since then?

I got it. I won't be sick anymore.

Oh, sit down and get some rest. I will take these-- Oh!

Ah, how is your new place you moved into? It seemed too small.

For living by myself, it's good enough.

Anyway, don't get divorced. Okay?

Just get back together after being temporarily separated.

Oh, I should go help Team Leader Bae. It's too much to do by himself.

Whatever. If you want to.

Did you two fight? You guys were all over each other before.

What do you mean?

Hey, he's not my style.

He helps me around the kitchen and carries heavy things for me sometimes, so I was being nice since I was thankful.

Don't even. What is it?

Seriously, it hurts my pride. I don't know if he's playing hard to get or something.

He seems to be subtly calculating. He drew a clear line.

Like, "Don't come over this line."

Not you, but he did?

Whatever. Like I care.

Oh, if you're not careful, you'll hurt yourself. Just do the cabbages.

What happened with Kyung Mi?

I mean, didn't you two like each other? You always came to the hospital together.

I'm sure you know well since you're her friend. But Kyung Mi,

you know how popular she is with men.

Yes, that's true.

Intellectual, cool, cooks well, and runs a business well, too.

There's nothing she can't do.

I see. Of course.

As for me...

I don't have anything, and I'm a detective who can't even get promoted,

old in age, and a single father with a kid.

I can't be greedy.

So you do like her.

I'm going to be content with just looking at her from afar like now.

What if someone else takes her?

I shouldn't be a roadblock to her.

I'll leave you two alone.

You've become very quick in catching on.

My cooking's improved, too.

Never mind.

Why can't I read these letters?

What is it?

I got a text from Madam Kim, but I can't read it.

Give it to me.

"Make the text font as big as possible."

- Oh my. - You can make the screen brighter, too.

You said your eyesight's not so good these days.

"Make the screen brighter."

Oh my! I can do this myself! Thanks.

Then... I don't have to clean around here now, right?

Then, you don't need an allowance from now on, right?

Ah, I didn't say I wouldn't do it.

Oh! You're not even going to wash that yourself, so stop wearing stuff like that!

It's hard to get that clean!

It's my choice.

Yeah, is this Seol Ok? I got you a TV.

I'm going to send it over, so tell me your address.

It's okay. I can use my laptop.

What do you mean, "It's okay?"

People say when someone leaves, it leaves an obvious void.

Well, the house seems to feel so empty.

And I'm bored since I only have boring Ho Soon to play with.

Even the food is unseasoned...

I kind of miss it, too.

Oh, Mother, do you have a lot of side dishes left at home?

Yes, Mother. Yes.

Oppa.

Oh, Seol Ok.

When did you come up? Mother doesn't know.

I just got off the phone with her.

You talk to my mom, but you don't answer my calls?

I have to go back down without stopping by at home, so I didn't tell her.

How is Jeju Island?

It's... all right.

Oppa,

- I-- - Don't decide yet.

It's okay.

You need time, right?

While being down at the Jeju District Prosecutors' Office, I thought,

if this was going to happen when I was at the Ansan office,

I should have solved the Sinim-dong incident.

And I should have quit being a prosecutor like a cool person.

If I had, to you, Seol Ok,

would I have been a better husband?

You said you were going to become licensed as an international lawyer. So why did you come back so soon?

I thought law school here would be better. It wasn't that special abroad.

Then what have you been doing in the States?

Just this and that. I looked into the MBA program, too,

and traveled around here and there, also.

How is Wan Seung these days?

He usually exercises in the morning and goes to work at Ha & Jeong regularly as always.

He doesn't meet up with any of his old police colleagues,

and he has frequent meetings over drinks with the legal personnel he met recently.

Nothing else significant to report?

He's developed an interest in luxury brand watches,

so nothing other than buying up expensive watches with the company card for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Find out why he went to the States.

Timing and Subtitles brought to you by The Mysterious Team @ Viki

You said you were becoming an international lawyer, so why are you back so soon?

Nonsense. At this age, why should I study? I just went to have fun.

And I looked for someone.

Who were you looking for?

I found the person already. That's what was so good about the States.

A private detective is faster than the police if you have money.

Exactly who did you find?

You'll be shocked if I tell you.

Hyeon Soo.

See? I told you you'd be shocked.

Seo Hyeon Soo? She was really in the States?

I only saw her through pictures, but she's aged a lot.

She looked a lot different than what I had imagined.

How did she get to the States?

According to the investigator, she was being chased by Jang Do Jang, so she went to Japan as a stowaway.

She met a Korean-American there, so...

Got married?

They separated soon after.

I was mistaken about my father all this time.

So what are you going to do now?

I have to make her come back.

Jang Do Jang has died, too. So as long as I'm at Ha & Jeong,

no one can touch Hyeon Soo.

Are you saying you're going to get back together with Seo Hyeon Soo?

What? Seo Hyeon Soo?

Seo Hyeon Soo? He must be crazy.

Seo Hyeon Soo is dead.

Are you sure... Seo Hyeon Soo is dead?

CEO Ha is suspicious.

I definitely buried her with Do Jang.

Jang Do Jang is already dead and gone.

Who can prove that?

Don't tell me...

You didn't hide Seo Hyeon Soo away, did you?

I am not that bold.

What is all this?

For Hyeon Soo.

I don't want her to stay in a hotel.

I wonder if she still only wears pants.

When is Seo Hyeon Soo coming?

The 29th. I've sent the plane ticket to her already.

She seemed to be having some financial difficulties.

On the 29th?

Good thing I moved into this house, right?

There isn't an appropriate place to live with her in Korea anyway.

Ah, right. I am planning a welcome party on the 30th for her. Do you want to come?

Weren't you curious about Seo Hyeon Soo?

What are you trying to do?

Seo Hyeon Soo is dead.

I buried her with my own hands.

Hyeon Soo isn't dead.

I carried her to the hospital myself.

Hello.

Please save her.

Doctor, please take a look at her.

Although she was unconscious due to heavy bleeding,

the wound itself wasn't that serious, the Doctor said.

Hyeon Soo walked out of the hospital.

I even checked the CCTVs.

She did walk out of the hospital.

Do you know why?

Because of you.

The moment he walks into this room,

I'll pull the trigger.

Get out before he comes in.

There will be a car waiting outside the hospital.

You can walk, right?

I'll ask Hyeon Soo myself.

I think it'll be a very interesting talk.

I was suspicious when you went to Ha & Jeong.

I know you. You've got a plan, don't you?

But I won't be taken easily.

You seem busy, I'll be going now.

Already? You said you had something to ask me.

It was nothing. I'll see you at work tomorrow.

Mr. CEO, this is Jeong Ji Won.

I heard that Won Seung Oppa saw Seo Hyeon Soo walking out of the hospital on CCTV.

We'll get a copy of the CCTV recording, too.

I didn't know because back then not that many CCTV's existed.

I heard they only installed it at the entrance to test it out, but of all places...

Are you telling that as an excuse?

CEO Ha has a copy of it now.

He's suspecting you now.

If CEO Ha turns his back on you,

I can't do any more for you.

I really did bury her!

Then... you know where the body is for sure, right?

Seo Hyeon Soo walking out of the hospital,

I saw it with my own eyes on CCTV.

She died right after.

How can I believe that?

You hid the fact she went to the hospital from me, didn't you?

Can Detective Go even remember where he buried her.

You're not up to something else, are you?

Are you thinking I hid her behind your back?

The item that Seo Hyeon Soo had...

did you really not find it?

CEO, I'm quite disappointed.

I want to find that (item) the most.

All I need to do is show you Seo Hyeon Soo's corpse, right?

How can a 17-year old corpse be identified?

With a DNA test, we'll have a definite answer.

We'll obtain the DNA from our side directly.

Whatever you like.

Okay.

Let me know once you set the date.

Timing and Subtitles brought to you by The Mysterious Team @ Viki

I'm here.

Live well, please.

I'm leaving.

We can catch him.

The culprit.

Lady!

Are you okay?

We can catch him... The culprit...

It's no use even if we catch him. The statute of limitations has run out.

So you heard everything I said?

Do you know what time it is?

Why would you set the meeting time if you're going to be like this?

Did you look into the terminated internal investigation case in Sinim-dong?

Yeah.

Due to the death of the victim, Yoo Ji Sun, the internal investigation was terminated, right?

You're being psychic again. How did you know?

They covered the Seo Hyeon Soo case with the Sinim-dong case.

The name Seo Hyeon Soo isn't mentioned in the will,

but it was strange that you knew the two cases were linked.

So the one who gave you the investigation file for Sinim-dong knows about it.

The taxi driver killed Seo Hyeon Soo.

If they covered the case by linking the two cases together, it means there's someone else involved other than Detective Go.

Now, there's no statute of limitations.

We just need to find the culprit.

- What's wrong with this? - Sorry, sorry.

I wasn't thinking.

How are you always late with all those expensive watches you like to wear?

They're watching me more and more closely.

That's a good sign.

And this watch is fake. I sold all my watches to rent this place.

They're all fakes!

You're here?

- You're here? - What? You're only coming now? Then why did we set up a time?!

I was the first to arrive. I was in the restroom.

Sit.

Is this an emergency meeting or what?

Team Leader!

Yeah, you came?

If you're going to sleep, then why set up a time?!

Sorry, sorry. I was on a stakeout last night.

There's no word on Detective Go. Since he's being pursued all over for the murder of Jang Do Jang.

We have to catch the one who contracted him for the murder.

A contract for murder gets the same sentence as murder itself.

But... will you be okay?

About what?

But he's your father.

Are you seeing that fox, Ho Cheol, again? It seems that way.

You're the one who talks on the phone with Jeong Ji Won way too much.

That's because of work. What? Are you jealous?

I mean, she's a Ha & Jeong employee.

Well, I'm suspicious whether you're in league with an enemy.

Why are you drinking so soon after getting discharged? Think about your health!

Since I was making some meat patties.

I don't think I can eat it without some alcohol...

[Sangkaehwan] (relieves hangovers)

I see you made something inedible again.

My cooking skill's improved a lot. You never even try tasting it.

When listening to Officer Lee who currently works in Sinim-dong,

I think the detectives who work there seem to be aiding Detective Go.

Of course, Ha & Jeong is probably behind them.

Take care of this.

Since they're all connected, Ha & Jeong probably can't throw Detective Go away.

Since they're so intricately connected.

Also, Detective Go has become more active.

He uses the pay phone by his hideaway a lot.

The talk about Miss Seo Hyeon Soo being alive has gotten into their ears well by now, right?

Of course. It's flowing well into them. I'm talking to Hyeon Soo who's in the US every day.

Secretary Pyo has been looking into my call history.

The one who contracted the murder didn't see it happen, so he probably can't believe it.

I don't know about anyone else, but Attorney Jeong definitely bit the bait.

I heard Seon Hyeon Soo is alive.

There's no way. It's false gossip.

He told someone called Chief Kim about Seo Hyeon Soo, as though he was reporting in.

Chief Kim...

I heard about him at a private club, and everyone was dying to get their hands on his contact info.

He's able to take care of all sorts of issues.

I heard Chief Kim's number changes every month.

No one knows his real name or face, but even the government's ability to get information pales in comparison to him.

Do you think Seo Hyeon Soo was killed over sensitive information no one was supposed to know?

In any case, what I am sure about is that Chief Kim handles my father's business.

Under Chief Kim is probably where Detective Go is.

We're checking the DNA with CEO Ha.

Yes. Where was the body buried?

That, I will tell you on that day.

We have to check that first, in order to--

I will take you there myself.

Do you not trust me?

But you don't trust me either, Chief Kim.

CEO Ha is leaving for Hankook Hospital right now.

Father is a bit busy these days.

He's going to the hospital when he's healthier than me.

Testing the DNA?

How do you know CEO Ha's whereabouts so well?

I bought out Ha & Jeong people with Ha & Jeong money.

Then shall we get ready slowly.

It means we're very close.

Let's go.

Timing and Subtitles brought to you by The Mysterious Team @ Viki

I thought he was exercising way too much...

It's one sweet and sour pork plus noodles with black bean sauce, right?

Yeah.

Enjoy it.

Okay, nice.

Should I take you to Hankook Hospital?

Yes.

CEO!

You want to make a deal with information on Wan Seung?

Whatever it is, he has no choice but to come back.

It's frustrating. Did you forget about that accident?

Don't forget. It doesn't end with me.

There's something bigger than Ha & Jeong.

Did you eat?

Are we close enough to ask those kinds of things?

There were a lot of things happening for you and me.

Just say what you want.

Are you better off since you've been loyal to CEO Ha?

Just get to the point.

Let's work together.

Let's take over Ha & Jeong together.

There's no need for you to bow down to CEO Ha.

What is Wan Seung's secret? His purpose for coming into Ha & Jeong.

It's something you can't handle, Brother.

This is the last time.

I will throw you out of the kitchen if you make something creative again.

Just follow the recipe to a T.

I'm following it exactly.

Stop.

I almost put in too much again.

It's not bad.

Simmering it a bit longer should do it.

I think we have a customer.

Keep stirring it so it doesn't stick.

Stir it, I said.

Detective?

He's started to move.

What is this?!

Seol Ok...

You're barred from the kitchen!

Why are you not coming all of a sudden?

If I'm on the scene,

you might think I'm switching the DNA sample.

You might be suspicious of me again.

Because I'm going alone, you might be suspicious of me--

What do you mean?

I trust you implicitly, CEO.

Fine.

I will tell you the result as soon as I have it.

Attorney Jeong,

since you gave me information,

I will give you what you want.

What do you want?

Ha & Jeong.

Why? Aren't you getting in?

You still believe that Seo Hyeon Soo is alive, right?

I know there's no chance of it.

The body... If it's hard for you to check,

then we can go alone.

It might not turn out to be Hyeon Soo.

That's true.

We can't be prejudiced.

Let's go. To check.

Keep stirring it so it doesn't stick.

Stir it, I said.

What is it? Were you really not getting in because you were scared?

How refreshing.

You even get scared.

It's here.

See?

I told you I buried her.

We'll know when we check whether or not it's Seo Hyeon Soo.

Please go down and get a sample.

- The femur area and the right rib cartilage section. - Yes.

It will take 24 hours to confirm the identity of the body.

- Make sure this doesn't get out. - Yes.

This, we'll independently check.

The results...

shouldn't turn out to be different, right?

Oh. Yes, of course.

Now, let's leave if we're done.

Clean up well, so it's not noticeable.

Huh?

Why are you... here?

I heard Seo Hyeon Soo's body was found.

So I came to check if she really died.

But why are you here?

Did you come to order a murder or something?

Did you come to check if the murder was properly carried out?

Was this a trap?

You trapped me?!

I'll tell you everything I know.

Why Wan Seung Oppa came into Ha & Jeong

and what he's doing right now.

We're arresting you for murder and disposing of the body.

You don't understand what you've done.

Punishment should be fair to everyone.

Hyeon Soo...

I told you I'd find you.

That I wouldn't die until I did.

♫ Don't say a word ♫

♫ Since I know everything ♫

- It's pretty. ♫ How the world ♫

- Thank you. ♫ Speaks about me ♫

♫ Foolish and ♫

- I love you. ♫ And that I'm naive about the world ♫

- I love you, too. ♫ And that I'm a fool ♫

I love you.

- I love you. ♫ I'm curious about that these days, too ♫

♫ As though I'm right ♫

♫ I am smiling ♫

♫ As though nothing is wrong ♫

♫ I'm living my life ♫

♫ But the time that's ♫

♫ Piled up in my heart ♫

♫ Why is it still waiting? ♫

♫ What is it expecting me to do ♫

♫ After so long a time? ♫

The CEO of the top law firm in Korea

was questioned by the police for murder.

Seventeen years ago, CEO Ha ordered the killing of

Miss Seo to a certain Sergeant Go stationed at the Sinim-dong Police Station--

You don't know anything about Seo Hyeon Soo.

She's not the person you know.

So... you ordered the killing?

If not, did Hyeon Soo see something she shouldn't have?

It was all because of you!

Because you went digging around looking into her murder, in order to at least save your life,

I got involved.

If only you hadn't reported her missing in order to find her

and got into the police to dig around,

for the rest of my life, I would have lived not knowing who she was.

So why are you taking all of the blame?

There's something else, isn't there?

I... will be released soon anyway.

You... haven't resolved anything.

It's really great.

I could never clean it up there since it's so high.

You should have told me sooner so I can get some arm exercise.

- Are you done cleaning down here? - Yes.

- I'll open it since it's hot. - Okay.

Oh, it's nice and cool!

Oh, right. Tomorrow, Seol Ok will he here alone.

I have to go meet Dong Ho.

Should I go with you? Kids go crazy for police officers.

I can show him the handcuffs and the police car. Should I just wear my uniform?

No, it's okay. You're busy.

Boys don't like playing with their moms.

They like doing physical things.

So... is that why he gets bored when he's with me?

He's at an age when he has an abundance of energy. What can he do with his mom?

You have something on your face. What is this? Here.

What is that?

She's single these days. It'll upset her.

Hey! How you're acting right now makes me more upset!

Just stay stuck next to each other.

See? She's upset.

We should be more careful.

Ah, seriously. That's not true!

Do whatever you were doing.

Sorry.

Me, too.

Seriously...

Sorry!

Me, too!

What now? I thought you went back to work at the police station.

When I come here, I get a clearer sense of things.

To be honest, I got a really difficult case.

Don't even think about it. I don't have much time until my exam.

I'm only going to study for now.

You're Sherlock Holmes. Don't you think you'll pass right away?

You're a fast runner, too, so the physical test won't be an issue, either.

I can't do push-ups or sit-ups.

I'm not good with the Criminal Procedure Code either.

Open the book and show me where you have trouble. I'll tell you.

Go catch the criminal instead.

So petty.

I hope you fail the exam.

What is it... What kind of case is it...?

I'm curious to death.

Ah, seriously. He's no help!

Detective!

What's the case about?

Detective Go is dead. He was murdered.

And the results of Seo Hyeon Soo's DNA came back as unreadable.

They even did a Mitochondrial DNA test, but already from five different labs it came back as unreadable.

The case... isn't over yet.

I sense something. Something smells fishy.

There's something bigger.

I don't know how big the case is, but if you commit a crime, you should be punished.

Chief Kim?

I hear you've been looking for me.

Who...?

I'm Hyeon Soo. Seo Hyeon Soo.

Oh, we should go visit the jail if we're to catch Detective Go's murderer.

Lady, not even the police can get access to the jail freely!

There's always a way.

A way... Aren't you going to take the police exam?

I'll take it next year again.

Why is it always next year? This time around, come work under me. I'll take good care of you.

Why should I come work under you?

Wait a minute. Even the police exam has an age limit.

I still have time!

- I think this is your last eligible year at your age! - No, it's not!

Ah, seriously.

It's hot today. Let's just go have some coffee.
