- Hi, welcome to Under A Rock with Tig Notaro,

I'm Tig Notaro.

I'm a comedian and I don't follow much pop culture,

or watch many TV shows, or movies,

so I have a really hard time recognizing famous people.

But on this show I interview famous people

to try and figure out who they are.

So please welcome this person.

(bright upbeat music)

- Hi.

I'm Tig.

- How are you?

- I'm good, how are you.

- Good, I'm great.

So happy to be here.

- Are you?

- Yeah.

- I'm thrilled to have you here.

- No clue though, none, right?

How does that feel?

- It's new.

- [Tig] It's new.

- Yeah, I usually get it with sound of my voice sometimes.

- Okay.

- Yeah, but maybe not.

- Are you a singer?

- No.

- Can you sing?

- No.

- Would you sing?

- I'll do anything you want me to, absolutely.

(Kaley sings a note)

It wasn't that you sounded bad, it just--

- [Kaley] Didn't feel right.

- Like someone asked me to sing.

- Yeah.

- What is it about your voice?

- Did that throw you off?

I guess some places most people say that to me.

- No, I'm not thrown off. I show up thrown off.

- Should I look at my note thing and give you a--

- I guess so.

- Should I? Okay.

- Seems like you're ready to.

- I know, I'm ready to.

- Sorry to bother you.

- No!

I have to get to a real talk show where the person

knows exactly who I am, so, this is--

- What do you mean "real talk show"?

- You know, one where someone knows.

Okay.

Here we go.

I want you to get to know me but I like a little structure,

so I'm going to list off eight simple rules for being me.

- Okay, I know the show 8 Simple Rules.

- You do?

- I mean, I've heard of it, I haven't seen it.

- [Kaley] Okay. - Are you from that show?

- Yes.

- Okay.

You must love animals of all shapes and sizes.

Have had a pretend dad that had rules about dating.

Must have organized a flash mob that went viral.

Love playing ping pong.

Enjoy baths.

You must have played young Ellen DeGeneres in a flashback

25 years ago.

And be a big fan of Taylor Swift and Britney Spears.

- I love Taylor Swift.

- [Kaley] She's great.

- What is her song where she's like--

- All of them.

- Yeah.

But like she likes somebody--

- All of them.

- And uh, she, it's . . .

It's so good.

- It's so good.

- Like she's not supposed to like them.

- Right.

- Are those all of her songs?

- I think pretty much, yeah.

- Alexa, tell me a Taylor Swift joke.

- [Alexa] Why do Marvel fans like Taylor Swift?

- Mmm.

- [Alexa] Because she loves to sing about her X-men.

- Okay, the last one is play the drums.

- You play the drums?

- I used to play the drums.

- I play the drums.

- You do?

- Yeah.

- Well lucky for you you have your own little drumset

next to you.

Yeah!

- I said I play the drums, I don't play a drum.

- The awkward, tiny drum.

- So this is gonna help me figure out who you are.

- Not at all, I don't know if this will have any connection.

- So you played young Ellen DeGeneres about 25 years ago.

- Yeah.

- Okay.

I'm acting like that would help me.

- Doesn't help at all?

- I'm trying to like, tie in, oh I'm gay, Ellen's gay.

- Are you really going to a talk show after this?

- No I just thought I'd say that.

- You try to make me feel bad about myself.

I must have not seen that.

- You're so cute, I can't take it.

My guest today is an actress most known for her starring

role as Penny on The Big Bang Theory.

Congrats again.

- In her breakout role she starred as Bridget Hennessey,

the teenage daughter in the hugely popular 8 Simple Rules

for Dating My Teenage Daughter.

She has won a Critic's Choice award, a Teen Choice award

for breakout TV star, two People's Choice awards

and a Satellite award for best actress.

My God.

I'm sick of all this.

She also has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.

When did that happen?

- I do.

About five or six years ago.

- I wish I had been invited to that.

Her new animated series, Harley Quinn, which she voices

and EPs premiers on November 29th on HBO Max.
