NARRATOR:This new generation never goes outside.

This new generation is lazy.

This new generation needs to wake up.

[ROCK MUSIC PLAYING]

CAITLIN:What is it? Thirty hours of traveling?

A solid couple days of traveling.

CAROLINE: This has never really happened.

All of our schedules are so crazy,

and everyone's from a different country.

And the fact that we're all here together pushing each other is crazy.

CAITLIN:Competitive surfing is really important to me

because it puts me in these places.

Like, I get to come to mentalize and go surf with my friends,

and there's nothing better in my eyes than doing that

and being in a beautiful place in the world.

I'm just a surfer, so going on a surf trip

to perfect waves with all your friends

is the most happy you can be.

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

BOTH:A sailor went to sea, sea, sea

To see what he could see, see, see

But all that he could see, see, see

Was the bottom of the sea, sea, sea

A sailor went to sea, sea, sea To see what he could see, see, see

But all that he could see, see, see Was the bottom of the sea, sea, sea

ERIN:It's really great to be going on trips with these girls.

It's kinda weird that you can be friends with your biggest rival.

Having fun is everything.

I mean, having a crew to do it with, that's what makes you love it.

I always say, people are like, "Oh, who's your favorite surfers?"

"Steph and my dad. But right now,

it's pretty much everyone that I'm doing this movie with."

So good to see them outside of the competitive scene

and just having fun and just being girls, you know?

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

CAITLIN:Caroline's personality, energetic.

SIERRA:She's like the most precise surfer I've ever met.

Every time you look, you know

she's gonna hit the perfect spot on the wave.

WOMAN 1: As a competitor, she's intense

because she's just so experienced.

CAITLIN: She's just an absolute crazy,

consistent, never falls,

one of the best surfers in the world.

Our first guest this evening, an Olympic gold medalist,

a force of nature, and what...

WOMAN 2:Pretty good first barrel.

Worked hard to get him over for that second barr--

And I watched her, like, in two weeks progress.

MAN 1:Welcoming Caroline Marks.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

[ELECTRONIC MUSIC PLAYING]

[ROCK MUSIC PLAYING]

CAROLINE:Sierra sends it.

She will take off on a bomb at Teahupo'o,

but also grind little fun waves.

ERIN: Sierra is so good at all sports.

First time I saw Sierra was actually at a skate comp.

I remember her doing these 540s and, like, "Oh, I wanna do one."

CAITLIN: I think she doesn't have a limit

to where she thinks she can go,

so I think that's what makes her so good.

I definitely see her taking sport to another level.

MAN 2:Next up on the tee, we have Sierra Kerr.

She has been absolutely superb out there so far.

And that is a great ball from Sierra.

A little timely counsel there from her caddy.

Now, on with her second shot on the ninth.

And that is beautifully struck.

Oh, my. It's tracking.

It's looking very good.

MAN 3:Well, how about that, folks?

What a birdie for Sierra Kerr.

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

CAITLIN:I think having style is pretty important.

It is something that you're given a little bit,

but I also think it's something

that can be influenced by the things you experience.

MOLLY: Sky is, like, cool, calm, chilled.

SIERRA: She's so amazing at what she does,

skating, but she's also such a good surfer,

and people don't really see that.

Yeah. She did a pretty cool air the other day that looked so skate-y,

just the way she landed it,

and her feet were just in the perfect spot.

SIERRA:We like doing her makeup and more, like, girly stuff,

but out there, we kind of kick butt.

[AMBIENT MUSIC PLAYING]

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

CAROLINE:Molly Picklum.

She's ultra-competitive, very hardworking,

very sarcastic, very funny.

SKY:This is crazy, but I love it.

SIERRA:Very feisty and competitive in the water and on land.

CAITLIN:She has a mean carve and a mean throwtail.

[AMBIENT MUSIC PLAYING]

MAN 4:A surfer that's been fearless in the heaviest way, unstoppable.

Molly Picklum, your world champion!

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

MOLLY: Tahiti, the island vibe's different.

The locals are a lot more welcoming.

And just like all calm vibes, and then you get out there,

it's the most psychotic wave you could ever see.

CAITLIN: Like, keeps you in the white water,

but you can't get air.

And it's like the most terrifying thing.

MOLLY:It's the best moment once you take off,

but the moment just before is the most scariest

and biggest leap of faith I take every single time.

The beautiful things in life is on the other side of your comfort zone,

and this wave is like a metaphor for it.

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

MOLLY:Just that morning, it was so crisp. It was so clear.

You can just tell, well, this is the day.

And there's a known thing in Tahiti

when the clouds kind of go over the mountain,

that's when the offshore wind will come

and you'll see the conditions.

And it was just like, I was watching to do my heat,

but then I also kind of was like, "Well, bigger picture is unfolding."

The clouds started to move around the mountain.

"Boy, is it gonna do it?"

And sure enough, then, like, the wind starts blowing

and just, please stay like that.

And, sure enough, it was just like Mother Nature.

It was just like, "You know what girls?

Like, here we're gonna just make it a little nicer for you

so you can have your moment."

I mean, then the rest kind of unfolded.

It's kinda like press play from here and watch what unfolded.

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

[CROWD CHEERING]

I remember I was watching Molly get away,

but I was, like, screaming for her because I was, like, holy crap.

It's just cool because I'm friends with Molly,

and it's cool to see your friend get a good wave.

Competitive surfing isn't everything. It's not the whole world.

So we can just go into these heats,

like, "Oh, yeah. We wanna beat each other",

but it's not like we're gonna stop being friends after it.

CAITLIN:Erin Brooks' surfing is one of the best surfing ever.

She's really, really good.

Erin, like, her style in the wave,

she's kind of like a gymnast, like very acrobatic.

You can tell she's like spring-loaded all the time, really poppy

and just, yeah, really explosive.

Erin is just like a fierce competitor.

I don't really like answering that question,

but I'm very determined, and I don't like to lose.

[AMBIENT MUSIC PLAYING]

[CAR ENGINE REVVING]

[DRAMATIC MUSIC PLAYING]

[AMBIENT MUSIC PLAYING]

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

SIERRA: Caity's personality, she's a cruiser.

Everything you see, what she does on a surfboard

is literally her outside of the water.

CAROLINE:She loves to surf,

just trying all these different boards

and surfing all these different waves.

MOLLY:She has a really true deep connection with surfing,

and I think she trusts that and leans on that

and knows whatever unfolds in her life,

she always has that, and no one can touch that.

I think that she has one of the best styles

out of anyone I've ever seen.

I believe that surfing is a dance.

That's just, yeah. Because that's why I love it.

[INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PLAYING]

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

We wouldn't be here if I feel like if it wasn't for each other.

We need each other to push.

MOLLY:I feel like I started surfing watching Carissa and Steph

and seeing what they could do.

And then I wanna do something a bit better, a bit bigger.

I see Caity get a deep bow.

I want one bigger and deeper.

CAITLIN: It's good to surf around good people

because then you get better at surfing.

MOLLY:Most of the time when I go on surf trips,

it's normally pretty big,

and I get pushed nearly every surf trip.

I like going past my comfort zone even to, like, push other people

and then get pushed by them

because when I'm seeing Caity get good waves,

I wanna get good waves.

[AMBIENT MUSIC PLAYING]

[UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYING]

CAITLIN: Oh, my God.

WOMAN 3: Are you fucking kidding me, dude?

Whoo!

Thanks. To the Lord.

MAN 5:Let's suppose that you were able every night

to dream any dream you wanted to dream.

You would fulfill all your wishes.

And after several nights, you would say,

"Let's have a surprise.

Let's have a dream which isn't under control."

And finally, you would dream where you are now.

MOLLY:Wish I could grab that girl and tell her, like,

"It's all yours if you want it.

It's all up to you. If you want it, go and get it."

ERIN: I'd love to tell myself, good job.

And just keep going out there and having fun

because that's what it's all about.

CAITLIN:It's so wide open, like paths you can go down,

and I really don't have a specific end goal of it all.

I'm definitely gonna be surfing for the rest of my life.

Like, old woman slab surfer who goes to LA to get a new hip,

but then goes back to wherever I am on the Google Maps.

I hope a bunch of world titles.

Not gonna put a cap on how many I can get.

CAROLINE:While making this film, like, I won the world title,

then Caity won the world title, then Molly won the world title.

You wanna look back on your career and you wanna look at that

and be like, we really paved a new path to the next generation.

[SONG PLAYING]

Enjoy it all. Enjoy the people you're around.

Like, try your freaking hardest because why not?

YOLO, you know? Freaking do it.

We're stronger together, so it's just really powerful.

I love you guys.

MOLLY: What are you doing?

Filming a movie.

[ENDING THEME SONG]

I got foot cramps from all this model work.

SKY: That's the most fun I ever had.

Getting back-to-back sections.

Getting dropped off by Sierra.

And mentalize with the sunset.

Can you ask me something cool?

Oh, my God. The back one.

This is good.
