[woman] I'm not supposed to be widowed at 48.
They were walking their dog.
It was a routine walk.
Typically in marriages,
people portray their relationship
to be one way.
[muffled gunshots]
It seemed like an attempted robbery.
She's an award-winning actress is what she is.
It was shocking.
[dramatic theme music]
[woman crying]
[Tiffany] They were walking their dog.
It was a routine walk,
and Jamie Faith was violently killed.
[narrator] It's a regular autumn morning
for 49-year-old Jamie Faith
until the husband and father is gunned down
in broad daylight outside his Dallas home.
[muffled gunshots]
[narrator] His wife, Jennifer, is hysterical.
[Jennifer screaming]
[screaming continues]
You can hear on neighbours' surveillance cameras
and doorbell cameras, úJennifer screaming in terror.
[Eric] And a gunman approachedúfrom the driveway and yelled.
And at this time, he firedú multiple shots into Jamie.
Jamie fell to the ground,
and he began attackingú Jennifer with his fist.
[Jennifer] I was running up this driveway,
and he tackled meú and started beating on me,
and taped my hands together.
Jamie was left dead in the street
with three shots to the head,
three shots to the chest area,
the torso, and then one shot in the groin.
Jennifer was unhurt, physically no injuries on her.
Jennifer Faith had told police that she believed this all
happened because this man was trying
to steal her wedding rings.
We just thought this was a random act of violence
in Oak Cliff, Dallas.
And sadly, this is just one
of many high-profileú violent crimes in Dallas,
a city with more thanú200 homicides this year alone.
[narrator] Police soon suspect that this could be
more than a robbery gone wrong.
[officer] Typically, úthat's not how robberies occur.
Typically, they just want your property.
No one goes to that extreme.
The groin shot was a clear indicator
that something was personal between the shooter
and the victim.
He's your picture-perfect family man,
is what you would see in a book, you know?
So we wanted to try to figure out,
was there somebody that Jamie was into it with?
Had he gotten in any kind of confrontations lately?
And the only thing that she could bring up
that was a possibility to her was that he just laid off
several employees due to issues with the economy.
Jamie Faith was a 49-year-old man
who was an IT executiveú with American Airlines.
He had moved to Dallas a few years before that
as a result of a promotion.
He was originally from Wisconsin.
He was a big Green Bay Packers fan.
And I think, you know, one example of his loyalty
is the fact that he remained a Green Bay Packers fan
no matter where he lived.
My name is Jason Snyder,
and Jamie Faith was my best friend.
He had a great sense of humour.
He was very intelligent,
calm, patient, just an all-around great guy.
Somebody would have a hard time
finding something bad to say about him.
He was just a great guy.
And genuine. Like, he honestly,
truly cared about people and, you know, like,
his friendship was never conditional.
[narrator] Jamie is a confirmed bachelor
until he meets Jennifer,
a single mother and speech therapist
in Arizona, in 2005.
[Jason] They were set up.
It was a blind date.
One of the guys that Jamie works with,
he and his wife set them up.
I never saw them argue.
I never saw them have a disagreement.
I felt like they got along really well.
I felt like their level of intelligence
and their sense of humours were pretty much aligned.
I mean, Jamie used to open the door
for her all the time to get in the car.
He'd give her a kiss before she got in.
Like, I don't see any of my friends do that.
Jamie and Jennifer were kind of like the model couple
and had the relationship that they had.
You know, Jamie met Jennifer after she had already had Amber,
but they hit it off so well and deeply fell in love
that after they got married, Jamie adopted her daughter
and basically raised Amber as his daughter.
He paid for her college
and he wanted to make sure she had
the best start in life as possible.
[narrator] The Faiths move from Arizona to Dallas
and quickly become a fixture in the community.
[Tiffany] Oak Cliff is really an up-and-coming neighbourhood.
There are a variety of people that live there,
and a lot of people want to live there.
It's highly desired.
It's a great place to shop.
It's a great place to hang out with your friends,
go to the bars.
It's also a great place to live.
A lot of families live there as well.
[Joni] And they were very generous to their neighbours.
They had a pool at their house, and they would oftentimes
give the neighbours the key to the gate to get in,
and just say, "Hey, come in, you can swim."
And they were just very well liked in the community,
not just as individuals, but as a couple.
[narrator] Nothing in Jamie Faith's life
points to anyone wanting to harm him,
but police start to doubt this is a simple robbery.
This is an intended target.
It's done with extreme precision.
By essentially leaving Jennifer alone,
he's left a witness.
[narrator] Police trawl local CCTV
and spot a black truck driving away at speed
after the shooting.
[Eric] The vehicle was a dark, older model
Nissan Titan pickup truck.
And there was a white T decal on the rear windshield.
[Tiffany] It had a T sticker on it,
but it was pretty grainy.
And having a T sticker in Texas, especially in North Texas,
it's not anything shocking.
I mean, we have the Texas Rangers.
[Eric] And we were able to collect enough video
that we tracked the vehicle moving from the crime scene
all the way through residential neighbourhoods
until he made it onto the freeway.
At that point in time, the trail ran cold.
We didn't have a good licence plate on the vehicle,
or nobody that could identify the shooter.
[narrator] Jennifer appeals toú the public for information.
In a news interview with WFAA Channel 8,
she appears visibly emotional
as she pleads for helpúfinding her husband's killer,
a plea that keeps Jamie'sú death in the spotlight.
[Jennifer] I'm sure they're overextended
and spread very thin,
but it doesn't help me in terms of finding the answers
that I really need.
I sent her a message.
It's really a message that I would send to
any family member that lost a loved one.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
And, you know, I asked her if there's anything
that she wanted to share about her husband.
And I was surprised because a lot of times
you don't get a response as a reporter.
But this time I did.
And I really felt for her.
You know, she was a grieving widow.
She has a daughter and they raised a daughter together.
And you felt really sorry for her because, you know,
she told me that she was struggling
and that she's devastated.
[Jennifer] I just hope that at some point,
maybe this person can recognize
the gravity of what they've done
and feel some sort of guilt enough to come forward,
'cause I'm not supposed to be widowed at 48.
[Tiffany] I told her that we would try to get the word out
so that they could find out who did this to her husband.
I also asked her, you know, if she wanted to say anything
about Jamie to let the public know,
to let the viewers know who he was.
She told me that he was her best friend.
He was the best husband and father.
And I replied to her that I wish I could
give her a hug right now.
I just, I felt so sad for her.
I felt like she just needed
someone to be human with her for a second.
[Jennifer] My partner, my best friend.
We just really need some answers.
If anybody knows anything, please contact the detective.
[Eric] People were wanting to help.
They really sympathized with Jamie as a victim.
They sympathized with Jennifer.
And the public really wanted to get involved
and help us get the case closed.
So they were calling in any vehicle that they saw
if it had a bumper sticker on it or a decal.
So they were calling in vehicles that didn't physically
match the description of the vehicle,
but they were just trying to be helpful.
And it sent us on a lot of rabbit trails.
[narrators] With little evidence,
detectives take the standard step of scrutinizing
those closest to the victim, including Jennifer.
Typically in marriages,
people portray their relationship
to be one way,
and sometimes behind closed doors,
there's things going on
that they don't necessarily want to disclose.
[narrator] Police are struggling to find a motive
for the murder of husband and father, Jamie Faith,
gunned down outside his Dallas home.
He was a goofy, loving guy
who was a hard worker
and dedicated to his craftú as a technology director
at American Airlines.
He had a great head over his shoulders.
He had a good family life with a wife of 15 years,
a daughter that they raised together.
It just seemed like he was a good guy.
[narrator] The tight-knit Dallas neighbourhood
rally around Jennifer and her daughter
following Jamie's murder.
[Tiffany] A lot of support poured into the Faith family.
GoFundMes were created.
We had a statement from American Airlines, you know,
neighbours, people reaching out
and just donating money and resources to her.
That's what people do in Oak Cliff.
That's what people do in Dallas.
And so when we saw this GoFundMe created,
it seemed quite normal to us that people were donating
thousands of dollars to her.
She's got a plan for a funeral now.
Her daughter now has to live without a father.
They have to go through counselling.
[man] On behalf of the family,
I really appreciateú each of you being here.
Jennifer holds two funerals for Jamie,
one in Dallas and one in Phoenix,
where they used to live.
And these weren't just any funerals.
These were very elaborate.
[Joni] She put together this book,
and it talks about how much she loves him.
And it's pretty thick,
and it talks about everyú memory they've ever shared
and how she... "I love you when you wake up.
I love you when you go to bed."
[narrator] Police ask Jennifer to hand over her phone
as a routine part of the investigation.
[Brandi] A lot of any of the text and stuff
had been completely deleted off her phone.
But they were able to find some texts
in which she's tellingú a friend back in Arizona,
a few months before, ú months before the murder,
that she was having an emotional affair
with a man named Darrin.
This is important to the detectives because
she had claimed they didn't have any marital problems
going on.
[narrator] Detectives uncover a name
in Jennifer's contacts,
Darrin Lopez,
along with an address over 600 miles away in Tennessee.
He was a very elite soldier.
He was in the Green Beret.
He had some unbelievable tours of duty.
He would not only take care as a medic
of soldiers in his own platoon,
he actually took care of some Iraqi people
who were injured as well.
He really gained a reputation.
He got a couple of Bronze Stars.
So he was not only somebody that we think of as a hero
when we think about the military, he was a hero.
[Tiffany] He went to Iraq. He served in the military.
And he was severely injured there.
He had a traumatic brain injury.
And he had PTSD as well.
[Eric] He lived right outside Nashville, Tennessee,
in a small rural community named Cumberland Furnace.
[Brandi] He has three daughters.
And then he also had taken care of two daughters
from his ex-wife's prior relationship.
[Eric] He was a girl dad raising three teenage girls.
He had gone through a period of depression
after he separated from his wife.
And he was kind of confined to his house.
[narrator] Phone records betweenDarrin Lopez and Jennifer Faith
show an intense, even obsessive bond.
There was an overwhelming amount of communication
between Jennifer and Darrin through text and phone call.
There's nothing that they could have possibly talked about
that would require that much communication.
It's up to 500 messages a day.
[Brandi] They spent more time on the phone with each other
than 14-year-olds do.
I mean, it was an insane level of communication.
[Eric] We couldn't see content, just...
we could just see, basically, the transactional information
of whether it was a text or a phone call,
and which direction the contact was being made from.
Most of the communication was coming from Jennifer
towards Darrin.
He responded back, but it was heavier on her end.
[narrator] But there is a conspicuous silence,
a sudden gap in texts and calls.
In the 24 hours leading up to Jamie's murder,
there is zero communication between Jennifer and Darrin.
That is odd.
The void in the phone records was enough time
for someone to travel from where he lived at to Dallas
and back to his home after committing a murder.
Communication is off untilú he gets back to Nashville,
and then the communicationú ramps right back up again.
[Andrew] He was in a bit of financial difficulty.
If I'm not mistaken,
we learned thatú his property in Tennessee
was in the process of being foreclosed on.
Once police zero in on Darrin Lopez,
they send a drone over his house in Tennessee.
And what do they spot in the yard?
That black Nissan Titan
with the T decal right there in the back window.
Lo and behold, Darrin has this black Nissan pickup truck.
[Eric] At that moment, it clicked very clearly
that that T was a Tennessee volunteer sticker.
[Andrew] That was quite a revelation.
We know this is the suspect vehicle in this murder.
Darrin Lopez has an association to Jennifer Faith.
[narrator] Police uncover a crucial connection
between Darrin Lopez and Jennifer Faith.
Darrin Lopez was a long-lost
high school sweetheart of Jennifer.
After they graduated, Darrin joined the Army.
She went on, met her daughter's father,
got married, had her daughter,
and they just lost track with each other.
[narrator] Police pull Darrin Lopez's
financial records.
We found a transaction on the day before the murder
that Darrin was in West Memphis, Arkansas,
purchasing gas, Red Bull, and a DVD at a gas station.
This gas station was on the route
that an individual would need to travel
to get from Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee to Dallas, Texas.
[narrator] Darrin Lopez's phone may have gone dark,
but investigators trace his drive to Dallas
through his iPad, which pings off cell towers.
He arrives around 2:15 in the morning.
In fact, surveillance cameras
show him kind of stalking the house once he got there.
And then he just proceeded to lay in wait
till 7:30 in the morning
when Jennifer and Jamie leave the house to walk the dog.
[narrator] The outfit Darrin Lopez wears
in the gas station videomatches that of a shadowy figure
in the neighbour's yard after 2 AM,
caught on the Faiths' Ring camera
just hours before Jamie is killed.
On day two of the investigation,
Jennifer is telling us that the house is empty,
that the neighbours that lived there had been evicted,
and from time to time,
the husband gets drunk and will wander through
the neighbourhood and through the backyard of the house,
but it didn't stick out to her as being suspicious.
[narrator] On January 11th, 2021,
police and federal agents arrest Darrin Lopez.
When they do, his truck is there,
but the distinctive T sticker is gone.
We saw that the glue from the decal
still left residue in the shape of a T
on the back of the truck.
And you could see razor blade marks
where someone was trying to remove it.
[Andrew] There's a black backpack
in the floorboard of the passenger seat.
There's two credit cards in that backpack
that are in Jennifer Faith's name.
And in addition to that,
the blue face mask that Darrin was wearing
on the day that Mr. Faith was killed was recovered.
[Kristin] After arresting Darrin,
they go through his house.
There was a large screen TV box
on the front porch of the residence.
Officers looked at the mailing label on that box,
and they saw that it was sent from Jennifer Faith,
and it had her home address on Waverly Drive.
Inside the residence,
they located some mail from Jennifer,
and it appeared to be love letters
that were written back and forth between her and Darrin.
And they find a gun that matches the gun
that would have been used to kill Jamie Faith.
And on that gun, as they do their investigative work,
they find DNA matching Jamie.
They knew that when Jamie was shot at such close range
that there would have been blood splatter.
[narrator] The evidence ispiling up against Darrin Lopez.
He has been exchanging sexualized messages
with Jennifer Faith,
and drives for over nine hours to near where she lives.
And then she makes a move that causes detectives
to question her.
Very shortly after his death,
she had contacted the life insurance company
inquiring about collecting the $750,000
in life insurance that Jamie had.
Jamie's life insurance company was wanting to cash in
on the life insurance policy.
But at this point in the investigation,
we couldn't give them the green light to do that,
because we couldn't clear Jennifer.
This now has all of the markings of a targeted situation.
So now it's like, why?
[reporter] Investigators now say that masked man
was Darrin Lopez from Tennessee.
[Tiffany] Police knew that this was a really big case.
And so the next big thing wasúthat they had made an arrest,
and this person was all the way in Tennessee.
It was a small town called Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee,
and it was just so random.
Why would this individual from Tennessee
come all the way to Dallas to murder Jamie Faith?
[narrator] Darrin Lopez is brought into custody
charged with murder.
He refuses to speak.
As soon as officers got him in custody,
they grabbed his phone,
so he wasn't able toú communicate with anybody.
Jennifer came to the police station
not knowing that Darrin is in custody.
We wanted to give her the chance to say,
"Hey, there was something going on in our marriage.
I had an emotional affair."
And we wanted to give her an out with saying, "Hey, I cheated,
but I had nothing to do with the murder,"
if that was the case.
And she came in, and it was the same story.
Deny, deny, deny.
[Eric] She's pushing back very heavily and aggressively,
saying, "You got the wrong person."
It was just kind of everything opposite of what
you would expect a grieving widow to do when she's told,
"Hey, we made an arrest."
[narrator] Jennifer's extraordinary interview
with police sees her acknowledge
that she had reconnected with her prom date after 30 years,
but she firmly denies the relationship was romantic.
Police piece together the extent of their relationship,
which rekindled six months before Jamie Faith's murder.
He had made a kind ofú a New Year's resolution
that he was going to contact people
that he had lost contact with,
that he cared about.
In March of 2020, he tracked down Jennifer.
He had been curious about her.
He had thought about her for many years.
He reaches out initially to kind of say,
"Hey, I've been looking for you.
Are you, you know, the Jennifer who I went to high school with
and went to prom with?"
She emails him back and says, "Well, I don't know.
You know, who are you? Are you... am I sure?
How do I know that you're the, you know, the Darrin Lopez
that I used to know?"
And he says, "Well, what if I call you Angel,"
which was his nickname for her.
It really very, very quickly escalated from,
"How are you? How have you been?
What have you been doing over the past 30 years?"
Catching each other up on that, to,
"I love you. úl still have feelings for you.
Let's make a five-year plan to be together."
I mean, it went from zeroú to 100 very, very quickly.
They're communicating withúeach other in a sexual nature,
discussing what theyú want to do to each other
and how everything is going toú be all unicorns and rainbows
once they get together.
[narrator] In the wake of Jamie's murder,
detectives uncover phone messages
that shows Jennifer steers the relationship with Darrin.
In the text messages, she directed him to do,
like, a factory reset of his phone.
We also found text messages where she directed him to
remove the decal from his truck.
[narrator]"So I woke up in a little bit of a panic,"
Jennifer says.
"Something is eating away at me,
telling me you need to take the sticker
out of the back window of the truck."
She was directing him, each step of the way,
on what to do if he was confronted by police,
what to say, ú how to get rid of evidence,
and kind of keeping him up to speed
on what we were doing in the investigation.
[narrator] It's enough for prosecutors
to charge Jennifer with involvement
in February 2021.
She is denied bail.
[reporter] And if convictednshe may face the death penalty.
[Jennifer] I'm not supposed to be widowed at 48.
[reporter] Police arrested Jennifer, too.
Nearly five months later,
she faces a federal charge for obstruction of justice.
We're pretty excited about finding a reason
to actually lock her up.
[Tiffany] Oh, my goodness,
I can't believe I spoke with her.
And then she went on camera with us,
and she is an award-winning actress, is what she is.
I think all of us said that.
I mean, it was shocking.
[narrator] Jennifer denies any involvement
in the death of her husband, Jamie Faith.
Jennifer was devastated byú the murder of her husband.
She has cooperated with the police
the past three months.
[narrator] But a deep look into Jennifer's digital footprint
shocks even the investigators.
The forensic examination of her computer
and her cell phone pulled the curtains back
and gave us a lot of insight to who Jennifer really is.
[narrator] Jennifer Faith
is charged with obstruction of justice
in connection with the murder of her husband, Jamie Faith.
But police are still digging into the true extent
of her involvement.
Jennifer goes from talkingú about some dissatisfaction,
that her relationship with Jamieú isn't all that it appeared,
to describing her husband as somebody
who is essentially an abusive, sadistic monster.
And she begins doing this more and more over the seven months.
And it really, really sends Darrin into a frenzy,
a rage, anxiety, a sense of helplessness,
as he begins trying to help her extract herself.
The strategy that was used in the emails,
Jamie Faith was an account Jennifer created
to pretend to be Jamie.
And he's talking about all these horrible things
that he's doing to Jennifer,
which caused animosity between Darrin and Jamie.
[narrator] Darrin is tricked into thinking
he's in contact with three people,
Jennifer, her husband Jamie,
and family friend Robert Schmitt.
Through countless emails,
he comes to believe Jennifer istrapped in an abusive marriage,
a situation he thinks isconfirmed by both her and Jamie.
There was photographs that Jennifer would share
with Darrin of her injuries from these incidents.
They were stock photos from Shutterfly,
And they looked as if they were, like, toddler teeth.
The teeth were like very small.
And then, you know, it was one of those things,
if you looked at it,
you could tell this is not an adult in this photo.
There were also photos that Jennifer shared with Darrin
that she said were bruises that she obtained
from some of the abuse.
And she had a folder on her computer
which showed that those injuries were photos
that were taken several years prior
that she stored because she was in a car accident.
And she was sharing those photos with, like,
the insurance company.
And so at that point, we were able to kind of tell,
"Okay, she's playing a game here."
She describes a gang rape of,
you know, nine men, including Jamie Faith.
I mean, they were beyond the pale of not just abuse,
but it was absolutely torturous.
It was sadistic.
About a week before Jamie's murder,
Jennifer tells Darrin that she's afraid.
And she's getting increasingly afraid.
[Brandi] Their 15-year anniversary of when they met
was coming up in October.
And fake Jamie, through the email accounts,
had made allusions to Darrin about
what was gonna happen to his wife on that day
and possibly that she would just be eliminated forever.
[Joni] Darrin is somebody who takes action,
who is somebody who's kind of a hero.
This would be very, very difficult for him
to sit by without doing anything.
The first time that theyú saw each other would be
the day of the murder.
That's the first time that they would have had
any interaction in person or, you know,
seen each other in person.
[narrator] In September 2021,
Jennifer is charged with murder for hire.
She faces a potential death sentence.
[Jennifer] I just hope that, at some point,
maybe this person can recognize
the gravity of what they've done,
and feel some sort of guiltú enough to come forward.
[news anchor] A distraught widow
spoke with us months after her husband died,
begging his killer to come forward.
But now investigators claim it was all an act.
And for the first time, we're hearing why detectives
think Jennifer Faith was pulling the strings all along.
Alex Rozier has covered this case from the start
and joins us live in Dallas.
This is quite a turn, Alex.
Yeah, Chris, especially shocking considering
Jennifer Faith stood right here and she cried to me.
She told me she had no idea who killed her husband.
Now, police say that she orchestrated the whole thing,
and that's why she's charged with murder for hire.
[narrator] Prosecutors inform Darrin Lopez
that he has been manipulated by Jennifer.
He decides to talk.
He described himself as doing, as like he was on a hero mission
to save someone that was in distress,
that was being abused and being harmed.
[narrator] Jennifer's manipulations ran even deeper.
[Eric] He shared pictures of the roadside bomb
that actually caused his injuries.
And Jennifer said in her career, she was a speech pathologist,
that she actually had training in dealing with people
with traumatic brain injury.
So she was pretty specific and pretty directed in her way
of how she dealt with Darrin.
Like, she's coming from a point of someone
being trained in methods of how to deal with people
with traumatic brain injury,
but she used it to her advantage.
[Joni] She begins offering to help him,
not just through communication,
but actually almost to help him professionally.
So, she gets him to send her all of his medical records.
And this is a speech pathologist.
I mean, this is somebody in the medical field.
She knows exactly how vulnerable Darrin is.
And I think it is particularly
really diabolical.
They are planning to use this over $600,000 life insurance.
Jamie also had over $400,000 in his 401(k)
that she's going to be entitled to.
They're gonna move in together.
The $60,000 that had been given to her
to help with funeral expenses and living expenses
to essentially fund Darrin's lifestyle,
as well as her own, payoff credit cards.
[Jason] Nothing surprises me now.
Like, nothing, nothing at all surprises me.
[Joni] It became clear
that there were some parts of Jennifer that she had hidden
from just about everybody who knew her.
Jennifer Faith finally saw the writing on the wall
and realized that the evidence was overwhelmingly against her,
especially when she found out
that Darrin Lopez was cooperating
with law enforcement.
[narrator] In February 2022,
Jennifer Faith takes a deal
and pleads guilty to murder for hire.
She is sentenced to life in prison.
She never apologized. She never expressed remorse.
She never really admitted that she did it,
even though she pleaded guilty.
You're disgusting and you're pure evil.
One half of this murder for hire plot
is already serving life in prison.
Now the accused shooter is on trial
and could face the same fate.
[narrator] Darrin Lopez goesú on trial in July 2023...
Lopez acknowledges he shot Jamie Faith.
This man, Jamie Faith, is who you killed, correct?
[Darrin] Yes, ma'am.
I took an innocent life.
[narrator]...but he claims his actions were justified,
that he acted in defence of a third person
because he believed Jamie was abusing Jennifer.
The prosecution argues thatDarrin Lopez and Jennifer Faith
were acting out a fantasy,
and had an obsessive relationship.
What was probably one of the most uncomfortable
situations I've been in.
I was in court on the dayú Detective Barnes testified
as he was readingú the explicit text exchange.
And, you know, I'm in my mid-50s,
and I was blushing.
And they're buying each other BDSM...
things off the internet.
And they're... or they are shipping stuff to each other.
They're continuing this fantasy even after,
supposedly, Jamie Faith was killed.
[Tiffany] A lot of times, you don't hear
from the defendant in a trial,
but in this case, we did.
I was pretty surprised, actually,
to hear everything that he had to say.
And he talked about their history,
and he talked about how Jennifer manipulated him.
You know, you felt for him at some points.
But at the same time, you know, I keep going back to this,
that he could have done something else.
He didn't have to kill Jamie.
If he truly thought that this man was abusing his wife,
there are other options to take besides violence,
besides murder.
I had promised myself,
if I was ever in a position
to help somebody that I cared for and loved,
I would do it.
If I didn't act, Jennifer was gonna die that day.
I was duped in there, part of it,
but I'm not gonna say I'm just a total victim.
No, man, that would be disrespectful to Mr. Faith.
Jennifer turned me into the monster.
I was devastated.
I took an innocent life.
I took Amber's dad from her.
A man who was like me.
My two oldest daughters are my stepdaughters,
but they're my daughters.
I would never ever hurt Amber that way.
Take her dad from that.
That's what
gets me
how Jennifer could do that
to her daughter.
There was 650 miles betweenú where the murder took place
and where Darrin first got in his vehicle.
In approximately 10 hours, there was plenty of time
for him to call the police, have second thoughts,
ask Rob to meet with other family members,
but he never did that.
His reaction was to immediately kill him.
[Tiffany] Jennifer manipulated everybody around her.
I mean, it starts with her husband.
He had no idea that for seven months
she was talking to this man.
Darrin, the man she was talking to,
also manipulated.
Then it came to the police, ú they were manipulated too.
Neighbours, as well, who were giving all these things to her.
Even the press, we were manipulated as well.
And so, she was just
really, really good at scheming.
[judge] "We, the jury,
unanimously find the defendant,
Darrin Lopez,
guilty of murder, as charged in the indictment."
Darrin Lopez showed little emotion
when he heard his sentence.
62 years.
That decision from the jury came down after around
five hours of deliberation.
[judge] "Unanimously assessúthe punishment of the defendant
for a period of 62 years."
No sentence would do justice for Jamie.
Both of them murdered this man,
not one more than the other,
but both murdered this man
and both should be held accountable.
There was nothing to indicate why she would have,
you know, gone through these lengths to have...
you know, if you're not happy, get a divorce and leave.
She's not gonna get over a million dollars
if she gets a divorce.
She's not going to get the perverse satisfaction
she apparently gets from manipulating another man
into protecting her or rescuing her.
What she was looking for here,
a divorce would not give her anything that she wanted.
[narrator] Jennifer Faith and Darrin Lopez
are now serving life sentences
for the murder of Jamie Faith,
a killing carried out the very first time
they saw each other in person in almost 30 years.
He had no clue, no clue what was going on,
no clue what was about to happen to him.
And he was walked right into it by his wife.
It just kind of shocks your conscience
knowing that you can lay in bed with somebody
and then wake up the next morning,
take a few steps out your front door,
and they're leading you to your death.
