The Classic of Mountains and Seas - Legend of the Scarlet Shadow

Episode 20

Timing & Subtitles brought to you by the Dancing Fingers @ Viki

If I was the King of Qing Qiu,

then you would be the Queen of Qing Qiu.

You were the one who pushed her here step by step.

She has decided to, against you,

compete for the winner.

If you wanted to kill me, you would have done so last night.

Why bother to bring me here?

I like your attitude.

It's just a shame.

You are the Mysterious Lady of the Vermilion Bird.

General.

They've already been facing each other for two days.

Other than the sounds of horses from the west,

There has been no movements on the front lines.

But their army keep pressing into the border, pulling out their swords and stretching their crossbow.

Reporting to Lord Jin, a message has arrived!

-Sir Jin.-Speak!

Qing Qiu has imposed a curfew,

there is a rumour that the ministers of Qing Qiu has assembled outside the city.

They are getting ready the army. It is the King of Qing Qiu

who is planning to use the frontlines to get rid of the enemy.

Rumours?

The Chief Minister didn't come to court this morning either.

According to the King, their actions are suspicious.

But after investigating,

I discovered that this person is with a prostitute all day.

Since the curfew, the prostitute didn't do anything else but accompany this customer of hers.

It doesn't seem like they are planning to take any action.

Then how did this news get spread?

Did you investigate?

This...

A huge war is impending, yet they are in disarray.

They are having problems inside and outside.

Qing Qiu is indeed in chaos.

With all the soldiers sent to the front lines, no one is left to in the city, and crime runs amok.

With the soldiers drawing close, normally,

the king of Qing Qiu should be thinking of ways

to unite all possible power.

And not cause such unnecessary unrest.

That rumor,

definitely didn't spread out from Qing Qiu.

The one who spread this rumor must want Qing Qiu to become even more chaotic.

If we take this chance to attack,

Qing Qiu will definitely have no way to retaliate.

But if we do that, there will definitely be casualties.

What I want now, is to be able to win without a fight.

Continue to investigate.

What I want to know, is Baili Han's ulterior motive.

I'm thinking even more so

that his goal isn't me.

Yes.

Who are you?

Cut the nonsense. Hurry and run!

Let's go!

In front! Hurry!

-Stop there!-Stop there!

You want to go? I'm afraid it won't be that simple.

Hong Ling?

Hong Ling?

Greetings, General Baili.

Miss Hong Ling, what song are you singing now?

You haven't eaten pig before and seen it escape.

Is it very strange that a prostitute knows martial arts?

But Miss, isn't this not right?

This breaks the rules of our equal exchange!

Aren't these Bright Sky Pearls?

The Mysterious Lady of the Vermilion Bird is quite expensive.

You took my money and tried to save her?

Miss Hong Ling, what plan is this?

But you must know.

A person can't be too greedy.

No one dares to play tricks in front of me!

W-what are you looking at?

Yes!

I was the one who sold news of your movements to Baili Han.

Who told him to give such a good price?

She not only gave up your news!

Pretending to be sick and drawing you here,

was to draw you away from those who protect you.

To make you alone and make it easy for us to make a move.

You ran away from me,

yet she suggested that I hold her hostage

She wanted to attract you out to force you to surrender.

Why did you do this to me?

We are friends!

Friends? How much money are friends worth?

To me, you are only a guest in my life.

They only stay for a few days and leave, not dependable at all!

But Bright Sky Pearls aren't the same!

With those, I can leave Forget Worries Pavilion.

I can live comfortably all my life!

Money is what's most important.

I've always trusted you.

I can only say that you are silly for trusting me.

You dared to betray me?

I treated you as a friend!

Get lost!

You can't come over, right? Just stay right there.

I won't accompany you. Hong Ling, let's go.

You want to stop me with such a small fire? You're too naive.

It looks like I'll have to break your leg

to make things safe.

Puppet technique?

A prostitute knows the puppet technique?

I really underestimated you!

Baili Han! You're very cruel!

You can kill your own people?

Hurry and go!

If you don't want to break into a thousand pieces, you'd better stop right there.

Listen up.

Do you dare to trust me one more time?

I dare to.

Okay. Whether or not we can succeed, it all depends on this.

-Come!-General.

Contact the rest of the troops. Come and assemble at my tent!

Yes!

Here, here, and here.

Recently, there have only been small skirmishes.

There have been no real major battles.

Father.

This situation, in relation to the recruitment of soldiers from the entire city and the city's ministers

it's entirely different.

I heard that Qing Qiu City has been thrown into chaos.

Yes.

I think there is an external party who purposely spread those rumours.

The goal is to weaken Qing Qiu from inside and out.

If we make short term plans, based on our current power,

we can definitely destroy the Qing Qiu soldiers.

Based on your previous analysis,

if Baili Han only intended to hold you here,

then whether or not the battle with Qing Qiu is won or not

is not important to him at all.

Father, I feel like within Baili Han's plan,

his goal isn't only to hold me back.

Then what else is there?

The more I think about it, the more I feel that this matter is strange.

Baili Han must have another ulterior motive towards Qing Qiu.

His goal must have to do with summoning the Azure Dragon.

I'm a bit worried about the Mysterious Lady of the Vermilion Bird.

I'm afraid she'll be in danger.

You are a star mansion of the Vermilion Bird.

Do you feel something?

This...

Well I don't have one.

But nothing can happen to her.

Father, since everything is relatively peaceful now,

I'll go take a look and be back immediately.

Wait!

You're saying that you're leaving the front lines right now?

Father, Baili Han is full of plans.

We must face the enemy quickly. Regarding this matter,

nothing can go wrong with summoning the Vermilion Bird!

But aren't there other star mansions there to protect her?

-But, over there-!-You definitely cannot leave.

Father.

If you go,

you'll fall for the enemy's plan!

Father! Summoning the Vermilion Bird is a long term plan!

To our Shangguan family, it is also extremely important!

Jin'er.

Have you forgotten what the king said?

He wants the summoning of the Vermilion Bird and to win the war!

You are only deciding based on intuition.

Even if something really big happens,

if those star mansions and the Mysterious Lady can't deal with it,

and have to depend on you in everything,

then I can't avoid suspecting

if they really have the power to summon the divine beast

and take the responsibility to protect Jiu Li!

You must trust in their power.

Trust in the Mysterious Lady's power.

Summoning the divine beast isn't something easy.

A lot of troubles will come along the way.

Since they have this fate, they are destined to face these sort of troubles.

The issue at the moment is war!

You are a Young Lord of a family of Jiu Li.

Protecting Jiu Li well is the most important thing!

With the war going on, how can you leave this place for a girl?

She's not a regular girl!

You are quite strange today. Could it be

it is only because she is the Mysterious Lady?

I've told you many times before. Being from a noble family, when it comes to marriage,

you cannot make your own decisions!

You are quite daring. I sold you out,

and you still chose to jump off the cliff with me?

A smart person like you definitely won't die so easily.

Since you came to save me, you probably thought of an escape route.

Since you dare to jump, why shouldn't I?

I really couldn't tell.

Normally, you look so silly.

You are so cunning in your bones.

Why?

What do you mean, why?

I betrayed you, but you chose to believe me.

You must have had your reasons.

I only did it for money.

But you still came to save me!

Was that for money too?

I am after money, not lives.

That's right. Your stuff.

From now on, be more careful.

I'm leaving.

No, no! You can't leave!

-If I didn't guess wrong, you are the Chariot Mansion we were looking for!-So what if I am?

I spent so much effort just to find you!

Now that I've finally found you,

I can't lose you now, no matter what you say.

Go summon the Vermilion Bird with me?

Summon the Vermilion Bird? Why?

To protect the people!

Protect the people?

I'm not that great.

I haven't even fixed up my own life yet.

What does others have to do with me?

Besides, you're keeping someone like me by your side?

Are you not afraid I'll betray you again?

You won't! You are my friend.

You keep calling me a friend.

But you only want to drag me into the fire.

You work for people, and I work for money and benefits.

How much money can you give me?

I'm talking about a lot!

Do you have money?

Money...

I feel like you're not the way you say you are!

You aren't a person who only wants money and cares for nothing else.

Do you know me very well?

Little girl, I'm telling you.

A woman must have money to feel safe.

in front of money, love or friendship loses their meaning.

You still don't understand now.

I am a person with experience, so I'll warn you now.

I don't feel like it's like that.

I believe that in this world there is a friendship that can withstand anything.

I believe even more

that someone can give up their life for a friend.

This is the dependency among friends. I am also willing.

To protect my friends, I can make myself become stronger.

Yes yes yes. All you say is right.

Then prove it to me!

If I can see that it's true, I'll be willing to leave with you.

Timing & Subtitles brought to you by the Dancing Fingers @ Viki

Hong Ling.

If I can prove it to you that even when friends are very far apart from each other,

as long as they are true friends, they can find each other,

and if I can also prove that friends can depend on each other,

will you leave with me?

I really want to see

what kind of fate and dependency you have with your friends.

When I count to five, Chi Yu will appear.

Do you believe me?

Do you see me as a child?

Chi Yu is probably still looking up the river for you.

Then if he appears, will you leave with me?

Right right right.

If he really does appear,

I'll immediately leave with you.

You said it! Then you must keep your word.

I'm going to start counting.

One. Two. Three.

Su Mo!

Chi Yu!

Chi Yu.

Why are you here?

It's all the fault of that Baili Han! His thieve's heart won't die.

He keeps wanting to kill me.

But good luck is always by my side!

Because I have Hong Ling!

You didn't know! It's all because of Hong Ling.

Her embroidery formation was so great!

-It can be used as a weapon too!-Nosy.

Hong Ling, you wanted me to prove the dependency between friends.

I've proved it!

Right now, Big Sister Chariot Mansion can come with us, right?

Chariot Mansion?

That's right. I haven't had a chance to tell you yet.

She's the Chariot Mansion we're looking for.

I've followed up the whole way.

All tracks were covered.

How could Baili Han have followed you here?

It's that Baili Han!

He has so many underhanded tricks.

Since you suspect me, why not just clear things up?

It's Baili Han who refused to back down!

Do you still remember last time?

-He also sent that wolf--I was the one who sold news to Baili Han.

What nonsense are you saying?

What do you want to do?

Su Mo treated you as a friend.

Yet you brought Baili Han here to kill her?

How much money are friends worth?

Chi Yu, you've misunderstood.

She's the Chariot Mansion, our ally.

I don't have an ally like her.

Whoever gives me money is an ally.

Baili Han gave me money. Have you?

But Hong Ling saved me!

If she didn't come save me,

-I couldn't have escaped.-If you'd listened to me,

she wouldn't have had this chance.

People create their own chances!

I only wanted money, not her life.

Girl, we don't owe each other anything, right?

Don't leave!

I see the two of you make such a pair!

After talking so much, you're still not allowing me to leave.

But you obviously promised me just now!

As long as Chi Yu appears you will leave with us.

You look at this friend of yours. He has such enemity with me.

If I were to follow you,

I would be such a fool!

If she wants to go then let her go.

The Mansions of the Vermilion Bird don't have such an ally.

I don't care about being a Star Mansion.

Now I have a lot of money,

I can live a luxurious life.

I don't care about following you people and suffering.

Or, when you have money then come and find me.

Enough.

It's your fault. We could have convinced her,

but you chased her away.

I don't trust her.

I have nothing to say to you.

Let me tell you, from now on,

don't think about leaving me for half a step.

Follow the river and search. That stupid brat Su Mo, alive or dead, I want her!

Yes!

As well as that evil girl.

Send my order,

as long as you can bring me Hong Ling's head,

you will be heavily rewarded with gold!

Yes!

She wants money but we have no money.

If we promise her that after we awaken the Vermilion Bird, we'll give her money...

No matter how much you give it is useless.

You are biased towards her!

It is not bias. It is the truth.

Such a person only recognises money and mot people.

You are speaking nonsense. Baili Han has given money, but

she still betrayed Baili Han and rescued me.

Hong Ling is just good at talking

but until now, she has never hurt me.

Instead, she faced danger and saved me.

Even if she received money previously, the work has already been done.

Furthermore,

we need all seven Mansions when we awaken the Vermilion Bird.

If she is not here, our goal cannot be achieved.

I think her always pretending to be so fierce and greedy,

she must have her reasons. Inside, she is still kind.

You think everyone is kind.

You think everyone is a bad person.

Up to you.

Other things I can listen to you,

as long as you are happy it is fine.

But you cannot ever lose this jade piece again.

If I lose it, you can just pick it up again.

You only care about the jade.

You think if any random person picks it up it works?

It is because we are of one heart.

That is why the jade can feel the connection.

When it is with you,

only then I can find you.

Understand?

Ladies! Today there will be many guests,

all of you need to pay attention later

Rest assured, Madam.

Smile, smile! Understand?

Rest assured, we know.

Hong Ling!

Hong Ling is back!

Are you tired, come upstairs and rest.

Hong Ling,

this herbal soup has been brought for you.

Hurry and come out!

Hong Ling.

Mother, you are especially nice to me today.

What are you talking about?

When have I not treated you well?

Come, drink the soup.

Here, be careful it's hot.

Mother, why aren't you asking me where i went last night?

Last night, you must have been with Lord Chi Yu right?

Here, drink it while it is hot.

You- This- -Speak.

How much are they offering you to catch me?

What are you saying?

You think I'm stupid? There is poison in the soup. You think I can't tell?

Since you already know,

then I won't hide it from you.

Yes I put poison into this soup!

Who asked you to be worth 5 Bright Sky Pearls?

5?

One is worth half of this place!

Let me honestly tell you,

don't blame me for being ruthless.

Let me tell you, the people who offered the price,

he is extremely...

Anyway, you can't run.

This money, sooner or later others will want it.

Why don't you repay an old debt and let me earn it.

As long as you are obedient,

I will make sure you won't suffer.

Men!-We're here!

You want to catch me?

In your next life!

Where are you going?

Hong Ling!

Stand there!

Let's go find Hong Ling later.

You have a way to convince her?

I don't think so...

It's just that I have an idea.

I just don't know if that little brat will agree.

She told me before,

as long as we have money she will come with us.

Don't we have an extremely rich young master with us?

You aren't thinking of using that little brat's ideas?

Just borrow a little.

He won't be so petty.

Hong Ling?

I thought it through.

Between friends there is something called unconditional friendship.

I think you have run into trouble.

Of course not!

I have just thought about it by myself.

I want to follow you and awaken the Vermilion Bird Deity.

But you have to promise me,

after we awaken the Vermilion Bird, you have to give me mountains of gold and silver.

I think that is doable.

Then this is great! What are we waiting for, let's go!

We still need to wait for our friends. We'll leave together.

Why do we have to wait? Let's go look for them.

Come!

Why are you still standing there, let's go!

It's her! She's there!

Catch!

I'll protect Su Mo and run, you hold them back!

Do these people know when to give up?

It must be that Baili Han who sent them to catch me.

Yes, I think being with you is too dangerous.

Forget it, in future, just give a bit more money.

Okay okay, let's hurry up and go.

This old man.

He obviously is a liar, but he caused us to look like sly rats.

Hitting us everywhere. -This man has some abilities.

You think, how did those wooden spiders move?

What trick is that?

It is just some street tricks.

Street tricks?

It is these tricks

that has gotten us two Vermilion Bird Star Mansions in this mess.

Luckily no one else saw. If not it would be so embarassing.

I will definitely catch him and torture him.

Little Brat, thank you.

Here.

Pei Pei. Let's just follow him secretly.

I-

Don't be anxious.

I will leave first.

Come!

Go!

Pei Pei, leave!

Ah Su! Save me!

What are you doing?

Don't chop me!

Be more careful!

Come! -Oh my mother!

Hey, you big hero, don't you have any face?

You made us two girls wait here for so long.

Are you okay, Chi Yu?

Being surrounded by so many people, and having to escape,

it is definitely not easy.

But Miss Hong Ling,

your martial arts are indeed great.

But your ability to lie is better.

But in terms of running for your life, you are even way better.

Thank you for your praise.

Fine as long you are not hurt it's good.

Let's leave and look for Shi Pei Pei and Ah Su.

Have you seen a tall man with a sword on his back

with a little boy of 15 or 16?

I don't know, I haven't seen them.

Thank you. -You can try asking there.

Excuse me, have you seen a little boy of 15 or 16

following a tall man with a sword strapped to his back?

I don't know.

Excuse me, have you seen a child

of about 15 or 16?

No I never.

Have you seen a little child of 15 or 16?

I don't know.

Sister! Are you looking for a child?

Have you seen him?

He is that way.

I have caught you! You big liar!

You have finally let me catch you. -What's your problem!

Your back has recovered you don't have a hunch anymore.

I saw you walking fast as if you're flying.

You are not an old man!

Hang on!

Do you guys have any reasons?

I didn't do anything to you, why are you so bent on chasing me?

We also didn't do anything to you.

You still released your spiders to attack us.

It was you who tried to cause trouble for me first!

Hit him!

You-

Wood?

Are you a barber?

Barber your head! Looking at these,

this is his tool for doing his deeds.

I'll spit on you!

Just who are you?

Why must you go around lying to people about awakening the Vermilion Bird.

What has it got to do with you?

You-!

Swindler!

I haven't stolen or snatched,

those things are given to me by them.

I couldn't refuse!

I'm getting money based on my own abilities. What's wrong with them?

You seem to speak well, but all your logic is twisted.

Capture him! We can't let him continue to cheat people.

Enough!-Let me go!

What is your name? -Let me go!

Don't pretend. Hurry and say!

I'll say I'll say!

I'm called Xiao Bing! -Xiao Bing? What's your surname? Where are you from?

I don't know!-You don't know? I'll-

I really don't know!

If you still pretend I will twist your neck!

It' s broken!

Where did all your wooden animals come from?

Let me go!

What did you see on his neck?

The word 'extended net'!

Vermilion Bird Extended Net Mansion?

Those two stupid idiots.

This person is too cunning.

Let me show you my slingshot.

What is this!

What's happening?

This time, it would be hard for him to escape.

64 Hexagram Formation? -Let me down!

You stinky brat!

If you really have abilities, let's go with real swords or spears and fight with me!

Doing these rubbish. What kind of man are you?!

You're the sitnky brat!

You're covered with the 64 Hexagram formation right now.

You have to get out to have the right to fight with me.

But, if you really want to fight,

I won't be afraid of you!

It's not like I've never heard of the 64 Hexagram Formation!

How much inner power can a child like you have?

I'll drag on until you used up all your inner energy.

Then this rotten formation will just spontaneously disappear.

I didn't think that you, a liar,

are quite knowledgeable.

No wonder you tricked so many people.

You think I'm afraid of you?

What are you doing?

This...this...

What are you doing??

I'm telling you!

This is my personally created Rainbow 64 Hexagram Formation!

Do you really think that if you just sit there

and drag out time with me, I wouldn't be able to stop you?

My Seven Rainbow Pill can absorb a person's inner energy.

First is the inner body, and then afterwards, it's your physical strength!

Then, it's your life!

This is no joke!

I think that someone with such weak inner power

isn't it you're beginning to see stars now?

I haven't!

Isn't it your hands and feet are getting weak, your waist and back are getting painful, and your having leg cramps?

Isn't it you cannot see anything anymore and can't find where the north is?

Stop bothering me here!

It's just windy!

The sand is getting in my eyes!

He won't die, right?

Die? Of course not.

If he is willing to call me big brother,

I will naturally let him go.

My big brother? In your dreams!

You arrogant bastard!

Stop tormenting yourself already. It's quite painful.

You should hurry and call me big brother, and I'll let you go.

Here.

Stop fighting, hurry and admit you lost.

Okay okay, I can't beat you! What do you want?

What do I want?

If you can't beat me, then call me big brother.

Then go and summon the real Vermilion Bird with us.

Big brother? I won't let you go even if I become a ghost!

Extended Net Mansion! Extended Net Mansion!

Did he really die?

If he dies, and we can't summon the Vermilion Bird, Grandpa will beat me to death!

Wake up! Extended Net Mansion!

H-hurry and save him!

Extended Net Mansion!

How is he?

He really is dead.

You killlled him!

Y-you were part of it too!

I didn't do anything!

You also didn't stop me. It's under your indulgence that

my power became too strong, and then

I accidentally killed him!

You are an accomplice!

Then what do we do now?

I'm afraid of dead people!

I'm sorry, I didn't kill you on purpose!

I...I thought you are Zhang Mansion but doesn't want to come with us.

I wanted to keep you here!

But in the end, who knew that you would be so weak?

-In seconds you--Stop talking so much.

How about...let's bury him.

Bury him?

You're crying?

Sand just got in my eyes.

Why is your nose so red?

Why is your nose red if sand got in your eyes?

I've never wanted to kill someone before!

I haven't either.

This person tricked and lied to people.

In a way, we got rid of some trouble for the people.

He didn't do anything terrible.

He just lied his way into a little food money.

So...you mean he didn't deserve to die.

Then I still accidentally killed him!

He is also the Vermilion Bird Extended Net Mansion.

We personally killed the Extended Net Mansion.

He should have been our brother.

Stop talking, I feel terrible!

What do we do if Su Mo finds out?

We definitely can't tell her!

Or else, we'll be yelled at to no end!

What about Shangguan Jin?

Shangguan Jin?

He was the first person to treat me as a friend.

I originally intended to keep nothing from him.

Let's just leave!

Leave? Wander the world?

Yes. Since they don't know where we are right now anyway.

Okay, let's do it!

Let's hurry and dig the ditch, and bury him!

Okay!

Pei Pei.

What?

He isn't dead!

Save me! Save me!

There's a child among your Vermilion Bird Star Mansions?

Yes, his name is Shi Pei Pei, he's a little imp.

Save me!

Save me!

Ah Su!

Shi Pei Pei?

Save me! Save me!

Save me! Save me!

Stop it!

He wants to kill me!

Who wants to kill you?

You're still arguing?! They even dug a hole this big there.

They wanted to bury me alive!

It wasn't my idea!

He said it!

I...I...!

Who are you?

Why did they want to kill you?

It's like this!

We discovered that this liar is actually the Vermilion Bird Extended Net Mansion.

And then, we wanted to keep him here.

Never thought that I will use too much energy.

So we almost killed him.

But look now! Isn't he jumping around just fine?

Wait a second. What did you say he is?

What Vermilion Bird Extended Net Mansion?

H-he is the Vermilion Bird Extended Net Mansion!

The mark is on top of his left hand.

Don't come over here!

It really is the Extended Net Mansion!

You wanted to kill the Vermilion Bird Extended Net Mansion?

Didn't we not kill him?

You two make me so angry!

Are you okay? Did you get hurt?

Who are you?

My name is Su Mo. This is the Star Mansion Chi Yu.

She is the Chariot Mansion Hong Ling.

I am the Willow Mansion Shi Pei Pei.

This is Well Mansion Ah Su.

What is your name?

I am Xiao Bing.

Xiao Bing? Then what's your surname?

He said he doesn't remember, this liar!

Yo're the liar! I really don't remember.

I don't remember what happened when I was a child.

I don't even know who I am.

That's fine. Then we'll just call you Xiao Bing.

Extended Net Mansion Xiao Bing.

This is great! If we find the Wings Mansion, we can summon the Vermilion Bird!

Why should I summon the Vermilion Bird with you?

Summoning the Vermilion Bird can help everyone make it through the drought.
