The Classic of Mountains and Seas - Legend of the Scarlet Shadow

Episode 19

You came to my Forget Worries Pavilion to create trouble?

How much money is my big sister worth?

What type of person are you looking for?

A person with a mark on their body.

A mark?

It's a "chariot" character.

What do you intend to do?

Jiu Li, Qing Qiu and Dong Ling are going to war soon.

Since Qing Qiu is going to war, why are you still taking Fu'er there?

I've known you for so many years, I know you too well.

You don't do anything without a benefit for you.

Timing & Subtitles brought to you by the Dancing Fingers @ Viki

You can't find her, right?

Come back to the hotel with me.

What are you doing?

I haven't found the Chariot Mansion!

What is a young lady doing here?

I will go find the Chariot Mansion. Go back.

No! I must find the Chariot Mansion before I go back.

Are you the only one that can stay here?

I am a man!

What type of place is this?

It's called Forget Worries Pavilion! There's not a single good man here!

You're at it again?

You are a man, I'm a woman.

So a lot of things that a man can do, I can't?

Yes.

There is a difference between men and women.

Why else would there be a distinction between men and women?

I can't just do nothing and wait!

I must, at least, get some news on the Chariot Mansion.

One day! Just one day, okay?

Just let me get some news on the Chariot Mansion.

If I can't get any news,

I'll leave with you.

Okay.

Just one day.

No matter if you find the Chariot Mansion or not,

you must go back.

Okay! It's a deal!

This.

What do you want to say now?

This is Big Brother Hong Tai's jade piece.

And?

Is there nothing you want to say?

For instance...you don't want him to leave.

You are very sad.

You want to stop him, things like that.

-I don't want to.-You liar!

You are clearly very worried and don't want him to leave.

I don't want him to leave.

But I won't stop him.

Because this is his own choice.

Big Brother Hong Tai said this.

He will definitely finish matters safely and return soon.

Don't worry.

-This piece of jade...-This piece of jade is like family to him.

In so many years,

he's suffered too much.

I am just his burden, really.

I am dragging him down.

It's not the way you think!

Brother Hong Tai has never thought that.

You are his companion, one like family.

Once he finishes matters, he'll return very soon.

He told me personally!

He also said

that everything was for your future.

He hopes that one day, you can openly and righteously go home.

To openly and rightfully become Qing Qiu's king.

Then do you hope for that?

Me? What does that have to do with me?

Of course, it does.

If I am Qing Qiu's king,

then you are Qing Qiu's queen.

I don't want to become queen!

-What I mean is, that you and I--Then, I don't need to become Qing Qiu's king.

You must keep this piece of jade well.

Become my companion.

I will keep it well for Big Brother Hong Tai.

You don't want to become my companion?

We are friends. A companion like a friend.

Actually, you like me.

Don't you?

Why won't you admit it?

We are good friends! Very, very good friends!

It's just like me and Big Brother Shangguan.

He and I may be friends that have gone through life and death,

but when you mention him I will still get jealous.

Do you know what I'm like when I'm jealous?

Like what? Am I supposed to be afraid of you?

I-! What are you doing? I'll hit you!

-Go ahead.-I really will!

So Mr. Chi Yu

likes to talk with my maid?

I'll go pour some tea for you.

You look quite nice today, Miss Hong Ling.

Then I'll play a song for you. How does that sound?

With things to enjoy and a beautiful sight to see,

to be able to have you sing for me,

I can't ask for more.

Sir, you don't like it?

It's just, this song has been played for a while.

I just want something new.

Then, if you like,

I will dance for you.

I heard that you have a girl here

who can do cartwheels.

Our girls here

are best at playing music, reading, chess, and drawing, as well as talking with people.

If you want to see cartwheels,

how about you go to the restaurant across the street to watch the acrobats?

I hope Miss won't find this strange.

It's just that after entering here,

I heard the girls keep talking about this one girl

who is very good at doing cartwheels.

It seems like it's this young lady.

Don't go too far!

I am a customer.

If I want to see you do cartwheels, I can't?

Sir, don't make things hard on her.

Since Miss Hong Ling says that,

then please continue playing the zither.

Thank you, Sir.

Miss Hong Ling, what's wrong?

Perhaps today the weather is a bit cold. I might have caught a cold.

You wore so little even knowing it's cold.

I'll bring the shawl for you.

It's in my room.

I'll come back quickly.

Miss Hong Ling, your maid is so cold to customers.

She really doesn't know propriety.

Sir, I have ruined your mood. Please be understanding.

Miss Hong Ling, I've waited a long time for you!

I'm not Hong Ling!

Miss Hong Ling,

I've waited so long for you. You don't care for me every time I come.

I already said that I'm not Hong Ling!

Then who are you?

I'm Hong Ling's new maid!

Maid?

I'm telling you, Hong Ling is in the garden right now.

She won't be back for a while.

What are you doing? I already said,

Miss Hong Ling is in the garden. If you want to find her,

go look for her in the garden! What are you stopping me for?

The garden is too far away; I don't want to go.

If you don't want to go, then I'll tell her for you.

Just what do you want?

You are quite interesting!

If you come closer, I won't hold back!

You don't need to hold back!

I've been waiting for so long, my body is full of fire!

You quite understand what I mean!

Do you not want to live anymore?

You dare to push me? Do you want to die?

Yes, yes, I do want to die! I'll die with you!

Miss Hong Ling, your maid has been gone for so long.

Is something keeping her?

Sir Chi Yu, you wanted Hong Ling to accompany you,

but you always think of my maid.

Have you fallen for that maid?

Sir! Hurry and find Mother to get medicine!

I must take my medicine!

I am stuck on one medicine!

Other medicines don't work!

Miss!

Go get medicine from Mother for Miss Hong Ling.

Miss Hong Ling, get some rest.

-I will leave first.-Sir!

Miss, why are you coughing so much? I'll go get medicine for you!

Get lost.

You dare to hit me?

The type I hit is people like you!

Ma'am, ma'am, stop hititng me!

Enough, enough. Stop hitting him! Look, he can't even get up anymore!

You'll kill him if you keep hitting him.

Leave this place with me.

Let go of me, that hurts!

If I came any later, something terrible would have happened to you!

I can take care of my own things! I can protect myself!

Protect? Just like what you were doing now?

But I was just about to beat that guy!

I don't want to hear you say anything right now. You must leave with me.

You're not keeping your word!

You promised me to give me one day's time!

But the deadline hasn't come yet!

Look at what type of people are in here!

Look at the way those men look at you,

and what they think inside their hearts.

I want to kill them al!

I'm not that weak!

I won't let others bully me. You're too overprotective.

Okay then. Then let's treat it as my being overprotective. Let's go!

Okay, I'll leave.

I only want to do something within my power.

Finding the Star Mansions was my responsibility to start with.

But all this time, you were all protecting and taking care of me.

I feel so useless!

I am very sad, guilty, and disappointed right now!

Originally, I thought

that I could be of some use to everyone.

But in the end, it still didn't work.

I feel like my life is useless!

Okay. Stop acting pitiful.

I promised you, just one day.

If those men are rude to you again,

I'll kill them all.

You must keep your word! Just one day.

Su Mo.

Miss Hong Ling, why are you here?

I'm sorry. I forgot that I had a customer in my room.

My god! Why are you so hot?

What are you standing there for? Hurry and help me bring her in.

Hong Ling, you don't want to see a doctor?

I've seen a lot of doctors.

But none of them are useful.

Miss Hong Ling, you are truly ill?

Sir, why do you ask that?

Miss Hong Ling, you should understand.

I just have this chronic illness. I'll be fine after taking my medicine.

But once I get a cold, the illness comes out again.

If you are suspicious of my illness,

I have no need to explain.

Stop being so suspicious. Why would a healthy person pretend to be sick?

Su Mo, there is something that I don't know if I should ask or not.

Go ahead and ask.

I am a girl of the prostitute house.

My best ability is, of course, reading through a person's language and expression.

I believe that you are like Sir Chi Yu,

and came for that character?

Actually, I won't keep it from you.

I want to find a person with the chariot character on their body.

Then, why do you want to look for this word?

What does that word mean?

It's the mark of the Chariot Mansion of the Vermilion Bird.

It's very important for us to find this person.

Vermilion Bird Chariot Mansion?

Only when we find the Chariot Mansion can we summon the Vermilion Bird.

Only then can we keep the people from suffering from the drought.

Then...you are the legendary

guardians that protect the divine beast god?

You've heard of it?

A long time ago. It's just that, living in chaotic times,

a lot more people are dreaming.

They feel like they cannot depend on themselves and depend on some divine power instead.

If the Vermilion Bird really had power, it should have shown up long ago.

How can it watch the people suffer from the drought like this?

The Vermilion Bird's power has to be summoned by the Mysterious Lady and the seven star mansions.

That's why we're in a rush to find the Chariot Mansion.

Then...you are...?

I am the Mysterious Lady of the Vermilion Bird.

The Mysterious Lady of the Vermilion Bird?

I only heard a few days ago

that the Mysterious Lady of the Vermilion Bird defeated a snake demon and recovered a water source.

I didn't think that I would have the fortune of seeing her in person today.

I'm not the one who defeated the snake demon. It was Big Brother Shangguan and him.

Then have you ever thought about what type of person the Chariot Mansion is?

I don't know either.

There are a lot of people here.

There are a lot of guests that come every day, too.

It's difficult to find it here.

However, I am willing to help you look.

Really?

If the Vermilion Bird can really be summoned and keep the people from suffering from a drought,

I am willing to make this effort.

Your body is weak and ill.

You should rest well first.

As for looking for that person, we have our own ways.

Sir Chi Yu, you never trusted me from the start.

Is it me, or my identity?

I come from a prostitute house, my status is low.

Do you feel like I am not worthy of helping you do something so great?

Of course not! We don't think that!

It's normal to think that way.

I am the star of the prostitute house,

The rich people that come here to pursue me

only treat me as a toy.

In this world, there are only a few who are refined.

Hong Ling, don't say that. You're pretty and smart.

How could no one be willing to be friends with you?

Do you really feel like you can be friends with me?

It is just Miss who feels that we are the ones who are not worthy to be your friends.

What are you saying?

I will also stop beating around the bush.

Do you think we were willing to be in this state since birth?

If I wasn't forced by my life,

who is willing to do this sort of job?

I am just a regular girl who can't be of much help.

But if I give it a try,

I will definitely not back down.

Hong Ling, you are saying that you are willing to help us?

Su Mo, I originally wanted to help you.

But Sir Yu looks down on people like me.

He feels like I am unclean and unfit to help you.

He definitely doesn't mean that!

Please go back.

If a young woman stays in this sort of place for long,

your reputation might be stained.

Don't say that!

Hurry and go out! Go out!

Go out!

It's all your fault! She was originally going to agree!

Can't you tell that she was full of lies?

I don't feel like it's that way.

I'm telling you, she's not as simple as you say she is.

She's not as complicated as you say!

I know what I'm doing!

Okay, I got it. Didn't we say that there was one day?

No matter what, I still have to fight.

The last chance then.

But today, I will be staying here.

Fine, I know.

Are you feeling better?

Why didn't you leave with him?

Before finding the Chariot Mansion, I will not leave.

Hong Ling,

you will help me right?

Then I am relieved.

Since I left my parents, there has been no one

who has been so caring towards me.

We are friends! It is only right to help each other.

You are the Mysterious Lady of the Vermilion Bird, are you really willing to be friends with me?

Why wouldn't I be? The two of us have fate,

right?

I think... the journey to awaken the Vermilion Bird,

it's not something that is easy right?

Since I left Peach Blossom Hollow,

I feel like I have gone through more things than I have in my previous life.

Then, do you regret being the Mysterious Lady?

What's the point of regretting?

Instead of sighing and feeling regret, why not muster the courage to walk forward

and look for the best ending!

This is true...

Have you ever thought of

what you will do after awakening the Vermilion Bird?

These things, I have thought of.

I want to ask for peace in the world and good harvests everywhere.

Then use the fire of the Vermilion Bird to save my tribe,

and return to Peach Blossom Hollow with Fu'er to live like before.

Just these? There is nothing else?

Nothing else! What else can I ask for?

For example... to be extremely rich

or...

to stay with that friend of yours forever.

Which friend?

Of course, I have to be together with my friend.

But Miss Hong Ling,

these things you are telling me about, I have never thought of.

Then what about you? What do you want to do?

Me?

What can I think of?

I am just meant to enjoy whatever I can until my time is up.

What's the point of thinking so much?

Are you okay?

Su Mo, I know of a place that can cure me.

What place?

(Chanting)

Wooden Cow?

Such a wicked craft.

This... This...

All hail Vermilion Bird Deity.

I beg of you, Vermilion Bird.

Please show yourself and protect us.

You must protect us.

Old man.

Miss Hong Ling, where are we going now?

On this mountain, there is a spiritual doctor who can heal me.

Let us quickly go then!

Are you okay?

Su Mo,

we are of different statuses. Why are you so nice to me?

Because I like you!

What do you like about me?

You are pretty and gentle, you know music and calligraphy;

of course, I like you!

Only you know how to make fun of me.

I really am not! If I were a man, I would definitely marry you!

But... I am a girl of a brothel.

So what if you work in a brothel?

You really don't mind me being from the brothel?

Of course, I don't; because it is not you who is willing.

If not for the fact that your days are difficult,

why would you choose to go to Forget Worries Pavilion?

You might be from the brothel, but you have a heroic heart.

It is something many will respect.

We just met each other. You are just trying to make me feel better.

I am really not!

If I were a man, I would definitely marry you.

Little Miss, you are so silly and innocent.

No wonder that Master Chi Yu likes you so much.

No way. We are just friends.

Matters between boys and girls cannot be hidden from me.

-But...-But what?

The man hasn't taken a wife and the woman hasn't taken a husband. What is there to sigh about?

It seems that my best friend also likes him.

Then let me ask you.

Your lover or your friends, which one is more important?

Friends.

Oh you...

I just realised that all of Chi Yu's feelings are given to you.

I think that friend's feelings are probably just a crush.

But I still cannot-

Cannot what? Steal someone's love?

Silly girl. Romance is the most frustrating thing in the world.

If two good friends liked the same person,

then this riddle can only be decided by the man.

But... I don't want to hurt Fu'er.

Then you think giving Mr. Chi Yu away so generously,

will the three of you be happy?

Miss Hong Ling,

this isolated place, how did you find out about it?

This doctor is a hermit.

He will not easily treat people.

Miss, please remove your shawl.

I will give you acupuncture.

You need a needle?

Why are you making a fuss?

I am extremely scared of needles.

Even though my father is a physician,

I've always been scared of needles. I can't look at them!

What is there to be scared of? Just close your eyes.

Even with my eyes closed, I know. I'm just really scared.

Miss, there is alcohol on that table; you can have a cup.

Right, just drink a little,

and you won't know anything after drinking.

I get drunk after just one cup.

After I knock out, I won't know anything.

It's you?

Yes, it's me.

Where is Hong Ling?

You should just worry about yourself first.

You want to escape from me?

It's not so easy!

Hong Ling!

Hong Ling!

Hong Ling!

Has she left already?

Vermilion Bird Mysterious Lady, your friend is in my hands.

You better hurry and come!

If not, my knife will spare no mercy!

Release her!

You indeed care a lot about others.

You just want me. Why give trouble to others!

Release her? If I release her,

with your strange ideas all the time, what will I do if you run away again?

Then haven't I already wasted my efforts?

I'll go with you. Let my friend go!

Then, Vermilion Bird Mysterious Lady,

I will have to let you suffer.

You still aren't releasing her!

Let her go!

Hurry and run. I have dragged you down.

I will be fine; don't worry.

Let's skip with this parting emotions.

Take her away!

Move!

Miss Hong Ling, you have indeed kept your promise.

I had no choice but to harm you a little.

I hope you weren't hurt.

I understand General's intentions. This doesn't matter.

Bright Sky Pearls, twenty of them.

I'm not missing any.

Thank you, General.

You people of Dong Ling really are willing to spend.

Just because of one little girl like that, you are willing to give me 20 Bright Sky Pearls.

I still cannot measure up to Miss Hong Ling's plans.

On one side you kept the Mysterious Lady close to you,

and you also managed to get the treasures of others.

Then here, you are making a deal with me.

You are benefiting from both sides.

I am just a little girl.

I cannot compare to General. I am only helping to get money for myself.

Miss is really a very practical person.

Maybe we can be friends.

I am from the brothel,

how can I be friends with the General of Dong Ling?

But maybe in the future,

if General needs help, I can do business with you.

I don't care for friends,

but benefits are more dependable.

Miss Hong Ling is straightforward.

I like making deals with smart people like you.

Friends, benefits, they're all lies.

Between people,

there are no forever friends, only forever benefits.

Don't you think it's true?

General is right.

You are the Vermilion Bird Mysterious Lady, why are you willing to be my friend?

Why not?

This is our fate,

isn't it?

This time when I go home, I will definitely get my father's approval

and I will openly marry you into my house.

But what if your father doesn't agree?

If he doesn't,

then we will elope.

No matter where we go,

it doesn't matter if we are dead, as long as we are together.

Don't say such things.

I will definitely wait for you.

Here, take this.

What are you doing?

These are the savings I have had over the years.

That day when I saw that you had received a letter from your home, your frowned eyebrows never relaxed.

So I secretly asked your studying companions.

Ao Yu, why don't we share your problems together?

Just take this money as my dowry.

Bring it home now, to settle your problems.

No way, Hong Ling. This is too precious.

I cannot keep them.

What is mine is yours.

Keep it well.

Hong Ling, trust me. In a month,

I will definitely come to marry you.

I will wait for you. I will definitely wait for your return.

Hong Ling.

He said he will be back in a month!

But now?

It's been four months already.

He's not that far from here.

Even if you talk about travel, there is no way he would take four months!

Daughter, that bastard!

He has cheated you of your money!

Look! Look!

It's there! It's there!

It's there!

Vermilion Bird God, please protect us.

Protect us!

Long live, Vermilion Bird Deity.

Vermilion Bird Deity, protect and bless us.

What kind of trick is this?

-Come! Let's go to the roof to see what he's doing. -Let's go.

This liar.

I knew it was a wicket craft.

Vermilion Bird Deity, bless us!

It's so miraculous!

Stop kneeling!

You people have been fooled by that priest!

What are you saying?

Stop talking!

You don't believe me?

You don't believe me, right?

Today, I will show you the truth!

Look!

Are you people silly?

See, it's wooden. And it moves!

Nonsense!

- Nonsense! You're blaspheming the Deity Spirit!- Right!

You are a cheat!

-You liar!-Explain things to us!

Just now,

who said I was a liar?

It was him.

You people still don't believe me?

It is me, so what?

I am smart, cute and generous.

I could immediately see through your tricks.

Is that so?

Then please say. What is

this thing?

There are so many?

There are more here!

You filthy commoners. You don't believe me.

Then you will have to beg for your own blessings.

Who said we didn't believe?

It was just those two!

It was them. It's all your fault!

Run!

Stand there!

Capture them!

Don't let them run!

-Liars!-Get lost!

Stand there!

Liars!

Stand there!

Don't run!

-Hit them!-Capture them!

Why is this group of people so stupid?

They have obviously been cheated by that old man.

Then what about those spiders?

It must be similiar to that wooden bird. Just a cheap trick.

We were going to look for you, old man.

But then you are actually here!

Today I want to see, what kind of tricks you are up to!

-Catch him!-Wait!

Wait awhile, little boy.

They are here!

They are here! Here!

-You will pay for this!-Hurry and go!

-Just you wait!-Hurry! Hurry!

Don't let them run!

Don't let them run!

This is where you treat your guests?

Vermilion Bird Mysterious Lady, you are full of tricks.

Of course, I must be more careful.

Where is Fu'er?

You are still thinking of your best friend?

She is fine now. Don't worry.

I want to see her.

I fear she doesn't want to see you.

What are you saying?

If she had forgiven you,

she wouldn't have left.

Then again,

the things your friend has done,

is it so easily forgiven?

Fu'er has already decided to stay

and take on the responsibility of being the Mysterious Lady of the Azure Blue Dragon.

How is it?

Surprising, right?

Don't need to be surprised.

It was all done by you, step-by-step;

you have pushed her here.

She has decided to have a fight with you.

You are spouting nonsense.

There are many who refuse to face the truth.

Even if she is the Azure Blue Dragon Mysterious Lady,

she would not be enemies with me.

We grew up together!

I know her!

Is that so?

But people can change.

Especially in the face of power and strength.

Can you guarantee that Fu'er will never change?

Don't try and separate us.

Whatever you say, I will not believe.

Even if Fu'er has changed,

then why are you stopping me from seeing her?

You are afraid.

Afraid that I will expose you after I see her!

After not seeing you for a few days, your mouth

has become even more amazing.

But you are too innocent.

There are many people...

you have only seen the surface of.

What he is thinking of inside,

is not something you can guess.

Stop wasting your words here.

I will definitely find a way to see her and take her away.

You cannot stop me.

Mysterious Lady of the Vermilion Bird, you hold on quite tightly to this relationship.

You want to take Fu'er away?

You can try.

Fine.

But I still need to eat first.

I'm hungry.

You are indeed smart.

You are captured but you are so calm.

You still want to eat?

Food is the most important thing for a human.

Then again, if I don't eat well, how would I escape?

-Men! -I'm here.

Our Vermilion Bird Mysterious Lady is hungry.

Give her some good food.

Yes!

You have tied me up like this, I can't eat.

I can feed you.

I would rather die than eat like this.

You are so anxious.

The ropes on your legs haven't been untied and you want to run.

Min Mountain's mulberry tree branches are the most sturdy in the world.

It cannot be cut by knives nor burnt by fire.

And also, I've put a spell on it. You stepping on it like that will not break it.

I beg you,

just stay here.

Looks like you really are broad-minded.

You are not afraid that this is your last meal?

You aren't afraid I will kill you?

Stop trying to scare me.

If you really wanted to kill me, you would have done so last night.

Why still bother bringing me here?

Now I just want to eat and drink well.

Then find a chance to escape.

I like your straightforwardness.

It's just a pity,

you are the Vermilion Bird Mysterious Lady.
