Original subtitles

(heavy synth music)

(dark synth music)

(engines rumbling)

(booming)

- They'll ruin the rock layers

with all their stupid blasting.

- Who cares?

I just want out of here.

There's nothing here but rocks.

This place sucks.

Hey Lynette, take a picture of this.

- Hey Lynette, come here.

- Well it's about time you noticed me,

Mr. All-Work-And-No-Play.

- This place rots.

- Very funny.

Take a look at this.

- They look like the same fossils

we've been digging up for the past two weeks.

- No, look closer.

This is the fossil of a small trilobite,

and this looks like the tooth

of a Cretaceous carnosaur.

Possibly an allosaur or tyrannosaurus rex.

- But how can that be?

- That's exactly what I'd like to know.

There has to be almost 90 million geological years

between the two species.

- But how could they both wash up here?

- I'd like to know.

It just doesn't make sense.

- Hold them up and let me get a photograph.

- Man, two more weeks of this scientific digging crap

and we can go home.

I'd do anything for a beer right now.

(wind howling)

- Well, I guess I'd better get back to work.

Sure hope those charges take.

(booming)

(intense synth music)

- Hang on!

(light synth music)

- Phew, smells like rock gas.

- Is everyone okay?

I don't know what the hell that was,

but I'm gonna go and check it out.

Who's going with me?

- I'll go.

- Okay Charlie, let's go.

Okay, I want the rest of you to go back to the trucks

and get your gear, because we're camping here tonight.

- Why don't we just go back to town?

- I'm sorry, but we're behind schedule.

Roughing it never killed anyone.

- Can I at least come with you?

- No, you'd better stay here.

(light synth music)

(coughing)

(growling)

- What on Earth is that?

That thing's alive!

Oh my God!

I'm getting out of here!

(roaring)

- [Charlie] Are you and Lynette still seeing each other?

- Well, I don't know.

When I signed up for this project,

I had no idea that she would be here too.

- Did you meet her at the archeological institute?

- No, I've known Lynette since the fifth grade.

- And she's still crazy about you?

Doesn't that tell you anything, stupid?

- I guess.

But I'm really too busy to worry about it.

- Too bad.

These last two weeks could've been an early honeymoon

instead of a rock hunt.

- Someday, Charlie, but work comes first.

- Not me.

Lovin' a lady comes before anything.

- If you put half your efforts into archeology

as you do trying to land a woman,

you may just amount to something.

- I'm not the type to give up.

Look how popular Edison was.

- Did you know that Edison had eight thousand failures

before he finally discovered the telegraph?

- Eight thousand?

I'd be dead if I had to work with those odds!

- Exactly.

You'd better stick to digging rocks.

(panting)

- These damn tunnels all look the same.

(snarling)

What was that?

Something's following me!

(roaring)

(screaming)

- Allan...

Please be careful.

(growling)

(roaring)

(soft instrumental music)

- Allan, why are you so interested in dinosaurs anyway?

- Because they're big, green, and ugly.

Kinda like you.

(creepy synth music)

(growling)

(eerie synth music)

Look at the hole in that mountain.

- The men who did this must still be here somewhere.

- We better be careful.

There could still be some charges left in the rocks.

Come on.

- What's that smell?

- Probably rock gas.

It forms in old sediment layers.

- You want to go inside and take a look around?

- Nah, there's nothing to see.

Hmm, this is strange.

(water gurgling)

Come on, we better go.

- Sure, I don't like this place anyway.

Gives me the willies.

(snarling)

(tense synth music)

- Here, I got you something to drink.

- Thanks, Lynette.

- What did you find out there this afternoon?

- Oh, just a big hole in the rocks, that's all.

- From that blasting company?

- Yeah, they're working about

a mile and a half east of here.

Are you cold?

Here, take my jacket.

- Thanks.

- Hey man, share that.

(puffing joint)

Here.

- [Lynette] This fall, what are you going to do?

- Well, I'll have my bachelor's degree in science.

I'd really like to do field work.

Excavating sites, that kind of stuff.

That means I'll probably be working out of the state.

- But that means you'll be...

- Leaving the institute, yeah.

- Is that what you really want?

- I don't know.

(growling)

- Whoa!

Man, what the hell?

- I don't know.

Would you shut up?

(tense synth music)

(roaring)

- It's gone away.

- Everything is okay.

Settle down, it was just an animal of some kind.

We'll keep watch tonight in case it decides to come back.

Now, tomorrow's Sunday, our day off,

and at 11, we'll head back to the motel.

- I don't like this place.

- It's okay, try to get some rest.

(light instrumental music)

- Look at the size of that footprint!

(intense synth music)

(gasping)

You scared me!

- Sorry.

But what are you doing?

- Take a look at this.

- Incredible!

Lynette, there's aren't fossilized footprints.

They're fresh.

- That animal we heard last night,

could they belong to that?

- I certainly hope not.

These are tracks from a theropod, a flesh-eating dinosaur.

- Mr. Lizard...

What could you be doing still alive out there today?

- Not a word about what we saw.

Not yet, okay?

- I'm not sure I believe it myself.

- Okay gang, back to town!

- It's party time!

(snarling)

(intense synth music)

(roaring)

- Help!

(snarling) (screaming)

(bright synth music)

- Hello, yes, I want to speak to Professor Tanner, please.

Thank you.

Professor Tanner, it's Allan.

Good, everything's fine.

Well, you're not gonna believe this.

No, we found more than fossils.

Fresh tracks from an adult theropod.

Yes I'm serious, dead serious.

No, we haven't seen a live dinosaur yet.

Yeah, look, I'm gonna be sending you some stuff in the mail.

Some pictures and rock samples, okay?

I'll call you back tomorrow.

Thanks, Professor.

Bye.

Where are you going?

- Down to the bar.

I'm gonna get drunk.

- But take it easy on the booze,

we still have a lot of work to do at the site tomorrow.

- Yeah yeah yeah, you sound like my mother.

- Who is it?

- It's me, Allan.

- Come on in, it's unlocked.

- I just talked to the professor.

- What did he say?

- He was very excited about what we found.

He asked me if we saw any live dinosaurs yet.

- Sometimes I wonder if his interests

are more than scientific.

What's that?

- What, this?

That's a scale.

- From the tyrannosaurus evidence we found?

- No, this scale belongs to a plated dinosaur.

An ankylosaur, even a stegosaur.

- You mean there could be two dinosaur carcasses out there,

a tyrannosaurus and a stegosaurus?

- Not carcasses.

These animals are alive.

- But how?

That's incredible!

- I know.

This scale was found outside the cave entrance.

- All that blasting.

Could they have uncovered it somehow?

- Yes, but how could they just come to life?

Unless...

- What?

- The gas, the gas!

When we went to the cave entrance,

Charlie and I could smell the heavy odor of rock gas.

That could have kept them perfectly preserved,

slowing their bodies down to a sort of crude hibernation.

And when oxygen got into their lungs, they woke back up.

It's incredible!

Do you want to go out there and look around?

Just you and I.

- Just you and I, Allan?

Isn't that a little romantic?

Doesn't that scare you?

- You know what I mean.

- Gimme a minute, okay?

(roaring)

(phone ringing)

- Hello?

Speaking.

Well, Professor Tanner.

Long time no see.

What does my scientific friend want this time?

No more African bull elephants, huh?

What?

A hundred thousand dollars?

For what, golden elephants?

The prize of a lifetime?

You're kidding!

Well, I'm interested.

Keep talking.

What do you mean?

I can hunt anything.

Dead or alive, Professor.

Well, I'll do my best,

but I can't promise you they'll be in one piece

when I'm through with them.

I'll call you as soon as I get there.

Ciao.

Dinosaurs...

And the prize of a lifetime!

(chuckling)

- Get your camera ready,

because you might just get the photo of your life.

- Please, stick by me.

(dark synth music)

- Tanner can keep the carcasses.

But I want their heads on a wall mount.

- We haven't seen anything yet.

Are you sure someone isn't playing a practical joke on us?

- No, it can't be.

(growling)

(soft synth music)

- Look at that!

- Shh!

Don't move, it might charge us.

- I thought they were supposed to be peaceful plant eaters.

- They are, but let's not take any chances.

- Look, it's coming over here.

Look, it's friendly.

Go ahead and feed it, Allan.

- You feed it!

This poor thing must be very confused.

- She's beautiful.

Let me get some photos.

- Atta boy, good boy.

- Let's name it.

- Name it?

This isn't a house pet!

It's a prehistoric dinosaur!

- What's wrong, did we frighten it?

- No, it senses something.

Maybe danger!

(snarling)

Did you hear that?

The only thing that could terrify another dinosaur like that

is a king of the beasts.

Tyrannosaurus rex.

(intense synth music)

(screaming)

Run, this way!

(roaring)

- Boy, that was close.

- I don't think it was looking for us.

It smelled the scent of the stegosaurus.

Come on, let's get the hell out of here.

(light instrumental music)

- [Hunter] There's their truck.

I'll just follow them back to town.

- What is it, Allan?

- Charlie, come here.

I need to talk to you, it's important.

- Send us home?

What's going on?

Dinosaurs?

Are you serious?

- Shh!

I don't want the whole world to know.

I'm gonna call the professor back.

This is too big for our small operation.

- Dinosaurs?

- Shh!

- The rest of us could be out of here in an hour,

but what are you gonna do?

- I'm not quite sure.

Come on, Lynette.

- Good luck!

Okay guys, there's been a change of plans.

- There's no answer.

- That's strange, the professor never leaves the institute.

- Something strange is going on.

Let's get back to the motel.

(soft synth music)

(intense synth music)

We need to get out of here, like the others.

- You two ain't going anywhere.

Not yet, anyway.

- What do you want?

Who are you?

- Tanner sent me.

- He wants those dinosaurs for himself

so he can exploit them!

- He'll make millions,

and I'm getting paid to bring 'em back!

- And you're being paid handsomely, no doubt.

- Right again, pretty lady.

- Well, you're not getting any help from us!

- Guess again, college boy.

We're wasting time.

Move!

Get a move on, let's go, go on!

- They're in trouble!

- I get the feeling that you don't like us.

- I've got this thing about people with higher educations.

(dark synth music)

- What are we gonna do?

- You just shut up and drive, college boy,

and nobody will get hurt.

- The professor, how do you know him?

- I've worked with him before.

Got him other fancy animals

to sell to other interested parties.

Heh!

- Black market on animals?

How could he be so sick?

- You shut up!

- You're pretty stupid if you think that's gonna stop them.

- You pipe down, or I'll do something awful to your sweetie.

- It's okay man, it's okay.

- I've hunted them all.

Some of the biggest.

But nothing this big.

(goose quacking)

(party chattering)

(tense synth music)

(snarling)

(screaming)

(engine sputtering)

(roaring)

(roaring)

(screaming)

- Come here, Lynette.

- Just in case you get any ideas about leaving me...

(gun banging)

There.

Now we're all going down to Fossil Valley,

and we're not coming back

unless we've got those monsters wearing body bags!

- I think you're making a big mistake.

- You are if you open your mouth one more time.

Now move!

(siren wailing)

Where are those damn things?

What are you doing?

- Nothing.

- Keep going, they can't be far.

(upbeat synth music)

- [Anchorwoman] This is Sandra Martin

reporting live for channel 22 at Fossil Valley Lodge,

where moments ago an earth-shaking spectacle took place.

In the course of what seemed to be minutes,

the small resort area was leveled,

leaving scores of tourists injured and several dead.

Fires burn out of control

as rescue workers tend to those in need.

Many eyewitnesses stand in shock, unable to communicate.

Resort owner Marty Fairbanks says he saw

what appeared to be large animals stampede out of the woods

and attack each other.

After a small scuffle, the taller of the two creatures

began to attack panic-stricken people,

eating and chewing them, and swallowing them whole.

It is not known at this time the origin of these animals,

but they are dangerous,

and officials are tracking them

into the deeper regions of Fossil Valley,

where authorities hope to destroy the beasts.

In an unrelated case, two college students were seen

being taken hostage in the Westmont district.

They were led to a truck

which drove off in the direction of southern Fossil Valley.

We'll keep you posted on this and unfolding events

as we receive them.

(siren wailing)

This is Sandra Martin for Channel 22 News.

(upbeat synth music)

- Lynette, are you okay?

- Come on, get up.

- We're here, so why don't you lay off?

- I don't care.

You're gonna take me to those dinosaurs.

- This is the place, you idiot!

- We did our part, now let us go!

- Oh no, not so soon.

I don't see any big lizards.

You're gonna take me to where they are.

Now get up, move!

(fist thudding)

- Charlie!

- I knew you guys were in trouble, so I followed behind.

- Lucky for us you did.

- I got some bad news.

- Is it about the dinosaurs?

- Yeah.

Do you know where Fossil Valley Lodge is?

- Yeah, so?

- Those two dinosaurs tore through there in a frenzy,

fighting and carrying on.

A lot of people are dead.

- Dammit, we've got to do something!

- There's only one thing to do.

They gotta be destroyed!

- No, you can't kill them!

At least let the plated dinosaur live, it's friendly.

- It ate out of my hand.

- Allan, what kind of life would they have?

The whole world knows about them.

I'm sorry, their time has long since passed.

- Yeah, you're right.

- They're both locked in mortal combat.

It doesn't look like they're gonna let up.

- A battle of two titans.

- Yeah, but this battle

should've happened 40 million years ago.

- Well, what do we do with him?

- Leave him here.

Worms gotta eat.

Same as a buzzard.

(dark synth music)

(snarling)

- Look at that!

- Wow, look at that!

- The last of the dinosaurs.

- The stegosaur's wounded.

- It doesn't stand a chance.

Isn't there anything we can do?

- No.

It's out of our hands now.

(gun banging)

- (gasps) Charlie!

- You didn't have to do that, you--

- Shut up!

You're next.

Look at the size of that lizard!

- What are you gonna do now?

- I've got a tranquilizer gun

that'll knock the piss out of anything, even that.

- That's not gonna stop it.

It's just gonna make it mad,

and it's gonna kill us all, you idiot!

(grunting)

- No!

Help me!

- It saved my life, Allan.

- It's okay, it's all over.

(crunching)

Don't look!

- We need to get out of here!

(upbeat synth music)

It's no use!

- Keep running!

- It's a dead end!

- We're trapped!

- We're gonna die!

- Matches!

- What?

- The ones you used to start the campfire.

Give them to me!

- Here.

- Stay there.

- Allan!

- Chew on this, you prehistoric piece of luggage!

(booming)

(sobbing)

It's okay.

(light synth music)

- It's so sad, the way this all had to end.

- In a way, it's good.

They're home.

Where they belong.

- Allan, Lynette!

- Charlie!

We thought you were dead.

- The bullet just grazed me.

For a hunter, that guy was a pretty lousy shot.

- We can be thankful it's all over.

Come on, let's go home.

We're gonna have a hard time explaining this to the police.

- You know guys, it doesn't get any better than this.

(eerie synth music)

(roaring)

(screaming)

(upbeat synth music)
