Original subtitles

JIRAIYA (VOICEOVER): Against this foe,

there shall be no playing it by ear.

We'll be going full strength from the get-go.

-I'm using honored Sage Mode.

-What?

You don't mean--

-Yes, indeed.

I'm summoning the two great sages.

But it's still going to take me a little

while before I'm able to summon the both of them here.

And until that time, I can't release my hands.

Till then, I'm counting on you to buy me some time.

GAMAKEN: All right.

Ungraceful as I am, I shall try.

-He just vanished.

Aw, what a bother.

Now where do you suppose he ever found a creature such as that?

Since he's made himself invisible,

we've got to use barrier battle arts.

GAMAKEN: He's sure a tough one to battle.

-As I recall, this barrier ninjutsu

senses any intrusion across its boundary.

Well, then--

-He saw the barrier and switched to an attack-heavy critter,

huh?

Mr. Gamaken!

-Right.

Ungraceful as I am, here we go!

Hey, you're pretty good.

GAMAKEN: Not at all.

I'm as ungraceful as ever.

-What now?

[music playing]

What?

What is this?

I hope you're OK, Mr. Gamaken.

But do you think you can do this a little bit smoother from here

on out?

-I'll try, but I am ungraceful.

-They multiply every time you clobber them.

I have no idea what they even are.

Could they be doggies that are bound

to a self-replicating summoning jutsu?

In any case, we better get out of here.

We'll kill them one at a time.

Let's lower them into an enclosed space.

-Right.

-Huh?

[music playing]

PAIN: So that's the heart of the jutsu, is it?

-Did we lose him?

That should buy us some time.

Or not!

[music playing]

They already managed to surround us.

Incoming, and they're going to split up again.

Above us!

There's just no end to this.

GAMAKEN: I really am trying my best here, you know.

-If they simply keep dividing no matter how hard we strike them,

hitting them's a waste of our energy.

[growling]

They're here already?

Damn, they have a one-track mind.

Stupid little mutts!

Are you OK?

Mr. Gamaken!

-I really am quite ungraceful.

-If you're unable to move, Mr. Gamaken, then there's

no time left for me to summon the two great sages.

Well, I give up.

I really am amazed that there are so many of them.

But against the Hermit Sage of the Mount Myoboku Toads,

you're nothing at all but a small snack!

[music playing]

[growling]

-He's gone, along with the dogs, too.

So he's escaped for now.

JIRAIYA: I haven't escaped.

[music playing]

Nagato, you're still a rookie at this.

You left yourself open for attack!

So that's just a shadow clone, too?

-Yes.

But that isn't all.

At the same time, summoning jutsu!

-Damn it!

JIRAIYA (VOICEOVER): This is bad.

Mr Gamaken!

[screeching]

What?

You're done for the day!

I did it.

JIRAIYA (VOICEOVER): I tell you, it's

just one thing after another.

But I'm almost there.

I can't very well quit now.

But still-- incoming!

So fast!

-So sorry.

I'm a bit late.

Nicely done.

Right.

Now, I want to attack the caster,

but I still need to be able to see him to do that.

Mr. Gamaken, don't you think something funny's going on

around here?

-I don't know.

I'm too ungraceful to know what you mean by that.

[music playing]

JIRAIYA (VOICEOVER): He who possessed the same pupils

as the Sage of the Six Paths not only mastered every jutsu

I taught him, but he also demonstrated the ability

to achieve all six changes in chakra nature, which

is unheard of in a single person.

He was well versed in all mainstream ninjutsu,

and he mastered all sorts of jutsu

by the time he was only 10 years old.

And yet, why?

Why is he only using the summoning jutsu against me?

Does he think I'm beneath the need for direct confrontation?

JIRAIYA: Mr. Gamaken, go home.

You've done enough.

I'll take it from here.

-All right.

Forgive me.

[music playing]

SHIMA: Lad, why do you always have

to summon us to such rowdy places?

I sure can't fault Bunta for yelling at you,

the way you behave.

FUKASAKU: Now, now, Ma.

You just let him be, you hear me?

I'm sure that Jiraiya boy has his reasons for what he's--

SHIMA: Oh, you just shut your trap, Pa.

JIRAIYA: I know it's been a while,

and I do apologize for the circumstances, Boss, ma'am.

FUKASAKU: But lad, I thought you told me you hated

taking this form, saying it would

make you unpopular with the ladies.

JIRAIYA: I can't afford to be particular right now.

After all, my foe possesses the Rinnegan.

SHIMA: The pupils of Six Paths?

FUKASAKU: Really?

It actually exists?

Well, then you're right.

You had absolutely no choice.

[music playing]

You know, someday you really got to start

being able to go into Sage Mode all by yourself, Jiraiya, boy.

JIRAIYA: Compared to the two of you, I'm still just a novice.

So please, lend me your aid for just a little while.

All right, shall we begin?

PAIN (VOICEOVER): He went through all of that

just so he could summon those two toads?

No.

Sensei's undergone a transformation himself.

Whether it's Orochimaru or Jiraiya,

the Sannin each have unique powers.

-So?

Where is this foe, then?

The one with the pupils of Six Paths?

-Your eyes must be degrading with age.

-No, it's not your eyes.

He's hidden himself inside a summoning creature

that can make itself transparent.

-It's got to be one of them there chameleon species.

-I erected a probe barrier so I can detect him.

-That will only maintain a stalemate.

Let's drag him out using creature detection jutsu!

FUKASAKU: Ma, don't get so excited.

You know the only thing that that's going to do

is give you more wrinkles.

SHIMA: You shut your trap, Pa.

FUKASAKU: But Jiraiya, boy, why did you

have to fight such an ornery fellow, anyway?

And why go so far as to summon us to help you fight him?

-This opponent happens to be a former student of mine.

-I never heard one word of this, Jiraiya, boy.

So, is he the one, then?

-Yes.

[music playing]

You summoned me?

-Oh, how nice.

So you've finally come.

-He's dreamt of you, Jiraiya, boy.

And as you are no doubt aware, his dream was not just a dream.

It was a prophecy of the future, which he will now tell you.

So listen carefully.

-Yes.

-I shall now tell you.

I will relate my dream.

You, who are singularly pervy, shall become a great ninja.

And once you do, you shall acquire

an apprentice of your very own.

That apprentice will become a ninja

who will bring about a great change in the ninja world.

That is what I foresaw in my dream.

-A great change?

-Either great stability or great destruction,

the likes of which this world has never seen.

But which of these two I cannot say.

-The child of prophecy.

Then why are you battling him, Jiraiya?

-Well, from what I've seen of him so far,

it appears he didn't grow up in the right direction.

And back when I heard that he and the other two of them

had died, I assumed he couldn't have

been the one from the prophecy.

FUKASAKU: Well, in that case, if he's not

virtuous it's your duty to kill him.

SHIMA: Besides, that prophecy's probably

nothing more than a senile old geezer's rantings.

All right.

Let's do it!

Aha, found him!

-It's so fast.

-I got you!

There we go.

Now you, Pa.

-Yo.

-So that's the Rinnegan, huh?

It certainly does look like the one mentioned in the legend,

doesn't it?

FUKASAKU: What nasty eyes.

I can't believe he's the child of prophecy.

GREAT TOAD SAGE (VOICEOVER): You will be the one

to guide this revolutionary change.

And eventually, there will come a day

when you will be forced to make a critical selection.

-To make a selection?

-Yes.

And whatever choice you end up making

will direct the way that this change is going to go.

JIRAIYA (VOICEOVER): Great Lord Elder,

I wonder if this is that moment of selection you talked about.

-Summoning jutsu.

JIRAIYA (VOICEOVER): This time he summoned humans.

-You turned out to be a harbinger of destruction.

And so, as your teacher, it's my duty to take you down.

[music playing]

JIRAIYA (VOICEOVER): Those three--

they may look different, but they all have the same eyes.

Even if one of them is Nagato, I can't

believe that there'd be that many people milling

about with a Rinnegan.

So just what in the world is going on here?

There has to be some kind of trick.

And who or what is this Pain?

Next time-- "In Attendance, the Six Paths of Pain."

Pay close attention.

You're not going to want to miss a second of my battle.
