Uh...

Now...

Hi there.

My name is Andrew Richard Freeman.

This is my first entry in my video sleep diary.

I'm 35. I live in Gresham, Oregon.

Just outside of Portland.

(small sigh) I've never slept well.

I, um...

I've suffered from sleep paralysis for as long as I can remem..

Uh, it's a condition where you wake up and you can't move.

Arms, fingers, legs, toes, everything.

You're physically paralyzed.

(draws breath) It's utterly terrifying.

It feels like there's somebody sitting in your chest,

stealing your breath,

staring at you in your sleep.

Even when you can start to move,

it feels like there's somebody lurking in the shadows,

staring at you.

[dog barks]

But that's just the half of it.

I've also been known to sleepwalk for years,

often waking up in the backyard,

uh... losing endless amounts of time

in narcoleptic episodes.

So yeah, needless to say, I have a sleeping problem.

And that's where you come in, Mr. Camera.

I want to find out what's going on,

and I'm going to take you with me, everywhere I go.

Except the bathroom, that'd be gross.

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.

Oh, there you are. (Light laughter)

Forgot about me, did you?

I know you did.

I know you did.

Well, this is my humble abode.

For now.

It's been doing all right for me, you know.

Got a kitchen.

Ooh, got pizza, probably a little bit of pizza left.

It's fantastic.

No more, Mr. Pizza.

[camera beeps]

All right.

Well...

(groans)

The wild thing about sleepwalking is you can still do an abundance of things.

You might be on a daily basis.

Cooking, cleaning, maybe not me so much, like cooking, but

anything with a familiar repetitive motion...

is possible.

So let's see if I can move this in my sleep.

(smacks lips)

I don't think so.

There you are.

Yeah.

Oh, there we are.

All right.

Video sleep diary, night one.

(sighs)

All right. Shouldn't have dranken that coffee.

This will be all right.

Yes.

(sighs)

(toilet flushes)

[stumbles] Shit, shit.

What the fuck is this?

What the fuck is this shit?

What the fuck is this?

What the shit is this?

[water splashing]

Hey, how are ya?

Morning.

(gasps)

(confused sigh)

Not a drop.

[mouse clicking]

[keyboard keys tapping]

(grumbles)

[static fuzz]

[brief break in static fuzz for an instant]

(whispering) What is that?

[static continues]

[static breaks up]

(gasps)

[chair scraping]

Hey, sis. How are you?

(laughs)

Uh, not so great.

Yeah, I don't know.

Just like with the funeral and all the work that had to b..

it's just been like too much for me to handle.

Look, I was kind of wondering,

do you think you can come up for like a week?

To keep me company?

It's just an empty house, you know what I mean?

Really? Laur, thank you.

All right. No, I will.

All right, all right.

Oh, shit.

[clomping footsteps]

(sighs)

Yeah...

I never liked this room much anyway.

Yeah.

This is a bad idea. What the hell was I thinking?

Use dad's death as an excuse to get Laurie out here

because you think you're being abducted by aliens?

But that's just it.

There's no other explanation.

[fumbling at the door]

- Hey! - I know. I know.

Come on! Where were you? Where were you? Where were you?

- I'm sorry. - I was worried.

- Is the cabbie still here? - No, I got it.

- I'll pay for it. - Hey, shut up. I paid for it.

- I got it. I got it. - He's gone.

Let me take your stuff downstairs. Let me take this.

- Come on. Thank you. - Relax, dude.

I was worried.

Well, don't worry. I'm here.

Help yourself. There's uh, some beer in the fridge.

Good, Lord. You're like an F5 tornado right now.

- Come in here. - Can I borrow your phone?

- I need to call Jason. - Yeah, here. It's fine. It's fine.

- Here, take it. - Okay.

Come here.

Bring it in. Bring it in, brother.

Thank you.

Thank you.

- Did you clean up for me? - Yeah. Help..

I'll be right up.

Hey, hon. It's me.

I know.

Shut up. Shut up.

Oh, it was fine.

It wasn't really long enough for a movie, but I had to work anyway.

Mm-hmm.

How are you?

Awww.

Hey, no scraps.

Don't want him begging when I get home.

Oh, yeah, sure. Mm-hmm.

Oh, uh-huh. Yeah...

I find crumbs on the couch suspiciously after you've been over.

Mm-hmm.

[chortle]

Okay.

Hey, um, I left some travel magazines with tabs in them.

Just look at the ones I've marked and we'll decide if,

you know...

Nothing. Sorry.

Can I call you later?

I'm tired and hungry and...

Okay. Okay. Love you. Bye.

Good.

What's with the camera?

- Oh, uh... - Is it recording?

Uh, no. I'll explain later. Uh, no, it's not.

- Okay. - It's not. Oh, look are you hungry?

- Oh, my God. - Pizza and beer on me.

Giovanni's... I would kill for a calzone.

- Come on. - I would kill a small child for a calzone.

- Well, they don't have that anymore. - What?

They took it off the menu completely. It's not on the menu.

Aw, oh, no!

Seriously?

No, I'm kidding.

That's funny, it's a funny joke. You want your phone back?

Well, you can't have it. (Laughs)

Nope... Fine. This mean, you're getting drunk?

[water running]

(sharp inhale)

I didn't mean for it to be this way.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

Come on. I took off another week of work, left Jason to come out here.

For what? For you to tell me some story about little green men?

Actually, they're gray.

And you can turn that fucking thing off.

[camera beeps]

[tea kettle whistles]

[kettle clangs]

(exhale) Please.

You promised me a chance to explain myself.

Just give me the benefit of the doubt.

All right, so here I am,

I'm already in bed, tossing and turning a little bit.

And this is where it starts to get weird.

There.

That's the best shot of them.

Okay, obviously lightning.

And no thunder?

Okay, then it's a car.

A flying car. It's a skylight.

Okay, then it's reflecting off of something.

We have trees above the house, and last time I checked, they're not made of metal.

What about the opening door?

Um, wind?

And wind closed the door, too.

Yeah, Drew, it's a drafty house.

- Shit like that happens. - You know that's impossible.

No, aliens are impossible, okay?

Okay, if you say it's a UFO, it's a UFO.

I clearly am not gonna sway you otherwise.

Just stick with me on this. (Laurie sighs in frustration)

Look at the interference.

[static fuzz]

All right, not only does it reappear after the interference,

but this happens.

(Drew struggling, gasping for breath)

And I wasn't in bed during the interference.

(Drew whispers) Look.

What do you want from me?

I want you to help me figure out what's going on with me.

The lights are a helicopter.

The wind blew the door open.

You sleepwalked outside, and then a bad dream woke you up.

Like, Drew, come on. This shit happened all the time when you were little.

The bad dreams, the sleepwalking.

Why is it a big deal now?

Just let me show you.

No, uh-uh. I'm gonna look at it myself. Thanks.

- All right. - And why don't you leave

so I can make my own decision?

Please?

I can show you how to use it.

I can work a computer, Drew. Thank you.

(grunt of acceptance)

[car rattling]

[tires screech]

[man on TV shouting]

I'm gonna keep my flight home the same,

but let's just not, like, talk about aliens the whole time.

- All right. - I'm gonna give you a chance,

but light through a window doesn't cut it.

- Yeah. - I'm gonna need some hard evidence.

Yeah.

Laurie said to get evidence, and that's what I'm doing.

So I had security cams installed in every room of the house.

Cost a pretty penny, uh, but I'm not gonna lie to you.

If you're gonna do something, in my opinion, you've got to really do it. So...

I got the stairway covered and the hallway,

as you can see there,

and...

Yeah. We're just gonna see how this goes.

And the ace in the hole,

Paul and Richard

across the street, more than happy...

to set a camera out front, keep an eye on the house.

Like to watch out for each other around here.

As good neighbors do.

So it cost me a case of beer, $200 each.

But it would be worth it if we get it on camera.

- Come on. What are you doing? - I'm just getting exterior shots.

Neighborhood.

Oh, oh, good. You wanna help me?

Yeah, yeah, I gotcha.

- Hey. - Hey.

No. Come on.

Oh God, I don't even wanna know.

Hey, uh, you get the peanut butter?

Yes!

Thank you.

- Is it traffic? - Stop!

This is great.

That's good.

(whispers) That's good.

(satisfied grunt)

Son of a bitch.

Drew!

What is this?

Uh... uh you told me to gather evidence.

No, I am not your evidence.

Um, can you just let me explain myself?

Not happening, Drew.

Not fucking happening.

(frustrated sigh)

Hey, wait, wait.

- Okay. This is my camera now. - Yeah.

You are not allowed to take it out of my room,

look at the footage, or do anything with it.

- What if-- - If something happens,

we'll talk about it then.

[keyboard keys typing]

(scoffs)

[phone buzzes]

Hey, hold on.

Hey, hon.

Oh, you know, Drew's being Drew.

I'd rather not talk about it, actually.

What's up with you?

[intense music on TV]

No, it's not stupid. I mean, you gave them the estimate weeks ago.

If they want a new one, they have to pay for it.

(chuckle) Right?

Hey, so, I know we've been tossing around a lot of places,

but I was really hoping we could do Italy.

Okay. (Small scoff)

No.

Look, I'm not trying to run the whole thing,

but what's the point of a romantic getaway

if we're not even gonna have one day of sunshine?

Come on, England is so depressing.

I want to lay naked on the beach with you

and drink an expensive bottle of wine and get fat on pasta.

(muffled grumble)

I'm, I'm sorry.

It's just--it's been a weird day.

Drew's--

Forget it. Um...

Yeah, and, well, I need to do a lot of work still,

so can we just call a timeout?

Talk about it in the morning.

Okay.

I love you, too.

Bye.

[Hey, come on, Barb. Church was this morning, huh?]

[thunder on TV]

[bottlecaps popped]

Truce?

Truce.

What'd you get?

A split?

- A little crispy. - Yeah.

Scoot over.

Hold on a second. I will.

See, you realize, uh,

I was right.

That's what this is. I mean, kind of.

I mean, we're both mutually right, but, like,

you have an idea that I wasn't so off.

- And my, you respect my-- - Hey, you want to eat some pizza

and drink some beer or you want to talk about things?

- Fine. - Okay.

[They're coming to get you, Barbara.]

Oh, hell no.

[Stop it. You're ignorant.]

Hmm.

[Baby, this town's going to hell in a handb..

[It'll get better, Ricky Rico.]

[phone alarm]

(sleepy sigh)

[door lock clicks]

Drew, you're an idiot.

Yeah, I checked on you last night. What you going to do about it?

How'd you get another key for my room?

Psh, ninja.

[amused scoff]

All right, take that.

Come on!

Come on! Are you kidding me? Are you--

I had a really good turn.

- Alright. - Come on, it's your turn, go.

- All right. Um, where am I? - You're the dog.

All right, nothing. That's boring. That's me. Uh-oh.

What do I owe you? What do I owe you?

- Come on. - Pay attention.

- Okay, God, this game takes forever. - What do I owe ..

Hold on. This is why you're losing.

This is why you're losing.

Mediterranean, $2 dollars! $2 dollars!

Hey, do you want another beer?

Do I want another beer?

Am I an idiot for asking or what?

- Yes. - You still have to finish that.

I want another beer.

- What else do you want? What ..

- Hey, hey, hey. - I'm done.

- I'm watching you. - I'm fuc--go away.

- I'm watching you. - Go away.

Shh.

You don't see a thing.

(drunk chuckle)

Oh, where's the dog?

- I'm watching you. - What?

[screeching static]

[phone alarm]

[static continues]

[alarm keeps ringing]

[screeching static ends]

[Drew struggling to breathe]

(anxious panting)

Laurie! [Pounding on door]

Laurie, it happened again! They came for me!

They came for me! Come on, we gotta look at the footage.

No, we have to look at it now!

[laughing]

There it is, the lights again! Fuck me!

Come on, there's gotta be an explanation. They're lights.

No, no, no. They're fucking taking me, Laurie.

They're taking me up their ship and experimenting on me.

Yeah, that's definitely-- What are you doing?

- Oh, God. - Oh, come on, give me that.

It's the only explanation, Laurie.

- Give me the bottle. - Do you see the lights?

- Calm down. - I can't understand.

No, I don't.

[mouse clicking]

Fucking Paul.

[chair scrapes]

(annoyed sigh)

What the hell do you want?

Well--

- Paul? - Yes?

You have my brother's camera.

Drew's camera, yeah, I've got it.

Yeah, I'm gonna need it back.

Uh, why don't you come on inside and I will get it for you.

You know, I'm fine staying right here.

Thanks.

Yeah, whatever.

(grumble of digust)

[clomping footsteps]

[camera beeps]

[screen beeps]

[Do you remember Kim Zidanic from high school?]

[I don't remember Kim Zidanic.]

[I nailed her in the truck senior year]

[Wha--]

[abruptly snaps camera shut]

[exhausted sigh]

Hey, Hon.

Did I wake you?

Um, no, I'm--

Listen, I have to--

I have to stay here a little bit longer, okay?

I don't know.

Yeah.

No, I'm here. Look, it's, um--

Jason, uh--

You know, Dad wasn't exactly the easiest person to live with.

I mean, you met him.

Nothing Drew ever did was good enough.

No, I know. I--Believe me, I want to be home, too.

Uh, I already called them.

They're just gonna send me assignments as they pop up.

I'll do them here.

What? No. No, Jason, it's not like that.

I mean, I just figured you were asleep and--

Okay, well--

Can--

Can we not argue right now, please?

Okay, fine.

I'll just--I'll call you later, and I'll let you know what we're doing.

Yeah, thanks for being understanding. Love you too, bye.

[tinks coffee cup]

Drew.

I need you to get up, Drew.

(Drew grunts) I know, I know. Come on.

(groggy) All right.

Here, have some coffee.

You'll feel better.

(grumble)

Will you at least hold it?

- Hey, I'm sorry about last night. - It's okay.

No, it's not, Laurie.

Look, I know your flight's in a couple days,

but I can take you to the airport in a little bit,

so you don't have to deal with me anymore.

Hey, don't-- you're not taking me to the airport, okay?

Look, I need to show you something.

I synced it all up.

Got it?

- Mm-hmm. - Careful.

(long grumble)

The video from Paul's cam?

Yeah.

[Hottest girl you ever nailed. Go.]

[Hottest girl I ever nailed?]

[Mm-hmm.]

[Your mom.]

[Ah, ha ha! So fucking funny. I forgot to laugh.]

[Well, if you're on such a damn--]

[Kim Zidanic.]

[Do you remember Kim Zidanic from high school?]

[I don't remember Kim Zidanic.]

[Nailed her in the truck senior year.]

[Wha--]

It's okay.

(whispering) Oh, no.

[Nailed her in the truck senior year after prom.]

[Are you talking about--]

You okay?

Drew, are you okay?

I've already changed my flight home.

Drew?

(retches)

Half of these signs fit me. The others sound like just pure bullshit.

I mean, do you remember anything?

Like, a bad dream or something?

I don't remember anything.

I just, uh--It's like a black spot in my mind.

I remember going to sleep,

and then waking up in my sleep paralysis,

and then just in between nothing.

What about hypnosis?

(scoffs) Out of the question.

Why?

I'm not gonna go to some guy who's gonna tell me

that I'm obsessed with dicks and in love with my mother.

Okay, well, I suggested a hypnotist, not Freud's ghost.

I'm not going, it's final.

Okay, okay. Just a thought.

How about an AA meeting?

Eh, that's funny, Laurie.

Look, I know I got a little carried away last night,

but I'm not an alcoholic.

Nope. Abductee anonymous.

- Are you serious? - (chuckles) Yeah.

They have those?

I mean, apparently not many, but there's one in Portland on Wednesday.

Ah.

Just gives me just enough time to prepare.

I don't know what that means.

You're gonna find out.

Great.

Your smile unnerves me.

Hey, whoa, whoa, personal bubble.

Woooo. (Laughs) Look.

- What? - The hat. It's a spy cam.

That is the dumbest idea you have ever had.

If they find out you have a camera, they're gonna punch you in the dick.

They're not gonna find out, and I have to have this stuff on tape,

so I think it's a genius idea.

Mm-hmm. Whatever.

It's a bad idea.

- What's the worst that could happen?

That's my brother.

Hey, hey, hey, hey. Look at me.

You got this, man. You got this.

You know what? You don't have to wait here, all right?

You can go home, you can get some food, you can relax.

Yeah, no chance. I'm gonna stay right here

so that when they discover your little hat guy, we can make a fast getaway.

They're not gonna discover it. I told you that.

I'm gonna call you when I'm done.

Okay. I'll be here.

Have fun.

- Wish me good luck. - Good luck.

I want to formally welcome a new member to the group.

Drew, please, stand up. Introduce yourself.

(quietly) Huh, yeah.

Okay. Um...

Uh, hi, I'm Drew from Gresham.

(murmured welcoming) Hey, Drew.

Um, thank you.

I guess, I guess I'm just here, uh,

primarily so I can get a better understanding

of just, ah, you know, what I'm going through.

Thank you.

Is there anything you want to talk about?

Um... (clicks tongue)

Uh...

I don't really, uh...

I don't really quite feel ready yet.

Hey, that's all right, Drew.

We don't judge here.

Opening up takes time.

We're ready when you're ready.

All right. Thank you.

Would anybody like to share?

I could share.

My name's Grace.

I don't know what you can describe it as, other than, like, a shadow creature.

And it-it--it was reaching towards me,

I don't know, alien. I think it's a demon,

but I was by myself. It was late at night,

and this thing just, like, appeared in my car in the backseat, and...

[phone vibrating]

Hey, hon.

Yeah, no, it's just, um...

I've been a little hectic, you know?

I was visited by the Orions again last night.

Let me tell you, they made revelation after revelation.

Stuff. Family...

stuff.

(exhales)

So, I'd been on the ship before, of course,

but I'd never been in this room.

And they started talking about what mankind was,

and what my place in all of it was.

And they said that they needed all of us for their arrival.

And then they told me that I'd been selected

to be their voice for their message on Earth.

I don't know if I'm ready for that, but--

- Wait, what? - What?

(scoffs)

What, you like the Messiah? Is that what you're trying to tell us?

Look, Drew. If you don't mind, I'm just trying to tell my story.

Well, this is false.

Actually, you've just been spewing this crap up for t..

It's not a story. You're an attention whore.

- Drew. - Excuse me?

You heard me.

You're just only here for everybody to listen to y..

- Piece of shit. - Drew.

- What? - We're not here to judge.

No, no, he came here to mock us.

I'm not an mocking anybody, all right?

You know, it's people like you that make us all look like loons

because you have these crazy little chosen-one-flying-saucer sex stories to tell.

Enough!

It's true.

Drew,

I don't know what you expected this to be,

but we are here to support each other.

Not every experience is traumatic.

Roger's story is not uncommon amongst us.

What we've all experienced is real,

and you need to accept that.

Now...

I don't know what just came over you,

but I don't want to lose you from the group.

Please, take a moment,

settle down,

and when you come back,

I want you to apologize to Roger.

Roger, we've all been where Drew's at.

I remember when you started coming to group,

it took you a while to open up as well.

We are stronger together,

and we can't forget that.

You're right.

(authoritative exhale)

(clicks tongue)

Fuck, you kidding?

[door slams open]

Damn it Drew, fuck got into you?

It's pure bullshit, blond Nordic chicks?

Abducting you to spread your seed for the good of all humanity?

[angry roar]

You shouldn't be spreading your seed, period.

You need them, Andrew.

[through the wall] You need them.

[muffled ranting]

So just go back in there. Gotta go back in there and just apologize.

If they say anything remotely ridiculous,

just keep your mouth shut.

I'm sorry, Roger. I'm sorry.

Sorry, Roger. Sorry. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry, Roger.

- I'm Sorry. - Who are you talking to out there?

I wasn't talking to--

I heard you.

Roger, let's just calm down.

We all heard it.

I was just talking to--

Oh, so you were talking to somebody.

No, I wasn't. I wasn't talking to anybody.

Who are you working with?

- The CIA? The men in black? - No!

- No, I'm not working for anyone. - Them?

I'm not working with anybody.

Just tell us, goddamn it.

[punch] (Drew yelps)

I'm not going to go quietly.

Damn, Roger.

Drew, just leave!

Just go. We can't help you here.

No, I'm sorry.

You don't get to talk about my brother.

I'm not leaving here until I know he's okay.

What am I supp--

Yeah, well, of course you would say that.

You've never actually--

Jesus.

I told you that was a bad idea. What is--

(dazed laughter)

Come on, get up. Let's go. Come on.

Hey, your elephant is ringing. Your ele--

(Drew groans) They didn't see the camera.

I called the-- Yeah, I called the guy a fraud.

- What? - I called the guy a fraud,

and he thought I was working for the Men in Black.

- What the fuck is wrong with you? - Yeah, Roger!

- Get in the car. (Drew retches)

Oh, geez.

Drew, you're going to the hospital. You have a concussion.

All right, all right.

- Get in. - Okay

This is not happening.

This isn't happening.

Ah, I hear your elephant.

Drew, shut up.

- Your ele-- - Shut up.

Okay.

How's your head, Mr. Freeman?

It hurts.

Hmmm, you've got a mild concussion.

Nothing some rest and extra strength pain reliever can't help.

I'm going to send you home with some information about what to expect as you heal,

and some warning signs.

If the symptoms get worse, anytime within the next 48 hours, come back.

We'll make sure it's nothing more serious.

So that's it? We can go?

Well, there was something else.

What do you mean something else?

I need to know. Were you ever in a hunting accident?

Or maybe shot by a BB gun?

No, I've never even been done hunting.

What's this about?

I found an unknown foreign mass beh..

You see this little tiny spot here? (Drew gasps)

Looks like a tiny ball bearing, one you might find in a BB gun

or even a shotgun shell.

I don't see it being hazerdous--

I want it out.

Like I said, I don't see it causing a problem.

No, I want it out now.

I can't do it now, Mr. Freeman.

It's not a complicated procedure,

but it is surgery and I'd have to put you under.

Let me give your chart to the coordinator and we can have her schedule you a time.

Thank you.

(gasp of disbelief)

Isn't it funny the way things worked out?

If I hadn't gotten in that fight,

I would have never known those grays put an implant in me.

Come on, let's go.

Hey, Laur.

How's a spontaneous trip to Cleveland, sound?

I think I just lost my appetite.

Why would anyone want to go to Cleveland?

Well, it just so happens,

it's the hometown of Clyde Peterson.

Who's an expert of everything extraterrestrial, especially abductions,

and he agreed to meet with us tomorrow.

You didn't learn your lesson from the AA meeting?

Wouldn't call that a screaming success.

Look, this is different, okay?

This guy's not some fraud screaming of crazy accusations.

Besides, he only agreed to meet with us after I offered to pay him for his time.

Oh, great. So he's a fraud looking for cash.

Yeah, count me out.

Laur.

I found him, alright?

You know that I really need you with me on this.

You taking the funny hat cam with you?

You might wanna clean the blood off first.

Actually, I'm bringing the purse cam this time.

It's going to be much less conspicuous.

[amused humph]

Laur, please.

Fine. But you are taking me to Rock Hall,

and we're having dinner at the lake afterwards.

A list of demands, really?

Hey, if you're forcing me to go to Cleveland,

I want to smell the sweat off Elvis' cape.

That's such a weird thing to say.

You're a weird thing to say.

You said you wanted to smell Elvis' sweat.

Yeah, it's an expression.

You're an expression.

You're an expression of joy, you're my sister.

- And I love you. - I love you too.

Thank you.

[plane engines roaring]

You know, you probably should have gotten that thing taken out

of your head before coming here.

You could have brought it to your expert.

Well, I didn't really think of that.

Look, I got the DVD and a copy of the X-Ray.

We can always come back after I get it taken out.

Great. We, like, I've already agreed to doing that.

What's wrong with you?

You've been so snippy with me ever si..

Look, I'm the victim here. You treat me like it's all my fault.

[abrupt knocking]

Jesus.

May I help you?

Clyde Peterson, uh,

Andrew Freeman this is my sister, Laurie.

You're late.

Yeah, I had a little bit of trouble finding your house, so...

Yeah. Well, come inside.

I don't much appreciate people camping out in front of my place.

Yeah.

Oh, this is gonna be fun.

Alright, let's go.

I'm not entirely sure why you even bothered to fly up here, Drew.

You already seem to know everything I'm telling you.

I just, I was hoping for some answers. Uh...

I need someone to helped me find out why they're taking me,

or actually get them on camera.

You can't film them.

There's gotta be a way.

(Clyde scoffs)

You'd think that after 60 years of abduction rep..

and millions of people being taken, someone would have filmed one by now.

Drew, the problem is, they screw up electrical equipment.

If you've ever seen clips online of a gray staring at someone through a window,

it's a bunch of bullshit.

They know the camera's on them.

They don't want to be filmed.

[Laurie's phone buzzes]

Sorry.

What about the flying saucer footage?

Nobody's really sure how it works entirely

but we think it has something to do with proximity.

The Greys seem to carry their disruptor equipment on them personally.

They only take out the cameras that would be in the line of sight for them.

So, they didn't even bother to scramble the footage from outside?

They don't care if their crafts get caught.

Your footage looks fake.

Everything about it screams "bad CGI."

You know, the little things that would make us believe it's real are insignificant,

to the signs pointing to it being a hoax.

And when someone is a skeptic, which...

most people are,

it'll take a lot more than the tiny reflection of the light on a car's ho..

They know that.

And therefore, they'd rather turn the population into non-believers

from campy looking footage,

rather than worry about every possible camera that might be pointed at their craft.

All they care about is not ending up on film.

Now, that's apparently a big no-no for them.

And ironically,

the more advanced the camera, the better they are at scrambling it.

What about a film camera?

Yeah, I mean, like an old film camera would be primitive to their disruptor equipment,

and therefore be more effective.

It wouldn't work.

- Why not? - Yeah?

Who's gonna man the camera?

Family members have never seen an abduction happen

because they're either asleep or in a paralysis state.

You experienced that firsthand.

Your alarm went off for an hour and you slept through it entirely.

Nobody's caught them yet. They're not about to slip up now.

I just want them to leave me alone.

Yeah, well, tough titty kid. It ain't gonna happen.

They know where you are at all times

and they always know. You can't hide from them.

Even after I get this chip taken out?

That is a very bad idea.

What do you mean?

You got 'em all over your website.

Look, take it from me.

The last thing you want to do is have your implant tak..

Why?

Why shouldn't I have it taken out?

Because they'll know.

You can't fool them. You can't get away from them.

You can't make them stop, ever.

They will keep taking you.

And when they find out, you had your implant taken out.

Well, let's just say,

they have a very sick sense of humor.

What?

What are they going to do?

Is that a camera?

Answer the question. Is that a camera?

Hey!

You have that implant taken out, you'll never have a normal life!

[car roars away]

Shit!

- You're such an asshole! - I'm an asshole?

Yeah, I didn't want to come and you made me.

I didn't want to bring this stupid purse and you insisted.

Oh, I knew that was going to happen.

- I'm sorry. - Oh, you're still an asshole.

I'm still sorry.

Make it up to me now.

Rock Hall, let's go. I'm not going to be cheap.

All right. Sweaty Elvis, here we come.

Hey, are you sure you want to go ahead with the surgery after what he said?

Clyde's a nut.

Well, he seemed to know his stuff.

I mean, everything we've researched and then some.

Exactly.

We'd be better off talking to ourselves in the mirror.

He's full of shit. Blatantly conning me?

I mean, no way leaving this thing in my head is going to make anything better.

Seriously. We flew all the way out here for nothing.

Wow, that's a 180. You picked him.

He's not a fraud, Laurie. Trust me.

That's how con men work. Read a book.

I think you're being an idiot.

I think you don't like what he said, and so now he's trying to screw you over.

Look, it's been in my head for 20 years.

All right. I think my opinion is the only one that really matters here.

You pulled me into this shit, okay?

My life is finally starting to come together.

A good job, a good guy.

You know, none of that matters when it comes to Drew's problems.

You know what? Fuck your opinion.

[door slams]

[phone alarm buzzes]

[screeching static]

[phone alarm continues]

[screeching static continues]

Why won't you leave me alone? (Sobbing)

Why won't you leave me alone?

- Hey, what? - It won't stop.

Come here, come here. (Drew sobs incoherently)

It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay.

[TV volume plays low]

[phone vibrates]

Hey, hold on, hold on.

Hey.

Wait. Wait, what?

Hold on.

I'll be right back.

Shit.

Seriously, Jason?

Okay, well,

what about working it out? What about planning to--

[Laurie through door] I can't believe you're doing this right now.

I'm not picking sides!

Jason, he's my brother.

And I know you're an only child and you don't understand how that works,

but you do know what it's like to care about someone, right,

and to be there for them?

I'm mad because I'm pissed off.

Of course I'm pissed off.

You're breaking up with me. I'm not even..

I'm--you're breaking up with me over the fucking phone.

I'm the only family he has left.

Okay, he's the only family I have left.

I don't understand why you don't get it.

Oh, my God. You're giving me an ultimatum?

You are such a selfish fucking prick.

Jason?

Jason?

(whispering) This isn't happening.

(whispering) This is not happening.

Laur?

Drew, please go away.

He was a jerk anyway.

Why are you doing this?

I'm supposed to be home. I'm supposed to be marrying Jason,

but I am here babysitting your ass.

My life is falling apart.

(quietly) Shit.

(sobbing)

[chair scrapes on floor]

I'm sorry about last night.

This is not your fault.

Do you think I'm crazy?

This whole thing is insane, but...

No.

You are not.

Sorry about Jason.

Come on.

It's fucking Sunday.

Let's get some fucking brunch.

Mimosas do sound fucking amazing.

Mm-hmm.

[camera beeps]

All right.

[Laurie through door] Drew! Come on!

You've been in there half an hour.

Yeah, this is it. I promise. Hold on.

All right.

That's good.

Okay.

All right, go ahead. Open it.

Wait, wait, wait. Wait, wait.

Hold on. One second.

- Jesus! - All right, hold on. One sec.

Auto cam, test seven.

All right, open it!

- Now? - Go!

[first camera clicks] (laughing)

[second camera clicks] Whoo!

[third camera clicks] Yeah!

I told you it would work. I told you it would work.

Okay, can I go now?

And that's how you build an unmanned camera.

How do you like that, Clyde?

How do you like that?

[camera beeps off]

[camera beeps on]

All right.

(restless exhale)

[camera beeps off]

- Hey. [Knocking]

You have impeccable timing.

When you've been doing this as long as I have,

you kinda know when someone's gonna wake up.

Andrew, how are you feeling?

Groggy.

That's going to wear off fairly soon.

Well, you said you wanted to keep it.

This is it.

Yeah, not much to look at.

Looks like an ordinary steel shot. Just slightly pitted.

Other than that, there's nothing special about it.

Humph, we'll have his discharge papers out front.

Just remember to keep an eye on your skin behind your ear.

If it gets sore or tender at all, get back here immediately.

The last thing you want is for it to get infected.

Hey, how do you really feel?

They're not gonna hear me think anymore.

I did it, Laur.

I beat 'em.

Hey, I'm gonna go get the paperwork done.

I'll be back in like 10 minutes. Okay?

I don't know why you brought that thing back with you.

Oh, it doesn't matter if it's in me or not.

They know where I live.

So what's the point of getting it taken out?

To get it out of my head.

Voice recorder.

I heard ghost hunters use these to catch voices.

I don't know if it's gonna work for me but it's worth a shot, so...

Yeah, I think that's gonna work.

[camera beep]

[light static]

[hideous screeching static]

(phone vibrates)

Ow, fuck.

(exhausted sigh)

(pouting grumble)

[footsteps]

[Drew's door opening]

Drew?

[footsteps]

Drew?

[footsteps up the stairs]

[Laurie confused] Drew?

[hurried footsteps upstairs]

[Laurie concerned] Drew?

[hurried footsteps upstairs]

[Laurie's frantic call outside] Drew?

[upstairs door slams shut]

[jogging footsteps upstairs]

[foosteps tromping down the stairs]

Fuck.

(out of breath)

Shit.

(sniffs)

(heavy breathing)

(sniffs)

[911 Operator] 911, what is your emergency?

(stammering) Um, my brother is missing.

Ma'am, slow down. Ah, where are you, ma'am?

{stammering} I'm at my house. And he--

Okay, ma'am, I'm listening, are you safe?

(sniffs) Yeah, I'm fine, but my brother is not here. So--

Alright, please calm down, ma'am.

Please calm down. When was the last time you saw your brother.

Uh, just before we went to bed. I mean...

Was he under the influence of drugs or alcohol tonight?

No--no! (Choking gasps)

Please, I need you to help me, and I need you to help me now!

Ma'am, I need to understand the situation.

You woke up and your brother was missing.

Yes, my brother is missing, he's not in the house,

and I need you to help me!

Ma'am, calm down. I can't help you like this.

You need to calm down.

Have there been any threats against his life?

Or has there been any suspicious activity at his place of residence?

(small sob of futility)

(whispering) I just need you to help me, please.

[911 Operator] Uh, ma'am, I understand.

But, unfortunately it doesn't sound like you have an emergency.

It just sounds like your brother isn't in the house.

(Laurie sobs as the 911 Operator's voice fades away)

Okay.

Yeah, I'll do that.

[slams phone down] (cries)

How do you file a police report for a fucking alien abduction?

Oh, God.

[light static]

[soft footsteps]

[intense music plays over dialogue]

[ambulance siren fades in]

[intense music continues over dialogue]

[ambulance siren fades out]

[light static]

[phone buzzes]

Hello?

Yes?

Oh, my God.

I'll be right there.

(waiting room chatter) [elevator beeps]

Um, Andrew Richard Freeman? He was brought in this morning?

- [Nurse Johnson] Are you a relative? - Yeah, I'm his sister.

- Room 289, around the corner. - Thank you.

[machines beeping]

Oh, my God. Drew?

He's sleeping. You're gonna wake him up.

- Drew? - [Nurse Cindy] Just wait outside.

I'll send for the doctor. He can assist you.

Shit.

Miss Freeman?

Oh, yeah. I'm Laurie.

Would you accompany me to my office, please?

Uh, of course, yeah.

Miss Freeman,

your brother was brought in early this morning.

He was found about 20 miles out of town, fully naked, leaning against a tree.

But to quell some of your concerns, Miss Freeman,

uh, your brother's test results came back negative for drugs or alcohol.

And we found no signs of abuse or injuries consistent with being attacked.

But he was in a delusional incoherent state when he was brought in.

I don't know what to make of this.

If you look here, there appears to be a foreign mass of metal origin.

Lodged in the center of his head, directly above his hypothalamus.

Do you have any idea what it could be from?

It's um, B.B. Gun? Uh, a childhood accident?

Well, it doesn't seem to be affecting your brother.

It's not putting any pressure on any parts of his brain, nor does it seem likely to.

It's incredibly strange, but, uh, completely harmless.

Um, can I take him home now?

Well, not just yet, Miss Freeman.

We still have a few more tests that we'd like to run,

and the officer who found him will be back to ask him some questions tomorrow.

Uh, according to the nurses and the officer who found him,

he kept babbling, saying, "They took me."

Do you have any idea who "they" might be?

No.

I'm sure that he'll probably be ready to be released tomorrow afternoon around 3.

Okay.

(Dr. Allen clears throat)

Miss Freeman,

I'd like to recommend psychiatric counseling for Andrew.

Okay.

Talk to Drew when I get home.

Thanks, Doctor.

[intense static]

[dull ringing starts up]

How's Mr. Freeman?

Cindy, how's Mr. Freeman?

[dull ringing starts up]

[static returns]

[metal clanging] (Drew hysterical in patient room)

(Drew sobbing hysterically)

They keep taking me! (terrified, incoherent rambling)

Help him! Get the-

Security!

Why are you here?

(sobbing quiets down)

[seatbelt clicks]

You want to talk about it?

No...

Well, I'm here for you. You know that, right?

If you want to talk about it, just let me know.

- I want to go home. - Okay.

Hey, I'm hungry. Want to get something to eat?

(inaudible mumble)

Come on, Drew.

I know you weren't eating that hospital food.

Okay.

Hey, why don't we go to the fall festival tomorrow?

Remember, we used to go every year?

Pick out a pumpkin.

C'mon.

I'll buy you a pickle on a stick.

[car engine slows]

[seatbelt unlatches] [car beeps]

Drew, can you please talk to me?

[front door clatters open and closed]

[car door slams shut]

[front door clatters open and closed]

You know you really should try to eat something.

(mumbling) I'm not hungry.

Yeah, they never came back on, I tried to fix them.

I never came back to the house. So why would they fix them?

Why would they do that?

Maybe because I had the inmplant taken out.

Maybe because I set the up still cameras.

Yeah, sick sense of humor.

The film cameras!

Did you get them developed?

Laurie, if you have them, I want to see them.

You have them?

(tiny gasp of disbelief)

(faintly) Drew?

Freshen you up?

I need to go fix the cameras. [Stumbles]

(slight slurring) I need to go fix the cameras.

[ghastly static screeching blares loudly through speakers]

(barely audible through static) Drew!

Drew! Turn it off!

Please, Drew!

Turn it off!

[static screeching cuts off]

Please do not make me listen to that.

[drunk] Laur, I'm sorry. I'm goin' over evidence.

[static screeching resumes lightly through headphones]

[footsteps approach up the stairs]

Hey, Drew, you want to go get a pumpkin?

Mmm.

I want to see a hypnotist.

Are you sure?

I don't have a choice, you know.

I need to know what the black spots in my mind are.

- So... - Okay, I'll go with you.

But can we get out of here tonight?

Go to the festival, get a pumpkin.

- Yeah. - Yeah?

Yeah. Yeah, that's fine.

- Okay. - Okay.

- I'm gonna go get my coat. - Okay.

[Dr. Grant] So the sleep paralysis has been happening since high school?

Yeah.

Just been more frequent lately. (Draws sharp breath)

Just wanna know what's going on.

Maybe a dream or something that's causing it.

And that's the only reason you're here, sleep paralysis.

Yeah.

What else could it be? I looked it up.

That's all it is.

You know, it helps if you tell me everything that's going on.

Hypnosis is tricky.

If you're hiding something, it tells your subconscious mind to block it out.

Especially if it's traumatic.

If you don't disclose everything to me,

there's no point in going under.

Drew, you can tell her.

That's why we're here.

I'm being abducted by aliens.

And you're certain that this is what's going on?

- Yes. - I don't disbelieve you, Drew.

Sorry, doctor. We're just a bit on edge right now.

We have footage of the craft from outside.

Camera malfunctions, photographs for proof.

I'm a skeptic, but trust me, that is exactly what's happening.

Well, I have to tell you both. This is not really my area of expertise.

Now, I'm going to refer you to a colleague of mine

that specializes in alien abductions.

He'll be back in town next week.

No, no, no. You don't understand. I need to get this over with now.

Look, please. I can't eat. I can't sleep.

Hell, I can hardly even think anymore.

Okay, Drew. Okay.

So, (clears throat)

which occurrence in particular do you wish to focus on?

Uh, The last occurrence.

It was, uh, October 14th.

2:56 a.m., was the worst.

Close your eyes.

And I want you to focus on the very tip of your scalp.

Feel your scalp.

Feel how every hair follicle is connected

and how the muscles and skin are connected.

(Dr. Grant's voice fading) As you focus on it, your scalp completely relaxes.

(Dr. Grant's dreamlike voice) You have now entered a state of total relaxation.

(Dr. Grant's wispy, far-away voice) Your entire body is floating.

If you feel threatened, embrace the sensation,

and it will take you out of harm's way.

Now, I want you to go back to the early morning of October 14th.

Start at 2:55 a.m. precisely.

- What are you doing? - I'm asleep.

And how are you feeling?

Relaxed.

Peaceful.

And why are you peaceful?

The buzzing's gone.

Describe the buzzing.

Like a bee in your head.

And how long have you had it?

Since it was 14.

And now it is gone.

Completely.

Good.

It is now 2:56 a.m.

Has anything changed?

(quiet whisper) No

Okay, I want you to move forward slowly through the seconds.

It's back? The buzzing is back.

It just came back now?

Mm-hmm, it's louder than before.

Describe it.

Falling into my bed.

It's like it's swallowing me up.

I'm trying to fight it, but I don't want it to smother me.

What happens next, Drew?

(gasps) The door?

The door... I hear it turning in the lock.

I'm trying to move, but everything keeps--everything's heavy now.

I feel so heavy.

I feel so heavy, I'm trying to move--the door.

The door's opening.

I can hear the door opening, but I'm still asleep.

It's okay, Drew. You are safe.

No. I hear it, please.

(choking sobs)

I can move. I'm awake, I can move.

I can move.

I'm trying to get away.

I'm trying to get away.

There's somebody in the doorway. I'm trying to get away.

Oh, God, there's somebody in the doorway.

- What's in your doorway? - I don't want to look.

Drew, Look in the doorway.

I don't want to look. Please don't..

Andrew, look in the doorway.

(horrified screaming drowned out by high pitched ringing)

(muffled, distant) You are floating.

(drowned out by high pitched ringing) [Dr. [Grant] You are coming out of hypnosis.

(Dr Grant barely audible) ...two, one.

[claps hands] (Dr. Grant) You are--

[Deep roar of the abyss]

Andrew, you are safe right now.

I know.

Do you remember anything?

I want to go.

Andrew, do you remember anything?

I'm tired. I want to go.

Drew wants to go home.

Thank you for your help.

[car engine roars to a stop]

All right.

Uh, go ahead inside. I have a few things I need to do.

What are you--where are you going? No, come on. I'll help you.

No, you've done enough. You've done all you can.

I really need to help myself right now.

Just, thank you for coming today.

Everything's gonna be better from now on, all right? I promise.

Go on. I'll be right back. It's fine.

Well, just call me if you need me.

- Yeah. - Okay.

I love you. [Car roars away]

(soft exhaused sobs)

The buzzing's back.

Oh, the buzzing's back.

They put something else inside me.

Like an animal tag.

(exhales)

All right, Clyde.

I should've listened to Clyde.

The buzzing never ends.

Never ends. It drowns everything out.

All of my feelings, all my thoughts.

I can't be happy, not even for a second.

I can't even fake a smile.

(exhales)

I know what they do to me up there.

Yeah.

They take pieces of me.

(futile growl)

Pieces from here.

Pieces from here.

They put things back.

(exhales)

Tell me things.

Tell me to do things.

Things I don't want to do.

But I'm not gonna let them have me anymore.

No.

(maddening chuckles)

I can't. I won't.

(angry inhale)

This is my life. This is my life! My mind!

I'm gonna show them. They don't control me.

They don't control me.

They don't control me.

(knocking) Drew?

You open up?

Hey, you're not sleeping in here tonight.

Or tomorrow night. Or the next night.

Okay, I'm not letting them take you again. You're all I have left.

We'll just, we'll stay up in the living room and watch movies

and eat popcorn like we were little.

(chuckles)

Okay.

Come on.

(door closes)

[Clarence! Clarence!]

[Help me, Clarence!]

[Get me back!]

[Get me back! I don't care what happens to me!]

[Get me back to my wife and kids!]

[Help me, Clarence! Please!]

[Please!]

[I wanna live again! I wanna live again!]

[scrambling footsteps]

[burst of static]

[burst of static]

[footsteps clomp down stairs]

No! No!

[Hey, George!]

[gunshot]

[George!]

[You all right?]

[TV continues in the background]

Fuck.

Drew?

[TV echoes from upstairs and fades]

Drew?

(shocked sobs)

No!

No!

No!

(wracking sobs)

On October 19th at 3:43 a.m.

my brother Andrew Freeman attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head.

He didn't succeed.

He's in a vegetative state.

And Drew's will says that if this ever happened to him

that he'd want to be let go.

But they won't let me do it.

He sits up once a week, screaming.

They're still taking him.

He's gone.

There's no more Drew.

Oh God.

I hear the buzzing now.

(sniffs)

I've woke up three times paralyzed and unable to move.

And I know what's happening.

They're not getting what they want from Drew, so they're coming after me.

This--It doesn't stop.

But I'm getting out of Gresham, and I'm not coming back.

I don't wanna-I don't wanna know what they're doing to me.

I want to put it in a little box in the back of my head

and just forget about it.

I'm sorry.

Drew, I can't,

I can't stay here with you.

I can't see you hooked up

knowing that you're suffering, knowing what they're doing to you, and--

I'm sending all the evidence to a specialist, someone who believes.

Maybe...

maybe it'll help.

Maybe it'll help others understand what's going on.

It's happening to them.

Maybe what you went through isn't for nothing.

I'm going to miss you, Drew.
