Hello! I'm Rin Takanashi.
I'm in my 20s, and I used to work as a caregiver,
but I've taken up acupuncture as of late.
My hobbies include playing TRPGs and camping.
More specifically, the type of solo camping where I can catch, cook, and eat my own food.
I've loved it ever since I was a kid!
Going out like this on a rare day off
and posting up with a fishing pole in the great outdoors is when I'm happiest!
I got a bite!
Come to me, little fishie!
H-heavy...!
It's a big one!
Hyaaaaah!
I... I fished up a handsome guy!
That said... I'm kind of in a pickle 'cause...
I'm in one of those fantasy worlds...
The sweet fattiness and saltiness blend together perfectly on my tongue,
filling my mouth with flavor... and leaving the faintest aroma in my nose!
So goooood!
Great for fishing, great for eating!
The milk trout gets an A+!
Would you like some?
I'd appreciate it!
There's plenty more where that came from.
Oh, thanks-
Here.
What...?!
It washed away the oil and salt, creating a pleasant, refreshing sensation!
That is to say, this is... well, fantastic!
Right?
Personally, I'm a highball or a chuhai kind of girl, but barley tea pairs well, too!
It's like a reset for the taste buds. Makes you feel like you can keep going, right?
Yeah, like I can enjoy the flavors all over again!
Looks like we're running low on skewers.
Time to grill some more!
On you go!
Oooh, I can't wait!
Allow me to thank you once more.
The name's Vil. I'm an adventurer in the town of Elrage.
An adventurer?!
Oh, um... My name is Rin.
You're a lifesaver, Rin.
Aw, that's very kind of you!
So, uh, how'd you end up in the lake anyway?
Well, instead of traveling with my party, I took on a solo quest this time around.
I let my guard down while I was bathing, and a monster made off with my belongings.
I recovered my equipment just fine, but it gobbled up all my food...
I was so hungry that I got a tad bit careless... I fell into the river and got washed away.
And you know the rest.
I'm surprised you made it out unscathed...
Ah, as you can see, I'm a draghoul.
We have a reputation for being very sturdy.
Though we're not exactly known for having small appetites...
Well, still. At least you weren't hurt or anything!
Not to sound ungrateful for your help, but... shouldn't you be a little more wary of me?
Huh?
Rescuing a strange man like me, treating him to a meal while you're defenseless?
Your sense of self-preservation could use some work.
Yeah, normally you might be right.
But my skill isn't setting off any alarm bells. Plus, you seem like a good person, Vil!
A good person? We only just met.
How could you possibly know that?
I mean, 'cause of you.
It'll drain his body heat if I leave him in these wet clothes...
I'd better go get something to dry him off.
Wet... clothes...
Reehn, fowrye...
Whoa! Th-the stains on my clothes are gone?!
And they're totally dry?!
Was that magic-
Thank you... for saving me...
That's how it went down. You showed concern for me, and you made sure to thank me.
Which is why I knew you weren't some scary bad guy.
That's it?
Yup, that's it.
All that stuff aside, Vil... you used magic, right?!
I-it was just some everyday magic. What's so exciting about that?
Oh, I'm from another world, so I'm interested in anything and everything related to magic!
...What?
Um... are you familiar with the "Saintess Summoning"?
That's how I made my way to this world, as what you might call a foreigner.
The Saintess Summoning?
I heard an old folk tale about that when I was a kid. If I remember right...
"A saintess called upon from another world shall purge the monsters,
and peace shall prevail across the land."
Sounds like the typical story.
In my case...
I was on a camping trip back in my world when I suddenly fell into a strange hole.
When I came to, I was in a secret chamber in a royal palace, the kind you see in fantasy games.
Next to me was a pretty high school girl who I think got summoned at the same time.
This prince-looking guy knelt down and called her the "Blessed Saintess."
He took one look at me and said, "Your skill is worthless! You're trash!"
Then, this kid wearing a sorcerer robe thingy chanted some strange words,
and this magic circle underneath me started to glow really bright!
The next thing I knew, I had been dumped here at Lake Lear... or so it would seem.
After that, I decided to test out the skills that I manifested while solo camping, and here I am.
That would be involuntary teleportation magic.
Ripping you away from your home only to banish you without a second thought...
Bastards!
On the bright side, I got to meet you, Vil. And I was able to save you 'cause of it.
Still, I suppose it makes sense given that you're from a different world.
This equipment of yours... I've never seen any materials or craftsmanship like it.
Wow, of course an adventurer would notice!
More importantly, are you okay, Rin?
Being taken to another world out of the blue...
I would imagine you're distraught and miss your homeland.
I knew you were a good person, Vil.
One of the skills I manifested is called "Survival."
With it, I'm able to adapt both mentally and physically
to withstand any environment or conditions.
It teaches me the things I don't know about this world and lets me know if I'm safe!
If I had to guess, that's probably why I'm pretty calm despite the situation.
That's amazing! As an adventurer, I'd kill for something like that!
I don't understand how they could call it a worthless skill.
Well, it's convenient, but you gotta admit that it's not very flashy.
Oh, but my other skill is a lot more unique-
I'm so sorry for my inefficient stomach...
We chatted for quite a while. It's the perfect time to make some dinner!
R-Rin... You can cook?!
Well, as much as the next person.
Now then... If I'm going to cook, I suppose I can't keep it hidden forever.
And I know I can trust you, Vil, so...
Ride settings authorized.
This is my other skill:
Campy the camper van!
Huh...?!
R-Rin... What is that?
Sorry if I startled you.
My special skill is designed so that
no one except the user can perceive it unless they've received authorization.
Wow...
This little guy is what's known in my world as a camper van.
You can fit a whole bunch of stuff in it, sleep in it, or ride in it to get around!
Get around...? Wait, this box moves?!
Well, let's save that part for later.
For now, why don't you hop on in?
O-okay...
What?!
Same reaction I had when I first saw it.
It seems to utilize some sort of spatial magic.
So it can store as much stuff as you want!
Incredible!
Over here is the kitchen.
And this is the fridge!
It's alarming that the selection is exactly the same as what's in my fridge back home...
But I'm grateful, so fine by me!
It reminds me of a treasure vault in a castle!
And by the way, the contents are replenished automatically after use,
so you can go nuts with it!
How in the world is that possible?!
Um... by converting energy particles in the atmosphere called "mana," I think.
As long as the mana doesn't run out, neither does this!
The world is brimming with mana. It's an infinite resource...
Speaking of which, the taps produce magic water made from mana, so I'll always have potable water.
Plus wastewater and messes are turned back into mana, which eliminates the need to clean!
And they called this skill worthless?
It's a high-capacity storage facility with on-demand access,
and assuming that mana is available, it's also an unlimited-use supply cache...
In a worse-case scenario, you could single-handedly support an entire army!
Ah, I'm not big on war...
Didn't think so. In fact, it's probably a good thing they deemed your skill worthless.
Right?
I'm willing to bet they didn't catch on 'cause my camper van can only be used outdoors.
Well, then!
Time to start making arrangements for dinner.
Vil, you hang out and relax, okay?
Oh, I can't sit around while you do all the work. I'll check the area for anything dangerous.
Did I make him uncomfortable...?
Alright, I'd better put some elbow grease into this one!
That takes care of that! Now I just-
Rin!
Looks like we're clear of dangerous monsters for the time being.
Thanks for doing that, Vil!
I just finished getting set up for dinner!
Here, al-miraj meat. It's for you.
Al-miraj...?
If I remember correctly, it's a one-horned rabbit-like monster...
Those things taste good?
I-I really appreciate it!
Of course. It's the least I can do to repay you.
What a cute smile!
I'm sold!
Rin?
Oh, it's nothing! Well, should we have dinner?
Y-you made this, Rin?!
Sure did!
And you're okay with me eating it?
I'd be more upset if you didn't eat it.
Go on, have a seat!
Thank you for blessing me with this daily bread.
Thanks for the meal.
Yum!
The subtle sweetness of the rice and milk trout fills my whole mouth!
And now for our next contender...
It's delicious, too! The warm, succulent meat practically melts on my tongue!
The carpaccio is also good!
It doesn't taste fishy at all, and the flavor pairs great with the olive oil!
Though I wish I could've let it rest overnight...
What's the matter, Vil?
Is it not to your liking?
I had no idea eating such a delectable meal outdoors was even possible!
I-I mean, I did tweak it a little, but it's just an ordinary risotto...
Rin... Please forgive me, but...
May I have seconds?
Of course! Eat as much as you like.
Were you a chef in your world?
Nah, I just liked cooking.
The grilled fish you made this afternoon was great, too.
Okay, but all I did was stick it on the grill.
There are people out there who have a hard time doing even that much.
T-true...
What's your plan from here on out?
"Plan" is a strong word. Hm...
Since I don't know how to get back home, I think I'll make the most out of my time here.
Luckily, it looks like I've got my basic necessities covered!
That's all fine and dandy, but you need money and identification papers to get into town.
G-good point... I don't have this world's currency, or an ID... or a job!
What do I do?!
I wonder if they have caregiver jobs here, too...
Ah, but what if-
Rin!
What?!
If you're up to the task, would you cook for our party and be our porter?!
...Huh?
Whenever anyone in our party attempts to cook food, myself included,
the results are nothing short of disasterous!
For us adventurers, food is our only source of joy in between quests!
Food makes a huge difference to a party's morale!
Close! Too close!
If looks could kill, I'd be dead!
We'll compensate you fairly, of course!
And you'll have job security!
There are both men and women in our party, so you don't have to worry about that, either!
Obviously I can't promise there won't be any danger,
but everyone will protect you and support your livelihood!
Whoa, Vil! Take it easy, okay?
Or at least, that's the pretense. I do mean every word, it's just...
Above all else...
Vil...?
A kind savior came to this strange adventurer's rescue, and I'd like to return the favor.
Oh my god, he's hot!
He practically made me melt!
Two moons...
Guess I really am in another world.
Meeting Vil in a world where I don't know anything or anyone? Maybe it was fate...
I'd like to take you up on your offer from yesterday.
Don't know how good I'll be, but your party can leave their supplies and their stomachs to me!
That's great news! The pleasure's all mine!
In that case, let's head for the town of Elrage right away.
I need to introduce you to my fellow party members.
Uh, before that, y'mind if we make a detour?
I found the nicest wild parsley yesterday, so I was hoping to pick some before we leave.
You... eat grass?
Not as a main dish, of course. As an accent to spice things up.
In fact, I used it last night on the risotto and carpaccio.
By the way, despite looking exactly the same, this wild parsley is poisonous.
Pick the wrong one and you could die!
I can't tell the difference at all...
That's why you should be careful. I can tell 'cause of my skill.
I knew your skill was anything but trash. You're the envy of adventurers everywhere!
That reminds me. What are the other members of your party like, Vil?
We're a party of four known as "Smorgasbord," and I'm our tank.
First, there's our alchemist mage and magic specalist named Ed.
An alchemist?!
Our scout, Aria, is an arachne who can manipulate webs at her will.
An arachne?!
She's also Ed's wife.
Lastly, there's Xenon, an elven priest.
An elf?! A woodland maiden?!
I can't wait to meet all of them!
Aria in particular has a big appetite like I do, so I'm sure you'll be friends in no time.
Also, Xenon's a guy.
Ah, good to know. As a fan of TRPGs, I've always thought elves were cool...
My Survival skill just kicked in!
Those are yummy and safe to eat!
W-wait, Rin!
Huh?
Giant crows...?
They're monsters?!
But shouldn't Survival–?
No, not how it works. The skill itself won't protect me!
I'm dead!
Rin!
Are you okay, Rin?
T-totally fine!
Th-thank you so much!
I'm sorry! I put too much faith in my skill even though I don't know anything about this world!
Don't sweat it! From now on, your fellow party members have your back!
That bright smile! It's blinding!
Please stop! If you keep it up, I'm bound to lose my composure!
Oh! Look, Rin.
Item drops.
What's that?
When you defeat monsters, they drop resources like this. There's meat, too!
Ah, so that's what that was yesterday...
I really don't know the first thing about this world, do I?
Alrighty then! Should we hit the road and head for Elrage?
R-Rin...
You're seriously telling me this box moves...?
You know what they say: The proof is in the pudding!
Now let's go, Campy!
Unbelievable!
A carriage can't hold a candle to this level of speed and comfort!
At this rate, I bet it won't even take us three hours to get to Elrage!
It was three days on foot, right?
What's wrong?
Remember how I mentioned that Campy has a masking function?
I'm worried about what might happen if I accidentally hit a person or a monster...
We are likely to encounter more adventurers and merchants as we get closer to town...
Then how about we pass through the mountains instead?
The road's a little rough, but we'll probably reach Elrage faster since it's a straight shot.
Oh! Taking a shortcut and keeping a low profile? Sounds like a plan to me!
It barely even shakes on these mountain roads!
Nope. Campy's built for performance!
Your skill is something else entirely, Rin. Keep it a secret wherever possible.
Yeah, you're right. Survival is one thing, but Campy's completely-
Whoa!
What's wrong?!
Sorry, Vil! Survival's trying to warn me about something!
A bear?!
That's a firebear! Monsters like them aren't supposed to be in this area!
That bear meat will be mine!
Oh yeah, it shoots fire. I forgot.
You bastard!
How dare you hurt my darling Aria?!
Aria's web, you mean.
I swear, you always go overboard when it comes to her...
Aria?! Ed?! Xenon?!
Huh? Wait, so those three are...?
My friends, the members of Smorgasbord.
You stay here, Rin.
Okay! But-
What, you think me and my crew can't handle a little monster like that?
Vil...!
Go get 'em, Vil!
Can't find what you're looking for?
