[Dramatic music playing]
[Lincoln groaning]
[Emily] Do you want me to come in there with you?
[Lincoln] My bones really hurt.
Oh, my god.
[Emily] Control your breathing.
You're okay.
You're gonna breathe through it.
[Lincoln] I feel so bad.
[Dramatic music playing]
[Man] There's nothing easy about this.
We got hail.
My heart's racing.
[Emily] You don't fight, you won't make it.
Why is it so hard?
[Man] What the hell?
[Woman] This is terrifying.
[Suspenseful music playing]
[Michael] Deep in the heart of Texas
lies the ancient land of lost Springs.
This brutal landscape of rugged granite hills
and prickly nopal cactus
was once inhabited by native American tribes
who relied on the Colorado river to survive here.
[Emily] The Apache and then the Comanche,
they were here a long time ago
and they were able to use this land, so we can too.
[Michael] Today, lost Springs has been reclaimed
by aggressive wild hogs and 200-pound mountain lions
that will fight to the death to protect their territory.
And hidden in the brush are deadly rattlesnakes
and ground-dwelling tarantulas
whose bite can cause excruciating pain.
[Suspenseful music playing]
[Lincoln] It looks like a bone yard.
I'm most nervous about rattlesnakes
because they can take you out of this challenge instantly.
[Michael] The survivalists enter the challenge
after days of heavy rain
have left the terrain muddy and wet.
Sudden torrential rainstorms and 30-mile per hour winds
are common in lost Springs,
bringing with them flash floods and mud slides.
And in an instant, the hypothermic temperatures
can give way to scorching 90-degree heat
that can make dehydration a major threat.
[Lincoln] This is gonna be the most challenging
three weeks ever.
I'm a little bit nervous,
but more excited nervous than nervous nervous.
I'm Lincoln, I'm a designer, and I'm from Maine.
Some people might look at me and not think
that I'm a survivalist or adventurist,
but I've done some pretty badass things.
I've run three marathons, I've been skydiving.
[Screams]
I'm just game to anything
that can get my body to its extreme.
I'm down.
I have gone to and been a counselor
at an outdoor technology-free summer camp
where I've honed my survival skills
and plant identification.
These are wild nasturtium.
Shelter building. And also fire building.
Fire there.
I don't have an empty Gauge.
My meter is constantly full.
When I was 12, I was involved in a car crash
and I got a traumatic brain injury.
I needed to relearn how to walk and talk.
Ever since then, I really gained
an appreciation for life.
Because I know that tomorrow's not guaranteed,
but today is and I really apply that to my life
and I try to live my life to the fullest
I can possibly live in.
I really want to do this because I'm only 23
and if I can do this,
then anything else will be child's play
for the next hundred years of my life.
I am excited to tear my clothes off.
[Michael] Lincoln brings an upbeat
and positive attitude, but his youth
and carefree nature puts him at risk
of potentially reckless behavior.
His primitive survival rating or PSR starts at 6.0.
[Lincoln] Oh, my gosh. I am so excited.
So excited.
[Emily] Doesn't look like the friendliest environment.
It's very hot. A lot of cacti.
It's a lot to take in.
My name is Emily.
I'm from Cameron, Missouri.
And I'm an archeologist for the national park service.
Being an archeologist has really gotten me
learning about the best ways to survive in the outdoors.
So I think it's really prepared me
for something like this.
I grew up camping.
I've lived out in the woods.
I love primitive survival skills
because what we call primitive survival skills
are things that cultures depended on
for decades and centuries to survive in the past.
I'm confident in my skillset.
I grew up building a lot of shelters out in the woods.
So I know how to make eight-frame shelters,
teepees, lean-tos.
I would say this could be a little bit
of a rebellious phase.
It's kind of a, "hey, suck it,"
type of thing to people who have said,
"oh, women weren't made for the wilderness.
Women weren't made for outdoor work,"
and that's not true.
There's more than just bubbly attitude
to female archeologists.
We are serious. We do know what we're doing.
And we have survival skills
based on the research we've done our entire life.
[Michael] Emily's experience as an archeologist
has taught her primitive skills and knowledge
of how to survive in the wilderness.
But her academic approach could clash
with Lincoln's more free-spirited style.
She starts with a PSR of 6.4.
[Emily] I'm as prepared as I can be.
I'm definitely scared,
but I think that a little bit of fear
keeps you cautious in a situation like this,
so that's all right.
This is it.
Let's [bleep] go.
[Dramatic music playing]
[Lincoln] In anticipation of meeting my partner,
I showered, put on lots of deodorant, Cologne,
I had breath mints.
There's so much behind first impressions.
I might not be the same on day 21
but right now, I smell great.
Here it goes.
Whoo!
Nature, you just got a new best friend.
[Dramatic music playing]
- Hello. - Hi.
[Lincoln] Oh my gosh.
- Lincoln. - Emily.
- [Lincoln] Nice to meet you. - Nice to meet you.
- Is it weird? - I mean, yeah.
- It is what it is, I guess. - The breeze is nice.
I was gonna say... I know.
- Are you excited? - [Lincoln] I am juiced.
- This is gonna be... - [Emily] Juiced.
- That's a good word. - [Lincoln] Yeah,
it's my favorite.
Tell me a fun fact about you.
[Emily] I am an archeologist.
- [Lincoln] Amazing. - Fun fact about you.
I'm hoping to move to New Zealand.
It's the greatest country on earth.
I've never been but I’m... I'm sure it's great.
They have hobbits, so I mean, we're set.
[Emily] Lincoln is very excited.
I know at some point I'll probably be like,
"oh my god," but also, like,
you need that to keep going.
[Lincoln] Wanna go look at our bags, see what we got?
[Emily] Yeah, let's do it.
[Michael] Lincoln and Emily have each brought
a personal survival item.
I have a fire starter.
I have my trusty knife.
- [Emily] Oh, that's awesome. - Yeah.
[Michael] They've also been given a pot
to boil water as the extreme changes in weather
can accelerate dehydration.
- A map. - [Lincoln] Oh.
Let's check it out.
- Okay. - Where do you think we are?
[Emily] I'm gonna guess
- maybe in here. - [Lincoln] Yup.
And we definitely wanna be near water.
[Emily] Yeah, oh, for sure.
We don't wanna run into a wild hog.
We don't wanna do that or mountain lions.
[Emily] Or rattlesnakes.
Gosh, dangers everywhere.
I think we just got to head downhill to the water.
- Let's start heading that way. - [Emily] Sounds great.
- Ready? - Yeah, let's go.
[Emily] All right, let's do it.
[Suspenseful music playing]
[Emily] Watch out for those little bitty cacti.
[Lincoln] Immediately, we are in this underbrush
with thorns and cactus and just stuff everywhere.
Quite a few things that wanna scratch you.
[Emily] Pretty much everything out here,
cactus, all that kind of wants to stab you.
There's a little bit more pain walking
than I was expecting.
So definitely feeling that.
Oh, here's some... okay.
Here's some good...
This maybe technically an artifact.
See the dips where it is there?
- [Lincoln] Yeah. - [Emily] They could be pot
litting which is from heat,
but this actually looks like a scraper
that would have been used
for like scraping hides or something.
- Perfect. - So let's reuse that.
- Yeah. Awesome. - That's perfect.
[Lincoln] Emily's an archaeologist.
And as we were coming in,
she was picking up all these stones
and telling me about them and how we can use them
which is gonna be really beneficial
to our long-term success.
And I think we're gonna make a great team.
[Emily] Oh, that's a lot of sun.
[Lincoln] Yes, there is.
[Emily] It's very hot.
It's gonna get hotter.
It's definitely gonna be necessary
to find water and try not to get heat exhaustion.
[Lincoln] Oh, gosh.
A lot of scat going on.
[Emily] That could be a predator of some kind.
[Lincoln] Hog, mountain lion, anything.
[Emily] Yeah.
[Ominous music playing]
[Lincoln] Looks like it's opening up a little bit.
- [Emily] Awesome. - [Lincoln] That's good.
[Emily] Oh, there's a drop-off here.
That could mean water.
[Lincoln] That is a good point.
[Emily] Let's do it. You wanna go first?
Let's do it.
This feels kind of wet but... Whoa!
Oh, my gosh.
It's slippery.
[Emily] Oh my gosh.
Right where you pulled yourself up
is that point on that rock.
Holy [bleep].
[Lincoln] Very slippery.
[Emily] Do you hear that?
[Lincoln] Oh. Water.
[Emily] Water.
[Lincoln] We made it.
So we got to set up for camp there.
- [Emily] Where the shade is? - [Lincoln] Yeah.
There's a shade right there.
[Emily] And it's... This ground is nice.
[Lincoln] Oh, perfect.
There's a little path to the river.
I like it.
[Lincoln] One of us should work on making a fire.
Who's gonna get water?
[Emily] I'm going to get water.
[Lincoln] We're really dehydrated
because we just hiked again
and we were sweating like crazy that whole time.
Getting the fire going to boil the water
is our top priority.
[Emily] I'm gonna try to go out here just a little bit.
Moving water has less bacteria
because it hasn't been sitting stagnant.
Okay.
[Lincoln] Hey, we got a little bit of fire
- going here. - [Emily] Nice job.
[Lincoln] Come here, help me out.
I need some more stuff.
- [Emily] Grass? - [Lincoln] Yup.
Keep on adding.
More straw.
Oh, a lot of smoke. That's good.
I'm crying from both joy and from smoke.
- [Emily] Nice. - [Lincoln] This is pretty exciting.
Now, I know what the caveman felt like.
[Ominous music playing]
- There you go. - [Lincoln] Thank you.
[Emily] Okay. So you wanna do shelter?
[Lincoln] Let's build a shelter.
Timber.
Emily's taking the lead on the shelter.
We're gonna put a pole across and lean sticks like that.
[Emily] Our goal is to just get something livable
by the end of the day.
Sturdy-ish. We'll get there.
- [Lincoln] We're doing great. - [Emily] We definitely need
to waterproof it at some point.
- That's gonna be a priority. - [Lincoln] Yup.
[Dramatic music playing]
- Okay. - All right. This is it.
Welcome to the shelter for the first time.
[Emily] All right. Fire's burning out.
We finished our water.
It was tasty.
I'm kind of tired. I hope I can sleep.
- Goodnight. - [Emily] Good night.
[Suspenseful music playing]
[Animal groans]
[Lincoln speaking]
[Emily speaking]
[Lincoln speaking]
[Emily] It's definitely big.
It was some kind of mountain lion or something.
Get out of here.
[Emily speaking]
Get.
Get out.
Get out.
[Lincoln speaking]
[Emily] Get. Get out.
[Lincoln] What the hell?
[Emily] It's right behind you.
- Get. - [Lincoln] Whoa.
[Ominous music playing]
[Emily] Get.
Get out.
Get out.
[Lincoln speaking]
[Emily] All right. We're standing out here
trying to build our fire up a little bit
because something is losing [bleep]
My mind out here.
Get. Get out.
Hopefully yelling just heard it enough.
- [Lincoln speaking] - [Emily speaking]
[Dramatic music playing]
[Lincoln] Last night, our first night
in the shelter, there was no sleep to be had.
We were pretty scared.
And we definitely need to work
on a more steadfast shelter
so that no animals will wanna come near us.
And to help keep the heat in
because it was pretty cold as well.
[Emily] Late morning, sometime it started raining.
Not only do we not want our fire to go out,
but we don't want to be wet ourselves.
There's nothing worse than being in the cold
in the rain with no fire.
[Thunder roars]
[Emily] I hope that doesn't mean a storm is coming.
[Suspenseful music playing]
[Emily] Rain's picking up.
So I need you to start breaking off leaving branches.
- That might... - Got it.
- Right. - [Emily] ...Be beneficial.
[Lincoln] We'll figure it out.
Emily and I worked really well together as a team,
but not sure whether I'm letting her boss me around.
Go chop that, go do this, go do that,
seemed a little bit harsh for me.
[Emily] I wish Lincoln would contribute more
because you have to be able to depend on the partner
to get stuff done.
So it was a little frustrating.
I'm weaving branches with leaves into our shelter,
just trying to get as best coverage as I can
for waterproofing and then we're gonna come back
over the top of it with cedar branches
because they're a really good insulator.
[Lincoln] This is looking amazing.
[Ominous music playing]
[Lincoln groaning]
[Emily] It's so cold.
It's just too much.
So we are freezing and it's not even that late,
but we're here in for a long night.
[Rain pattering]
[Emily] It's raining... It's raining now.
[Lincoln] I went out.
We're cold and wet
and we're just trying to stay huddle up
as best we can and hope that the sunrise
will bring some sort of respite.
Oh, [bleep].
[Emily] So cold.
[Lincoln] Oh, [bleep].
[Ominous music playing]
[Lincoln groaning]
[Emily] Last night was rough.
There were several downpours and we're both cold
and, you know, Lincoln is just literally
convulsively shivering and I think he's panicking.
- [Lincoln groaning] - [Emily] You're okay.
Just breath, control your breathing.
- Come, come against... - Against you?
Yup. [Groaning]
Oh, my... [Emily] Breath, remember why you're here.
[Lincoln] I'm so cold.
[Emily] Try to relax your muscles
as much as you can because your tensing up
and that what's causing the cramps, okay?
- Okay. - [Emily] You're okay.
Breathe through it.
Breathe through it.
You're just gonna have to move.
Hey, bud.
[Lincoln] Oh, my god.
[Emily] You're okay.
It's scary.
I know it's really hard
when you're in that state of mind of I can't move.
I'm so cold.
I can't do anything.
So I understand why he's struggling.
You do not wanna lose.
[Lincoln groans]
[Emily] You got it, Lincoln.
You got this.
[Lincoln] This is the coldest I've ever been.
I feel so bad.
[Emily] Keep moving.
[Dramatic music playing]
How are you feeling?
Better.
[Emily] He's able to get his breathing under control,
settled down.
He just really needed to, kind of,
collect himself, calm himself down.
I feel for him because I was also shivering
and freezing, so I get it.
[Lincoln] That was a pretty scary feeling.
I was panicking.
I couldn't stop shivering, my bones felt frozen,
luckily enough Emily helped me stay calm and...
Because I didn't know what to do.
I was just in a crazy panic.
You got this.
[Lincoln] I have to put this behind me
and move forward.
[Dramatic music playing]
[Lincoln] Half of my [Indistinct] bulletproof.
[Emily] We should make a teepee
so we can keep the fire inside of it.
We already have all the materials so...
[Emily] Yeah, we just need some wide logs for the top.
- Yeah. - All right.
[Lincoln] This is our third shelter in three days.
This one it's gonna have fire in the middle,
which is gonna keep us warm and keep our fire dry
so we can keep the fire going all the time.
[Emily] We got to get it done today.
[Lincoln] Yeah.
[Michael] The structure will be insulated
by weaving cedar branches around the frame,
a small opening at the top
will allow the smoke from the fire to escape.
[Lincoln] We need to hurry up.
[Emily] We're getting there.
I'm feeling super, super dehydrated.
I'm definitely concerned about tonight.
If we don't have fire, we can't boil water,
we can't warm our shelter up
if it continues to be cold and rainy.
The only water that I did have yesterday
was that quarter half a cup of rainwater.
So it's been basically two days since I had water.
I'm used to having six liters a day.
Oh, my god, I'm so cold.
[Lincoln] Yeah. We are not gonna get a fire tonight.
[Lincoln groaning]
[Emily] [Indistinct] [Bleep].
[Lincoln] Yeah. It is.
[Emily] We really need a fire.
[Sparking]
[Emily] Ow.
Oh, it's wet.
My hair is dry.
We can light some of it.
[Lincoln groans]
[Emily] All right. There's one giant chunk of hair.
[Lincoln] I appreciate your dedication, you're insane.
[Emily] No, I'm cold.
I can't feel my feet. It's freezing.
Come on, why?
I don't know how we get through this night.
[Lincoln groaning]
[Ominous music playing]
[Emily] Last night was brutal.
I cut my hair to start a fire.
It still didn't work. So, that was disappointing.
I'm sure my hair looks great right now.
I'm so thirsty.
How is it going in there?
Nope, the wood's too wet.
This won't light.
Let's put this out to dry and go explore.
[Ominous music playing]
[Lincoln] There is a huge fish.
[Emily] Oh, [bleep], it's probably carp.
It keeps coming up out of the water.
I wish I could just jump down there
- and grab him. - [Lincoln] There it is.
It's popped up between the two rocks again.
It's just hanging out there.
[Emily] We're gonna have to figure something out
if we're catching him.
[Suspenseful music playing]
[Emily] I'm so thirsty and so cold.
[Animal growling]
[Lincoln whispering] Emily, quiet.
It's big.
Do you see it?
Oh, [bleep].
[Lincoln] There's three, four, five.
They're walking towards us, you see them?
[Emily] Oh, yeah. [Bleep].
[Lincoln] There's so many.
[Emily] Be careful.
Oh, they're going the other way.
[Lincoln] What are you thinking?
[Emily] I'm gonna try to set a snare right here.
- Definitely make cordage. - [Lincoln] Yeah.
[Emily] If we could find yucca.
Let's get back and make fire.
[Lincoln] Great.
[Dramatic music playing]
I really just wanna get the fire started.
It's the biggest thing right now.
I'm not feeling great, need water.
I'm feeling super dehydrated, like lightheaded, dizzy.
[Lincoln] Go lie down.
It's too cold.
I'm just gonna tell you now if we don't get fire,
I don't know if I can stay tonight.
And I don't want dehydration
to be the thing that takes me out.
[Lincoln] That's not good.
What do you need? What do you need?
A fire.
[Lincoln] Fire? Okay.
- Yeah. - Okay.
I'm gonna try to carve some magnesium
- and start it up. - Okay.
[Lincoln] When I was struggling Emily helped me a lot.
She kept on reminding me to remember
why I was here and that it'll be okay.
So it is my duty to really help get the fire going today
and get the water boiled.
I just have to keep running this challenge.
Oh, oh.
[Emily] Oh [bleep]
- Do it again. - [Lincoln] Yup.
[Emily] Let me get some water. I'm not gonna assist you.
I'm so dizzy and lightheaded.
It's unreal.
[Lincoln] What the heck.
- Oh, look at that. - Yes.
[Emily] When I saw the flame I was so excited.
It's a pretty big deal.
I was super thankful that he was able to do that.
I'm really glad that he got it.
[Lincoln] Here you go.
[Emily] I'm so thirsty.
[Lincoln] That's gonna be the best water
that we've ever had.
[Crows cawing]
First water in two days.
It's still super-hot, but I don't care.
[Lincoln] I was worried about Emily today,
but I knew that we would get it done.
I realized more and more that supporting each other
in this challenge is so important.
Oh, that's so nice.
[Lincoln] We're in our shelter.
We have a fire.
Yeah, everything about this is great.
[Emily] Ready to actually sleep tonight.
[Birds chirping]
[Emily] I'm definitely happy we have fire,
it kept us warm.
So I feel... I feel pretty good.
I definitely slept at least a few hours.
But right now we need food.
[Lincoln] I'm gonna go out there with a spear.
I have it sharpened up and I'm gonna try
to stab big fish because we're starving.
- [Emily] Do you fish a lot? - [Lincoln] I do not.
[Emily] You got to be super slow,
you can't splash in the water.
- [Lincoln] Yeah. - Patience is key.
Awesome.
[Intense music playing]
[Lincoln] Fish everywhere here.
Did you see that?
[Emily] You'll get there, just be patient.
[Lincoln] I'm really good at that.
[Emily] Yeah.
Okay.
I'm gonna go look for yucca.
Yeah, Lincoln is not patient.
He kind of wants to get everything done right now
and that... And that's...
It's just not gonna happen out here.
So I'm not necessarily a patient person,
but I'd rather do it right the first time
and take longer than do it bad.
[Dramatic music playing]
[Emily] The yucca is extremely awesome.
There's so many uses for it.
So many different things you can do.
It would be a huge game changer to have that.
Oh, there's a huge one up here.
This is good.
This is very good.
Yucca is really good for creating cordage
so for fishing line or fishing net
you can use the leaves in their full form,
cut them down, dry out the fibers, and weave with it.
Okay.
[Dramatic music playing]
- [Lincoln] How's fishing? - [Lincoln] Nothing.
[Emily] We have a yucca.
[Lincoln] Wow.
You are the best ever.
[Emily] I'm gonna make some cordage...
- Okay. - To make a snare and a fishing net for us.
I've studied a lot of tribes who use this plant
for pretty much anything
that you would need a rope for.
Scrape it a little bit
and then you're left with these fibers
that you can weave with.
It's not gonna be done for a while.
I don't know that it will be done today.
[Lincoln] That's perfectly okay.
[Dramatic music playing]
[Lincoln] So this morning I could really, really feel
my mind body needing food.
My entire body just seems heavier
where I usually have energy I don't.
[Emily] I made a snare out of yucca fibers.
I made them into cordage.
This is a hoop that's connected up to a bent tree
and the tree is tied down to two sticks
that are just resting on each other
and when one is knocked it will snap up
and the snare will pull tight.
Hopefully, next day or two we can get a pig.
That's it.
[Dramatic music playing]
[Emily] My fingers hurt.
I'm currently making a fishing net.
It's a y-shaped stick and then you weave yucca fibers
or the cordage that you make back and forth.
It's not a dip net. It's a flat net
so that you can kind of get something out of the water
and pin it against a rock or something.
[Intense music playing]
[Lincoln] Fishing when you disturb the water
the fish scare away.
So you have to wait a little bit
for them to come back.
It's definitely a waiting game.
I'm definitely getting more patient
as I stay out here longer.
A huge fish.
Oh, got it.
Oh, it [bleep] get away. Oh my god.
Definitely the closest
I've gotten ever getting a fish, really frustrating,
but we're gonna keep on trying.
How's it going?
Fishing net is done.
[Lincoln] That's gonna catch all the fish.
[Emily] I'm very excited things gonna work.
Thank you.
Ready for tomorrow.
[Intense music playing]
[Emily] All right. I'm headed down.
[Lincoln] Best of luck today.
[Emily] They're just impossible to see
if they go more than a couple inches underwater.
We just got to wait until they become used to you.
I can see a fish from where am right now.
Ouch.
Oh, maybe I should just full send myself
onto this fish.
[Bleep] It got away.
The rock is so hard to get a tight seal on the net
because the rocks are so jagged and spread out.
I don't think the net is gonna be effective.
They can just slip between?
[Emily] There's just too many ways
for him to get away.
- We learned, yeah. - [Emily] Yeah.
For sure.
[Dramatic music playing]
So it's still there.
I'm just tired, I'm exhausted.
Hoping that something will come through and snap it,
and we'll get some kind of animal, raccoon, possum,
it doesn't really matter at this point,
anything is food.
[Intense music playing]
[Bleep]
[Bleep]
[Intense music playing]
[Bleep]
There's a tarantula.
I know they're edible.
I have to get something to stab it with.
[Michael] Along with their painful bite,
tarantulas have venomous barbed hairs
that can cause intense swelling
that can last for weeks.
[Emily] It's crawling under the wood.
It's stabbed on his body.
Great.
It looks gross but edible.
Lincoln,
there's a tarantula that we can eat.
Really?
- [Emily] Yes. - That's so cool.
Stabbed the little [Bleep] head.
[Lincoln] Amazing.
Oh.
[Emily] I'm so excited.
How long do you think you roast this thing for?
[Emily] Oh, I guess until the hair is gone.
I've never eaten a tarantula before
so I'm actually really excited to eat it.
[Emily] Okay. Well, I think mine's done.
Well, the meat looks a little roasted.
[Emily] This is gonna have to be, like,
all at once type of thing.
- Yup. - Cheers.
Yo, that is good.
It actually isn't that bad.
That one meal right there is more than what we have
combined this whole time.
So it was really nice.
[Lincoln] It's really good.
Probably there wasn't very many calories
but it's great to have a little something
to keep us going
until hopefully we do get a bigger meal.
Are you ready? I'm gonna do the spider dance
that's gonna attract all the spiders.
[Emily] That's gonna be hard to blur.
To keep a blur in one spot for that.
I think Lincoln has more energy than I do.
I'm not totally sure how.
[Lincoln] I'm sorry if there's like 18 tarantulas now,
sorry, that's my fault but I mean,
they can't really resist that dance. So... Okay.
[Crow cawing]
Right now I'm just worried about [indistinct].
[Emily] Every time I stand up, I feel dizzy.
I'm really hoping we can catch something
because I feel [bleep].
[Lincoln] Hey, think about all we've accomplished,
from day 2, we gained so much.
So much knowledge and skill.
[Emily] You're such an optimist.
I'm such a realist.
[Intense music playing]
[Emily] Fish would be a game changer for us right now.
I can see the little [bleep] out there.
I just can't seem to catch it.
There's a deer antler.
Today in the rocks I found a deer antler.
Antlers have been used by native Americans
as points for weapons for a really, really long time,
definitely hoping to sharpen it up some
and stab a fish much easier.
[Lincoln] We could change that spear's shape, you know,
make it a trident or something.
[Emily] Yeah. Sharpen it
and use it as a new fish stabber.
Instead of just giving up,
we're just gonna solve [Bleep] together.
Perfect.
[Emily] We've got nice points,
if you wanna work on putting them back on the spear.
[Lincoln] Okay.
Emily sharpened the bones and I tied it to the spear
so we had three prongs on it, kind of a trident.
I'm gonna go fishing.
[Emily] You got this man.
Stab all the way through as hard as you can.
Will do.
I believe in him, he got this.
Like at this point, it's either we get food
or I'm probably not gonna be able to do extraction day.
[Lincoln] I think we're both getting a little down
and it's only gonna get worse as time goes on.
Learned a lot about stealth
and being quiet, and silent,
get in my position, all that stuff.
I'm just gonna try as hard
as I possibly can to catch a fish.
I'm gonna go until I can't go anymore.
Oh my god.
Okay.
There's a fish.
You have to check every rock
to make sure you're not gonna jostle it
because of the noises, like,
at the bottom of the river, the fish hear the most.
Oh.
Oh.
- [Lincoln] Dance time. - [Emily] Oh, god.
[Lincoln] So to wake up my feet in the morning,
I had to do a dance sometimes.
[Emily] Do you need a beat?
Yeah.
[Beatboxing]
Oh, woo.
[Emily] Nice dance move.
[Lincoln] It needs a little work.
Well we'll see how we're doing later in the day.
I think he's starting to lose his mind.
Woo.
[Intense music playing]
[Lincoln] Oh.
A... Fish.
I heard Lincoln yell fish.
[Lincoln] Got a fish.
[Emily] Did you stab it?
[Lincoln] Oh, stabbed it and then it got away
so I jumped on the rocks, grabbed.
I'm so proud of you.
[Lincoln] Look at this thing.
[Emily] That's a huge carp.
[Lincoln] That's like a feast.
I'm so proud of myself.
I think getting food is the huge part of survival.
It's so cool to be able to provide for Emily
and help us at least make extraction somewhat easier.
[Emily] Everything out here is a group effort.
Figuring out how to best make our weapons,
how to use them best.
I'm so proud of Lincoln.
This is definitely a huge win
because he really, really wanted
to get a fish with that spear
because it is such a difficult way of fishing
and so for him to catch a fish like this,
I'm really happy that it was him, really stoked.
[Lincoln] Oh my god, that looks so amazing.
That's a good piece of meat.
Cheers.
This is so freaking delicious.
I'm so happy.
[Emily] It taste really good.
This is a really big deal because we now have
three full days before extraction day
and having food like this, that's a huge win.
I'm glad we have this now.
It melts in your mouth.
It's definitely a good day to do nothing
but drink water.
So glad we both stayed through this whole thing.
[Emily] But let's think back to like day three and four,
like, thinking like,
"how am I gonna get through this?"
- [Lincoln] Yeah. - Now we're here.
Yeah. We still have to finish tomorrow.
- So... - [Emily] We can do it.
[Lincoln] We don't wanna count any checkouts.
No, I'm not, I’m...
I know extraction day is really hard.
[Dramatic music playing]
[Lincoln] In the shelter for our final night.
[Emily] It's crazy.
Craziness.
[Emily] I'm ready. I'm so ready.
We're both really ready.
[Emily] Yeah.
[Lincoln] We'll check it out.
Our extraction point, probably the cliff there.
- [Emily] I think we're camped somewhere around here. - [Lincoln] Right here, yeah.
[Emily] And we're gonna need to head up that ravine.
It looks like it could be fairly far.
[Lincoln] It's gonna be a long way
and it's gonna be a really difficult incline,
right along the edge of a cliff
but I know that there's no other option
aside from to get out of here now.
[Emily] All right. Are you ready?
Ready to go, let's do it.
[Michael] Lincoln and Emily must decent five miles
through mountain lion territory,
to the top of a 350 foot cliff
overtaken by cactus and dense brush.
The only way to their extraction point
will be walking another mile
along the edge of this sheer drought,
avoiding loose rocks, and rattlesnakes
whose pit sensors can detect warm-blooded mammals
up to three feet away.
[Emily] There we go. Up, up, up.
Oh.
[Lincoln] Damn, that's a lot of thorns.
[Emily] All right. Watch for snakes up here.
This is like snake city.
[Lincoln] And it's like dens and stuff.
[Emily] Yeah, oh, yeah.
Rattlesnakes are always a possibility.
Oh, ow, ow, ow, oh, god that hurt.
Watch out for the rock shatter, it's super sharp.
[Lincoln] Oh, just... ow, ooh.
[Emily] Yeah, there's some thorns
on the ground throughout here.
Just everywhere.
[Emily] Yeah, this sucks.
[Lincoln] Oh my gosh.
[Emily] This doesn't look fun.
We've got the inclined part over with
- but this is worse. - [Lincoln] Yeah.
[Emily] And we don't wanna get too close,
we're only like six inches from a death fall.
Don't step on this rock right here.
Don't trust it.
[Lincoln gasps]
- [Emily] Are you okay? - [Lincoln] Ooh, jeez.
Good thing the tree was there.
[Emily] Be careful.
[Lincoln] Jeez, ow, [bleep].
[Emily] My feet hurt so incredibly bad.
[Lincoln] This is brutal.
Oh, my god. I'm feeling the sun so much now.
[Emily] This is the hardest part by far.
[Lincoln] We're definitely getting there,
this pain's gonna... All gonna pay off.
[Emily] There's no way in hell
I'm gonna make it through 21 days
and then not be able to get out.
You go until you can't physically go anymore.
Oh.
- Vehicle. - Vehicle.
Woo.
It just came out of nowhere.
[Emily] Ready?
[Lincoln] Yeah.
[Emily] We're done.
[Lincoln] Let's go.
Oh, my god.
[Emily] Woo.
Yeah.
Woo.
[Emily] Woo.
Right here. Right here.
Oh, yeah.
We just completed naked and afraid.
Oh, my god.
Got our ass kicked but hey,
it's not how many times you fall down,
it's how many times you get up.
I came out here to prove to myself
that I could survive for 21 days
and the mental toughness that I gained
from recovering from my accident
definitely helped push me through this
and if I can do this, I can do anything.
This has without a doubt changed my life
and I couldn't have done it without Emily helping me out.
[Emily] I definitely think Lincoln has changed a lot.
Saw his goofy side but he's really kind of
come full circle as a survivalist.
I have proven that I'm capable far more than I thought.
This challenge definitely made me more confident
in myself and my abilities, my skills, my motivation.
I hope I proved to the world that I'm a badass.
We are certified badasses now.
[Michael] Over the course of 21 days,
Lincoln lost 37 pounds.
His PSR goes from 6.0 to 6.7.
Emily lost 26 pounds, her PSR rises from 6.4 to 7.1.
I'm tired and I'm worn out
but I'm super freaking excited that we made it,
like, after you finish something like this,
no one can take that away. It's so worth it.
Oh, my gosh. So worth it.
I'm very proud of both of us.
- Hell yeah. - [Lincoln] Oh.
[Both] Woo.
[Emily] See you later, Texas.
