[Terra] I'm hungry.
I have to find some [bleep] protein.
I have to have a full belly once.
Just once, I need a full belly.
Otherwise, I don't know how I'm gonna continue.
[Kaila] I've been trying really hard.
I definitely need food.
I definitely need food to make it till extraction.
[sighs]
[James] [sighs] Oh, boy. What a freeze.
I started lately losing feeling in my... in my toes
and my fingers.
[sighs] Oh, my gosh.
[Jamie] I'm tired, hungry.
I'm soaking wet.
[Jamie speaking]
Last night, was unreal.
It rained heavy.
The fire went out and I was freezing.
I'm still shivering.
I was going delusional.
I really think I was experiencing
the early stages of hypothermia.
I've been warming up
but I needed to get warmer.
This isn't healthy.
Oh.
It's gonna be extremely hard to get the fire going.
It's just soaking wet.
Oh, [bleep] holy [bleep] man.
Look at all these ants.
I'm trying to get a spark to this,
but I just feel like everything I try and do,
there's always a setback
and there's always something going wrong.
So there's only three days left,
and it just so happened
that the last couple of days has been the worst.
I could feel myself mentally checking out.
[sighs] There's no hope
for getting my fire going.
I'm trying everything in my body right now
just to not let go.
[Kaila] I'm starving.
You know, I haven't really been eating much at all.
And, of course, I threw up the snake.
So I definitely need some protein
to be able to make it to the end.
I think I might run back down and check my fish trap
and hopefully get more fish
and eat protein that way,
because I'm not succeeding with hunting with my bow.
No, nothing.
The fish are too small.
All the baits gone though. [sighs]
I mean, this fish basket
is meant for bigger fish,
but the problem is
all the fish in here are so small,
they just slide right through the cracks.
But I'm gonna just set it anyways just in case,
'cause you never know if you're gonna run
across something or not.
Bigger fish down here.
Definitely gonna have to make a smaller fish basket.
That way, it's nice and secure and tight,
and there's no way that these little tiny minnows
can sneak out of it.
You have to think of risk versus reward out here.
And getting bit by a fer-de-lance,
that would not be good.
You can die very quickly.
Well, that's a clear sign
to go back to the shelter.
This challenge taught me,
definitely not to go into things all headstrong.
And it's taught me what survival is,
you know, from the fire to the starvation
to the thirst to the this... To the...
I've been worn down to my core.
And what that tells me is I just need to learn more
and...
still never give up, never surrender.
[sighs] I gotta go get some water.
Out of breath.
It feels like I'm in a constant state
of exercise.
It feels like getting up or something
is like getting on a treadmill
and doing six miles.
I'm getting lightheaded from lack of nutrients
and lack of protein.
Every little protein
I can get, I guess I need to take.
So right now, I'm gonna collect some cactus.
I gotta eat something.
I was taught that when you're cooking cactus,
you burn off the heat.
Yeah, I might go and just fire-roast this one.
It's not what I wanted at this point in my challenge,
but, you know, you take what you can get.
I would say it has a mix between a cucumber
and heat, it's slimy.
It's got a tart flavor on most of it.
Not very good.
It's not something that I would just go
every day pick in my backyard and try to eat.
They usually give me
pretty bad indigestion at night.
Hoping that's not the case tonight.
[Kaila] Now what I'm gonna do is I'm going to make
a much smaller fish basket.
And that way,
hopefully I can just catch like a bunch of minnows.
And that'll still make a good meal.
I'll just boil them all up
and it'll be like a nice little pot of protein.
This one should be small enough to catch
the much smaller fish in here
'cause there really isn't any big one.
I'm just gonna crush up a bunch
of these snails for bait.
Figured if I made it a little bit smaller,
maybe I'd have a better chance
of catching all these little guys.
And it's nice and tight too,
so they can't really sneak out the sides.
Being mindful of snakes.
Hopefully, that one works better.
[bird caws]
[James] So far, I have found nothing
that I can get the advantage over those catfish.
Fish basket wasn't working.
Hook's not working.
These little fish I'm getting now,
yeah, it's good for a mental boost
but there's really not enough calories there.
So a good-sized catfish
could actually bring some of the energy back.
And there are definitely some big ones out there.
So now we'll chum for them
and take the fish heads,
crush them up, basically make a chum.
I'm gonna put them all in one area at one time,
and maybe the potency of four crushed-up fish heads
would be enough to draw their attention.
Yeah. It's the only way
I can think of getting those catfish.
Everything else has been failing.
So I'm gonna start throwing arrows at them.
I'm not giving up yet.
I'll keep trying till day 21.
They do sometimes get worked up
almost into like a feeding frenzy and there'll be two,
three, or four of them in one spot.
And it's at those times, I'm gonna watch for
and take a shot.
Wow.
Dang. Those fish are big.
Not as easy as you might think.
You're trying to keep your balance from falling in.
At the same time, you're trying to literally get
a tail from a fish to give you a clue where he's going.
Whoa.
There's one of those catfish.
Oh.
Nothing.
Dang. As much commotion as I created with that arrow,
I actually thought I got one.
You know, I just cannot get a break.
[sighs]
The water is so dark and so muddy,
you can't see them.
I really don't know if they're going left, right.
It's just blind shots.
They don't seem to be bothered by the fact
that I just shot in there and walked through there,
and they were acting like as if nothing had ever happened.
They were back to just swimming around.
Damn. There's some big fish in there.
My tummy is grumbling.
I'm hungry.
This is the hungriest I've been so far.
It's finally starting to cool down,
so I think I'm gonna go down and check my fish basket
and see if I caught anything.
Awesome.
So that's what I was hoping
is to be able to catch some of these smaller guys.
Yay.
I'm glad that I ended up making a smaller basket.
And I'm gonna take out my bigger one.
It caught something.
Crawfish.
I'll go boil him up and eat him.
I caught four little fish.
I got a little crawfish.
Definitely excited about this.
Tastes amazing.
And I'm just happy that I have a little bit of protein
that I'm not gonna throw up.
It's amazing how food
fuels our body and our brain.
Like I feel... I feel great
and I'm actually okay with being alone.
I was a little worried about it at first
but I'm doing okay right now.
I'm ready to get my 21 days.
[Jamie] Feeling a lot better from when I woke up.
I got a fire going.
I can actually get heat in me now.
Once this is over,
I do not need to come back here.
I will never, ever forget this challenge.
Now I've done... I've only done Africa
and I've experienced two days in Peru.
This has been the most hard-hitting one.
Mother Nature or just the force of the jungle
has grabbed me by the neck and pinned me up to the wall
and says, "Jamie, you need to [bleep] change yourself.
You need to look at yourself and [bleep] make changes.
And you need to [bleep] get this job done."
And then just threw me on the floor, spat on me.
That's what it feels like.
Especially being in this environment,
stripped of all my resources and dignity, in a way,
it's got me thinking that, you know,
things may need to change.
I need to stop taking things for granted,
especially family members.
When I get back home, it's gonna be like
starting a completely new life,
totally different to anything
that I've ever lived before.
Great. Let's go and check the fish trap.
I've had so many ups and downs
throughout this whole challenge.
As early as day three, I was feeling low.
Anxiety was getting the better of me.
And that's absolutely fine.
Everyone can go through stages like that.
But it's how we pull through them.
I can see the trap.
[bleep] There's something in it.
There's something in... Yeah.
Yeah. There's a wee catfish in there.
It's right here.
Nice.
Gonna be eating today.
Oh, look at that.
Lovely. That's a nice catfish.
Thank you very much, jungle.
I'm so happy for this right now.
I love catfish.
To get one this size, this means a lot.
Let's get this back to the camp,
cook it and eat it.
This is just adding to my energy levels for day 21.
This is, by far, the most fish
I've ever eaten on a challenge.
Yesterday, I could feel energy levels getting low.
It could have been a medical tap
but now that I'm eating some of this,
I'm feeling a lot better already.
That was amazing.
[Terra] Last night, I had a lot of trouble
going to sleep. It took a long, long time.
I had some kind of acid reflux going on.
It kept tasting like
that cactus coming back up.
I'm not seeing any benefits from eating the cactus.
I need fats and proteins.
My tank is at about an eighth of a tank.
If I'm gonna make extraction,
I've got to build that back up.
I'm going shrimping.
I haven't seen signs of life other than shrimp.
Hopefully, I can get enough shrimp to have a little
shrimp boil and get some good protein in me.
Shrimping has been dismal at best,
so still hopeful.
[water gushing]
Found one.
My plan to keep the shrimp is not like last time.
Last time I had the pot, I had the lid.
The lid came off.
Oh.
This time, I plan to take my bag out
into the water with me.
I'm gonna tie a piece of paracord around it,
so that I can cinch it up each time,
so they can't escape.
These shrimp get into these holes,
you have to reach them and grab them
and pull them out.
Try not to have them escape.
Any that escape is a big deal.
All right. That one makes four.
That's a honker.
Having enough shrimp to eat is a big deal
when it's coming to fats and proteins.
That's five, doing good.
I think this is number eight.
I'm headed back in.
I ended up with eight shrimp.
I'm pretty excited about this.
Day 19, it's the first real food
that I'm getting this challenge.
Look at this, I have floating shrimp.
Seeing all these shrimp lined up,
I feel fantastic. I feel happy.
I'm so stoked to eat them.
There's one, two, three,
four, five, six, seven,
eight, nine ready-to-eat shrimp.
Oh, my God. That's to [bleep]
it's a flavor explosion.
Look at that.
I have two days left before extraction.
This will get me through.
Last one.
I can honestly say this is the happiest
I've been in this challenge.
It has fat just dripping out of it.
Thank you, shrimp.
[Jamie] It's day 19,
I need to go and find some bamboo
'cause I want to make a raft to try and cross this river.
Because the amount of rain that's fell,
the river's flowing pretty fast.
I've got all the rain behind me here.
I can still be dry.
Some food and some bamboo.
So, I'm gonna take a few lengths of these
and hopefully, that will help me
make my body to eat.
Bit of bamboo there.
I'm gonna have to try and feed it under,
keeping everything in place 'cause when I start
to push this under there,
that's gonna want to come around.
Come on [bleep] come on.
Just don't get that partner with me, just to help me.
I'm trying to do everything myself.
And it is [bleep] hard, man.
I hope this works.
It will float,
but my main concern is,
will it hold together?
That's my best effort.
[James] Just about the end of another day.
Was not successful.
I've built traps for fish
and traps for birds, and I've have got the bow.
And I'm like, "I can get these extra calories."
And extra calories aren't coming.
Oh, boy.
Each day, the energy drop
has been dramatic.
Outside collecting some firewood
and walking out to the blind side,
there is no energy left.
Nothing.
I'm getting weaker and weaker.
And I'm not a hundred percent sure
if I can get to the end of the challenge.
[suspenseful music]
[James] The part that's tough in this environment here,
there's no fruit,
there's no other greens to eat
except for one bush
that has a leaf that you can eat.
It's a small oval leaf and it's got a double thorn
where one of them is curved, so I have to, like,
actually go up to every single bush
and just touch it and feel it in order to find it.
I got a long thorn and a little short thorn.
Found some.
I get double, triple,
quadruple portion.
And I'm hoping that if I go ahead
and boil it a little bit,
it'll soften it up
and make it a little more tolerable to eat.
You know, put these on to simmer for a while.
I'll probably boil it for about 15 minutes,
and then let it steep.
I'm planning to go get some fish, catch it, cook them
and have the fish and greens together.
This basket has been a lifesaver.
Just didn't think I'd be using it this way.
Although the big win with the bow is desire,
the bigger success is completing the 21 days.
And if that means eating leaves and small fish,
then that's what I'm gonna do.
That drive to figure it out came from my dad.
It's just, "Look around you,
study it, get to the end, be successful."
My dad, he passed away
literally right before the challenge.
So, it would break my heart
to not get to 21 days.
I wanna be able to dedicate it to my dad
and don't wanna dedicate a failure to him.
I want it to be a success.
So, I do wanna be in the challenge.
I wanna stay in the challenge
as a tribute to my dad.
Buffalo thorn and small fish.
Yeah. That's now my dinner plate.
I'll take a mouthful of the buffalo thorn
and I'll follow it by picking apart these tiny fish,
what little meat I can get off of them
and take another bite of buffalo thorn,
then go back to the fish.
I don't like fish. I can definitely tell you
I don't like buffalo thorn either.
I detest the texture.
It influences my gag reflex,
so it makes it very difficult to hold down.
Not exactly my favorite meal,
but it's a meal.
[Terra] Yeah, I'm tired.
My body is hurting.
And I might not have come out here
and kicked ass
and thrived like I wanted to.
But that doesn't mean I did a [bleep] job.
That doesn't mean I failed and that doesn't mean
I did anything, you know, terribly wrong.
Got a lot left to learn.
I'm not a master survivalist,
but I'd like to be.
Not gonna lie, I am kind of worried about extraction.
According to the map,
the best way to get there is by water.
If that's the case, I gotta build a raft.
Today, I plan on working on the raft
by making floatable pieces out of some reeds.
Start putting bundles of reeds
together with paracord,
then put those bundles together
and try to make a raft out of those bundles.
I'm definitely using my energy
a lot more efficiently
by making the floatation device out of reeds
instead of a raft out of wood.
Well, it's heavy and it's ugly,
but I think a few of them might actually work.
At least, it's a floatation device.
Tomorrow morning, I should have
either the raft complete
or the raft damn near complete.
So, it's night 20.
Extraction day tomorrow.
I'm just boiling a pot of water,
see if I can have a big drink before I leave tomorrow.
This should help me get some good sleep
'cause I'm pretty tired.
I can't wait.
Cannot wait to get out of here.
[Terra] I'm having a little bit of trepidation
about the voyage.
Just thinking about the little raft.
What if it falls apart? What if it doesn't work?
What if it rolls every time I try to get up on to it?
And will I have the strength to finish this,
like the physical strength?
I'd lie if I said I wasn't nervous.
I just don't want it all to fall apart at the end.
[James] Well, do you see what that is?
That is the morning of day 21.
Extraction time.
Last night, miserable night.
All I could think about was how bad
the hike and extraction can be.
The way cloud covers,
it may just be a miserable hike.
I'm ready to get out of here so bad.
I'm at the lower end of that creek
and I've got to go all the way to here.
The white tree has got to be the spot.
We find that tree and get my heinie out of here.

Terra has lost a total of 36 pounds.
Their SSR rises from 7.3 to 7.7.
Let's get the [bleep] out of here.
Whoo!
Completing my challenge in Zambia
gave me a little bit bigger of an ego than I deserved.
But I've been humbled and I've learned.
That's what survival is.
Evolve or die.
I did it and I did it alone, again.
Whoo! Twenty-one days!
[Kaila] Oh, it's just so bad.
Everything is so... It's so...
I can't tap out. I'm so close.
Come on. Please keep going.
Please don't go out. Oh, my God.
So, I'm trying not to freeze.
Now, I'm just wasting away
in this [bleep] shelter.
There's no animals.
I just want this to be over.
I just wanna go home.
[Fernando] It's really, really cold.
I cannot keep my heat.
This is no joke.
This is going to pass.
[bleep] this is it.
This is it.
Oh.
