I'm not going home!
Let the games begin.
They've proven they're the best.
Yes!
Of Naked and Afraid.
With my bare hands.
Now, the toughest survival competition
on the planet is back.
Ah, yes!
And more cutthroat than ever.
This time, you either have the skills or you don't.
To put 14 elite survivalists to the ultimate test...
In an all-out battle of skill
for 45 days in Africa's Munzwa Valley...
to crown the best of the best.
Yes!
Ah.
And win $100,000.
This is what I live for! Yeah!
Failure means elimination.
This challenge will weed out the weak.
Who will rise?
This is $100,000 on the line.
Who will fall?
Think it's making me feel like such as an outcast.
This the best of the best.
But only one winner.
And who will be the Last One Standing?
I came here to win!
Previously on Last One Standing...
I don't know how people are surviving in this.
Like my body aches because I'm shaking
and I can't get warm.
A severe windstorm
caused Kate to tap out of the competition.
I want to go home right now.
You're leaving?
And left Jeff and Patrick
as the only camp of two in the Bird Trap Challenge.
It would be nice to have another set of hands.
Darrin, Ky, and Bulent's winning bushcraft skills
awarded them the largest ostrich egg feast.
Look at this thing.
Oh, we got him.
Gary and Lindsey's hunting success
provided their camp with a small meal.
First bow kill.
But it couldn't be shared
with a vegetarian in their camp.
It kind of sucks
to feel like I'm like the odd one out in a trio.
And on Day 9... -Oh, we've got a scroll. -Yeah.
The 11 remaining survivalists
learned of their next group challenge.
"To compete, your camp must craft a primitive ax."
"You need to fell a tree at the X on Day 10.
And this is an elimination challenge."
-Oh. Oh. -Wow.
And damn, we got a day to do this.
We got to get crackin'.
This is like designed for you.
I know that we've won this challenge already.
Oh, this is gonna be hard.
It's a huge undertaking
and we're the only two-person team.
-Let's get working. -Let's do it.
The last thing in the world that I want
is to be eliminated from this challenge.
I'm pretty excited to be in this group
for the Day 10 challenge.
Why is that, Darrin?
Because I'm a flint knapper.
Flint knapping is one of my oldest hobbies I've had.
I started flint knapping when I was nine-years old.
The very first challenge, I smoked everyone.
I saw a perfect piece of quartzite,
drive a flake off of it.
That was easy.
I was the first to get
my knife and rope down from the tree.
I don't even think it took me 30 seconds.
So, I'm not worried about elimination.
I know no matter what,
we're not gonna come in last in this challenge.
For this Elimination Challenge,
competitors must craft axes
using any natural resource available to them
in order to fell a tree the following day.
Axes are often critical items
on a Naked and Afraid Challenge,
helping survivalists build steadier shelters
and chop hardwood for fire.
Oh, it's coming, Gary.
Oh, okay. Get ready to get back.
Oh Gary Bunyan in the house.
I'm gonna go up on the hill
and look for as much good quartzite
that I can knap easy.
Flint knapping is actually the English term
for the guys that made flints for guns,
and it just means I think flint worker.
You know what we're looking for, team?
-He does and he'll just point. -Yup.
We are your servants today.
He's made plenty of primitive axes in his time
and I just have to trust him
because I don't wanna go home.
No one else knows what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for tight grain quartzites.
I want the grain particles in the stone
to be as small and fine as possible.
When it's course, it's hard to remove
the material in big pieces.
Like this flat piece flint
is already the thickness I need
because that's a lot less work to craft the finished tool.
Okay. Got you.
Like, this piece is almost already an ax.
One of the most important is your hammer stone.
Look at that, the grain on that one.
Oh, that's beautiful.
You want your hammer stone to be different
than the tool stone, different entities.
I mean, just that quick,
you can start to get nice little chopping edge.
That's beautiful.
I'm gonna make like three or four nice axes
and win this challenge.
So we have all day.
-I say we at least make three. -I agree.
We can kind of each have our own ax.
Yeah, because that way if something breaks
or something happens, we don't have to waste time
to re-fix it.
-We'll have backups. -And if one goes down,
the other two could still be swinging.
Exactly.
All right.
Well, let's go.
It's little terrifying
because the losers have to go to elimination.
I've messed around with making stuff like this,
making like little tools,
but nothing that like put my fate on the line.
I think I have a plan.
I was little intimidated when I saw the challenge.
You know, I haven't made an ax before
and cut down a tree with it,
but this is about bushcraft but this is about strength
and having energy which our team has.
Gonna brute force this tree down.
Thanks to myself and my teammates,
we got three ostrich eggs.
Woo!
And this is your list.
We got a whole bunch of fish.
I think we've eaten more than any other team out here
and we have more muscle than any other team out here.
I'm strong and I have energy,
I'm gonna use that to my advantage.
I think a lot of other people, Darrin's camp included,
might be looking at the typical way
you craft a primitive ax
that you wanna use in the long term
and that kind of thing.
Biggest mistake you make in this challenge
is over engineering
I'm gonna go up into the hill a little bit.
There's a lot of ironwood up in the hill.
The wood is incredible hard.
The rock broke, so... Well, wood didn't break.
Good sign.
Lashing a rock on is not my strong suit,
and it's not something you just learn
on the fly out here.
Oh, this is interesting.
Best wood is big and heavy,
and has a lot of natural crevices in it.
So I have some big, heavy log with a crook in it,
and I can put a rock right in it.
I don't need to fashion it super tight
because it's just gonna be bashing against the back
of the handle essentially.
That's the kind of wood I want.
If I craft a big one that's a few feet long
with a big sharp, sharp rock on the end
and just wield it around
and whack this tree over and over again,
that could be exactly the strategy
that we need to win this thing.
It's my first time doing this.
I want this thing to be thick, I want strength.
Cutting through a mopane branch on day nine is not easy,
but this may be it.
We get eliminated and the party's over.
We gotta set out individually to make axes.
We're all up for elimination if we don't finish this.
If we could have three good axes,
you know, that'd be...
Because as they break, just next?
Yeah.
I'm nervous.
The challenge is very, very physical,
and Dani's a vegetarian.
My body is just craving calories.
It's empty.
She's already really thin
and I can tell she's getting tired.
My team might be at a bit of a disadvantage,
having only one guy,
but my teammates' bushcraft skills
are gonna be what get us through this.
All right. So we'll just split up
-and just gather and... -Gather some stuff.
Yeah, just use your eye on what you think
will work good, you know.
Sounds good. Let's go.
I never made a primitive ax.
I have some ideas, but we have wood, we have rocks.
It's just a matter of figuring out
how to put them together correctly.
Now this already has
a nice edge and handle.
That's a really good find.
Finding out that this is an elimination challenge
is horrifying.
I may not have as much physical strength
as people out here,
but I'm more of like the bushcraft nerd.
I have made a primitive stone hammer.
I'm afraid cordage might be too weak,
so I wanna have a backup plan.
We had one tree that was producing a lot of sap.
I can make a pitch glue to help secure my ax.
You take sap, a little bit of eggshells and charcoal,
and you blend it together like a paste,
and glue and cordage together will make a very secure hold.
I'm going to do everything it takes
to stay in this challenge
because I am not ready to go home yet.
I've never made one before.
It seems simple enough in theory.
My plan is to find a rock that breaks sharp.
Give this one a throw.
Ugh.
Gosh damn it.
This is gonna be a toughie.
But it's not supposed to be easy now, is it?
It's hot out here.
People are gonna be burning a lot of calories
and burn them through a lot of water today.
I mean, I would not be surprised
if it hit a 110 degrees this afternoon.
So there I have my first potential ax handle.
This is very, very heavy.
And I'll start looking for ax heads.
This challenge is definitely gonna lead
to someone going home, which is scary as
because the more time I spend with Patrick,
the more I recognize that he's still a rookie.
It definitely showed during the previous challenge
when Patrick rushed through his trigger mechanism.
And we ended up failing that challenge.
Yeah.
So, I'm hyper-focused on making sure
that doesn't happen again.
My bushcraft skills are great.
Now, I'm not an expert, okay?
But they're good.
I've used a couple of primitive axes before.
The main problem that everybody's gonna have,
their axes are gonna break.
Most of these rocks are so brittle.
You find different rocks out here on the flats
and the majority of people
will probably be taking the rocks from the mountain,
so I might kind of think out of the box a little bit,
maybe get a heads-up on the competition
by looking for different rock types out here.
My solution to the blades potentially breaking
on tomorrow's challenge is the black ironstone.
It's super, super strong.
Yeah, that's what I'm looking for right there.
Super fine grained.
Oh, yeah.
That's the exact type of rock I'm looking for.
Jeff has over 250 days out here
with Naked and Afraid which, you know, is a lot.
But as we saw in that last challenge
for the ostrich eggs,
Jeff didn't really know what we were doing.
Dude, it's all over the place.
Jeff made the basket for this trap completely wrong.
He said that he knew how to build this.
Last year, I did 280 days of backpacking.
I think it gives me a big advantage out here.
I'm a critical thinker
and I'm always thinking of different ways
to handle different problems.
That's the kind of stone we're looking for right there.
I am going to be the last one standing.
Darrin, you're going straight
into the other people's camps,
so let's go around them somehow.
Darrin is a wealth of knowledge
on how to use a primitive ax,
and anything we can use to our advantage tomorrow,
I wanna keep between us.
People who don't know anything
like to sneak past other people's encampments
to learn stuff.
So I think we need all strategy
talk to cease till tonight,
because that could be the difference
between winning and losing.
There's Ky gaming, nice.
Did you just tell us to shut the up?
I think that's what she just said.
Love you, hon.
And when I'm busting the rock apart,
I gotta remember to put the bag to the front
so I don't cut my wiener off.
Almost happened to me one time.
I love working flint.
One of the most basic principles of it
is a hammer stone and your tool stone or your flint.
You're working on the principles of the Hertzian cone.
And the Hertzian cone is like when you shoot
a window with a BB, that angle of the cone
that breaks out on the backside of the window
is a constant, and you are manipulating
that constant angle of fracture.
So I'm hitting at a nice little angle
like this, you know, like my impact
just trying to come in at this angle.
If I went in like this, I'd shatter everything.
It's pretty much done.
Just one of like three or four we're gonna have, so...
All right.
That's kind of like the basic principles and...
I mean, there's a lifetime of knowledge
to learn about it, but, uh, that's all I can really say.
I don't want the other team
to learn too much from me today.
I just wanna start, like, a channel.
It'll end up going mostly through.
Techniques to attach a stone to a wood handle,
or hafting, can vary.
One method is to create a mortis,
a hole or a groove to wedge the ax at.
With each strike of the ax,
the stone wedges further in.
Not tying is needed.
So I'm trying to get a channel started
with some coals from the fire
and just slowly it burns through
and kind of fire-hardens the sides as well.
What are you coming up with?
-Burning a hole on that? -Yes.
You have an amazing idea.
And I'm thinking, you know, if I made a slot, right?
-Yeah. -Put the ax head in there.
Another method of attaching the stone
is to split the ax handle symmetrically,
insert the ax head, and secure with lashing.
This is really gonna take hours upon hours,
-isn't it? -Yeah.
It's a slow process.
This feels like the hottest day we've yet,
-doesn't it? -I know.
Damn, the sun is intense.
This is the Africa I remember.
I don't wanna make a socketed handle.
We'd have to use way too big of a branch.
I'm trying to make a proper tool
with the least amount of energy put in into it.
Dude, how big do you need this fire?
That should be more than enough.
It's just enough to heat the wood up
so it softens it, steams it a little bit.
By the time that burns down to coal, it's like...
That'll... We'll be done.
One of my favorite style handles
is just a steamed branch
bent around a groove in the stone.
And by just quickly heating a green branch over a fire,
you can cause the moisture in the bark to turn to steam
and it softens the wood and makes it flexible.
That's gorgeous.
I'm just working it extra slowly.
You could take a branch and bend it
all the way up and around
and back over on itself around the stone.
And then you tie that off so it can't come back apart.
With a stone ax, you're not really cutting the fibers,
you're more crushing them apart.
So it's not about like big powerful swings.
So we're not gonna be winding up and smacking it?
No. Big swings will shatter your head.
Took like 10 minutes.
People don't think it's gonna hold,
but that's what the Plains Indians
used for their war clubs
and cultures all over North America
use for ax handles.
If that type of handle will work for a tool of war,
it's gonna guaranteed work to chop this tree down.
Within about 15, 20 minutes, Darrin is finished.
I think we're gonna do great in this challenge.
That's wonderful.
I think we have this one already.
So, I got a few different candidates.
Nice.
I'll start banging away.
How's the flint knapping coming?
Good. I got a few good ones over there.
Cool. Awesome.
This is a stone I found
that I'm hoping can be my ax head.
It's super dense.
It shouldn't break when using it tomorrow.
The problem's gonna be,
how the hell do I fracture this thing?
Right. I'm gonna go, uh, bash some rocks
over on the rock pile over here.
Cool.
I wish that we were a better team right now.
I feel like maybe Jeff is the weakest link
when it comes to this one.
Man, this is a strong rock.
When I do have an ax head out of this, it...
It's not gonna break tomorrow.
And now I just need to break it a couple times
and hope it fractures the way that I'm hoping.
There.
Seriously?
Oh, I just got a rock shard on my penis.
Ugh.
Me.
Oh, I just got a rock shard on my penis.
Right in the tip of my penis.
Oh, damn.
Ugh.
Okay.
All right. It could have been worse.
It could have been worse. Just one little...
one little rock crystal in the tip of the Hoo.
Well, show must go on.
I may not be the most skilled.
I may not be the most of this, the most of that,
but I'll be damned if I leave here.
And I'm not the hardest working
son of a bitch out here.
Oh, yeah, baby.
I got a natural blade on that piece there.
All right.
That I can work with.
I'm gonna win this thing, baby.
I'm gonna win.
The hard part right now
is securing a really good ax head.
Right now, I'm thinking this might be the rock
and the stick I wanna use for this one.
I'm a little bit worried because I never had to make
a primitive ax before.
It's never really been necessarily.
So right now, I just tied off my first blade.
For my second tool,
I'm trying to burn into this piece of ironwood.
This wood is so sturdy and so hard
that I would be here all day
if I tried to carve my way into it with my knife.
Hey, man.
How'd it go?
Doing good.
I got my rocks busted down
-into workable fragments. -Nice.
But, uh, holy Man, it's hot out there.
Yup.
Once again, another challenge where another partner
would really come in handy, huh?
Yup.
-Hey. -Hey.
How are you? What'd you thinking?
I'm working on a little bit something.
Don't laugh at it.
It's a little girl one.
Making a little tiny pettily hand ax,
probably not what I want.
We need like brute force.
About two hands here and then I can just
put my body into it.
I've done this before.
I know how these challenges go.
This is a skill challenge in crafting this,
but it's also a speed challenge,
which means we're gonna need speed and strength.
I'm not nearly as strong as you guys.
'Cause if it's too heavy, it's gonna make me tired immediately.
So I want something where there's gonna
be a nice balance.
I love Dan, but I say up, he says down,
and I don't like that.
Don't underestimate me.
The right ax at the right time
could be the difference between $100,000 and nothing.
How am I gonna tie this rock in?
So I'll show you what I did.
I like to put this grooves here
to like hold on the rope.
It does look pretty good though.
I think you'd... That does look really good.
I even have a little back up in case it breaks.
...also a beast.
They each built an ax as well.
This is what I made.
The branch of a mopane tree.
Doesn't look like much, but it's pretty dang stout.
I rather be exhausted, but, yeah.
We'll be exhausted and win.
I was a wildland firefighter when I was younger,
and we would use hand tools for hours and hours
fighting wildland brush fires.
So, hopefully, that just helps all of us win this thing.
I don't know. I don't think we'll be last.
It's hard.
It's a lot of work, guys.
It's very, like, meticulous.
Yeah. It's an energy suck for everybody.
Mmm-hmm.
This is...
really stinkin' tiring.
And the idea of hacking down a tree tomorrow...
is already so draining.
Dani is on 700 calories, Gary and I, maybe 750
in nine days.
But hey, we're the only all-female team.
It's true.
-We're gonna kick butt. -Girls rule.
Girls rule.
You're just a bad bitch, Gary.
Heh.
If I'm honest, I'm nervous about tomorrow.
Lindsey is an athlete.
She'll be right there with me, with...
But Dani is tiny,
and there's not gonna be much weight behind that ax.
We might be in trouble.
It's burning.
Does that look awesome?
It does look cool.
It's really heavy.
I have one.
I burned it, so there is notch.
A nice sharp-ish blade.
For my ax, I'm making some pitch glue.
I just scraped some ostrich eggshell
into the tree sap.
And next I'm just gonna add some charcoal.
Crushing all that,
and I already see how thick this is.
And that just makes like kind of a super glue.
And Native Americans used it
to patch holes in their wooden canoes.
And that will attach the ax head,
and then I'm just gonna wrap it a lot with cordage.
I have no idea what tomorrow's gonna bring.
We have three axes right now.
Yeah.
Show the people what we've got.
Show the peoples what we got.
We've got one little stone ax,
two stone ax,
three stone ax, and... number four stone ax.
All right. So we're going into this challenge
with four stone axes and the whole lot of hope.
I think I might go check out the other camps.
I mean...
Darrin will know
the ax head rock to use for sure, right?
So right now, I'm going over to check out
Darrin, Bulent, and Ky's camp.
If I can get any wisdom from them,
even if it's stolen wisdom by snooping around,
uh, it's gonna be worth it to me.
Using a stone ax, you basically we want
-your cut to be... -Hey, buddy.
Oh, it's a spy from the other team.
We've just been taken fairly slow.
Yeah.
Yeah. Bit of chillin' out
under the tree, bit of flint knapping
and we haven't really got any finished product yet,
but we're getting there.
Dude, I've never made a stone ax before.
Yeah.
All right. See you guys.
-Have a good day. -See you buddy.
Well, good luck tomorrow.
Yeah, you will.
I just finished up over at Darrin, and Bulent's camp,
and I feel a lot better.
Um, Darrin was talking about the fact that,
uh, we should expect to have our blades break.
I saw that.
I feel like we know what we're doing,
but anything can happen.
Yup.
The other people could have found
the perfect stone that won't break.
No. And Jeff's bushcraft skills are...
Yeah.
Their tools are gonna be so crude and primitive.
Patrick seemed to know
what he was talking about though.
Yeah. Patrick seems like a guy full of surprise.
Yeah.
-No. -Nope.
Best thing we can do is get an early night and rest.
Day 10, big day today.
-Big day today -Showtime.
Good thing we got energy.
This is gonna be a challenge of energy and strength.
Pretty sure we're gonna go fierce barbarian crazy style
on those trees today.
Our strategy's slow and steady with the stone tool.
We're gonna rock this challenge.
It's gonna be a good day.
-Oh, yeah. -Do we wanna bring that entire extra rope?
We have a few, maybe four ready to go,
but we have extra handles and heads.
This is like running an marathon
right now on zero sleep.
There's my ax blade
made out of what is locally called "iron stone."
I've got my two axes ready to go.
I feel pretty good to go.
But I look over and I see what Patrick has for today
and I'm not too confident with the axes
that he's bringing to this challenge,
and that worries me.
Seems like maybe he, uh, half-assed a couple of these.
I'm gonna bring all my spare usable shards and pieces.
All of Jeff's ax heads,
not all of them fit into his handle securely.
And I'm worried about what might happen
when he starts swinging them.
Okay. Got everything.
Ax, water.
All right. Let's get out of here.
We're gonna win it.
It's time. Let's go.
I feel as ready as we're gonna be.
With their primitive axes in hand,
each camp has been instructed
to meet at a large baobab tree,
to learn the next steps for this challenge.
Morning.
Hey.
I walk up and see the other teams and their axes.
Everybody really looks primitive, caveman-like.
Darrin's looks really good,
it's a unique concept I never even thought of.
Walking up to the baobab tree,
I noticed I'm the only one with a giant satchel
of rocks right now.
All right.
They're basically just going with the axes
that they've already prepared.
I hope this gives me
some type of advantage in the challenge.
I'm just looking at everyone else's axes,
kind of judging the other teams a little bit.
A lot of them were just brute-force axes
with basically just found rocks
that aren't even flint-knapped, latched to a handle.
Definitely have a really good chance of first place.
Wow. Okay.
"Today, your camp must fell a tree
with a bushcrafted ax."
For this challenge, each camp must cut down
one of the corkwood trees marked with cordage,
using only their primitive stone axes.
For the safety of the survivalists,
only one campmate may chop at a time.
The first camp to fell their tree
will claim a cached Pulaski ax.
That's my tool of choice.
First good blade of the challenge.
-Wow. -There we go.
"The last camp to finish
will face an elimination challenge."
-Whoa. -Ooh.
The losing camp will return the following day
to face off against each other in a challenge
that will send one survivalist home.
"Your challenge starts now."
- Oh, -Wow.
Wow.
-Okay, team. -I'm going.
There's one right there. You see it?
Yes, got one.
Got one. Come with me, Trish.
-Come with me, Trish. -Yeah.
Some real shocking turn of events.
Just found out the losing camp on this challenge
is gonna face elimination within their camp.
-This is a big deal. -I do not wanna go home.
It's leaning this way, guys.
Definitely need a back cut over here.
Then a regular cut here.
Go. Let's do it.
There's one. Right there.
There's one right there. Right there.
See the trees? Come on.
-Oh, yeah. Okay. -Right there.
-First chop, this tree. -Good find.
This looks dandy.
No other trees around it when it falls.
If we end up losing this challenge,
Jeff and I are going to the arena against each other.
That'll be a nightmare.
Challenge starts now, boys.
Yup.
Go slow and steady.
-Dan... -We got this, guys.
-It's holding up well. -That sounds solid.
Oh, baby.
If it breaks, if it doesn't work, that's terrifying.
None of us are ready to go home.
Three.
Oh, rock fell off.
Three.
Oh, rock fell off.
Yup.
The ax had start to break on their massive axes.
It's terrifying because the losers
who don't complete felling a tree
have to go to elimination.
-Little higher. -Higher.
Oh, rock's off?
About this one?
Trisha's little kind of small dainty ax,
that won't leave a success I don't think.
We put a lot of energy, Dan and I,
to making these big, big heavy handle,
just in our mind, strong axes.
We're already down two axes,
which is a little concerning.
The worst case scenario for us
would be to have all our axes out of commission
and have no progress being made.
I really, really don't wanna go home.
It's broken. It's done.
It's kind of wonderful.
You like that ax?
The ax is doing its job perfectly fine.
Good thing I know my bushcraft.
My team's strategy for this challenge
is we wanted tools that we knew
we could go slow and steady and win the race.
We don't want to repair tools in the field.
It's about short, precise swings.
Or like when a dog chews a table leg.
Big dog. I got it.
To be able to preserve your strength
is a big strategy of our team.
-Bulent. -Yup?
Switch out?
Yup. Teamwork.
One person chops, two people rest.
Slow and steady wins this race, right?
How's it looking?
Pretty good.
So do we want to try
and get it to fall that way, Gary?
It's weighted one way.
Yeah, this is more like pulverizing it
-than chopping it, huh? -Oh, absolutely.
How long does it take to pulverize a tree?
Yeah.
Ah, it's already broke.
All right. Now my ax is working pretty well,
but it is hot, it is dry,
and I'm already getting tired.
I gotta switch out, dude.
Okay. Switch.
Go.
Good job, bro.
Good job.
I do a 360-degree swing
of all the way around the tree.
And I'm really starting to dig into the corkwood.
And strategy here is to chop
all the way around the tree if we can,
and, uh, and get it weakened all the way around.
Okay, Jeff, switch out.
Are you fresh?
Uh, fresh enough.
Okay.
My ax is working smooth.
It's like a pickaxe.
I start hammering through that tree,
and it is peeling away from the bark like butter.
We're looking good, brother.
We're looking good, my man.
The head is coming crooked a little bit on that one.
That's fine.
What's happening, Lindsey?
So many hours for nothing.
It's not staying in.
The ax not staying in.
I really don't wanna focus
on the elimination at this point.
I wanna focus on fixing our axes
and getting that tree down.
If I ever have to make another one of these,
I know what Darrin did.
Wish we could see the other people's progress.
Well, there's no axes chopping at the moment,
so that should give me an idea of progress.
Within the first 10 minutes of the challenge,
we realized that there's no other team still chopping.
Everyone else is having to repair their tools
while we're still chopping,
and that makes me feel good.
We definitely have a really good chance
of first place.
Go ahead. Start using mine. Don't waste time.
Somebody start chopping with it.
This thing was killing it.
Was doing amazing until the rock flew off.
Clearly wasn't a good strategy.
Like do this again, just maybe swing it a little less.
Just maybe not go as hard
because they're not as strong as you guys is.
Okay.
While the guys' axes are down, they're using my ax.
And they might not be the best,
biggest, and strongest, but they're still working.
They're taking bits of that tree out.
And I think we're still in business.
This is not bad. So I think...
Just know we're making progress.
This is not bad.
Yeah? Did I pass?
I did the best I could.
No, no, great job, Trish.
This is great job.
So this is a Celtic-style ax.
The reason why I built this
and didn't tie it in with ropes
is because over time with repetitive striking,
the ropes loosen.
And eventually, they ax head will come loose.
This way, every time I strike,
the ax head should get stronger
and more secure in the ax handle.
Ah, nah.
This ain't working.
Yeah, at all.
Oh, wait, if I hit it the right angle.
Nope.
Looking good, guys.
And we still got unused ax.
Are we going any further around
or are we okay with this half?
I think we're good for now.
Yeah.
The struggle is real, ladies.
-It is. -The struggle is real.
This is extremely exhausting.
It's a lot of just physical work.
I don't wanna compete against Gary and Lindsey.
Oh, mine's coming loose.
Made a little bit of progress.
As a wildland firefighter in my younger days,
I've swung a tool for up to 16 hours
before on wildland fires.
It's all about finding your rhythm,
finding your groove, breathing,
and then not thinking about the pain.
-You know what help me, Trish? -What?
If you scream, "Help me. I'm trapped,"
-over and over and over again. -Help, I'm trapped!
Help, fire escape's on fire.
Oh, baby, we're, like, halfway done.
Man, I really wish we were allowed
to give this thing a push.
Yeah. Me too.
Because it'd probably be over already.
Your ax is killing it right now.
It's the unsung hero of this whole thing.
-Thanks, man. -This doesn't stop.
I got it. I'm good.
You ready?
Come on, man, you got this.
Killing that tree.
Not much holding this thing on.
That tree's moving, bro.
The tree's getting weak.
Yes, it is.
I think we're almost heavy.
Nice job, Gary.
Sounds like good progress.
It's falling.
Look at that.
Oh, my God.
Come on, Dan. You got this.
The tree's getting weak.
Yes, it is.
We get this done, we could win it.
Come on.
It's falling.
Falling.
Oh, Yes. Run.
Holy They just finished.
This is a total surprise.
We're not the first ones there.
-Go! -Good job.
Yes! Oh, my God, we're first.
I grabbed the Pulaski, you know, really fast.
Oh, good. Great job.
Minor injury.
I try to grab the ax handle.
My damn finger goes right over the blade
and cuts my ring finger.
I'm flinging blood all over the place.
That is brutal.
I'm bleeding a lot.
Yes!
I'm excited.
We're first. We won.
But then I'm so confused,
like, there's blood flying everywhere.
-Did it... -Just Oh, no.
That's not gonna be good.
This is what victory looks like.
Oh, dang.
There's the Pulaski.
Keep going, Ky.
-Keep going. -Keep going.
As long as we're not last.
No.
As long as we finish.
I say keep going.
At this point, it doesn't matter
who comes in second or third.
The only thing we can't do is come in fourth.
Now we're playing for...
elimination.
God dammit.
My finger grazed across the blade.
Can't believe I did that.
Oh, dang.
Dan just left a blood trail to our victory table.
If we didn't have yours, we wouldn't have won.
Oh, my God. My little...
Dainty little girly ax coming in
for the win with everybody.
How many stitches you got, Dan?
Wow.
That's a big wound.
An injury could be... Could be huge out here.
Dan might be out of commission.
But I know it's not good.
If this finger gets infected,
it could take me out of this competition.
Quick.
Ky.
Go to the other side.
Go around, go around it.
Come here, Ky.
I'm super proud of my axes that I made,
but Dan and Fernando are both beasts,
like those guys have twice the muscle mass
easily each that I have.
But I wanna be second place.
That's it.
That's the bit. That's the bit.
-It's moving. -Hey, watch out.
Watch out, buddy.
Let's go. Let's go.
-Let's go. -Right. Yup.
Oh, man.
-Yeah, there goes one. -There they go.
-Whew. -Um, you do it.
-Yes. -Yeah, buddy.
I'm proud of you.
I'm hot.
I've expended thousands of calories to nothing,
but my strategy in this game
is long as that I didn't lose, I consider it a win.
My God, that's impressive.
I made four axes for our team and none of them broke.
You know, that makes me feel proud as well.
This can be, like, in a Smithsonian-like
murder history museum.
Gary's team is still chopping
and Jeff's team is still chopping.
Somebody gonna go to an elimination tomorrow,
so we'll see who'll that be.
Well...
Then there were two.
Again.
And for last, it's gonna be us three
against each other in the Thunderdome there.
Yeah.
We just got to push through, keep a level head,
and continue with what we're doing.
Right now, I can only pray
to the trail Gods that there are other team struggling.
We cannot come in last.
Jeff and I are coming in third place.
This one works great.
I'm getting some progress.
Good. Nice.
Got the handles holding up, huh?
Great job, Lindsey.
My handle might be the most solid one out here.
I'm just trying to fit this with the amount of rocks
we had to take over.
It's hot though.
We are energy depleted.
We got one ready. I'm getting pretty tired now.
Yeah.
Being in the two-man team among three competitors
is proving to be very difficult.
It's hard because we don't really get a break.
Oh, goddammit.
Oh, my God.
It's hot,
things are breaking, but we wanna push ourselves.
We wanna fight to the end.
Oh, shoot.
It's totally broken.
Oh, shoot.
The wood broke?
It's totally broken.
But that's what happens when you burned wood
and you weakened it.
So unfortunately, this was our best bet.
That was the one we're doing the work.
Okay. That changes the game.
Yeah, it does.
The one that Gary's using
is the only viable one right now.
Uh, this ain't working.
Dammit.
Goddammit.
So you've been running your head swinging in?
It's all right.
Once we find a good combo,
we'll go through it like butter, like early on.
A lot of our materials are starting to break.
Right now, my abs are cramping
from jumping up and down, making axes.
It's a little bit of a mess right now
but keeping a level head is the number one thing
that's gonna get us through this challenge.
The task is to not finish last.
If we do that, we avoid an elimination tomorrow.
This one's working pretty good.
The bigger axe head allows you to throw
a lot more force behind it.
Ax cutting through like butter.
Do you see that, brother?
Yup.
Let's keep chopping away.
This point in the challenge
it's more about pure grit and the will to survive,
the will to fight than it is even about skill.
So right now, I'm just hitting this tree
with everything I have.
Go, go, go. Let's go, run.
Oh, look.
-Yes. -Wow.
-Woo. -Yay.
No elimination.
Well done.
That was hard.
Well, well done.
Nope, that's it.
Gary, that's it.
Save your energy. That's it, Gary.
Huh?
That's it.
Oh, I'm too excited.
-Oh, that was scary. -You did it.
I thought... I thought we were last.
I'm still in the game.
I've got blood blisters on my hands, open wounds.
Some people, they might outskill me,
they might out knowledge me,
but nobody is gonna outwork me.
You guys, doing two people like that,
that's not easy, man.
I was worried there.
Being down a partner, people don't know
what it's like out here.
You know, this is day 10
and we've had to get our own food, get our own water,
get all our firewood, just the two of us.
And then to come out here
and have to do these challenges, it's brutal.
Jeff and I pulled through it and you know what?
I'm not going home.
Yeah.
It's all right.
We're last place.
-Yeah. -It's all right.
Well, it is what it is.
-It was a good effort. -Thank you...
-Yeah. -for your effort, you two.
I'm proud of you guys.
Knowing that I'm going into an elimination challenge
after how hard I just worked,
just doesn't feel good.
For Gary, Dani, and I
to go in to an elimination together,
I'm nervous not knowing what it is.
I actually have a pretty faith in Dani and Gary's skills,
and I'm gonna need to really work
really hard to be up there with them.
All right. Let's get out of here.
Yeah.
The adrenaline is wearing off.
Is it?
Well, while I'm in the water, just find a shady spot.
Standing in the sun for half the day today,
bashing a tree down is exhausting,
but I am eternally grateful for a sustainable food source.
Oh.
All right.
I got two decent-sized ones.
We got a nice haul here.
I'm proud of my team today.
We did it, team.
Can you believe it?
I believe it.
I know, that was awesome.
-The only thing... -Got Pulaski.
This is gonna come in handy down the road.
The only thing that I'm sad about...
I don't know for what yet.
Is your finger.
I know. A little "ax-ident."
Ax-ident?
"Ax-ident." Get it?
I know. It's gonna be okay. It's a clean cut.
It's gonna heal up fast.
Oh, God.
Oh, my back.
Patrick, I'm getting too old for this, man.
It's only a tap away.
Please.
That wording ain't in my vocabulary.
The sun is setting on day 10
and I'm going to bed with a smile on my face, baby.
Somebody's going home tomorrow.
Freaking bummer.
Today, we're teammates, now we're opponents.
It's gonna be interesting.
Yeah.
And that's what we're here to do, right?
We're here to compete.
It's the name of the game.
Me and the girls
are gonna enter the Thunderdome tomorrow,
and one of them is going home next.
It's morning of day 11,
elimination day.
Dun, dun, dun.
Hello.
It's the day.
I'm ready to duke it out.
Today, we're fighting our own kind.
Right.
Kill or be kill day.
We're still waiting to find out
what our elimination is,
so I'm trying to relax and staying hydrated.
We just had a very exhausting past two days
and knowing that we have another challenge,
it's physically draining, mentally draining.
It's like illogically draining.
But we're gonna give it our all.
It's gonna be one hell of a day.
All three of us wanna win this challenge today
and one of us has to go home.
It could be me.
I think we're all kind of assuming
it's gonna be Dani who goes home.
What if it's Gary?
-It could be. -Right?
-You never know. -Yeah.
It's the morning of day 11
and I'm gonna do some early morning fishing.
Oh, did you catch fish already?
We're doing this early, really early.
Like, I don't even think the sun's all the way up.
We're doing this because we wanna kind of go low-key
and out of the eyesight of any other camps
that might come down here.
Dan really took a hit yesterday.
He sliced his finger open and got six stitches.
We thought it would be great to, like,
get back with some fish for him
and surprise him this morning with a nice breakfast.
The small ones are falling through.
It's okay.
We want the big ones.
Mmm-hmm.
This guy is big.
Oh, what a dope.
Oh, careful.
That's a big fish.
Fernando, he's killing it.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
We've got a haul of fish for the morning
and nobody's here, nobody sees us.
We're in and out like ninjas.
Oh, yeah, jackpot.
We expended so many calories yesterday
and so our focus needs to be on how we can get
some big fish out of that pond.
-Yup. -Yup.
Eleven days into this challenge
and Dan has stitches in one hand.
Gary and Dani and Lindsey are going to elimination,
and our team doesn't even have a blister yet,
so I think we're doing pretty good as a team.
We know how strong we are
and no one else is a threat to us out here.
Are you ready?
All right.
We're gonna go fishing this morning,
trying to get so me bigger fish.
I think I'm almost day 21 Columbia skinny already.
It's not a good sign.
We're back in survival mode here,
food, fire, water, shelter.
Let's go through to the next challenge.
If we got one big catfish,
it would be more meat on one catfish.
So we are going for the bigger fish.
I quite like this spot here.
It's got a breeze, some shade.
I wanna see where the croc is first.
There's one on the left side.
That's about 10:30.
Yeah.
Nile crocodiles are ambush predators,
capable of seizing preys as large as a water buffalo.
They have razor sharp teeth
and a bite force of up to 5,000 pounds.
Crocs pull their kills underwater
to drown in a death roll.
That crocodile is a smart, calculating predator.
We need to make sure that we don't go in the water.
So he's probably just gorging a catfish.
Everything I hear about Africa says catfish
are in every body of water.
Come on, fish.
You got to be in here.
I know what I'm not doing today.
What is that?
Going to an elimination challenge.
-Ooh. -Phew.
Today, Gary, Dani, and Lindsey
head for an elimination challenge.
One of them is going home.
Meanwhile, I get to survive, which is what I do best.
I'm gonna head up on the mountain.
I'm gonna see if I can find a baobab
and collect some of the leaves for a little breakfast.
And this is just what I was looking for here.
The small ones, it tastes fresh,
clean, like wow, like that's...
That would make a good salad.
We know that we're at a disadvantage
with being the only camp without a bow.
You got to eat what the environment gives to you
and that's what I'm doing now.
When your day to day routine starts to resemble a giraffe.
It's like, where did I go wrong?
Jeff and I are stuck surviving much more primitively
than the other groups.
There's a lizard.
I'm putting a lot of effort trying to get food
but Africa is not as fruitful as I was hoping.
I hit him.
I just don't think I hit him with enough force
because of the grass.
I don't see him.
What's up?
What's up, buddy?
Any edible creatures running around?
Some lizards.
A meat eater like myself,
I'm definitely having to adapt here in this location.
Dani, she's a vegetarian in South Africa.
That's gonna be tough.
This is last one standing.
Dani is kind of like that mouse
that's walking into a lion's den right now.
And if given the opportunity,
I believe it's gonna be so easy for me
to eliminate her from this challenge.
So here's my plan, dude.
I wanna go over to Team Gary, Dani, Lindsey.
Uh-huh.
And I want to offer my place
in the elimination challenge in place of Lindsey.
So she get saved, she doesn't have to compete.
In exchange, there will be a trade for her bow.
So I'll basically be putting my life on the line...
For a bow.
For a bow.
And it'll save her.
So she would be crazy not to accept, right?
Yeah.
I mean that's like Jeff one-on-one right there
rolling the dice.
If anything, it's a mind game that will with anybody.
Mmm-hmm.
The fact that I offered to put myself
into an elimination challenge to receive a bow,
they might think I am... Might be desperate for a bow.
However, I think I'm just that confident.
Lindsey's life is saved.
She could care less
if I was going against Gary or Dani, right?
And I'm getting my hands on a bow.
I think it's a no-brainer.
Good morning, guys.
-Good morning. -Good morning.
Hey.
I have an interesting trade offer I wanted to throw.
And I had to throw it before you guys leave.
Jeff is sneaky and underhanded
and here to play to the game and do whatever it takes.
So the trade offer goes to you Lindsey.
Okay.
You know, I've been trying to get my hands on a bow.
And I am willing to take your spot
in today's elimination challenge.
You can stay, be safe, continuing the challenge.
I'll compete in your place in exchange for a bow.
Lindsey, I am willing to take your spot
in today's elimination challenge
in exchange for a bow.
It's interesting.
I just... I just... I was, like, he's going to risk
going home for a bow right now, so...
I just want to throw it out.
It is interesting.
No, yeah.
Jeff isn't my number one competition.
Jeff is just the most sneaky snake
out of all of them though.
-Yeah. -The bows are not mine.
They're ours.
So they stay with whoever stays.
-Okay. -Yeah.
Three of us going in, two people stayed,
two people have the bows
and then they're yours or mine.
Mmm-hmm.
Or who's ever to trade at that point.
Yeah. We... We're just... Yeah.
Willing to let one of us go... Yes. Yeah.
Yeah.
They were all very buddy, buddy.
Good luck. Fill us in when it's all over, huh?
Yeah. See you or not.
I wanted to, like, elbow them this morning and be like,
"Guys. Like, you realize these are your competitors, right?"
Boys and girls, better put your big boy pants on,
because things are about to start
to get real heated out here.
And, you know, people like me and Patrick
are gonna come in and destroy you.
I don't want him to take one of us out.
I respect you guys enough that, like,
I want us to take each other out.
-Yeah. -You know what I mean?
Jeff plays dirty.
And I just don't like conniving and scheming.
That's now how I roll.
There's a certain amount of honor and pride in that.
Yup.
It just feels better this way.
-Absolutely. -Right.
That this honestly feels right.
-It's more honorable. -Yeah. Yeah.
Agreed.
That's a lot of fish.
Today, Trish and I bring a nice cache of fish back
more than I realized.
-Good job. Good job -That's a lot of fish.
And so I think the fish could easily be shared.
Want to give some to the other camp?
Let's just give these.
-Oh, okay. Perfect. -We have two for...
Yeah. Two for each person.
-Perfect. -Oh, there we go.
-Well done. -Love it.
Which camp are we giving the two?
These guys.
Dan wants to give the fish exclusively to Ky,
Darrin, and Bulent.
The competition starts to heat up a little bit.
They were second.
Giving them two fish each
is still just like a gesture.
It's not actually we're trying to like... It is. It is.
We beat them at their best
and that's what I wanna do in this competition.
So I'm happy to share with other people.
If I realize they're not sharing with me
and they're trying to hoard it all for example,
I'll adjust accordingly.
I'm not gonna be naïve.
We have an agreement already with that team
for 50% of their kills with the bow
we traded for an egg and that promise.
And I haven't seen any food come across the table.
Yeah. This way.
But I didn't wanna argue
and I didn't wanna make it a point of contention
amongst us, so I let it go.
Age has taught me pick and choose
your arguments and think ahead.
Nobody's home.
I got to put them right here where they can't miss them.
They'll be back soon enough.
It's a chess match.
Oh. You'll make a little note?
It's all just a gamble
on which way you move your piece.
I love it.
I think they'll be able to read that.
Our biggest challenge is how to get
a freaking decent meal right now.
Our entire purpose today is to catch a fish.
Here fishy, fishy, fishy.
We had a pretty low-end energy.
We haven't find much to eat other than the eggs.
Oh, there's some movement on your line.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Come on Uh-oh.
There it goes.
There it goes.
I think this is definitely a fish.
Dude, go.
Let's go, man.
Just give it one tag.
Yes.
Yes. Look at that.
Yup.
Oh, my God.
-Amazing. -Look at this Don't you let that go.
Four or five pounds of awesome catfish.
Oh, dude. I'm so excited.
Hell, yeah.
Yeah.
Catching this fish is so significant for our team.
Dude, look at this it got eggs.
A big old egg sac.
Do you want me to start a fire?
That would be nice.
It's such a huge win.
Our bodies are just depleting right now
and this protein is gonna help us
get to the next challenge.
I'm so happy about this you guys.
We just built a fire right there on the shore.
And slap that fish next to the fire.
We don't care about dirt.
We don't care about ash.
This the crudest way
I have ever cooked a fish in my life.
We are eating this fish right now.
Have some fish.
Get in my belly.
Our first big meal here in Africa.
It is amazing.
This is the best you can ask for.
Look at all that meat.
-Look at that. -Wow.
Probably the biggest protein
as far as anyone's had out here.
That could be the different between us
winning the next challenge.
Good job, team.
Shades tree, we're home.
Oh, wow.
What?
I think someone came and visited.
Aw.
Oh, that's cute.
Yeah.
We got good neighbors.
-We do. -Yeah.
Should we go and give them back?
We'll just say we got some fish today.
No. You don't have to tell anything.
We got to take their fish back.
Receive a gift and give it back.
I said this to my team not to return the fish
because survival is a marathon, so we are depleting
quite fast resources, dry out pretty quickly.
Whatever we get, we have to keep.
I'm gonna take it back.
As we go along, people's strategies are coming out.
I just have to play it smart.
So everything I do is deliberate
and I don't have to rely on anyone else.
Hello?
What's up? It's our neighbors.
We're gonna have to thank you,
but refuse your wondrous gift today.
Of course.
We got fish ourselves.
-Oh, you did? -Yeah.
-Oh, good. -But thank you so much.
Good. You got... You got lot of catfish over there?
We didn't wanna waste anyone.
We got more meat on one catfish then.
-Oh, okay. -Yeah.
I'm shocked.
I can't imagine why anybody would return free food.
Yeah.
You can't trust anybody's intentions out here.
Well, enjoy your night.
And we shall see you tomorrow.
-Yes. -Thank you.
See you tomorrow.
I'm not really thrilled with my teammates.
So what did they say, bro?
They said thanks.
See, I was gonna stop you guys
then I said maybe it's not my place.
Every action you're doing have a reaction, right?
-Yup. -Mmm-hmm?
I mean, what is the message you're sending?
We said, you know, we really, really appreciate it.
Thank you. And it was a lovely thing to come home to.
I think that I would have felt worse
'cause I wouldn't have eaten those fish
and they would've gone to waste and any food out here.
I think I would've eaten all of 'em.
Do you want us to go and get them back for you?
See, to me, you have food, you shut up and eat
'cause you don't know what tomorrow's gonna bring.
All right, Bulent. Next time we'll keep the fish
and you can eat them all.
Time to pack up.
-Yeah. -Yup.
Time to put the friendship aside.
We're gonna fight in this thing and stay in this game.
It is nerve-wracking.
We don't know what we're gonna need,
so you might as be well be geared up.
I would've given myself high odds
to be the last one standing,
but I know how this game works.
This may be the last time I put this thing on.
It only takes one little slip up to say bye-bye.
Whoever's eliminated, we're all in agreement.
We're leaving everything for each other, right?
Yeah. I'll leave everything.
We wanna just set each other up...
-Leave everything. -For success whoever's here.
You can go kick everybody else's butt.
It's unfortunate that we're going up against each other.
But we're here to fight.
Take one last look around, guys.
For one of us, this is it.
This is last one standing.
There's only one winner at the end.
This day was inevitable that we would have
to compete against one another.
It has not been easy for me here, whatsoever.
But I'm still gonna aim to be the last one standing.
Gary, Lindsey, and Dani must return to the baobab tree
to receive instructions
and begin their elimination challenge.
Hmm.
Wow.
Today, one of you will be eliminated.
Each survivalist must build a cooking tripod
strong enough to suspend a full pot of water.
Gary, Dani, and Lindsey
must each bushcraft their tripod
with a suspended J-hook
and build a fire hot enough to boil a pot of water.
In primitive survival, balancing a boiling water pot
directly on top hot coals can lead this build.
A well-built tripod
keeps the boiling water off the coals and stable.
Those who boil their pot of water fastest
will return to camp.
The last survivalist to complete this task
will be extracted immediately.
Wooh.
Your challenge starts now.
We're gonna fight to stay in Africa
to be the last one standing.
Oh, my gosh.
Your challenge starts now.
Is this wide enough?
That circle is really big.
Our elimination challenge is to build
a tripod and a suspended J-hook...
that will boil water.
I'm a competitor and I'm super competitive.
I'm here to do a job and there's no losing.
Okay.
I build tripods.
It's something I've done before.
My strategy for the tripod is purely speed
and something that simply holds it up.
As long as it's three legs, I use a whole base of a tree.
Rough and ready.
I just found something that looked long enough.
When a pot of water is added
to the J-hook, the tripod distributes its weight evenly
causing the structure to be more stable.
But to confirm a properly built structure,
competitors must be able to remove and replace
their water under the tripod
without spilling in order to complete the challenge.
Building a tripod to boil water,
I've done that plenty of times.
I'm looking for good tinder, I'm looking for firewood.
I'm looking for a stable and secure tripod.
Tying a tripod together right now.
Wrap the string around and then extend it
and it'll be used to hang the J-hook.
The J-hook, I actually look for a branch
with a hook on the bottom, hook on the top.
I'm just gonna bring it all
and I'll rethink when I got over there.
I'm good with fire.
I've learned to get a tinder bundle
and when the flame kicks up off the tinder bundle,
sprinkle the fuel on so there's oxygen and fuel.
Fire loves chaos.
So far, it's coming together good.
I think that my knot tying will be useful.
I'm just hoping that I can be speedy.
I see I'm doing good.
I feel like I'm ahead.
We're good.
Just working on my fire.
Tinder is not fine enough.
It's also hard when your hands are sweating.
I'm feeling good.
My water's starting to bubble.
I'm just trying to get my fire started.
I need the tinder to catch.
There we go. There we go.
It's a boil.
So I take it off without spilling it.
While the water is boiling,
Gary's place in the competition
isn't secure until he moves the boiling pot to the ground
and then returns it to the tripod without spilling.
Yeah.
I'm safe and I get to stay
and I get to fight for that money.
-Good job, Gary. -Good job, Gary.
-Thank you, girls. -Good job.
Hey. Kick ass, man. Go for it.
I'll be happy to be with either one of you.
This challenge, it's hard to do what I did fast.
I'm undeniably a threat to win $100,000
and I'm gonna continue battling
from challenge to challenge
in hopes that I'll be the last one standing.
I'm cheering both of you on.
Just working on my fire.
I have my J ready to go.
I just gotta get this baby raging.
The part I'm most nervous about is making the hook.
I've never made a hook for a tripod before.
Nobody wants to get a third degree burn
from boiling water,
so I'm a bit nervous about doing that.
Okay.
Contend that.
See if I could do this at the same time.
It's gonna burn my J-hook.
Damp this baby down a little bit.
Simmer down now.
Watching them toil right now, it's tough.
But one of them is gonna get it
and one of them isn't.
And I can't even tell you which one right now.
They're two tough women.
You're in the game.
It's just a delicate balance
between having it hit the pot and not burn...
I've been like the bottom dog.
Lindsey is a lot more athletic than me.
I'm mentally preparing to accept my fate
of being eliminated, but I just give it everything.
That's the only way I'd be able to go out.
Oh, no.
You're having trouble with the hook?
Yeah. My pot fell off.
No time for mistakes.
This is a race between myself and Lindsey.
Wow, this is so ridiculous.
Oh!
This is insane to watch.
The girls are neck and neck.
You both are kicking.
They're both amazing.
They're both awesome survivalists
and here they are battling against each other
to be the last one standing.
Please boil.
It's a little bit warm
but it's not anywhere close to boiling.
Dani, you're looking really good.
I don't know.
It's all about taking it off and putting it back on.
Oh, now it's a boil.
Oh, Dani's ready to take hers off.
I'm not even close.
Two of us are staying and one of us is leaving.
And it's all about that balancing act over fire.
Oh,
so close.
There's one right there.
There's one right there.
Come with me, Trish. Come with me, Trish.
Killing that tree.
For this competition,
the PSR, or primitive survival rating,
weighs an individual's survival skills
and items collected to determine
the likelihood of becoming the last one standing.
Caveman In the primitive axe challenge,
Dan's strength and speed helped him and his camp mates
earn a first place victory, plus a Pulaski tool.
Oh my God, we're first.
But a cut on his hand... That is brutal.
requiring six stitches
could hurt his chances of becoming
the last one standing,
dropping his PSR from 9.7 to 9.5.
We're gonna make like three or four
nice axes and win this challenge.
Darrin didn't win the challenge.
That's it. That's the bit.
That's the bit.
But proved to be the competition's best flint knapper.
Yeah, buddy.
He also pulled in one of the biggest
protein scores to date,
increasing his PSR from 8.8 to 9.0.
Gary's primitive axes could not stand up to the test.
Dammit.
Forcing his camp into an elimination battle.
I'm feeling good.
My water is starting to bubble.
Where he was the first to secure
his place in the competition.
Yeah.
As a result, Gary's PSR remains steady at 9.2.
Oh, God.
Oh, so close.

Now it's a boil.
It's all about taking it off and putting it back on.
Oh, God.
Oh, shoot.
I'm safe from going home.
And now, the girls are fighting to not be eliminated.
So close.
It sucks to be so close
and then you have to start from scratch.
So my really high pot still stands a chance.
I'm having to really build my flame up a lot
for it to even get to the pot.
Ouch.
- Oh, -Damn.
Agh.
I need to build a new tripod.
Survival is all about problem solving.
Sometimes you have to just keep up the good fight,
stay calm, and just reconstruct.
If you have to start from scratch,
you start from scratch.
Nice.
That's pretty cool, D.
This is so tiring.
I feel broken down.
I'm tired. I'm exhausted.
I'm hungry and thirsty.
My muscles are weak but it's, like, that instinct
that you have when you're at rock bottom
and you just tell yourself when you wanna sit down,
just keep going.
It boils down to this
whoever makes the best balanced pot.
And I see them both struggling with the hook,
how they're gonna work that hook.
Because at that point,
you're rock solid from there out.
It's down to the patience of the proper J.
Branch with a hook on the bottom, a hook on the top.
The one that can just take their time
and get the best one.
It's the answer.
I'm still a little bit nervous about my J-hook.
These ladies are kicking butt.
I feel like my hook might be strong enough.
I just gotta get this baby raging.
You're both gonna get a boil.
You got a rolling boil.
Oh, God.
Yes.
Oh.
Something so simple is, like, so hard.
None of these challenges are easy.
One little mistake can ruin everything.
What a fight.
I can't even keep myself, like, calm.
Neck and neck.
Holy crap.
The wind's picking up.
I'm just hoping the fire stays where I want it to.
It's like I don't wanna build it up too much higher
'cause I don't want my tripod to catch.
Yeah.
I'm starving, dehydrated, tired, weak.
But there's still a fight inside of me
and I didn't come here to leave early.
I came here to make it to the end.
And I'm not ready to go home.
I'm getting no bubbles. Not yet.
I'm getting a burned wooden tripod.
This is where I have to focus.
I just have to be extremely careful.
Like, every centimeter of movement matters.
Oh, that fire is hot.
Oh, no.
Oh, my leg.
No.
Oh, come on.
It's burning straight through.
It's a matter of minutes, seconds.
Matter of seconds.
Oh,
I'm so nervous about it spilling again.
Wind, please don't shift.
Oh, my God.
I'm afraid to look at it.
-Dani, you did it. -Yeah, you did it.
I'm so relieved and happy and proud of myself.
I just told myself I have to keep moving.
I'm here to fight the fight and make it to the end.
But knowing that we're losing
a very valuable teammate, I just broke down.
Wow.
It's so hard to be happy, you know.
Nice job. No, it's okay.
That was tough.
Oh, my God.
I'm gonna miss Lindsey so much.
Good job.
She brought a lot to our team.
She really balanced us out.
We fought till the end.
I left it all out there.
Dani did too.
I mean, we really fought until the very end.
It's getting dark.
A hide to keep you warm.
-Thank you. -Thank you.
That's really nice of you to leave your resources for us.
Of course. I wanna see you guys, day 45.
I love you, guys.
I may not be last one standing
but I was in there neck and neck with everybody,
every single challenge.
I have to go home and, you know, that's a bummer.
$100,000 would be awesome.
Whoever stays out here the longest
will deserve to win that.
This is my first time leaving before everybody else.
Yeah, it feels weird.
Lindsey is the fourth person to exit the challenge.
Only 10 competitors remain.
I offered to take one of their places
in today's elimination challenge
in exchange for a bow.
I don't know who is gonna come back
from that elimination challenge
and who's going home today,
but what I can tell you is that whoever goes home,
I promise you,
my offer is gonna haunt their nightmares forever.
Being a competitor
is about being the best of the best.
And I gave it my all and I left it all here.
One more chess piece off the board
and one step closer to $100,000.
