[Episode 28]

Tan Xuanlin.

A telegraph from Xu Bojun.

He hopes that we can help him kill Tan Xuanlin.[Confidential Telegraph]

And he offers a generous reward.

This business is really a good deal.

Thank you.

Marshal, you look like a teacher dressed like this.

Did you know?

When I was young, I earned my rank through passing exams.

If I chose to be teacher that time,

my life would have been more stable and comfortable than it is now.

Since ancient times, talented people have been ambitious.

You're meant to be somebody.

Whether I can get back to the top or not depends on you.

Military Governor Xu, as long as you keep your promise,

I will help you no matter what it takes.

Don't worry, Mr. Yamashita.

When Tan Xuanlin is dead, I'll ask my men to take over Shanghai.

At that time, everything in the Mu Family

will be yours.

Don't worry, Military Governor Xu.

We're determined to make that happen.

Mr. Yamashita, don't underestimate your enemy.

Now, Tan Xuanlin and Mu Wanqing are preparing for their marriage.

One of them has the guns.

One of them has the money.

If Tan Xuanlin and the Mu Family work together,

it will be difficult to handle Tan Xuanlin then.

Don't worry, Marshal.

We have our own plan.

[IN MEMORY OF MU ZHI YUAN]

[Always Remember]

Sister.

Wanqing, After hearing

the news of your father's death,

I rushed back in a hurry.

I didn't tell you in advance.

You won't blame me, will you?

Of course not.

My life in Hong Kong is good.

Thank you for your help, Commander Tan.

Thank you.

You're welcome.

I made this promise to your real father.

Wanqing, can I take a look at the room I used to live in?

Of course.

If you like the furniture,

I can send them to your place.

Don't bother. I just want to take a look.

The past has passed.

You can tell me whatever you need in the future.

You and Commander Tan are getting married, right?

Yes.

Congratulations.

Now that you have paid your respects to Uncle Mu,

how about I take you home now?

I have some photos of my mother here.

I want to take them back with me.

Okay.

Speaking of her, she's a poor woman.

After all, she didn't know what Cui Lianfeng did.

So Cui Lianfeng paid the price with her life.

But she just lost her status.

Considering the vicious methods she used against you,

her current situation isn't even a punishment.

She's not worthy of being pitied.

Your heart is so cold.

I won't let go of anyone who hurt you.

What are you looking at?

Looking at the photos of your childhood.

You were so cute.

By the way,

did you notice that Mu Wanting came back this time as a different person?

She lost all her noble lady's temper.

She's keeping a low profile now.

A leopard cannot change its spots.

I think she can't change her nature in such a short time.

You should be careful.

Don't worry. I'm here.

No one can hurt you.

This…

is this Xu Guangyao?

This was taken when he was ten years old.

When he came to my house as a guest.

He knew who you were since he was ten, right?

No.

He was probably nine years old.

Knowing you earlier won't help.

You're still mine.

Then why are you jealous?

- Who's jealous?- You.

I…

Well…He knew you for more than a decade.

I just knew you for a few months.

He should be the jealous one.

But

we haven't taken a photo together like this one.

After we get married, we can do that at any time.

From the time we are young until the time we are old.

And we'll have our children and grandchildren.

We'll take a family photo every year. Okay?

Okay!

We will record every moment in this lifetime.

Okay?

My lady.

My lady, there are some files in Master's study room.

I don't know which ones should be kept and which should be thrown away.

How about you take a look?

I'll be right there.

Yes.

- Sorry, excuse me.- Okay.

Commander Tan.

Uncle Fang.

About this. When did Mr. Mu take this photo with them?

He took this photo when he escorted the goods

and hired the Belarusian Foreign Gun Brigade.

Belarusian Foreign Gun Brigade?

Mr. Mu's hired foreigners before?

Master heard that the Foreign Gun Brigade's shooting skills were pretty good.

One of them can go against four or five gunmen.

During those days, people were suffering from wars and horse bandits.

Finding some capable soldiers would make everything safe.

What shooting skills are so magical?

- Were those foreigners exaggerating? - They were not exaggerating.

The foreigners' bullets were particularly powerful.

Those were explosive shells.

If you were shot, half of your body would be gone.

This is the bullet taken from your father's wound.

I kept it all these years.

Maybe you could use it.

Explosive shells?

Commander Tan, do you have anything else?

Uncle Fang, which road did Mr. Mu take?

- It must've been a dangerous road.- A decade ago,

Military Governor Luo and Xu Bojun were at war.

Master escorted Xu Bojun's military supplies back to Shanghai.

After he arrived at Jiangpu, he couldn't move forward.

The two armies began to fight on the river.

Master had no other option.

So he went ashore from Jiangpu and took a land route.

Fortunately, he hired he Foreign Gun Brigade.

Jiangpu is not far ahead. You camp here and take a rest.

When Lin'er recovers, you can set out.

I'll escort supplies with Yu'er first.

Yes, sir.

Uncle Fang, I have something to do. I'm leaving now.

Go back to the Command.

Where is Xuanlin?

Commander Tan left. He said it was an emergency.

Why was he in such a hurry? He didn't even say goodbye.

Yes.

- What about this? - Put it away.

[The Sincere Co. Ltd]

Were those foreigners bragging?

They were not exaggerating.

The foreigners' bullets were particularly powerful.

Those were explosive shells.

If you were shot, halfof your body would be gone.

Tan Si, LICHA Hotel.

Okay.

Thank you.

You don't look so well.

Did you get tired after dealing withBoss Mu's death recently?

I'm fine.

You forced Xu Bo Jun to get dismissedafter solving that old Mu Family case.

He'll never let you go.

You should be careful.

I was negligent.

However, I almost found Xu Bo Jun when he was in disguise.

It won't be easy if hewants to do something to me.

That's good.

Mr. Liao.

I came to your place in such a hurry.

Actually…

Actually there is a private matter, and I want to ask you for help.

Come on!

Just tell me what you need.

I know that you know a lot of peoplein the Embassy District.

Have you heard of

the Belarusian Foreign Gun Brigade?

Belarusian Foreign Gun Brigade?

Yes.

Their shooting skills are pretty good.

And they were well-knownmore than a decade ago.

They earned commissions by protecting businessmen.

After the Russian October Revolution,

some Russian officers fled to China.

Some of them did return to do their old jobs to make a living.

Why do you ask that?

Uncle Mu had hiredthe Belarusian Foreign Gun Brigade once before.

The bullets they used were explosive shells.

Coincidentally,

they went to Jiangpu at the same time as my father.

I understand.

But Xuan Lin.

There are many coincidences in the world.

Maybe

it's not what you think.

You're right. I wish it's a coincidence.

But Mr. Liao, I just found out about it.

I'm so confused right now.I don't know who I should talk to.

So I came to you.

Don't worry.

If those people are still alive,

I will definitely help you find them.

Thank you, Mr. Liao.

Then I won't bother you.

Thank you.

Xuan Lin.

I also want you to help me on one thing.

What is it?

You came to Shanghai. You can tell me everything you need.

I got a batch of arms atthe Beijing Embassy.

Now these arms have beenloaded on a British cargo ship.

But those Britons are afraid of death and are unwilling to shipthem to the front line.

They can only ship them to Shanghai.

I want to ask you for help to transit this batch of arms in Shanghai

and ship them to Guangzhou.

That won't be a problem.

I now basically control Shanghai.

In the future, if you transport arms and medicine,

you can transit directly through Shanghai.

Did Commander Tan call this afternoon?

Please call the Command.

Hold on, please.

Commander, won't you have dinner with Miss Mu?

No.

Why not?

Let's go back.

Okay.

I asked Alyosha to inquire this.

Sergey Onegin was a Russian soldier who fled to China.

He participated in the Russo-Japanese War and he was a famous sharpshooter.

- Guard the door.- Yes, sir.

This is Commander Tan.

He wants to know which bigwigs you have protected.

Has there ever been a danger?

Do you have enough experience to be a Commander's bodyguard.

I've protected many important people, including Mr. Du from Guangdong,

Commander Zhan from Shandong,

and Mr. Mu, president of the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce,

over the past 10 years.

He said he had beenin China for more than ten years.

He has protected many business bigwigs,

including Mr. Du from Guangdong, Commander Zhan from Shandong,

and Mr. Mu, president ofthe Shanghai Chamber of Commerce.

I'm not interested in the first two.

Tell me how you protected Mr. Mu.

When we landed from Jiangpu, we found another team of soldiers.

Mr. Mu recognized that it was Warlord Luo's army, but Mr. Mu was escortingWarlord Xu's supplies.

He said when they landed from Jiangpu,

they found another team of soldiers.

Mr. Mu recognized thatit was Warlord Luo's army.

But Mr. Mu was escorting Warlord Xu's supplies.

So they began to fight.

They're enemies of each other.

For their safety, Mr. Mu ordered them to shoot those soldiers when they...

entered the valley in formation.

No one survived.

Commander!

Father!

Father!

Father!

We shot them.

Father!

We shot them.

- Big brother!- We shot them.

Big brother!

Big brother!

Father.

It's me.

Mr. Liao? Am I dreaming?

Your heart is beating very fast.

Commander. You really scared us.

You kept yellingthe old Commander in your dream.

It was a dream.

I was dreaming about the Russian saying they took the shot.

It turned out that it was not a dream.

Commander. Miss Mu just called.

Tell her I'm busy.

No one can disturb me.

But Mu's Mansion is preparing for your wedding.

She called just for…

Let me rest.

- You may leave now. - Commander.

Leave me alone!

Go.

Mr. Liao. What did that foreigner say to the Commander?

Your Commander encountered the biggestsetback in his life.

What happened, Mr. Liao?

There has been something wrongwith the Commander since he came back.

Just leave him alone.

If he wants to speak, he will naturally tell you.

Okay. It looks so beautiful.

Miss Mu. This wedding dress suits you very well.

The waist canbe tightened by another inch which will make the curves look better.

Okay.

Miss Gu,

are there any actors in your company about the same height as Xuan Lin?

Why do you ask about this?

You'll be the Commander'swife in a few days.

Are you still thinking of male stars?

I'm not.

Today, we're going to try on the dress but I don't know where he is.

I called the Command but no one answered.

I want to find someoneto try on it for him.

That's strange.

My little uncle promised you, and he never breaks promises.

Yes.

Xu Bo Jun usedto pay attention to him every day,

and he would not breaka promise no matter what.

What's going on?

It's okay. Don't think too much.

Maybe he was delayed by something.

I don't worry about that.

I worry that he's keepingsomething from me.

Why don't you just ask him?

He said I should trusthim without any condition.

If I ask him, it will make me look like I'm fussing.

- How about…- And there.

I go to see him for you? I'll see what's he doing now.

That would be great. You ask him for me.

Is he in a bad mood?

Okay. Usually when he is in a bad mood,

he either sleeps in the Command or he goes to the shooting range.

Let me see what's going on. Don't worry.

Miss Gu. Junior Marshal Su is back. He wants to see you.

He's back in Shanghai now?

Excuse me.

You're back!

♫ If the rainbowis the reflection of the sky ♫

Why do you salute me?

I'm a soldier who has been on the battlefield and has seen life and death.

I'm giving a salute to the woman I like. It's not against the law, right?

When did you come back? Did you get hurt?

What?

Worried for me?

It was written in the newspapers that you, the Junior Marshal Su, broke into

the barracks alone to mediate for the Pei and Mu Family.

I didn't know that you were quite capable.

Are you still the master I know?

It never rains but it pours.

You really scared me! The battlefield is very dangerous.

If anything happens to you…

♫ Your promise make my heartfeel like scudding clouds ♫

♫ In your eyesI'm a cloudless day of sunshine ♫

There's no "if"

I told you my most precious treasure was here,

and I would come back.

♫ You're standing behind me ♫

So you came back for your treasure.

I didn't bring it today.

I'll give it to you next time.

I won't take it.

You can keep it forever. Okay?

♫ In your eyesI am the hasty scenery ♫

♫ I've tried my bestto make a good story ♫

♫ But you never stop for me ♫

I have something urgentto do. I'm leaving.

You didn't answer me.

I'll wait for you downstairsof your house tonight.

Remember to give me an answer.

Commander. You should take a break.

You've fired hundreds of bullets.

Miss Shuang. Can you persuade him?

He doesn't listen to me.

Okay.

I was going to see you in the Command. But no one knew where you were.

I guessed you must be inthe shooting range.

How was that?

Although I only touched the gun when I was fighting with you when I was a child,

I haven't used a gun for so many years.

I'm still good at it, right?

Little Uncle, wait.

What happened between you and Miss Mu?

You're getting married. What's wrong with you?

Is she all right?

Of course not.

She thought you deliberately avoided her.

Women tend to become sensitive when they get married.

And you treat her like this. She can't be all right.

Shuang, you tell me…

Never mind. You can't help me.

Commander!

You just shot without any words, and now you drink wine without any words.

Please say something to me, Little Uncle.

I don't know how to say this.

After all these years, I never saw you drunk like this.

What happened exactly to make you like this?

Shuang.

Do you know what God did?

He gave me a piece of cake

but mixed it with white arsenic.

You tell me.

Should I eat it or not?

What cake? What white arsenic?

What do you mean?

[DANCE HALL]

Be careful. Slow down.

Watch the steps.

Usually when he is in a bad mood,

he is either sleeping in the Command

or he is at the shooting range.

Let me see what's going on.

Prepare a car and go to the Command.

I know you don't feel good.

But Wan Qing. I don't feel good either.

I don't know how to face you.

I thought

no matter what difficulty we encounter,

we could fix it together.

Little Uncle. You're drunk.

I have thought aboutcountless possibilities.

Ignore all the problems to be with you.

But every time I think of this,

my heart hurts.

Little Uncle. From childhood to adulthood,

you've been the mostimportant person in my life,

and you were all I cared about.

I really thought before that I

would be by your side like this in this lifetime.

But now, you have Miss Mu.

This is the first time I've seen

you get drunk like this for a woman.

You must love her very much.

You two are a good match.

You must treat her well in the future.

Miss Shuang. Junior Marshal Su is here.

He's eager to see you downstairs.

Okay, I'll be right there.

[THE DEFENSE COMMAND OF SHANGHAI]

I'm sorry. I was too busy to forget that you asked me out tonight.

You said you had somethingurgent this afternoon.

You meant playing and drinking with Tan Xuan Lin?

What are you talking about?

My little uncle is not such a person.

Neither am I.

Do you think everyone is the same as you?

Same as me? He doesn't deserve it.

At least I can't get entangled with other woman when I'm getting married.

And I can't ignore your reputation to stay with him alone.

He is my little uncle. We're family.

We are not like what you think.

Family?

His family name is Tan.

Your family name is Gu.

How could you be family?

Come here.

You call Tan Xuan Lin out now!

- You… - I'm going to ask him

why he decided to mess with my woman

when he is aboutto marry Mu Wan Qing?

- You get down here! - You…

Well… Who said I'm your woman?

You said so, but I didn't admit it.

You hugged me and took my necklace.

Now you tell me you don't admit it?

I…

You wanted to hug me, and you gave the necklace to me.

Why would I admit it?

You!

You just can't leave Tan Xuan Lin, right?

I really love you, but you don't care at all.

You want to have an affairwith him, a married man?

You came just in time.

I'm telling you, you should take care of your fiancé who is a philanderer!

[THE COMMANDER'S OFFICE]

Miss Shuang. Commander was really drunk this time and even spit out bile.

It's fine. I'll take care of him.

Little Uncle. You're awake.

[THE FIREARMS ROOM]

Miss Mu. Well. Our Commander is already asleep.

You can see him tomorrow.

Miss Mu.

Miss Mu.
