Original subtitles

Well, I guess we could get right to studying.

Yeah.

We studied so perfectly for our chemistry, and now we have biology.

I know, I got an A.

I got a B, but almost as good as an A. My mom was still happy. Yeah, I know.

So you want to start with biology?

Yeah, let's do biology first, since it's easy.

So did you read the chapter already?

Yeah, I've already read it. I took notes. Let me see if I have them.

Oh crap, I dropped my notes. Oh, it's okay. I have my notes. Okay, cool.

Perfect.

Oh yeah, you've already done this whole chapter. Yeah.

So I'm a little bit prepared.

Okay, so this is like pretty much all the practice test right here.

So it's going to be pretty much the same thing on the test. We've pretty much got

this in the bag then, to be honest.

Yeah, I know.

Oh, look at that.

That looks like the guy in biology.

It does, huh?

So you got number four already?

Um, I don't know. I just... Yeah, you don't remember? I don't know what

questions I did and didn't get right, but on the practice test I did okay.

That's okay. Well, we can go over the whole thing tonight.

Okay, perfect.

Is your dad here, or what time does he get back?

Yeah, my dad's actually here right now, so it's just me and him here.

All the time? He's like a house dad?

Yeah, he's like a house dad, I'd say.

That's pretty cool. Yeah, my mom left when I was younger, so just me and him.

Well, that's good that he stepped up to the plate and everything.

Yeah, he's really nice. He always does pretty much everything for me.

Maybe he should do our homework.

Maybe. He's going to fail us.

Maybe you should ask him.

So, are you going to Becky's party next weekend?

What party?

Um, oh, I guess you haven't heard about it.

It's on Saturday.

Um... Hey. Hi.

Hey, Dad.

Hey, Lily.

This is Zoe.

Hi, how are you? Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. How are you? I thought I

heard voices.

Heard a lot about you.

I did.

Good things.

Good things. You should be nice about me, Lily. Of course.

Of course, Deb.

We're just in here getting ready for our quiz.

Oh, quiz. I used to love quizzes at school.

Yeah, it's biology.

Oh, I like biology. I wasn't very good at it, but I liked it. Oh, you know I'm

good at biology.

Yeah, she has all the notes.

Whatever.

So, you're new? Because I've never seen you before. You just met? Yeah, I just

moved from Texas.

Oh, Texas.

Yeah, so I just live about 10 minutes down the road.

Oh, cool.

Well, welcome to...

Thank you.

Thanks.

I really like our new school and everything and I just made a new friend,

so I'm doing pretty good. Oh, so how long have you known each other? Are you

classmates? I just started school here like a week ago. Oh, you're very new.

Yeah.

I just had my first quiz. You have a study partner. I know. I'm so happy.

That's wonderful.

I don't have any friends.

Yeah, but I see more of you here then because she needs a study partner.

Yeah, we can definitely keep this going.

Yeah, we should.

That's wonderful.

So, you're obviously from Texas, but your mom and dad are still together?

Yeah, they're married. Oh, because I'm divorced. I don't know if she mentioned

that. Oh, so you're just a stay-at-home dad?

Yeah, you could call me that. The best dad.

I like to cook, so. You do all the cooking. Can't you tell?

Be quiet.

I think she looks great.

Oh, no, she looks good. I said puppy fat.

Yeah, it smelled like barbecue in here. That's why I was like, it's crazy.

She's got a good nose. Yeah, I'm barbecue-ing. Actually,

why don't you stay for dinner?

Yeah, though.

Could you? I mean, I could call my parents. I'm sure they would be okay

with it.

Yeah, I can make, I can, as I said, we've got enough for three people

easily, so I've made quite a lot of ribs, so. Cool. It's not intruding. Come

on. Please, give them a call and, well, in fact, you know what? Why don't you

come into the, you know, help me set the table?

Okay. Yeah, of course, Dad.

Come on in.

He has the best cooking.

Oh, they're going to love my ribs.

sit here, so.

Okay. Thank you for having me set up. No problem. Thank you guys so much for

having me over. It smells amazing.

My dad's a sweetheart, isn't he? He really is.

And it's cooking so good. Just wait till you try it.

I really can't wait.

Would you mind fetching the salad from the kitchen?

Sure. Just in there? Yeah. Just on the counter. Okay.

Hey, Dad.

Hey.

It looks delicious, doesn't it?

It's always delicious, my love.

I brought this garlic.

Oh, thank you very much.

Thank you so much for inviting me, guys.

No, thank you for staying.

I rarely have company.

I rarely have a family dinner, so.

Well, perfect.

I don't know what falls from the crop, do you?

It's terribly bad for you.

I know, but I mean, with my schedule, like I go to school all the time. I'm

such a hard studier.

She is too.

You've always got to find time to eat good food. Now, by the way, before I say

that, do you like it on the bone?

The bone is fine.

Dad, it looks so good.

Well. It's a wonder what you can do with your hands.

Had lots of practice.

Here we are. This is for you on the bone. And any particular piece you'd

like? No,

any one you think. Okay.

Serve yourself to the salad. Help yourself.

Thank you.

This is lovely.

So, obviously, you're in school. What's your favourite actual subject at school?

What are you good at?

Well, I play a lot of volleyball, so I really am more into the athletics and

sports.

Actually, I like sports as well, but you know what? You can't really make money

in sports unless you're extremely good. I don't know. Are you that good?

I mean, it's just more of a hobby.

You know, school is kind of boring, so I get to take my mind off of it. I

understand. But I'm good at pretty much every subject that I do. I make pretty

good grades, but my favorite thing to do is just bite the ball.

How did you guys actually meet?

We were in chemistry class together, and she needed a study buddy, so I said I

would come over and we could study together since I'm new, and I haven't

really made any friends.

Yeah, you're so smart, though. I'd love to have your help.

So whose idea was that? Was that yours, Lily?

Yeah. It still seems very friendly, so... I'm just happy to come over.

Well, we're happy to have you.

Thank you. We're happy. Well, tuck in.

Enjoy. Actually, I'm going to eat it the right way, with my hands.

Oh, it's good.

Courtney, you're going to love it.

Do you like meat, or are you kind of more of a vegetarian type of person? I

like meat.

Yeah?

I don't really know how to eat these, but... Just use your fingers.

Don't mind us. Let's get stuck in.

I mean, Lily doesn't. Look, she's straight in there.

Cooked so well.

I know.

These are really good. She was not lying.

I told you he could cook.

I've spent so much time at home, I have a lot of time to get good at cooking.

I've got a lot of cookery books and I spend a lot of time learning everything

when it comes to cooking.

How would you like the salad?

It's so good.

Crunchy, right?

It is. My parents never make food like this at home. Why?

That's ridiculous.

I mean, they're both, like, workaholics, so.

Well, you know, I used to be a workaholic, but I always found time to

cook for Lily, didn't I? Aw.

Yeah, you did, Dad.

You sound like a really good dad.

I try.

It's not easy, I'll tell you.

Mmm. I'm so happy you came, too.

Yeah, I know. I'm so happy you came over.

It's been a really good day.

Yeah, my dad keeps telling me that I need to find more study buddies, so here

you are. She does.

So much work and so much biology and all this stuff that I have to catch up on,

so I might have to be over here a lot.

That's great.

I mean, I remember when I was 18.

I hated school. I mean, I liked studying, but I just hated going to

school every day. It just drove me insane.

Come on, Dad.

Being 18 now isn't the same as being 18 in the Stone Ages when you grew up.

That's enough of that, young lady.

I'm not that old. Well, I am that old, but... It wasn't that bad when I was a

kid. Aw, you still look good for your age, Dad. No, we didn't have it as easy

as you guys do.

You guys have it very easy these days.

Aw.

Hey, what the hell?

Um, I don't know. It's getting pretty late, so I might have to head out pretty

soon. Yeah, it is really late out.

Actually, so why don't you stay? You look tired. It's super late. We have a

lot of work left to do. You might as well just stay the night.

Lily, I mean, if she doesn't want to stay, come on. We don't want to force

you. Oh, be quiet, Dad.

Come on. It'll be fun. We can watch a movie or something.

I mean, I guess we could get a lot of work out of the way, so... Yeah.

I guess you could. I mean, I don't have a problem with it.

Sure, you want to do that, and you must call your parents first. They'll make

sure they're okay. Yeah, I'll check with my parents, but as long as you guys can

give me a ride to school in the morning, then... Oh, no problem. No problem. I'll

be taking Lily, so of course I can take you too.

I guess I can stay then.

It's fun.

Settle then.

We'd love to have you.

Well, if you're not studying too late, I could always maybe bring you up some

cocoa.

Dad, that would be so good.

Oh, you're so thoughtful.

We'll probably be done at like eight or so.

Oh, okay. Yeah.

I'll make sure the cocoa's hot and ready for you then.

Yeah. Okay.

If you're about done, you guys can run upstairs and start studying. I can clear

all this up. Are you sure?

Of course.

That would be awesome.

It was so good. Just one more bite. No, one more bite.

She loves it. She loves it. It was so good.

There you go.

You're all good now. Off you go.

Yes.

Thank you.

Is he okay?

Hi.

Yes, we'd love to have you again.

I mean, I definitely have to ask my parents about that, but, you know, they

want me back, like, now, so thank you so much for...
