The Imperial DoctressEpisode 44

All the traditional herbal therapies and prescriptions are only intended for usage in this drama. Please do not test or imitate.

Physicians feel the same towards patients, as parents do to their children.

Yunxian. Before entering the Palace,

I planned to head to the Southern Palace to visit the retired Emperor.

But the eunuchs guarding the door said

that I need the Emperor's imperial edict

in order to enter the Southern Palace.

The South Palace is very desolate.

There is much talk among the people.

Yunxian,

are there any problems

between the Emperor and the retired Emperor?

Your Majesty.

Tell Cao Jixiang to block all the news

that is coming from the South Palace.

Also, no matter who Yunxian asks,

just say it is because the Crown Prince is suffering from measles,

which is why people cannot enter.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Have you seen your father?

I plan to grant him the title of Head of the Imperial Guards.

This way he can remain in the capital.

It'll be more convenient for you two to see each other.

Yunxian,

it looks like I can only confer you the title of consort.

I know this is painful for you,

but this is just a minor difference in title.

I will find a way to compensate you in every other area.

I'll just follow your arrangements.

Yunxian.

I know what's in your heart,

but...

Please just endure it for a few more days. For me.

Beautiful.

You haven't changed since the day I met you at Governor Xu's manor.

I've decided.

On the first day of the ninth lunar month, I will officially confer you the title of Noble Consort.

When the time comes, your ceremony will be as grand as that of an Empress.

All of the hundreds of officials will come.

I will not have them look down on you.

Yunxian?

Then will Qian jiejie and the rest be coming too?T/N: "-jiejie" is an endearing term used to address older females

Why do you always ask about them?

I wish to see Dingxiang.

Moreover, I don't know how the Crown Prince is recovering from measles.

Qiyu, will you let me leave the palace to see them?

See them?

I fear the one you wish to see is someone else.

Qiyu.

These days, you always ask about his matters.

Do you take me for a fool?

Qiyu, are you misunderstanding something again?

- You obviously know--- Don't say my name!

In the future, call me Your Majesty. Also,

stop repeating about the past.

Do you want everyone in the Palace to know

that you were living with another man for more than ten days without a clear purpose?

Living with another man

for more than ten days without a clear purpose?

If it wasn't like this,

how would a woman like me be able to return to the Capital?

Your Majesty,

so this is how you see me in your heart.

Yunxian! Yunxian!

Minister! Minister! What's wrong?

Minister! Wake up! Minister!

Minister! What's wrong?

Minister, wake up! Wake up!

I say, look at your temper! I just said a few words to you

and you turned away from me. Do you even think about me?

Who in the Inner Palace is as unbridled as you?

I have forgotten my manners. I deserve to die.

Your Majesty, please punish me by death.

Get up quickly.

Yunxian, don't be like this, all right?

All right. I was wrong. Okay? I shouldn't have said that about you.

When I heard that you threw up blood, I was so anxious.

What would you like for me to do for you?

It's because I really like you, care for you,

which is why I am sensitive about other people's opinions.

Yunxian, in the palace,

you must be careful about your every word and action.

Otherwise, even if I depose Lady Wang,

I cannot confer you the title of Empress.

You want to depose her?

Yes. I know that I'll be doing her wrong,

but even more so, I can't do you wrong.

Last time, her pregnancy was an accident.

It won't happen again.

Your Highness.

Duke Wang is extremely cruel and merciless.

Previously, the assassins after you when you returned

were planned by him and the Empress Dowager.

With a father like that,

how can I sire children with his daughter?

After that matter,

I added medicine (that would prevent her from becoming pregnant) to her food.

Why do you believe that Duke Wang sent assassins after me,

Yet you won't believe that the one who forced me to commit suicide that year

wasn't some maidservant of the Empress,

but the Empress herself?

Your Highness. Watch your health.

Personally tell all the eunuchs in this palace

that they never saw me come here.

If anyone spills the secret,

I will skin them alive.

Your Highness, these fruits have been soaked in holy basil water.

Many prostitutes use this as a contraceptive method.

I understand. You may leave.

Yes. I will also stay silent regarding this matter.

I went out of my way for him,

and even disregarded family ties.

In the end, I did all this for nothing.

So he had long planned to depose me.

Your Highness, the Emperor must have done this

after being beguiled by Lady Hang.

You're right. It's all because of that bitch.

I won't let her off easily.

I want her to experience the feeling of a living death.

You can't, Your Highness.

You must not be impulsive.

If the Emperor were to find out...

Do you think I'm that stupid?

It's not hard to kill her. However, I cannot

let the Emperor hate me,

and I can't let the Emperor continue to keep her in mind.

Your Highness, please use some tea.

Let me pass!

Which palace are you from?

- Let me go! - You cannot enter without permission.

- Let me pass! - You cannot enter!

- Get away!- You can't come in!

- What's wrong? - Move aside!

You are Physician Hang?

Which Palace are you from, momo?T/N: "-momo" is a term used to address older female servants

Why are you pretending to be a beautiful girl who looks ill? T/N: Describing a female who uses her illness to look even more charming.

Miss Hang, you had illicit sexual relations with the barbarians of Oirat.

You have lost your innocence, yet you still dare to enter the Palace and serve His Majesty?

You have committed serious treason.

- I am innocent. - Innocent?

- Then allow me to test her. - Yes.

- What are you doing?- Hold her for me!

- Let go!- Minister!

Our Minister is an Imperial Pharmacist of the sixth rank!

So what if she's a Imperial Pharmacist of the sixth rank? I am a noble lady of the third rank.

Minister! Minister!

- Let go!- Minister!

Keep her down.

Keep her down.

Stop!

Your Majesty! Your Majesty!

You had better go. I really can't stop the Empress Dowager.

When she saw the news from the spies, she immediately got so angry.

She immediately sent men to Wan'an Palace.

What secret report?

You had better not ask.

Saving Sister Hang is more important.

What are you doing? Let go of our Minister!

Don't move! Don't move!

If you guys come any closer, I will stab myself to death.

Then stab. If you die,

if you really die, then it will save me energy.

Momo, if something really happened to me,T/N: "-momo" is a term used to address older female servants

you really think that the Empress Dowager can save you?!

You shameless thing. I'll do as you wish today.

Let go of me! Minister!

Minister!

You're bleeding! Didn't you wish to die?

Miss Hang, you've lost virginity.

You committed a grave crime!

How do you have the nerve to continue living in this world?

You're still thinking of running? Weren't you thinking of dying?

- Minister!- I'll make your wish come true.

Miss Hang was lewd. After being found to have lost her virginity, she hanged herself due to shame. Didn't you want to die?

This time, your wish is granted.

Let go of me! Let go of me!

Won't you guys come and help?

Yunxian!

Summon the Imperial Phyisican immediately!

Summon the Imperial Physian! Quickly!

- What are you doing?- This is bee honey. Minister said that bee honey can stop bleeding.

Yunxian.

Your Majesty. How is Sister Hang?

She bled a lot. Right now, Shen Chun Xia is still inside trying to save her.

We don't know how it'll turn out.

Your Majesty. Your Highness.

Master Shen said that even thou Minister Hang bled a lot,

but good thing the bleeding was stopped in time. She's now out of danger.

Ahmitabha. If something happened to Sister Hang,

then I would have committed a serious crime.

Good thing you informed me in time. If I've come a little later...

You bitch!

Who gave you the guts?!

Your Majesty! Your Majesty! Spare me. It's got nothing to do with me.

It...

It's...the Noble Empress Dowager (Sun) who sent me here.

She said that she already knew that Minister Hang has lost her virginity at Oirat.

She's not a pure person.

so she asked me--

Lan Cao, slap her!

- Your Highness! - Slap again!

Your Majesty! You mustn't listen to her lies.

This thing involves the Empress Dowager. Sister Hang suffered such slander.

How can she continue to live here in the palace from now on?

How about letting the people of Eastern Depot...

No need to use the Eastern Depot.

Your Highness!

Minister Hang helped the Retired Emperor to return to the capital

Her merit is timeless. Whoever will slander her again,

I will have his life!

Minister Hang is awake!

Yunxian.

It's good that you're all right.

I am innocent.

I know.

It's all my fault for not being able to protect you. I was negligent.

Rest well.

Don't worry. I will surely settle the score with the Empress Dowager.

Reporting to Your Majesty, Empress Dowager contracted a cold.

She's already gone to bed.

I'm worried about Royal Mother and hope that I can see her.

Her Highness wants me to pass this to you.

She said it's a secret message sent by the Head of Da Tong.

Empress Dowager said that after Your Majesty sees this,

visiting her after several days will be fine.

I've confirmed that Ye Xian marrying Miss Hang is all true.

A lot of people can prove this. One time, when Ye Xian got severely ill

and close to death, Miss Hang intervened to cure him

and saved his life.

Your Majesty. You mustn't believe something like this.

A few days ago, my father heard from there

things that are way absurd than this.

There are things that are more absurd?

Tell me quickly.

Since you asked,

then so be it. A few days ago,

a fugitive that came from the Oirats said

They said that the Retired Emperor almost got his limbs torn

for fighting with Ye Xian for Sister Hang.

There were also those who said...that Sister Hang

has already become Ye Xian's wife.

But- But I won't believe this.

Your Majesty, I think

that as a woman, Sister Hang

wandered at Oirat alone for so long.

Being a able to come back unharmed

is already a blessing by the Heavens.

As for she having any relationships with others,

so what?

Don't you forget, it's already her second time

to travel so far for you.

I know.

Your Majesty.

I was afraid that Your Majesty will overthink

so I never dared to say much about Sister Hang's affairs.

However, now that things have come to this,

if I were to stay quiet,

I fear- I fear I would be going against my conscience.

After all, Little Sister Hang is the love of your life.

How can you still let her have a Lady Minister position and stay in the Palace?

Just a subject sending secret information can already humiliate her like that.

Even if you aren't hurt, even I feel sympathy for her.

I know that that you think I have other intentions

by saying these things,

but you are my sky.

Your Majesty's love of your life

is also the love of my life.

For Empress being able to think like that,

I'm greatly comforted.

Your Majesty, I remember

Empress Dowager previously promised you

that once Little Sister Hang can safely return,

you may confer her the title of consort.

I think that now's the time.

Once she already have this position, the people in the Palace won't be able to talk bad about her anymore.

Those rumors will naturally disappear.

I initially planned to do that by the ninth month.

Your Majesty, the sooner you confer the title to Sister Hang,

the sooner you can soothe her heart.

I know.

I'm thinking.

Lady, the head of Da Tong has already been fired by Your Majesty.

Tell her that she did very well this time.

As long as he can keep his mouth shut, I ensure him that he'll be promoted by three ranks after three years.

Yes.

Tell my Father that in his report to discuss the conferment of consort,

he must include all those rumors.

He must not leave a single detail.

After all, this is not wrongly accusing her.

Hang Yunxian, who told you to be such a flirt

even in Oirat.

Your Majesty, Miss Hang is virtuous and with good moral. Since there are already two Empress Dowager who agreed

to make her a noble consort, I'm boldly requesting

Your Majesty to make that decree soon.

No, no. You mustn't!

I've already known the thing about the Head of Da Tong.

This thing has already spread within the capital.

Better to believe that it's true than believing otherwise.

When Emperor Taizu of Song escorted Lady Jin for 1000 li (approx. 500km/300 miles).

Even Lady Jin knew to commit suicide just to prove her innocence (virginity).T/N: In the tale, Lady Jin's relatives wrongly believed she was impure after travelling for so long with a stranger.

Miss Hang fell to the hands of the Oirat

for almost a year already. Within those times, how many men did she encounter?

Even if she didn't lose her virginity to Ye Xian,

her dignity as a woman...if she gets to become a Noble Consort,

Your Majesty, then what morality will there still be for all women?

Your Majesty,

You shouldn't neglect government duties just because of a woman!

How dare you!

Duke Zhao, I think you're getting confused due to old age already!

I'm looking at the fact that you're already old so I won't argue with you anymore.

Xiao Ma'zi, hurry and ask people to escort Duke Zhao back to his house.

As you command.

Guards! Send Duke Zhao back to his residence.

Yes, Sir.

Your Majesty, I said that because I'm loyal to you.

Your Majesty, I said that because I'm loyal to you.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty. Originally, the Empress had me

propose appointing the consort

to spare you the trouble.

I thought at first that my standing would be able to reduce public censure.

I never thought...

Duke Zhao is being more and more useless.

Duke Wang, from this day on,

you'll get the position of Wenyuan Hall's Great Scholar.

Thank you for your kindness.

- Duke Wang.- Yes.

You're loyal to your master and also my father-in-law.

I still need to rely on you more in the future.

But Empress Dowager's actions recently...

don't know if you've already known about it?

I understand.

Your Majesty, don't get anxious.

Currently, the Ministry of Revenue is in my hands.

Though the Ministry of Defense has Yu Dongyang

and his loyalty is towards the Retired Emperor,

But he believes the Empress Dowager tried to assassinate the retired Emperor,

so he will surely follow after you.

And about Empress Dowager's trusted confidants,

these are only some nephews and nieces from the Sun Family.

Right now, they are all working under the Ministry of Works.

As long as some other time...

Good.

By then, I will give you the position Head of the Capital as your reward.

Your Majesty, I'm willing to risk my life

and promise to serve Your Majesty til death.

Promise to serve Your Majesty til death.

There really wasn't anything between Ye Xian and I.

Then what's the deal with those rumors?

When I was with the Oirats,

It was because I was close with Tubobuhua, Ye Xian's little Sister,

so someone got jealous. That's why they started to make false rumors.

But there really was nothing

between Ye Xian and I.

Were you married to Ye Xian?

If Your Majesty doesn't believe me,

you can have someone examine my body.

But in the end,

If I'm still a virgin,

then may Your Majesty allow me to be a nun.

You're forcing me.

I just asked a little so that I can understand it.

But then you said it like this?

Okay. I can believe that you are a virgin

but you yourself said that

you often stayed with the prisoners when you were with the Oirats.

All those prisoners were men.

Could it be

that Your Majesty wanted that I killed myself

on my first day of being caught?

I shouldn't have said that.

Don't take it seriously.

May Your Majesty allow me to become a nun.

Stop pushing me, will you?

All right. Rest well.

I will come by tomorrow.

Subbed and Timed by the Healing Team @ Viki. Please do not reuse or reupload our subtitles.

Pour me another cup.

Pour me another cup.

If Your Majesty wishes to drink, I won't stop you.

But you should drink less. You need to take care of your body.

This way...I can worry less as well.

Why have you come?

I brought some tea I brewed. It's good in cooling you down.

Does Your Majesty have a problem?

- You may leave.- Yes.

I also heard about Sister Hang's matter.

Your Majesty's words were too strict.

What woman who hears that would be happy?

But...Sister Hang was at fault too.

She should think for your sake.

The one who's having it hardest is you.

If Yunxian could understand me like you do,

I would be glad.

I've also been jealous before.

Has Your Majesty forgotten?

All right. You dressed me well.

- You have a reward.- What reward?

Bestowing you

a pair of couple's jade.

That's right. Liu Ping'an has said it.

That your body is a little cold.

You can stop eating those fairy fruit I gave you previously.

Eat something else.

I understand.

All right. Go quickly to court.

Your Highness. It looks like this time, His Majesty has really come around.

Come around?

That's enough.

Your Majesty. Someone from Wanan Palace reported

that Minister Hang had a high fever last night.

Why haven't they called for Chen Cunxia?

They already summoned Minister Chen last night.

Minister Hang's fever also just subsided a while ago.

I don't know if the situation is grave or not. So I went here to report it to Your Majesty.

Xiao Ma'zi.

After today's morning court, ask someone to come here to make a decree.

As you command.

Miss Hang is well-versed in moral teachings, amiable, graceful, modest, and obedient.

Today, you are conferred the title of Noble Consort.

Can continue staying at Wan An Palace. That's all.

Congratulations, Your Highness. The Emperor said

You're currently sick so you don't need to stand up and pay respect anymore.

He wants you to recuperate well.

You needn't pay your respects at the various palaces during this time.

My Lady, I've finally able to see the day you and Your Majesty

ending up together.

Thank His Highness for his kindness.

We congratulate Your Highness.

There are more maids who claim to be ill and want to leave.

Have you told them in the palace? Have them come over immediately.

Who else will be willing to come in here as replacement?

Now, it's good enough that we even have these few to serve us.

Your Highness, please drink the medicine.

Your Majesty. Since you've been back the past few days, haven't you realized?

This South Palace of ours, although they say is an Alternate Palace,

but actually is not different from a Cold Palace. These servants

don't really treat us as something.

Oh right. Where did Consort Quan and Consort Lu go?

Some left, some got sick.

I already made them leave.

Only Consort Quanli stayed to accompany me.

But later on, she got really very sick

so she was taken away by her older brother.

Actually, it's good that the Lady Highnesses have left too. To pay for Your Majesty's ransom,

Your Lady Highness Empress has took out all of her savings.

The little remaining

is only enough to feed the Crown Prince.

We don't dare to use the nursing ladies that the Palace sent here.

Her Highness' breast milk isn't enough.

If Yu Dongyang's wife hadn't secretly sent two goats over,

I don't know how we would have held out.

Don't worry. Everything will get better.

Didn't you hear Qiyu say

that all rations will be increased threefold.

I am the Retired Emperor and also his Royal Brother.

For the honor of being the Emperor,

he won't treat us unfairly.

Three times the previous rations?

Right now, looking at the deliveries these past few days,

to be the same as before is already good enough.

Didn't it increase?

Then a few days ago, the bird's nest soup you cooked for me is...?

That was from Hang...

Minister Hang asked Supervisor Liu to secretly bring it in

during your check-up.

What happened to Yunxian?

Nothing wrong happened to her.

It's just that...I heard that Your Majesty has already conferred her the Noble Consort position.

This conferment was going to happen sooner or later.

- Minster Yu is here!- Minister Yu, please.

Greetings, Your Majesty!

Subject Yu, regarding the attempted murder case,

the Eastern Depot has already made some progress.

Just like what you guessed,

it's the doings of Noble Empress Dowager (Sun).

It's not convenient for me to take care of this matter.

Subject Yu, these are the evidence collected by Eastern Depot.

Just work with the Ministry of Justice and deal it with the proper way.

I'll follow your command.

I would like to be granted permission to visit the Retired Emperor

in the South Palace.

The Crown Prince hasn't fully recovered from measles.

Why don't you go there a little later?

I have had measles before. I am immune.

Your Majesty. I have heard that due to the Crown Prince's measles outbreak,

you have put the retired Emperor under house arrest.

Is this true?

Of course not!

Subject Yu,

I'll tell you everything.

This, was also on the orders of Noble Empress Dowager (Sun).

She was never happy about the retired Emperor returning,

and now she's afraid he'll fight me for the throne.

This is why the news has spread.

I currently have no way of standing my ground against her

which is why I can't say anything in front of the court officials.

I have never been afraid of Empress Dowager Sun.

Your Majesty, please let me pay them a visit.

Fine.

Then send a message to imperial brother from me.

Tell him to endure for a while longer.

I will improve the facilities in the South Palace as soon as possible.

I will take my leave.

Are you feeling better today?

Your Highness.

Greetings, Your Majesty.

Sit.

This is the spring tea offered by a tribute.

Have a sip.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

It has a nice fragrance.

The imperial dancers have prepared a show.

How about I summon them to the Palace so you can watch?

I will do as you please.

You may all leave.

Yunxian. Can't you speak to me normally?

Are you still angry at me?

I have committed a crime. Please punish me.

Quickly, get up.

Aren't you purposely making everything awkward?

I dare not.

Must you harbour ill feelings towards my words for so long?

You always embarrass me. Is it fun?

Sister Hang is slightly eccentric. You must be considerate.

How much more considerate do I have to be?

I let her forgo the morning greetings.

I also told her she didn't have to meet mother and Empress Dowager Sun.

I am always considerate of her wishes. Why can't she understand me?

Stop it. You're talking about how nice you're treating her in my Palace.

Are you trying to see if I'm jealous or not?

I didn't mean that.

I only feel rested when I am at your place.

I couldn't stop myself from confiding in you.

I was just joking.

You didn't need to take it seriously.

I am willing to be your listener everyday.

Your Majesty, tonight...

I won't leave tonight.
