The Imperial Doctress Episode 6

These people took our money, yet still locked you in such a place.

I'm okay. It's fine here.

I learned some new remedies from a Lady

Look at your current situation, why do you still care about that?

It's only been a day

but you've lost so much weight.

Quickly, have some food.

Grandma, why do you think Wan Gongfeng believes

Madam Hsu's body is of weak ying?

I don't understand it either.

Maybe there was a mistake in the diagnosis?

But, since even Physician Chen said in court

the medicine you prescribed is neutral.

How would... wait until

then everything can be explained.

Ay.. Madam Xu,

how can she not take care of her own body

take random medicine.

If I knew earlier, I would have asked more in detail.

If I've known she was given a prescription for Yin

I definitely won't let her take licorice root and dried ginger water.

This is not even your fault. Don't think too much.

Here. Hurry up and eat this.

Today, get a good sleep.

Tomorrow, explain it clearly at the court.

Hurry. Take this.

-Zisu, do you have any napkins? -Yeah, yeah, yeah. -I want to give some to them.

Here.

Here. Hold this.

Here.Here.Here. Eat some dessert.

This was made by my grandmother. Her skills are great.

Minister, Come in.

Carry my words verbatim.

Just say if he doesn't want to be in front of everyone

and make a false accusation that could make him lose his face

he should let his maid stick to her statement.

His wife at that time clearly said that she had diarrhea,

But Miss Hang gave the wrong prescription.

-Understand? -Yes.

I have to leave.

Zisu!

Grandma, I have some things I want Zisu to find for me.

Go ask.

Come here.

What is it?

In my closet, there is a Seven Treasure box.

Inside there's your indenture servitude contract.

If something were to happen to me,

You can take it yourself.

Miss.

I'm just scared if that was a problem.

Go.

You can go.

Emperor? Emperor?

Emperor, wake up!

-Your Majesty, you're awake! -Who is it?

Me, Xiao Shun'zi

What is it?

Your Majesty, it's morning already.

If Empress Dowager were to find out about this-

Who cares about her!

Right now finding Qiyu is not going well.

Can't I drink some wine?

Your Majesty, stop drinking!

We have to get back!

-Let's go. I'll lift you up. -I don't want you to lift me up. Wine!

-Watch where you're going. -Sorry, sorry.

How dare you hit me? Do you know who I am?

Sorry!

Come back!

Aren't you Zisu?

Where is your miss? Still caring about other people's business?

Sir Zheng Please let me leave, I have a an important thing to do.

I don't want to.

If you don't tell me why you are out this early in the morning,

I won't let you go.

Don't think about leaving!

Our household's young lady was taken by someone from the Supreme Court.

Today her case will be heard again.

People have said that the incense of the Cheng Huang (deity in Chinese mythology) Shrine is the best.

Today I came on behalf of our young lady to burn incense.

I hope that Cheng Huang master can wish her peace.

What did you say?!

The miss of your household has been taken away by the people of Supreme Court?

Zisu, honestly tell me-

no, honestly tell me

what happened to your miss.

Didn't they announce it was private yesterday?

Why are they allowing us to listen today?

Who knows?

Who know what will happen to that lady.

She already went to the law court. What good name does she has left?

Hang household unexpectedly educated this kind of person. Really unfortunate.

-Talking about you. -Why are you making such a big fuzz?

Quiet down!

Minister, this medical record

was written that day when your servant went to care for Madam Xu.

Madam Xu truly was suffering from Yin deficiency.

Minister Cheng, what do you think?

Official Wan's diagnosis was not wrong.

Madam Xu had had dysentery, a weak body, and coughing for a long time.

It clearly was an illness of Yin deficiency.

But why did Lady Hang determined that it appeared to be Yang deficiency?

Madame Xu only said that she felt weak and coughed.

She never said that she had diarrhea.

If I have known, I definitely won't give her licorice root and dried ginger water.

Liar! My servant can prove it.

My wife clearly said it.

Yeah, Miss Hang.

Madam even asked you if there's anything she can take for diarrhea.

I was there when she said it.

-You even asked her how many times she went to the bathroom -No! You're Lying!

Madame Xu never said that she had diarrhea!

You are still making excuses

It was obvious that it was you who give the wrong prescription.

Miss Hang

Unless you can find a witness

who can prove that she did not tell you about her diarrhea?

I do!

Currently, I can't find the witness.

But I can swear

that Madame Xu never told me about her diarrhea problem.

Right now you are arguing illogically.

I am willing to prove it!

Who are you?

How can you testify for Miss Hang?

I am the wife of Liang Yun, the Minister of Rites

A rank three virtuous woman, née Wang.

Quick! Quick! Quick! Give her a seat!

Please.

Minister, I can testify

that when Madame Xu told Miss Hang her symptoms

she did not tell her about her diarrhea problems.

That day at the pavilion of the Zhou Manor, Madam Xu and I

and Miss Hang were sitting together.

Madame Xu said she was coughing and had no energy.

Miss Hang tried to persuade her to go home and find a doctor,

but Madame Xu was always complementing Miss Hang's medical knowledge

and how she saved Old Madame Xu. She pressed her for a prescription.

Miss Hang kept on saying that she was not a doctor and can't give her a prescription

In the end, due to her pride, she reached out and

wrote a few words for Madam Xu.

That's not right. That day you weren't even there.

Your Honor, I am a titled lady.

This maid talks random nonsense.

Then Miss Hang...

Shut up!

I ask you one more time:

Did Madame Xu tell Miss Hang her diarrhea problem?

Speak!

Drag her out! Pour water on her to wake her up!

Minister, just because there is someone who can testify that my wife didn't tell her it at that time

but after it, she definitely told her

Minister Xu. You can't falsely accuse someone!

You're not allowed to make a ruckus on the royal court!

Physician Cheng, I'm asking you

If Madame Xu did not say anything about her diarrhea,

would other doctors give the same prescription?

When other doctors ask about symptoms, they will ask clearly about previous symptoms

and what kind of medications they used.

They would never leisurely prescribe a patient

What Miss Hang did was as good as killing people.

Physician Cheng

You are a royal physician. How can you speak like that?

I definitely did not speak falsely.

According to you, Madame Xu's death

and Miss Hang are connected.

How is it so lively in here?

They all say that Minister Qi of the Supreme Court is like white and honest politician (lit. someone like Bao Zheng, a Northern Song official renowned for his honesty)

Today, I do want to see how he mirrors into the conscience of the officials.

Eunuch Wang, why are you here?

What? I can't come?

No, it's not like that. Eunuch Wang, you are one of the officials of the inner court.

For you to come over to my Supreme Court and admonish us,

is a great fortune for us.

Come sit. Come sit.

Greeting, Eunuch Wang.

Continue with your interrogation.

I won't bother with your work.

I only passed by

and saw someone I was familiar with and wanted to say hello.

Okay.

Miss Hang! Ever since last time I ate your prescription,

The sickness I had for years are all gone.

After you are done with the interrogation, I will give you a big gift

as thank you to your family.

Continue with your interrogation. I'm listening!

Yes, yes, yes!

Just now

Physician Chen said that if it was another doctor

and did not know about Madam Xu's diarrhea

they still won't just prescribe anything.

Another doctor? I didn't mishear it right?

Is Miss Hang a doctor?

Had she ever opened a clinic?

Xu Silang,

When she felt the pulse of your wife,

did she take a cent for it?

Miss Hang only gave us ladies some Qibai Cream to moisturise the skin.

She gave us over ten sets, and never asked for any payment.

You! Come here!

I recognize you.

You're the new imperial physician.

During yesterday's court case,

you didn't ask if Madam Xu had a deficiency in yin or yang levels.

I...I only said that

if it were other imperial physicians, it wouldn't be like that.

But Miss Hang isn't a doctor

she just kindheartedly advised Madam Xu on some things.

At most it was an oversight.

Oversight?

If she was to have an oversight,

Madam Xu would already be in the afterworld.

I spoke out of turn.

Minister Xu

Hang Jixiang told me previously.

He went to your manor in place of the Emperor to have a look at those peonies.

You don't seem to be satisfied.

You were also making all sorts of excuses. Am I right?

No. There is no such thing.

Minister,

this case is clear.

The death of my wife is because she took random medications.

It doesn't concern anyone else.

This...since the plaintiff has dropped the accusations,

This case is over.

Miss Hang. This time you suffered greatly.

I will now declare you innocent.

You can go home.

Thank you Minister.

This... Eunuch Wang

can this case be concluded now?

Minister Qi, I am not mistaken right?

A perfectly upstanding daughter of an official got called to the court.

The entire city called her an evil doctor who kills.

What?! It's just going to end like this?

Minister Xu. about this thing...

Miss Hang. I have done wrong.

I will personally apologise to you when you return home.

It's okay.

Minister Xu, I really...

-Eunuch Wang -Minister Qi

You are indeed an upright and honest official!

Right now the court has announced

Miss Hang is innocent, and now a free person.

A just court. This is a just court.

Case dismissed.

You are mighty. T/N: Announcing the arrival or leave of the Justice Minister

-Yes! Yes! -Miss!

Miss!

-Miss -Zisu!

Yes! Yes! This is great!

Let's go home!

Yunxian, you've returned!

- Grandmother, I'm back! - Welcome back home!

You've suffered a lot.

Let's go home.

Straddle the brazier to rid yourself of bad luck.

You poor child.

You've really suffered.

Madam Yu is here.

Yimu!

How come Madam Wang suddenly helped me out today?

That day at the pavilion

there was only Madam Xu and us.

It is all because of your kindness.

Didn't you say that day that she was of damp and hot constitution,

unsuitable to use Qibai cream?

You even shouted that she would easily suffer from bowel problems.

Yes, but before she wasn't that happy about it.

All your words that you said she didn't listen to it.

It was actually the one following her, Deng mama, who remembered.

Madam Wang has been married into the Liang family for three years.

Never got pregnant.

They said that she randomly ate some quartz parathion soup.

But still didn't get any results

Deng mama upon hearing your words

went out to find a good physician and

described her symptoms over the past two years in detail.

That physician also said that she

had predominant dampness and her body felt hot and humid.

After changing the prescription, she also got pregnant.

I originally thought to go to the court in person and stand witness for you

and told your godfather

because we have said to have nominal kinship, our testimony will not have any effect.

And without any other choice, I had to beg her.

Who would have thought that he was appreciative of your deed and

unexpectedly agreed immediately.

This is the so called good deeds bring rewards.

I say, in this world, there are still many good people.

Gang'er, you're back.

Yunxian is safe.

Father.

Are you satisfied after causing so much trouble?

Didn't you tell me clearly,

Did you really have nothing to do with Madam Xu's death?

Now I realize

It means nothing.

When did you become friendly with the Eastern Depot?

This Eunuch Wang, why did he go to the Supreme Court again?

-I don't really know Eunuch Wang. -Nonsense!

If you didn't know her, then why would he say that your medicine was helpful.

and even helped speak out for you.

That is Wang Zhen. The head of Eastern Depot.

The eunuch personally appointed by the Emperor.

Father, today is really the first time meeting him.

You! -Ok, Minister.

The past few days, I've accompanied Yunxian whenever she goes out.

I can guarantee she has never met Eunuch Wang outside.

But Yuxian has helped many courtladies.

Other than Madam Wang

there might be others who wanted to help her.

Or perhaps someone secretly informed Wang Zheng.

That's right, Master.

Madam Yu, what you said is reasonable.

It is just that after this event,

People must think that the Eastern Depot and I are close.

The... But...

You can't blame Yunxian either.

If it wasn't already for how she's offended my orders and disgraced the family by learning medicine...

How else would she cause such a calamity?

Even if I won't be mocked by people as an eunuch and his ilk,

because of how much trouble was stirred up, my name as an official

has almost been destroyed completely.

What have I done

-To have given birth to such a diaster! -You...

Gang'er!

Yunxian, don't be sad.

Don't always see your dad being mean

He always cares about you.

Earlier, he had secretly gone to listen to the investigation.

When you were in jail for two days

he had been running all around for you.

Don't be sad.

Yes, Where would there be a father that doesn't care for their own daughter?

That's right.

Miss, drink some water.

Let me.

It is fortunate that you were pronounced not guilty and allowed to go home.

Why such a long face?

Who said I was not guilty?

Father was right.

This disaster was caused entirely by me.

If it were another physician

they would have clearly asked of the patient's illness, before giving out prescriptions.

But you still aren't really a physician.

But the prescriptions that you give out, weren't really medicines.

I can lie to others, but I can't lie to myself.

I already thought about it.

Madam Xu seemed to have suffered from Yin deficiency for a long time.

But I really didn't ask clearly about her illness.

I didn't even know what kind of medicine she ate before.

and even let her take licorice root and dried ginger water.

It's her fault that she didn't say it clearly and randomly eat different kinds of medicines.

I didn't murder her, but she died because of me.

If I listened to my father and gave up learning medicine,

these things wouldn't have happened.

Zisu, help me and go to the Supreme Court's prison tomorrow.

Find a person named Aunt Luo.

I want to thank her. -Ok.

Drink some water.

Uncle, its because I am stupid.

It's not a big deal.

Who knew that this Eunuch Wang would extend his hand out?

However, I really underestimated that Miss Hang.

She does have people helping her.

Otherwise, why would they help a

daughter of a general of fourth rank.

Don't be so sulken.

Just let those commoners say whatever.

The public praise for Eunuch Wang is so poor.

The more he makes things difficult for you, the more likely Empress Dowager to use us.

Just like that Fan Hong. Even though he was thrown into jail,

but Empress Dowager still helped him out.

Keep him by her side to keep using him.

It's okay.

Greetings, Teacher.

Today,

What great ability.

I panicked.

As an imperial physician, you unexpectedly said that kind of testament.

And the other person was still a young lady. How on earth has she offended you?

You unexpectedly wanted to put her to death!

I didn't

-I only said the truth. -Shut up!

Is she a doctress?

If it were the you from ten years ago,

and someone casually asked you how to stop diarrhea,

would you have immediately asked that person's past medical history and contraindications

to diagnose that person and then prescribe?

That year

I accepted you as my disciple

because of your talent. Who would have thought

for a medical practitioner, regardless of your medical skills,

the first thing to be taught is medical ethics.

The Old Madam does not know secular affairs.

All these years, no matter how much time your uncle spent in the hospital,

I never said a word.

I didn't think that you were also

This disciple did wrong! I was confused at the time--

I don't want to hear your explanations.

Today you

think clearly in front of the Medicine Bodhisattva.

To go which road?

Become like your uncle, with his long-sleeved jacket

or stay with your Old Madam and endure and mature under hardships?

Kneel and think about it.

Mother, the Emperor does not know most of the doings of Eunuch Wang.

So..

Don't think that I don't know

Grand Empress has always loved you.

Always fancied the strict upbringing of the Qian family,

hoping that you would help the Emperor by being a Virtuous Queen.

But later

the Emperor still blindly allowed the trouble that Eunuch Wang caused.

A eunuch actually went to the high court

to bully the high justice! Like a fool.

As an Empress,

have you put a little effort into your duty of remonstrating?

I am incapable.

Naturally you're incapable.

You've entered the palace for how many years

Didn't even have a princess

a succession to the throne is the root of a country.

Your highness

You go back first.

Yes

Empress Dowager, you must take care of yourself.

I will take my leave.

-Empress. -He softened up?

Yes, Consort Dowager Wu advised him a few times and

Prince Cheng finally thought it through.

-Order him to the palace at once. -Yes

Fan Hong

do you think I should listen to Wang Ying?

I think since that time

Yu Dongyang submitted a memorial

and the Emperor stopped talking about his wish to conquer Annam.

Your highness

The Emperor, for the sake of promoting Yu Dongyang,

he just accused me of trying to assassinate you.

Excuse my disrespect,

but if I had that thought, I would've done it already.

Why bother with setting a contraption on the bridge?

Your highness, don't be fooled by the emperor.

He just listens to Wang Zhen.

He pretends nothing's happened on the surface,

yet plots to take your life in secret.

What kind of scheming is that?

He dares to think of assassinate his legal mother.

And who knows what kind of trouble it would bring in the future.

I always feel apologetic to the deceased former Emperor.

The Emperor is still someone I personally raised.

You must be overthinking this.

The emperor doesn't understand things, so you as his mother

and you can't help scold him a bit?

Furthermore, this wouldn't even take his life

Jianwen Emperor didn't live up to expectations, T/N: Second Emperor of Ming Dynasty, later deposed in a coup.

and Grand Ancestor did everything T/N: Hongwu Emperor, founder of Ming Dynasty

for the good of the Ming Dynasty.

You're not wrong.

I am doing this for the Great Ming.

I am doing this according to the dying wishes of the previous Emperor.

This empire

can't be ruined by this senseless child.

I do not want to be Empress Wu T/N: Empress Regnant of Tang Dynasty (self-proclaimed Emperor of Zhou).

I cannot tolerate Wang Zhen

and his way of ruining the Empire.

I'll get Prince Cheng to rule as regent first,

so the Emperor can feel a sense of urgency, and wake up to reality.

What?

Last night Aunt Luo suddenly passed away.

-What happened? -I went to look for her

That dajie who was vomiting blood told me while crying,

said that not long after you left prison

Governor Xu came

Telling the prison guards to whip them.

Stubbornly wanted to ask, what you were doing the few days you were in prison.

Someone said that Aunt Luo told you what to pay attention to.

So he summoned Aunt Luo.

Didn't say a lot.

Just whip them until they're dead.

Miss.

Luo Da Niang

Enough.

Stop crying.

Stop crying. Stand up.

Aunt Luo must have known.

She doesn't blame you.

It's me who wants to learn things from her.

So she helped me out.

I harmed her.

Don't cry. Don't cry.

Governor Xu is the culprit!

He couldn't get to you so he took it out on Aunt Luo.

Because of me, mother had birth difficulty,

older brother also got dragged down because of me,

Madam Xu also died unfairly,

and now even Aunt Luo...

Grandmother

Am I really an unlucky person?

Nonsense!

Yunxian

In this world,

you are the best child, did you know that?

Stop crying. Stop crying. Ok?

Yunxian, don't cry.

Then Eunuch Wang came, so the justice let Lady Hang go.

This has seriously avoided a calamity.

That's great.

If she can arrive safely to her house. then that's good.

Your Highness, you don't need to only worry about Lady Hang; think for yourself a bit.

Then what will you say when you meet the Empress Dowager?

You aren't really

going to commit a crime, are you?

Of course not.

It is just that it has been a while,

older brother's subordinates still haven't found me.

We can't send any message out since we are locked in here.

So I think...

Rather than waiting,

let's make the move first by saying that we need to go into the Palace.

Let's calm Empress Dowager down first.

Then we will look for opportunities to send the message out.

Great idea Your Highness!

Help me return these books to grandmother.

Miss. What happened to you?

I wouldn't be able to use it anyways.

People like me shouldn't learn about medicines?

-Princess -Your highness

I heard it from my Father.

I hope it is not too inconvenient for you to dress up as a maid when you enter the palace tomorrow.

Later, my Aunt (Empress Dowager)

might make you suffer a little, but you must endure!

After she calms down, everything can be handled easily with Empress Dowager.

Thank you, Princess.

Meilin doesn't deserve it.

I just hope that Your Highness will remember my kindness.

Of course.

Empress Dowager is my legal mother. That also means you are also my little sister.

Whether it's our relationship as cousins, or how you saved my life, I will always remember it.

This is what you said. Don't forget about it.

Then I'm going to the palace and tell aunt.

Princess

What is it?

Your pendent is loose.

-Xiao Mazi, please call Lan Cao in. -Yes

Don't need to.

Princess

When I was little, I helped Mother with her silk ribbon.

If you don't mind...

Thank you, your highness.

Don't mention it.

Princess

Then I will leave now.

Wait for my news tomorrow.

Ok.

Princess

You walked the wrong way, It's this way.

Oh, I walked the wrong way.

Is this known as "In this net of love, the lovebirds are tied together tightly through a thousand knots,

and any effort to destroy it will be futile." T/N: Written by Northern Song poet Zhang Xian

What kind of nonsense are you saying?

Princess, you're still shy!

Princess, didn't Empress Dowager already said it.

Since His Highness is willing to listen to your plans now,

In the future, you definitely will be husband and wife.

Greetings to Empress.

You may rise.

Did you just go to Empress Dowager?

Yes, your highness

I played a round of cards with the Empress Dowager.

You are Empress Dowager's favorite.

If you have time, might as well come to the palace to walk more often.

This pendent is tied so uniquely.

May I see it?

Your Highness is generous in compliments.
