Investigation Report

Is it true you kidnapped patient Huh Choon Sik?

No! I didn't take him out on my own accord! I got his guardian's consent beforehand!

Well the guardians are saying they never gave any consent.

The doctor in charge specifically said so!

What are you thinking, taking the patient out without the guardian's consent?

Call them then!

He needs to hurry and get more testing!

Wait a moment.

It's patient Huh Choon Sik.

Yes. Understood.

The guardian approved. You can take him.

Ask the doctor in charge, whether it's the truth or not.

The doctor says he never said such a thing.

He testified that while he went out to call the guardians,

you took the patient and disappeared.

How absurd! What kind of absurdity-

Yeong Jae!

San Hyeok!

What's going on? How dare you take this doctor who

was caring for the patient and investigate her?

What's your relationship?

I am Jeong Yeong Jae's guardian. Why is she here?

Ms. Jeong Yeong Jae transferred a patient to

another hospital without the guardians' consent.

In circumstances where the patient's status is critical, the doctor can

transfer the patient to an advanced hospital without the guardians' approval.

Don't you know this?

Let's go. There's no reason for you to be here.

What to do~ There's another reason why that doctor needs to stay here.

Have a seat! Sit down.

The deceased patient Huh Choon Sik's family is suing you for involuntary manslaughter.

Involuntary manslaughter??

Right before his death, you gave him an injection.

I never gave him an injection!

I didn't have a syringe and there was no time...

The paramedic who was in the ambulance with you testified.

That he saw you put in the injection.

The police is not taking proper steps of investigation.

This came out of the ambulance.

Tell the truth,

Cytarabine, a medication injected into the spinal cord,

and Vincristine, which must be injected into a vein

you switched the two up and injected them, right?

That's why the patient's condition suddenly worsened and resulted in death.

Those medicines are anti-cancer drugs!

Who in the world carries around anti-cancer drugs??

It's not true. Everything you said isn't true!

The planner behind this scheme

what did he ask the prosecutors to do?

Let's go.

I'll take care of this.

I'll take care of this issue, so don't worry.

Jeong Yeong Jae fell into Kwon Joo Han's trap.

She's being held at the police station and

even has prosecution investigation to follow.

What? Why would Taesung go after Doctor Jeong??

It's because of the pollution of Miryeong Forest.

Since Jeong Yeong Jae was trying to uncover the secrets behind

the pollution, they're threatening her to make her stop.

Hurry up and find out what I sent you. We don't have much time.

No matter the cost or methods, we must find out.

We must.

Here.

Just like the rumors, you are quick in making your decisions.

I was going to sell the resort after building

it anyway. Since you offered to pay in full,

there's no reason for me to hold on to it.

Although I am concerned about Kang San Hyeok,

who even went undercover to get the job done

Since it's true that he messed with your plans, he must deal with the consequences.

What a clever and rational judgement.

Now you are part of my family, Chairman.

Yes, yes.

Seeing as how they covered everything up in one night, they must have been in a hurry.

You asked for substance analysis of this liquid sample, right?

Yes.

However, they said no matter how much money we offered them,

it still takes at least a week for the results to come out.

No way. In that time, Jeong Yeong Jae will be handed over to the prosecutors.

We need to find out ASAP.

What this red liquid is. What Taesung was trying

to do here. We need to find out and counterattack.

What should we do?

They say it'll take at least two weeks to do the soil analysis even after drilling.

Also, there's no more land to drill because

Nasung Development was handed over to Taesung.

It's ridiculous.

When I went to Nasung to get my stuff, Jo Kwang Pil's henchmen opened the doors.

Wow, I almost cursed at them!

It's a good thing we pulled out all important

documents after the safe was robbed.

Well, I knew the Chairman was that kind of person, but this is going too far!

After we went through that much trouble to get

Miryeong forest, he stabbed us in the back!

How could he do that to you, of all people?

Who made RLI!

The one who was tossed out is me. You, go back to the First Division.

Ah, I don't want to! First Division is getting placed under Director Ham.

To be under that sly bastard-

Anyhow, I've lost all respect for Chairman.

So let's get revenge, Director!

Ah, those thugs! How could they, to innocent Dr. Jeong.

What in the world is buried under there?

You said there's a professor that Taesung

Hitech gave the most research money to, right?

Yesterday, I was dumbfounded by everything that happened.

But today, I feel more awake.

I don't know why those people are lying, but I need to get ahold of myself

in order to get through this ridiculous situation.

I'm going to get you out within today, so don't worry-

I'm not worried.

I'm on vacation! At a hotel that looks like a prison...

I'll be hold down the fort here, so don't you worry.

I won't lose to this ridiculous trap.

Um..

Just get to work! Why'd you call?

What?? The police station?!

I can't talk for long.

About Hwang Yeon Bok, the grandma from Miryeong

she needs to hurry up and get tested for heavy metal poisoning.

They said she's at her son's place.

You should be able to find the guardian's phone number in her chart.

It's an emergency, doctor. Please hurry!

Professor Lee Seok Woo?

I already told you I don't know! Go back.

What are you doing?

This is the current state of Miryeong Forest.

After Taesung secretly did something, the forest became this way.

Taesung Hitech, which supplied you with large amounts of research money.

This has nothing to do with me. Get out.

If you don't leave, I will call security!

These are pictures of people from the village.

This person died from high fever and pulmonary complications.

And this person had lung cancer.

This person due to cancer. Also due to cancer.

And this person, just yesterday

passed away from leukemia.

A world-renowned geologist partook in killing people.

This document which lists the research money that Taesung gave you

can I send it to the reporters right now?

What is in Miryeong forest?

It's an unofficial mining method used by a few nuclear weapons states.

They place pipes around the mountain and flow

acidic solutions through those pipes to mine.

But it pollutes the soil so badly that nations don't use that methodology.

To think they tried this method.

Rare earth metals..

There are rare earth metals in the soil?

According to Professor Lee's files, an estimated reserve of 1,407,500 tons.

The potential value is estimated at 55 trillion won.

If the quality is rated high, it's impossible to calculate its value.

I can't believe it's rare earth elements that I've only heard of.

So that's the reason why Taesung tried so hard to get Miryeong Forest!

They were afraid the land value would spike.

So they lied saying it's a resort project, moving it forward hiding like a cockroach.

It's not only because of the land value.

They pursued a resort business 25 years ago

and goblin fire appeared at night right around that time?

Goblin fire?

It's time to get Jeong Yeong Jae out.

Long time no see, Director Jo.

I must have grown fond of you, it's so nice to see you!

This agenda doesn't call for you to step in.

You got excited when my director ask you to meet him, huh?

That fellow is pretty busy.

Trying to make Kwon Joo Han and Jo Kwang Pil a prison cellmate.

It's been such a long time, huh?

You mined secretly 25 years ago because you were afraid that

the residents would oppose the mining development, right?

And when China sold rare earth elements at a low price,

it wasn't profitable. So, you just covered it all up.

Without taking measures to prevent pollution.

It doesn't even cost that much to do that. So cheap.

What are you going to do now?

The 25-year-old brutality committed by

Taesung's crown prince will be aired live on the 8 o'clock evening news.

If our Director goes on television, the ratings will explode with that face of his.

It'll be the top searched news immediately.

Do you want to die?

Do YOU want to die? It's Kang San Hyeok.

Do you think Kang San Hyeok will let you

guys live after you sent his person to jail?

Now, I need to go buy popcorn.

It'll be amusing to see Director Kwon Joo Han's funky face on the news.

Miryeong Village Water Quality Analysis Report

Agreement

I, Kang San Hyeok, regarding Miryeong citizens' heavy metal poisoning

will remain silent.

The doctor in charge changed his testimony

saying he believes there was guardian consent.

The paramedic also said he did not directly see you injecting the patient.

He said he thinks it was used on the previous patient.

Yeong Jae!

What's this? Are you about to cry because of me?

Let's go!

That grandpa patient's state was not severe enough to develop sudden heart issues.

His vitals were stable...

Stop thinking about it. It was bad luck.

It's not luck! The timing was weird.

After we found out his arsenic level was over 200, grandpa passed away

and the people at the nursing home told crazy lies. Isn't that weird?

The lawyer strongly protested against the police's unjust arrest

Which is why the prosecutors strictly questioned those two.

Because they were scared, they must have realized their mistake.

No, that's not it.

Right after discovering that weird hole in the forest with Oh Bo Mi, it disappeared

and water quality inspection had the wrong results.

I think Miryeong forest has been polluted by some big power.

That power is moving right now.

I wish that you would stop taking interest in other people's business.

This incident also wouldn't have happened if you didn't go look for that grandpa.

How can a paramedic (you) say something like that?

He was my patient and I found out the cause of his illness was something else,

how can that not be my business?

Currently, I'm also a citizen of this village.

It sounds like a conspiracy theory that puts two separate events together.

Well, it'd be a good thing if it were a conspiracy theory.

When I read through the files, it seems like

the pollution has been ongoing for a while.

It's truly evil if they left it alone this whole time while knowing that.

If that the case, I'll find out to the end and I'll make him pay for the crime.

I got it! Look at me.

We were apart for two whole days!

Are you going to keep talking about other things?

Then, my thoughts will end here today.

Wow, the color is so pretty!

It's pansy tea. It'll help with your sleep.

You're here! What happened?

What's going on? The police station?

It just happened that way. It's too complicated to explain.

- Everything has been taken care of. - Aigoo...

- What a strange turn of events. - I know.

- You went through a lot, Doc. - Oh...

how about Hwang Yeon Bok? Did she get tested for heavy metal poisoning?

I called her guardian and she was hospitalized from her leg pain.

I said she needs to be tested for heavy metal poisoning.

And he said yes. That he'd get her tested there.

Really? Which hospital is she at?

At Seoul Myeongseong University Hospital.

Ever since Taesung started sponsoring Miryeong Village,

if the ailment calls for going to Seoul,

everyone goes there from here.

But you know, my friend's newspaper company tells me this isn't worthy of a story.

What? How come? With all this evidence?

It's lacking solid facts since it was tested only in one lab.

And they're saying the causality of the deaths of villagers from

heavy metal poisoning isn't clear to jump to that conclusion.

I mean, we want to write up articles in order to reveal the causality.

What are they talking about?

That's what I'm saying.

I was so shocked when I heard that this isn't newsworthy.

The environmental group refused the story as well.

They can make their move only after the presence

of heavy metal elements is clearly proven.

How did the pollution issue in Miryeong Village wrap up?

I reported to the upper management and got their

reply saying that they'd look into it. Why?

I feel uneasy about how things are going.

You know, would you tell the deceased Huh Choon

Sik's family that the body needs an autopsy?

I don't think they'd listen to me.

Okay. Thanks.

Approval of the use of the provincial forest?

Are you out of your mind?

You asked for the relocation of the special rescue team.

Now, you want the use of the forest?

If you continue with this, I'll back out of everything.

Rare earth elements are buried in the Miryeong forest.

Rare earth elements?

1,407,500 tons.

Our country imports 3,000 tons every year.

It's an amount that can last us for about 50 years.

The current estimated value is more than 55 trillion won.

Depending on international politics, the value can go up. I'm sure you know.

The resort is nothing by comparison.

Governor, please give me the permit to mine the forest.

The next national assembly election might be too soon.

But you should aim for the top for the election

season following that, don't you think?

While you're going for the presidential election,

I'll make sure you won't have to bow down for money.

There's no way that the governor would also stab us in the

back and hand over the forestry permit to Taesung, would he?

He knows better than anyone that Taesung is supporting Assemblyman Kim.

He'd never do something to fill up Assemblyman Kim's tummy, his enemy.

Perhaps we might be able to get to work before Taesung does.

Be sure to prepare all the documents regarding permits.

Pull a list of experienced mining companies.

So we can get to work right away as soon as we receive our permit.

Yes, I got it.

Let's get him drunk. Only alcohol will do the job.

No, no. He'll heal if he exercises hard.

The latest fashion.

If we get him a new coat, I'm sure he'll feel all better.

Let's go fishing.

What?

You also struggled after seeing your first fatal victim.

But you got better after going fishing together.

Now that I think about it...

I'm for it! Angling is also a form of exercise.

I agree, too. We can go and drink together.

Then, we're agreed on going fishing.

- Okay. - Go.

- Decided. - Okay.

- Fighting! - Fighting!

Okay. Great.

Let's go.

We go fishing for team unity every year. You're going, too, right?

- I'm out. - Come on...

What do you mean you're out? Everyone agreed to go. Right?

Of course.

I'll chastise anyone who doesn't come.

Chastise.

It's next Sunday.

Don't even think about missing it.

We'll begin the equipment training in ten minutes.

- Yes, sir. - Yes, sir.

- Let's get ready! - Yes.

Team Leader.

Letter of Resignation

Something came up. I'll have to now...

What's wrong with you, man?

You're well aware of the basic number of rescuers required

for emergency dispatch. What are you doing out of the blue?

Don't you know what happens to the rest of us if you pull out?

Take it back.

I'm going back to Seoul. I'm sorry.

Was this planned from the get-go?

Is this why you joined the rescue team?

You want to leave after your plan and goal has been achieved?

I knew you were no good as a person.

But I thought you were becoming a rescuer, at least.

I don't know who you are.

But you're no good for your colleagues who considered you a fellow rescuer.

Take it back.

I'll be leaving as of this moment.

Please order your disciplinary action.

Miryeong Hospital

You'll get hurt. Be careful.

Where's your car?

I don't have it.

I wanted to take a walk with Jeong Yeong Jae.

What in the world? Are you already suffering from

separation anxiety just because we were apart for two days?

I want to do something with you.

- Do something? - Yeah.

Okay, repeat after me. Say, "ball" first.

Ball.

Next, "leaf."

Leaf.

How to float.

If you fall into the water, you become a ball.

If you cuddle and stay still, you'll float slowly.

Once you float to the surface, you become a leaf.

You spread out your body as if to say, "hooray."

A ball and a leaf next.

You can't forget it.

Why are you teaching me this?

It's insurance for when I'm not around.

You won't be by my side? How come?

It was only for a short time, but you were alone in the police station, too.

I'm just preparing for a time like that. Just in case you get hurt.

Well, I'm sure such a thing won't happen again in your lifetime.

Because Kang San Hyeok will always protect Jeong Yeong Jae.

Should we stop?

No. I want to go deeper.

Yeong Jae.

I like you.

I found out this time around.

How precious you are to me.

I really like you.

Me, too.

I really like you.

Stop.

- Up to here for today. - Okay.

All right. Let's do that.

All right. Good job.

You're amazing, my Jeong Yeong Jae.

Episode 28 will air soon.

Episode 28 How dare you show up here?

I'm here to investigate the arson committed by Miryeong Forestry's employees.

The police were here and did all the investigating. What more?

Do you think you're a cop or something?

It's also my job.

Did you really not know that those people were going to commit arson?

That's why I was so shocked myself.

I couldn't believe such evil punks were hiding in our Miryeong Forestry.

I was so shocked. Ever since that day, I couldn't eat nor sleep.

What's wrong with me?

President Choi!

Excuse me! Is anyone here?

Father! What's wrong?

What happened? Are you okay?

They'll observe him for a day and he can go home.

Thanks, Bo Mi.

What do you mean, thanks? I collapsed because of this Officer Oh.

Why did you have to get me all riled up?

I couldn't just stand back and watch my future

father-in-law fall into the depth of evil.

Aigoo!

Who's your father-in-law?

Then, should I just say, "Father?" Or "Dad-in-law?"

Aigoo, give me a break.

That's nice. Dad-in-law.

So cute.

Go. Don't get me riled up and leave.

Do you know how much of a shock I was in?

My heart is still pumping fast and the back of my neck hurts. Aigoo...

Aigoo...

You're holding onto your stomach when your

heart is pumping and back of your neck hurts.

If you're this full, of course, you're in pain.

Geez, I was worried you were skimping on your meals without me.

I worried for nothing.

This is from aging, man.

You're way too old then.

- You're full of energy. - Ouch!

I was actually relieved when I saw my father calling the police first.

I guess I was suspicious of my father subconsciously.

The father I know wouldn't do such a thing.

Is something wrong?

Chang, I think Miryeong Village has been contaminated.

So, how about President Choi also gets his complete medical examination?

Contaminated? No other villages are cleaner than our village.

And my father is so healthy.

He still lifts lumber without any problems.

But still. You never know.

I was locked up in the hospital because of that psycho.

Did she leave?

Why? You miss her already?

Why would I miss that psycho?

Father, why don't we get a complete physical since we're here?

Do you think that's free? Why bother with a physical?

I'll pay for it.

Man, don't you know that your money is my money? Forget it.

Geez...

Fine. I'll come back home.

So, let's get a physical.

I don't need it.

- Stop spewing nonsense. - Come on...

I know you're happy. Then, we'll get a complete physical, okay?

I'm hot. Get away from me.

I don't want to. Don't want to.

I'm hot. It's hot!

- I don't want to. Don't want to. - I'm hot!

Seong Il, did you look into what I asked about?

I looked it up, but I can't view Hwang Hyeon Bok's file.

You can't view it? Why not?

I don't know. I can't view it with my ID.

That can't be. It's not like she's a politician or a celebrity.

I know. There's no reason why I can't view an ordinary citizen's file.

All right. Thanks.

Dr. Jeong, do you have the list of residents

who took the heavy metal poisoning test?

Yes, it's at home. I took it home to organize the file.

I'll give it to you tomorrow.

Miryeong Village seems very unsettled.

Of course.

Heavy metal poisoning, contaminations. I'm sure they've never even imagined it.

Not about that. I heard a resort development will take place here.

The village land and Naseong Development's land...

I heard they were all sold.

Didn't your boyfriend tell you?

About what...

He did work in that industry before, but he got out of it now.

He's a member of the special rescue team. You know that.

Really? I heard that a young man from Seoul

went around purchasing the land, so I thought...

But you know, why did he quit such a great job...

and why? Why did he become a rescuer?

Isn't that weird? It's weird.

It's weird.

For me to give you a permit to use

provincial forest land at this point in time,

it only shows them what we discussed that day.

We'll have to watch ourselves for now.

I even had someone follow the governor that day. When did they photograph him?

A drone. They were watching us through a drone.

What? A drone?

For them to be so blunt about it means they know

we wouldn't be able to do anything about the contamination.

Wouldn't we have to cover up the contamination

issue if we want to dig up rare earth elements?

For symptoms like these to appear,

I'm sure it didn't happen in a short amount of time.

You can say it was accumulated over a long period of time.

I'm sure a large amount of mineral waste is buried somewhere.

Mining 25 years ago and a large amount of mineral waste, huh?

If we find critical evidence, we can be the ones in control.

Someone in the Miryeong Village must know that fact.

The call is not going through. After the beep...

Why do I feel so uneasy as if I got swindled?

He'd better not stab me in the back.

On the Miryeong Mountain, 1994

It's strange.

I'm sure I left it here.

San Hyeok.

He's not off work yet?

Plans to Mind Miryeong Forest Rare Earth Elements?

Rare Earth Elements and Environment Pollution

Blood Cell Heavy Metal Test

Arsenic level

Why would he look at this...

You've been selected as a beneficiary for the

medical welfare program that our company sponsors.

Why did he quit such a great job...

why did he become a rescuer?

It's weird.

I'll take these.

Just a moment, please.

You're home.

- You're late. - Yeah.

I prepared a bribe.

Ta-da. Aren't they pretty?

I had a hard time picking them out because I wanted to buy you the prettiest pair.

Try them on.

They're so pretty.

How do they look? Do they look nice?

Yeah. They're beautiful on you.

Put these on and let's go back to Seoul.

Let's go back. I'll look into a hospital position for you.

Let's go back to Seoul and...

Should I?

To look wealthy and elite. Should I live like that?

Just like these high heels.

Just like Kang San Hyeok?

Did something bad happen?

I thought that you had the same mindset as me.

But you're faithful to the desires that your eyes can see.

Ms. Hwang Hyeong Bok. Did you hide her?

Why? To deceive the sick lady and get

involved in the rare earth element business?

I'm not deceiving her. I'm treating her at a place

with the topnotch medical professionals in that field.

Right. You're hiding the fact that the residents are sick from arsenic poisoning.

If that is found out, it will be an obstacle to

the rare earth element business. Isn't that right?

Let's think rationally, Yeong Jae.

Just because you reveal the cause of their sickness, their ailments don't go away.

Even if it weren't for me, Miryeong forest's rare earth element will be dug up.

If I develop it, I'll use the method that is least evasive to the environment...

So, you're saying you're different than

people who contaminated the land of Miryeong?

Different from extremely evil people, you're just slightly evil?

Is that what you want to say?

After crumbling many walls and beyond them, I thought I saw

the real Kang San Hyeok who is so friendly and warm.

But when it comes to your work, you're still the

coldhearted man who sees nothing else besides your goal.

Yeong Jae...

Could you fix your eyes on me?

I'll ask you one thing.

The rare earth element business you're about to launch...

could you give it up if I opposed it?

I have never lived any other way. I don't even know how.

If you trust me and wait a little longer...

Don't play with words.

Don't try to get out of this at the moment. Give me a straight answer.

If I oppose it, could you give up on this business?

That's right. How could I rescue someone else?

I can't even rescue myself.

But at least, I don't want to become someone

who causes others to die because of my desires.

I want to become someone who can ask myself, "Why do you need that much money?"

And now, I don't want to stay with someone

whose direction in life is different from mine.

What do you mean by that?

Should I move out or will you?

Yeong Jae, I like you.

I found out this time around.

How precious you are to me.

I really like you.

You'll only focus on your goal.

I'm afraid of that obvious outcome.

I have confidence to fight thanks to you.

It's proof that I'm not cursed.

You have me.

When you smile, the world smiles.

I, Jeong Yeong Jae, is always by your side.

Even including romance... oh, yeah...

It's a movie with all types of genres combined.

I like it.

I warned Kang San Hyeok with photos. Should I carry it out into action?

Please wait. We have to figure out the forest permit issue anyway.

Let Kang San Hyeok be our hunting dog and bring it to us. Just watch him for now.

After our hunt is over, we'll eat the dog.

We'll boil him and eat all the meat

and the bone marrow.

How do you feel, grandma?

For having me in such a nice hospital...

I'm just so grateful and I'm comfortable here.

Until your treatment is over, you can rest at ease.

Our company will pay for all the costs. Do you understand?

I'll be back.

Grandma, by chance, these people...

Director, where are you right now?

I looked into it and the guide that Kwon Joo

Han hired when coming out to Miryeong to hunt

was Choi Jeong Mok of Miryeong Forestry.

He'd blow a whistle of some kind and gather around the animals.

If you look at the files, right after the

fire at Miryeong Mountain from 25 years ago...

Miryeong Forestry has been supplying lumber to Taesung Construction.

And the arsonists for that recent fire were workers from Miryeong Forestry as well.

I think there's a deep connection among forest fire, Choi Jeong Mok, and Taesung.

The call is not going through. After the beep...

How much did you receive?

How much did Taesung pay you for you to do such a thing?

What are you talking about coming here out of the blue?

Starting the forest fire.

Did you think you wouldn't get caught?

Did you get your memory back?

Did you think I'd never remember?

Asshole! It wasn't me. It was you!

You started the fire! How dare you try to put it on me?

Stop it!

I said I remember everything!

Shut up, you asshole!

Let go of me!

Did you start the forest fire, punk?

No, it wasn't me.

- There's a proof. - I said I didn't!

How dare you. Let's go to the police.

I said, no!

Where are you going?

I won't let you win, rock-paper-scissors!

Got you!

- How can you let it go? - It's okay. But still...

I'll be right back. Make sure you stay here and wait for me.

You can't go anywhere, okay?
