catherine parr was born it is believed

in black friars London in 1512 the

act date is unknown her father was Sir

Thomas Parr and her mother was more

green she was the eldest of three

surviving children she had a younger

brother and sister her mother was a

close friend to the Queen Catherine of

Aragon the Queen was her godmother

it is believed she was named after her

her family seat was in the north of

England although the family home was in

desperate need of restoration as

befitted a station of a well born woman

catherine was educated accordingly as

time went on it became apparent she

loved to learn and developed quite an

ear for languages learning French Latin

Italian and even learning Spanish from

the Queen herself Catherine became queen

of England and also Eve Island on her

marriage to Henry the eighth on July the

12th 1543 until Henry's death on January

the 28th 1547 she was the first Queen to

hold both titles Catherine Parr became

famous for being a sixth and final wife

of King Henry the eighth's

whilst being courted by Thomas Seymour

Catherine caught the attention of the

king and that was his habit he married

the women that caught his eye

although Catherine had been married

twice before her previous husbands had

both been elderly men and she cared for

them until their deaths Catherine had

been very close to the King's children

and when Henry died

Elizabeth lived with her when she

married Thomas it became apparent the

relationship between Seymour and

Elizabeth may not have been wholly

appropriate and it is believed for

Elizabeth's protection she was removed

from Catherine's household it is

commonly thought that a lot of

Elizabeth's views were learnt from

Catherine's own of dignity strength of

character and religious convictions

although her marriage to Thomas Seymour

had been without permission from the

Regency Council because she could

theoretically be pregnant by the King on

his death they were nevertheless married

in secret Catherine became pregnant with

her first and only child but sadly days

after giving birth to Mary Catherine

died on the 5th of September 1548 of

med fever the common cause of death

after a birth at the time
