This donghua is adapted from the novel "Zhu Xian" written by Xiao Ding

ZHU XIAN Immortal Executioner

Episode 22

In the cycle of karma,

retribution is certain.

The retribution

always follows.

Today,

I vow a grand aspiration.

All karmic consequences

and retributions.

I shall bear them all upon my shoulders

to strive for all living beings

to be freed from suffering disasters and calamities.

Though Blood-Striking Bead is demonic,

it can resolve the karmic bonds of mortals.

Using my own body as a foundation,

I shall forge the City of Karmas

to contain all karma within,

preserve goodness in this world,

and seal evil within myself.

Thus I can benefit all living beings.

So

that person did speak truth?

Karmic bonds resist containment?

Only through collaboration of supreme arts

of Buddhism and Daoism,

can this be resolved.

Let this matter rest.

Forgive me, Master.

After my death,

those unfulfilled ambitions

will likely vanish.

Right.

There is a way.

No.

Why not?

Don't do this.

What am I thinking?

Kill!

There must be another way.

Kill!

There is no other way.

There is no other way.

Stop!

Stop!

What have I done?

These are manifestations of wicked karma.

Could this be the City of Karmas?

In the afterlife,

shall we meet again?

I sought a world without evil.

I tried to plant seeds of virtue,

yet I reaped poisoned fruit.

The tragedy of Caomiao Village

is my sin to bear.

Here I'll endure karmic punishment.

The evils I committed

couldn't be atoned for

even with a thousand blades through me.

Your actions

are no better than self-deception!

Since you've come,

my sinful body

is yours to deal with.

Mine to deal with?

Can it change my half-life of wandering?

Can it revive all those who were wrongfully killed?

247 people's remains in Caomiao Village

have long decayed into mud.

You think trapping yourself here

and suffering endlessly

settles all debts?

I...

I don't know.

In my heart, I've slain you countless times.

But what can I do besides killing?

If I can't make the guilty perish

and the innocent alive again,

even cutting you into ten thousand pieces

changes nothing.

What's the point of this?

I have committed these monstrous sins.

I'm sorry.

I wronged you.

I wronged all people in Caomiao Village.

Go quickly!

The karma's backlash.

I can't contain it!

Burdened with all karma.

All evils manifest.

The sea of suffering has no shore,

yet fools seek to save the world with their flesh

and to purge mortal karma through mortal strength.

It's delusion in the end.

Burdened with all karma?

These are all the evils he suppressed.

If evil springs from human hearts,

why should we fear it?

Human nature is wicked,

beyond the salvation of gods and Buddhas.

We simply turn blind eyes

and deceive ourselves.

Humanity's evil.

Schemes and plots.

Deception and intrigue.

Blood feuds and vengeance.

Over these past dozen years,

I've witnessed

far too much!

All life's cycles are uncertain,

yet evil persists eternally.

Master,

a full day and night have passed.

Patron Zhang still hasn't emerged.

Karmic entanglements for life

and a lifetime of love and hatred

wouldn't be seen through and let go so easily.

I implore you, Master, to use your divine power

and Buddha's infinite might

to guide and enlighten him.

Let Buddhist compassion dissolve his malice,

freeing him from mental torment.

It's not that I refuse to save him,

but having endured countless trials,

he has had a hard life.

Now,

his resolve stands unshakable.

No external force can sway him now.

Whether you

or Puzhi, you were both wrong.

Junior Puzhi,

though your intentions were noble,

they bore bitter fruit.

If even you struggle toward goodness,

how can you demand it from others?

Each person's karma charts their own path.

Puzhi sought to eradicate evil,

which was a virtuous pursuit,

yet it caused the Caomiao Village tragedy,

yielding terrible consequences.

These consequences

became seeds of my own destiny.

Through my life's turbulent journey,

each event

and every person

shaped who I am today.

Since fate converges through me,

whether causes are good or evil

and whether fruits are righteous or wicked

are decided by my choices.

I'll bear this karma,

shoulder all burdens,

and walk my own path.

You've succeeded.

The karmic debts within Junior Puzhi

have been dissolved.

With great compassion,

you've resolved countless karmic bonds.

For Puzhi and all beings,

this brings immeasurable blessings,

marking the attaining of Buddhahood.

Master.

What are your instructions?

Let the departed rest peacefully.

Please cremate

Master Puzhi's remains

Walking in a straw raincoat covered in snow

and conduct a proper burial.

Stumbling and losing my way

A bird with broken wings battering against its cage

You've let go of your attachments.

Sorrowful mountains imprisoning a solitary wild goose

We are destined for divergent paths

Like scattered clouds and drifting duckweed

This prison of the heart is hard to escape

Amidst blades of frost and bitter cold

Singing a solemn song while weeping tears of blood

Though this master

Driven to madness by agonizing regret

and I only met briefly,

I once knelt before him,

Stumbling and staggering along

willingly paid homage,

Misty waters stretching vast and hazy

A single sword sweeps across the sky

and called him master.

Shattering the universe and severing the firmament

He saved me,

yet doomed me.

Licking my wounds

But without him,

Where to go... which path to choose?

I wouldn't exist.

Let him rest.

To whom can this brocade letter be sent?

Though not a Buddhist disciple,

Wandering lost in the dusty web of life

I know rebirth's significance to Buddhists.

Why envy the wild geese returning home?

His refusal of burial

Life waxes and wans every year

A frail boat on a sea of karmic sin, stubbornly clinging to delusion

shows deep remorse.

A tomb that binds the heart

Looking back suddenly,

A lone peak cradles the bright moon

To whom can this brocade letter be sent?

Wandering lost in the dusty web of life

Why envy the returning wild geese?

You

Rest in peace.

Life waxes and wans every year

A frail boat in a sea of karmic sin, stubbornly clinging to delusion.

A tomb that binds the heart

Our bond remains unbroken

Aging yet keeping our promise true

Junior Puzhi,

at last you can rest...

Junior Puzhi.

Junior Puzhi,

your sins are absolved,

and your wishes are fulfilled.

I

rejoice for you.

With your past karma settled

and present debts repaid,

A reflection in a mirror reveals the depths and shallows

Having been fellow disciples in this life.

Endless and eternal

May we meet again in the vast ocean of the Buddha Dharma,

A withered lamp burns through the curtain of night

Karmic fire consumes the fading red

Destined to meet when the disaster begins

Destined to loose everything once it ends

Only after rebirth can one find true calm

Willingly entering this world like it is a dream

To whom can this brocade letter be sent?

Wandering lost in the dusty web of life

Why envy the returning wild geese?

Life waxes and wans every year

A frail boat on a sea of karmic sin, stubbornly clinging to delusion

This is the culmination

Has been carried half a lifetime

Where to go?

How many layers have I walked

This is the culmination

of half a lifetime of searching

Let go gently,

Let the worldly dust fade
