All right, welcome in to
my first tutorial in Blender teaching
you how to use Blender
to make objects that you can 3D print in
real life.
So, turn whatever's on the screen
into something tangible that you can
actually hold.
So, first things first, we're going to
get rid of the camera
as well as the light source cuz we won't
need those.
>> And if you accidentally delete the cube,
all you have to do is press shift A and
then go to mesh cube.
>> We're in metric
with
millimeters.
And then if we press
N
to check out the item, we can see
scale of this item
it's currently at 2,000 so
going back into the
scene, we're going to change unit scale
to 0.001.
And here you can see we've got a 2-mm
or
easier to see this way
got a
2-mm cube by 2-mm
so each line here is 2-mm.
And first thing that we're going to make
is a way for you to see your build plate
area.
So, the current 3D printer that I'm
working with
is the
Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro which has a maximum
build volume of I'll highlight both of
these here
cuz the X and the Y are the same
225 mm.
Here we're going to have to zoom out.
So, that's basically the build plate
right there the build plate area.
So, any part of the object that goes
outside of this area
won't turn out
if you 3D print it. Your slicer will
probably give you
an error unless you scale it down
significantly.
And now
the
height or the Z axis is 265 mm. So,
we're we're going to plug that in there.
And here is the build plate area. One
more thing we're going to want to do
with this is you're not going to be
printing
below
the axes.
So, we're just going to want to shift
this up half of
265
is 132.5.
So, we're going to change that
location 132.
I clicked out of there. 132.5.
And there you can see
it should be exactly or close to
where these axes are.
So, the reason why I'm doing this is so
you can visualize your prints in the
build area, which I found helpful. But,
a completely solid
just cube is going to be kind of hard to
see if your whatever you're making can
fit in there.
Even making it transparent still
pretty difficult to see another object
in there.
Like um
put
um
We'll do monkey.
Scale it way down.
Yeah.
So, I mean, you can still kind of see
what it would look like, but I feel like
we can do better than that. And then
that way you don't have to have x-ray on
the whole time. So, we're just going to
hide that.
Select this, and we're going to have to
go to the modifiers tab. Add a modifier.
Generate. Scroll all the way down to
wireframe. And then here I'm going to
put the thickness to about 2 mm.
Excuse me.
.02 mm.
And then
if we
re-show the monkey head there,
I feel like that's a much
more accurate
way to
you know, see the
the 3D build area.
And um
it at least helps me visualize the scale
because I know
what my build plate is in real life,
right? I know how big that is. And same
with the heights, and then I can see if
it'll fit in that area. But, we can
delete this, and then I'm just going to
double-click in here and rename this
Neptune
4 Pro
build area.
And then I'm going to
save this.

it the same thing.
And then that way
when we open up another file
like let's see what I've been working on
lately. We'll just
All right. So, this was another project
that I was working on.
Don't know why it's rotated like this.
Um
Okay.
Okay, so I'm just going to select
copy
and paste this into the blend file that
I want to put it into.
And there you go. You can see
how that will turn out on
the build plate.
Um and then just double-checking
scene
units.
Well, either way it's still the same.
Um so, there you go. That is
one key trick that I use
to
use Blender to 3D print
objects that I want. Let me know
