doesn't know how he's at the front, but man, is he playing it cool. Then Drift

That is how we line up at the front. At the back.

You would forgive them for the heartbeats being a little faster.

Just a four-time champ over your shoulder, and you can turn round, you

can have a look, and it's really him in the full regalia, the race suit, the

helmet, and all of those race wins. He was devastatingly quick earlier on.

When Max Verstappen says that he's learning a track, that was a fascinating

process, I can tell you. You could just see him taking more of the circuit with

every single lap that he runs. And by the way, if you're ahead of him, when we

leave the kart track and we go to the extended one, oh, he is so good at that

corner. It's exciting to do it.

It's a long way.

It's a very long way.

But I'm going to do my best and I will see where we end up.

Right, we are now moments away from Lights Out. Let's get excited for Max

versus 100.

When Max gets past, that is it. They are out.

And they will peel into the pit lane. Some of those eliminated will join us up

here in commentary.

And it will be amazing to hear what they think of the on-track action.

So that is how you get eliminated. You've heard the Chucky Lap referred to.

The Chucky Lap is a corner cut inspired by the McLaren CEO who said

that Max Verstappen is like Chucky in the horror movie. You cannot get rid of

him. And so they've called the corner cut the Chucky Lap in order to give

everyone a chance not to disappear.

It all makes sense. At least, Matt Gallagher, I think it all makes sense,

because I've never seen a sight like this at Silverstone. The old Grand Prix

used to have a curved pit straight, and we've brought it back for Max versus

100.

This makes absolutely no sense.

Let's be real. There's 100 karts right there. We're taking a look at them.

They're all so happy to be here. It's so awesome to see such an incredible event

put on here at Silverstone at their brand-new kart track, but extended it a

little bit as well to have even more fun. Just look at that aerial shot.

And we are building up. So 30 laps on the board, a maximum of 75 minutes, 101

karts on the main straight, an extended track, and I can tell you, that if you

are in the way of Max Verstappen into what I'm calling the Wellington hairpin,

be afraid.

Oh, that's a good shot. That is some shot.

Everyone has been given the briefing. Everyone has been told the rules.

Once Max Verstappen gets past you, you peel to the pit lane. When they get to

the elimination arch, they will be shown the black flag as a result of being

overtaken. They know how it works.

And we are now counting down.

100 karts you're seeing about half the grit from that shot and then they will

get the starters signal and then we will see how many max can get on the opening

lap we've seen in the practice races with arvid lindblad you've got to make

big progress early on if you're going to get through everyone first two laps are

going to be crucial

You need to work together, but you also need to make sure you're ahead. Here we

go. Here come the lights.

Three, four, five.

And we see the green flag fly.

And it's a massive brawl on the main street.

I'm looking at Max Verstappen at the very back, and he's going through them.

He is slicing through them. I reckon he's got ten before he's even got to the

start line.

Unbelievable. He's weaving left. He's weaving right. And he's picking his way

through. Now, does it turn into bumper cars? He's on the grass.

This is an absolute melee.

He's having to avoid it. He goes over the road and he saw that one coming. He

did his homework.

Matt, what is happening here?

I think he's passed about 20 karts into turn one, Alex. The start, he can't look

at this yellow flag out. We've got karts facing the wrong way.

That was always going to happen. That was always going to happen at the

hairpin. That is a part of the circuit where we've got the yellow flag out.

We're still running. It's not a full course yellow. They can't do that.

And let's check in with Max.

Max, it's an absolute chaotic melee at the start. How did you pick your way

through? I have no idea what's going on. Oh my God, it's carnage.

Oh, you predicted carnage. It's like a 30-car traffic jam at the back of the

field. There's a complete log jam at the hairpin.

Max is going to the inside.

He's going past them for fun. The full course yellow is out. The race is going

to be suspended.

The race director will now be talking to the drivers and they will line up and

we will get you an order of where Max Verstappen is. I can tell you right now,

Max Verstappen is 37th, Matt Gallagher.

He's 37th. Did someone tell Max to not win it on lap one?

Well, I hope we've got some VTs planned for later in the show because Max has

just gone past more than half the field. This is really happening.

And I don't even know how to summarize this. I've got notes on all 100.

And for the majority of the field, they didn't even get a lap.

We've got a full course yellow out here, Alex, but a lot of drivers still pushing

out there. So I'm questioning right now.

Whether, now they've seen it, the front of the field have now realised it's a

full course yellow. So, deep breath everyone. That went roughly how we

expected it, maybe with a little bit of sauce on the side.

You'll see 63 cars peel into the pits.

All of the few metres before, the guys look at Max, G-ing up the go-kart, using

his body weight as momentum. Look at the acceleration he gets out of there.

Unbelievable.

Have you ever... Did you ever think you'd see a four-time champion G-ing the

go-kart forward with his own body weight? Yes. Yeah, he's a very

competitive man. I'm unsupposed.

He got himself up to P36. He got past about at least 10 cars before we'd hit

our point on the start line.

And so he makes his way through.

There's a little bit of contact. Worried if he... Wondered at that point whether

it was going to cost him. Then he wisely bails out of the car park on the left

-hand side.

But look at this behind. We've got a spinner.

tell. And then this is where it goes from a tiny starter of chaos to a full

nine-course tasting menu, because look at that. You've got spinners causing a

log jam.

There's three facing the wrong way, just staring at each other.

And that, I'll be honest with you, could be anyone.

I can see the impact going on.

Wise for Max to take to the grass and to avoid impact. But he did make some

contact with some of the karts out there, especially into that hairpin.

And it happened just like that. You know, I've never spoken to a driver

getting out of the car before. This is so, so unusual.

racing that's happening and Max Verstappen is warm speed right now. Look

at the frustration of those behind. There's nothing they can do. He's

picking through for fun and Verstappen finds himself claiming places. The full

And out front, we have Osler now. So I want to tell you about those out front.

It's Osler, Alsop and Chen, the top three. That is important.

And if that swaps over, it's going to mean that Max is going to get on the

front even quicker.

Over the line we go. The green flag is flying. The drivers have all been told

that the fast lap is open. So the chucky lap, the corner cut is available.

as the Oracle Red Bull racing driver has got up in the early stages, if you're

just joining us, after an absolute melee eliminated more than half the field.

I'm not sure we're going to need all of it, Matt. I think we're going to be done

by that 12. He is absolutely flying out there as Max Verstappen.

I'm having a look now. He's 12.7 seconds off the lead.

That is not good news if you're in the lead. It is good news if you're Max

Verstappen and you're trying to get by. So we lost 30. We lost more than half

the field on the opening lap.

And we're going to have another gaggle of drivers.

We're going to have another at least seven out at

opening lap?

i i thought i did good um and then i he was behind me so first lap i started

31st and he got me on the first lap like this guy's i knew he was good but this

guy's incredible were you part of the sort of real carnage that happened were

you facing the wrong way what plays through that first lap i don't even know

what carnage you're referring to there was just loads i think i took it too

easy and let loads of people overtake me because i was sure that he was way back

there And then he wasn't. Then I was behind him for the whole of the yellow

flag. I was like, wow, this is Max Verstappen.

Like, I just want to stay here. And then I had to go to the pits and stuff.

You say that the carnage I was speaking about was a 30-car car park in the

middle sector.

No, that might have been. Yeah, I might have been there. Yeah, I think I was

there. Can we talk to Max? Can we ring him? We can talk to Artie Javi as well.

And so in the interest of television spectacle, I'm being told that our

generous race director has given the top four an extra Chucky lap.

I thought we were going to let the other 95 out.

I can't go through that again. I can't cope with that happening on track.

Just looked up from the commentary position and had a look at our gaggle

out front.

And our top three find themselves ahead of Max Verstappen by a significant

margin. They're running within a second.

And we've had a change, actually, in the top three.

Our friend who absolutely loves talking to commentary has all the way through.

Zach, great to have your company again, even though you have no choice to talk

to us at all.

You're up to P2 now.

As Max goes to the inside and makes the place.

And so that disappeared quickly.

All right, I believe we can hear from our remaining top three.

I had a good look over the shoulder. I can't see him yet.

Well, Max, this has been an amazing effort and you are nearly there.

The gaggle of three has become four. Bobby, you're in the middle.

And now we find ourselves with a bit of corner cutting.

That's allowed.

And so two of them have gone for the Chucky lap for the corner cut and for

the breathing room it provides.

Max isn't allowed that anymore.

And he is gonna try and go around the outside tries the up-and-under big

defensive tactics now from his country burden from Martins ahead Who's looking

good? He's not looking at the front of the car, but now he's looking alongside

And a friendly wave to a man who covers him is that what that was

cutting and getting the tactics right, absolutely crucial.

Have they taken an extra one, though? Because Martins may well have

misunderstood the assignment there if he did have an extra chucky lap because Max

has caught and passed him. Well, sometimes what happens is the race

director speaks to them, but we check in at the exact same time to ask them if

they want a pizza ordered or something afterwards.

And unfortunately, that might have left a little bit of miscommunication going.

So Martins is... done and now there are three Max Verstappen Osler and Alsop

thank you very much Max we'll let you finish the job as we see the last of the

corner cuts of the top three have a gap but they've used their jokers now

they've used the corner cutting and we have Alsop Osler and Martins as our top

three Max Verstappen closing the gap closing in I absolutely love getting the

real-time answers. What a great quirk of today that has been to have a direct

line as he closes in. Now, can they work together to stay ahead, or are we in the

final stages of Max versus 100?

They're working together as a pack. I love to see it.

three wanted to turn one doesn't feel too team working neither does that shunt

actually yeah i changed my mind yeah a lot of contact going on out there you

forget it's not a race you've just got to not get overtaken yeah when you're

out there the last person to be overtaken it's just a race

Especially this bumpy bit. It's a bit bumpy there. I don't think they've

completed the roadworks. Yeah, the only hope the field had today is that he was

going to get caught up in that melee. And now coming out of the wet corner,

Osler, who's driven brilliantly, is trying to hog the apex. We go on board

with Verstappen, who is soaring away at the back of the third card in the field.

And wonderful to see the expressions. And now it's a fully defensive drive.

Again, barely looking out the front of it.

And it is that bumpy.

He's waving at him.

He's still ahead. They're still fighting at the front as well.

They're battling at the front. And will they open the door for Verstappen? No.

Who's won? They land. He's up to second.

And Max Verstappen has one car to go to win it all.

Standing on the power as we go to the inside. This is it. This is the move.

They land.

They spin and Max Verstappen has got past all of them.

Max versus 100 is complete.

And stop the clock at 35 minutes to get past 100 go

-karts. He had a maximum of 75 minutes if he needed to.

And let's check in with the man who's just gone past 100 go-karts. Max, you

have done it.

To be honest, I really thought my first step would be a disaster, but I got

helped out a little bit with people getting super excited and crushing.

So, yeah, that helped definitely a little bit.

Absolutely amazing.

I see you had a little trick where you was kind of using your body weight.

Was that planned? Was it just like taking you back to the old days? Or was

it just like, I need to win?

What was going through your mind, Max?

Sometimes a little bit of hopping out of the corner, especially in the very low

speed, it just... I'll sometimes accelerate a bit, especially in the

start. It makes a big difference.

I know what made the biggest difference. You lost the weight. I mean, you were

literally a kilo lighter at one point. That gave you the extra pace you needed.

Yeah, I don't know what to say, what happened there.

It just opened up.

That was kind of record-breaking, though. We weren't expecting you to do

it quite that fast.

No, but my first lap was quite incredible.

There was a lot happening, and actually a few cars got stuck, and I always

managed to just be on the other side, so I didn't get stuck.

And that made me get like 60 people, I think, in the first lap, so that just...
