In this video, I'll be reviewing some

themes from the Blender extensions

website. So, this is going to be a

pretty unscripted, chill video. So, I'm

just going to be trying out some

different themes that I've never tried

before, trying out some of the more

popular themes, and I'll be kind of

reacting live to the themes. So, I've

never tried these themes before. So,

I'll let you know what I think about

them. And if you've been wanting to

customize your theme in Blender, then

hopefully this will give you some cool

theme ideas that you can try out. And

for a Blender file project as an example

to kind of check out the different

themes, I'm going to be using the

project files from my Biplane tutorial

series. So you can check out that

tutorial series with the link in the

description if you're interested. Now, I

thought it might be cool to try to make

my own theme or make a video tutorial

showing you how you can create your own

themes in Blender. If I click here on

edit and then go to the preferences,

then you can jump over to the theme

section here in the user preferences.

But what I quickly realized is that

there are like hundreds of different

settings here that you can change for

all the different settings and colors

and things. Like if you click here on

user interface, then there's a bunch

more settings just within the user

interface. And then if you close that,

there's like all of these other ones

here. And so I tried kind of fiddling

around with this. Like let's say I'm

going to go to the user interface. Let's

go to box. And then maybe I'll try

changing this item color. And you can

see like nothing is changing. So you

have to tediously go through here and

try to figure out which one even change

any of the colors that you can notice.

So, here's one that I finally found. So,

if I go to user interface, and then if I

open up the menu here, then I can go

down here to the inner. So, I can make

this maybe like, I don't know, maybe

like an orangey color or something. But

then what about all the other boxes?

What about like the blue button there

for like that motion blur? That is blue.

And what if I want to change like other

options here? Like if I go over to the

shading workspace, like what if I want

to change like these here? So, you can

see these are blue. So instead of trying

to tediously make my own theme, I just

decide to try some out that the Blender

community have already created. So if

you go to extensions.blender.org,

you can then click on this themes

button. And there's a bunch of different

themes that the Blender community has

created. Now, in this video, I'm not

going to try the genuinely disgusting

theme, even though it's so popular

because I actually made a separate

video. It's kind of a funny video where

I just kind of go through and I'm really

sarcastic and I talk about how amazing

this theme is. So if you want to check

out that video, you can find it linked

in the video description. So if we just

click here on themes and then go up

here, let's just change it to rating. So

these are like the top most rated theme.

So I'm just going to start with this

first one here. So this dark purple

green one. Now adding these themes into

Blender is actually extremely simple.

You just want to click on the get theme

button and then you can just simply drag

and drop this into Blender. So I just

have my internet browser on my other

monitor. I'm just going to drag and drop

this into Blender. And we'll just wait

here. It's checking for an extension

update. And then we're going to just

click on the set current theme and then

click on okay. And it really is that

simple. So immediately I can see the

background is darker and that is pretty

cool. I do kind of like the gray

background, but dark is pretty cool and

I definitely might be able to get used

to it. Now I did want to mention that

I'm definitely not going to permanently

switch to a different theme because I

create Blender tutorials. I want to use

vanilla Blender because I don't want it

to look a lot different and then have

especially beginners or other people who

are following my tutorial have a harder

time following along with my video. So,

if I have like a crazy theme, then they

might get confused. Some of the buttons

might look slightly different, but I am

definitely interested in trying out

these different themes. So, it installed

this theme, but what I'm going to do is

click on edit and go back to the user

preferences. And then up here on themes,

you can click here, and you can see

here's all the themes that are

installed. So, there's the Blender dark,

and this is the default one. Then

there's a light one, which let's

actually try out this one just cuz it's

already installed in Blender. And then

there's the dark purple green. So, I'll

just start with the dark purple green

one. And then you can of course click on

the save preferences button if you want

to save that as your default

preferences. So personally I don't

really like the purple color. I'm just

not a big fan of the purple. I also

think the green looks a little bit

weird. For some reason it makes me feel

like it's like a a zombie theme with

kind of a weird green color. So not a

super big fan of this one, but it is

pretty popular. It has five stars and

like tons of downloads. It has almost

40,000 downloads on the Blender

extensions. So clearly people like it.

I'm really not a fan of this like

greenish color right here and right over

here. It just looks a bit weird. There's

also this uh motion blur button which is

a little bit different. So, it's kind of

like a circular button. I definitely

prefer the check mark. That also could

be a little bit confusing if I'm making

video tutorials. People who are watching

the video might not know if it's turned

on or off, but I believe if it's turned

on, it's going to have the pink color.

Let's jump over to UV editing and see

how that's looking. So, that looks

pretty much the same. Let's jump over to

texture painting. I just want to like

try all the different modes and kind of

see what it looks like. So, it looks

like for this theme, these buttons are

like more circular. So, like the

sliders, they're a lot more circular on

the edges. Let's go over to the shading

tab. So, definitely another big problem

with this theme is you can't even see

the mix right here on the mix colors.

You just can't even read that. So,

that's like a major problem with that

theme. Um, so yeah, definitely

definitely not a big fan of this theme.

I really also don't really like the

white. it's even harder just to see like

the things that are broken up here. So,

with the original uh Blender theme, if I

just change this, you can just see it a

lot better cuz there's like a little

white outline and stuff. So, it's just a

lot easier to see things with the dark

purple. Yeah, I just really don't like

it. It's quite hard. Like these like

tabs here or these sliders are a little

bit hard to see from the background and

I'm just not a big fan of the purple.

There's this like mix here which you can

hardly read. I also don't like that the

noodles are curved. I like really

straight noodles cuz I like to organize

my nodes really well. So, I like to, you

know, like add cuts here and then kind

of move these around. So, add these

reroutes. But, if you add reroutes, then

there's like random little curving,

which I don't really like. So,

definitely not a huge fan of this theme.

Let's jump over to the compositing

though and see what the compositing

looks like. These look okay. I can see

them pretty well. Let's jump into sculpt

mode and see what sculpting look like.

So, sculpting is looking pretty similar.

If I kind of bring this up here, you can

see these here have like purple, which

is not bad. That's definitely not bad.

So, overall, not a big fan of this

theme. I'm definitely going to try the

next theme. So, the next most popular

theme is the shadow theme. So, that

looks okay. It's like a little bit

darker, and you can see it still keeps

like the blue color, that nice blue

color, which I definitely like. It looks

pretty easy to see things. So, let's

definitely try this one out. All right.

So, here's the shadow theme. So, when

you select things, it's kind of like a

nice blue color. I do like the kind of

yellow select, but the blue is

definitely okay. And then you can see

right behind here, if I move the plane

out of the way, there's a subtle

vignette. So, it's slightly lighter out

here and then slightly darker around it.

So, I definitely like that. That is

pretty nice. If I were to make my own

theme, that's definitely something that

I would probably turn on cuz it just

kind of gives like an ambient effect.

And then everything is just a bit

darker. So, it has kind of a rich dark

feel. But you can see if I just click

through things here, the kind of blue

highlight is still pretty similar. So,

that is pretty nice. So, it looks

similar, but it's just like a bit

darker. So, if I'm just looking through

here, everything is pretty easy to read.

If I just open up the outliner, this is

all pretty easy to read. And if I just

select lots of things, again, we have

kind of that orange and blue. So, the

orange is the other objects, but then

the very last object that you select is

the blue color that is consistent across

like selecting here and selecting these

objects. So, that's nice. Let's jump

over to like the UV editing. That looks

pretty similar. We can jump over to

texture painting. So, it has the blue

highlight, which I definitely like. And

if we jump over to shading, let's check

out the procedural nodes. So, it's

pretty easy to read everything here.

Let's jump over to the compositor again.

Kind of see how that's looking. Again,

pretty easy to read. And over in

sculpting, that's all looking fine. So,

this is a pretty nice theme. Definitely

a lot better than the other one. So, I

definitely like this theme, the shadow

theme. It has 47,000 downloads and a

rating of five stars. So, it's

definitely a nice theme. Definitely

theme that I could get used to. All

right. So, with the popularity, the next

most popular one is midnight blue. So,

let's check this one out. So, this one,

it looks like it has like slightly blue

colors. So, it is gray, but the gray is

just slightly towards the blue. Yeah.

So, it definitely is slightly more blue.

So, everything just is just a little bit

blue. It's okay. It's definitely easy to

see everything. Let me just like select

objects. If I go back here to the

layout, selecting objects is fine. It

also has kind of that like orange or

kind of reddish pinkish as like the

secondary selection, but then the the

main object that you select is like a

light blue. I think I like the gray

better. I still like gray better. Of

course, I'm probably going to like the

default theme the best cuz I use it so

much. Let's go over to the UV editing.

And that's pretty similar. Texture

painting pretty similar as well.

Shading, let's go to the shading here.

So, it looks like these mixes are a

little bit more of like a dark color,

which is definitely not bad. Yeah. Yeah.

So, all these colors are just like they

look a little bit darker. Instead of it

being like a bright red, it's kind of

dark. So, definitely not bad. It is easy

to read everything, which is really

important. I do like the other theme,

the previous theme that I just tried

better, but this theme is definitely

okay. All right. So, the next one is the

Groubox dark. So, let's check out this

one. Dark Blender theme based on the

Grbox color scheme. So, I have to look

that up cuz I don't know what that is.

So, I looked up Grubbox online. and I

hadn't heard about it, but it's a

popular color theme, and it's used in

editors and terminals. All right, so

here it is. So, it's definitely more of

like a gray color, which is very similar

to Blender. I think it's a little bit

lighter, though. I can also see that

like all of the text is a little bit

lighter and kind of like a yellowish

kind of color, kind of like a tannanish

peachy color. Uh, the selection is very

similar. I think the selection is pretty

much the same. So, everything has sort

of like a kind of a grayish brownish

orangey feel to it. It feels very

earthy, which I definitely like. a nice

earthy theme. Feels pretty natural.

Let's go to UV editing. All right, let's

go over to texture painting. Also,

something I completely forgot about is

video editing. So, I'm going to open up

the video editing workspace because I do

video editing with Blender. I edit all

my videos with Blender. So, I actually

forgot to add that in. It looks pretty

similar. So, for the rest of the themes,

I'll be also checking out the video

editor and seeing what the video editor

looks like. So, I just added in my

tutorial series here for my bip plane

just to kind of see what the video

editor is going to look like. I also

wanted to see what the shading looks

like. So, we'll go to shading. Let's

just select this. So, not bad. The

colors are definitely a lot different.

So, like the texture coordinate is

orange instead of red. So, definitely

things are different. So, you know, I

definitely want wouldn't want to use

this for video tutorials because a

beginner might be like, "Wait a minute,

is that the same node or is that node

different?" So, pretty cool theme, but

let's now check out the next one. All

right. Now, I don't think I'm going to

spend much time checking out this theme.

So, this is the pastel pink. I don't

know how anyone could possibly use this

theme. This is This is crazy, but let's

try it. Okay, let's try out this one. I

definitely don't like bright themes in

general for pretty much all my programs

and my Linux operating system and

everything. I pretty much have dark

theme for everything. I also have an

add-on on my internet browser which

makes everything like super dark. So, it

makes all the websites dark cuz I just

don't even like going to websites which

are light. So, I have an add-on which

makes everything dark. I just really

don't like bright themes. I think it

causes more eye strain. It's more like

bright light shooting at your eyes.

Yeah, there's no way I could use this.

This is just so ugly in my opinion.

Maybe other people like it. That's fine

if you want to use it. But yeah, it it's

like it's it's like you're in I don't

know, Candy Land or something like that.

Or who's that character from the Lego

Movie? The character I was thinking of

is Uni-Kitty in the Lego movie. I feel

like this is like Uni-Kitties Land or

Candy Land or something like this. I'll

just check through here real quick, but

I don't even need to to keep looking

through this theme. It's just too

bright. Everything is just way too

bright, and I just don't like the pink

color. Of course, to each their own. If

you guys like this theme, that's great.

You could totally use it, but there's no

way I would use this theme. All right,

so it looks like the next one is dark

pro. If I just go back here, dark pro. I

like this image right here. It's showing

that it's like pretty similar, but just

a bit darker. So, that's pretty cool. I

definitely think I could get used to

this one. All right, goodbye Pinky Land.

Goodbye Pinky Land. All right, that is

pretty nice. Pretty nice. Let's go back

to the layout here. Let's take a look at

everything. Let's select objects. So, I

like that everything is already looking

very familiar because it's very similar

to Blender, but just slightly darker.

This is definitely a theme that I could

use or get used to. I just select

everything, see how that's looking like.

So, I like that there's kind of the blue

and orange. I feel like blue and orange

are just great colors for Blender and

they work really well for highlights and

selecting things. Go over to UV editing.

Select everything there. That's fine.

Everything looks pretty similar. Let's

go to the shading. We'll select this.

So, that's really nice. Just a little

bit darker, but everything's fine. One

problem with this is that it's a little

bit hard to see the frames because the

frames are dark and then also the

background is dark. So, of course, you

could change the background or you could

also go to the side panel and somewhere

here there's a a section where you can

make the color. Yeah. So, here we go.

So, I can change the color. So, I could

like turn this up a little bit, but if I

turn this up too much, it kind of

becomes the same color as the nodes. So,

I think that is just a slight problem

with this. Like that is okay. But down

here, I can barely see this frame here.

So, that is one problem with it. But

overall, it looks pretty nice. Go to

rendering compositing. That looks fine.

these here. These are pretty easy to

read. Sculpting and then also video

editing. So, pretty nice theme. Don't

really have a big problem with this

theme. It is pretty nice. So, if you

definitely want a darker theme, this is

definitely a great one. All right, let's

go to the next one here. Alien Pink. I

already have a feeling I'm not going to

like this one just because the name

Alien Pink. Let's check it out here. So,

I guess there's just one one image. I

don't think I'm going to like this one.

It's like blue and pink. I don't know. I

mean, it's not terrible. Well, it's not

as bad as the other pink one, but let's

give it a shot. So, this one is

definitely not as bad as the other pink

one. This slight blue gradient is kind

of nice. It is a very soft look. I don't

really mind the blue here, but it is

weird how like sharp these are. You can

see this button here is like really

sharp. It just kind of is like hard to

look at. I like the smooth round

buttons. Like these here are all just

really sharp. It makes it feel like a

really old program or something. Uh

these here, it's kind of like a light

green. I'm not a big fan of that. So,

it's not a terrible theme. Like, at

least you can see things. Like, it is

easy to see stuff. I guess if you want

an alien feeling theme, you could use

this one. Um, the nodes are pretty easy

to see. So, that's good. Like, it's

pretty easy to read everything, but I

just don't like how sharp these are. It

just feels like some sort of like old

program or something. Everything's okay,

but I'm just not a big fan of the

pinkish and the green. It's just very

weird to have pink and green together.

All right, so the next one going down

here from the popularity, the next one

is plasticity. Oh, and this one says,

"This dark UI inspired theme is based

upon a popular CAD-based modeling app

called Plasticity." So, I'm going to

look this one up and see what it looks

like. All right. So, I found a beginner

tutorial for plasticity. Plasticity for

beginners. So, you can see there are

like little purple highlights kind of

like these buttons here are purple, but

it is kind of like a dark gray. Yeah,

there's like purple there. So, I

definitely think it looks really nice in

this program. That purple color just

looks really nice with the dark dark

gray. All right. Goodbye alien pink

theme. Okay, so here we are with the

plasticity theme. So with the video

editor, I really don't like this uh very

distracting purple in the background. I

definitely don't like that. Let's jump

back to the layout. Select everything.

Not a big fan of the selection. It's

just kind of an ugly white color. I

definitely also don't like the green

colors. But the purple actually is

pretty nice. I think that purple here on

the subdivision looks quite nice. Um the

purple up here. Let's go over to like UV

editing. go into edit mode. Yeah. So,

it's like a a yellow color. The yellow

color is okay. Yeah, I do like the

purple. I actually think that's kind of

cool. It's a very nice rich purple

color. So, it's definitely not bad. I

don't like the blue though. If I jump

over here to the shading, I don't really

like that blue color for the frames.

These colors kind of like this dark aqua

color I don't really like. Real quick

though, before I go to the next theme, I

forgot. I also, as well as video

editing, I wanted to try looking in the

asset browser and see how the asset

browser looks. And again, I just really

like this purple. It looks quite nice.

So, I do like the purple highlights. It

is pretty cool. All right, so the next

one is green olive. So this one looks

like it has green highlights and then

everything else is pretty gray with like

a little bit of blue. The Blender

version must be less than the maximum

version of five. Okay, so let's open up

Blender 5 to try out this theme. So

unfortunately with this theme, if you're

using Blender 5, it's not going to work.

You have to use Blender 4.5. Now the

background I'm not really a big fan of.

I think the background just needs to be

gray. Like I think gradients are okay if

you want to have like a vignette here or

a gradient, but I don't like colors

because it's just too distracting. Um,

selecting things that's okay, green as

the main one. The green uh highlight is

cool. It is easy to see things. Let's

just check through the different modes

here. Again, we have more highlights

here, more green highlights on the

brushes panel. So shading is okay. It is

pretty easy to see everything.

Everything is kind of a little bit

darker. So it's not quite as vibrant and

bright. I think if you're going to have

highlights with green, maybe these are

okay for the sliders to be green. Also,

this is another one of those themes

where everything is sharp. So, all the

boxes are sharp, which I don't really

like. Let's jump over to rendering.

Compositing,

that's okay. Sculpting. I just I don't

like the blue color. I feel like the

blue is too distracting. Video editing,

that's fine. And jump over to assets.

Now, I could spend a lot of time trying

themes because, as you can see, there

are so many themes. There's 181 results

there. But I'm gonna try the top 12 most

popular ones. So I tried these ones,

these ones, and so I'm gonna try these

two. Then after that, I'm gonna look for

some specific themes that I think I

would be interested in. So we have deep

sea dark, darker than the default dark.

So this one, it looks like there's like

some yellow and some green highlights.

All right, so here we are with the deep

dark sea. So I do like that it's dark. I

do just like dark themes. Again, I have

pretty much all the programs on my

computer all dark. Uh, the asset library

is pretty easy to see. I like this kind

of brownish orange. It's pretty nice.

It's not too bright, not too strong. The

selecting is okay. That looks pretty

nice. It's pretty easy to see

everything. The gray in the background

isn't distracting. So, that looks nice.

I don't like the green, though. Oh, man.

I I don't really like that. That's just

very, very strange to me. It feels very

strange. So, and texture painting looks

similar. So, I do like the gray

highlight. Kind of the grayish brownish

highlight. That's pretty nice, but not

the uh not the green color. Uh, in the

shader editor, everything is pretty easy

to see here. It's pretty easy to see

everything. So, that's really good.

Also, it looks like we have a check

mark, so that's good. I like the check

mark. Let's check the side panel. So,

these are pretty easy to see, and I like

that things are nice and rounded.

Rendering, compositing, sculpting, and

then video editing. So, with this theme,

I definitely like the kind of brownish

highlights, but I definitely do not like

the edit mode green color. That just

looks quite ugly. I don't like the green

in edit mode. All right. And this one is

XP alive. So, this is going to be

interesting. This is kind of like a

nostalgic one because it looks like

Windows XP. And I did use Windows XP a

long time ago. It says Blender theme

inspired by the 2000s. And it does kind

of remind me of Windows XP because it

has the green buttons here. Like there

was like a menu button down there in the

corner and it was like green. And then

there's also like the blue background

sort of like that like sky blue. It kind

of reminds me of that classic Windows XP

uh background with like the green hills

and then the blue sky. As far as like

usability, yeah, I don't like it. I

don't like the blue in the background

because I feel like colors are too

distracting. The green colors are very

ugly. This bright orange just doesn't

fit. Like where else is it a bright

orange like this? This is more of like a

funny theme. It's very light over here.

This is like way too bright. I

definitely don't like how bright this

is. This is okay, but these mix colors

are so bright that it's a little bit

hard to read the mix here. I also don't

like how sharp this is, but again, that

kind of does look like an older

operating system. So, now that we've

tried the top 12 most popular themes,

I'm going to look for a theme that I

would really like. Now, orange is my

favorite color, so I definitely want

something that's maybe orange. I also

really like dark themes, so I'm going to

make sure that a theme that I find is

definitely dark. And then I don't like

any crazy colors like green or pink or

any of those colors I really don't like.

And also with the gradient background,

that's okay. I don't really mind a

gradient, but it should be gray in the

background. So, I want to try to find a

theme which is pretty similar to the

default theme. So, nice and gray, maybe

some orange or maybe some blue. I like

blue and orange highlights. There is a

Maya theme that's kind of interesting

for Maya users with like that really

ugly blue. I just couldn't stand that

ugly blue gradient. Um, but yeah, I

guess for people who are using Maya and

want to switch to Blender, they could

use that one. Now, this theme, the yet

another orange theme, is definitely

something that I might like. Now, I did

actually try this one out like a month

ago. Um, you can see here I actually did

comment. I gave it five stars. Um, so

I'll be trying out this theme. Of

course, I have tried this one out

before, so it's not like a blind review,

but I definitely like how it looks very

similar to Blender. It's very dark, but

then it has kind of these orange

highlights. All right, so this one

hasn't been updated for Blender version

5, so we're going to have to jump into

Blender 4.5. All right, so here we are

in yet another orange theme. I do like

the orange. However, when I click on

some of these, you can see like this

one, the red is a little bit hard to see

in the world there. Like if I click on

that world, it's a little bit hard to

see because it's already red and there's

orange behind it. So, it is a little bit

here hard to see some of the buttons.

So, maybe I wouldn't like the orange on

these buttons. But, this is really nice

right up here. I really like how the

little tabs are orange. That looks quite

cool. Um, I like that these things are

orange. That looks pretty nice. Let's go

back to texture painting. I like the

orange highlights here. If I click on

the different brushes, also on

sculpting, I can click on the different

brushes and they're orange. So, that's

nice. I also like that it's just gray.

Like, there isn't any super distracting

weird colors or anything. Edit mode

looks fine. Edit mode looks very

similar, so that's not too distracting.

I like how that looks. Video editing

looks fine. And then also jump over to

assets. So, yeah. Again, this really

dark gray with the orange, it just looks

really nice. I I do really like this.

So, not a big fan of like the colors

over here. But most of the time, for

most of the spots here, I really like

that orange. So, out of all the themes

that I've tried so far, this is

definitely my favorite one. I thought it

would be also cool to look for a black

theme. So, here's a black one. And

there's also this black one. So, let's

take a look at both of these. So, that's

pretty interesting. I think I want to

try this one out. Okay. So, right now,

I'm going to try out the eclipse theme.

So, that's pretty cool. It is very dark.

I kind of don't like that everything is

super dark and you can't really see the

like squares or the boxes. There also

isn't really any like bright highlight,

but that's okay. There is gray, so gray

is okay, but this is kind of a dark

theme, so everything is supposed to be

dark. And then a white selecting, which

is okay. These boxes again, you can't

really see them, so it's a little bit

hard to see the boxes. So, I'm not a big

fan of that. I also do like kind of the

different colors. It just makes it look

a little bit nicer when these different

buttons have colors, but this is just

like all washed out. There's like no

saturation. Let's go over to UV editing.

The blue is okay, but I do like the kind

of orangey yellow better. Texture

painting. Again, there isn't really any

color there for the highlight. It's just

kind of a gray color. We can go to

shading. I don't really like how dark

this is. It's just too dark. These just

feel too dark to me. I don't really like

that. So, it is a good theme if you want

very dark colors, but I wouldn't really

like this. It's just a little bit too

dark for me. And also, I don't like that

the colors, some of the colors here are

just gone. All right. All right. So, at

the very end of the video, what I'm

going to do is actually try the Blender

light theme. I don't like light

programs. I feel like it causes more eye

strain. I don't really like the light

colors. It just feels kind of off and

kind of weird. It still is kind of gray,

though. If you look at these different

colors here on the back, it's still

gray. Even though it's a light theme, it

still kind of has a grayish look. It

just feels kind of ugly to me. So, not a

big fan of the light theme. So, if you

want to try your own Blender themes, you

can definitely check out the Blender

extensions page at

extensions.blender.org.

The link will be in the video

description. I'll also have a link to

some of my more favorite themes like

this orange theme. And if you have a

favorite theme that you like to use on

the Blender extensions, definitely let

me know what it's called in the video

comments and I can check it out. So, I

hope you enjoyed the video and thank you

for watching.
