Greetings hobbyists. This is Artisan of
Vool and in this video we're having a
look at ball tool 2.0.
So if you don't already know what ball
tool is, it's a huge timesaver. What it
allows you to do if I just shift and D
to duplicate this object is that instead
of having to go through the long- winded
process of adding in a boolean modifier,
we can just click an object, shiftclick
the object we want to boolean it out of,
and press control and minus, and then it
is going to cut out that boolean. Or we
could press controll and plus if we want
to do a union boolean or we can control
and the asterisk if we want to do an
intersection boolean. And what's really
cool about this is you can do multiple
booleans at the same time. So if I
shiftclick there and then there it will
boolean the objects out of the last one
that's selected. So a huge timesaver
compared to setting up these modifiers
individually. Now what you might not
know is that bull tool comes with an
additional part to it and that is called
carver just here on the T panel called
that because if you don't have it up you
can hit T to bring it out and box carve
is pretty nice effectively you can just
click on it and you can draw with it and
it's going to cut through the object.
Now this instantly does a boolean and if
you come into view which is what this
works off of. You can do it off of
cursor as well but view is generally
best. You can just cut into an object
really easily. Now, this did have some
limitations before. If I just come in
here and we control and B to bevel this
and just do a single segment bevel.
Trying to get this perfectly on the view
was a little bit annoying to get this
flat on. Oh, this does need to be in
object mode. So, there we go. It was a
bit annoying. You could get around it.
If we hit three, go to face mode and
shift and seven, you can perfectly align
yourself to a face. go into object mode
and then we can do this pretty okay but
it gets a bit tedious and then you'll
notice we're automatically in our
horrible athographic mode so we have to
hit something like one and then get back
out of it. So great but a little bit
tedious. Now the amazing change if we
just go to edit preferences and get
extensions is B tool has updated. So
we'll just update this to 2.0. Let's go
back to our add-ons and type in B. And
you can see we've now got ball tool 2.0.
And if you don't have autosave
preferences on, click save preferences.
Now, this has added a load of additional
options in terms of our alignment.
Probably the most important of which is
the surface option. Now, what this means
is I do not need to go face onto an
object to be able to click and it
automatically aligns our boolean to the
surface. So, this is already a massive
improvement. The other thing that we've
got here is that you've got some depth
options. You have auto, which cuts all
the way through. You have 3D cursor,
which will cut up to the 3D cursor in
that orientation. So, for example, if we
come here and just cut in there, it goes
up to the 3D cursor in terms of the
thickness, which is nice. But probably
the most important one is we now have
manual. So, I can now click here,
release, and then drag in. We can see
how far it's going and click, which is
absolutely beautiful. And we can do this
now on here as well without having to go
into that view, which is a bit annoying
to get out of. Look how good that is.
And at any time, we can come back to our
boolean cutter, which is just up here.
Bring it back. We can always modify this
if we want to. Let's say N, and change
some of our sizes. If I have a
particular thickness that I want. So,
for example, our Z axis is the one that
goes in and out of this object. Now,
what's really cool about this is you can
see at the moment this is not going to
move perfectly. Well, it is, but it's
moving from the center. We can even do
things if we just come out of this and
undo it like coming to cutter and set
our origin instead of to the geometry of
our original object to the first face
that's being cut. What this will now
mean is if I do this and then go in is
that if we bring our boolean cutter back
and we select it, our origin is on this
face. Which means now if we choose our Z
direction, it is going to be a pretty
direct control of thickness. Though do
note there is a slight little bit of
overlap there. And again, if you really
want to, we can do something about that
too. I can come into shape and put my
offset as let's say 0.0. 0 01 and that
is going to be so close to zero that
when I do this and get it and then bring
it back you can suddenly see that we
have our object origin really close. So
our depth here if I put this up to one
is probably pretty close to perfectly
one. Yes, it's got a tiny little bit
off. It's slightly not on it to stop
faceing but again some really beautiful
options. Now, the other thing that we
can do if we just come back into our
preferences is we can set a lot of these
up to be automatic. For example, we've
got the solver as float automatically. I
actually think manifold is a little bit
better. We automatically have this to
set the cutter to be parented to the
object, which is very nice. You can set
this to automatically be destructive
booleans, which means that you don't get
the modifier if you want, but I probably
wouldn't choose to do that. Let's just
save those preferences. And what I mean
by parenting, if you don't know, is that
if I select this object here and press
G, all of our booleans move with it. So
really, really nice. Let's just A X and
delete all of those and bring in a new
cube.
Now, there are some other bits that we
can do as well with this. I have
mentioned them previously on a video,
but I will go through them here cuz
there's been a couple of changes as
well. Let's just change that to manifold
cuz it is better. And we're having to do
that this time because we've only just
changed the setup in our settings. Now,
just so you know, if we click here, you
have other options. For example, we
could do a circle just like that and
start cutting in, which is pretty handy.
You'll also notice that where I start
clicking is the center of this circle.
You can also change that. So, if I
change the origin to the edge, and then
click, you'll notice that that becomes
the corner. So, this is quite useful if
you wanted to do something, let's say,
from this corner and make sure that
everything was relatively equal. You'll
also see that this is perfectly equals
sided. If we hold down shift, we can
actually manipulate that so it's more of
an oval if that's something you want to
do. I mean, there are a lot of options
here. I'm not going to go through
everything. But, I also want to mention
there's a polyline carve. So, we can
just come in and start doing things like
there to there to there to back to here.
Click and then drag in. So you can set
your perfect shapes or we can start
doing things like cutting corners off if
you want to.
So there we go. So that's an option as
well. Though I would like this to snap
to 15° or 5° increments, which
apparently is coming. So this is pretty
exciting. The other thing we can do, and
I did mention this in the video before,
is that we can do a box. And you'll
notice that we've got some options at
the bottom. So I could bevel this. If I
hold down B, then you'll notice that
we've beveled this. And then I can click
and drag in. And another big change, if
we come to the cutter, if we select it,
is that the bevel is actually a modifier
now, whereas before it wasn't. So I can
up these segments to something like 16.
Let's just zoom in on this corner where
it's not very rounded. I could up this
to 16 if I wanted to. And I can come in
and have some fine control on this bevel
after the fact, which is pretty tasty.
Let's just undo that. And we'll talk
about our last thing, which is that if I
do decide to do this as well, it's also
even easier now to start adding in an
array. And you'll notice we've now got
an array. How good is that? So, we can
automatically start arraying objects.
Let's do that nice and small. And if you
want to change the distance between your
arrays, you can hit A and hold it down.
and that allows you to change the
distance between them. So, we've got
that there as an option. Now, there is
some slight limits on how much we can do
with that depending on where your mouse
is. So, this isn't perfect, but what I
would say is once we've done that is
that if we come to the object again and
select it, we've got the array options
here. So, I can always change the gap
before or afterwards and change the
amount of columns. You can also love
this do this in rows. So I could up
these and then let's just G and z that
down and we've got something like that.
Now just some limiting points. These
gaps are entirely proportional. So if I
do decide to go into this A, S, and Z,
we can sort of affect everything as we
would normally expect to. But we don't
have anything that will allow us to do
this based on absolute units. it's
always going to be as a ratio. The other
thing that I'll say is if you do want to
do these, I would actually argue that
it's easier to set up a lot of this
stuff before you do it. For example, if
I come here, I can set up my array
already. So, let's put that to two and
let's put the columns to let's say
three. And then as soon as I start
cutting, we automatically get that
effect. So, there we go. That was a very
quick run through of some of those
changes that I've noticed. But obviously
this is a video so you can go back and
re-watch things as you choose to if I
went through anything a little bit
quick. And also I've kind of noticed
more people watch the videos when
they're shorter. So hopefully that's
going to help with that and get people
to see what is a really awesome tool and
you never hear people talk about it. Now
this is kind of a bit like to me a box
cutter light. Now don't get me wrong,
there's a lot that this can't do in
comparison to box cutter. So definitely
don't think that this replaces box
cutter. But if you're still on the fence
on using something like Box Cutter, this
might give you an idea of some of the
very basics it can do. But Box Cutter
does still do quite a lot more. I will
put a link in the description to a
playlist on Box Cutter as well as the
other video that goes through Carver in
a lot more detail, so you can check that
out as well if this was a bit quick.
Anyway, hopefully that's some exciting
news in terms of what this add-on can
do. It is a totally free add-on and I
imagine a lot of you are using B tool
already and just didn't realize that
this was an option or what that update
to B 2.0 has actually done. If you did
