♫ Worlds away from anyone
♫ They were playing songs I've never sung
♫ Worlds away from anyone
♫ They were playing songs I've never sung
♫ And it was just enough to get them far away
♫ Ooooh
- The Board Riders' Association had grown.
There were so many members now,
meetings were getting out of control
(door creaking) (group chattering)
Okay, come on everybody.
Come on, listen up.
(group chattering)
(thumping)
Everybody, come on.
(loud whistling)
- We've got a lot to get through.
So let's just get on with it, hey?
- [Lockie] And the most stressful thing about meetings?
Making decisions.
Decisions are hard.
How do you know if you're gonna make the right one or not?
- Okay.
Surf carnival, two weeks time.
Out first ever surf-off against Nala Springs.
And as president, I have to pick the teams.
- Look, if you're gonna be secretary,
you gotta take notes.
- Who put you in charge?
(thudding)
- Look, let's just get these teams sorted.
- Sorry guys, I need to talk to you for a minute
about youth camp.
(groaning)
No, it's gonna be great this year.
It's called Camp Find Yourself.
- What if you're not lost?
(group laughing)
- Look guys,
this is an opportunity to discover a whole world
of stuff about yourselves.
You know, every day we'll gather together
and talk.
About you.
Well, it won't all be work.
You know, there'll be bush walking and canoeing.
And there's ping pong.
(oohing)
Alright, I need an indication of those who might
be interested in coming along.
- What parents are going?
- There'll be some teachers.
But,
no parents.
(shuffling)
(group chattering)
- [Lockie] Over at his place,
Egg was struggling with a meeting of his own.
- Geoffrey, sweetheart,
I'm going away for a while.
- [The Rev] Your mother's going away for a while.
- There's an art gallery in the city,
they wanna talk to me.
- Art gallery, in the city.
- I think we understand.
- Well, how long are you going for?
- Well,
they might give me some work.
I might have to stay there for a while.
I'd love for you to come and live with me, if you want?
- Or, you could stay here.
It's totally up to you.
- [Mother] It's your decision, Geoffrey.
- [Lockie] Suddenly, Egg felt like he'd been thrown
into the middle of some weird game show.
(audience cheering) (upbeat music)
(laughing)
- Okay folks, it's time to play,
The Clock's Ticking.
(audience applauding) (audience cheering)
The show where you get asked to make a decision,
a very big decision that can change
your entire life.
(ticking)
And our first contestant today is,
Joy?
- Thanks, Sarge.
Yes, all the way from Angeles,
it's Geoffrey Egg Eggleston.
- Oh (chuckles).
(audience applauding)
Oh, and here he comes.
Egg man, your decision is,
whether to stay with the Rev,
or leave with Mom?
(audience oohing)
What's your decision?
And remember, the clock's ticking!
(audience applauding) (audience cheering)
(ticking)
(whooshing)
- Can I go to school camp?
It's called Camp Find Yourself.
And maybe if I find myself, I'll know what to think
'bout all this.
- Camp Find Yourself, what a name.
Sounds a bit wet.
- I don't care if it's called Camp Smash Yourself
in the Leg, there's no parents.
- There's ping pong.
- Hardly any teachers.
We could spend some time together.
Just you and me.
- Yeah, we could hang out.
Do stuff.
- So we're going, right?
- Sure, why not?
- This could be really, really good.
For both of us.
- Yeah, apparently there's canoeing.
(birds chirping)
- [Vicki's Dad] Isn't it funny (drowned out by Lockie).
- [Lockie] Vicki was keen on the camp thing.
Like Egg, home wasn't the best place to be
at the moment.
- [Vicki's Mom] Don't you ever think about anybody
but yourself?
- [Vicki's Dad] You don't keep quiet long enough
for me to think at all.
(door slamming)
(upbeat music)
- [Lockie] When the big day came,
everyone was psyched.
(group chattering)
Vicki and I were looking forward to hanging out,
just the two of us.
Egg was all fired up to find himself,
and Boof?
- Out of the way, nobody touch my stuff.
- [Lockie] Well, he was Boof.
- You've all been divided into work teams,
and each team has a task, okay?
As you were.
- We're on the same team.
- Cool.
- And, we got kitchen duty.
- I bags the top bunk.
No arguments.
- On the walls, you'll each find an envelope
with your name on it, this is for personal comments.
(coughing)
- Comments?
- Well, if you wanna tell somebody something,
you write it down and you put it in their envelope.
- I don't understand, sir.
- You wanna tell Geoffrey Eggleston
that he's a great gut?
- Nup.
(group laughing)
- Well, you take a piece of paper,
and you write down, Geoff, you're a great guy.
You go to this envelope here,
in it goes, Geoff, happy reading.
Any more questions?
- [Boof] Where's the ping pong?
- In the games room.
Now, what I really...
(shuflling)
Uh-uh-uh.
Dinner'll need to be ready by six o'clock sharp.
So get to it.
- Egg, what are you doing?
- You told me to cook the potato.
- You don't stir fry a whole potato.
You boil them in water.
(sighing)
(sighing)
This is hopeless.
- Dial-A-Pizza's looking pretty good.
- We can't Dial-A-Pizza,
we're on kitchen duty.
If we don't have any food for anybody,
they're gonna think we can't cook.
- They're right, you can't.
(sighing)
- Well, I'm giving it a go.
And besides, it's the rules.
- Who cares about the rules?
We could hide down by the beach.
Have some private time, just us,
away from everybody.
- No way.
I'm not failing the test on my first day.
- Okay, cut me up some onions.
Egg, what are you doing?
- Finding myself.
And the self I'm finding is useless at cooking.
- Oh well, you can learn.
What else have we got?
(rock music)
Egg, salt.
♫ You use the creamer with your coffee
♫ You use the creamer with your tea
(utensils banging rhythmically)
♫ Perhaps we've got some hot chocolate
♫ Perhaps won't you answer me
♫ What do you think
- Pasta Neopolitana.
Help yourselves. ♫ What do you think
♫ Do you think I'm killing you with kindness
♫ You have to mind your Ps and Qs
♫ Well wasn't that a huge sign
- It's okay.
- [Lockie] When you have your best friend
and girlfriend beside you, working as a team,
♫ What do you say
cooking isn't so bad.
♫ Hey hey, what do you say
And it sure beats cleaning up.
♫ What do you say
♫ Please
Hey Egg, are you coming to play ping pong?
- No thanks.
- Really?
You don't wanna play?
- Maybe later.
- Are you sure you don't wanna come?
- Yeah.
- Are you alright?
- [Egg] Yeah.
- Do you want me to hit you with a shoe?
- My mom's leaving.
I don't think she's coming back.
(melancholic music)
- Whoa.
- She said I have to decide
between going to the city with her,
or staying here in Angeles with the Rev.
- What are you gonna do?
(whooshing)
- The clock's still tickin'. (ticking)
(audience applauding) (audience cheering)
(whooshing) (melancholic music)
- I haven't made up my mind yet.
- But you can't go to the city.
Angeles is where you live.
All your friends are here.
Why do you have to make the decision?
- I don't know, I just do.
- Lockie, come quick.
You gotta see this.
Quickly, you gotta come see.
- What?
- I can't tell you, you've gotta see.
- I'll be there later.
- No, you need to come now.
(footsteps)
- What's happening?
- Boof's singing.
- That's my surprise?
Boof's singing?
- He dancing and everything, come on.
- I don't think I can.
- Oh, shh.
- Look,
Egg's having a hard time.
His mom and dad are splitting up.
- Well maybe they should.
- You don't mean that.
- Why not?
Do you think it's fun watching your parents fight
all the time?
(sighing)
- I don't think I should leave him
hanging out by himself.
- Right.
(footsteps)
(sighing)
Egg, come with us!
Come watch Boof make a fool of himself.
(audience applauding) ♫ Twinkle, twinkle
♫ Little star
♫ How I wonder what you are
- [Lockie] Take people camping,
away from their parents, their normal lives,
♫ Up above the world so high
and all of a sudden, they don't know who they wanna be.
♫ Like (whooshing)
(audience applauding) (audience cheering)
- Okay, Boof, what's your decision?
Who do you wanna be?
The old Boof who nobody much likes?
(audience booing)
Or a brand new, all singing, all dancing, likeable Boof?
(audience applauding)
And remember, the clock's tickin'.
(audience applauding) (audience cheering)
(whooshing)
(rock music)
- Boof decided to be new and improved.
And Sasha liked what she saw.
And even weirder?
Everyone else started pairing off, too.
It was like couples' club or something.
And everyone in the room was a member.
Well, almost everyone.
♫ The only one in the room
♫ Well I played a few songs for those bumps in the night
♫ In fact I played this very tune
♫ You said, what is this six-stringed instrument
♫ But an adolescent loom Egg!
♫ And one crowded hour would lead to my wreck and ruin
Egg!
I don't know where he is.
- Maybe he just wants to be alone for a while.
Come on. ♫ And one crowded hour
♫ Would lead to my wreck and ruin
♫ Oh that one crowded hour
♫ Would lead to my wreck and ruin
- Okay.
Everyone,
go to your envelopes.
(group chattering)
So, who's gonna read out their personal comments first?
Vicki?
- Can I borrow your surf ski?
I don't have a surf ski.
- That was meant for Whack.
- You didn't write me a message?
- Geoffrey Eggleston.
What have you got?
(paper rustling)
- Angeles is a lot cleaner than the city.
- That's true.
- Well, I don't know what that has to do with anything.
Give us another one, Geoff.
- There are better beaches in Angeles.
How many messages have you written me?
- Sir, I've got a positive comment.
- Oh, that's...
Mildly astounding.
- I'd like to share it with the group.
Dear Boof, you are one very special block.
- Bloke.
It says bloke.
- Oh.
(group oohing)
- Okay, blue team.
Your job is to hide yourself somewhere in this area.
Red team, your job is to find them and tag them.
- How do you tag them?
- You hit 'em with one of these.
(group chattering)
If you get hit, you're out of the game.
And you've only got three eggs each so be careful.
I'm gonna give one egg each to the blue team,
and if you hit someone on the red team,
they're out of the game.
The winner of this event gets to go canoeing
all afternoon.
- Canoeing!
- Alright blue team, you have 30 seconds
to find your hiding places.
Starting...
Now.
(group chattering)
(footsteps)
- Lockie.
Lockie.
Lockie, here.
(footsteps)
- [Lockie] Egg got teamed up with the new Boof.
(painful groaning)
- My foot's hurting,
got a spike in it. - Shh.
They tag us, we're out.
- I know that.
They've only got two eggs.
We've got six, seven counting you, Egg.
- Ha, that's funny.
See ya.
(birds chirping)
- Hey, wait.
My foot's hurting.
Get us something to lean on, will ya?
- [Lockie] Egg had a feeling the new Boof
was never gonna last.
- Hurry up, egg head.
- [Lockie] And he was right.
(slow romantic music)
- Are we, I mean, are you gonna stay here?
- Yeah, why not?
- I should go hide somewhere else then.
- Why?
- Because if we're together,
we'll both get tagged at once.
- So?
- So we'll lose the game.
- So? ♫ Takes me
- So, I should go hide somewhere else.
- Don't be stupid. ♫ Away
- Shhh.
What was that?
- Dingoes, come back here.
- No, seriously.
I heard something.
- Lockie.
- If we win this, we get to go canoeing.
- Haven't you ever been canoeing?
- Yeah, with Egg.
It was heaps of fun.
Maybe we should do it again sometime.
To cheer him up.
- Can you stop thinking about Egg for five seconds?
There's nothing you can do,
none of this is your decision.
- But what if he goes with his mom to the city?
He's my best mate, I don't want him to leave Angeles.
- Just,
let Egg sort it out, okay?
So we can spend some more time together,
like we promised.
- Okay, Lock-meister. (audience applauding)
(audience cheering) What's your decision?
And remember, the clock's tickin'.
(audience applauding) (audience cheering)
(ticking)
(whooshing)
- You don't care, do you?
You don't care that Egg's family's all messed up.
- Of course I care.
- No, you don't.
(sighing)
All you care about is us being a couple.
- (grunts) Lockie.
- Shh, keep your voice down.
(egg cracking)
(sinister music)
- Oh my God.
- I can't believe you just did that.
- It's only a game, Lockie.
For kids.
- I'm a kid.
I like being a kid.
(yelling)
(eggs cracking)
- Ah!
Ah!
Ah!
(cheering)
Come on, Boof.
(cheering)
(upbeat music)
- [Lockie] Before we knew it,
Camp Find Yourself was over.
It was time to go back home, back to our parents,
back to being who we were.
- Hey, Sasha!
- As if.
(engine churning)
- [Lockie] For some of us though,
things were way weird.
And if Egg had made a decision about his parents,
he wasn't letting on.
Whether any of us had found ourselves,
I couldn't really tell.
One thing I did figure out though,
I realised why Vicki wasn't so keen
to talk about Egg's messed up family.
(muffled yelling)
Compared to the Streetons,
Egg's family weren't looking so messed up anymore.
At least his parents cared enough to do something
to stop the fighting.
Even if it was tough for Egg.
- I don't,
I don't wanna make a decision.
- That's okay, you don't have to--
- But,
I'm gonna make one.
Because I think it's cool that you're letting me decide
for myself.
And,
the only thing I've figure out
is that it's got nothing to do with stuff like,
I like my mom better than my dad, or my dad better
than my mom, or anything like that.
- We know that, sweetheart.
- I'm gonna stay here,
with Dad.
(melancholic music)
I like you.
- I like you too.
- While Egg was sorting stuff out,
I decided to fix things up with Vicki.
(birds chirping)
I'm sorry.
- About what?
- You have enough family hassles of your own
without me going on about Egg's.
- That's my business.
- Yeah, but...
Wanna go along the beach or something?
- Nah, I don't think so.
I love you.
I do, I love you.
And I want you to be in love with me.
- What does that mean?
- It means that you wanna be with me
more than anything else.
More than chocolate, and more than canoeing.
And more than Egg.
- Yeah.
I like you more than all of that put together.
- That's more like it.
- But I still don't know if I love you.
- You either love me, or you don't.
- I just don't know.
I mean...
(sighing)
I'm 13.
I don't know if I'm ready to be a couple.
Yet.
Oh no, please don't cry.
- Don't touch me.
- Vicki.
- It's over.
Finished.
- Listen.
- And none of this let's just be friends crap, okay?
(dramatic music)
- [Mom] Lockie?
- Hey.
- Dinner's nearly ready.
- Okay.
(sighing)
(sniffing)
- Come here.
(sobbing)
(car door thudding)
(engine roaring)
(group chattering)
- Okay.
We've still got to organise the teams
for tomorrow's surf carnival.
- And we've gotta decide who goes
in the big ticket surf-off.
- All those who vote Boof.
- Put your hands up.
- All those who vote Lockie.
It can't be official anyway,
the stupid club secretary is not here to record it.
- She doesn't record anything
even when she is here.
- I vote we kick her out of the Association.
- [Boof] Yeah.
- You're not kicking her out.
- Why not?
What do you care?
She dumped you.
- She never dumped me.
- [Boy With Curly Hair] Yes she did.
Who wants her out?
- I hate decisions.
They tear your brain in half.
(suspenseful music) But sometimes,
if you get them right, they can really make you happy.
That's it, I quit.
Get yourself another club president.
- You quit just 'cause I bagged out Vicki?
- [Boy With Curly Hair] What about the surf-off?
- [Lockie] On the day of the surf carnival,
I hit the waves too.
At a different beach, on the other side of town.
Thought I'd host my own surf-off.
Easiest decision I'd made in ages.
(rock music)
♫ Oooh
♫ Oooh
♫ Oooh
♫ Board is breaking
♫ Underneath the weight of strain
♫ Hey
♫ Hey
♫ Miles away from anyone
♫ They were playing songs I've never sung
♫ Walked away from anyone
♫ They were playing songs I've never sung
♫ There was just enough to get that far away
♫ Ooh
