Is it easy to make a chain link fence in

Blender? The idea in achieving this kind

of link is in the use of the bridge tool

cuz if we have two faces in the same

object, even if they face a different

direction, we can still select them

both, bridge them and smooth the

connection. Now with this in mind we can

add a cube or a sphere yet the cube is

lighter here and delete the faces on one

of the axis say like the Y then extend

the cube on the same axis.

Next we need to rotate this by 45. Then

from the top hit shift D to copy this

inside the object cuz we still in edit

mode. Move the copy to the side a bit

and rotate it by 180 to flip it.

You can adjust the spacing between those

two parts. But you should get something

like this cuz now we can select the top

ring edges from both sides and

rightclick to bridge them. In the popup

menu of the bridge, increase the number

of cuts to smooth the connection and

make it as a curve.

After that, hit A to select all and make

a copy on the Yaxis again. And repeat

the same bridge connection from the

bottom side to add a curve in there.

Highlight all again by hitting A and

copy it to the top. Then rotate it by

180 to flip it and move that down to

past the main shape. So they twist on

each other now. And a simple subdivision

surface will make the look pop up.

You can array this on both horizontal

and vertical axis to make the fence. You

might end up with weird fence shape if

you leave it like that. But we can

delete some of the side vertices. So the

shape intersect in the array without any

issue.

So add two array modifiers to make the

fence to the size you want. You can also

rescale this shape, but always control A

and apply scale after that so you don't

run into other issues. The merge

checkbox is available in the array

modifier if you want to weld the closed

vertices, but I think it will go fine

without it and the merge might do some

shading problems. And that's about it.

Give it a try. Might be fun. and save it

in a place you will never find. Stay

sharp. Goodbye.
