We're out here stranded, trying to survive

and dealing with so much drama

and complaining.

Right now we're not thriving.

Honestly, I just needed to get away from camp

for a little bit.

Try my luck at some fishing.

...among the ruins of centuries of shipwrecked vessels.

We're essentially grave robbers

of some washed-up sailor

who died on these rocks.

With tensions already high on their island...

I just don't feel like the conversation that

so I'm just going to focus on what needs to be done.

I may not always agree with how Patrick talks to people,

but we need his experience to help get us

safely off this island.

He's made every challenge to the end.

There's a reason for that.

[Ally] I've noticed a theme with Patrick that he tends to

belittle people in order to

feel like a bigger person himself.

Like saying like, "Hey, reminder, you [bleep] up."

Like that is really not helpful whatsoever.

But I am out here to prove to myself that I can do this.

And to prove to other people,

I'm a lot tougher than you think.

I had a lot of regrets about bringing a bow and arrow,

but with this net, I feel like a million bucks.

I've never fished before in my life,

but if I don't know how to do something,

I'm gonna be resourceful

and figure out how to do it.

and there's very few coconuts.

There's hardly any fishing to be done.

I got stung by a jellyfish.

After migrating to a new beach location...

I think we ended up in the deadliest cove.

[Dani] Is getting a good night of sleep more of a priority than

starting building a raft? I would say so.

I'd rather eat and get no sleep

I think the raft is a priority.

Hopefully, we're out of here and into another place that has

fruit and all kinds of stuff.

-[Dani] Yeah. -[Jamie] Jarrell right now is

actually trying to convince us to help

build a raft.

Part of survival is about having an open mind

and understand each other's opinions.

[Dani] OK, you want to go over a blueprint?

We do need it to find different lands

that may have fruits on it.

Also, it will help with fishing.

[Jarrell] And we're building a smaller raft.

[Dani] I think starting with something like that.

That wooden crate that I've been sleeping on?

That can act as, like, the seat in the middle.

[Jamie] Keeps us off the water a bit better as well.

-[Dani] Yeah. -Well, I would just like less weight

and for it to work. You know?

[Jarrell] I've never built a raft personally,

so I'm kind of just listening to them,

going with their game plan.

So, how about let's start building with this plan.

We can, of course, make mods as we go.

[Jamie] We just need to find some bamboo for structure.

So here's a few patches of the green bamboo.

-[Dani] We can make paddles with that. -[Jamie] Wow!

[Dani] And then there's all this brown we can use

to build our raft. It'll be very buoyant.

[Jamie] This is more than enough to build a raft.

Just perfect.

[Dani] So how many pieces do you guys want?

I'm thinking of just -- we need to just minimize.

I feel like on this team, there's definitely some aspects

where I need to be more of the leader role.

I don't believe my partners have built a raft before...

Haven't had much luck because the weather's

so I'm gonna get straight in and try to catch some fish.

It feels weird not to have Jonny here.

I think Mandy and I are definitely still feeling it.

11 days after being shipwrecked...

I'm facing a potentially lethal situation with my body.

because we no longer have that third person?

It's called Lost Coast because, you know,

And now the Lost Coast has taken Jonny.

So I'm gonna do everything in my power to make sure

the Lost Coast does not take Adam and I as well.

I'm gonna look for some hermit crabs.

Adam grabs his fishing line. I'm gonna go forage.

Just in case he doesn't grab fish, I have a backup.

There's one. I would love more.

I know how badly we need these extra calories.

The snails, the little crabs, the limpets, like,

they're great, but they're a very minuscule amount.

There's one, that's kinda small.

Especially for all the activities

that we're doing.

Damn it.

It snagged me.

I'm pretty sure I have a fish,

and it snagged me in a bit of a rock.

-It's pretty wild. -[Mandy] Really crazy.

The conditions in this water, it's a bit rough,

but I feel pretty confident

that we can get that little bit of a win.

I think I'm going to pull a bit of a high-risk maneuver.

These rocks are so sharp, it takes one wrong slam.

Over a week into the challenge...

[Darrin] We just got to engineer this one piece at a time.

The team of Darrin, Malu and Ana Lis work together...

water delivery project...

...but have yet to score

their first big source of protein.

[Darrin] At least I have unlimited coconuts,

because I like my coconuts.

Still fat, still got my belly.

It's all coconut oil in there.

[Ana Lis] This island looks wonderful,

but I'm having nightmares

every night, and I'm in troubles here.

I need food, and...

...and meat.

You know, this place seems like paradise, but we've only

got a couple hundred yards of beach.

This isn't an easy place.

I can see why a lot of people

have failed to survive here, at least long-term.

-[hissing] -Ooh.

[Ana Lis] I know they are dangerous,

but I know that I'm hungry.

In my opinion, if you are a survivalist,

you have to eat all what you can.

You can eat it with the skin, too.

I lost my appetite.

[Ally] I really love the idea of

repurposing this old fishing net I found

into a sort of gill net.

It looks like I'm doing absolutely nothing over here,

but I've actually been meticulously tying

very small pieces of fish net back together.

This is a gill net which is very fine and invisible

in the water, so fish pretty much swim right into it

and their gills get stuck.

So when you pull the net out of the water...

the fish come right along with it.

[Shawn] How you doing with that net?

[Ally] I have almost finished untangling,

but I need to get some things that are gonna be

buoyant to line the top of the fishing net.

I've been looking for an opportunity to harness

my ingenuity using my knowledge of plants and trees.

OK, so I am looking for

these big seed pods that are

bright green and likely

not very close to the ground.

Ah, look at that one. Whoo!

All right, that one is perfect.

I'm thinking of using these seeds

to help keep the top afloat.

Now I know that these things float in water, but I'm gonna

do a buoyancy test. I need to see it to believe it.

The ocean is our biggest resource,

and I am not a water person.

I've fished maybe two times in my life.

So I'm really trying to put myself out there

and come up with ideas,

even though that's not my forte.

It floats!

So, we need to get the rocks here.

Now on the bottom of the net to weigh it down,

I put some rocks

inside of some different fishing net.

Otherwise, the tide will take it away.

In place of man-made floats,

Ally will attach the naturally-buoyant plant pods

along the top to keep the net suspended,

while the bags of rocks will anchor the net

in place and keep it taut.

[Ally] Are you going to be able to help me with the net?

-Yep. -OK.

Oh, I hope this works.

[Patrick] Allison was really dead set on

setting this fishing net,

and I'm feeling really good.

It's a good idea.

Setting this net could give us food.

You gotta keep trying.

OK, so now we've got three rocks,

one to each end and one in the middle.

Cool.

I am really proud of myself

for the idea with the gill nets.

Are you ready to get into the water and set this thing?

[Patrick] Yes.

[Ally] Patrick is gonna be the one taking in the rocks,

which will weigh down the bottom of the net

to ensure it doesn't drift.

And I'm gonna be taking in the buoys.

We're placing it in between a section of rocks here

while the tide is calm.

See it's all, like, spread out.

Yeah, that's awesome.

If my idea works, the net will remain spread and stay

one place and won't drift.

Already see fish near the net.

-And these bobbers, look how perfect they are. -[Patrick] Right?

All right, let's get out -- I want to get out of its way

before I tangle up the net.

Dude! Very, very cool.

[Ally] We were able to set it to where it looks like it's

open up, and it's got a good chance of catching a fish.

It's all about harnessing what you find out here

and coming up with creative ideas

on how to reuse those discoveries to aid

in your survival.

I really think that this is gonna work.

Looks like I gotta dig the spring out a little bit

deeper because I can't dip the whole pot in.

But, uh, should fill up quickly.

You know, our plumbing project

down from the spring is working great.

We have water and shelter.

You know, we have the basics of survival,

but we need to figure out

how to up our food game.

I need some protein coming in soon.

And then we need to figure out how to get off this island.

I'm kind of interested to know,

what's this other house symbol on the map?

Maybe there's other edible foods up there that were part

of a garden at one time. Someone's little farmstead.

-[Darrin] Good morning. -Morning.

I'm going to try to find this other house up here.

I don't know, maybe there's something up there we can use.

If you get stuck up there, you're going to

Looking at that map, it is far, far, far away.

And I'm concerned how much it's going to take out of him

and the dangers of it.

To reach the unknown structure on the map, Darrin plans to

follow a dry creek bed into the thick jungle south of camp.

It is a steep ascent into the prime habitat for

the Philippine pit viper,

whose hemotoxic venom causes severe pain, tissue damage,

and internal bleeding.

Snakes [chuckles].

So, please be so careful.

[Darrin] Yep, I will.

We don't know yet, how we're going to find rescue.

It could be hiking over the mountains to signal a ship

or navigating the ocean to find it.

But the more you know about your area,

the better off you are.

You have to find resources,

and you won't do those sitting

in the same spot every day.

You have to push yourself 110% every single day in survival.

I'll just pull out all the long ones so that

we can choose. -[Jamie] That's a nice, big, long one.

-Yeah. -[Jamie] Hold on, I'll grab an end here.

Now we can start really working on our raft, which is gonna

help us with fishing.

[Jamie] It feels like we're coming together as a team

and really getting stuff done.

[Jarrell] Look at my guy, Jamie, putting in that work, man.

Dani's out here getting it.

[Dani] When designing the raft, I came up with

this tic-tac-toe-shaped board that resembles the local rafts.

And then the more raised it is, the more, like, safe you'll be.

Based on an ancient Filipino design,

Dani's bamboo raft will

be formed with three long, vertical poles

lashed to two horizontal poles

and then tied and tapered at both ends

to minimize water resistance.

Two outriggers will provide stability,

but her modified design will add

a raised wooden crate as a bench to sit on.

If someone that's sitting at the back here...

their feet are in the water here.

[Dani] You really want your feet in the water?

[Jarrell] I would love my feet in the water.

[Jamie] Where else can you have it?

What if you have a beam like to put your foot like that so

it's, like, safe out of the water?

[Dani] I got stung by a box jellyfish,

so I think that all of us

should have a seat on the raft in some form and also have

a place to put our feet.

That is for major safety reasons,

the sharks out there, they have huge teeth.

Well, I've been swimming in that water every day.

I don't know where the concern of feet in the water

just came from so much.

[Dani] We've already met some of the most venomous

sea creatures in the world.

And if we're going into deeper seas, that's where

the bigger predators are, like the tiger sharks, hammerheads.

[Jarrell] I'm not scared.

-Not scared of nothing. -[Dani] Not gonna lie, I am scared.

That's why you got a bench.

I have the scar to prove it.

I've seen firsthand, I've experienced

how dangerous things are in the shallows.

So, I just imagine that being

amplified when we're out in the deep sea.

Swam over here, we weren't scared.

We can't be scared now.

The raft, to me, it looks pretty heavy.

I mean, we're not trying to live on the raft.

Just need to get to where we're going.

Our feet need a bench?

Like, what, do we want to add a bed next?

We don't have time to add these luxuries.

We need to go get some fish. We need to go get some fruit.

And to me, that should be priority number one.

Hopefully a shark comes and bites my foot

and I catch it for food. That's how hungry I am.

It feels real once you get stung.

This girl is crazy. You got stung by a jellyfish.

Girl, you're tougher than that.

But hey, we're going to get you raised and comfortable.

Princess treatment.

I'm fully capable of doing it myself.

When Jarrell commented that him

and Jamie would build me, like, a footrest,

I don't know, it just like rubbed me the wrong way.

I can definitely do that myself

because I'm far from a princess.

Like, these creatures are fatal.

We're building a raft in order to explore the deeper seas.

The guys are gonna be fishing out there.

And I've seen their feet. I've seen my feet.

All of us have cuts and scrapes.

And these sharks can sense a drop of blood.

So, to me, having our feet dangling in the water on

the raft, that's just shark bait.

But if this is too much work, we don't have to do it.

[Jarrell] This was a waste of time, you know?

I just think there's more important things

to worry about than the bench.

So you think that's a lot of work?

Well, I mean...

[Jamie] Can I show you something?

This is what I'm thinking, right?

It's just came to me under there.

Might not work.

I'm gonna try and be the mediator here.

I'm gonna try and bring them together and come up with

a solution and move on.

This is what I'm thinking, right?

It's just these here, like this.

Just a few of those, just like three or four just to sit on

and then three or four in the middle.

Three or four at the end there.

If we're gonna make it to day 35,

I know how important it is

to stick together and just sort things out.

So Jamie, do you want me to lash this?

Jamie's modification removes the raised bench

and replaces it with three staggered rows of bamboo

to serve as both seats and footrests.

[Dani] Then you can put your feet up safely and paddle.

[Jamie] Right, yeah.

Building a raft is going to deplete us, but hopefully,

in the end, we get food.

I'm ready to do whatever it takes, you know?

[Dani] I think we all have the same goal.

[Jarrell] Exactly, same goal.

built a raft because they're so hungry.

...over top, jagged, rigid rocks.

And you've got to be careful, 'cause it's the slips, the falls,

that will take you out of this challenge,

but we need to eat.

It's all about survival, or you'll die.

We need more calories,

we need a hell of a lot more protein,

if we're gonna make it these 35 days.

Well, holy [bleep].

Just found sea urchins

that are possibly good to eat.

Known for their protective, venomous spines,

over 60 species of sea urchin

are found in the Philippine Sea.

Contact with the highly-toxic flower urchin can induce nausea

and even paralysis.

So, this is how it looks when you're trying to get sea urchins.

When you're shipwrecked, you have to make do with

what you've built or found.

So I'm using this chisel we found in the jungle

as an urchin prying tool.

-Oh! -Hammer and chisel!

[Shawn] As you can see, the water just keeps coming up in your face

while you're trying to break away all the spikes on

these little things, but it's worth it.

And they're high in protein.

5 sea urchins for brekkie this morning.

I'm now able to provide for my teammates,

and what a feeling that is!

This is what morning breakfast looks like.

I think they're gonna be amazing.

On our map it shows another little house way up in

the jungle and I want to go explore it because if someone

was living up there, they might have had a garden

and there might still be some food growing.

So, I don't know what I'm going to find up here.

because it's already leaking milk.

unless you consider the coconut.

papaya trees...

We have to go and explore

the area, but some days ago

I found those crosses. It's a cemetery.

Probably the same family who live where I am sleeping.

Malu, a few days ago I saw something that

And honestly, it's just making me feel closer connected to

the island and to the people that were here before me.

And I'm not afraid. I'm just moved.

And I miss my dad, and I'm just --

Looks like people have definitely been up here

in the past quite a bit.

This location is on the side of a steep hill.

From here you can look out over the bay.

This could have been a great spot to have a signal fire

that you could see way out to sea from up here.

I can kind of see out of one lens.

It'd be really nice to be able to look out

in that ocean,

maybe see a ship to signal someday,

and if I need it, that lens

is a fire starter and a signaling mirror.

Ooh, look at this.

Every single item in survival

can be repurposed and utilized.

A new cooking vessel for us.

This thing is ratty and moldy and nasty,

but it's intact enough that we can

wash it in the water.

I mean, I'm looking at this as a blanket for me and the girls

in our shelter.

So I'm really glad I just ran up here.

Every item I found I think

could be very useful for our team.

All of us are gonna benefit from this exploration today.

If I follow the nipa palms,

it may lead me to an active river.

Already a quarter mile deep into the mangrove swamp

west of camp, Dani plans to follow the small stream north

in search of edible plant resources.

I'm getting pretty desperate to find food

that's more suitable for long-term survival.

I like to think a few steps ahead,

fresh water means

there could be different types of fruits, nuts.

I found a tree that's sturdy enough to support my body.

how vulnerable even a survival shelter is,

and we got really, really stretched and tested last night.

When we first got here, there was pros and cons,

and the pros outweighed the cons.

And then I saw another plant that I recognized called

the taro, which is edible,

[Dani] And then I found a house.

It was like sticks, like a primitive...

[Dani] And a lot of it was burnt.

It felt kind of, like, spooky and haunted

because around this, like, bush camp,

all of the trees had these skulls hanging from them.

I felt weird being there by myself, or I felt like someone

was, like, watching me or hunting me or something.

-[Jarrell] Whoa. -[Dani] But I'm not kidding,

it was so creepy. It was so creepy. -Really?

Yeah, and I wish it wasn't,

like, pouring rain because I would have spent

more time there and assessed it. -Yeah.

I think it's worth for you guys to see it.

Like, I think we could raft there.

Definitely need to go for resources.
