We're out here stranded,
trying to survive

and dealing with
so much drama

and complaining.

Right now we're not thriving.

Honestly, I just needed to get
away from camp

for a little bit.

Try my luck at some fishing.

of some washed-up sailor

person himself.

Like that is really not
helpful whatsoever.

But I am out here to prove to
myself that I can do this.

I'm a lot tougher

There's hardly any fishing
to be done.

fruits on it.

That can act as, like,
the seat in the middle.

a raft personally,

so I'm kind of just
listening to them,

going with their game plan.

So, how about let's start
building with this plan.

We can, of course,
make mods as we go.

some bamboo for structure.

the green bamboo.

brown we can use

to build our raft.
It'll be very buoyant.

there's definitely some aspects

where I need to be
more of the leader role.

I'm facing a potentially
lethal situation with my body.

So I'm gonna do everything
in my power to make sure

the Lost Coast does not take
Adam and I as well.

Just in case he doesn't

I know how badly we need
these extra calories.

The snails, the little crabs,
the limpets, like,

they're great, but they're
a very minuscule amount.

that's kinda small.

Especially for
all the activities

that we're doing.

and it snagged me in
a bit of a rock.

pretty confident

that we can

unlimited coconuts,

looks wonderful,

but I'm having nightmares

every night,
and I'm in troubles here.

I need food, and...

You know, this place seems
like paradise, but we've only

got a couple hundred yards
of beach.

This isn't an easy place.

I can see why a lot of people

have failed to survive here,
at least long-term.

I lost my appetite.

[Ally] I really love the idea of

repurposing this old
fishing net I found

into a sort of
gill net.

It looks like I'm doing
absolutely nothing over here,

but I've actually been
meticulously tying

very small pieces of fish net
back together.

This is a gill net which is
very fine and invisible

in the water, so fish
pretty much swim right into it

and their gills get stuck.

So when you pull the net
out of the water...

the fish come
right along with it.

[Shawn] How you doing
with that net?

[Ally] I have almost
finished untangling,

but I need to get some things
that are gonna be

buoyant to line
the top of the fishing net.

I've been looking for
an opportunity to harness

my ingenuity using my knowledge
of plants and trees.

OK, so I am looking for

these big seed pods
that are

bright green and likely

not very close
to the ground.

Ah, look at that one.
Whoo!

All right, that one is perfect.

I'm thinking of using
these seeds

to help keep
the top afloat.

Now I know that these things
float in water, but I'm gonna

do a buoyancy test.
I need to see it to believe it.

The ocean is
our biggest resource,

and I am not
a water person.

I've fished maybe two times
in my life.

So I'm really trying to
put myself out there

and come up
with ideas,

even though
that's not my forte.

It floats!

So, we need to get
the rocks here.

Now on the bottom of the net to
weigh it down,

I put some rocks

inside of some different
fishing net.

Otherwise, the tide will
take it away.

In place of man-made floats,

Ally will attach the
naturally-buoyant plant pods

along the top
to keep the net suspended,

while the bags of
rocks will anchor the net

in place and keep it taut.

[Ally] Are you going to be able
to help me with the net?

-Yep.
-OK.

Oh, I hope this works.

[Patrick] Allison was
really dead set on

setting this fishing net,

and I'm feeling really good.

It's a good idea.

Setting this net could
give us food.

You gotta keep trying.

OK, so now we've got
three rocks,

one to each end
and one in the middle.

I am really proud of myself

for the idea with
the gill nets.

Are you ready to get into
the water and set this thing?

[Patrick] Yes.

[Ally] Patrick is gonna be
the one taking in the rocks,

which will weigh down
the bottom of the net

to ensure it doesn't drift.

And I'm gonna be
taking in the buoys.

We're placing it in between
a section of rocks here

while the tide is calm.

See it's all, like, spread out.

Yeah, that's awesome.

If my idea works, the net will
remain spread and stay

one place and won't drift.

Already see fish near the net.

-And these bobbers, look how
perfect they are.

where it looks like it's

open up, and it's got a good
chance of catching a fish.

It's all about harnessing
what you find out here

and coming up
with creative ideas

on how to reuse
those discoveries to aid

in your survival.

I really think that this is
gonna work.

the spring out a little bit

deeper because I can't dip
the whole pot in.

should fill up quickly.

You know, our plumbing project

down from the spring
is working great.

We have water and shelter.

You know, we have
the basics of survival,

but we need to figure out

how to up our food game.

I need some protein
coming in soon.

And then we need to figure out
how to get off this island.

what's this other
house symbol on the map?

Maybe there's other edible
foods up there that were part

of a garden at one time.

Looking at that map, it is far,
far, far away.

And I'm concerned how much
it's going to take out of him

and the dangers of it.

To reach the unknown structure
on the map, Darrin plans to

follow a dry creek bed into
the thick jungle south of camp.

It is a steep ascent into
the prime habitat for

the Philippine pit viper,

whose hemotoxic venom causes
severe pain, tissue damage,

and internal bleeding.

Snakes [chuckles].

So, please be so careful.

[Darrin] Yep, I will.

We don't know yet,
how we're going to find rescue.

It could be hiking over
the mountains to signal a ship

or navigating the ocean
to find it.

But the more you know
about your area,

the better off you are.

You have to find resources,

and you won't do those sitting

in the same spot every day.

You have to push yourself 110%
every single day in survival.

I'll just pull out
all the long ones so that

we can choose.

on our raft, which is gonna

help us with fishing.

[Dani] When designing
the raft, I came up with

this tic-tac-toe-shaped board
that resembles the local rafts.

And then the more raised it is,
the more, like, safe you'll be.

Based on an ancient
Filipino design,

Dani's bamboo raft will

be formed with three
long, vertical poles

lashed to
two horizontal poles

and then tied and tapered
at both ends

to minimize water resistance.

Two outriggers
will provide stability,

but her modified
design will add

a raised wooden crate
as a bench to sit on.

If someone that's sitting at
the back here...

their feet are
in the water here.

[Dani] You really want
your feet in the water?

[Jarrell] I would love my feet
in the water.

[Jamie] Where else
can you have it?

What if you have a beam like
to put your foot like that so

it's, like, safe
out of the water?

[Dani] I got stung by
a box jellyfish,

so I think that all of us

should have a seat on the raft
in some form and also have

a place to put our feet.

That is for
major safety reasons,

the sharks out there,
they have huge teeth.

Well, I've been swimming
in that water every day.

I don't know where the concern
of feet in the water

just came from so much.

[Dani] We've already met
some of the most venomous

sea creatures in the world.

And if we're going into
deeper seas, that's where

the bigger predators are, like
the tiger sharks, hammerheads.

[Jarrell] I'm not scared.

-Not scared of nothing.
-[Dani] Not gonna lie,
I am scared.

That's why you got a bench.

I have the scar to prove it.

I've seen firsthand,
I've experienced

how dangerous things are
in the shallows.

So, I just imagine that being

amplified when we're out
in the deep sea.

Swam over here,
we weren't scared.

We can't be scared now.

The raft, to me,
it looks pretty heavy.

I mean, we're not trying to
live on the raft.

Just need to get to
where we're going.

Our feet need a bench?

Like, what, do we want to add
a bed next?

We don't have time to add
these luxuries.

We need to go get some fish.
We need to go get some fruit.

And to me, that should be
priority number one.

Hopefully a shark comes
and bites my foot

and I catch it for food.
That's how hungry I am.

It feels real
once you get stung.

you raised and comfortable.

We're building a raft in order
to explore the deeper seas.

cuts and scrapes.

And these sharks can sense
a drop of blood.

So, to me, having our feet
dangling in the water on

the raft, that's just
shark bait.

But if this is too much work,
we don't have to do it.

[Jarrell] This was a waste

I just think there's
more important things

to worry about than the bench.

So you think that's
a lot of work?

[Jamie] Can I

This is what
I'm thinking, right?

It's just came to me

together and come up with

a solution and move on.

to serve as both

Building a raft is going to
deplete us, but hopefully,

in the end, we get food.

I'm ready to do whatever it
takes, you know?

[Dani] I think we all have
the same goal.

And you've got to be careful,
'cause it's the slips,
the falls,

that will take you
out of this challenge,

but we need to eat.

It's all about survival,
or you'll die.

We need more calories,

we need a hell of a lot
more protein,

if we're gonna
make it these 35 days.

Just found sea urchins

that are
possibly good to eat.

Known for their protective,
venomous spines,

over 60 species of sea urchin

are found
in the Philippine Sea.

Contact with the highly-toxic
flower urchin can induce nausea

and even paralysis.

So, this is how it looks when
you're trying to get
sea urchins.

When you're shipwrecked,
you have to make do with

what you've built or found.

So I'm using this chisel
we found in the jungle

as an urchin prying tool.

-Oh!

As you can see, the water just
keeps coming up in your face

while you're trying to break
away all the spikes on

these little things,
but it's worth it.

And they're high in protein.

I'm now able to provide
for my teammates,

and what a feeling
that is!

I think they're gonna

on the hillside...

On our map it shows another
little house way up in

the jungle and I want to go
explore it because if someone

was living up there,
they might have had a garden

and there might still be
some food growing.

So, I don't know what
I'm going to find up here.

because it's already
leaking milk.

I see bananas and a banana
blossom hanging from that tree.

So useful to use as shelter
material and cook with them.

Taro root over there.
This looks like taro.

It has a heart-shaped leaf.

Then, when you dig into it,
you can find, like,

an edible tuber, edible root.
It's crazy.

Based on all of these...

younger growth trees
and more diversity of plants...

it makes sense that this
would be a riverbed here.

I love seeing a fresh river
that's flowing.

Gonna keep going...

and see where this may lead me.

There is some kind of structure

I think it's a wild boar.

an actual river.

of coconut trees.

And then I saw another plant
that I recognized called

the taro, which is edible,

kind of like a yam or a potato.
-Well, that's good.

I would love some potatoes
right now.

Yeah, that would be amazing.

[Dani] And then I found
a house.

It was like sticks,
like a primitive...

[Dani] And a lot of it
was burnt.

It felt kind of, like,
spooky and haunted

because around this,

all of the trees had
these skulls hanging from them.

I felt weird being there by
myself, or I felt like someone

was, like, watching me
or hunting me or something.

it was so creepy.

and I wish it wasn't,

like, pouring rain
because I would have spent

more time there and assessed it.
