in consensual encounters,

and try to shake the

and see what we
can come up with.

- I've been working
for the government

for 22 and a half years,

I have a lot of
street experience.

14 of those years was working
in fugitive operations

on the street.

My son is a D.O., he is on
the fugitive operations team.

I'm glad that he decided
to follow in my footsteps,

but as a mother,
you know, I worry.

What keeps me up at night is
the safety of the officers.

I worry a lot about the
guys that are on the street.

The environment that
we're living in right now,

it's very dangerous out there

and people have such a
negative perception of us.

They come out and they protest,

and they're so disrespectful
to the officers,

and the increase in the assault,

it's just very scary.

These officers, they all have
families, they all have kids.

They're just normal people.

(dramatic music)

So this is a little different
from what we've been doing

as opposed to the
single person car stops.

It's a larger area.

There are a lot of things

you have to take
into consideration.

They've done surveillance

and have seen a lot of people
going in and out of there.

So, safety is paramount.

People could be coming out
from anywhere and everywhere.

(suspenseful music)

there's two gentlemen standing
outside their complex.

Treat people with respect

and you have to have all
the patience in the world.

He admitted to entering
the United States illegally

over the border

and he's been
placed under arrest.

That happened four times
in a matter of 10 minutes.

One of them is illegal.

He's got a pending charge for
assault with a deadly weapon.

Looks like we're at four so far.

Just encountering people
coming out from everywhere.

- At one time, we were one

of the smallest federal law
enforcement agencies tasked

with one of the
biggest missions.

We have to ensure that we
use our resources wisely.

Homeland Security

ramping up immigration
enforcement.

- [Broadcaster 2] ICE has
made nearly 300,000 arrests

as deportations
near record highs.

- [Broadcaster 3] The
numbers are gonna skyrocket.

- [Broadcaster 4] More
than half a million.

- [Broadcaster 5] 1.6 million.

- [Broadcaster 6] 2
million illegal aliens

exiting the country.

- [Officer] Wanna look at
achievable goals every day.

We look at the threat

and then we see what
resources we have.

Our goal is to get as many
as we can quickly, safely,

and humanely back
to their country.

- My name is Jason.

I'm the acting field
office director for ICE

Salt Lake City Field Office,

which covers Utah, Nevada,
Idaho, and Montana.

So we cover about half
a million square miles

from the southern tip of Nevada
all the way up to Canada.

Definitely some challenges
with covering an area that big.

We do see a lot more of a
transient population in Nevada

that comes with more
national security,

public safety threats

than we see in some
of the other states.

In the 25 years that I've
been working for ICE,

we're busier now
than we've ever been.

(pensive music)

This particular
target has significant

criminal history.

Kidnapping, narcotics,
charged with murder.

He is known to be
armed and dangerous.

(phone beeps)

- [Officer] Hey, Greg, are
you going to be the one

to call it for us to creep in?

- [Greg] If he parks that
tow truck streetside,

we will go for an
open-air take down.

If he parks it in the driveway,

we probably won't
have enough time.

- My path to federal law
enforcement means going back

to the beginning.

As a kid,

my biological parents were
drug dealers and drug addicts.

I grew up in
poverty and neglect,

sexual abuse, physical abuse,

having to witness
those sort of things.

As you can imagine, it
was pretty traumatizing.

- [Officer] Eyes on the vehicle.

Tow truck just drove by me.

He's coming in now.

- Eventually, we were saved.

Some detectives, some police
officers took us away.

Then and there,

I decided that I wanted to
work in law enforcement.

Getting criminals
off the streets,

child molesters, child rapists.

That's what drives me.

if you wanna pull up on him.

and his kids are in

- There's an important aspect
to law enforcement work,

and that is having compassion.

Because of my background,

helping children who might
be in a bad situation is

something I'm keen to
keep an eye out for.

And I remind my officers

that having compassion
in those situations is

also very important.

We'll make sure that
he has an opportunity

to communicate with his family.

The officers that work for
me are doing good work,

doing it legally, by the book,

targeting the worst of the worst

that the vast majority
of Americans don't want

in their communities.

Here's the warrants.

- Our first target is
male, sexual battery.

Convicted and sentenced

to 355 days.

So we just did a drive-by.

There was two vehicles.

Target vehicle is
in the driveway.

covering a very large state

with the 14th largest
city in the nation.

I have 19 deportation officers
covering the entire state

working seven days a week.

Today we're a little
short-staffed.

that just worked

for eight hours overnight.

If it's another busy day,

I'll probably be taking
that overnight shift myself.

He's been on probation,

so he's used to law
enforcement showing up

and having to talk to him.

So he's most likely
gonna answer.

There's a couple of us.

said that the individual

They allowed us in.

He was convicted of
a sexual battery.

With this crime, it'll make
him amenable to removal.

The next targets that
we're going after,

they just came into
the country illegally.

He got put on a monitor when
he got picked up at the border.

Just got notification that he
is at his residence right now.

(pensive music)

It's been pretty taxing lately.

Sometimes our family life
is struggling because of it.

My son is 15, he
is mowing lawns.

I have to take him to
some of these places

and he asked me if I could drop
him off at one of the places

that he mows the lawn at.

And I said, "Hey, you're gonna
have to give me a second.

I'm working."

And under his breath as
he's getting out of the car,

he said, "You're
always working."

It's true.

We're always working

and my family notices
that it's just constant.

(suspenseful music)

We're with immigration.

We have to bring
you in today, okay?

- [Suspect] Arrest?

- [Jill] We have to
reprocess your case.

- Okay.
- The individual

we were looking for
answered the door,

informed him he
was under arrest.

We are gonna take
him to our office

where we then will process them.

- During the last
administration,

our resources were
stretched so thin.

We were seeing 12

to 15,000 illegal immigrants a
day coming across our border.

At that point, we had to restart

our immigration
enforcement mission.

President Trump took
the handcuffs off of us.

- [Broadcaster 1] ICE is
ramping up its recruitment

all across the country.

- Signing up by the thousands.

- [Broadcaster 2] 1,500
troops at the southern border.

- [Broadcaster 3] A massive
scale-up all across the country.

- With the Big Beautiful Bill,

President Trump has given
us the resources needed

to do our job.

We came together as a
whole government approach.

The target, not only just
the criminal illegal aliens,

but everyone that has exploited
the immigration system.

- We have been getting
way more resources.

The work that we now do

with the other federal
agencies has expanded a lot.

With the help,

it's freeing up my guys
to lodge more detainers

and create more targets.

Can we keep this pace up?

Yeah, we can.

This is what we signed up for.

with non-detained individuals
still either pending court

or have a final order
pending immigration removal.

We triage their cases.

The latest

court proceedings, updates,

and we also check
for criminal history

to make sure that they're
good for the community.

members, cartel members,

child sex traffickers,
fentanyl dealers.

Those are the ones that ICE are
out there getting every day.

We target the worst first.

- At this moment, we've
identified an individual

during the review of his case.

- Final order.

Doesn't have anything pending.

- Take him in.

Due to his criminal convictions,

he's gonna be taken into
Krome Processing Center

with maximum security.

Now that we're reviewing
the cases in depth,

we have the capabilities
of taking them into custody

and proceed with
removal finally.

for homicide, larceny,
battery, aggravated assault.

- Fraud and battery for
larceny, kidnapping.

- [Officer] It's all
good solid arrests.

assault, drug trafficking,

We're gonna have that

we deal with the
worst of the worst.

We need to educate the public
more on how immigration works.

The problem is,
how do you do that?

They believe what they want

and they just keep
going with it,

and it doesn't matter.

Even if we put out there all
the good things that we do,

like a lot of criminals,

bad people off the street.

was just arrested.

The child was less than 11.

but with ICE, I've
been now for 17 years.

So I've seen it all.

It's a tough job and I
wish people understood

that our folks here
are doing their best

to keep everybody
safe in this country.

Our goal in this
case is to stop him

inside the complex
before he gets out.

The case officer is what
we call the eyeball.

So he is the one
that's actually staged

right in front of the apartment.

flee from us in his car,

Now he doesn't want
to get out of the car,

We haven't been able to pin

that they frequent.

it happens to be a local
hangout for gang members.

So we'll see what
comes up with it.

leaving garbage, drugs.

The last time we were here,

we found someone
actually overdosing.

We had to call EMS and
probably saved their life.

I really thought we were gonna
encounter somebody today.

- Came over here, we saw some
individuals hanging outside,

so we decided to talk to them.

A lot of these guys
just kind of wander

through different
neighborhoods, different towns.

get out there.

You gotta talk to people,
talk to business owners,

talk to the local police
precincts, show photos.

for aggravated assault

on a pregnant female
that's eight months.

He's known to be a 18th
Street gang member.

18th Street gang is the rival

of the MS-13 back
in El Salvador.

Everything from
trafficking to murder,

to control territories.

So this is why this
subject needs to be removed

from the United States.

So over the weekend,

this guy left real
earlier around 5:00.

So trying to make sure
we get there on time.

the black pickup truck

and a white van.

That's the subject's
two vehicles.

It's a good sign 'cause he's
come out at different times.
