BLOODY HEART

THE PEOPLE, GROUPS, PLACES, AND INCIDENTS IN THIS DRAMA ARE PURELY FICTIONAL

Lady Park, His Majesty shall enter.

I am here as requested!

Let me see that face of yours.

My lord?

Why are you…

here, my lord?

There are ears all around us.

Your Majesty, please compose yourself.

-Eunuch Jung. -Yes, Your Majesty.

I shall interrogate Lady Park for jealousy.

Do not let anybody follow me.

Your order is my command.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

He did not allow you to follow.

You won't even hide that you side with His Majesty.

All eunuchs belong to His Majesty.

How do you not know that simple fact as the chief eunuch?

Why are you all standing around without protecting His Majesty?

Do not dare to follow His Majesty!

It is his order.

Are you His Majesty?

My lord.

You were the Crown Prince all along?

How…

has this happened?

Why are you here in the palace?

How much does Councilor Park know about you?

Does he know that you were once to be the Crown Princess?

No.

Is that

all you have to say to me?

Why did you…

Why did you return to the palace?

Did you forget everything

that happened to you here?

If I had known you were His Majesty,

if I had known my savior was the Crown Prince,

I would have died before I came here.

On every 15th we met,

why didn't you tell me anything over all those years?

You should've said so when I said I loved you.

If you had told me then…

I would have put an end to these pathetic feelings.

BLOODY HEART EPISODE 5

Are there any court ladies that may recognize her?

It was before the wedding, so no one was with her

other than the court lady who was dispatched.

Also, all of them were involved in the treason,

so they were either killed or exiled.

How much…

does Councilor Park know?

Your Majesty.

This is the chance in a lifetime.

Councilor Park brought in a stranger

and claimed her as his niece to make her your concubine.

This is contempt of the Royal Family, no, it's even treason.

You now have just cause to punish Councilor Park!

Wouldn't Councilor Park know that?

What if he knew who she was?

Then he becomes the one who saved the traitor's daughter.

Councilor Park brought her up as his niece

and made her your concubine.

That's the story you can work with.

Your Majesty, it's your chance to get rid of Councilor Park

instead of waiting for Siwol to pass the state exam.

If I do that,

Lady Jeong will die.

We must check first.

I'll act

only after I make sure.

I will go to Councilor Park's home!

Giddy-up!

It was not my blunder.

It was yours.

Why did you make such a foolish move?

Were you counting on the feelings of a man's frivolous heart?

I did.

You are the successor of the late King.

The late King was a feeble ruler,

but he was a very tough husband.

The list for officials.

You may fill it up with the names you like.

No matter who they are, they will receive a proper title, land, and slaves.

I will also hold a magnificent ceremony for the woman you bring as a concubine.

-Your Majesty. -Hence,

do not discuss the deposal of the Queen any longer.

Her Majesty's household used to serve the deposed king.

How do you expect us

to honor the daughter of a criminal as the Queen?

She is not the daughter of a criminal.

She's the Crown Prince's mother

and my wife.

Which path will you take, Your Majesty?

Will it be power?

Or will it be

your love?

Have you been expecting me?

I've been waiting for you to summon me.

How can you act so rashly as the King?

Next time,

send your order through a royal secretary and have me come in.

If you expected my visit,

it means you know who Lady Park really is.

Do you?

She is your lover

and a token of my loyalty.

All I want is for you to spend

a hundred happy years with your lover.

Despite the danger, you did all this

for me?

How shall I reciprocate your loyalty?

I, Left State Councilor Park Gyewon!

Please accept me…

as your subject.

He doesn't know.

I must have overestimated you, Councilor Park.

I know you were in a rush,

but you played

such a poor move.

In the end, all you wanted was one thing.

Power in the future.

The Queen Dowager is with you,

but the Queen isn't on your side,

how will you have power in the future?

And nobody will stay loyal to a man who'll lose his power in the future.

Is that why you did something so atrocious and foolish?

You treated the Royal Family with contempt

and broke the law, yet did you expect to live?

I'll wait and see

what the Queen Dowager will give up…

to save your life, Councilor Park.

Were you after the Queen Dowager,

and not the State Tribunal?

Do you wish to run away?

Father.

Your shoulders are heavy with the weight of the Royal Family, our family,

and even the Sarim.

Do you want to run away now if it isn't too late?

I should've run away back then.

If I had,

you, mother,

and our family wouldn't have been annihilated.

Then I wouldn't have met him,

and we wouldn't be hurting right now.

Jeong.

-You cannot do this. -Move!

Do you expect me to let her live after ruining my bridal night?

What are you doing? You must stop Lady Cho.

All of you.

How dare you try to stop her?

Father.

What's going on?

Who broke your heart?

Lady Park ruined my bridal night.

That's a good thing for you.

-Father. -People are saying after yesterday,

Lady Park will be shunned for life.

It's been said His Majesty's wrath reached the skies.

Is that true?

Of course.

So you must hurry and greet the Queen Dowager.

How many times did I tell you to avoid letting your elder find any faults in you?

But still, I don't want to go greet her.

Lady Park will be there.

His Majesty will…

also be there.

Court Lady Kim, what are you doing? Help me get ready.

Yes, my lady.

His Majesty ran into Lady Park's quarters?

There was turmoil through the night.

Lady Park must have made a mistake as she is unfamiliar with palace customs.

She may not know the customs,

but she must know a thing or two about men and women.

His Majesty talked big about how he'll never see her face,

but he ended up seeing her.

He needs to see her face in order for him to fall for her.

His Majesty said

he would be unable to come and greet you this morning.

I said I'll see him with my daughters-in-law,

but he won't come?

A great son like His Majesty will not treat his mother with disdain.

He must be feeling under the weather.

You are right.

I cannot just sit around as his mother.

Send the royal physician immediately.

It'll be a rough day.

I heard His Majesty came last night.

The guests in the annex need to go into the palace.

I'll call for someone who'll escort the guests.

I will go.

This is lowly and dangerous.

Our family's fate is upon this.

We better keep this secret away from others.

Do as you like.

My lady.

Thank you.

Is this a dream, or is it real?

It's such an honor.

A girl you brought up became a concubine!

Are we really allowed this?

I only brought Aok up for a bit when she was seven.

Goodness.

A year is a long time.

You're the only one who showed any kindness to that lowly family.

Yes.

That's enough to make you the Queen's mother.

If I'm the Queen's mother, you are the Queen's brother.

I'm suddenly about to become a big success thanks to you, Mother.

You're here, my lady.

We'll soon schedule a date for you to visit the palace.

Is Lady Park already looking for me?

Of course. Once she sees you,

she'll run out to welcome you.

After all,

she adored me so much that she thought of me as her own mother.

If it hadn't been for me, she would've starved to death

with her sickly father in bed.

I'm sure Lady Park is waiting for the day to repay your kindness.

Thank you.

Lady Park.

His Majesty was too ill to greet me this morning,

but he's in the archery field?

You may leave.

He has tried hard to play a good son until now.

Why is he suddenly showing his true nature?

Your Royal Highness.

The two ladies have been waiting for two hours.

Let them wait.

Their husband shows disrespect because his wife lacks virtue.

Your Royal Highness.

You should dismiss them for Lady Park's sake…

Lady Cho.

Come over here!

Stand upright.

If you feel tired after waiting for just two hours,

your servants won't respect you.

Your Royal Highness.

Councilor Park did not come in today due to a high fever.

He fell ill on the same day as His Majesty.

This isn't a petty issue.

However,

why hasn't he said a word to me?

Actually, he has sent you word through a messenger.

What is it?

Did Councilor Park fail to come in again?

Yes, Your Majesty.

-What about the Queen Dowager? -She's quiet.

It means he doesn't have any other moves.

I must press the Queen Dowager of her debt.

You should be careful.

Councilor Park has his hands on Lady Park.

-You must be more cautious-- -I can't put this off any longer.

The longer she remains in the palace,

the more perilous it'll be.

I'm visiting the Queen Dowager.

Your Majesty.

Lady Cho greets His Majesty.

Where are you going?

My mother and sister-in-law are coming,

so I'm on my way to see them.

You must be happy to see your mother.

I'm happy to see you, Your Majesty.

The flower cannot come to see the butterfly,

so I am not allowed to see you. I must always wait.

I'm very thrilled to see you like this

by coincidence.

You may go.

What brings you here?

I thought you stopped visiting your mother.

Was there not any word from the Left State Councilor?

Such as?

Right.

You do not know, so you are still such at peace.

I do not care what it is. If you do not want to speak, stay silent.

The ladies' families will soon be here,

which is why I doubt he will have any time for you.

The two ladies?

Then Lady Park's family must be here too.

They just arrived at the palace.

Lady Park, I also heard you lost your mother when you were young.

Who will be coming from your family?

Madame Yoon will be here.

It must be lonely.

I also have a stepmother, but she is nothing to my real mother.

Then were you raised with a nanny?

Your father has been ill for decades,

so I doubt he got remarried.

Our family was poor, so I only had one servant.

Madame Yoon is here.

You are here.

It's a great joy to see how composed you look.

Who are you, madame?

I'm the aunt who raised Lady Park,

no, I'm almost like her birth mother.

You're almost like her birth mother?

She said she only had a servant.

She didn't.

She didn't even have a servant, so I looked after her all the time.

Is that so?

I hope Lady Park comes quickly and tells you.

When will Lady Park get here?

I am Lady Park.

Who are you?

I'm sorry?

I do not know who you are.

Why do you say you raised me?

Why do you have trouble recognizing Lady Park?

You must have lied to me.

Madame, no.

That lady

is not Aok.

I remember her face clearly.

It was only for a short while, but I fed her and bathed her.

How could I not recognize her?

For a short while? You said you raised her through her childhood.

Did you lie to me?

I… Well, that's…

I apologize. She said she was like your mother,

and I was foolish enough to believe her.

Drag her out immediately.

I shall ask the State Tribunal to clear Lady Park's disgrace.

Madame, no. Please forgive me.

It's not me. That woman is a fake.

She really isn't Aok!

Please believe me!

It's not me. That woman is a fake.

Please! She is not Aok!

Madame!

I'm reminded of a romance novel I once read back in my father's home.

When the lady died in a war,

her maid pretended to be the lady

and even married a scholar, living her life as a noble.

It was a very fun novel.

Then I'll see you later.

Go tell my father what you just saw.

Who put you up for this atrocity to deceive Madame Yoon?

Who would dare make me do such a thing?

I did exaggerate a little by saying I raised her for a long time,

but everything I said is true.

Then what? You simply couldn't recognize Lady Park?

How can I not recognize a girl I raised for a whole year?

She really isn't Aok!

You wicked woman!

Aok has a big mole under her belly button.

Once you check that,

you will find out if I'm telling the truth or not.

How dare you!

Are you suggesting I should look through a concubine's body?

She's impossible. Punish her now!

No, my lord.

Please believe me.

My lord!

I'm not a good person, but I'm not so bad that I should die.

Please, my lord.

Please!

Because of me,

Lady Jeong is once again in a life-or-death situation.

Have the chief of State Tribunal come in.

Lady Park, His Majesty's eunuch is here.

Let him in.

Please call me Eunuch Jung.

I am a eunuch to His Majesty.

However, if anything blocks his way,

I will slay them no matter who they are, even if it's against his wish.

You may relay his message.

Even Madame Yoon was deceived, but she was partially speaking the truth.

Many people

back in her town witnessed

that she used to call Lady Park as "Mole-ok."

Then they must all know what Lady Park looks like.

It was for a short while when she was young, so no one remembers.

However, since that woman's account is trustworthy,

you should look at her body--

Your Majesty, Lady Park is here.

Let her come in.

This concerns you, so I called you.

You may continue.

We confirmed that Seo deceived Madame Yoon

by telling her that she is Lady Park's aunt.

Since we confirmed her lie, punish her by flogging.

I humbly accept your order, Your Majesty.

I'll tell the Royal Medical Office to prepare some calming medicine.

It'll help you sleep.

Councilor Park…

does not know your identity yet.

But he won't stop before he gets what he wants.

You're right.

Councilor Park would have annihilated the Sarim

and my family at any time.

Then Your Majesty,

why did you deceive me?

Is that really…

all you can say to me?

You might die…

because of this.

Right now,

you're more important than my life.

You were the only one in this world

who really knew who I was.

Do you know how much it meant to me?

You should have trusted me more.

What will you do?

I chose to come into the palace.

I shall find a way by myself.

Not once…

have my feelings for you…

been untrue.

I only hoped

for you to live in peace.

However,

you are now…

between life and death once again because of me.

I am…

so sorry.

-Are they still nearby? -Yes.

I'm sure they're chasing us.

They've followed us for 300km. It means they're watching us.

I don't think we should run away

without knowing if Lady Jeong is dead or alive.

Jeong said she can only escape as long as we are safe.

I'm sure those men are watching us because of her.

What on earth is going on?

My lord, I…

will return to the city.

No, what if you get caught?

They're only watching us from afar,

so they won't notice

if you act as if I got hurt and began to carry me on the wagon.

I need to know if she's alive to eat another meal in peace. Please?

What kind of rascals scattered bamboo peels all over?

How dare they do this to our family?

I'll sweep it up quickly.

You have to go to the palace today. Don't do that.

Maksool!

I feel bad for Maksool. That's why.

I'll clean up right away, so you should go in.

Goodness.

Come on. I got this.

Gosh.

Ttong…

Ttong.

-Uncle Ma! -You're safe.

I was worried that you might have disappeared like Hyang.

Uncle Ma, are you all right?

What is it? Tell me.

What on earth is going on?

Seo may have told a lie,

but I do not think this concerns the Office of Inspector General.

But it does concern an official, so we should investigate Lady Park.

Inspector Park, leave us.

This concerns your family, so you cannot deal with the matter.

You clearly don't know him well enough.

Inspector Park's priorities as an inspector

lie above the matters of his family.

He is the one out of all my pupils that I am most proud of.

I know how upright he is.

But this concerns the Internal Court,

so it won't be easy to get involved.

Please let me take care of this.

Can you do it?

Yes.

I'll find out the truth before long. For Lady Park, if anything.

Mother!

Deok.

Were you arrested too?

No.

Madame Yoon helped me see you.

I see.

Why did you make such a mistake?

It wasn't a mistake. She really wasn't Aok.

Mother, please get a grip!

My family and I will end up dead soon!

Deok, I must've seen it wrong.

So please let me see her one more time.

This time, I'll open my eyes wide and look at her.

So please, just once.

Please.

It's too late.

Your mistake was too grave.

There is no way to patch it up.

Lord Park's political enemies are trying to use you

to put the blame on him.

So, Mother…

Mother…

Please…

Your mother's brave decision

just saved you and your family.

Also,

our family is greatly indebted to her.

Aunt Seo…

took her own life?

Yes.

However, that isn't the only problem.

Eumjeon was there

when Seo took her own life.

I received a letter from my mother that said

I must save my brother who was arrested by the State Tribunal.

I was deceived too.

Why did you run to the State Tribunal

over some letter from a stranger?

And you even told the officers that you were Lady Park's attendant?

I just wanted to check if my brother was really arrested.

Please spare my life, Lady Park.

All the evidence

points to me.

Councilor Park will come to the palace today.

How far are you willing to go?

Only one person

can answer that question.

So ask His Majesty to spare your life instead of me.

That means you have a way around this.

You also have a way around this called His Majesty.

Also, I already gave you a shield.

You're my niece, Lady Park.

There is no stronger shield than that.

All of those people have arrived in the Gyeongsang area.

Do not worry.

Your Majesty.

You cannot take a matter over one's social status this lightly.

When Seo took her own life, Lady Park's attendant was also there.

We cannot take this lightly either.

How dare you speak like that?

Are you suggesting Lady Park killed her?

Your Majesty.

You cannot be deceived by some crazy woman's talk.

Seo told a lie, then took her own life, scared of the consequences.

Your Majesty, we do not even check the virginity of the candidates

if they are here to become the Queen.

Because it is disrespectful

to even speak of the behavior of the future Queen in that way.

And it's because we believe noblewomen keep themselves chaste.

So if she dared to assume someone else's identity,

it also means she deceived the Royal Family.

Not only should we look into Lady Park,

we should also investigate Councilor Park.

I, Left State Councilor Park Gyewon,

request His Majesty to allow for my resignation.

Please give me your approval!

My family is involved in a scandal

that stained the honor of the Royal Family

and threatened the foundation of our country.

This must be

punished by death.

I ask of you.

Please disclose every little detail regarding Lady Park's identity.

If her crimes are confirmed as true,

you must quarter her four limbs

and display the greatness of the Royal Family!

What is it you really want?

Please accept Lady Park.

If you accept her as who she is,

who would dare be suspicious of her?

If I want to let her live,

I should take her as your niece and let it go?

Which also means I should take you in?

I am

your loyal subject, Your Majesty.

Please do not

drive me away.

Oh, dear.

I cannot do that.

Seo's lies were confirmed as true.

I understand your desperation to resign,

but your resignation is…

rejected.

His Majesty is here.

The royal court is in an uproar!

I cannot lift my face at this bizarre and ridiculous incident.

Do not let anybody in.

I shall interrogate Lady Park myself.

Leave the palace.

Lady Jeong.

You deceived the Left State Councilor and the royal family.

He'll simply be dismissed from his office.

But you will…

end up beheaded.

You must leave the palace.

Only then will you live.

Just as how…

I held that mysterious scholar's hand…

back on that day?

The crafters of Bamboo Grove Village are…

in Councilor Park's hands.

I…

cannot leave.

But you must go.

My people's lives are at stake.

You may be the one who spared my life,

but they're the ones who taught me the reasons to live.

They are my blood…

and my family.

Eat up before the officer comes.

What about Jinsa Lim and Lady Jeong?

Are they all right?

Worry about yourself.

The district magistrate is about to kill all of you. Goodness.

-What are we going to do? -What do you think?

Pull yourselves together.

Even if our flesh is shredded, we do not know a thing.

They were criticized by other nobles because they were in this business,

but they didn't care and helped us make a living.

If you forget that, we're less than beasts.

Make sure you keep your mouth shut. Okay?

The one who kept visiting her.

Don't ever speak of him.

Of course, I won't.

Eat up.

I came to examine Lady Park's body.

Give me a moment. I will let Lady Park know.

Remove them.

-Let go of me! -Oh no. Wait.

-Did you come to examine my body? -Yes.

It will only take a moment.

Who gave you this order?

It is the Queen Dowager's order.

-Escort her to the room. -Halt.

I will receive the order from the Queen Dowager herself.

We can forcibly examine you if we must.

Look around and see

if there is anybody who does not work as ears and eyes

for the left state councilor.

Is there such a person in this palace?

I am the niece of the King's merit subject

and the left state councilor.

Do you still dare to examine me?

I will go see the Queen Dowager myself.

Do not follow me.

Your Royal Highness, Lady Park of Chaeokdang is here.

Inspector Park also says it is right to examine your body.

Why do you not obey my order?

Your Royal Highness.

A member of the Internal Court

cannot allow strange women to examine her body.

And she's a court lady who's in charge of inspecting other court ladies.

This is my office's decision.

Seo may have told a lie, but it was partially true.

It's only right to examine her body and see if she really is Lady Park.

This is for your sake.

I will not accept.

My uncle also agrees with me.

Do not speak such careless words.

Councilor Park also wishes to treat this matter fairly.

How can I trust the court lady?

What will you do if she tells a lie after examining my body?

Then, I will send a few trustworthy and older court ladies.

How many people must I show my body to?

Your Royal Highness,

why do you try to humiliate me as such?

Your Royal Highness,

we must disclose the truth soon to subdue this scandal.

What's on Councilor Park's mind?

How come he has not said a word to me?

Your Majesty.

Lady Park's disrespect is unacceptable.

If she dares to disobey the Queen Dowager's order,

she will take your orders lightly.

What Lady Park said is only proper.

How can a member of the Internal Court show her body to just anybody?

Your Majesty.

What if we bring somebody whom Lady Park can trust?

Someone…

Lady Park can trust?

Yes, Your Majesty.

Who?

There is only one person

whom she will trust.

There is only one person

who can examine Lady Park's body.

It is you, Your Majesty.

Once His Majesty confirms her identity,

who would dare speak of this again?

Make sure His Majesty examines her himself.

Which path will you take, Your Majesty?

Will it be power?

Or will it be your love?

It is your move, Your Majesty.

Will you save her?

Or will you kill her?

My love…

who was ruined because of me.

Lady Jeong.

I have decided…

to abandon you.

I went to Lady Park's quarters.

Lady Park…

being Left State Councilor Park Gyewon's niece

is true.

BLOODY HEART

Remove Lady Park's litter.

I said I will not see Lady Park.

From now on, you are nothing but Councilor Park's niece to me.

That fan…

If you fall in danger in the palace, His majesty will do something risky again.

So, please leave.

I will leave.

I'll live with my people, as I have in the past.

This is bad. I cannot find Lady Park.

Lock every gate in the palace!

Do not let anybody leave the palace!
