"Episode 4 The Spirit in Sword"

"County Hospital"

You'd break the pact?

Aren't you afraid of getting eternally annihilated?

That would be a wish come true.

No!

"County Hospital"

Was the demon hit by that?

Wait, what does that have to do with me?

Weird, my natal sword naturally resides in my spine.

It would automatically return to my body, so why isn't it doing that now?

Hey, Xiao.

Here.

The runes outside the HQ have disappeared.

We didn't manage to find Pi Chunsheng's body.

We have a clear picture of the case now.

Bi Chunsheng saved many people in her time working as a field agent.

"Certificate"

Bi Chunsheng saved many people in her time working as a field agent.

"Certificate"

Those people remained in contact with her all these years.

Those people remained in contact with her all these years.

"Contact List"

She even made a contact list for them, and Ji Qingchen was among them.

She even made a contact list for them, and Ji Qingchen was among them.

That contact list... It...

The 1,000 sacrificial offerings were chosen from it, right?

It's easy to guess. They trusted her, so it'd be easy for her to infect them.

Even if she was sincere toward them,

after finding out her family was infected with the butterfly,

these real survivors would be a cruel joke in her eyes.

By the way, what happened to that infected boy?

The low temperature operation was a success.

We've removed the butterfly and quarantined it.

How did Bi Chunsheng acquire the butterfly?

Gong Chenggong smuggled a jar of butterfly eggs out of the Center 30 years ago.

I guess she stole it from him.

This matter has spread internally. The biggest scandal since our foundation.

Maybe this is what Bi Chunsheng was after.

So she transferred to Aftermath Response Team to get close to Gong Chenggong?

I'm guessing he's the previous captain of the team?

You knew the team held many secrets, so you lied to me,

and gave me this position with low pay and lots of troubles!

Xiao, I'm but a lowly worker.

Have you forgotten how many times I've helped you in your time as a field agent?

How could you do this to me? I feel hurt.

There's no one else I can trust. I...

Fine, since you say that, I'll help.

Remember to raise my salary.

Why is protecting normal people the number-one principle for Supernaturals?

The Supernaturals are people, too.

Xiao, you're also a Supernatural, so you should know,

having a super power that helps people also means that you can be a threat.

"County Hospital"

"County Hospital"

Remember to raise my salary, Dad!

I took a liking to you as soon as I saw you, young fiend.

As for me, I guess I am something born of humankind's delusion.

I must be going crazy. Why do I keep thinking about that demon?

It must be because they kept mentioning Chiyuan.

I want to rekindle the flames of Chiyuan!

I refuse.

Rekindle the flames of Chiyuan? Is that really her own wish?

And that demon, he'd break the pact just because he didn't want to do it?

Chiyuan...

The clan ring has been forged.

The 36th leader may temporarily leave Chiyuan and explore the world.

Son, don't be afraid.

"Emergency Ward"

Are you the patient's son?

"Nanming Firekeeper"

You're naturally gifted. I couldn't see through your disguise at first glance.

I don't even know what I am.

Am I a human? A fiend? A butterfly?

Everyone is as real as the next person.

"Aftermath Response Team"

According to record, after Emperor Wu of Qi killed the Fiend King,

he founded the Qingping Agency to accommodate the half fiends.

Don't you think that Qingping Agency is like the ancient version of the Center?

Maybe us Supernaturals are the descendants of those half fiends.

That's such a wild guess.

Yang, you sound just like those people who spread rumors on the internet.

You didn't see those runes on the wall. It was eerie.

Everyone is saying...

...that if the Supernaturals got exposed because of this...

Hello, Captain!

Get up.

--This is Yang from our team, Yang Chao.

--Hello, Captain! --This is Yang from our team, Yang Chao.

He's good at memorizing things.

Qingping Agency has been disbanded for over 700 years.

Even if you have fiend's lineage, the percentage would be extremely minute.

Supernaturals aren't that much different from normal people. Stop overthinking.

About Bi's case...

Forget it. Captain, let me know if you need help with anything.

I was wondering which live stream I should watch while having my meal.

You must be joking.

He really did watch live streams for the whole day.

"Xiao Zheng"

--Yes? --Come to the 60th floor underground.

The butterfly extracted from the boy is contagious!

What's going on?

Many field agents who came into contact with the boy exhibited signs of infection.

We've secretly put everyone the boy has come into contact with

in the past month...

...in quarantine.

You can get infected via touch?

Wow, you're even better than zombies.

In games, the zombies has to bite someone first to infect them.

Am I scaring the butterfly? Do I look that fierce?

The one on the left is the butterfly from the Center.

"Illusory Butterfly"

The one on the left is the butterfly from the Center.

"Illusory Butterfly"

It has three black stripes on its abdomen, and it would die outside of a host.

The one on the right is from the boy.

As you can see, there're no black stripes.

It's still alive despite having left the boy's body for a few days.

Luckily, there's only one mutated butterfly.

Imagine it: it can spread via human contact.

Once the host dies, their body can produce a bunch of little butterflies.

It's like the horror version of Butterfly Lovers. The world would end in days.

From now on, I'll pay you 100 bucks for every minute you speak seriously.

No problem, Dad!

Have you thought of another possibility for the sudden mutation?

Maybe the butterfly wasn't from the Center?

You mean it wasn't Bi Chunsheng who infected the boy?

But then, who did?

The Center didn't produce the butterflies, but it has to come from somewhere, right?

Do you remember how we found out about Ji Qingchen?

He was suspected of infecting the boy.

How can you be sure it was him?

I've look through his short videos posted online today.

Most of them were him solving supernatural problems for others. A classic conman.

The problems were pretty similar.

They got possessed by something, and had to hire a master to get rid of it.

They described the feeling of getting possessed as,

"I can think clearly, but I can't control my body."

Well, doesn't it sound familiar?

If this infectious butterfly really came from Ji Qingchen,

it would be disastrous if it spread.

I'll keep the change, Dad.

Don't worry, I'll take my team to Dongzhou to investigate this.

Are you afraid of me? Or...

Get off!

It is afraid of you, isn't it?

You, who slipped inside my sword to avoid getting annihilated.

Right, Your Majesty?

What do you think?

Who are you and what era are you from?

How did you become a demon, and how did you get inside my sword?

Why did you break the pact? What does rekindling Chiyuan mean?

I don't remember.

He didn't even care to make up an excuse!

Ignorant fiend, I have no need to come up with an excuse.

What? He can sense what I'm thinking?

Have a deep breath. Relax. Empty your mind.

You can't empty your mind by thinking.

I guess it was your blood that linked our thoughts together.

Crap, I have no privacy now!

Senior, I'm sure you don't like this either. Any ideas?

Let me out.

I'd like to, but I don't even know how you got in there!

You sure lack common sense.

If the owner dies, the natal sword will naturally break.

Sure, come and kill me.

Wait, since our minds are linked, can I...

...intrude into your mind?

Senior, you have so few memories of the past.

I truly don't remember my past life, you won't get anything by probing me.

Is that so?

But losing your memory doesn't mean that you lose your basic knowledge.

Oh, it's the Human-faced Butterfly? That thing is tricky.

Senior, can you tell me about the Human-faced Butterfly?

This is...

That wasn't kind of you, Senior.

I just wanted to know something. Why did you show me a horror story?

You forcefully intruded into my mind, yet you're complaining now?

Explain then. What was that place? Why were there so many people dead?

Jeez, he started meditating to stop me from probing his memories.

There's a high probability that the suspect is an accomplice of Ji Qingchen.

He should know about the butterfly.

Sir...

How did these frauds get their hands on the mutated Illusory Butterfly?

--Sir... --Worst case scenario is that they've spread it out.

Sir!

Why am I the one acting as if I'm possessed?

Yang, it fits your temperament well. You're our best bet to fool these frauds.

Captain Xuan, someone is approaching us.

Oh? What a thick scent of death.

What do you mean? Has he killed someone?

No, he must have picked up the scent elsewhere.

Something's wrong.

Arrest him!

My sword!

Please clean up the sword.

You're not going anywhere, either.

Senior, I've saved you before, how could you do this to me?

Why would you drag me with you?

Is our captain... killed in action?
