and welcome to the Playmate Playoffs
1986.

We're here at the Playboy Mansion West
in Holmby Hills, California. We could

not have asked for a more beautiful day.

There's excitement in the air because
we're about to begin the world's most

unique sporting event.

And speaking about unique, I'd like for
you to meet my co-host. Not only is she

a Phi Beta Kappa lawyer and a popular
television personality, she will always

be known around here as Playboy's Miss
September 1979, Vicki McCarty. Hi,

honey. Nice to see you.

Yeah. You know, you weren't kidding when
you were saying that this is the world's

most unique sporting event, Chuck.

Twelve Playboy Playmates competing
head-to-head in high-spirited athletics.

And I might add for some very high
stakes. Yeah, this year they're going to

be battling it out for $70,000 in cash
and prizes.

Including this luxurious full-length
Black Llama mink. Isn't it gorgeous?

I'm going to show you. Oh, it's
beautiful. It really is. Very pretty.

It's also very hot today. Yes, it is
very. hot today, so I'm not going to get

to wear it all day. But each girl on the
winning team will go home with one of

these minks. You know, I came out to the
mansion this morning to watch the girls

warm up. They're in great shape, and
they're ready to compete.

All right. Well, let's introduce them to
you right now.

Now, you've all heard of the broad jump.
Well, this one is called... The broad

slide. The object here is for each team
to launch one of its members off this

sled onto our slip and slide runway. The
distance each girl travels after she's

thrown off the sled will be measured,
and the team with the most accumulated

distance will be declared the winner.

Okay. All right.

Let's meet the teams. Let's have the
co-captain. Let's have the referees come

in here. Come on in here.

Police and Kelly.

Kelly, okay.

Come on, editor.

The co-captains, come over here.

Now we're going to have a coin talk to
see who goes on the sled first.

Okay, who's got a coin?

Okay, here's the coin. All right.

Here we go.

That means the red team has tails.

Okay, what are you two to do? You're
going to go on the sled first? All

right, we're underway.

A broad slide.

Well, there's a half a...

Suck it on a Coke?

Pepsi, pardon me. Yes, that's right.

Chuck and Pat have them all lined up.
This is kind of an interesting event

here. You watch this first one, you'll
get an idea of how it goes.

This is Patty Dufek, the first girl from
the blue team.

That's correct.

And they're really rolling. Now watch
this.

And it looks like she's about
three-quarters of the way.

Human torpedo.

See how that holds up? Spray her off a
little bit, get it wet.

Looks like she's in pretty good form.

She's in the restaurant business, I
understand.

Yeah, in Arizona.

Yeah.

All right, let's see who's going to be
up next. There's Roberta.

Is she up next?

Oh, we have the red team up next. Yes,
red team's turn next.

Now, this is Debbie Johnson.

Look at her. What is she going to do?
Grease her body down for this. Good

thinking.

Oh, are you ready?

I mean, please.

Well, I certainly enjoy that. Thank you.

You know, you could have gone down to
the field to help a little bit. Well, I

could have, but I've got to be here.

With me.

There's Brandt. They're off.

And holy cow.

She didn't go very far. The grease
didn't help. She

only made about 38 feet.

She's using her hands. She's not going
to get up, that's for sure. I think she

did her nails today just so she'd get a
little further.

Okay.

And who's up next now? We've got Donna
Smith. Looks like Donna, right.

Now they're greasing her down. See,
that's the job for you, I swear, Chuck.

I know.

It didn't work the last time. They're
still going to try. Donna's from Hawaii.

She just moved here to Los Angeles, as a
matter of fact.

And the girl with the lucky job is Hope
Carlton.

Okay. Maybe you can apprentice to her
sometime.

That'd be fun, huh?

All right. She grabs a hold of the
rings.

Now, watch her as she flies off this
thing. They really get rolling, I'm

telling you. You can't really get the
sense of the speed on television, but

trust me when I tell you.

Now, watch this.

Boom. She's down. Oh, she's doing pretty
good.

She's gone. Oh, yeah. She's still going.
Good night.

Right off the end.

Holy cow.

Well, now, how does she do that? What
does she do?

You're the expert.

Well, I think what happened here is
Coach did a good job oiling her down,

and the oil and water just didn't mix.
She slid right along the top. She slid

right along the top. Makes sense to me.

She's still sliding along the top.

And the bottom.

We'll go to the basketball.

All right, for the red team coming up.

Kimberly MacArthur.

You know, Kim's been so busy recently,
she's been singing rock and roll, one of

the girls of rock and roll in Las Vegas.
Oh, is that right? Yeah, one of the

major clubs.

Watch this.

Here she goes.

And they're off, and... I don't know.
Everybody else went down a little bit

farther than she did, it looks like.
Well, she made it about 52 feet, 51

feet. She's a tiny little girl, you
know. She can have the benefit of extra

height to get the length down on the
tape. Yeah, she's well-cushioned,

though.

Practice. And up on the way back.

If you can't do it downhill, try it
uphill.

That looks like fun. Would you like to
do that? No. No.

Never. Come on. Wouldn't you really?

Uh-uh. Oh, yeah. I'd like to do it.

Well, I think we could work something
out there for you, Chuck. Yeah.

I'll ask the girls after the event. I'm
going to be on their team. Still using?

What are they using? Is it just like an
oil of some kind? It seems like it might

be an oil that they got out of the
bathhouse here at the mansion. You know,

next to the swimming pool. Yeah, it
looks familiar. Maybe it's suntan lotion

or something.

I don't know.

Blue girl up is Kim Heron, I believe.

Now, Kim has had so much success with
these playmates' layoffs for us over the

years. Yes, she has. You know, she's
always been such a good athlete. Great

athlete. Always co-captained one of
these teams. In fact, I think she's

always been in blue.

And here she goes.

She's off to a pretty good run, it looks
like.

All right, look, almost to the end. Kim
Herron. Now, did you see her technique?

She actually pushed off with her arms.

No, I didn't notice that.

How much did she get, about 51, 52 feet?

A little bit more?

Kim is from Santa Barbara, as a matter
of fact. Lives up there and loves the

water. Very athletic, as you can see.

And also very beautiful.

Did you see her in Ghostbusters? Yes, I
did. She was kind of the fantasy dream

or the dream of Dan Aykroyd.

She's fantastic.

She is a beautiful ghost and a beautiful
girl.

For all the guys out there, here we go.

All right, Lourdes Historis is up and
she's off.

Just up to 50 feet.

And he struggles up.

All right.

Whoops. It looks like Linda Weissmeyer.

One of the girls, one of the pullers, as
a matter of fact. Boy, they really do

give that thing a jerk. Did she fall
down while they were pulling the raft?

Apparently so.

We have the paramedics out there with
her right now. We have people to stand

by and take care of the girls in case
anything happens.

It looks like she just got the wind
knocked out of her. She might have hurt

her ribs, though. You never know.

Well, I hope not. I hope she's okay.

Well, we're back to greasing up here
again.

We'll check on Linda Weisbauer and make
sure she's all right. This is Devin

DeVasquez.

You know, Devin's doing really well on
this. Linda seems to be okay.

This looks like a job for Super Chuck.

I was starting to tell you that Devin's
been doing very well on Star Search.

Oh, is that right? In the folks model
competition. Yes, she's very successful

as an actress and a model. I didn't know
that.

And they're revving up to take her down
the ramp.

Here's Hope telling them how to do it
best, the best technique.

And Carrie Lane.

Now watch these girls when they let go.
They always do that.

That's enjoying it as much as we are.

She's going all the way to the end,
looks like.

She's off the mat. Boy, over 70 feet.
That's terrific.

That's great. I still don't understand
why some go farther than others. She's

kind of long and lean. Well, I think,
you know, and I think that tends to be

the shorter ones don't go as far.

And I suppose timing off the line has a
lot to do with it.

Obviously, the blue team's very excited
now.

We're doing real well.

Okay, and coming up, I believe, is...

It's Liz. It's Liz, I think.

She's getting ready on the red team.

Okay.

Here's Liz. Now, Liz is kind of a tall
drink of water as well. She could go

right off the end, too. Yeah, she's kind
of thin, so maybe she'll give them a run

for their money.

All the spray in front of her.

I remember Liz's part. She was a bunny
at the Playboy Club in Los Angeles.

That's correct, yes.

A very, very successful model. Now, if
you notice what she did, she put her

hands behind her, her arms behind her.
Yeah, that technique didn't seem to work

too well. No, it didn't.

I bet she's got everything right there
with her. She'll be enjoying it.

About 31 feet is all she made.

Well, there are a lot of good sports,
the teammates here.

Everybody's still having a good time.

They're supporting her, even if her
technique didn't quite work.

Well, now, there's a lot to oil there.
There's a great deal. This is a full-on

lube job, you find.

Now, Roberta is really an architectural
phenomenon, and she, of course, is

working. She's a bodybuilder as well.
She defies description, Roberta. That's

what she does, I'll tell you that.

I think she would probably sell a lot
more protein powder than Charles Atlas

would as a bodybuilder. I just figured
you'd have to put her on a hoist to oil

her.

All right, she's down. Let's see how she
works. She's a little larger than most

of the other girls.

That hasn't helped too much. No, it
hasn't so far. It helps socially, but it

hasn't helped in this event.

Well, she looks like she's doing pretty
good.

She's still going.

She is.

How did she get here?

I don't know.

It looks like her front rudder system
was giving her a little trouble there

toward the end.

I'm sorry, but you just can't help it.

Oh, dear.

Roberta also gave me a little trouble.

See, there she knows.

This is the first time she's ever heard
any comments to that effect. I'm sure.

Those cheap shots.

Here's Kim and Devin.

I think that was for you, Chuck. Was
that for me? How to make friends and

influence people.

And... Kim Evenson.

This is Kim Evenson.

Whoa, everybody went down on that one.
Good night.

She's still going pretty good.

They need to make a couple off the end,
and I don't think she... Boy, just

about. Well, she went just about as far
as Roberta, and she's going to choose a

little bit.

We'll try.

She may be a little behind.

I think I'll step out and take a look at
this little behind.

Well, she's a little behind out here.

Well, while Chuck goes down to the
field, we'll have time to take a look at

the instant replay of the accident that
involved Linda Wiesmeyer.

Here it is. Lourdes is on the raft, and
Linda's in the lower left-hand corner.

And you see, she never really had her
balance. The rest of the team started

pulling, and she was never quite ready.

And she steps onto the raft, and down
she goes.

Oh, looks like it could have been pretty
painful. I hope she's okay.

And here's another angle of it.

You see, she trips and lands prematurely
on her chest and her rib section.

All right, we got a winner. It's the
blue team.

All right, girls.

It's the blue team. All right, got
everybody. Hope, Devin, Patty, Donna,

Roberta. Congratulations.

Very nice of you.

You guys really walked off with this
thing. What was your strategy? You have

a good strategy? Take forever.

What did you notice was the best thing
that you did? Every team member, whoever

was laying on the pad, you had four
others. You just get a little more

momentum. Yesterday we got down some
timing, and I figured out what was the

easiest way to go, either on your butt
or on your stomach.

It's better to slide. Oh, we put your
two best points forward, you know.

I love this job.

You want to know the differential
between the two teams? Yeah. All right,

blue team, 315 feet and 11 inches.

Red team was 239-9.

You just walked off with it. So
congratulations.

Yes. All right.

Where's the team for you?

We got muscle. We got style.

Watch us, baby. We'll drive you wild.

This is Chuck Willery. We'll see you in
a minute.

Well, if we enjoy the beauty here in
Hugh Hefner's backyard, the score is red

zero and blue one.

Now let's go to Chuck and Pat for the
next event.

Hey, our next event is called the Pie
High Hurdles.

Now, each girl runs the length of this
tarp carrying a whipped cream pie.

Now, they have to throw their pie over
each of the three hurdles, then catch

it. If they drop their pie, they have to
go back and get another pie and start

over again.

The team that gets the most pies in
these bins down here is the winner.

Right, Chuck?

Right, Pebble.

Well gee, Chuck, that's nice of you to
demonstrate the pie throwing thing. You

didn't have to go to this extent, Chuck.
What a great guy. Now people get the

idea of this spot.

Thank you, Chuck.

Oh, they're characters, aren't they?

They're great.

Now, this is really fun. This year we've
done a little bit differently because

they've set it up on a zigzag.

And before, if you remember, on our
preceding years, it was a little bit

different. You kind of watch and you'll
see what's going on with the two girls.

Well, here's Liz Stewart in the red and
Donna Smith in the blue leading off to

their team.

And they have to throw it over, catch
it. If they drop it, they have to start

all over again, right back at the spot
that they dropped it.

It's like the red's a little ahead at
this time. Kimberly MacArthur steps out

for red and... Kimberly Heron for blue.

Him against Kim. Kimberly MacArthur.
Remember the time?

Yes. Oh, yes. She went down 50 times.

We've probably practiced enough now over
the years doing this event.

You've got to be pretty good at it.
Well, she made it this time, at least

the first time through.

You know what gets so dangerous about
this event, Chuck, is the more pies we

drop, the more whipped cream is on that
tart. And it gets so slippery.

It sure does. Look at Roberta. And they
get it all over them, as you can see.

I hope it tastes good. I'd love a
chocolate one myself.

Blues are way out in front at this
point. They've got to be. Here's Devin.

He's pretty confident, kind of cautious,
but steady going.

And red's starting to catch up a little
bit. Just moving ahead. Debbie's moving

ahead.

Yep, there they come.

And there's Kim Evenson starting for the
red. She's a little ahead. I don't know

if we might be one runner behind on the
red team at this point. Oh, you think

so? What the heck? Oh, I'm embarrassed.

She's such a good host.

I hope that looks real pleased over
there.

Yeah, I think you're right. You are
about one behind.

But during this, as you know, the
slipper it gets, anything can happen

when it usually does.

You know, it's so hard to keep track of
this event. What we have to do at the

end is go in and count the pies after
the clock has run out. I know. It's all

you can do.

Here's Lourdes.

And Kim Herron's back up again.

Yes, so obviously they're ahead.

Lourdes is quite fast.

She is fast. She's a little tiny girl
compared to the other girls.

Especially compared to King Heron.

Is that Roberta?

And Liz thinks we have a problem. They
have to go back and get another pie.

Well, Roberta's got no problems at all.

Roberta and Liz are both tall, so it
shouldn't be as much of a problem for

them to get it over the bar. Liz is done
now. She's on her way back.

Hey, Kevin.

Concentrating? Oh, yeah.

And another pie down.

Devin got her pie in.

Now up for the red team is Debbie
Johnson.

Meanwhile,

Donna's got the pie and dropped it for
the blue team. So both of them are

willing to get more pies.

It takes a couple of minutes into this
event to get it really greased up real

good. Meanwhile, Donna Smith is just
racing down.

Now they're going to be real careful,
because the way back is zigzag, too, and

it's getting worse.

One more, Donna. Good.

Time's got to be getting pretty close
now.

He made up for good time there.

There comes Kim and Erin again. She's
done this a million times. This is the

third time. Third time up for Kim.

Oh, Lourdes is down. She lost it, and
back she goes again.

Get another pie. I get such a kick out
of watching the rest of the teammates

yelling encouragement and giving advice.

Stop and ask her out for tea.

I don't know. At this point, you can't
help it.

You can't get mad at them.

Now watch when they start back to take
little bitty steps.

But she made it.

Little fast baby steps all the way back.

Anything else would be treacherous at
this point.

The bird is making it through every time
with no problem.

You know,

it seems as if the run back is more
frightening than the run back. That's

right, yeah.

What happens is you try to get back as
fast as you can because you know you're

on the clock and you want to get ahead.

You'll take a few chances, but at least
you don't have to worry about dropping a

pie. All right, Kim.

She made it.

I'm proud of her. She's finally got this
event down.

She does. She hasn't learned a hit on
the way back yet, though.

She's very brave about taking that extra
skid to make up time. Look at Donna. She

won't run.

She's afraid.

Looks like a new dance.

Upset. You know, it seems to me that
this year we have some of the faster

girls on the red team, but the taller
girls on the blue team. I think you may

be right. So in this event, it might be
a little harder for the red team to get

the pies over, but they might be faster
coming back down the top.

Well, it's got to be getting close to
the end of this thing. The clock is up.

There it is. Yeah. Okay. I'm going to
step out and talk to these girls. I hope

they don't nail me this year.

judging from the past and judging from
the enthusiasm down there on the field,

Chuck is in definite danger here.

When there's a good time to be had,

And, if you'll excuse the pun, Chuck is
now being creamed.

Oh, that man has so much fun.

What a good sport.

You know, that was like an expensive
suit he's got on, too. I hope that all

washes out.

Wait a second. Who's that blonde? That
looks like Linda Weissmeyer in there.

I guess she couldn't resist the fun of
some whipped cream, even though she's

injured.

I'll never do this again, ever. You're
the worst.

If Frank Gifford starts this way, I
mean, how humiliating.

Well,

I was going to take a break there. It
looks like it's getting interesting.

Well,

this is the educational part of our
program. We'll be moving on to the other

event.

I'll be back with more fun just a little
bit later. You're the worst.

Well, after two events, the score is
blue two and red zero.

And I hope Chuck is going to be a
gentleman enough to help these girls

find various pieces of their bathing
suits in that mess.

Now let's go back to Chuck and Pat for
the next event.

Our next event is going to be wet and
wild.

It's called water volleyball.

Each team tries to score points by using
water hoses like this.

And then they try and drive the ball out
of one end of the court or the other.

And the team with the most points wins.

Right, Chuck?

You're right, Pat. Why the umbrella?

I'm kidding.

I don't want to get messed up. Oh,
you're no dummy.

Okay, Scotty, beam me up.

My gosh, what happened to you? You know
Jack Frost.

What do you think happened to me?

Well, listen, I came to tell you
something. We've got some serious news.

You know, we had an injury in the broad
slide event.

Linda Wiesmeyer was hurt, and the
paramedics have decided it's best if she

not go on with the rest of the game.

I'll offer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
I'll let her know that.

Yes,

not the problem.

But in the meantime, lest we be one
woman short, we do have someone to fill

in for her. We have Miss March 1984,
Donna Spear. So I'd like you to meet

both of them.

Well, at first I lost my wind, and that
hurt, and then I jabbed my elbow into my

rib, and I think I have a bruised rib.
It seemed like, do you have a mark or

anything from this? It seemed like
paramedics were, oh, my God.

This girl will never drown.

She will always flow.

Even though you're not going to be
competing, you're going to be here

urging your team on. And what about your
injury?

Not yet.

Well, Donna, you're kind of coming under
the gun because your team is now two

events down. Yeah, well, we're going to
pull double strong today and see if we

can pull them off four bucks.

As a favor to me, injure your ass,

okay?

I'm glad I didn't have to go through
that part. I got out of there just in

time. I know. That water's cold, too.
It's very cold. Thank God it's a nice,

warm day.

I know. We always have a backup player,
by the way, in case anyone's hurt. Look

at Linda there, hosing her down even
though she's not competing.

Just for fun. Ready to go, and they're
off.

The object of this game, obviously, is
to get your ball off of the net, round

to the other's turf, and that's you done
by the use of hoses.

You know, this is one of those events
where it doesn't really matter how tall

the girls are or how fast they are. It's
really the concentration. It's almost,

well, if I may say, lessons in physics.
They're placing the water just in the

right place to get the maximum force to
not only push their own ball, but to

repel the other team's ball.

And looking good while they're doing it.
There's Liz and Kim offering a little

advice in the sideline.

It looks like the Blues are just about
to make a run on the Reds. The Reds got

one over.

They snuck it by. That happens real
quick.

Be very careful. Now, Hope seems a
little upset about something here.

I don't know if this is her
sportsmanship or if she has a valid

complaint. Maybe her water pressure's
up.

Her blood pressure definitely is.

The Reds don't care. They'll take any
victory they can get at this point.

We're going to crank them up and go at
it again.

It's like the Red Team already has a
jump on them again. See, I think they

just seem to understand how to best aim
that water.

Oh, they're trying.

They're trying.

It's like volleyball once it gets off
the net. I know.

What happened to the other ball?

Oh, look at that.

The Reds got two.

Oh, they're nailing them.

And everybody's wet.

I don't have to interview after this, do
I?

Well, it's going to be a surprise.

We're not going to tell you for a little
while, Chuck.

And a third time up.

Kim Evenson is a little upset.

Apparently she got water in the eyes,
and it looks like it kind of made a nice

stir or something run.

Might have burned a little bit. You
know, those things are pointed straight

up. I don't see how they could possibly
hit each other.

It would be a tactic that would be
interesting, wouldn't it?

Injure the other team.

Just be a stalemate, but then it changes
so quickly once the water presses on the

ball. Boy, is that concentration.

I don't know what made me ask this, but
have you ever seen a wet t-shirt contest

before? Yes, I have.

And they're fun.

Oh, no. Red almost got it again.

What happens is they lose it, though.
They take the concentration.

Blue got one by him. Yes, you did.

They're just going on.

Plus,

they've got netting over the top, so it
can't fly out the top.

The determination here is amazing.

LAPD, I'd love to have these girls.

Kim Herron is in the backfield for the
blue team where she really exercises her

beach volleyball skills because she's
got to pound that ball back in with her

fist when it comes her way. And it's got
to be between the top net and the bottom

net. Right. In the overhead.

Here's our new entry. That's right,
Debbie Spiel.

Donna Spiel.

Oh,

it's close again. It's close again.

Oh, they got it again. Those Reds did it
again.

Now that's a fan.

The Blues have got one off.

What's the score?

Oh, they have favorites here. It looks
like Debbie Johnson had a special fan.

I'm sure we've got referees, because I
can't tell what's happening at this

point. Can you? I have no idea.

This looks like a lot of fun.

It looks like hard work to me for some
reason. That ball just seems so hard to

manage.

The dumb girl is like a good athlete.
She's going to be a good athlete for the

Redskins.

I don't know whether anybody's paying
any attention to the balls or not. I

think most people are watching the
girls.

I hope there are enough blow dryers in
the bathhouse for after this event.

I think even the audience is wet at this
point.

Oh, the blue team's almost got one going
over.

Well, they can't make any headway,
though. The red team's got this one

down.

Now, I'm starting to see a strategy
here, that the red team has the smaller

girls holding the hoses and the taller
girls in the back.

Yeah, trying to push it up another yard,
trying to get away from them, and that's

one for the blue.

Kim Evenson?

And that's the end of the event.

We had discussed something about a
penalty when it came to getting hit with

water in the face. I was.

Let me tell you something. I saw myself
deliberately getting hit in the face.

It's a matter of interpretation, and we

events, the score is Blue Team 2 and Red

Let's go to Chuck and Pat and find out
how the next event works.

Our next competition is called the
Bucking Horse Game.

What did you say? Come on. I said
bucking weird pants.

Oh. Now, the object here is for each
girl to try and stay in the saddle while

the opposing team makes the horse buck
by shaking these ropes.

Oh, kind of like my honeymoon night.
That's right.

The team that stays on the longest is
the winner.

Now, Chuck, would you like to give it a
try?

Are you out of your bucking mind?

I wouldn't do that. All right. Well,
let's let him get at it.

All right, the girls are up here. You
know, this is a tough event, Vicki. This

one, I don't know why. I would be so
afraid to get on that horse.

I watched them when they were practicing
this morning, and it bucked so high.

I know.

Now, we have Kim MacArthur, good sport,
cowgirl from Texas. Cowgirl from Texas.

She's up, and look at them throw.

Look at this. Oh.

Oh. Oh, no.

She's hanging on there. Yeah, she's
hanging on there pretty good.

I think this takes leg strength.

And great balance.

You need to have the other team really
mad at you. She made it through the

whole event with no problem. So the red
team got one to their credit. Let's see

who's stepping up for the blue.

I think it's Hope. Hope Carlson.

Gosh, it's not even easy to get on that.
They just jump up with enthusiasm,

though, don't they? I need a little
ladder or something for that one. All

right, they're off. Let's watch this

I think they were waiting to see if they
could see me. Look at that red team

I don't know who it's toughest on.

Oh, my gosh. He's got a good seat here.

I think we should pull faster, don't
you? I don't know that you'd be going in

opposite directions or what. Yeah, try
to upset the balance. I'm sure they'll

work it out as the event goes on,
though. Well, all tied up now.

Now we'll have a red girl step in. Oh,
look at those birds. Aren't they

beautiful? Can you imagine having those
in your backyard? That's my favorite. I

play with him all the time. He's fine.

Now here's Donna Spears.

This is our replacement for the red team
who took Linda's place.

You know, Donna is a very successful
model in particular bathing suits she

models, and I can sort of see why, can't
you? She is so pretty. Very pretty girl.

She's a really pretty girl. She's a
great figure.

She's hanging on pretty good. She's
going to pull her hair out.

She's got to get a hold of something
with that left hand.

She's making it all right.

She made it. Boy, everybody's hanging on
there. I would never have thought.

Anybody will get this far. I never. And
you know what? We don't really know, but

you'll hear how hard the horse, the
buckles are hit.

Yes. Every time it hits the bottom, it
really jars you.

But I guess they kind of brace that.
They're pushing it with their feet.

Okay.

Donna Smith. Donna Smith. Oh, she just
put her second hand down. You can't do

that. And you hear the whistle blowing.
So you try to hold on with two hands. So

that's a break for the red team.

She's sliding off and getting ready for
a red competitor to step up.

Hopefully, she'll do the same as far as
she's concerned.

And this is Kim Evenson.

Liz is giving her a little advice,
telling her to hold on. See, she's not

so tall, so her legs aren't very long.
It's going to be harder for her to get a

grip. Yeah, that's right. That's
correct.

And here she goes. Look at the blue
team's goal. She's hanging on to her

head. Oh, my gosh. Boy, she's really.

They're all going to have little bald
patches on the back of their heads. Oh,

my God.

Pulling it out.

Look at those girls. I mean, they are
just going at it with a vengeance.

Take out all your aggressors. You're
right here. Oh, I know.

She's making it all right. They're
getting her off balance, but she's

holding on.

Well, they start to tire after a while.

And if they're not careful, you can see
they start pulling against each other.

And she made it through with no problem.

And her teammates are awfully glad to do
it.

Linda's there. Even though she can't
play, she has not left the field. She's

right there encouraging the red team. I
think that's wonderful.

She'll be there to support them. She's
still a part of it.

her eyes.

Not only does she have to ride, but she
has to ride a blindfolded.

Taking a deep breath. Now they start
pulling against each other. See, that's

what happens. It gives her a little
relaxation.

They have to stay on for 30 seconds, and
it must seem like an eternity when

you're on them.

Boy, it would to me.

They don't have to be in good shape.
I'll tell you that.

What do you think? They look like
they're in good shape to me. They look

like they're in great shape to me.

That's right.

Well, they get a break while the blue
team has to pull them off.

All right. Here's Liz Stewart.

Liz Stewart jumps aboard.

Give her a little advice.

She's hanging on to what hair she has.
She's got kind of short hair.

Yeah, she's got that beautiful face.

She's almost going to use that hand she

Ah, she did. Yep, she grabbed it with
her other hand. Yep.

The fans have been great here today,
don't you think, Chad? Yeah, we've had a

lot of people out here today supporting
all the girls, and it's always fun to

have them in the crowd.

Kind of cheers them on and sparks them

She's determined.

Devin DeVasquez, here she goes. She's
facing a firing squad.

Oh, she's up.

You know, I think he almost knew he was
going to fall.

He went down like thunder.

Oh, the red team's getting pretty
excited already.

All right, and up for the red team is
Debbie Johnson.

She looks a little bit sheepish about
this one, too. Maybe she's got some

second thoughts. I don't know.

She's holding onto her shirt.

She's down already.

She's already down. It looks like she
hit her head when she was falling

forward on the horse.

Oh, she might really be hurt.

Here come the paramedics now to take a
look.

Well, they'll take care of her if she
is. Oh, sure.

I hope she's not hurt badly.

Oh, my gosh.

She's in trouble. She hurt her nose.

I can't tell whether she cut the outside
of her nose or if she's bleeding from

inside.

Oh, obviously. Look at the girls.
They're very upset.

You know, one of the things that you
have to understand, Chuck, having been a

playmate, I can say this. There is such
close feeling and affection between the

girls. That one thing happens to one of
them, and all of them get, they feel it.

Well, yeah. And look at Devin here. They
probably feel a little responsible

because they were pulling the horse on
them. Well, but you have to also

remember that so many precautions are
taken for the safety of the girls during

these events.

Of course they are. But I guess in any
athletic competition, there's always

some small risk of injury.

There's always a chance, and you never
know. The different players respond

differently. I'll go down and talk to
them and see what happens.

And in the meantime, I'll take a look at
an instant replay to try to determine

exactly what happened here.

See, it seems to me that she hit her
nose on the bucking horse right there

and was already injured before she fell
off.

See, she seems to be grimacing, but I
don't know if it's because she's holding

on so tight or not.

I can't quite tell whether it's the
horse's head that hits her or if she

hits the body of the horse.

But see, her hand comes up to her face.
She's obviously already hurt at this

point, and she's trying to cushion her
fall.

Okay, here we are. I'm with one of the
referees here, and she's going to tell

us exactly what happened after the dust
settled, where everybody is, and what's

going on. What's happening?

Well, after Debbie fell off, she injured
her nose, and the blue team, though, has

decided they want to ride their last
time.

And the blue team needs exactly 16
seconds to tie and 17 seconds to win.

So they're going to ride, and, I mean,
obviously, any time you go into

something like this, anything can
happen, and obviously it did. She's hurt

her nose. We don't know what condition
it is. We'll give you an update on that

a little bit later. Who's going to ride
for the blue team?

Okay, Roberta, come here just a little
bit.

Now, you all made this decision based on
wanting to win, I suppose.

Are you a little nervous about going on
this thing after that happened?

As long as I stay on and hold on tight
and don't fall off, I can't get hurt.

Well, we all wish you good luck, and
wish good luck to both teams, and here

we go.

Well, that's an awfully courageous girl.
I think everybody's a little upset after

what happened to Debbie Johnson, but
this is the element of sportsmanship

here, and it's her turn, so she's going
to take a ride.

I think she needs 17 seconds to win this
event.

Oh, and just a couple of seconds into
it, her hand is down.

Well, I'm back. It looks like the Reds
took this one. Yes, they did. And they

needed it.

Now, this is exciting.

I think they all got their energy back
after having another victory. You know,

the Reds seemed to be getting a little
demoralized there for a minute.

Yeah, they were.

But it looks like, you know, they're
back on track again and did pretty well.

Boy, it's a new ball game. It's two to
two. Red two, blue two.

All right, and that's Donna Spear up on
the horse. Boy, does she look good or

what?

Is this what they mean by poetry in
motion?

That would be a good definition for me.

I think of other things as well. Now,
this is getting very exciting at this

point, you know, this neck-and-neck
competition.

Here's Pat and Chuck.

What event is this, Pat?

Well, this event is a killer. It's
called jailbait, sharkbait. The girls

have to shimmy across the grease pole
here carrying a beach ball. Now, if they

make it across the first line, they get
five points. The second line, another

five points. The third line, another
five points. That's about the size of

it. And if they can hang on to the ball
and carry it across all three lines,

they get another five points for a
possible maximum of 20 points. How about

that? This game was created by Mother
Teresa.

But there is a catch. The girls on the
opposing teams will try to knock their

opponents into the water with two big
fat bean bags.

Hey, are they making fun of us? No, just
of you.

Oh.

Chuck McGann in rare form.

As always.

Now, if you've noticed, if you've
watched these shows in the past, they

normally use one of these bags. This
year, two bags before they're off.

Roberta Vasquez is the first one.

She's on the log.

So they have to go.

And also, this is the first time I think
that we've actually measured the pole so

that you get points for crossing each
section.

That's correct.

Donna Spear has the first bag, and she's
picking up the technique pretty quickly.

Roberta's hanging on all right.

Hope is at the opposite end, encouraging
her on.

That looks like it hurts. I know it
doesn't, but it looks like it does.

Oh, in the head.

She's hanging on pretty good there.

They can't wrap their legs around it,
and they can't wrap their hands around

it. They do lose points.

Trying to hang on. Oh, but he couldn't.

they'd read that thing up to him.

Pure animal fat. I think I would just
jump immediately to get off that pole

and get away from the bag.

in her mouth.

See, they've made it fair by not
allowing the girls to hook their legs

underneath because when a small girl
like Lourdes gets on there, she can't

get that grip. That's right, she can't.

football in her mouth.

way. Look at Liz do it. Oh, two of them

this grease off the front of their body.

the sponge and you can go down there.

She said her feet were so greasy she
couldn't get it out as it was.

Oh, and she's the one who's so good on
the bag. She's going to see what it

feels like to be the object of the bag.
And there she, boy, is her first hit.

I'd fall into that if I were you. A

I think she only knows the feel of mink,
and she wants that coat.

Because the girls can't lock their feet
underneath and they can't grab their

Well, the blue team's feeling pretty
confident at this point. You know, they

only need one more event to win the mink
coat.

Well, that's true. I guess that's true.
I'm going to try to dry off all these

girls to get them ready. Here's Pat and
Chuck to tell you about the next one.

Well, what time is it now, Pat? Well,
it's time for our next event. We call

it... Excuse the expression.

The hump relay.

Oh, the hump relay.

Isn't that two camels mating?

Yes. The hump relay. And it's run like
any other relay. One runner completes

the course and taps the next runner to
begin and so on until the end. Yeah.

They can run over the humps, slide over
the humps, or use the rope to pull

themselves over the humps. Is that
clear, Pat? That's right. And at the

end, they tap us and the real hump relay
begins.

Taylor, let out my pants.

You bet.

There's Hope leading off for the blue
team and Kim Evenson for the red team.

This is a great event. I love this one.

This one's the most grueling, I think.
Oh, I love this one.

I mean, they really have to work. She
runs fast. Oh, yeah.

Both fast. Now, watch this.

They don't even use the rope. Look how
they're getting over the top here.

Donna's fair. Oh, she doesn't quite have
the technique on that one. She needs

more of a running start.

Oh, they can kill you, too.

But Kim Heron has been in this event
before, and she's got it down pat.

The Blues are going to walk with it.
It's the best two out of three, I'll

remind everybody.

Patty Busek is just starting hers, and
Donna is still on that middle hook. She

just can't get over it. Patty gets
stuck, and they're in pretty good shape.

And she's stuck, boys. She's using the
rope, but still not getting a lot of

assistance from it. She made it. She
made it over there. Good work.

And Donna made it. Is Donna back?

There goes Liz.

Liz needs a little stronger start.

Yeah, she had the long length to do it,
but she just didn't push off hard

enough. And look at Fort Patty.

Wow, that's tough.

And they have to do this quite a few
times because, as you say, it's the best

of three. That's right. Liz is just
going to go on and on and on. Here's

Because she has really competed.

She is on the money, isn't she? And Kim

Wow. Now, Patty's doing much better
than... Well, she was doing better the

second time around.

She almost made it. She's over it. Yeah,
she wins.

Kim McArthur is doing great this year.
She really is. She's another veteran of

these events. I know, but a late
bloomer. Kim has not done well until

this year, frankly.

She's doing great. She's been a great
competitor and a lot of fun and

everything, but not really good at the
event.

Did you see Lourdes attack that first
time?

I know.

Look at, she just curls that leg over
the top and hooks it and has it pull her

over. She has it down, doesn't she?
That's the technique.

Ah, missed it, though. She missed that
second one. You have to keep in mind how

fatiguing this is. You might be great
the first time through, but like

Roberta, it might just be too much to
have to do it again.

Right.

This is why the blue team probably hopes
they win this time so they don't have to

do this event three times.

Well, looks like the red team's on their
way to winning this, and if they do, you

know what that means. If the red team
wins it, they tie it up, and they go

into the last event absolutely, and
they've got it. They've got it won.

No problems, and... So in this event,
it's tied.

If the red team wins this event, then
the entire competition is tied. That's

right. The mink coats and the money.

That's right. However, if the blue takes
this next leg, that means they have the

mink coats.

Right, but they're still competing for
money, so the competition goes on.

That's right.

team holds on. Boy, they're really

Chuck and hear about the last

competition.

What's our final event, Chuck? Oh, our
final event is called the Obstacle

Relay, and it's unlike any obstacle
course you've ever seen.

Mud balls and more balls.

It's kind of like the floor of a
circumcision rabbi with the shakes.

Well, kind of. The first team to get
everybody home wins.

Let's do the Sedaris drop.

Okay.

Did you understand any of that? Well,
all I understand is I got out of the

last event unscathed.

But this is the big one. This is the
most beautiful. And by the way, we have

to mention that the people who did this
sets were great this year. They're

really good. The girls are all lined up.

You know, we're competing here for
$2,000.

That's why the red team is still trying
so hard.

That was Donna Spear and Hope Carlton.
Now they go through these kind of

plastic balls.

There must be five feet of them in
there. Then across the mud, try to stay

out of it. Tim Evenson. Whoops.

And then into the balloon cage.

And now through that red's ahead again.
I don't know how they know where they're

going once they get into those balloons.
Once they get in there, I don't either.

Kim's fast.

There's Roberta.

There's Liz Stewart trying to get
through all those balls.

I would have thought she'd be taller.
She'd have a little bit of an edge

there, but I guess not.

Anybody who moves that agilely must be

She can't even stay in the lane. She's
got so much energy making that curve.

Doesn't matter. She's coming in before

this event. I'm tired, too.

Patty Dufek, you know, those balls seem
to be the hardest part here. They are

hard to get through. I tried to get
through them earlier today, and they're

hard. Girls do better at night, Pam,
I'll tell you that.

Don't you remember that mud from the
last competition? Yes, I do. It took me

a week and a half to get it off my body.

If we're lucky, nobody will end up there
this time.

really leading the team on.

You know, there's so much camaraderie
among these girls that the competition

is really pretty much forgotten at this
point, and everybody's just having so

much fun together. You can't tell the
reds from the blues, and it doesn't

matter.

I have a feeling everybody's been
planning to take Roberta's top off since

this competition began.

Somehow her bathing suit top seems to be
the coveted one.

I wonder if Chuck's in the shower and
missing this at this point.

Today's competition, the final score is
Blue 5, Red 2.

And over there being hosed off is Chuck
with his lovely wife, Terry.

I have to tell you, Terry has been
running around here like such a good

sport, taking pictures of him getting
whipped creamed, thrown in the pool and

everything else. So while they get
cleaned up, let's take a look at a

tribute we've prepared to the beauty of
all the competitors.

extraordinary athletic competition.

There's no question about it. It sure
has been. As you said earlier, Chuck,

there's nothing like this in the whole
wide world. That's true. Now, before we

award the medals and present the
well-deserved prizes, I might add, I'd

like to thank our Playmate Playoff
commissioners, Pat McCormick and Chuck

McCann, for a job well done. Thanks,

Looks like the trapping season's been
good to you, Chuck. Yeah, how about

And, darling, it's always been a delight
