The Oregon Trail was the longest, hardest, and most dangerous route to the far west.

It stretched from the Missouri River to the Willamette Valley, running 2,000 miles across

plains, deserts, canyons, and mountains.

During the 40 years of its existence, the Oregon Trail claimed more than 34,000 lives,

17 for every mile traveled.

Some died from Indian attacks, some from illness, and others simply from the hardships of the

trail.

This story is about one such crossin' and the people who made it.
