Ping Pong

This show is the selected drama by NRTA

in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the PRC,

and was funded under the 2019 Art Creation of Hubei.

Episode 44

This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance is purely coincidental.

Brother Tan.

Congratulations.

You finally won a world championship.

Brother Tan.

I admire your ability to defeat Yu Ke Nan.

But what I find more admirable about you is that

you tried to win the match

by fair means or foul.

I'll get going.

Here, take a look.

How spacious.

Good job, Son.

You've really become successful.

Lin Di.

If I hadn't insisted on having Tan Tan play ping-pong back then,

would we have had such a big house?

And there's the second floor.

How do we get up there?

Over there.

There are stairs here.

What's wrong, Mom? You're not happy?

Why

would I not be happy?

Son.

I am,

from the bottom of my heart,

really proud of you.

Ping-Pong Training Center of General Administration of Sport of China

From now on,

everyone of you will start preparing for the Olympics.

The list of participants is to be decided.

The Olympics is the utmost priority.

Olympics 335 Days To Go

Everyone of you must go out to cooperate with us.

Got it?

Got it!

I'm sorry, Mr Fu.

I shouldn't have kept my knee injury from you.

I will accept any punishment.

Mr Fang

has told me the truth long ago.

You knew it?

Now that you've won the world championship,

what's your next plan?

I hope I can join the Olympics.

German and Japan are our fierce competitors

in the Rio Olympics.

We'll have a hard time dealing with the team competition.

Judging from the current situation,

you'll be part of it.

But I'm afraid my knee injury...

I've contacted

some of my old foreign friends lately.

And I've hired a professional rehabilitation team for you.

If you want to play for the Olympics,

Rehabilitation and Treatment Plan

we can do nothing but to postpone the surgery.

The core idea of rehabilitation team is

to continuously strengthen

the other muscle groups around the knee,

And make your knee stable

with the strongest muscle.

It's to relieve your knee injury temporarily.

And there are many successful cases abroad.

Although it can't totally heal your knee injury,

at least it gives you a chance

to play for the Olympics in a better condition.

But in order to make this plan happen,

you must work

extra harder.

Rest assured.

These sufferings

are nothing for me.

However,

I'll make one thing clear.

During this process,

if anything ever happens to you,

you'll be replaced by someone else.

Got it.

I will never affect the overall team performance

because of some personal factor again.

Okay.

You and Song Min

will be training for the doubles event.

What about Yu Ke Nan?

The team will see to that.

Friendship Forever

Liu Shi

Hello, what's up?

Hello?

Is this Brother Tan?

Xu Tan.

Are you busy?

What's up, boss?

Yuan Ran and I will get married soon.

And I'd like to invite you

to be my best man.

Well...

If you're too busy, just forget about it.

Cut it out.

Of course I have to attend your wedding.

I knew you'd say that.

I'm going to invite Yu Ke Nan.

I want him to be my best man, too.

But he hasn't picked up his phone.

Both of you are too important to me.

Very important.

If he didn't attend it,

I think I had to break up with him.

Well, I'll make it a grand wedding

because both of you are world champions.

I'll do that for you guys.

Turn right at the intersection.

Turn right at the intersection ahead.

We're almost there.

Hurry up, let's go.

Let's go.

Quick.

Hurry up, go after them.

Open the door.

Open the door.

We won't open it!

We're not opening it. We won't let you in.

Whoever in there,

I've got a big red envelope here.

Open the door now.

How can I give you the red envelope if you don't open it?

Open the door!

Open the door!

You want to get married by giving out only a red envelope? No way!

If you want to come in, you must answer some questions first.

That's right.

Let's see if you really know our Yuan Ran.

Brothers, give me some power.

I hope everything goes smoothly and I can take Yuan Ran's hand.

Bring it on!

Here comes the first question.

Which city in Germany

did Yuan Ran go to study?

Dü...

Düsseldorf!

Correct!

How did you know?

I was there for a match.

A match.

The second question.

What's Yuan Ran's favourite anime character?

Mitsui!

Correct!

How did you know?

There's a poster in her office.

My good brother, you did the homework for me.

Here comes the last question. Listen carefully.

The groom isn't allowed to answer it. Let the best men do it.

Who's Liu Shi's first love?

-Little Fairy! -Little Fairy!

Correct!

We're here!

Wifey, you're so pretty.

Let's go, then.

Hold your horse.

You've been in a relationship for years.

And the wedding is an important event. Let's not rush things.

Our bride has lost her shoes.

How can she attend the wedding banquet?

She's lost her shoes?

I'll carry her, then.

He'll carry her.

Well, since you've been doing well today,

I'll give you guys two options.

Number one, go home now.

Number two, the best men accept the challenge.

I'll go with the second one.

All right.

Do you see the four characters of happiness?

Both of you will share a paddle.

And we will randomly throw a ball.

You need to hit the ball onto the character together.

Don't let go of the paddle

or you will lose. Okay?

Okay, we're ready.

Ready, go!

Nice shot!

Yuan Ran.

I'm actually not good with words.

And I have no idea what to say now.

But I'll use my whole life to prove that

I love you.

Mr Liu Shi, Ms Yuan Ran Banquet Hall

The beautiful bride is walking slowly

towards the stage with her father.

The father is walking this short distance

with his daughter.

But it's the happiest journey

in the daughter's whole life.

Because at the end of the road,

is a man who will be with her forever

and who has promised her happiness.

Every one of you is going to witness

the exchange of vows between the couple.

Please welcome our best man and bridesmaid

as they present the couple the diamond rings.

Wait a minute.

Fatty.

Before we proceed,

I have something to tell Liu Shi.

Liu Shi.

You once told me that

you're born from a stone.

Just like Sun Wu Kong, you're parentless.

Even though you were laughing while saying that,

I know

you felt very upset.

Sometimes I will blame myself.

Why am I just an ordinary girl?

If I could time travel,

I would go back in time

and grow up with you.

If I could erase memories,

I would get rid of

all your unhappy memories.

If I were a superman,

I would help you find your mother

among the crowd.

But I'm nothing.

I can only...

I can only do my best and promise you...

I'll promise you with my whole life.

I, Yuan Ran,

from now on,

will be your friend, your lover,

and your family.

I'll definitely give you a happy home.

Yes!

Kiss!

Kiss!

Kiss!

Yes, cheers!

Here.

-Cheers. -Drink up.

Let's toast.

Knock yourself out.

Drink up if you see me as your bro.

It's not our wedding though.

You're close with Liu Shi.

You should drink it up.

Mr Qin.

We're together now.

I'll go

ask Mr Fu.

-I'll talk to you later. -Sure.

I'll be waiting for you.

Mr Fu.

Mr Fang.

Master.

Let me toast to you all.

You have my blessing.

Thank you.

Happy wedding.

Happy wedding to us.

I'll drink it up.

Don't drink too much.

Drink up.

I'm going there now.

Mr Liu.

Slowly.

Okay.

Let's go there

and drink with them.

-Master, I'm going there. -Sure, go ahead.

Qin Zhen.

Master, let's drink to it.

Okay.

-Are you all right? -No problem.

No problem.

How do you feel? Are you okay?

Thank you, Coach.

Yuan Ran.

I love you so much.

Okay.

I'm all right. I'll leave you to it.

I'll just stay here with my brothers.

Fine, then. Yu Ke Nan, Xu Tan.

You'll keep an eye on him.

I'm going to settle the hotel bill.

I'll be right back to get Liu Shi home.

-Rest assured. -Okay.

Let's head home.

Go home.

I'm heading home.

Go home.

Wait.

Go home?

Little Fairy was here.

Let's head home. I'm going home.

Don't lie here, you'll catch a cold.

Don't touch me.

I'm touching you.

Yu Ke Nan.

I'm Xu Tan from Team Beijing.

Starting from today,

I'll set myself

a higher target.

Bite on Yu Ke Nan.

You're quite different from what they say.

What?

What different?

They say you're hot-headed and unapproachable.

But I find you quite nice.

Xu Tan.

I didn't come here to make friends.

What happened?

Coach, I touched it.

You have nothing to do with the trophy incident.

Why did you have to own up to it?

Are we going to drink without saying anything?

What's there to say?

Thank you, meteors.

I've really found Little Fairy.

Yeah.

Our wishes have all come true.

I've become a Grand Slam winner.

And you managed to defeat me.

Let's drink to

our ping-pong days.

For ping-pong.

What are you waiting for? Hurry up.

We have a match tonight.

He uses his backhand just to do a push.

You just have to attack his backhand.

Xu Tan has had an outstanding result.

He's the top scorer.

From now on, you'll be partners.

You attack, I defend.

Don't hold back.

Do you have anything to say to us at this moment?

I want to say something

to a very important person.

I'd like to thank him.

If it weren't for him,

I wouldn't have come this far.

After the research, the team has decided on

the participants for Rio Olympics.

Xu Tan.

Yu Ke Nan.

Song Min.

One more thing. From now until the Olympics,

the participants are not allowed

to sign up for any commercial events.

Focus on preparing for the Olympics.

-Got it? -Got it!

2015's WTTC doubles champions.

Ken Yasujima. Shuichi Minamino.

Both of them remain

the leading players of Japanese team in Rio Olympics.

Few days ago, I watched

some of their recent games.

They really improve too fast.

Here's the data analysis of

the doubles games between Xu Tan, Yu Ke Nan, and Song Min.

Take a look at it.

Go slower. Do it uniformly.

Judging from the data analysis

and in whatever aspect,

Xu Tan and Song Min are more likely to

win as a team.

The team has decided

to let both Xu Tan and Song Min

play men's doubles in the Rio Olympics.

Yu Ke Nan will play men's singles.

Mr Fu.

I agree with

the team's decision.

Song Min is my disciple, too.

But Yu Ke Nan

has always wanted to

form a pair with Xu Tan.

If I were to tell him this decision now,

I'm worried...

About what?

You're worried he wouldn't be himself, right?

No wonder they call you Mama Teng.

You worry too much.

Not only am I worried about his condition,

but also his mentality.

I'm afraid he'll feel discouraged

after suffering some setback.

You think

Yu Ke Nan is still that young boy from ten years ago.

He managed to play until now because he's full of personality.

Yu Ke Nan has been through a lot.

He's far more mature than you imagine.

You've got a point.

Fine, I'll go tell him now.

Here, sit down.

Stop being so anxious.

I'm afraid someone has done so.

Defend. Hurry up, put up a defense.

Add some blood.

I'm adding it.

Nice one.

I didn't know you're this good.

You've underestimated me, my fellow Taoist.

I heard you're playing it.

So I wanted to play with you.

Well, about doubles...

You and Song Min actually make a good team.

There's nothing wrong about it.

It's to win the gold medal.

Captain.

I understand it.

But you should tell Mr Fu

to leave me be.

Okay?

I'll book the gold medal of men's singles.

Okay?

I'm in charge of all kinds of booking. Just go ahead and book it.

Just book it.

I'm in charge of bookings of bookings.

I'm good at getting rid of all kinds of dissatisfaction.

There you go again.

-One more round. -Sure.

All right, Dad.

Let's just wait here.

I think it'll stop in a while.

Here,

drink some water.

Careful, it's a bit hot.

Drink slowly.

Are you okay?

Master.

Master.

I'm sorry about what I did back then.

That's too reckless of me.

I'm aware that

those kids in the team

liked me the least.

I once thought

nobody sacrificed for ping-pong as much as I did.

But in the end,

I was abandoned by it.

I got nothing in return but injuries.

But I realised later

ping-pong is connected to my heart

and my pulse.

When I see it bouncing on the table,

I can feel that I'm still alive.

One day,

we will leave ping-pong.

But ping-pong won't leave us.

The First Ping-Pong Training Team

As the national team captain,

I will do my responsibilities

and complete tasks assigned to me.

On behalf of all participants of Rio Olympics,

we promise

that we will play stylishly,

courageously, and excellently in the event.

Yes!

Yes!

Fellow friends.

The ping-pong finals of Rio Olympics

will begin in an hour.

China's ping-pong men's team just received

one gold and one silver medal in Rio Olympics.

And the men's team made up of

Xu Tan, Yu Ke Nan, and Song Min has made the finals.

They'll go against a very strong Japan team.

Judging from Xu Tan and Song Min's performance

as a team,

we could say that they're very stable.

And the Japan team has been performing very well this year.

They defeated the German team

and made the finals, 3-1.

Hurry up, it's going to start soon.

It's starting soon.

China Ping-Pong Team

What's up, bro?

Guess what I'm up to!

I don't know.

I'm on top of a mountain.

Top of a mountain?

I'm enjoying the scenery.

How's the scenery?

It's more or less like what you have there.

Do you still remember

the recording you sent to me?

Here's what you said.

You hoped we could be brave in chasing

everything that we wanted.

I do.

Has ping-pong given you everything you want?

I realise only now

that ping-pong is my everything.

What I want is not to become some world champion

or a Grand Slam winner.

I just want to

keep playing.

Keep

playing, then.

Let me tell you something.

And don't tell Lei.

I'm into ping-pong, too.

Really?

There's a newly opened ping-pong arena nearby our places.

Let's play together sometime.

Sure thing.

Go for it,

Xu Tan.

Go for it.

Men's Doubles Two hours before the match

Xu Tan & Yu Ke Nan to Play in Men's Doubles

Xiao Zhuang, come here.

Xu Tan & Yu Ke Nan to Play in Men's Doubles

-What happened, Sis Zhen? -Seriously?

What are you waiting for?

Publish the headline. Now!

Mr Hotan. Mr Hotan!

What?

It's not written here.

What do you mean by it's not written here?

I asked Saito to do it.

Saito?

What do we do? It's such a headache.

It's not written here at all.

Where's Saito?

Wait, can you ask Saito to come here?

If that's the case, it won't do.

Ask him to come here now.

We'll ask Saito to explain

why that happened.

Are you ready, champion?

Are you ready, champion?

Ping Pong Little Drama

Rio Olympics

Rio Olympics.

The slogan of 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games is

"A New World."

Here's the meaning of the slogan.

The Rio Olympic Games

will create a more wonderful world

to influence and change the next generation.

After 120 years of development,

it's the first time modern Olympic Games visited South America.

About 11,000 athletes from all around the world

gathered again under the Olympic flag.

And they would take part in

28 sports and 306 events.

Compared to the London Olympics from four years ago,

golf

and rugby sevens were added into it.

During the opening ceremony,

some members from the Chinese delegation,

which was made up of 711 people,

entered the stadium.

There were 416 athletes in the Chinese delegation.

It's the highest number of athletes

to participate the Olympics abroad

that the Chinese delegation ever had.

They would take part in

26 sports

and 210 events.

In 2016 Rio Olympics,

the national ping-pong team successfully took

men's singles,

women's singles,

as well as men and women's team. Four gold medals in total.

In the history of Chinese ping-pong,

following the 1996 Atlanta Olympics,

the 2000 Sydney Olympics,

the 2008 Beijing Olympics,

as well as 2012 London Olympics,

it's the fifth time the China ping-pong team

won all four gold medals

in an Olympic Games.
