Alone in the desert stands the most fearsome weapon ever created by man, the incredible gamma bomb.

In a concrete bunker, scientists await the G-bomb's first awesome test.

Dr. Bruce Banner, whose genius created the bomb, awaits the final moment as a fellow scientist angrily argues.

"It's too dangerous. You should have revealed the secret of the gamma ray to us."

Quiet, Igor. Hello, General Ross.

Why the delay? What are you waiting for? Are you testing that bomb or not?

The precautions must be taken. We're tempering with powerful forces.

Don't lecture me, Banner. Just speed it up.

With me in charge, instead of a melt sock like you, this test would be over by now.

Oh, Daddy, don't be so unfair. I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

Keep out of this, Betty. It's man talk.

Don't mind, Dad, Mr. Banner. The nickname Thunderbolt Ross takes some living up to.

Brr-brr. Thank you, Miss Ross. Now it's time for the final countdown. Excuse me.

Good Lord! What's that? It's a teenager heading into the test area. Igor, halt the countdown.

Good luck. If I don't stop it, it'll be the end of Bruce Banner.

You! Get out of there! Cool it, man. It's a free country, right?

Quick, you fool! Into the protective trench before the bomb goes off!

Hey, bomb? I didn't know! Meanwhile, with no instructions to the contrary from Igor,

a finger presses the fatal button. There. You're safe.

He is coming out of it now. Banner, it's a miracle that you're still alive.

How did I get here? I brought you. I'm Rick Jones. You saved my dumb life,

and you're the first one that ever cared what happened to me, Rick Jones orphan.

And so... And so, I returned a favor. It took so much gamma radiation that something's bound to

happen. But what? When are they going to spring us, old buddy? I'm beginning to feel strange,

different. This must be the end. What's with the radio, Doc? All I get is static.

Well, that's a Geiger counter to measure radiation, and it's going wild. What's happening?

Hey! You... You... You changed! Out of my way, incite! Where am I? Why am I locked in here?

I want out! Out! Out! Out! Hey, Sarge! Look! What's that? Man! Poor little man!

Have to get out of here! Doc, wait! Have to hide! Wait for me!

You saved my life, and now you need me! Wait! Silently, the monstrous being that was once Bruce

Banner crouches in the shadows. Fan out, man. We've got to find that... That... Hulk.

And thus, a name is given to the green-skinned Goliath. Meanwhile, the man at the base hospital

survey the ruins of a two-foot thick concrete wall. I'd say it was impossible, but there it is.

Impossible? Inhuman describes him better. But the incredible truth, that Bruce Banner is the Hulk,

goes unsuspected. The Hulk instinctively lumbers toward Dr. Banner's cottage. There must go home.

I wonder where he's headed. Still to lay for one so ponderous,

the Hulk approaches the cottage, followed by the faithful Rick.

Ah, that's it. Inside, Igor is searching for Banner's gamma-ray formula. A sudden noise makes

him turn. What? Who? Stop, clumsy one, and die. Yes, die, for no one must report this to the

security police. Unarmed and confused, the Hulk faces Bruce Banner's bitter enemy.

Can the Hulk withstand the deadly scream of bullets sure to come, or will he die?

You will shoot me no more. Whoa, whoa, stand back. So, this is what the little man

tried to destroy me with a gun.

Here, try again, little man. You, you aren't, you aren't human.

Stop, or you'll kill him. Laying amidst the debris, Rick discovers the gamma-ray formula.

This looks important. I'd better give it to the army. You wrote it as Bruce Banner.

Banner. Bruce Banner. Who's Bruce Banner? I know that face, but it is weak. Gentle, I see it.

The man in this picture, he was you before you changed. You can't hate him.

What? Me? Flap, puny, weakling? Never. And as for you? What? What do you mean?

Suddenly, and without warning, the Hulk is seized with a tremor.

And as the good of Bruce Banner wars with the evil in his clouded brain,

miraculously, he becomes Dr. Bruce Banner once more.

The veil has lifted. I can think again. It's over. The nightmare is over. Welcome back, Doc.

Open up in there. Open up. Where is he? Where's the Hulk? The Hulk? It must be you, Doc. Dr. Ben.

We trailed him here. I know the Hulk came in here. The Hulk? The Hulk. The Hulk. It's Igor.

He must have been looking for my gamma ray formula. Well, doctor, explanations are in order.

How do you account for that shoulder wound? Back off, buddy. What do you think he is?

Hulk? We were in the jeep that hit that Hulk, sir. Captain, he was nothing like Dr. Banner.

He was huge and powerful, like maybe an escaped gorilla. Oh, look more like a big old circus bear

to me. Well, you were seeing things, fellas. Luckily, Igor did not find that formula.

Bruce, that is Dr. Banner. I never expected to find... To find me involved in a search

for some sort of monster? Well, neither did I. Neither did I. Easy does it, Doc. Easy now.

You're ill. He just needs peace and quiet, lady. That's all. Very well, then I'll go.

But if I can help you... Miss Ross, Betty, I'll call you after I've had a chance to pull myself

together. Oh, it's Betty now, isn't it? I'll be involved in it. Please do call, Bruce.

I suspect you're in great trouble, and I want to help. Now, Doc, tell me. How did it feel?

Be in the Hulk, I mean. Don't, Rick, don't. Not now. Say, what's wrong? It's all over, isn't it?

Over? No, no, no, Rick, it isn't over. It's just the beginning. How do I know that I won't become

a monstrous Hulk once more, anywhere, at any time? Yet I can only sit here waiting,

wondering when I may again change into that brutal, bestial, subhuman creature.

And what of Igor, brooding darkly in his cell? He's American fools. Even in a cell, I am dangerous.

Well, by means of my sub-miniature shortwave sending set, I shall transmit the secret,

far across the sea, through the Gorgon. He will know what to do. A code message from Igor arrives,

and is relayed to a foreign officer. He realizes its importance, and afraid to face the awful

Gorgon himself, assigns the task to a subordinate, who, equally fearful, passes it on to yet another

underling. And so, in typically courageous fashion, the message has gone down the line

to the last unfortunate who has no one left to hand it to. So off he goes, trembling all the way.

Who stands outside my door? Speak, or face the Gorgon's wrath.

Rather than face the most terrifying, most feared man in all of Asia, the courier slips the papers

under his door.

They dare not face me, and with good reason. Unbelievable.

There exists in America a creature called the Hulk, whose power almost matches mine.

Well, we shall see. We shall see.

What will happen when these two menaces clash? What mysterious power

does Gorgon possess that he dares to face the incredible Hulk?

Attention! This is the cork, and prepare a rocket-firing sub for the muted departure.

A few hours later, the giant ship surfaces.

What's that? Our radar is tracking an unidentified object heading this way.

Unleash our hunter missiles!

But the capsule containing the dreaded Gorgon escapes.

Now to find the accursed Hulk, and destroy him.

While in America, it's hard to believe, Doc, that you, the world's most famous missile expert,

because you were exposed to your own gamma rays, might change again at any time.

Doc! Your hands! It's happening! You're becoming the Hulk again!

Look out! Keep your hands on the wheel!

Wheel? What wheel? Who cares about a wheel?

Arising from the wreckage.

My hand.

What am I doing here? Where's Betty? Must see Betty.

No! Wait! You can't let Miss Ross see you like this! Stop!

At last, the one called the Hulk.

Meanwhile, close by at General Ross's house...

I just can't get Bruce out of my mind.

Honey, you just need a little fresh air. You're too imaginative.

Dad was right. I'll just say to myself, there is no Hulk.

Where is our Hulk?

What? Oh!

Frayed, sir.

Hulk! Let go of her!

Shut up! Nobody tells the Hulk what to do!

You're wrong, monster. Turn around and face me, the terrifying Hulk-powerful Gorgon.

Hulk fears no Gorgon.

Catch! But this is a different kind of gun.

This weapon shoots a will-destroying pellet of my own design.

I swore to you like a free... Wrong again. For the instant this pellet strikes you,

you will become my slave.

And now you...

It is done. Now both of you rise and follow me.

How easy it is to conquer any I'm suspecting for.

Recovering from her experience, Betty is comforted by her dad.

It was horrible. I saw the Hulk. But where is he now?

I'll find him, my child. I swear.

Racing toward the coast in a stolen jeep,

the Gorgon brings its captives closer and closer to their doom.

In the eerie hours before dawn, they paddle to his waiting submarine.

Reaching the edge of space, they level off to glide behind the steel curtain at supersonic speeds.

The passive Hulk sits like a dolt inside the cabin suddenly.

And he becomes once more Dr. Bruce Banner, world-renowned scientist.

After landing, the Gorgon receives a startling surprise.

The Hulk. What happened to the Hulk?

What's this Joker talking about, Doc?

Doc? Doc? Wait. Aha. I know you. Dr. Bruce Banner, a very most atonic scientist.

That's it. You and the Hulk are one and the same.

It's the most horrible thing in the world to be a freak.

Doc, he's crying.

I'd give anything to be normal again, anything.

Doc, he's actually begging you to help him.

I know, Rick. Let me think.

Radiation might help if we could do it now, but we need the proper equipment.

I have it. Follow me.

And so where once a Gorgon lay, a man arises.

I despise you and all you stand for.

An American cured me, and I renounce you.

The prisoners have escaped in the Gorgon's rocket.

Enter, gentlemen.

I am he who you once called the Gorgon.

And knowing that I have saved America's most brilliant scientist,

I am prepared to pay the price with you as a man.

Traveling at supersonic speeds, Banner's rocket barely escaped the atomic blast.

Dismayed by the news received on his sub-miniature radio in America,

Igor awaits the fate of all spies while aboard the rocket.

We're safe now, Dr. Banner.

You are, Rick, but will I ever be safe from the Hulk?
