It's one of the most popular
parts in the park,

as you can see.

People come here
to feed the turtles--

campers, tourists,
people from all over, really.

We sell the turtle food
for 50 cents a cup.

we have a new ranger.

What kind of turtles
are these?

Those are red-eared sliders.

They're fairly common.

You know, I had a turtle once.

Really?

Yeah, well, actually it
was my neighbor's turtle.

I found him under
a rock after he got lost.

He was there for like a month.

That was a tortoise, pal.

If it was on land,
it probably was a tortoise.

Turtles are in water.

Yep, he's new, all right.

And dumber than
a bag of rocks.

is gonna be filling up
the food dispensers.

We wanna make sure
there's lots of turtle food.

This is Houdini, and he is an

We don't really know.

He was donated by a family who
can't take care of him anymore.

We fed him yesterday,

and it takes two weeks
for it to fully digest,

and we don't wanna
give him a belly ache, do we?

fill the dispenser.

Hey, there you are!

Come on over here. I wanna show
you some things.

Some big cages.

Yeah.

This is where we keep
our birds of prey.

Most of them are donated.

We need to clean these
cages every day,

so we need
a lot of help.

That's where you
come in.

You're gonna take a bucket.

We got hot water
right over there.

There's a brush in there.

Um, also, you're gonna wanna
use vinegar.

There's a lot of
bacteria in bird poop,

especially the old,
hardened feces.

And trust me, you don't
wanna mess around with that.

Here's a scraper
for the poop towers.

Uh, believe me, you're
gonna be cleaning up

all kinds of different
stages of poop.

Gloves, you're gonna
need gloves as well.

You're also gonna need
some rubber boots to put on

because we don't want you
tracking feces in and out.

But most importantly, I want you
to wear these goggles.

You don't
want to get bird poop

mixed with vinegar
getting in your eyes.

I've had it happen,
and trust me, it isn't pleasant.

After you're done
cleaning out the cages,

you'll need to clean up
all the old newspaper,

put it in a plastic bag,

and throw it in the trash
right over there.

Don't forget to change
their water.

Birds like to spit up
regurgitated birdseed

and put it right in the water,

and then, you guessed it,
poop in it.

They poop in their water?

All the time.

After you're done
cleaning the cages,

don't forget to wash your hands.

Don't just use water,
but use hand sanitizer.

-No problem.

'cause after this, we're gonna
move on to the reptile cages,

and reptiles have salmonella.

a transformer

and knocked herself

is specifically designed
for birds of prey

like owls and hawks.

Um, she's got
super sharp talons,

so when they extend their legs
when they see their prey,

they squeeze really tight,

sometimes up to 200 pounds
of pressure.
