Nobody knows how hard it is to be a coach than me.

I was on the losing end, and it's tough.

Every time one of your teammates takes a fall, you feel that.

It's not easy, so I know exactly where these guys are.

Well, we definitely saw these coaches raise the level of artwork right off the start, got

these artists going.

And after that, we ended up with one from each team.

in the finale.

How did that feel?

Man, you know, I have the ultimate respect for Steve.

I fought hard.

I did what I had to do.

I have better application than both of these dudes, and I deserve to be here.

You know, I had to face all my insecurities on the spot.

I won season seven with, you know, off my gut instinct.

I did the same thing this season.

That's why Juan sitting over there representing the Wolfpack.

Honestly, I didn't at first.

But in reality, Anthony helped me immensely.

He helped me to become a better tattooer.

I took a lot of heat this season.

Any time I was being harsh, it just stemmed from my passion.

I'm super passionate about tattooing.

I'm super passionate about anything art.

And I think some of my harshness is what got Josh Payne to that stage and is what made me

win last year.

You were one of the most hated men on the panel.

You were the target.

How did that feel?

Yeah, I came in as day one super confident.

I knew what I wanted.

That was the title of Ink Master.

And I did what I could.

I ruffled some feathers.

I had a little bit of fun in there.

And the whole time, you know, a lot of people mistook my confidence for cockiness.

But at the end of the day, you know, love me or hate me, I'm here to be the next Ink Master.

Well, Josh, let's hope you didn't make too many enemies, because there is one other thing

that all of you do need to know.

There always is, isn't there?

Yeah.

The judges are not the only ones with the power tonight.

Now, over the last several months in their hometowns, the coaches and the finalists each had

to tattoo their master canvas.

The eagle portrays my team, and we have the golden skull.

We're both going at team DJ, which is a snake.

And that's pretty much the way it was the whole season.

At the end of it, we're going to win it all.

I'm the OG of Ink Master.

I was underestimated all season long.

I proved that I'm a fighter.

The demon sucks the souls out of people, eats them, wanted to do me.

Hey, king of horror's got to do it.

He's got to do it, man.

I mean, this thing's going to be sick.

So this is kind of what I was thinking.

It's like a religious Tibetan mask.

I don't get to do many heads, but I'm always down for a challenge.

How far down do the neck is this going to go?

How far down do you want to do that?

I want my whole neck covered.

One thing I'm known for is my speed.

So if I can get something bigger than the other two coaches, I'm down.

Nobody's going this big, dude.

I was the most inexperienced artist to win the title of Ink Master.

Now I have to prove that wasn't a fluke.

What I'm envisioning is a Polynesian approach.

But also, I'm big on portraiture.

So on one side, I'd like to apply a portrait of a Maori woman.

On the other side, a man.

This is blowing my mind.

I'm taking huge risks with this design.

It's unique.

It's powerful.

It's completely unexpected.

And that right there is what's going to get me the win.

We got to move, and we got to boogie, because this thing is huge.

In true teft fashion, you got to sneak a little bit of evil in there.

And I really like it, man.

A lot of detail.

The head of the snake looks really tough.

You've got the horns on it.

You've got a really cool pattern underneath the color.

A lot of really fine details, smooth color blending.

Very legible as to what direction the snake is going in and out behind the hand.

One thing I love about your tattooing, no matter what style you're hitting, you still are

able to put your stamp on it.

And I think that's the mark with your artist, man.

Really good.

This thing is beautiful.

I can read it from here.

I know what's going on.

And I really love the background of that moon.

You got that negative space right there, so you can really read the head of the snake.

Your tattoo is clean.

It's solid.

I think it shows a little bit of jitters.

But I think everybody tonight does.

You know, this is a tough arena and a tough place to sit and really pull these off.

But that tattoo is really legible.

Design-wise, I think this thing is pretty flawless, man.

A lot of detail, really smooth, long, clean, flowing lines.

And your color fades from all the way down the middle of the snake are perfect everywhere

you see it.

Little tiny bits of open skin in here.

Really let this thing breathe a little bit.

A mile away, man, this thing stands strong.

But what I got to say, my favorite part about this tattoo, of all three, this fits the shape

of this woman's leg perfectly.

I mean, this thing is placed with the contours of the body and really looks naturally, beautifully

there.

Locked in their own fight for survival, the finalists have battled it out all season long

to make it to this point.

And time has come to see their 24-hour battle royale master canvas tattoos.

Up first.

From Team Steve, Roly, come on over.

All right, buddy, let's see your tattoo.

Ollie?

Technically, this thing is solid and smooth.

Outline is crisp and clean.

All the color saturation is in and packed in really, really solid.

You have some great color blends.

You have also great use of open skin.

Where I have a hard time with the tattoo is going to be the illustration of the tattoo.

The whole thing about a battle royale is showing the full bodies.

Right.

This is a battle.

They are in battle.

Each one holds its own presence and its own ground.

So to just do heads, it makes it very tough.

I mean, you guys said we could do any style.

And that's what I did.

I wanted to make sure that from far away you can read the tattoo.

From here, I see that you've got a huge, badass chess piece on this guy.

But I don't know it's a battle royale from here.

I did a bold tattoo.

It's technically perfect.

And you know I'm happy with it.

You put your own stamp on it.

This is one tough tattoo, man.

All right, from Team Anthony, Juan, come on up.

Check it out.

I like that you can see a lot of the anatomical features of these creatures separately.

My main goal here was to create a very meaningful piece.

You know, like me, Josh, and Roly, we're in an epic battle royale, just like the animals.

Yeah.

But at the same time, we're brothers.

So you see, like, the tails entangling themselves, meaning that, you know?

We're all brothers, but we're all fighting.

I like the way that you bring the wing over the top that almost encases the snake.

For me, the negative to the tattoo is going to be the power or the relationship between the

size of the head of the dragon and the dragon's power versus the size of the eagle.

I just wish that the eagle's head wasn't the same size as the dragon's head.

That throws the dynamic for me and that strength off a little bit.

For me, I wish that eagle was swooping down, and the dragon was swooping up, and you had more

of an entanglement.

But where you have the dark blacks coming out and the color just blasting through that and

getting really bright, you show a lot of dimension.

You show a lot of flow.

Technically, this tattoo is really smooth, really soft.

It's got a nice, blended-in, subtle feel.

It looks like a painting.

This thing is technically badass.

Definitely a Juan Sagado tattoo, man.

And finally, from Team DJ, Josh, come on over here, man.

And reveal.

You got a lot of coverage here.

Certainly the biggest piece that we've seen tonight.

Yeah, I wanted to come out and just deliver something huge, epic, grand.

This whole entire ride with everybody here has been that big.

Trying to capture these animals and the whole body, the whole fight, there was no way I was

keeping it on a chest.

So I said, let's go big and let's go for it.

The first downside of this for me is the size of the dragon versus the size of his claws.

Small claws for a huge dragon.

Again, keeping in mind the relationship of each piece in within itself and against its opponent

is what makes these battle royales flow.

As far as your tattooing goes,

I think this thing has some really amazing features to it.

I love the eagle.

I love the snake.

You know, these have a really strong look, and your color palette is strong.

It gets a little hard to read in the sternum.

That eagle's head could be a little bit lighter so that it really stands out.

What I do like is that

You did go in and leave a lot of skin breaks.

You did leave a lot of open skin.

You did show that ability to go from ink to skin really smoothly.

It is super detailed.

It is packed to the gills.

It is super clean, super smooth, bulletproof, solid.

Juan's snake, Juan's dragon, Juan's eagle, they're all jacked anatomically.

Juan's tattoo is readable and has every single piece of the body.

Look at those feet.

It looks like one, two, three eagle feet.

At least you can see the feet, but Juan's tattoo is legible.

Josh did it super big, and it's still not as readable as Juan.

Follow the snake and tell me you can see that, Matt.

Seriously?

Absolutely.

Seriously.

OK, go ahead.

Go ahead.

Honestly, like, he hit so many of the benchmarks.

Hands down, rollies, line work, and color.

It's solid.

About a way out is every single piece.

I do think that it's lacking, you know, some body parts.

It's a snake versus a chicken versus a Muppet.

That's what I see when I look at this tattoo.

Man, do we get that intense when we talk about tattoos?

Probably about the same.

Well, while they continue to hash it out, it's the moment that I personally have been waiting

for.

In the most brutal test this competition has ever seen, the coaches also had to tattoo 24

-hour head tattoos.

And based on these tattoos alone, the judges will put the second coach into the top two.

All right, Steve, you're up first.

All right, let's see that head tat.

All right.

Tell us about your tattoo, man.

Shape of the head.

I just wanted something to float a lot.

I wanted this thing readable from 10 feet away.

And every way you look at it, I wanted you to see something different.

It's really dynamic.

It really fits the shape of the head.

You got a lot of detail in there.

You always are able to show off with texture.

You're able to show off with the depth of shading that you get in your tattoos.

One of my favorite parts is the bottom with the little demon face that you have down there.

That rich black really pumps out off the light grays.

There's no denying this is a badass tattoo.

Great job.

Anthony, you're up next.

Anthony, what was the thought process behind this tattoo?

Balance, intention, and unity.

You know, I'm not a Polynesian tattooer by any means.

But I wanted to pay respects to the culture and to the craft how tattooing started.

With the king's blessing of Polynesia, this is our journey.

The design, the layout, the detail is over the top.

The style of tattooing that you do on here

is very dark, and it doesn't have a lot of loose skin breaks that we always look for.

And with that being said, it plays so strong and so perfect still.

Looking at the tools and the symmetry, the way the tattooing tools are lined up with those

circles that you have over the top are beautiful.

The negative space that goes perfectly echoes one side of the ear to the other and brings

it up to cast the shapes for the portraits to sit in are beautiful.

And the portrait quality on these on the side of a head.

are top notch.

I mean, that's winning right there, man.

You know what I mean?

And finally, DJ, you are up.

DJ, clearly you didn't go small.

Nope.

I wanted it to look from the top.

If he puts his head straight down, look at the crowd.

He's got a mask on the top of his head that slides up.

The tassels ride the side.

And I also wanted pieces that went together, but they are their own pieces.

from top to back.

When he's walking backwards, people think that's a skeleton with a third eye with his brain

cut out.

Every way you look at this guy's head, there's something going on that's interesting and intriguing.

You look at the top of this guy's head, there's no doubt that thing is super tight, that's

super clean.

To me, the top of the head is really, really, really strong.

When we get down and we get to the skull, the way that you have those negative pieces that

come out of the eyes and come onto the side of the head.

What gets me on this one is just the halos that you have on the lines up on the top of the

flower on both sides of the shoulder.

There is no denying the blowouts in the flower.

You've put some shading.

This right here?

You put some shading to hide it, but you can see them.

It's shaded everywhere.

Yeah.

I think there's parts in every tattoo that gets away from everybody in these.

It's a head.

It's tricky.

It's 24 hours.

Going this big, it's always a risk.

What I like the most about this thing is the layout and the illustration and the way each

piece flows into the next piece and keeps on continuing until it covers every single area

that you can get on this.

Amazing detail, amazing color work.

This thing is bad to the bone.

One thing is undeniable, the three of you have proved exactly why you earned the title of

What I do like about Steve's tattoo is the snake head.

I feel like he gave it a very cool, stylized look.

If you look at DJ's tattoo with the yellow, it is so much cleaner.

And the yellow in this is just so muddy and so dark.

I feel like DJ did the biggest tattoo, the boldest tattoo, the most readable tattoo.

And every part of that is fantastic.

DJ's tattoo doesn't interact with the background whatsoever.

Anthony's tattoo is amazing.

It goes, interacts with that dagger.

He drew that thing with so much precision and so much thought behind it compared to DJ.

There's wobbles all over the place in there.

Those leaves are crazy, dude.

They're leaves.

Linework in this competition, you think those leaves are great?

And I think Josh's eagle head in the sternum is very camouflaged.

For me, as big as Josh went, it lends it to be a lot more breathable.

I think Juan's positioning of the eagle is a little bit off, but technically Juan's tattoo

is so smooth and soft.

I think that Josh has more saturation.

It's two different styles of tattooing, so it's hard to really.

This really is a tight race.

How do you make that choice?

I see a lot of versatility in Anthony's tattoo.

To be able to meld together all of the styles that Anthony melded together.

Those beautiful portraits, too, man.

If we're looking at the leg tattoos, though, DJ really runs away with it on that one.

He knew what he was going to do.

He laid it out.

It fit the body.

Now does Anthony win the head battle, and we have to figure how that weighs in and out?

And I think we've got to figure on, unfortunately, the blowout.

I love the layout of DJ's tattoo, though, on the head.

All the different elements that blend in together.

Massive amount of work that DJ put out is over the top.

In real life, these tattoos are perfect.
