We are moving directly into the next elimination tattoo.

Today, we're testing finesse.

Finesse?

Finesse is something you achieve only with experience and practice.

It's precision.

It's smoothness.

It's all the abilities you have to make the tattoo perfect quality.

To earn the title of Ink Master, it's not enough just master the basics.

No one knows this better than your coaches.

Every time the coaches tattoo, they prove exactly why they are in a league of their own.

Now it's your turn to prove that you have the skills to compete at their elite level.

For this elimination tattoo, you must step up your game and match your coach.

Coaches, you must each create a line drawing that you and the artist will tattoo on

separate canvases at the same time, giving a true head-to-head comparison.

Trying to match someone as talented as DJ is going to be really, really difficult.

I have to take everything that I've learned from this competition and everything I've learned

from DJ and put it into whatever tattoo is going to be and do it up to the level at which

he can compete.

This is a true head-to-head comparison.

You will only have the line drawing that your coach gives you to go from.

When it's go time, you have the stencil, you put it on, your design is done, and you are ready

I'm adding a few extra lines in the hair.

I really hope that this doesn't count as a knock against me, but I just feel it needs a little

bit more fullness to it.

And let's start with Deanna.

How was it for you getting a line drawing from your coach?

It was very intimidating.

I haven't done a Hanya mask or Japanese stuff.

So you're not experiencing the Japanese?

Not at all.

A Hanya mask is a piece of wood that's carved out.

One of the areas I think that you misinterpret here is you get

more of a human area here where the cheekbones attach to the nose.

That's the part where the translation gets lost.

There are some areas of your red where it's not as smooth and not as well blended as others.

Really strong and hard and bold.

Application on all of the red of this tattoo would have made this thing have a lot more punch.

This tattoo is really punched in, really deliberate.

You definitely kept to the same density of color and shading throughout the entire tattoo,

which gives it

dark toned base.

I like what you did with the bold black lines.

I like the little skin breaks that you left along these jaw bones, and they appear to be meticulously

placed.

This is about as solid as you can get.

Let's take a look at the master's tattoo.

DJ.

This design actually has a lot of finesse to it.

It's really smooth.

It's really flowing.

It's really well laid out.

I like the way that you etched out your pieces.

That really surfed the concept of a wooden mask.

The ropes on this are really nice.

The flowers set in really nice.

Overall, it's a really clean sticker tattoo.

Oh, yeah.

Team Anthony, you are up.

Jason.

I love the solid black on the edge fading in to the lighter on the inside.

It gives it a really bold, simplistic look.

And how this fits on this body and the size that you chose to do is great.

But the bottom edge of the muzzle, you come off with that dark tone, and then you go right

into the same tone for the mouth.

So it's camouflaging that.

You need a nice, soft skin break.

Below it, you can do a lot less and make it look good.

One.

I love the red, yellow, and black.

I think you chose the right yellow to really punch this in.

And the heavy, solid, well-saturated black all throughout this tattoo is really nice.

What I like about this tattoo is the skin breaks.

That's just the classic approach on how to let a tattoo breathe.

I like everything in this tattoo but the really black teeth.

That's not teeth.

It's just gums.

The inside teeth are what's throwing me.

Looks like teeth.

Let's take a look at Anthony's tattoo.

Your color blending is the best example of finesse.

that we see today, how smooth and soft and buttery all this stuff is.

This is a technical application a lot of people have problems pulling off.

You do it really, really well.

And your design colored the way that you wanted to do it.

There's no question as to what's going on with this teeth gum issue.

It's all laid out there for you, beautifully detailed.

It's killer, dude.

Rolly.

You had a lot of questions to answer in this tattoo.

And I would say most of them you did pretty well with.

You have beautiful details in the eyes.

The smooth skin shading you have in the girl, I really like it.

But the demon itself, there's a couple of areas where the shading gets away from you, like

from the bridge of the nose, just really flat.

I wanted to give it a different texture.

I never tattooed a demon before.

Having to pull these textures and these looks with no reference, it's obvious that Steve's

tattoo is the toughest ask for the team.

Jeremy.

The woman's face is beautiful.

Where you lose me is in the demon.

The demon, to me, is really tonal.

It has kind of a messy feel to it.

And there's some contrast issues.

In the stuff that comes off the cheek, which would be a horn or whatever, that's a huge missed

opportunity for some texture.

But I like the additions that you made, creating this forked tongue down the middle and the

drips that drip down over the skull.

Being creative and adding to something is a great move.

Let's take a look at the master's tattoo.

Steve.

You get so many different tones of dark, the really deep inset blackness in the eyes, and

then those little dark pits of even darker, richer black.

This thing really has a lot of depth to it.

This has a ton of texture.

You can feel what's going on in here if you run your finger over it.

Giving this to your team made them step up.

It was a true test.

It is now time to determine who matched the master.

Team DJ, let's look at Deanna versus DJ.

First thing we notice from out the bat is there's a lot more finesse in DJ's side.

The black that goes around DJ's eye in comparison to your outline sets apart that look of

the sunken in wood feel, as well as DJ's carved out part that look of the sunken in wood feel,

as well as DJ's carved out sections in the lower portions of the inner cheekbones.

Deanna does a good standalone tattoo, but when you compare it to DJ's, I think she does fall

short.

I would agree with that.

DJ takes this one.

OK, let's look at Josh versus DJ.

These guys mirror each other in a lot of ways.

And the technical application on both of these tattoos really looks similar.

I love both takes of this drawing.

And if I had to choose one, it would be difficult to make a choice, which to me reads as a

match.

Josh is really just stamped in there perfectly.

Let's look at Jason versus Anthony.

Little details of the line drawing that get interpreted in such subtle ways really make a

strong difference to me.

Like the front fangs on Anthony's, they have that realistic jarred tooth look.

And then Jason just had this smooth two lines.

If you go detail for detail, amulet to amulet, Anthony kills it.

Anthony kills it.

Muzzle to muzzle, Anthony kills it.

You go mouth to mouth, Anthony kills it.

Jason, overall, falls short.

Yeah, I think Anthony definitely takes this one.

Jason, you did not match it.

I got my whole right leg, whole right arm, and my back.

Normally, when you do a tattoo, you get to draw it on paper, and you get to work out all the

kinks.

And you can get it sized exactly right.

And then you make a stencil and put it on the body.

That you can get done drawing that you know you can smoke.

Here, you have to do all that working out straight under the skin.

You pretty much get a one-shot go at it.

If an artist has never free-handed a tattoo before, there's definitely a big learning curve.

I was thinking about free-handing an owl on there.

I want to up my game so it's making it harder for these guys to catch up.

I've been waiting this whole competition to do something anywhere near my style.

And finally, in this challenge, I get to do that.

If anything is off, a face can look real weird real fast.

Yeah, I've only been tattooing for six years, so I never would have thought like this would

have been like my career, you know what I'm saying?

I'm not super experienced like some of the other tattooers.

There's a lot of things that I've never done before.

This is another first for me.

I've never freehand drawn a shark.

I've got to make sure that my confidence carries me.

Deanna, I really like this tattoo from you.

It's really delicate.

It's really feminine.

There's a touch of sexy to it.

I also think it's really balanced.

I like the fact that you're able to draw this on to the skin with a pen.

Overall, the tattoo has a really smooth look to it.

I wish that you did have some different textures instead of just stippled out liner shade

look that it has to it.

I think it could have been a great tattoo.

One of the things that I like about today is that we're seeing your own style for the first

time, and I really like this style.

You did a great job making this thing dynamic on the skin, drawing it in the position that

you drew it.

It looks fierce because it's looking at you, but it could be going after prey.

It has a messy, perfect harmony.

This is definitely the best overall tattoo that you've put out here.

Next up is Roli.

Technically, man, I think this thing is really smooth.

But a couple things kind of stand out strange to me.

Coming off the bottom of its chin area, which it's kind of weird to think that sharks have

this, like, definitive chin.

But you have this center line that goes down the belly.

Then as it comes down to the bottom, it goes off to the side of the tail instead of going

down to the center of the tail.

Also the placement of the fins.

They're too far down from the head for this thing to navigate properly.

Take your time.

Be sure that what you're doing is right.

How did you feel about getting this challenge today?

I'm very limited to what I could really draw, like, on the spot.

It usually takes me a day or two to draw something perfect.

So this is something I could draw that was easier for me to actually pull off a tattoo that's

finished.

There's a lot of things going on here.

of making it a long, slender face, it's really short and really wide.

But what's throwing me here is the way you choose to color this thing.

You put the yellow as the light source, but the light source is everywhere, but then the front

of the face isn't yellow.

This is a low rider panel paint job.

You got red stripes and red panels and yellow stripes and yellow panels.

I don't really like the color placements.

Just the fact.

You don't count the bottom teeth in between the canines.

That's just mind-blowing to me, to have seven teeth.

But they're all straight?

Yeah.

Straight to the garbage.

That's where those go.

I gave him credit for going for it.

You could play safety, but he really swung for it and obviously missed a little bit here.

But he's got a fight in him, you know?

People don't think he's fighting because he's quiet and he keeps to himself, but the dude's

fighting.

All right, guys, it is time to determine who's going home.

The biggest thing that we're looking for today in this finesse challenge is the freehand ability

to just draw something on the skin and have it be appealing.

Are we agreed that Jason and Deanna are safe?

I am.

You good with that?

I'm good with that.

I think Rolly's was pulled off more finesse than Deanna's.

Rolly's shark can't swim.

If the animal can run, if it can swim, if it can slither, OK, it's real.

Shark, not swimming.

That's that.

It's honest, fair judging across the board.

All right, Jason and Deanna, you guys are safe from elimination.

I'm seeing the problems that you guys have with Jeremy's tattoo.

But also, as a canvas, if I got a shark that was all out of whack, I'd be a little bummed

out about it.

Roli's black and gray.

Roli's line work.

I think, technically, Roli is stronger.

But for me, if we go to Jeremy's, the problems I have are light source, construction, composition.

It's a complete miss for that Jeremy.

My vote's for Jeremy.

The judges have decided, Jeremy, you do not have what it takes.

Man, I think this is a tough competition.

No matter how you look at it, you've made it a long way in this thing.

It's been a great learning experience, and I'm really glad that I had the opportunity to come

here, man.

I've made it a lot farther than I thought I would.

But I've learned from my mistakes, and every tattoo I do from here on out should be flawless.
