Ping Pong

This show is the selected drama by NRTA

in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the PRC,

and was funded under the 2019 Art Creation of Hubei.

Episode 24

This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance is purely coincidental.

All the best!

I'm sorry.

You are not the one playing. Why are you so nervous?

Your salary will be deducted if you disturb the game.

They are doing this now.

What's the meaning of this?

This means that they are going to totally transform themselves.

Good shot.

Target their right side.

Got it.

They really hit it to the right side.

Left side.

Left side.

That side?

They just hit it to the left side.

Referee. This...

I'm fine now.

What's their problem?

Both of them must be desperate.

They even devised this kind of tactics.

There.

He's weaker.

Let's attack him.

These two are unpredictable.

They said left but they hit the ball to the right.

Mr. Teng,

What kind of tactics are your disciples using?

Where did they learn them from?

Mr. Fu.

Looks like these children

are really using their brains now.

In ping-pong, you don't just compete with your skills.

Sometimes, it'll be a psychological play.

First, they hit the ball just like they said.

Then, they did the opposite during the third time.

Interesting.

Your trick is quite effective.

But it's really despicable.

Or else, how can we win?

They are the world champions in doubles.

They are formidable opponents.

But this is just the first round.

It'll be hard for us to win in the next round.

Don't think too much.

Let's just do our best.

Xia Ke, use the body-hit on Xu Tan.

All the best!

Great.

Great.

Look.

In the end, skills are still the key to winning.

Using tricks

can only take you so far.

The thing is, Xu Tan only knows how to defend now

and Yu Ke Nan only knows how to attack.

If Xia Ke keeps on doing a body-hit on Xu Tan,

Yu Ke Nan will have no chance to attack.

They still can't solve this weakness of theirs?

It's okay. All the best.

All the best.

After all, their opponents are world champions.

Don't let it affect you.

Looks like they still haven't

get rid of this weakness of theirs.

The game will end soon.

No one will go easy on you this time.

Just play without any worries.

Did you hear that just now?

Xu Tan just shouted.

He shouted it out.

Both of them are really...

Offensive-defensive transition.

Xu Tan has turned into Yu Ke Nan

and Yu Ke Nan has turned into Xu Tan.

Good shot!

I've seen how you played today.

To be honest,

the result of this game

is something within my expectation.

But,

with the scores that they had achieved,

I believe that

all the coaches

and the members here

can recognise their talent.

Our national team

has always had this good passing the torch practice.

Since they are lacking in skills,

from now onwards,

as their seniors,

you should guide them well to help them improve.

Are you too stunned to respond?

What Mr. Fu meant is,

both of you are now in the first team.

Xu Tan!

What are you doing?

I want to go in and check

if all the candidates have left.

We've already cleared the exam halls. It's empty now.

My daughter is sitting for the college entrance exam this year.

But she's not at home yet.

So, I'm here to look for her.

Maybe she's still inside.

You are a parent?

I just checked the whole place.

There's no one inside.

Really?

Leave now.

Go back.

Cai Wei.

Put me down!

No.

I'm not going to put you down now

and in the future.

Put me down.

Cai Wei.

For the past few days,

I've been thinking about how to console you.

But after thinking about it,

I've decided that I should win this game

and enter the first team

before I have the rights to talk to you.

I was

being too harsh that day.

I'm sorry.

Can you give me another chance?

Let's go.

Mr. Fu.

Mr. Fu.

Well...

I can understand that

Fu Jing Chun is not listed for the World Ping-pong Tournament.

But why isn't he listed

for the World Cup this year?

Based on qualifications,

Fu Jing Chun is indeed

equally matched compared to

the other members in the list.

But he's still new in the first team.

He's still very young and

lacking in experience.

After multiple discussions,

the team has decided that for now,

it's better if he can participate in more competitions

to gain experience.

As for the three major tournaments,

you have to patient with that.

Since he's qualified,

the team should consider him.

You were once a player too.

When we decide whether or not

a player can participate in a major tournament,

we have to consider all aspects.

We don't only look at the results and skills.

You know that better than everyone.

I think that Fu Jing Chun

is qualified in every aspect.

Since I became his coach in the second team,

I knew that this young man is the same as Kang Ning and the others.

He's a champion.

It has been so many years.

I had devised all the plans for him in

every stage with the World Cup in mind.

This is his goal too.

I just want to give him a chance to start earlier.

I want to let him join more competitions and

get more medals while he's still young.

That's the glory of an athlete, right?

You want to make the best use of this youth

to let him gain experience in the three major tournaments.

I can understand that.

But we need to consider the matter as a whole.

With Fu Jing Chun's results now,

even if he's in the list,

we can't be sure that

he'll earn a medal in the competition.

I know that.

But you know how diligent he is in his training

and how stable his performance is.

I just think that

we should give him a chance.

I'm sure that he will be successful.

Enough.

Stop worrying about this.

Let me

think about it again.

Okay?

Mr. Fu.

Mr. Fu.

Mr. Zheng, I...

I don't want to hear it.

If you think I'm not good enough,

you can leave me.

Find another coach.

I want to become a champion together with you.

What did you say? I couldn't hear you.

I want to become a champion.

What kind of champion?

A world champion.

That's not enough!

Now, your only goal is to become the Olympics champion.

The world will only

know you and remember you when you become

the Olympics champion.

Yes, coach!

I'll work harder to become the Olympics champion!

Thank you.

Thank you.

Hello, mister.

This the flower bouquet that you've ordered.

Thank you.

I had asked others before I ordered the flowers.

They told me that

eight roses represent an apology.

I had never bought flowers before.

So, I don't know what I should say

when I give out the flower bouquet.

Anyway, just take it.

Okay.

Thank you.

I'll eat now.

Ke Nan.

How do you feel now that you are in the first team?

To be honest, there's only one word to describe it.

Amazing.

But things are still shaky with my girlfriend now.

So, I don't dare to think about other things now.

Try this meat too.

It's tasty.

Here.

Try it.

Cai Wei.

That day,

I was in a bad mood.

So, I wasn't thinking straight.

You were right.

For us,

it's only normal that our results will fluctuate.

So, don't think too much.

Let bygones be bygones.

Let's work hard together, okay?

Ke Nan.

I have something to tell you.

Go back.

I'll go out and find her again.

Father.

Where did you go?

Wait.

You went out to drink?

Father.

You should leave now.

You have a roll call later.

Girl.

Is there something in your mind

that you can't talk to me about?

You want to go abroad,

right?

Why are you always acting on your own?

What's so good about going abroad?

Can't you just play here?

Can't you step in my shoes for a little while?

I can't go back

to my top form like two to three years ago.

Nothing is absolute.

You came from the provincial team

and fought your way up to the first team.

Being replaced by newbies

is just a common thing.

But you can still stay.

I can stay?

Even if I stay,

I'll have less and less chance

to participate in major tournaments.

I can only watch you

become better and better.

And I'll watch while the new members surpass me one after another.

What should I do when the time comes?

If you leave,

what about me?

I don't know.

I don't know.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

It's okay if you go abroad.

It's okay if we can't see each other.

As long as we still love each other,

we can wait for a few more years.

When you make a name for yourself

and when I become the champion,

you'll retire

and I'll marry you.

Dummy, stop crying.

Don't just frown in your room every day.

Come out for some fresh air.

When I was talking to your father that day,

I suddenly thought of

the first time I went to your house.

As soon as I opened the door,

I saw a lady singing two-people rotation, a local folk song.

I thought it was a song from my home town.

After that, I found out that you were actually singing the song, Yi Jian Mei.

What I mean is,

I think

you've always been a positive girl.

Don't be so stressed out because of a college entrance exam.

You can just retake it.

Besides, I think that

in this life...

I've decided to go abroad.

Wait for another two days.

The result is not out yet, right?

It has nothing to do with the result.

I think there are many things

in this world that I want to try out.

I don't want to be like others.

I don't want to be bounded by the exam.

Actually, it had been

quite hard on me recently.

You never took the college entrance exam.

You don't know how scary it is for me.

Actually, I'm quite envious of you.

You are walking on a path that you belong to.

So, I want to find a path

where I belong as well.

When did you decide on this?

Just now.

When are you leaving?

The day after tomorrow.

You are going to leave the day after tomorrow

and you are only telling me this now?

It's a tough decision to make.

Fine. I wish you

all the best then.

Bye.

Will you send me off?

Lei Lei.

There are things that

it's hard for me to tell you face-to-face.

But I really want to tell you about it.

Father.

The water card, electricity card and gas card

are all inside here.

I've already paid the fees for this month.

Don't forget to pay next month.

The box is right up here, okay?

Okay.

How much water do you need to cook rice?

Until the first segment of my finger.

If you didn't put enough water,

add some hot water to it.

But you can't always do that. It's bad for your stomach.

Besides, don't always eat

your soybean paste noodles.

It's too salty.

You have high blood pressure and you don't like to drink water.

I'll be leaving now.

I've already asked you not to send me off.

Leave without worries.

Come.

Give me a kiss.

Bye.

Lei Lei.

There are things that it's hard for me to tell you face-to-face.

But I really want to tell you about it.

I want to apologise to you

for how I reacted two days ago.

I reacted that way

because I can't bear to let you go.

Since young,

you've always been the one to encourage me.

But this time,

I hope that

you can chase after what you want.

Lastly, I want to tell you this.

I'll wait for you to come back.
